Plot twist: the trolls eventually rule the surface by virtue of surviving whatever apocalypse eventually wipes most of humanity out.
Alternatively, humans and trolls are equally devastated by the apocalypse and the survivors work together to build new societies in the ashes of the old.

I know it’s been a while but I think it’s high time I show off my take on the next gen. This was a lot more kids than I had originally planned but I love them all. I’m going to be doing some chapters with them all at some point. And I’m going to do a bit more with Antonia and the Morgangor baby later as well.
Tumblr media
First came Shauna Giladrigal, the daughter of Mary and Seamus. At 10-years-old, she’s a mermaid werewolf and was a preeme. I know you’re not supposed to have a favorite child but Shauna’s my favorite. She may appear more quiet and reserved but she’s actually the ring leader of the next gen. If these kids get into trouble, you can grantee that it was Shauna’s idea.
Tumblr media
Then, only a month later came Petunia Strickler, the daughter of Jim and Claire. She’s a wizards and a polymorph changeling. She’s the most high energy of all the kids and is my precious chaos gremlin. She loves all of her family, particularly her Tio Enrique, but she’s closest with her cousin Shauna since she and Jim lived with Mary and Seamus for a while after her Mami, Claire, died.
Tumblr media
Less than a month after Pet was born came Isaac Scaarbach. The son of Toby and Darcy, he’s an Akoridian like his father before him. However, he only has two arms in his Akoridan form. His family often travels between Earth and Akoridain V so he gets a good blend off both sides of the family. He, Petunia, and Shauna are kind of the new “Dream Team”. In their escapades, he’s the brains of the operation.
Tumblr media
Another favorite of mine is Fialkov “Flip” Terron-Pepperjack. At 10-years old, he’s a fairy-Akoridian hybrid. Headcannon time! Like the trolls, Akoridans have multiple ways of making biological children. One such way is with a sort of incubator. More information on that in the upcoming chapter. I love his design so much and I had a lot of fun working with him. He’s the only on of the next gen to not have a natural human form so he uses a disguise similar to Aja and Krel in the show sometimes but not often. He can retract his wings though, like Eli can.
Tumblr media
Not long after Flip, Lawrence “Larry” Terron was born, the nine-year-old (Nine and a half!) son of Aja and Steve. Steve never wanted to change his name but he also didn’t want to pass it down so he and Aja agreed that their son would only have her family’s name. He is a human and Akoridian but, much like Toby’s biological father, he can’t transform into an Akoridian. However, with access to Akoridian V that Ralf didn’t have, the family is able to see other Akoridian traits that he does have. He has Aja’s eyes, he can breath in atmospheres most humans can’t, and he will have the Akoridian lifespan.
Tumblr media
The oldest of the lot came a bit later in Eudora Scaarbach. The adopted daughter of Toby and Darcy, she’s a 15-year-old selkie. Other than Shauna, she’s probably my favorite and I have so many plans for her. Toby mentioned as far back as book 1 that he wanted to adopt when he grew up and he and Darcy adopted Eudora when she was six and Isaac was only a year. Her biological family may be gone but there are plenty of other selkies in Arcadia/Avalon by this time that she, Toby, and Darcy have plenty of resources if they ever have any questions or need any help. However, being a lot older than the rest of the kids, she actually spends more time with Douxie’s apprentice, Enrique Nunes. (Also, I got to experiment with more pens again when working on her pelt!)
Tumblr media
Not long after Eudora joined the family Otto “Ottie” Arthur Giladrigal came along. The adopted son off Seamus and Mary, he’s a werewolf-vampire hybrid and yes, that is the name his birth parents gave him. They found him while doing work abroad with a werewolf pack. He was among the pups but they struggled to feed him after his parents died and his father’s vampire clan refused to take him. Now, he has free reign of Heartstone Trollmarket and has regular contact with the Avalon Vampire clan. He runs with Seamus, Shauna, and the rest of the Avalon Werewolf pack on the full moon. Vampires age more slowly, like the trolls. So, though he only looks about six, he’s actually closer to 18. Which is fine since Mary doesn’t really age anymore as The Lady of the Lake.
Tumblr media
Then, as seen in my Ajim week story “Heirs”, came Karl Strickler, the son of Jim and Aja. He really is five. Claire died when Petunia was just a baby and Aja and Steve split amicably when Lary was just over a year old. Aja and Jim started dating when the kids were three and they got married a year later. A year after that saw the birth of Karl. A polymorph changeling, his troll form actually resembles a stone Akoridian. He’s a bit more shy then most of the other kids, and prefers to spend time with his parents and his troll family in Heartsone or wandering the halls of the Avalon Castle.
Tumblr media
Finally, the baby of the family, Lenora “Lenny” Giladrigal. The two-year-old daughter of Mary and Seamus, she’s a werewolf and mermaid like her sister and was also a preeme. It was then determined that a non-werewolf likely could not carry a pup to term. Mary and Seamus had decided to wait a long time before trying again to have another baby so Lenny’s a lot younger than the rest of the next gen.

Our Time || One shot
Summary: Douxie’s remembering the good old times.
Warnings: angst, mention of character death, that's it I think?
Word count: 1,735
Tumblr media
Everything was set. The lanterns were hung up on the trees nearby, providing light to Douxie for the night. The campfire was crackling just a couple of feet away from the round dining table and chairs that Douxie had set up not too long ago. The plates were also ready on the table, waiting to be filled with food.
Douxie magicked up a bouquet of roses, and placed them in the vase that was in the middle of the table.
Suddenly, he heard a twig snap behind him. He quickly spun around, staff and bracelet ready, only to see Archie looking up at him in his cat form.
"You seriously thought that I was danger?" Archie questioned with an eyebrow raised.
Douxie magicked his staff away and deactivated his bracelet, "Hehe… yes."
Archie rolled his eyes at his familiar's response, "Do you not remember that you put a ward around this whole area?"
Douxie just shrugged and went back to doing last minute preparations.
After a few minutes of silence, Archie cleared his throat to gain Douxie's attention.
"Yes, Arch?" Douxie asked, turning his gaze to the cat.
Archie pointed to the two figures in the distance heading towards them.
Douxie's eyes widened at how time flew by quickly. He didn't even have time to get changed!
He quickly got behind a tree and used a spell he had recently learned, and changed into a black dress shirt (sleeves rolled up of course), black pants and shoes, keeping his signature skull necklace.
He stepped out from the tree to see Archie fly away. His eyes wandered around until they landed on both you and Jim getting closer. You were wearing a stunning black A-line lace dress that went down to your knees with half laced sleeves and beige heels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were blindfolded as Douxie had requested Jim to do to you so you had a surprise.
Douxie could hear you complain to Jim how you didn't like being blindfolded. Jim just rolled his eyes at your antics and told you that all would be revealed in a matter of moments.
Douxie walked up to you two siblings and took you from Jim.
"Thank you, Jim. I'll take her from here," Douxie smiled and took your shoulders.
"No problem, Doux! Tell me the end result!" Jim waved and walked off.
"Douxie, where in the world am I?" you asked.
"Shhh. Be patient, love. All will be revealed," Douxie reassured.
After a few moments, the blindfold on your eyes was taken off.
You took in your surroundings. The trees were decorated with lanterns, a dining table was set and a campfire was already lit. Everything was beautiful.
You spun around to see Douxie holding out a rose for you to take, which you, without a doubt, accepted.
"Shall we, m'lady?" Douxie inquired, holding his arm out.
You nodded and you let him take you to the table.
~~~~~
Douxie had prepared f/f for dinner, and for dessert, an apple pie.
Now, the two of you were quietly sitting on a blanket at the campfire, leaning on each other.
"Love?" Douxie asked.
You hummed in response, letting him know he had your attention.
"Remember the first time we met? I had spilled a drink on the ground in the cafe and you rushed to help," Douxie remembered.
"Yeah," you nodded, memories flooding back.
~~~~~
You anxiously tapped your feet on the ground, waiting for your order to arrive.
You were in a big rush.
Mom had called to tell you that Jim was in the hospital. You knew that he was the Trollhunter, so he had gotten a lot of injuries, though, he didn't need to go to the hospital to get them treated, so you knew that this was serious.
Abruptly, you heard a crash from behind you. You turned around to see a drink had spilled all over the floor. The waiter was already on his knees, trying to clean it up.
You got up from your seat and ran over to help him. You kneeled in front of the guy to hear him faintly say, "Fuzzbuckets". You saw a faint sky blue spark come from his hand.
A wizard.
You placed a hand on his arm, making him look up into your e/c eyes. You mouthed ‘no’ and shook your head, telling him not to perform the spell. He stopped and sighed before cleaning up the mess the old fashioned way with your help.
After helping him, you returned to your seat.
Just when you were about to leave, getting fed up of the wait, the same waiter you had helped rushed up to you, order in hand.
"Hey! You were the one who helped me with the spill a couple of minutes ago, right?" he asked.
"Yeah," you nodded and then added quietly, "And the one who stopped you from using magic as a shortcut."
You smiled and took your order from him. You headed out but got stopped by the same guy.
"Hey, I never got your name. I'm Hisirdoux Casperan, but you can call me Douxie," Douxie winked and held out his hand for a handshake.
"Y/n, Y/n Lake," you replied, shaking his hand. "I'm really sorry, but I really need to go."
He nodded understandingly and waved goodbye.
As you walked to the hospital, you opened the bag that had your food in it, as well as a note. You took it out and read it:
Hey, stranger, who I probably got the name of!
I was wondering if you would grab a bite with me tomorrow at the cafe. 4 pm sharp.
Don't be late.
Yours truly,
Hisirdoux Casperan.
You smiled. You had finally found a fellow magic wielder.
~~~~~
"Then, the time when Jim got a bit overprotective of you when you were at the bookstore."
"A bit?"
"Okay, extremely overprotective of you."
~~~~~
The sun was shining high in the sky, your hair moving along with the gentle breeze, and a nice cup of coffee in your hands while you and Jim made your way to GDT Arcane Books.
Jim opened the door to reveal Archie, Douxie's familiar lying on the ground near the fireplace.
"Hey, Archie!" you greeted.
"Hello," Archie called.
You turned your attention away from the cat and to Jim, who was looking around in suspicion.
"Jim, what is it now?" you asked, placing your hand on your brother's shoulder.
"It's just… why does this store seem so… magical?" Jim inquired.
"Because a magical being owns the bookstore," you replied.
Jim nodded in response.
"Hello!" a new voice spoke.
You turned around to see Douxie coming out of the back. From the corner of your eye, you saw Jim's gaze harden at the sight of the wizard. He pulled you a bit closer to him.
Overprotective brother mode switched on.
"Hey, Doux. Did you call us in for some help?" you inquired.
"Yep! There's only so much a 900 year old wizard can do by himself," Douxie nodded.
Douxie told you and Jim what he needed help with.
Jim was sent off to get some supplies from around town, to his dismay. He wanted to keep an eye on you and Douxie, but alas, he had to go shopping.
Before Jim had left, you heard him send a death threat to Douxie.
"Don't do anything funny with my sister, Casperan. I won't hesitate to slice your head off with Daylight."
Your eyes widened. You knew Jim didn't like Douxie, but you didn't know that he hated him so much to actually threatened him.
Geez. He's way too overprotective.
You made your way over to Douxie as soon as Jim left the store.
"Don't mind him. He's just overprotective," you told Douxie.
"Uh-huh," Douxie nodded slowly.
~~~~~
"We know each other so well, made so many wonderful memories, we've spent so much time together," Douxie sighed. "And I want to spend more time with you."
You turned your head towards him, silently asking him to elaborate.
Douxie moved away and got up. He lent you his hand, which you accepted and followed suit. He took a deep breath and got down on one knee.
"Y/n, love, we've been through so much together. Good and bad. Sad and happy. And I'll continue to. You made me the most happiest man when you became my girlfriend and I thought I couldn't be any happier. But today may prove me wrong," Douxie expressed.
You gasped and clasped your hand over your mouth as Douxie took out a golden ring with embroidery and held it out.
"Y/n Lake… make me the happiest man in the world. Will you marry me?"
You had tears in your eyes at this point. Douxie looked at you with hope, love, admiration, and so much more as he waited for your answer.
"Yes."
Douxie's eyes lit up like a child on Christmas morning, and quickly got up. He grabbed your waist and brought you close. He leaned down and softly kissed you as he slipped the ring onto your finger.
~~~~~
Douxie stared at the photo of you two on your wedding day. You were wearing a short lace white dress and beige ankle strap heels and Douxie was wearing a white dress shirt, black tuxedo, black tie, black pants and a rose attached on the left as you two stood in front of each other, hand in hand while Douxie was kissing your forehead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Douxie placed the photo back and glanced down at his wedding ring. It was simple, a silver band with swirl embroidery as you had the same, but gold. He remembered the feeling of your hand in his. Your giggling. Everything. But alas, ever since you had passed in battle, he couldn't seem to bring any of those memories back.
Tears formed in Douxie's eyes as he remembered the good times.
Suddenly, the door opened to reveal Jim and Claire.
"Hey, Teach. What were you--" Claire started before she noticed the tears streaming down his face.
Douxie wasn't going to cry but as soon as he saw the wedded couple, he couldn't help himself.
Jim and Claire rushed over to Douxie and enveloped the wizard in a hug, attempting to comfort him. He sobbed into Jim's chest as Jim ran his hand through his hair and Claire rubbing Douxie's back.
Nothing was going to be the same without you.

Reunions and Revelations
On their third day at Arcadia Oaks High, Aja and Krel have their memories of the previous timeline restored. Krel is insistent upon seeing Douxie again, and Aja is a little confused. After all, even though they were friends she didn’t think they were that close.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Tales of Arcadia franchise. If I did, Rise of the Titans would be extremely different.
Have I seen the movie? No, but I’ve seen spoilers, which lead to me coming up with an idea that I shared with the Klebuckets server, and @gayspiderman convinced me to write said idea.
This fic is not canon compliant in that Akiridion kissing does not lead to pregnancy any more than kissing between two humans leads to pregnancy. (And also not canon compliant in that again, I did not actually watch the movie and do not want to.) That being said, this is probably the most RotT-compliant fic I will ever write.
AO3
FFN
Mother’s three rules did not help. Being prepared for change and embracing their mistakes had only led to them being sent to Principal Levit’s office, and playing with their phones had resulted in detention. All Aja wanted to do was go home, even though she knew when she got there she’d have to deal with another lecture from Varvatos and Mother about staying inconspicuous.
Aja found her and Krel’s path blocked by three humans.
“Aja and Krel, right?” the tallest of them said. “I’m Jim, and these are Toby and Claire.” He gestured with his head to the boy and girl standing beside him as he said their names. Mother had definitely been wrong when she’d claimed that girls on this planet were invisible. “I’ve been trying to do this for a couple days.”
“And what is ‘this?’” Aja asked.
Jim pulled a small disk out of his pocket. Along the top half of the disk were the words “for the good of all”. Along the bottom half were a series of scuff marks, like words had been marred out to no longer be legible. Some parts of it looked eerily similar to Akiridion technology, and yet other parts were far too different.
“It’s a school tradition. Touch the disk, and you’ll do well on your finals and everything because you’ll have the entire school backing you up.”
Aja didn’t believe that was real, and she didn’t care about finals. But, if she complied, then Jim, Toby, and Claire would hopefully get out of her way. And so Aja looked closer.
Oh.
Oh.
Of course that was why the amulet looked almost like Akiridion technolgy, because Krel had been involved in building it. These weren’t three random humans who were taking up Aja’s time, they were her friends from the future. A future that, hopefully, wouldn’t fully come true. Hopefully she’d be able to save her Mama and Papa, and Tronos, and Buster, and Toby, who was once more alive in front of her.
“What did you do to my sister?” Krel demanded.
“Krel, just touch it,” Aja said.
“No, I don’t want to.” He lowered his voice to a hiss. “That looks like an inferior form of Akiridion technology! I think they’re disguised bounty hunters!”
Ah, so he had recognized his work on the amulet, but not that he had been the one who worked on it, and definitely not that Douxie had been helping him. Of course not. He didn’t remember. Well, that was easy enough to fix.
Aja grabbed her brother’s wrist. He fought back as she forced him to touch the amulet. For a brief moment, his eyes flashed with blue-green light.
So that was why he had been so concerned.
Krel smacked his forehead before dragging his hand down his face. The gesture looked familiar, but also like it belonged on someone else. “I was clearly wrong when I said it was inferior. But, seriously? School tradition? That was the best you could come up with?”
“Just in case it didn’t work,” Toby said.
“Why wouldn’t it work?” Aja asked. “Wait, did it not work on the trolls?”
“No, it worked on them,” Claire said. “I have no idea why Douxie’s been so worried about it not working on the two of you and Varvatos.”
“Douxie’s been worried about me?” Krel smiled and looked away as he tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. That was... odd.
“Yeah, he even stuck around extra long passing out flyers for the Battle of the Bands on the day you guys arrived, since he knew you two’d be showing up,” Jim said. Krel smiled a little wider. “Everyone’s been trying to herd you two towards me so I could unlock your memories. If we hurry, we could go meet up with Douxie before he has to switch shifts from the bookstore to the bistro.”
“I mean, we should probably go make Varvatos remember, maybe then he won’t try and demand Eli’s thumbs anymore,” Aja said. “Plus, we might be able to fight off bounty hunters better!”
“Or,” Krel said, already walking ahead of the rest of them. “We could go find Douxie so he stops worrying. I mean, Varvatos is just waiting around the Mothership so it’s not like we’d have to worry too much about him getting into trouble. It’s not like the bounty hunters will actually show up for another week, anyways.” He stopped walking, wrapped his arms around himself, and frowned. “Um, where is it? I didn’t ever actually go there, since Bellroc burned it.”
“Come on, it’s this way,” Toby said, beginning to walk in the opposite direction that Krel had been walking in. Krel sighed, probably in relief, but why? Why was he so concerned?
They exited the school and made their way down the street.
“So, when you said everyone’s been trying to herd Krel and I towards you, does that mean the entire town remembers?” Aja asked.
“No. I can only unlock the memories of people I had a strong enough positive emotional bond with in the first timeline, and I have to be holding onto the amulet for it to work,” Jim said. “I tried unlocking Señor Uhl’s memories so he wouldn’t give Toby and I detention for skipping class for trollhunting duties, and it backfired.”
“Why isn’t he principal? Who even is Levit?” Aja stole a glance at her brother as he walked silently beside her. He looked nervous, and she wasn’t sure why.
“Well, since Strickler went to our side early in the timeline,” Toby said, “he decided not to kill the guy who was our principal at the beginning of the year. Which also means I didn’t have to worry about him flirting with my Nana.”
“Why would he flirt with your Nana?”
“Well, the only reason why Strickler flirted with Jim’s mom in the first place was because he was the trollhunter,” Toby said.
Aja’s jaw dropped. “You’re not the trollhunter anymore?”
“Of course he is,” Claire said. “It’s hunters, not hunter. But, Toby’s got the Daylight sword. Eclipse, too.”
“I guess it makes sense why you can’t command daylight anymore with the amulet Douxie and I made, since daylight would be Toby’s to command.” Krel tucked his hair behind his ear again when he said Douxie’s name. Why was he doing that? “But does it still have any other powers or is it just for unlocking memories?”
“Oh, yeah. I can still summon armor, and I’m using it to store my daggers. Though, I think the issue with daylight summoning is more the fact that the Green Knight still has Excalibur.” Jim frowned, and Claire put a hand on his shoulder.
“And none of us are going to get controlled by him. Him or his sister,” she said. Come to think of it, Claire didn’t look as sick as she had when Aja first met her during the...
“Hey, did we go through a bunch of time loops at the science fair?”
“Yep!” Toby said. “Though, like, Steve and Shannon and everyone doesn’t remember them since they didn’t have their memories protected. Just us, Blink, and my Wingman. And Vex wil, too, when he remembers.”
“Thank Deya we got Saturday detention with Shannon the first time around,” Claire said. “She’s been a major help, but I’m not sure if we ever would’ve bonded enough if not for that.”
“And we’re here,” Jim said, holding open the door to GDT Arcane Books. Aja glanced at her brother. There were tears in his eyes. But why? He hadn’t even been this emotional when he had reunited with Eli in their first timeline.
“Douxie?” Krel called out in an incredibly soft voice.
A broom clattered to the wooden ground.
Aja looked up in time to see Douxie standing on the top floor of the bookstore next to the fallen broom. He spun around and brought a hand to his mouth. He then ran and vaulted over the railing, using magic to slow his descent. At the same time, Krel ran to Douxie. They hugged tightly. Upon closer look, Douxie was crying just as much as Krel was. Aja could hear the two of them whispering to each other, but she couldn’t make out the words.
Aja knew they were friends, just like she was friends with all of the other Guardians, but she hadn’t realized they were so close. Then again, she knew that Douxie was skilled in music and wizard technology. Perhaps Krel had finally found someone who truly understood him while Aja had been ruling as queen. It was good for him to have a close friend.
Right as their hug began to grow a little long, Krel took half a step back and placed his hands on Douxie’s shoulders. Krel then used them as leverage as he pressed himself onto his toes to kiss Douxie.
What.
What?
“Uh, did they get together after I died or something?” Toby asked. Aja looked away from the kissing couple to Toby and the others. They looked just as perplexed by the situation in front of them as Aja felt.
“No, there was no time,” Jim said.
“Then,” Aja sputtered. “Then when did that happen?”
A/N: To answer Aja’s question, Douxie and Krel finally confessed their feelings to each other either shortly before or during the events of RotT. However, because everything was so tense and chaotic, they chose not to reveal the change in their relationship to any of their friends until after the titans were defeated. Instead, of course, Jim reset the timeline, so they didn’t get the chance before their dramatic romantic reunion. If the kiss described above isn’t their first kiss, then it’s probably their third kiss at most - though it’s not like they need to actually count them.

Welcome to Live Commentary
I had no one to talk to while watching the movie and I hate being alone with my thoughts so I wrote everything down in my notes app. It's not coherent! Enjoy!
Aw yeah 1.5 seconds of Bular that is all I needed! Might as well stop now I've seen my boy I'm satisfied.
Why is there a nearly 4 minute recap as if I haven't watched the show at least 50 times. I should be the one giving the recap.
The beginning felt a bit forced to me but maybe that's just me? Like they just tried to squeeze too many things into a small timeframe without any buildup, it just didn't really work. Congrats on the engagement! This is my OTP so I'm very happy! But it came out of nowhere.
Nari in Douxies body is so wrong and I love it and hate it at the same time (positive)
Eli is BIG. I knew he was gonna be tall but I was not prepared for that chiseled face. Or the fact that he stepped off the ship without glasses? I wear glasses and I would not choose to step off a spaceship blind.
OkAY who had mpreg on their bingo card?
AAARRRGGHH actually said a full sentence 🥺 there is no heterosexual explanation for this scene and I'm here for it
Arcadia being the center of the universe really does make a lot of sense. I hate how much sense it makes. Despise it.
Strickler in a Christmas sweater is something i didn't know I needed. Jim's jacket too but that's just adorable, Jim's adorable. Oh sweet baby you're about to get fucked over so bad.
Love seeing Barbara actively participating in battle too. Good for her! Power family!!
Where are the kids tho? Is NotEnrique babysitting? Either that or they hired the girl from the Incredibles movie.
Nomura is so talented I love seeing her fighting on the good side. I can't explain it but I love digitigrade legs they're just so pretty?? Aesthetically pleasing??? Fuck yeah, legg! I could watch Nomura run around and be badass all day.
WAIT NO OH SHIT HOW DARE YOU FUCK
STRICKLER DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE NOT YOU TOO THAT'S TOO FUCKING RUDE DON'T DO THIS TO ME
THERE'S NO WAY HE'S DEAD RIGHT WE SAW NO BODY
Barbara does not deserve this I refuse to accept it. He's fine he'll be back they wouldn't kill two Changelings at once. Also Nomura is with Draal now I take no criticism.
So my favorite characters were Bular, Draal, Gunmar and Angor. And before this movie I always half-joked that everyone I love dies, how I still like Strickler and Nomura but apart from them all of my faves were killed in the very order of favoritism. AND NOW LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I LOVE A CHARACTER. MY LOVE IS TOXIC.
OKAY I LOVE GUN RO- WAIT NO I DON'T LOVE HIM FUCK ABORT ABORT
It's great tho omg
I didn't realize it was Gun Robot when I saw it in the trailer this is amazing
Okay but imagine you're chilling in your trollmarket minding your own business when some misfit group of strangers waltzes in, steals your favorite shiny and celebrates your death before running off
"I AM GUN ROBOT" IS THE HORN LMAOOO
Nana better show up at some point to reunite with her boytoy, I'll cancel this entire franchise otherwise
Something bad is going to happen to Toby isn't it. He's getting too much screentime
Jim's hand got DEEP FRIED
ARCHIE NO
We can play Scrabble okay if they don't free them (which they must) I want an after credits scene of them playing scrabble
Douxie and Nari's bond 🥺🥺🥺
Nari pls just say what you fuckin mean the world is ending
Oh god is she going to remember killing Nomura oh nooo
Claire don't make the portal you will die again. Your hair gon be white all over
EVERYONE AVOIDING THE SCHOOL JUST RIGHT THERE LMAO RIP
I love how Darci is just with the school bus. Civilian girlfriend. But also love how the world is ending and Coach is like "fuck that I'm gonna teach these kids"
Does he know his son is pregnant
"Going back to the city where it's safe" buddy have you been to that city
Whatever happens, Nari has the coolest looking titan. Giant four legged gremlin. I'd adopt him.
WAIT SHE CAN FEEL THE PAIN?
Me: oh i love that titan
The titan 5 seconds later:
Did Nari just fucking die what the FUCK
Oh of COURSE the pages are stuck together RIGHT THERE
Seriously tho how do you not notice an entire nougat nummy in a book
Wait so Arcadia has another heartstone? Or OH SO IT'S ALIVE. OKAY GREAT. GUNMAR COULDN'T EVEN DO THAT RIGHT HUH
Love how the Heartstone has been dormant/dead for months and apparently heard Blinky say it's alive and decided to wake up RIGHT THEN
Finally they're evacuating the city. This is like, the third apocalypse there. About time.
Okay so you can't pull Excalibur from the rock, but you CAN carve out the stone. Couldn't you just carve it off the sword as close as possible and like. Use that? Just swing the whole damn rock around?
God i can NOT get over Steve's pants. I mean I read a spoiler he was gonna be pregnant but I thought it was a prank or shitpost. I did not see this coming and I am never going to be over it. I love how he and Aja just roll with it and nobody else even cares. They've seen weirder stuff. So he's pregnant now. Whatever.
Jim's hand is bandaged and his ribs still hurt. I love that they're actually consistent with his injuries. I mean sucks for him but hell yeah for hero that doesn't always win!
Okayyy here comes the heartstone. Why not!
IS HE IN LABOR
So if you kiss an Akiridion 7 times you will have 3-5 babies in a few hours. How are they not overpopulated?? Also Aja couldn't have WARNED STEVE BEFOREHAND?
Eli is so supportive omfg
So uh where are the babies gonna come out of? I'm not into mpreg how does this usually work
OH STEVE THANKS FOR ASKING MY QUESTION
Oh good thing he happens to have 8 friends still alive. Otherwise this would've never worked. Nomura had to die otherwise there would've been 10 of them.
Why is everyone bowing to Jim? Did they rehearse this?
Stuart if you hadn't taken a bathroom break you would've thrown off the math and doomed the world. That was a poop of fate my man
Ahhh the signature quote. Where did Douxie and the Akiridions learn it? Did they rehearse this too? It's really cliché but I do like it tbh
If Strickler were dead we'd see more Barbara right?
WOOO BLINKY DRIVING
Ah Jim just used she/her for Bellroc! Finally we're learning some pronouns. I've been wondering this whole time.
MY VIRGIN EYES. WHAT IS GOING O N
How are they not dying with all this lava?
She really just yeeted Varvatos
Did Claire just tell AAARRRGGHH to jump off the titan and he did it without question
I want to say I like Stuart and want him to have more screentime, but I won't say it because I don't want him to die
Jim's poor ribs
Toby can drive yoooo
Tobyyy you're scaring meeeee
So did they really need the different stone or was the amulet just waiting for Jim to choose death over giving up
I saw the armor before but it looks VERY COOL
Also I didn't mention this before but I love that they cut Merlin's name from the incantation. Good for them.
Toby you lost your helmet noooo
For real tho I'm terrified for Toby rn. I saw a comment somewhere earlier that just said "Toby no" with no context and I am AFRAID
So do Bellroc's eyes work after all? I thought she was blinded back in Wizards in the past.
DID SHE JUST FUCKING STAB MY BOY
TOBY YOU SHOULD NOT BE THERE GET OUT THE TRUCK
Bellroc maybe screaming "i'm powerless" in front of your enemy isn't the best idea
She sploosh
DID JIM SURVIVE THAT FALL AND ALSO IS THE TACO TRUCK OKAY
How is he lifting Claire like that buddy you have bruised ribs and just got stabbed
ELI HI CAN WE SEE THE KIDS
SEVEN KIDS! AND ELI JR I LOVE IT
This show really loves to give people more than the recommended amount of babies with no warning huh
She immediately knows which one is Eli Jr 🥺 okay listen I'm not the biggest fan of comic relief sideplot surprise babies, but I have to admit they're cute. Cute couple. Throuple. Eli is in on this. He even has a Junior.
I TOLD YOU WHERE'S THE DAMN TACO TRUCK NANA WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU AND NEITHER WILL I
Oh yea he better fuckin be alive I will commit murder
HE BETTER FUCKIN BE ALIVE BITCH
FUCK YOU
THAT'S A WHOLE ASS CHILD HE ISN'T ALLOWED TO DIE IT'S ILLEGAL
JIM IS GONNA LOOK DOWN AT THE GREEN GLOWING BITCH AAARRRGGHH CONVENIENTLY THREW THERE AND SEE HIM ALIVE OR SOMETHING
YEAH USE THE SWORD TO UNDEAD HIM! THAT'S HOW YOU USE SWORDS!
Unbecoming Part 2
So is Jim just gonna Groundhog Day it until everyone is fine? There's only 13 minutes left we're gonna need a bigger movie
Also I screamed so much about everyone's death and now everyone reading this after they already saw the whole thing is gonna shame me for clowning huh
The scene where Blinky is giving his goodbye speech, there are no babies and Steve has a round belly? Did he reabsorb them?? I mean I know Jim is about to un-birth them but he hasn't started yet
JUST HOW FAR BACK IS HE PLANNING TO GO
WAIT HOLD UP EXCUSE ME WHAT
Oh they did NOT just do that. I though he was just gonna go back to like, the start of the movie maybe. Not all the way
Imagine being in your early twenties with as much trauma as this kid has and having to pretend you're 16 again
Somewhere Unkar is complaining because "oh sure NOW it's a good idea"
I know Jim is wondering where Toby is because he was there before. But before, he made an entire meatloaf AND did his homework before leaving the house, so honey maybe wait a minute
For a second I thought Toby wasn't gonna be there and Jim would return to the right time. But there he is!
Alright so they're in school now, did they take the canal and just didn't mention the amulet on screen or did they pass it as if the Unbecoming episode hadn't been that traumatizing? Jim you know what happens when you ignore it
Jim maybe you're being too obvious here lmao
Soooo. Anyway. These whole past years I've rewatched this show over and over and over again are cancelled now?
OKAY AT LEAST WE SAW NANA FOR A SPLIT SECOND THAT'S IRONIC TIMING
So we get the quote again. And Trollhunter Tobias is nice. Cool. Cool AU I mean, but I don't know. I don't knowwww. I've been way too invested in everything to just accept that it never happened?? So uh. Hm. How about this.
Strickler survived because fuck you, and Toby also survived and just has scars now. Maybe a wheelchair but he's fine, also he can use the Warhammer for super speed and make it awesome once he's used to it. Archie and Charlie get freed once they rebuild the bridge (and they were playing scrabble to pass the time). Nomura is still dead because she died on screen and I can't really deny that but she's with Draal so it's okay. Everyone is traumatized but they'll be fine. NotEnrique is still babysitting 500 babies and Steve is about to bring 7 more.
In summary, I reject Groundhog Day ending but everything else was great, as long as it actually happened. It was a good movie. But you can't just cancel years of passion. Having the prospect of a million "canon AUs" sounds great for writing but at the same time nooo you can't do that he didn't have to go back THAT far HHHHH
I liked the movie. It was a great watch and a satisfying end to a franchise, but I gotta say I do not fancy the ending of it so I will from now on be in denial. I honestly feel kind of betrayed that this show was my whole life for so long, I learned every smallest fact, and they basically deleted it from existence. I know what they were going for, I think, but no thank you I will be going with my own opinion. Still gonna rewatch it a few dozen times though ✌🏻
And that concludes my live commentary that was supposed to be a small handful of notes. Feel free to shame me for my opinions. See ya!

"Nothing interesting ever happens in Arcadia" VERY FUCKING FUNNY
Destiny is a gift. Some go their entire lives living in an existence of quiet desperation, never learning the truth- that what feels as though a burden pushing down upon our shoulders is actually the sense of purpose that lifts us to greater heights. Never forget that fear is but the precursor to valor. That to strive and triumph in the face of fear is what it means to be a hero. Don't think. Become.
.......it actually called his name. I can't believe it actually called his name.
The fuck is that ending??? Let Jim REST

Arcadia or Bust (16) Corner of Main and State
"Yeah, so mom…we made it to New Jersey, and we're all safe...but the Heartstone isn't really...impressive. So, we're bringing what we found home. See you soon!" In Which Arcadia welcomes back it's underground citizens, Jim gets used to mundane life as a Troll, and drama seeks them all out like a magnet.
Ao3 | FF.net
I’m rewatching Trollhunters, because it’s been like a year since I watched it, and the more I listen, the less the plot of Wizards makes sense to me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but there’s some lore and continuity issues. That being said, I’ll continue to write this story using Trollhunter’s lore primarily, with a sprinkle of Wizards and 3Below lore as I see fit. :)
Jim had been through a lot of trauma in his life. At least since becoming the Trollhunter. But nothing was as jarring as looking down to his chest and seeing his ribcage, muscles, and heart beating.
They had taken the amulet from where it was nestled, and in return, left the gaping hole wide open, oozing with blood, and exposed. Could trolls get infections? Because humans certainly could, and this was just asking for infection.
He had been lying here alone for a few hours now. It was hard to tell exactly how long in the vast passage of time while drenched in pain.
When Colonel Kubritz appeared at his side, he wasn’t even surprised. Had he fallen asleep?
“How do you get this to work?” She bit. In her hand, she held the cleaned amulet, and it glowed, aching to be back with him.
“You can’t. You have to be chosen by it. Even if I die, it will pick someone else. And it might not be you.”
She slapped him for that, but it looked like it hurt her more than him, by the wince on her face. “Don’t give me that crap. Tell me how to work it!”
“Just speak the incantation inscribed.”
“We already tried that.”
He shrugged. “That’s all it is.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Teach me to use it, and I’ll let you go home.”
Jim sighed. It was pointless, but he may as well try.
Claire rang the doorbell at the designated house.
A surly man opened the door. “Yeah? What do you want? No solicitors! Unless you’re a girl scout…no, you’re too old. Are you with the tamale lady?”
“Hello sir, I’m not here to sell anything, I actually came to ask about the car you had totaled a few days ago.”
“Are you here to hunt down that devil that flipped my baby?!” He gestured to the smashed in car in the driveway. It looked drivable, but one bump away from death.
“Not quite...I’m actually here to fix it.”
“Fix it? You want to fix that? My mechanic couldn’t even fix it! And you want to! What are you, 15?”
“17, actually.”
“I doubt you have the experience for this, little lady.”
“Oh, I’m not a mechanic, I’m a sorceress.”
“A what now?”
“Sorceress, a witch! Do I have permission to fix your truck?”
“Girlie, if you can fix my truck, I’ll owe you a huge favor.”
“I was hoping you’d say that!” With a little skip, Claire went over to the truck and rested her hands on the hood. “Ad initium redire...” Her hands glowed purple, and pulsed against the metal, making it groan. Then it began to twist and crunch, popping out dents and welding pieces back together.
The old man stood in shock as his beloved truck knit back together, and when she was done, it was in perfect condition.
“How did—where did you—?!” He rounded the car, circling it like a vulture. “It’s perfect! You even took out that bump from years ago! You’re a miracle worker, girlie!”
Claire fell on her butt on the driveway, dizzy and winded. “Glad to help.”
“You alright?”
“Just a little winded. I’m still getting used to using magic, especially without a staff. It’s exhausting.”
“Well why don’t you take a seat up on the porch instead of the road? I’ll get you a beer.”
“I’m seventeen.”
“You’ve earned it!”
Claire chuckled to herself and climbed to her feet. She followed the man up his steps and took a seat on the porch swing while he went inside.
Only a minute later, he returned with beers in hand. “Here you are darlin’. Summertime ale. I’m partial to dark ale myself, but my neighbor got me this pale ale. It’s pretty good! You have a favorite?”
Claire took a sip and tried to hide the grimace. “I don’t really get to drink very often, unless it’s a special occasion.”
“Right right, we’ll keep it our little secret. Now then, I owe you a favor. You just saved me a whole chunk of change and a basket of anxiety. You must have something in mind since you offered?” He suddenly sat up straight. “Oh god, you don’t want my soul do you?”
Claire snorted. “No no, you can keep your soul! Don’t know what I would do with it anyways...You know the boy that damaged your truck in the first place?”
“I only saw a glimpse of him, that blue devil? What about him?”
“He’s actually my boyfriend, and he’s really very sweet and usually not like this. But he was...fed something he shouldn’t have had and it made him go berserk.”
“Crying shame.”
“I’ll say! So the army came in and took him away! They wouldn’t listen to us at all!”
“So what do you want me to do about it?”
“We are going to run a campaign to get him out. Hopefully, if we get enough attention on the issue, they’ll let him go.”
“Oh, I gotcha.”
“So if you could just...spread the truth around town? He’s actually the one that stopped that troll invasion back at the beginning of summer.”
The man looked surprised at that. “No kidding, that was him? Well, he’s a local hero! He’s been talked about a lot since then! Sure I’ll set the record straight! What’s this kid’s name?”
“Jim Lake Jr.”
“Got it! Don’t worry, I’ll bring it up at the lodge, and the rotary, and the chess club...”
The phone was ringing, he had been successfully patched through. Strickler sat in his office after hours, wanting to make the call as private as possible.
“Stricklander, I haven’t heard from you since the fall of the Janus order. What reason have you called on me?”
“Can’t I just call an old friend to catch up?”
“You? No.”
Walt cracked a smile. “Fine. I need a favor.”
“Changeling to changeling, or school principal to army general?”
“The latter, actually.”
The man on the other line laughed. “Color me intrigued.”
“You know of the human Trollhunter, correct?”
“Just what you wrote in your dossier, a human male, 16 years old, lives in Arcadia Oaks, California, turned half-troll by the wizard Merlin. Responsible for the death of Bular and Gunmar. Quite a remarkable young soul. Is there anything else to know?”
“He’s been captured by the United States Army.”
The man let out half a chuckle. “Captured? What dumb trouble did he get into?”
“His deadbeat father left out some cocaine for the boy to find, he thought it was trash, and ate it.”
Distantly on the other line, there was laughter, a strong bark of laughter that lasted far too long. When he came back, he was calm. “How unfortunate.”
“He’s a good kid. Why would there be a kilogram of cocaine in the trash anyways? I fail to see the humor in the situation.”
“Of course. So, I assume, he went on a rampage following his meal, and then attracted the attention of some of us?”
“So you haven’t heard about it?”
“Not where I’m stationed. But give me a moment.” The line went silent, only a very distant and quiet tapping of keys on a keyboard being tapped. Then the man returned. “I’m glad you told me about this. This incident hasn’t been reported to our database. That shows evidence of misconduct. Did you get the name of the commanding officer responsible, by chance?”
“Colonel Kubritz, I believe.”
More typing. “Area 49-B.”
“That name was also passed around.”
“Technically not my jurisdiction, and since she didn’t report it, I’m not supposed to know about it.”
“I’m afraid you will officially know about it soon.”
“Oh?”
“His friends and family, myself included, are going to put on a protest for his freedom. Drawing attention to the situation.”
That echoing laughter was back again.
“It wasn’t my idea, in case you were wondering.”
“I know, you wouldn’t come up with something so bold. Regardless, go ahead in through with it. I’ll make sure whatever protest happens gets brought to my superior’s attention, and then I will take it from there.”
“Thanks. I will owe you one.”
“Oh come now, Walter, we Changelings that survived the Fall of the Janus order have to stick together. Besides, I heard rumors that you’re caring for my familiar?”
“He’s still in the cradle stone, and the moment. One baby at a time, for now.”
“Then we’re even. Besides, this is the most interesting thing that’s happened in a while. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“Your kindness is refreshing. I’m glad Gunmar didn’t eat you.”
“Gee, thanks.”
“We’ll be in touch then, Samuel.”
“Of course, Walter.”
“How goes the car repair?” Asked Merlin, as he met up with Toby and Claire in the park.
“Ugh, exhausting. First I stopped at the mechanics, and they’re still backed up with fixing other cars. Apparently, Gunmar’s army did a number and backed them up for months. But they gave me the names of all the clients who got totaled from Jim. I had to hit the scrap yard for four of them, and I just finished another two in driveways.”
“How many does that leave you with?”
“Seven more,” she sighed. “How goes the road work?”
“It goes. Now come along, there’s someone I’d like you to meet.” He didn’t wait for them to follow as he turned and started walking away.
Sharing a dubious look, Toby and Claire quickly caught up with him. He led them to a bookstore, where a young man was sweeping outside.
“Hisirdoux, my faithful and loyal apprentice—“
“You're damn straight I’m loyal!” He shouted. “Where have you been? I’ve been cleaning tables for the last 900 years!”
“Calm yourself boy, I’m here now, aren’t I? And I need your help.”
“Finally! What is it? Just say the word!”
“I need you to go with Miss Claire Nuñez and help her restore recently smashed vehicles.”
“What?”
“Or, you can repair street damage.”
Douxie crossed his arms. “What is this? I saw what happened! There were trolls, and evidence of Morgana! And now you need my help? To clean up, several months later?”
“That is correct.”
“Why didn’t you call for me back then?!”
“I forgot.”
“You forgot? About me?”
“Oh come now, don’t take it personally. I was busy trying to prepare the Trollhunter to fight Gunmar. And get my magic back from Morgana.”
Douxie seemed to become more sympathetic at that. “Morgana stole your magic?”
“Yes, but it’s all in the past now. Everything is fine. Well, not really. Seems that the US Army has declared the Trollhunter as a menace to society. We must get the trust of the city on our side if we are to get them to trust us, and agree that his capture is unjust.”
“Please,” said Claire. “We need all the help we can get.”
Douxie sighed. “Alright. Afterwards, you’re training me again.” He gave Merlin a hard look. “And no amateur magic either. I’ve been doing the same drills for 900 years. I think I’m ready for more advanced work.”
“Oh, you will be. Starting with helping Miss Nuñez field her shadow magic.”
Douxie looked at her, in awe. “You’re practicing shadow magic? Truly?”
“It’s a recent development…”
“She took Morgana’s Skathe-Hrün, and wielded it without any training. Because of that she has a tether to Morgana in the Shadow realm, who has been teaching her ever so slightly. I’m not allowed to train her, but she could use the guidance of a Wizard in the physical realm. Do you understand Hisirdoux?”
“I do, and I’ll be happy to teach her…I’m just…I’ll need a moment or two to digest the sentence you just said.”
“Well, don’t take too long, we have a Trollhunter to rescue!”
There was a heavy knock on the door, which was never a good thing. Especially nowadays.
Still, Barbara went to the door.
Standing there was Detective Scott and James Lake Sr.
“Does this belong to you?” Asked the detective.
“I don’t claim him, no.”
Her almost ex-husband smiled at her, pleadingly, “Please Babs?”
“What is he even doing out? You arrested him!”
“About that…” Detective Scott winced. “We don’t have enough to keep him on.”
“What!” She shouted. “He confessed in front of a bunch of people!”
“Which would be helpful if we had a case for a trial. But as it stands, he doesn’t actually have any drugs on him. And we don’t have a confession on tape. So…we’re shit out of luck.”
“Oh come on Louis, you know the cocaine came from him! Where else would Jim have gotten it from?”
“Look, the chief’s not thrilled that we didn’t arrest the guy responsible for trashing the town, but we’re supposed to arrest someone else without evidence?”
Barbara threw her hands up in the air. “With probable cause!”
“That doesn’t work with drug dealers. He’s clean, Barbara. All the blood tests came back clean too.”
“Ugh.”
The house shook slightly, and Barbara felt the floor bow behind her. “Is there a problem, officer?” Asked Draal.
“Nothing you can help with, Draal. Thank you.” Barbara sighed. “James is not being charged.”
“But he is a criminal, this degenerate flesh bag poisoned the Trollhunter! He should face banishment for his crimes!”
James withered a little with the glare Draal gave him.
“Well,” said Officer Scott. “Maybe you can keep an eye on him from now on. If you have evidence that he is dealing, like physical traces of cocaine on the premises, call us. But for now, there’s not much else we can do.”
“This is ludicrous.”
“I know, I’m sorry Barbara. How is Jim?”
She frowned. “You haven’t heard? The army came and collected him from the hospital!”
Louis sputtered. “The army came?!”
“Yes!”
“Where were they when Gunmar was terrorizing us?” He scoffed. “Again, sorry Barbara, I can’t help you here.”
“It’s alright. We’ve got a plan.”
“Love to hear it, but I’ve got to get back to the office. I’m sure Toby will tell Darci, and she’ll tell me. Good luck!” And he left James on the porch.
“Babs, I’m sorry…”
“Save it.” Barbara scoffed, but allowed him in the house.
Draal never took his eyes off the man.
“Well, you’ll be happy to know I have no more supply. And after Rudy found out what happened to my last Kilo, she’s not getting anymore for me. So…”
“I’ll have to thank Jim for keeping a kilogram of Cocaine off the streets of Arcadia. We have a fairly low rate of drug use around here, and we don’t need you to ruin people’s lives.”
James sighed, knowing he had dodged a huge bullet by being let off the hook. He’d rather deal with his wife than with his ex-associates in jail any day. “I think I’ve still ruined people’s lives anyway.” He walked into the living room, only to halt at the signs on the table.
Release Jim Lake Jr.
Justice for Jim
Let Lake Go!
“Babs, what is all this?”
“That’s part of our plan to free Jim! I’m friends with the councilwoman, and she suggested that we campaign for his release. Bringing a lot of unwanted attention onto his capture will stir the government to let him go!”
James jutted out his jaw, a sign of barely concealed rage. An expression Barbara had grown very used to in the last few months. “So, you’re going to put his name—my name in the news? You’re going to broadcast what city we live in?”
“Yes.”
He whirled on her, grabbing her arm. “Babs, people are looking for me! Horrible, mean, and ruthless people! If you put his name out there, they’ll know where to look!”
“All the better! Then they can come take you off my hands!”
“You don’t understand! I owe them a lot of money, and they’ll take it anyway they can! That includes extorting you, Jim, and whoever else they connect with me!”
Draal stepped in, removing his hand from Barbara’s arm. “This house is under my protection. If anyone dare tries to enter, they will be dealt with swiftly.”
“You don’t know what these men are capable of.”
“I assure you, I’ve decimated armies of flesh bags in my day. These men are no different.”
Barbara smiled. “If you’re really that scared, I hear Vermont is lovely this time of year.”
James just narrowed his eyes, before storming out of the room.
The first rally took place from 3pm to dusk, starting from after school, and leading up to when Trolls would be able to participate. Granted, it was only a handful of people, but standing in the middle of downtown did garner a lot of attention. More than a dozen people walking past had stopped to ask about the cause. They were then given a short synopsis of the situation, as it pertained to them:
“Jim is a 16 year old student who was chosen by the trolls to be our protector. He willingly gave up his humanity to defeat Gunmar the Black, the monstrous troll that attacked the city at the beginning of the summer. Now, he looks like a troll, and was sabotaged to go into a rage and damage the city. The US army took him away without a trial! He’s a hero to the city, and deserves fair treatment!”
Reactions ranged from:
“Oh, he stopped that thing?”
To:
“Oh my god! He’s just a child!”
Overwhelmingly, there was no negative feedback, at least in person. But it was only day one.
“This daylight...is it significant?” The colonel asked, as she circled his table.
“It’s just a name.” Jim lied. “A sword with a name is stronger than one without.”
“Interesting. Interesting indeed. According to my notes, trolls turn to stone in daylight. Any correlation there?”
So she already knew? Then what was the point? Was she just playing with him?
“I’m the Trollhunter, and I fight bad trolls. It would make sense to name my sword after something they’re afraid of.”
She hummed. “And what about you?”
“What about me?”
“Are you afraid of daylight?”
“Why would I be?”
The colonel laughed. “Oh Jim Lake Jr. You’re the worst liar I’ve ever met. You are honest and forthcoming with truths that work in your favor. You freely told me of your transformation, and of your victory against a Troll tyrant. But now that I’m edging on the topic of your weakness, you clam up and give me vague answers. I can do this all day, beast. What does daylight do to you?”
“Nothing. It doesn’t do anything to me.”
“Really? Even as a troll? That’s interesting.”
“It’s fortunate.”
“I would say so. Though, now you’ve got me curious. These burns on your skin…where did they come from?” She dragged her fingernail over one of the dark marks.
Jim winced. “I don’t know. I wasn’t aware in my rage state.”
“Then you won’t mind if I find out for myself?” She crooked a finger towards the shadows. Jim could hear the creak of wheels before a lamp with several fixtures was wheeled forward.
“Oh no…”
“UV lights, all different wattages. Let’s see what works the best, hmm?”
ARCADIA TRIBUNE
Justice for Jim
By Nadja Chamack
Who is Jim Lake Jr. anyway? This is a question I asked myself as I drove downtown three days ago. No doubt, you’ve seen the crowd of students and teachers holding signs on the corner of Main and State Street. It’s pretty hard to miss, quite honestly. Among the students, there’s also Councilwoman Nuñez, and resident Troll Mascot, ARRRGH! Signs range from ‘Justice for Jim’ to ‘Free our Lake’.
But who is Jim Lake Jr.? And what happened? A precursory search on my end showed only a scant few facts. Jim is a student at Arcadia Highschool, in his Junior year. He was nominated as Spring Fling King last year, and played the part of Romeo in the school play. His criminal record seemed pretty clean too. A misdemeanor for scratching a rental scooter was all that showed up. But hey, who hasn’t done that?
So I went to the source, his family and friends campaigning for him. On Saturday, the group was downtown, campaigning all day long, so I had the chance to interview each and every person about why they were there.
Turns out, Jim Lake Jr. might be the most amazing person in Arcadia.
From his mother, Dr. Barbara Lake, I learned that Jim is an Arcadia native, born and raised here. He enjoys cooking gourmet food, working on his vespa, and acting.
Oh, and he’s the first human Trollhunter.
What? You’ve never heard of a Trollhunter? Me neither. But Barbara and Blinky, another resident Troll, gave me the scoop.
You all remember that night at the beginning of the summer that we all promised not to talk about? Well, I’m going to talk about it. In fact, I’m here to give you all the answers you’ve been craving.
Many months before that fateful night, a new Trollhunter was chosen, after the previous one had perished. “The Trollhunter is chosen according to his mettle, by the amulet of the Trollhunter, as created by Merlin, the wizard of Arthurian legend. Jim was chosen after the fall of Kanjigar, his predecessor. Jim is the first human to be chosen, also the smallest and weakest. But, he was the first to defeat Bular, son of Gunmar!” Said his mentor, Blinky. None of this made any sense to me at first, though it was said with great enthusiasm.
It turns out, the trolls that we’ve gotten used to seeing around town, mostly ARRRGH, are ‘good’ trolls. The bad trolls, ‘Gum-gums’ are what invaded our town and destroyed my car. The Trollhunter’s whole job is to fight off these bad trolls, and gnomes, and goblins, and everything else that goes bump in the night. And so he did. The Gum-Gums invaded from the ‘Darklands’, being led by a fearsome troll named Gunmar the Black, the Skullcrasher, the Dark Lord…he had a lot of names, and it was obviously a bad dude. Gunmar had plans to invade the whole world by blotting out the sun, a.k.a the eclipse we saw. And he would have gotten away for it too, if it weren’t for those meddling kids!
Mainly Jim Lake Jr. and his friends.
And how does a sixteen year old defeat a couple millennia old, bloodthirsty, all powerful tyrant? With a fancy sword? Close. With some magical armor? Closer. By giving up a part of his humanity and becoming a half-human, half-troll hybrid? Now you’re getting it! Yes, to protect Arcadia, to protect us, Jim Lake Jr. allowed himself to be changed. You may have seen him around town. Blue skin, big horns...okay, I just described most of the trolls that are around here.
“Jim works the night shift at my store,” said Stu Harding, owner of Thrifty Furnishings. “He’s a very hard worker, and always willing to do the heavy lifting that is hard for the other employees to do.”
“Despite his appearance, Jim ultimately decided to attend school,” said Principal Walter Strickler. “After the school found out about why he had missed so many days of school, they were willing to move him onto the next grade to be with his peers. He was a good student before all this, and he fought really hard to keep his grades up regardless. We felt he should still have the opportunity to graduate. We were looking forward to having him on our football team, and in our spring production of Beauty and the Beast.”
So what happened to Jim? And why is there such a big campaign for his freedom?
Well, the truth is that Jim is a victim of unfortunate circumstances. In more ways than one, obviously. Trolls eat our trash. That’s why Arcadia has such a small carbon footprint! (Be sure to thank ARRRGH next time you see him!) And this trait was adopted by Jim too, when he was transformed.
“He just picked a bunch of items out of the trash. Cans, an old sock, and what looked like a VHS wrapped in duct tape,” said Jim’s best friend, Toby Dolmzalski. “It was a normal lunch for him. But right in the middle of gym class, he turned crazy town banana pants and took off! I had never seen Jim act like that! Ever!”
After an 8 hour rage through town, Jim collapsed and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. It turns out what Jim had ingested turned out to be a kilogram of pure cocaine!
At this time, it is unknown where the cocaine came from, or if it was planted purposefully. (Seriously, who throws away a kilogram of cocaine?)
But the damage that Jim caused was extensive enough to catch the attention of the US army, who has taken Jim into captivity from the hospital. No trial, no rights, they even took him while he was unconscious. His friends and family have not heard from him since.
“I’m so worried,” said girlfriend, Claire Nuñez. “He was injured from the battle with Gunmar, and didn’t completely heal. In the hospital, he was covered in burns from the sun. I have no idea if they’re caring for him properly, or dissecting him like some creature. But he deserves so much better than this. He saved our town, he saved my life, and the life of my baby brother. That’s why we won’t rest until he’s home!”
“Not bad,” said ARRRGH, long time friend of Jim. “Good troll have bad days, best trolls have worse days. Jim need some good days.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself, ARRRGH.
Friends and family of Jim are asking everyone share #JusticeforJim on social media, hoping to get the attention of someone in charge. All the damage caused by Jim has been repaired, and there were no casualties from his attack.
Of course, the whole ‘troll’ aspect of this story has to be a local legend. So when sharing it to social media, kindly leave that part out.
“C-Bomb!” Mary shouted from the other end of the hall. She came running and almost crashed into Claire and Toby, holding her phone up in the air. “My twitter feed is blowing up, girl! Look at all of this!” She held the screen up so they could see.
“Citizen abducted by the government, is this China or North Korea? Neither! It’s the US! #JusticeforJim”
“Imagine if this was your son. So sad, and so scary! #JusticeforJim”
“This is real life, not science fiction #JusticeforJim”
“Whoa, where did these all come from?” Asked Claire. “What did you post?”
“Did you know Snapper Karr did a report on it!?”
“Snapper Karr? From KTTV in LA?”
“Yes! Thankfully, he left out the whole troll thing. I’ll send you a link. In his story, Jim is just a kid that has a rare genetic disorder that makes him look different, and so the government took him away!”
Claire winced. “This is…kind of spiraling out of control.”
“I don’t know why you’re worrying, Claire,” said Darci. “We want people talking about Jim getting abducted. It doesn’t matter if the world outside Arcadia doesn’t have all the facts. They still know he’s been taken away without a trial, and that’s all that’s important. Besides, Jim doesn’t want the whole world knowing about Trolls, right?”
She nodded. “As long as this works, I’ll be happy.”
“And sensationalist stories like this blow up for like a week, and then they die out and are forgotten. This won’t last.” Mary waved her hand. “It should work long enough to get Jimmy Jam out though.” Then she squealed. “OMG you know what we should do?! We should totally have a welcome home party! Or-or a parade! Like they have for veterans!”
“Mary, I don’t think—“
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it! You’re not the only one with ties to the city!” And she hurried off, texting frantically.
“What’s up Claire? I would have thought you’d be ecstatic the hashtag went viral.” Asked Toby.
“Don’t get me wrong, I am happy. And I’m happy that Snapper Karr chalked the troll thing up to local legend or superstition…but I can’t help but worry that something bad is going to come out of this.”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know. It’s just a gut feeling.” She scoffed and went to her locker. “It’s dumb, don’t worry about it.”
No sooner had she said that, did Strickler appear. “Claire, Toby, come with me.”
“What?”
“I’ve already spoken with your teachers, now come along.”
Claire and Toby shared a look, but followed regardless.
They were led to the parking lot, where a black van with tinted windows waited, a huge red flag, if there ever was one.
“Umm…” said Toby.
“Don’t worry.” Strickler assured.
A man in an army uniform stepped out of the driver seat. “Walter, good to see you again.”
“Glad to see you as well, Samuel. And thank you for following through with your promise.”
“As I said, this is the most interesting thing to happen in a while.” He glanced at the two teenagers in attendance. “We’re just waiting for his mother, correct?”
“She should be here soon.”
Toby muttered to Claire, “Who’s Jorgen Von Strangle over here?”
“No idea.”
And just like that, Barbara pulled into the parking lot, haphazardly parked, and ran over to them, still in her scrubs. “I came as soon as I could! We’re going to get Jim?!”
“What?!” Screamed Toby. “We’re rescuing him?!”
“That is the goal,” the man answered. “I’m General Samuel Attila. I’ve been given authorization to intervene in this situation, given that this project, whatever it is, hasn’t been officially recorded. But, bear in mind, you may not like what you see. We may be bringing home Jim, or just his body. I don’t know. So if anyone is uncomfortable with that idea, I suggest you stay behind.”
“I’m going,” Said Toby. “No matter what.”
“Me too,” said Claire. “It’ll hurt, but I want to know what happened to him.”
“Alright, then let’s hurry. The facility is about an hour away.” He ushered everyone into the van, which had two front seats, two benches along the walls, and a gurney in the middle. As soon as everyone was buckled, they headed out.
“Hey, if you know Mr. Strickler, does that mean you’re a…?”
“A what, Toby?” Asked Walt, with a hint of amusement in his tone.
“A…man of culture?”
“Yes, I am a changeling.”
Toby exhaled. “Okay, it’s like super hard to ask that question when you don’t know who knows, you know?”
“I owe the Trollhunter a debt of gratitude for stopping Gunmar. After he ate the entirety of the Janus order, we the few that weren’t present for his return stayed in hiding. Had Gunmar taken over the world, my death as a traitor would have been slow and painful. We were thinking about sending him a thoughtful gift basket, but I think this is more fun. I love to bully those in lower ranks. The fleshbags get a few pretty badges and think they’re invincible. I love watching them cower!”
Toby leaned closer to Claire. “He was so nice and helpful, I was beginning to wonder if he was actually a changeling.”
“Same! But I actually feel better knowing he’s got ulterior motives, and that they have nothing to do with us.”
“Have you heard from Nomura lately?” Samuel asked Walter.
“She was in Arcadia for a while. She helped with the fight with Gunmar. Right now, I believe she’s on her way back from New Jersey.”
“New Jersey? What was she doing out there?”
“After Morgana and Gunmar destroyed the Heartstone, Jim and Blinky went in search of a new one.”
“Oh, yes. I forgot there were rumors of a source in New Jersey. Did they find it?”
“Yep,” said Claire. “But it wasn’t very big, so we brought it back to Arcadia in a truck. The rest of the tribe is making their way back on foot.”
“Ah, that explains it.” Samuel nodded. “You’re both very lucky. Not many Changeling’s are allowed in Trollmarket.”
“Now that Gunmar’s out of the picture, I’m sure you could visit too!” Toby exclaimed, before getting elbowed in the gut by Claire.
“It’d be nice to see it once. I’m sad I didn’t get to see the Heartstone in its glory, but such is life.”
The rest of the ride continued in relative silence. Strickler and Samuel spoke to each other, mostly catching up. But Toby, Claire, and Barbara were far too anxious to keep up with the conversation.
There were no windows in the back of the vehicle, so there was no way of knowing where they were. From the front, they looked to be in a weaving forest trail.
Then there were huge cement walls in front of them.
Samuel pulled in the front gate.
The man at the gate didn’t look up from his computer. “You’re not authorized to be here.”
“Excuse me?”
“I don’t recognize your vehicle, so I know you don’t have clearance.”
Samuel sat up a little straighter, glaring at the soldier at the gate. “How about you scan my badge first, and then tell me if I have clearance, Lieutenant.”
The soldier gave a little shrug and reached out for the badge, his eyes widening as he caught a glance at the four stars on the man’s shoulder. “Oh.”
“Problem?”
“No, sir. I just…I don’t need to scan your badge, you can go in.”
“Thank you. At ease soldier.”
Toby held back a snicker.
“And, let Colonel Kubritz know she has company.”
“Yes sir.”
“As you were.”
The gate rolled open, and they pulled through.
It seemed like Samuel’s message was received pretty quickly, because the woman that had taken Jim was waiting for them, flanked by soldiers with strange weapons.
“Stay in the car.” He told everyone, before getting out.
“I was not aware of any sort of inspection. You are not my commanding general, and therefore not welcome here. This facility holds highly dangerous equipment and confidential projects.”
“Stand down, Colonel. I am here on behalf of general Adele. I’m here to recover Jim Lake Jr. General Adele will be speaking to you about your discharge.”
“What are you talking about?” She demanded.
“You kidnapped a teenage boy from a hospital. Surely you didn’t think that wouldn’t go unnoticed? I have video evidence of you leaving the hospital with him.”
“He’s not a normal boy—“
“I’d say so! His whole town is hailing him as a hero for saving them from an invasion! I thought this facility was for research on protecting Earth from invaders. And you’re punishing a boy for saving a town?”
“He also destroyed it. Don’t give into their little campaign. Jim Lake Jr. may have done something good once, but that doesn’t stop him from being a monster.”
“I was just in Arcadia, Colonel. There is no damage. There’s no lawsuits against Jim Lake Jr. There’s not even any pending arrests.”
“I have video evidence of his destruction!” She barked.
“Then let the local police handle it.”
She growled, then commanded her men to stand down. “Fine. But if he does this again, no one will stop me from taking him.”
“Actually,” he clarified with a smirk. “You’re being discharged. So you won’t have any means to take him again.”
Her mouth opened in shock, as she fought to find an argument.
But he was a general, he was above her.
“Now, Jim Lake Jr.?”
She grumbled something and started off towards a big central building.
Samuel was quick to beckon the others out of the car to follow him, and headed towards the same building as Kubritz.
When Barbara reached them, she spoke, “you didn’t hurt my son, did you?”
Kubritz didn’t even look at her. “I don’t have to share information with civilians.”
Claire clenched her fists in anger, a black haze coming over her hands.
But Toby simply patted her on the back to ground her.
Colonel Kubritz led them through the research facility, ignoring their questions.
They reached the room Jim was being held in, and she entered her code to open the door.
Of course, Jim wasn’t the only thing in the room, being surrounded by specimens of all sorts of living creatures, but he was right in the center, with a spot light right on him.
“Jim!” Claire shouted first as she ran to him.
The poor boy was naked, lying on his back and strapped to the table with thick iron bonds. His wound from Morgana wasn’t the worst on him anymore, as he was covered in blackened burned spots. The spot that had the amulet was now just a hole in his chest, that went right down to the ribs. Claire could see his heart beating, and his lungs moving, thank god.
“Jim...” she cried, seeing the carnage.
“What did you do to him?!” Toby shouted at the Colonel, but she didn’t respond.
“Honey? Jim? Can you hear me?” Barbara asked, as she assessed the damage.
His eyes opened ever so slightly. “Mom? Is that you? Are you...really here?”
“Yeah kiddo,” she wiped some tears from her eyes. “It’s me, I’m here. Toby, Claire, and Walt are here too. We’re going to take you home.”
His smile was just a hint, and he stated, “I’m tired.”
“I’m sure you are. We’re going to get you fixed up!” She turned to the Colonel. “Get me a gurney or a wheelchair!”
She scoffed. “I don’t take orders from civilians.”
Samuel interceded. “Then get me a soldier who isn’t completely incompetent! If you’re going to continue to endanger the life of this young man, then I suggest you get out of my sight before I endanger yours.”
The Colonel didn’t waver, though a tremor went down her spine. “Lieutenant!” She called.
A man hurried into the room, standing at attention.
Kubritz just gave a roll of the eyes. “Follow whatever order the general gives you.”
“But—“
“No, I’m done.” With one last glare to Samuel, she added, “I'll be sending my evidence to General Adele, then we’ll see who’s the one putting the nation in danger.”
“Go ahead, I’ve already given my report.”
She growled at him, turned and left without another word.
The lieutenant just stood at attention in front of Samuel instead. “Orders sir?”
“Get someone to fetch the gurney from the back of our van, and send for the medic! And get someone to get these shackles off this kid!”
“Sir yes sir!”
Meanwhile, Claire stood right by Jim’s side, holding his hand, brushing the bangs away from his face and combing his hair with her fingers. He had a pretty strong fever.
“You’re going to be alright Jim. We’re going to take good care of you.”
“I’m…cold…” He breathed.
Barbara found some vinyl gloves nearby and got to work examining her boy. “I don’t know about the Troll half, but this tissue looks alright. I don’t see any infection yet, or any tissue death. Of course, we need to get this covered immediately.”
“Where’s the amulet?” Asked Walt. “That’s what’s missing.”
“The amulet!” Barbara addressed Samuel. “His amulet, we have to find it!”
He nodded, “we can’t let these psychos have it. They have no idea what magic it possesses, even without being the chosen wielder.”
Only a beat passed before the army medic came with the gurney, and another soldier came with a crowbar to undo the shackles.
“Lieutenant, we’re looking for an amulet that came with Jim. It’s what’s missing from his chest.”
The Lieutenant blanched. “I don’t know anything about it…I can ask the Colonel?”
“She won’t tell.”
The shackles fell free from Jim’s limbs, but he didn’t seem to register it.
“Alright,” said Barbara, “Let’s move him onto the gurney. We can worry about the amulet later.” It took everyone to lift him and carefully slide him over. Then, he was covered up to his stomach with a blanket.
“You’re going home, Jim. Mi amor, you’re safe now.” Claire whispered, kissing his forehead.
“Hmm…” Jim weakly groaned. “…for the…glory…” But before he could finish, he fell back into sleep.

Just Some Random Fanfic Concepts
So I was going to wait and see if anyone else was interested in me posting up some of my general fanfic ideas. However, I’m bored and struggling to work with the CiM update I’m working on right now. So I’m just going to do it? Also, a heads up to look out for another post coming later, because I want to share some of my Variro YouTube playlist, too.  BUT FIRST, story ideas. You’ll get some working titles for the ones I HAVE working titles for, but otherwise I’m just winging it cuz there are a lot of them. These are in no particular order. Things being higher or lower on the list doesn’t mean they’re more or less likely to be worked on.
#1 - A continuation for Land or Sea (title pending)
So a little background on this one. I got the idea for this one at the same time as I got the idea for Trust is Something Earned. I put which one I worked on first up to a vote on the Tangled Amino.
It’s a mermaid(merman/boy??)!Varian AU that centers on the idea: What if, in Queen for a Day, instead of coming up with a solution that created the amber when interacting with the rocks, Varian creates a different one and winds up getting himself turned into a mermaid instead?
It’ll feature 4 OCs: two created by me, and two created by a friend. The perspective will shift between Varian and an OC that belongs to a friend of mine named Charlotte, Varian’s childhood friend and love interest.
Without spoiling too much, it takes place primarily during the events of season 2 (and maybe stretches into season 3). It switches perspective between Varian, who’s sent to live in the ocean after the accident and becomes friends with an adventurous merboy named Caspian who helps him rediscover his passion for science and alchemy, and Charlotte, who’s left behind in Corona and is trying to rediscover her sense of self and direction after losing her best and only friend. Charlotte’s perspective will help show how the premise changes events in Corona, while Varian’s is wholly original.
The other OCs that will be involved in the story will be my OC Adrian Claire, who followers of TiSE will know, and my friend’s OC Henry.
#2 - Stitched Together (originated from Ragdoll)
Okay so the original premise for this was for it to be a Variro story. The focus was Hiro living a double life: a college student in San Fransokyo who realized the existence of the several magical realms that ran parallel to his home after discovering he had magical blood passed down from his mother (maybe even throwing in superhero and making it a triple life - poor Hiro). He finds what’s known in the multi-realm as a living doll - a doll that gained a soul either through devotion and affection of a previous owner and desire to become more human, or having a human soul literally shoved into it.
Varian, his doll, is the latter. Due to crimes against his home realm of Corona and his own uncontrollable magical talent, they forced him into having his soul magically “stitched” into a rag doll, until Hiro’s magical talent allowed him to awaken.  However, because of his nature as a living doll, Varian now depends on and is subservient to Hiro, but the two soon grow a bond much closer than expected.
Now, after working on the lore and world of the story, I’ve grown its scope a little. Rather than simply being a crossover with Tangled and Big Hero 6, I want Stitched Together to be a bigger-scale crossover, including How To Train Your Dragon and the Tales of Arcadia series as well.
It’s going to be Hiccup/Hiro/Varian, along with Jim/Claire from ToA being close friends with the trio. They’re all going to be young wizards from different realms, with different magic specialties studying in Arcanum, the central realm that connects all magically advanced realms. Other characters from each series will show up as well! You’ll see a bit of all of them, it’s a pretty enormous project.
#3 - Maybe some Hogwarts Shenanigans?
I’d really like to do a short, maybe 7-chapter story on the Hogwarts Headcanons for the OT3 I did a while back. The big issue is I’m still trying to figure out where I stand on posting Harry Potter/Hogwarts content after the whole J.K. Rowling thing.
It’d be a chapter focusing on each year the three spend at Hogwarts together, some key moments through the years, and things like that. Just a small, random story about some kids at Hogwarts having fun.
Might do it, might not, we’ll see.
#4 - Time Travel Variro Fic (title pending)
This is another one sort of meant to run alongside season 2 of TTS, and maybe s3. It also replaces the S3 of BH6 the series. Just cuz.
Basically Varian escapes after being put in prison, and decides the best way to save his dad is prevent the amber from capturing him all together. Vindictive, feral little villain raccoon decides that if he can’t have his happy ending, he won’t let Raps have hers and plans to make a time machine so he can go back and prevent Eugene from rescuing Raps.
Unfortunately, a slight user error and hiccup in his plans (namely the fact that Ruddiger doesn’t appreciate being left alone and hops in the machine with him and all the noise and flashing lights of a steampunk-medieval time machine spook him) causes him to catapult into the future instead.
Meanwhile, Hiro’s dealing with his friends moving on to find work, his own internship at KreiTech while attending school, and being fifteen and struggling with hormones and his sexuality finally starting to rear its ugly head after being dormant for 15 years of being in an ongoing relationship with SCIENCE (aka he’s seeing guys, thinking ‘he’s cute/handsome’, and he’s PANICKING). Then, as he’s on his way home from internship one day, a random af raccoon tugs at his pants leg until he finds a boy in weird clothes unconscious in an alley somewhere
Varian, after being woken up, and unsure if he should bring up that he’s from the past or not, makes up a fake story about running away from a small town. Hiro, feeling there’s something more but empathetic to Varian’s story, invites him to stay with him at the Lucky Cat and introduces him to Cass.
Varian is stand-offish at first, absorbed in his “pet project”, as he calls it around Hiro. Basically, the machine didn’t time travel with him, he’s stuck, and is determined to get home and continue his plan. Hiro, however, is drawn in by the mysterious boy and tries to reach out to him and open him up.
Varian catches on to modern technology and science pretty darn quickly. He’s a smart boy. He also stays holed up in Hiro’s lab or the room they allowed him to borrow reading all day. Until finally Hiro cracks him out of his shell, he starts attending SFIT, and meets the rest of the BH6 crew.
There’s more to the story than this but that’s all I’m saying for now. Lots of drama, tension, etc, and just a fun time as boys discover their sexualities, learn where they can call home, and all that good stuff.
#5 - In Someone Else’s Shoes (Time Travel Team Awesome Fic!)
So this one is kind of meant to work in tandem with the Variro fic. While the Variro fic explores Varian failing in his plan and getting catapulted into the future, this fic shows the results of what would happen if the time travel worked.
It centers around Team Awesome! Varian travels back to the past, and tells Eugene that he dies if he hides in the tower. He convinces him that he’s his partner in his future, by knowing his name and stroking his ego a bit. But inform him that the crown will lead to nothing but trouble and his death (conveniently leaving out the part where he meets the love of his life and gets brought back from the dead because of a magical healing flower).
The alteration to the timeline erases the former Varian’s existence and overwrites the Varian of the new timeline with his memories - giving him the memories of both the former and current timeline. He wakes up in bed at the palace, being woken up by his personal attendant Flynn (Eugene, who only allows Varian to call him by his proper name when they’re alone) and told to get ready for his coronation as crown prince. It turns out, in this timeline, because Eugene and Rapunzel weren’t there to stop him from his running water experiments, the devastation on Old Corona caused the death of his dad and several others. Since he was the son of an old friend, and they longed for their missing princess, Frederic and Arianna take him in as their son, and monitor his scientific hobby to prevent him from causing more trouble.
Of course, this won’t do. He confides the truth to Eugene, that he was trying to save his dad by returning to the past (but again, keeping out key elements), and the two decide to work together to rebuild the time machine and alter the past without the catastrophic results.
Won’t spoil too much, there are some wild twists and turns here. But it’s one I’m really looking forward to, again!
#6 - Maybe some Percy Jackson/Camp Half-Blood shenanigans
I’d just really like to make some Camp Half-Blood AU stuff. It’d be more a series of one-shots, or just a story that jumps around in time in the course of it.
Crossover with Tangled, Big Hero 6, Tales of Arcadia, and How to Train Your Dragon with a focus on (as usual) Hiccup/Hiro/Varian.
Not going to say too much about it though, because I want to do an AU Headcanons post with some details on this one! I have lots of ideas. Some you might expect, some you might not.
#7 - Hercules Inspired Variro Fic (Title pending!)
So this one is wild. Basically, after the events of BH6 s1, Obake escapes. He stays on the run, escaping to Germany, and finds a young boy of genius on par with Hiro, but in the field of Chemistry, and takes him under his wing.
Varian is distraught after his father, who’d contracted an incurable disease, falls comatose. The government does nothing to help him, even though he has friends that hold political power, and Obake uses that to lure him into becoming his protege.
The pair lie low for a while, wreaking a little havoc in Germany while Varian looks for a cure for his father. The boy dabbles in all manner of fields while trying to help his dad, and before long finds out that the last component he needs is in America, in San Fransokyo.
Varian, now in his early 20s (which means Hiro is too!), Varian travels to America. He’s currently working as a villain under Obake while daylighting as the head of a German medical research company.
He meets Hiro by chance. He flirts a little, but tries his best to keep his distance while trying to achieve his goals. Unfortunately, Obake notices how flustered Hiro gets around Varian, and has Varian continue flirting with and pursuing him as a form of distraction, and confides in him about Big Hero 6 and their identities. Varian is against it at first, but goes along with his mentor.
Varian continues flirting with Hiro, gets in with the group as a friend, and begins distracting Hiro and sabotaging Big Hero 6 while working on a plan to steal the last component he needs for his cure - a solution being stored under high security at KreiTech - where Hiro works, partnered with Krei.
It’s Hercules inspired so there’s a bit more to it, but that’s all you need to know for now!
#8 - Phantom Thief Varian! (Title Pending)
Similar to the time travel one, this one KIND of links with the Hercules-inspired one. It’s not necessarily meant to link narratively or thematically, like the two time travel fics, but it has some similarities.
Namely the fact that Varian came to America after forming a company to research a cure for his terminally ill father. Whether or not Quirin is comatose in this one, I don’t know.
But it’s hard for a small company to get the influence or money Varian would need for his research. So, he steals valuables and rare compounds and materials to fund his research and keep him going, under the name “der Waschbär”, which Google Translate tells me means “the Raccoon” so I’m rolling with it.
He meets Varian in a business meeting with KreiTech, or one of those fancy business parties or something along those lines. They become infatuated with each other pretty quickly (as adults that are more sexually aware, I always picture these two precocious kids being pretty flirtatious when attracted to someone so they just kind of click pretty quickly).
It’s basically the story of Varian, the charming phantom thief who worms his way into Hiro’s life, and Hiro, the superhero aiding the cops in his capture. All while being completely oblivious to each other’s identities and flirting/pursuing each other constantly on the side xD I just like phantom thief stories okay?
#9 - POKEMON!!!!!
Yeah, I still want to do something with these pokemon headcanons
I’m still not entirely sure what kind of pokemon thing I’d want to do. Similarly to the other ones centered around my headcanon posts, it would probably be something I write in short bursts or one-shots and such.
I’m not sure if I want to do something focusing solely on Corona as a region and the Tangled Characters, or continuing the Hiccup/Hiro/Varian that the headcanons focus on.
#10 - The VTuber AU
Yes, I’m doing this! I’ve fallen neck-deep into the VTuber pit, and I love the idea of a VTuber Varian. I feel like his avatar is probably a combined effort between him and Rapunzel, who would probably be the artist behind his character. He’s probably an independent VTuber, streaming on his own with his own model - either because he was genuinely curious about the boom and wanted to try it, or due to the influence of his friends (whether a bet or something along those lines).
As stated in a previous post, I feel like his vtuber character is super steampunk, and probably raccoon-temed. There are a lot of VTubers that use the animal-ear look after all. His VTubing character is super chaotic, and tends to fly solo when streaming.
Hiro is a pretty big gamer himself, but never got big into VTubers. He felt it was just a fad attached to regular streamers, and never really got into watching other people play games, so vtubers make it even weirder really.
He was looking for help getting past a certain point in a hard game, though, and in his search came across Varian(in the fic, his VTuber identity will have a separate name! I just haven’t htought of one yet) streaming the game, and stuck around to see what he did in that part, and wound up staying because he was chaotic and fun to watch. Before long, he realized he was watching clips from previous streams and catching his streams regularly. The others start teasing him about it.
Meanwhile, Varian, who’s recently joined in with the group after having started SFIT the year or semester after Varian (maybe Year, since Hiro can be watching it while the others graduate and start looking for work, since he doesn’t really have any other friends in SFIT so he just kind of falls into it to pass time)
Still dunno how he figures out Varian is a VTuber, and whether it’s before or after they start planning though. I just rcreated this one it has work to do.
Anyway that’s about it. There’s probably a few smaller ones I put off to the side of my brain for the time being that didn’t get added here. I forget which ones I start planning a lot and I almost never write them down, I just plan them in my brain as I go and the ones that stick are just keepers. Hope you like these though! Curious to see what everyone things and which of the ideas the, like, 20 of you that follow me like.

Reaction to ‘Wizards’
There were some elements of Wizards that I was quite pleased with and others I found disappointing.
Here are some notes I took while watching it:
“I was busy,” says the guy who was ASLEEP.
Cuckoo clock in bookstore looks like Bular’s head.
Green Knight can teleport, confirming potential parallel character to Angor Rot and Tronos Madu, both yellow-eyed assassins with teleportation and tragic backstories (later confirmed, yes, there are parallels between this character and those two besides the visual one)
Jim always tips at the cafe; yup, that sounds like Jim
Gunmar saving Jim: irony. Is Jim going to go to the Gumm-Gumm camp now?
Confirmation that portrait was Arthur and Guinevere and she is “gone”, presumably by magic or killed by a troll - is she dead or did she just leave? (Later confirmed, dead)
Morgana’s name is carved on the tree under Arthur’s and Guinevere’s - was she in love with Guinevere too?
Is that Nari with Morgana and Guinevere? (Later confirmed, yes)
Stone doll Callista finds looks like Angor’s totems - same village? He said it was “Gunmar’s war” that destroyed it, and she says it was a human attack, but Angor might’ve seen it as a retaliatory attack by the humans which Gunmar’s actions had provoked?
Arthur being the one to cut off Morgana’s hand makes Merlin SLIGHTLY less of an asshole for using it in the Amulet, but a lot of this still could’ve been avoided if Merlin had been willing to shut up and listen.
Oh, except it wasn’t Arthur who cut off Morgana’s hand the first time anyway?
Episode 3 ends without Steve getting knocked on his back, so that scene must’ve been his sparring match with Lancelot in Episode 2 instead of keeping it an Episode 3 tradition (like how Zuko and Iroh hug in Episode 18 of each season of Avatar the Last Airbender)
Why would Douxie be grossed out at the idea of swimming naked? Swimsuits have only been around for, what, 80 years? Presumably it was a specific lack of desire to see Steve naked.
Neat take on the Lady of the Lake.
AAARRRGGHH used to have a triple set of horns - what happened to the other two? Receded, amputated, knocked off? Also, Gunmar says AAARRRGGHH is ‘holding back’ when they spar and has yet to win against him - if AAARRRGGHH was doing that on purpose, this supports my theory that he was debating how safe it was to stay on Gunmar’s side for some time before deserting.
Morgana possessed?
Angor Rot saved Morgana/recovers her body and gives a funerary-sounding blessing, showing he was sympathetic to humans before losing his soul
Oh, and Nari gave her the new hand
Wait, so who steals Angor’s soul in this timeline?
Called it on that servant guy being a Changeling - he appears in the background of, like, every scene that episode where they’re talking about Morgana using unexpected strategies to sneak into Camelot.
Wait, except his human form is an adult - so is he a polymorph? Or Familiars can be taken as adults but babies are easier to contain and have less ‘established personality’ to match after replacing them? Or has Morgana already been creating Changelings? AAARRRGGHH calls Jim “impure” when they meet in Dwoza, suggesting Gumm-Gumms already know what Changelings are, except Morgana wasn’t working with them yet
Is Callista going to be Deya? (Later confirmed, yes)
Show seems to be matching up with old theories about Deya being the first Trollhunter, confirming that the show, comics, and novels are all separate continuities (since comics and novels show pre-Deya Trollhunters).
Gumm-Gumm berserkers - mind-controlled or grit-shaka’d (talisman of “no fear”), to throw themselves into sunlight like that?
Steve seems ready to refer to any half-decent older man as his dad, like when he refers to Merlin as ‘Wizard-Dad’. Maybe it’s because I was watching Brooklyn 99 recently but I’m reminded of Jake Peralta.
Big Jim’s crystal neck protrusions look like Strickler’s knife collar back when I thought that was part of his body. Glowy lines look like Gunmar; tie-in to Gunmar born of a “corrupted Heartstone” since Jim is “corrupted” now?
Aw, Krel called Ricky his dad.
How did AAARRRGGHH fit through the HexTech door to the backroom?
“Cat and mouse” line cuts to a shot of Archie obviously imitating Nari (confirmed a few minutes later)
Toby has obviously seen Ghostbusters. “When someone asks you if you are a god, you say YES!”
Decoration in bookshop looks like Angor’s head.
Was that lightshow of Nari searching the world for Jim’s soul just a visual metaphor for her powers or did literally everyone on Earth see that?
“There’s a force neither of us can escape - gravity!” says the woman who can fly.
Morgana’s occasional echo-y voice in Trollhunters matches Bellroc and Skael - possession/magical-influence related?
So did Merlin have that book on him or did his body turn into the book?
Are all dragons fluffy and/or shapeshifters in this universe?
Might’ve been smarter to keep Merlin’s staff intact and destroy the Grimoire so the Arcane Order never knows where to find the Genesis Seals, just saying.
If Morgana didn’t become “the Eldritch Queen” until, like, IMMEDIATELY before Angor approached her (therefore days earlier at most in the unaltered timeline), how had he heard of her to seek her aid? Was he actually reaching out to the Arcane Order? At least this explains why he didn’t go to the Trollhunter for help - there was no Trollhunter to approach yet.
Big Jim ‘dies’ in the same pose as AAARRRGGHH in Trollhunters Season 1 and Draal in Unbecoming, both false death scenes, for five-second foreshadowing Jim was alive.
Mixed feelings about him being human again - like I’ve said, I didn’t think the Troll Jim subplot was well-executed but I also felt like, now that it’s been established, the show needs to stick with it. Since everything’s over I’m going to headcanon Jim having shapeshifting powers now and being able to switch between human and troll at will, he just didn’t think to try to do so on-camera.
Also, I feel like Jim’s relationship with Claire is once again completely overshadowing his relationship with Toby, instead of them being different kinds of relationships with equal weight.
Barbara is going to be pretty shocked when her human son shows up again. She and Strickler don’t appear at all in this series, even in cameo.
Maybe Jim’s not a troll anymore because, with Merlin and Morgana both dead, their magic is “broken” and that’s what was holding his transformation in place? Merlin’s through the potion, Morgana’s through the Changeling femur, both through the Amulet.
Is Jim still going back to New Jersey? Blinky’s got to, unless the trolls there have elected a new leader or they’re bringing the New Jersey Heartstone back to Arcadia.
Series ending scene also would work as the final scene of a movie, setting up a sequel hook even though it’s supposed to be over now.
Seems like wizards are long-lived and age really slowly? Possibly a “will not die but can be killed” situation, like vampires, or unicorns (at least in The Last Unicorn)
Additional thoughts after finishing the show and thinking for a while:
I don’t get how Morgana could end up with such a reputation among trolls - enough to have superstitions about her, seen when Dictatious objects to Usurna saying her name - when they only interacted with her for like a few days at most. I guess she made a pretty strong impression on Gunmar, who passed that on to everyone else? Or maybe she cultivated that reputation over time via the Changelings?
Speaking of the Changelings, does this mean that, while Morgana designed the process to create them, she doesn’t make each individual one? Otherwise she would’ve had to pre-make a bunch in the time between getting her new hand and being trapped in the Heartstone. Although, if she can steal Angor’s soul remotely (with the idea she was already trapped in the Heartstone when that happened), she can probably also make Changelings remotely.
I’m kind of sorry the Changelings got invented so quickly; I figured there would be some trial-and-error to that process.
How I think the Original Timeline went:
Morgana would’ve turned to the Arcane Order seeking magic allies, later in the day that gets changed when the time-travelers arrive. Possibly she seeks out Nari, specifically, remembering her from childhood.
Merlin then sees Morgana as the Future Threat and he or one of the knights (not Arthur) cut off her hand in the resulting fight.
Merlin makes the Amulet. It chooses Callista, who is still in Camelot’s dungeon at the time, and she agrees to fight Gunmar in exchange for her freedom.
She fully intending to go back on the deal and run for it, but then something-something-something and she learns her original name and saves the world anyway. Probably she’s the one who took down and imprisoned AAARRRGGHH in Dwoza, which inspired the other trolls there to follow her.
Morgana finds out about the Trollhunter shortly before Angor arrives to ask her for magic, which is why she orders him to hunt the Trollhunters down.
Arthur thinks Merlin killed Morgana and wants to avenge her, leading him to the Arcane Order for the original not-time-loop-prompted attack.
Show did a good job establishing and developing Douxie’s relationship with Merlin
Also, how did that bookshop end up a center of Merlin’s power? He’s only been in the modern world for a few months. Did he set a shop up off-camera while the trolls were travelling to New Jersey and the Akiridions were discovering Earth?
How did Ricky Blank lose his head, anyway? Can Hex Tech fix him? Krel says magic and Akiridion tech combine harmoniously.

Lets half-ass a discussion about Merlin at 2 3am!
Stop me if you heard this one before:
An old man goes out into the world set firmly on a code for chivalry, going on an unending quest to do what he thinks is good, causing more problems in the process, making ladies uncomfortable, and did I mention making more problems? While the subtlety of reality passes over his head.
Now with that in mind Lets Talk About How Merlin’s character design reveals so much about him, and how I don’t think it isn’t a coincidence so many people associated that design to Don Quixote.
In fact the mere association to Don Quixote is a big tip that things aren’t what they seem, and I’m not just talking about seeing giants out of windmills, but rather how the perseption of the character Don Quixote has changed so much in the public consciousness.
That there is an intentional (I think) dissonance between expectation and reality.
Our first thoughts of Don Quixote is perhaps this fuddy duddy old guy on a quest to live out the adventures and chivalry of his books, and romanticizing said lessons while trying desperately to put them into practice.
From, The Man of La Mancha singing about Dreaming the Impossible Dream
youtube
Or to go even further the fuddy duddy old guy in the ballet interpretation of him, doing roughly the same thing although following the book a bit more, and yet conveniently dropping a few details  ( for those interested you can find the full 2hour ballet with Natalia Osipova, with the choreography by Rudolph Nureyev,  here [ x ] )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And maybe, if you’ll bare with me...maybe once Merlin did see himself as that, specific, Don Quixote does here...once...doing what is right and just...once believing himself to be this fantastical noble chivalric version of himself...truly believed it. Maybe at some point our Merlin got wrapped up in this preconceived notion of himself in the name of what he thought was right (his version of the chivalric code) blind to the consequences...and perhaps over time becoming not so blind to his actions the harder the ‘choices’ became and the ‘bigger the picture’ he saw.
Who’s to say? This bit we’ll just have to wait and see how the story pans out. (I’ll save the discussion and HC on how Merlin and Morgana are just like two gods messing with a giant chess board without paying too much care as to what happens to their chess pieces, for another time)
I don’t have the skill of screen shots, but there’s this...this moment of eerie stillness that is so weighty when Merlin has Jim tied up. No Dialogue. Just the two characters sitting in front of the other. That is just silence. A pause. A beat. Merlin can barely even look at Jim. Inviting the audience to reflect while Merlin reflects on how best to answer Jim’s question:
“Why me?”
And delivery wise? [ chef kiss ] amazing. The whole ordeal? With the fight and the cornering and the idea of choice that isn’t entirely there?
Like, all the power to the writers there to have me realize what a horrible situation this is. Like I was on edge and side eyeing this Merlin since he first woke up, from that stranger danger approach to Claire, how he spoke to Blinky and Strickler and just uugh lot of red flags.
AND YET
This show invited me to contemplate and sit in this situation with these two characters. If I could I’d shake all the writers hands. Like WOW what a horrible situation! I felt it!! Gutturally!! You did your job team, and I appreciate it and thank you. h e c k
Like what a moment to reveal (or rather show the last straw) this uncanny bad side to a character the public consciousness up to very recently and thanks to several tv adaptations and a few movies had us think Merlin is right off the back a good guy and WHAM the rug is pulled right out from under us and just WOW.
You know who else isn’t an all together great guy, who the public consciousness transformed into this fun old guy who means well and just wants to romanticize chivalry and a code long since gone Dreaming that Impossible Dream re-imagined into a tragic out of touch man?
Don Quixote. Well...Alonso Quixano to be more precise
I could go on but Overly Sarcastic Productions explains it with an eloquence far better than mine. Here’s a link to the video if it’s not working here [ x ]
youtube
Some neat take aways:
Don Quixote (written in 1605 by Miguel de Cervantes) was written as a critique and dissection of the at the time popular chivalric romance. Basically the Arthurian and expanded mythos.
The protagonist causes more problems than good to those around him. To the point other plots just fly over his head.
Dulcinea ( or rather how the protagonist treats women)
How the reality of the plot is so much more interesting and complex than the fantasy in Alonso’s mind
Duality.
Really, I invite everyone to check the video out it’s [ chef kiss ] neat!
tldr: I don’t think the character design choice was a coincidence, but intentional. As most character design choices are. After all character design is a way to describe a character visually to the audience in as blunt or as subtly as the creator needs. Yet here served as a sort of juxtaposition of two literary characters who both had their nature and how they were perceived change in the public consciousness over time (which is really neat to use story wise and keeping the audience on their toes, and use as a foreshadowing device .)
In one corner Merlin transforms from Welsh legend, to Christian Arthuriana be it half demon or advisor, to wise old helpful teacher, to what we have now
In the other Quixote transforms from a questionable old man used as a critique to the genera of chivalry, to opera and ballet centerpieces, to Dreaming the Impossible Dream and embodying fully that persona almost from the get go.
Now if the design choice is for this association in particular I’m not sure. For all I know there might be more information in the art book which I don’t own. Or something will come up in the story proper, which I’m very excited to see what will happen in Wizards! Where will this rollercoaster go?!
I don’t really know where I’m going with this. I guess I just find it fascinating how characters can be taken and changed through the public eye over time. Take the Wicked Witch of the West for example.
but I digress.
Tune in next time and I might half ass about  Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Merlin, who, while also being a Roman Catholic Cleric, was inspired by local Welsh legends of Myrddin Wyllt (Myrddin the Wild by Elis Gruffydd a Welsh chronicler, transcriber, and translator) a poet and seer, who’s stories resemble that of a figure named Lailoken.
Or maybe it’s not that deep, but for now I think I’ll tap out of this rabbit hole.

Death and All That Follows (Ch. 2)
A03
Fandom: Trollhunters
Rating: K
Words: 4000~
Summary: When Merlin's elixir began to work its magic, it cleaved the then-human trollhunter's soul in two. One half lived on in a hybrid's body. You know how this portion of the tale goes, of course.
But what of the other half? What happens to him?
Well... this is his side of the story.
Chapter One
Note: Unfortunately, fic circulation online is getting harder and harder as the months pass. Please, if you read to the end and enjoy, consider helping me out by reblogging this post, or even commenting/giving kudos over on AO3. Thanks! :D
Chapter 2
His soul eclipsed with sheer happiness and relief, he practically threw himself at his once-thought-lost friend. For a split second he feared it was all grief and smoke and mirrors, that he’d merely phase right through the troll’s blue tinted spectral form, even though grabbing Kanjigar’s hand earlier surely proved this world had some degree of solidity. But blessedly, this was not so. Draal stumbled one step backwards as Jim wrapped his arms as far around him as he could, dropping his head against his chest.
“You’re alive,” he gasped in relief.
“Not alive, regrettably. Not really. This is the Void, remember? I’m nothing but a ghost, same as all the others.”
“I don’t care! I watched you die,” he said, barely able to croak out that last word in his hoarse state. “You took that knife for me, and then you fell and you turned to stone and died, a- and the cavern collapsed, and I couldn’t even stop, couldn’t mourn, o- or-“
“Jim,” Draal reminded in an almost uncharacteristically gentle manner. “My death is not your burden to bear. It is my life and my honor to serve the trollhunter. To… to watch over my friends. And I can rest easy knowing that at least that part of my duty has been fulfilled.”
“But you’re my friend too,” he said, peering up to meet his green and gold rimmed eyes. “I should’ve protected you, should’ve saved you! I was so close, and then…”
Instinctively, he lifted his hand to dab away tears with his palm, before finally realizing with shock that he hadn’t actually been crying at all. He didn’t notice until now but he never had been here, at least not in any physical sense. His heart wept, and he felt like his eyes were puffy and wet, but they somehow… weren’t. Why weren’t-? Oh. Oh, of course. He was a spectral being now. His body was nothing more than an outline of hard light, woven together by the might of ancient magic. And much like the Void’s window to reality, this instinct to feel the tangible effects his emotions summoned was merely an afterimage of the human life he’d left behind. Unneeded habit. Distantly, he wondered how long it’d take for habits like these to fade away, but at recalling the centuries many of his predecessors had spent in this place he quickly shoved this distressing notion into the back closet of his mind. He’d address that elephant in the room later. Much… later.
One day, just one day without a double dose of existential crisis, that’s all he wanted. Wow, it’s almost depressing how low the bar was.
Draal moved Jim’s small hands off his stone skin, breaking their embrace. His expression shone with genuine affection, but also a lingering sense of duty.
“Nevertheless, it in the past. Now is not the time to mourn what could have been, not when there’s still a battle to be fought.”
“He’s right,” Deya spoke up from behind them. “Deep beneath Arcadia’s streets, while the trollhunter trains under moonlight, the dark magic grow stronger with each minute that passes. We can sense it.”
“Morgana,” spoke a distant, stray soul in a mournful baritone, flitting about around them in a flickering azure haze.
“Morgana!”
“Morgana is free.”
“The Pale Lady!”
He swallowed hard. The reminder of the eldritch witch who’d tormented his friends only served to heighten his anxiety, festering like an incurable itch in his overactive mind. Another soul moved in haste right past his ear. He bit back a yelp as he flinched, dodging it. Its whispers were fervent, in rhyme, teetering on the edge of madness:
“She returns in haste and fury, Clad in emerald without light! Crystal’s flame will burn no longer, Snuffed out by Eternal Night-“
Deya lifted a hand towards this restless spirit. “Peace, Heliosa, peace. I promise, our hour of glory will soon come.”
Heliosa’s cryptic whispers abated at her words. Her spectral form grew still, hovering in the space between Draal and Jim. It seemed she didn’t plan on manifesting fully like the others, however. Odd. He scoured his mind as he gawked at the spherical light, trying to test if his knowledge could place a face to her name, but he came up blank. History lessons in Blinky’s library felt so achingly distant now. All those lazy evenings between missions spent in the warmth and familiarity of Trollmarket… the nights Aaarrrgghh let Claire and him lean against his back as he rested, and how his mane of hair always engulfed them… Toby, twisting the amulet’s antiquated translations of A Brief Recapitulation into endless puns… the in-joke he shared with Blinky once upon a time, with their running tally of the (rare) occasions they caught Vendel smiling…
His features softened at the rush of fond memories.
“-may recall from Blinkous’ many, many lectures, is one of the most spiritually attuned trollhunters, and-“
Hold on, when exactly did Kanjigar start talking again?
“Wait, wait, wait,” he spluttered, holding up a hand. The elder trollhunter paused, peering at him with pursed lips. “Sorry, what? I, uh- I kinda blanked out there a bit. Sorry,” he repeated, desperately ignoring the slight embarrassed crack in his voice.
Draal titled closer to whisper in his ear, or at least as close to a whisper his bombastic friend could manage. “My father was introducing you to Heliosa the Harbinger.” He gestured towards the soul still hovering between them, its inner light pulsing at a heartbeat’s pace.
“Oh!” Distantly wondering if there was any way to save this conversation, he rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet. God, he might as hell have stuffed them in his mouth. “Uh- hello. I’m… Jim. Jim Lake Junior. Although you probably all know that already, so-“
Deya bestowed him a thin, pitying smile. “Be aware, she’s become a troll of few words within the past decade or so. Today is quite the rarity.”
“Hence why we’re introducing her,” his immediate predecessor nodded. “She only speaks in verse. You’ll soon grow used to it.”
Heliosa, still manifesting as a burst of spherical energy, began to dance in unpredictable corkscrews around the small gathering. The display left him mesmerized, gaze obediently following the faint trail of her glow like a cat’s paw to a pen light. Once more she spoke, her willowy voice laced with an unquestionable arcane authority:
“I foresaw the choice of Merlin, Knew the Lake of fate’s design, Centuries prior, time predicted Hunter born of humankind. Born of flesh, remade forthright Daylight’s child chained by night By wizard’s magic forged anew To eclipse Darkness with their might.”
The three trolls standing beside him gawked— Deya and Kanjigar in noticeable awe— clearly not expecting such a vocal presence from this trollhunter of old today. However, where their reaction brought pleasant surprise, all he felt was… well, the only way he could think to describe it was as a sort of reverse dread. His brow creased, her prophetic truth leaving him hollow. It stripped him bare, like a pumpkin with all its guts scooped out. With a spoon. He found the mere idea that destiny wove the threads of everything he’d experienced— that despite his many gambles and unpredictable strategies she’d led him by the hand to this very moment unhindered by chance— deeply uncomfortable. If fate really was his master, then… then he must be nothing. A minuscule, predestined knot in life’s tapestry. A mere pawn, his choices be damned.
Not that he ever had one to begin with.
He felt his spectral form collapse into a dense pinprick of light, perhaps to match how tiny he truly felt.
“I- sorry, excuse me,” he breathed, genuinely not knowing if he’d said these words aloud or if they merely existed as an echo within his mind.
Everything revealed since he awoke here suddenly becoming too much for Jim to process at once, he pulled himself away, immediately taking to floating as if second nature. The presence of Draal and all the others grew smaller and smaller as he sank further into the shadows of their metaphysical forge.
Betrayed, by destiny…
Confused.
Alone.
So, so alone.
I have to finish the fight! Alone...
If you walk out that door, you will die!
What choice do I have?
Oh there’s always a choice. Run away, save your skin!
My amulet does not make mistakes…
Despite whatever doubts you may have, it is now bonded to you. This is a mantle you cannot refuse.
I thought you said I had a choice!
I care, I do! I just see the bigger picture...
Your humanity is not enough, you are not enough!
In order for Merlin’s magic to work, something had to be left behind.
...
So what am I, then?
“Jim.”
Ambient noise emanating from the dull thrum of the forge became all but absent at the call. Impossibly stubborn and not desiring visitors in his current state of distress, he shifted his presence further into the shadow.
He was being stupid, he knew. The voice calling was clearly Draal’s. Why the hell was he hiding from Draal? And after all they’d experienced together...
As he tried to evade him, he bumped directly into a solid, warm surface instead. Living stone, life energy pulsing beneath. He felt a hand swipe towards him and he dodged. At this point he genuinely didn’t know if it was out of reflex or because he actually wanted to avoid his friend.
“Jim,” he repeated, stressing his name. “Look at me.”
Even if the only stimuli he could truly intake right now in this form was sound and touch, he swore he sensed the moment he himself pulsed with light, matching the wave of annoyance cresting within his mind.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I kinda can't do that right now,” he shot back.
“I do not mean-“ Draal sighed, the rough sound betraying his otherwise calm facade and revealing his concern. “Look with your soul, not your eyes.”
Despite his current cynicism towards everything in the universe, he gathered his wits and began to focus in on himself. Soul, not eyes. Soul, not eyes. Puzzling, and infuriating. He had no physical form, how on earth was he supposed to—
Oh. Oh. That’s new, he thought, feeling the slight pricking of another consciousness against his own. The consciousness’ shape intrinsically matched with what he knew of Draal, like how one might recognize someone by scent or the timbre of a voice.
“Ah, so you’ve found it. As you can sense now, we exhibit a different kind of sight here.”
“What… is this?”
“We’re the souls of the dead. How else would souls communicate, without the form granted by the amulet’s binding magic?”
“So. Let me get this straight. Basically, you’re saying the physical Void as I know it only exists through Merlin’s magic?”
He gently hovered beside his presence as Draal paused to consider his next words.
“As far as I’m aware, yes? Do remember,” he said, before Jim could probe for information he apparently didn’t have, “I arrived here mere nights ago. Father has only explained so much.”
“Okay, and about that.”
“About-?”
“You. I- I thought the Void was, y’know. Just for trollhunters. How did you…?”
“It was my father’s doing,” he explained. “At his request the elder trollhunters made an exception for me, against the normal rules. That’s all.”
“Well, I’m glad they did,” Jim said softly. “If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that some rules are worth breaking.”
“Some, yes.”
The troll’s presence pulsed with genuine warmth against his soul’s own. He wondered, if he had capacity for sight right now, if he’d see his friend smiling.
“Now tell me, flesh bag. What distresses you at this hour?”
His heart skipped a beat. Well, if he still had a heart, it would’ve skipped a beat. (Language technicality was going to be the death of him here.) In lieu of working organs, he was pretty sure his soul did about the equivalent.
“I’m fine now, really,” he hastily attempted to cover up.
Draal was absolutely not having it.
“Hmm. Interesting.”
“Wh- what is?”
“Your strange definition of ‘fine.’ You ran away, and then hid in the shadow for twenty minutes.”
“Uh- okay, okay. Fine. Or, or,” he stuttered, “not fine, I mean. Just…. there’s a lot to unpack. That’s all.”
“Are you planning to elaborate, or leaving me to ponder forever?”
Jim lapsed into momentary silence again as he considered. Draal was only wanting to help. He knew this. Also, where once his worry was vulnerability, now he literally had nothing left to lose.
“Well for one,” he eventually began, biting sarcasm coating his words, “I’m dead. I killed myself, and now I’m stuck here with a bunch of- of moody former trollhunters for all of eternity. And then. And then! Apparently, it sounds like every day of my life was bound by some divine destiny, or whatever. And I was fine with that, at first, with the idea of destiny. Because I thought-“ the emotion he’d been stifling began cracking through his level headed facade- “I don’t know! I thought it was something I could control. I thought that the amulet chose me for who I was. For being... special, as stupid and selfish as that sounds. But all of this was prophecy, Draal! It was always meant to happen! So what’s the point in it specifically picking me if I was just a pawn to fate all along? And not only that, but one of my predecessors literally knew Merlin was gonna blindside me with all this half-troll business and do they ever consider giving me, you know, a little heads-up? No!”
“It was only a prophecy.”
“Yeah, well it was a prophecy about me! I would’ve wanted to know. Maybe if I had more time, i-if I had the foreknowledge, could actually think on it before just- God, this was all such a mistake!” he cried. He could sense his spectral form growing cold and dim, only suspended by a single thread.
Draal’s consciousness brushed against his in what might have been his attempt at a metaphysical pat on the back.
“You miss your friends,” he observed.
Jim considered levying him a snarky ‘no duh’ in response, but his soul was too weary for sarcasm right now. Instead, with a little focus and a shimmer of daylight, he manifested himself physically once more and wrapped his arms around the one true friend he had left. He pressed his forehead against his chest.
Draal lowly huffed through his nostrils, slowly returning the embrace. While the fierce troll would never admit it, Jim knew from the hours spent fighting by his side that he cared far more than one might assume. Most of the ‘tough guy’ act he exuded was precisely that: a facade. Draal was actually fairly sentimental, and more soft-hearted than a lot of other trolls he knew. (He’d kept a few knick knacks gifted to him by his father in the basement.) If Jim ever brought it up he’d probably throw him in a headlock, though. Some things never change.
“They won’t ever- they don’t know I’m dead,” he said, words sticking in his throat. “They’ll never know, ‘cause to them I’m not-! I-I… can never see them, ever again.”
“I understand.”
He stood there leaning against his friend in relative silence for a time, his breath shaky as he allowed the rest of the emotion coursing through him like an avalanche to gradually dissipate. Draal didn’t budge an inch, still resolute in his duty to support the trollhunter. The smallest of smiles broke through his anguish at this thought, curving across his face. He was so grateful for that.
“Blinky,” he began, small and hesitant, as he pulled away from their hug. “He always said that destiny… that it’s a gift. Thing is, it really doesn’t feel like one right now.”
“Would you like my input, Trollhunter?”
He met Draal’s eyes, the troll peering into his in such a knowing way that it almost made him squirm. “S-sure. Go wild. I’d take anything at this point.”
“You’ve chosen to define the sum of your life as the destination every action leads you towards. But have you considered that perhaps… what matters isn’t where, but how?”
“I’m not following, sorry.”
“Destiny may guide you, act as a beacon for days to come. But in the moment, you decide how you react to the challenges life throws at you. That choice is yours, and yours alone.”
“Oh, great,” Jim muttered, a sour cynicism corroding his tone. “Helpful. So life may suck, but hey! At least I can approach it with a smile!”
“No. That is not what I mean. What happens in the moment has far more impact than you realize, Jim. Consider me, for instance,” he explained, jabbing a finger solidly against his chest. “You chose to spare my life in our duel. A single life. Do you really think the elders’ vague prophecy could’ve ever predicted a young human having the courage to break entirely from tradition, to forge his own path? I wouldn’t be here right now without your intervention. Your camaraderie, and your friendship. Every action— even the smallest— creates ripples, Trollhunter. Do not be so quick to forget that.”
At this reminder, the hollowing of his chest receded, his anxieties ceasing to eat away at him so quickly. Draal was absolutely right. Even moving through the patterns of fate, he still exhibited a great deal of agency. Even within the framework of a game he didn’t create, he possessed the capacity for free will. His grim assumptions earlier were wrong. He wasn’t somebody’s pawn, he was the hand strategically moving the pawn.
Nevertheless, a pang of melancholy ran cold like a shiver through his bones. At the edge of war, he sure hoped his living counterpart realized this too.
“So… what do we do now?” he said. “Not like, about the battle,” he clarified hastily, “but. Just in general? It’s way too quiet here. I could do with some sparring, or something.”
Mischief glinted in his friend’s eyes.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Blue clashed against blue in a myriad of sparks, the magic that held together their physical forms flickering like television static each time they struck a hit. Jim Lake Jr. grinned as he leapt clear of the latest attack. Draal, compressed into a dense ball and unable to slow himself down, continued rolling up the side of the practice ring and clear into the rafters. Somewhere far above, the troll condensed himself to light and all but dissapeared.
“Hah, missed me!” Jim shouted in triumph, backing a few steps up as he scoped the area. His fingers wrapped ever tighter around the hilt of his sword. “Still one hit ahead of you. Y'know, my offer to play easy is still on the- Whoa!"
He manifested his shield in one hand just as his friend, chuckling boisterously, appeared from thin air and swung a playful punch at him. Even in the Void, the contact shot dull vibrations all the way up his arm.
"Not a chance, novice! Tied!" Draal countered, and immediately tucked himself into a ball again. The rumbles of his movement across the stone reverberated powerfully throughout the vast halls.
“What in the name of-!“
Uh-oh.
Jim almost regressed back into his spectral state himself right then and there, the surprise of the elder trollhunter's voice merely the cherry on top after Draal's sneak attack. His form flickered as he returned Daylight to its mount on his back.
“Oh, Kanjigar!” he said, plastering an innocent smile on his face. Draal rolled to a stop in between them, looking equally as sheepish. “Are you here to, uh- to spar too?”
The elder trollhunter pressed his palm against the ridge of his forehead. “Am I here to- no! No, of course I am not! We do not wage battle in the harmony of the Void! And Draal, you too?” he exclaimed, widely gesturing at his son. “Must both of you make a mockery of this sacred space?”
Without so much as a second thought, Draal pointed at Jim. “It was his idea.”
“Hey, excuse me!” he hissed at him under his breath, embarrassment growing evident in his posture. That rat! He bailed him out, and in front of one of the greatest trollhunters to live, no less. Still, Kanjigar  was  his father, (and Jim couldn’t imagine ever lying to Blinky, himself), so he supposed he’d have to excuse the betrayal. He sighed deeply, and leveled his gaze towards the great troll with a demeanor of assured confidence only a fellow trollhunter would ever dare summon. “With respect, I’ve only been here for like, barely an hour, if that, and I’m already dying of boredom.”
Kanjigar blinked, utterly failing to capture the deeper meaning of his words. “I’m afraid I don’t follow. By all measures you’ve already died, Jim.
“I know that I’m-“ he groaned, carding his fingers through his hair. “Never mind, it’s- it’s just a figure of speech. My point is, I’m not gonna just float about the ether and armchair quarterback every single little fight my other self has like you, okay? I- I need something to do. Something that won’t be stressful as hell."
"What, like sparring? Sparring is not customary here."
"Why?"
Draal huffed in annoyance, and began to hollowly recite words his father had likely imparted when he first arrived. "Because the Void is a peaceful domain wherein trollhunters should seek the calming pursuits they never had opportunity to give thought to in life. Supposedly."
"We do not wage battle because our lives were a battle, young trollhunter," Kanjigar stated simply.
"But that's not fair, it's calming for me!"
He pondered on this fact as the words passed his lips, upon reflection surprised at how accurate they were. He'd actually grown to look forward to his training sessions with Blinky or Draal, back before the loss of Trollmarket. They were routine, ever-evolving, and functioned as wonderful stress relief. Many a day he'd spent letting his frustrations out on the forge machinery after a bad Spanish or algebra exam.
“Wow," he said under his breath, mostly to himself. "That's actually true, it really is. Huh. Crazy how much can change in a few months. But!" He lifts a finger for emphasis, talking directly to the others once more. "As I was saying."
"Yes, do continue," Kanjigar said, peering between him and Draal with narrowed eyes. He crossed his arms, thoroughly unimpressed.
Jim's hand moved to cover the amulet, hanging directly over the space his heart once occupied. He glossed his thumb across its rim. "I guess... the crux of the matter is, certain customs of the troll world had to change when the amulet picked a human. And now, with part of me dead, it’s the Void’s turn. I'll keep my distance from everyone else while sparring for courtesy's sake, but for the record, it makes me happy. I don't aim to stop."
And with that bold statement, he let his armor fade into light. The expression of dumfounded shock that crossed that old troll's stony face in response was almost enough to make him audibly bark in laughter for the first time today. He pocketed the amulet, and walked past his elder.
"You coming?" he said, gesturing to Draal. "I thought I'd explore around a bit more."
"Count me in."
“I heard you shouting in the distance. Tell me- what did I miss?” Deya asked as Kanjigar returned to the others.
“Nothing important,” he groused. “Only Lake and my son desecrating every rule they happen to lay their eyes on.”
She tilt her head at him, in a matter-of-fact sort of way. The knowing smile she presented— top row of sharpened, squarish teeth showing between her lips— whisked him back to the time when he the foolish youth called by the amulet, and she was one of his elders. Long, long ago.
“They’re sparring, aren’t they?”
“Exactly! And as dictated, the Void is a place of eternal peace. A peace that currently, they’re uprooting by way of their irresponsible foolishness!”
Deya’s laugh rang out as clear as a bell. “Oh, lighten up, you old misery,” she teased, swinging a punch at Kanjigar’s shoulder. “To hell with the rules. It's perfectly harmless, sparing here. Let the youth have their fun.”

How about troll Jim trying to convince Claire to go live a normal life in Arcadia because he can’t give her the life she deserves, but Claire would never even think about that because she loves him too much.
This might not be 100% what you asked for but I hope you’re still going to enjoy this. Sorry for the wait. @berserkberkian
It might have been her imaginations but it seems that Jim has been avoiding her. It started about two weeks before Claire was going to go back to Arcadia. At first, she chalked it up to both of them being busy - her with training with Merlin and him being the Trollhunter and doing small things around the slowly forming Troll market in New Jersey. It was just such an engaging time for them all.
But then there were also those small things, like, her thinking she saw him talking to Bagdwella but when she’d come closer he’d be gone. Or when she’d definitely see him in the crowd and call him and he’d just pretend not to hear her and try to disappear. Somehow he really got good at the vanishing act. And when they were together he acted so distantly! It was really getting on her nerves.
Finally couple days before she was supposed to return to their hometown she cornered Jim right after his training with Blinky. Quite literally. She pushed him into a corner placing a hand firmly against his chest so he would not try to escape.
“Jim! We need to talk,” she told him with all seriousness.
“Uuuh,” Jim looked over her shoulder at Blinky who gave them both a worried look then excused himself out of the makeshift Hero Forge. “Can it wait? I’m bu-” he still tried to slide away along the wall but she cut him off.
“No! No more running. Jim! What’s wrong with you recently? Why are you avoiding me?” She demanded to know.
“What?” He tried to chuckle and brush it off. “I-, I’m not avoiding you!”
“Yes you are,” she insisted. “Did Merlin tell you something again? I swear when I put my hands on that wizard-!”
“It’s not Merlin.” This time Jim managed to push past her. His shoulders tense. He folded his hands into fists to stop them from shaking. He couldn’t believe what he was about to say. “I- I think you shouldn’t come back.”
“What? What are you talking about?!” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Jim, please. I don’t understand.” She still tried to reach out to him.
Jim inhaled deeply bracing himself then turned to her with the sternest expression he could manage. “You should stay in Arcadia. For your own good.”
Claire blinked taken aback. Stay? For her own good? Was he nuts?
“Why?” she folded her arms on her chest and scowled at him. He better has a good explanation. “You think I’m not strong enough?”
Now it was his turn to be taken by surprise. “What? No! I- argh,” he growled. “I’m breaking up with you, okay?!” He yelled then jumped away, escaping from the situation. He was too fast to chase after.
Storming out of the Hero Forge Claire bumped into Blinky who was wringing his hands in nerves. He must have heard everything that just went on.  At first, she wanted to get angry at him but when she opened her mouth her mind decided otherwise. She leaned on him and sobbed.
“There, there, my dear,” Blinky wrapped his arm around her and patted her head gently.
“Why did he do that, Blinky?” she sniffled trying to wipe her eyes with her sleeve.
“Well, there has to be a logical explanation. I’m sure that Master Jim did that in your best interest,” he tried to cheer her up. “I’ll talk to him and find the reason for this hasty decision!”
Meanwhile, Jim found a quiet hiding spot just by the outskirts of the Trollmarket. It was easy to still find some uninhabited caves and caverns around it since it was much larger than the one under Arcadia Oaks. He needed some peace and quiet. Some time to think about what he had done. It was the right thing to do. He couldn’t just have Claire stick to him, miss on all the human things like he was going to. It wasn’t fair to her. Now she could move on, be an actress.
He imagined couple years from now he’d see her in movies. Sneak into theatres and cinemas just to see her. She’d probably have a boyfriend or family of her own. It stung him to think of this but he had no reason to be jealous. He gave up on this all when he became a half-troll. He couldn’t do this to Claire. She could do so much out there.
He must have lost track of time because suddenly he realized he dozed off and there was Blinky right next to him, smiling.
“When did you get here?” Jim asked him straightening up.
“Just now. You hid very well, Master Jim. I would not have found you if you have not shown me this place before,” Blinky said sitting down. “So, you broke up with Claire?”
“You heard that, huh?” Jim pulled his legs closer to his chest.
“Yes and one thing that boggles my mind is - why Master Jim?” Blinky tilted his head. “You seemed to be getting along so well here in the new Trollmarket.”
“I know Blinky, it’s just…,” the boy sighed, leaning back over the wall, his head hitting it. “I was outside, like right before. And there were those kids, about our age and- they were having fun! Just dancing around, skateboarding. Talking about school and where will they go to college,” he ran his hand over the dirt and rocks in the cave. “I realized that by staying with me Claire is going to miss it all. The normal life. She can go out in the sun, meet new people. Do college. Be an actress!” He looked at Blinky. “I love Trollmarket and I know she does too but… I don’t want her to regret being with me. Here.”
“Master Jim, have you ever thought that your excellent protective instincts might sometimes be…. over-protective?” Blinky said carefully. “Your worries are set so far in the future. Knowing Claire it’s hard for me to imagine her having such claims.”
“I don’t know.” Jim’s shoulders slumped and he looked away. “She’s going back to Arcadia - what if she remembers how it’s like to be normal and doesn’t want to come back anyway?”
“Maybe you’re rejecting her, so she can’t reject you?” Blinky suggested. The pained expression on Jim’s face told him he was correct. “Jim, the troll-kind owes everything to your sacrifices, but maybe you should stop sacrificing yourself before there’s nothing left for you to live for?”
Jim glanced at Blinky from the corner of his eye and said nothing. Strickler was right. The world was a heavy burden on his shoulders. “Blinky, I don’t know how-” he stopped himself not sure how to explain this.
“All you have to do is talk to her,” Blinky put his hand on the boy’s shoulder. “Before it’s too late.” He gestured to the mouth of the cave where Claire stood. “I’ll leave you two to it.” Then he stood up and walked out, nodding at Claire as he passed her by.
Jim looked like a deer caught in headlights. “Claire, I-”
“No,” she raised her hand at him. “I’m still mad at you. Now I’m talking,” she walked up closer to him. “I made my decisions. I, not you. I’m here because I want to. Because I love trolls, I love learning magic, even if Merlin is a jerk. I love our adventures and I am not giving up on them. Finally, I love you,” she reached to his face, touching his cheek lovingly. “Even though you’re being a real butt right now.”
Jim smiled apologetically and she chuckled but then got serious again. “Do you understand me? You need to talk to me, Jim. I’m always going to be there for you, no matter where I’ll be.”
“I know. It’s… going to be hard when you’ll be gone,” he whispered placing his hand over hers.
“We’re not the first long-distance couple. Plus… I talked with Blinky. Even he thinks that maybe you should come with me, for a week.” She said smiling.
“Really?” He stared at her in disbelief, his ears twitching. “But the Trollmarket-!”
“Blinky said he and Merlin will be enough to protect and take care of any issue for couple days,” she reassured him. “You have to promise me we’ll make it through together, understood?”
“Understood.” Jim nodded, suddenly feeling so much lighter. “So… we’re not breaking up?”
“No, we’re not,” she said and he smiled brightly. “But I’m still mad at you!” She clarified. “You better make it up to me.”
“I will,” he agreed eagerly. “Anything you want!” He got up to a crouch.
“Good. Let’s start with a kiss.” She decided and he gladly obliged.

Arcadia or Bust (Part 1)
FF.Net | AO3
I just finished Trollhunters the other day and it was sooo good! This, this fanfic. I’m working on my other stories, as well as writing my new HTTYD fic. But I had some post finale ideas I wanted to experiment with, so I wrote this little, informal fic. Hope you all like!
Thanks @avannak!
Jim, Claire, Arrrgh, Blinky, and Merlin stood in a circle, staring at the stone in front of them.
“So…” began Jim, “This is…it?”
Merlin frowned, “I was really expecting it to be much much bigger, but…this is the presence I’m feeling.”
The pulsing heartstone was about the size of Arrrgh, which was still big, but not quite as big as the old one they left behind in Arcadia. Not to mention, the cavern that the stone was recovered in wasn’t very spacious. In fact, half the party was still out in the sewers. They had to break through a wall to get into the cavern.
“What do we do now?” Asked Claire.
Blinky looked at the wizard. “Is there nothing else you sense?”
Merlin shook his head. “For once, I am at a loss.”
Jim knelt at the base of the crystal and started digging with his claws. “Maybe this is just the tip of it.”
It wasn’t.
In a matter of minutes, Jim and Arrrgh had completely unearthed the glowing crystal. “Well,” began Jim, “we have a portable Heartstone.”
“No, no,” objected Blinky. “This just won’t do! This is not nearly big enough to fit our needs!”
“If you don’t mind,” Claire spoke up. “What does the Heartstone do?”
“What does the Heartstone do!?” Blinky nearly shouted. “Why, it’s the very heart of Troll society! Trolls can survive without it, but we can only thrive with it! The stone has healing properties, which is why, Master Jim, your wound has not healed very much in the last month.”
Jim touched his side gingerly. “I assumed that was because I haven’t been resting.”
“That certainly didn’t help, but Trolls heal differently than humans. Though…I’m not sure how a half-troll heals either.” He studied the crystal before speaking again. “The Heartstone is a beacon for all of Troll-kind. They come from the swamps, lava, and deep caves, just to visit and bask in it’s presence. And we need a Heartstone that can support all of us. And this…boulder could barely support the…1/3 of the tribe that’s here.” He crossed a pair of arms and put the others on his hips.
“Wait,” said Jim, suddenly. “Can we…I don’t know, take this one back to Arcadia?”
“Why?” Asked Arrrgh.
“Well, in science class last year, we learned how to grow our own crystals using a saturated solution. Maybe we can use this as a seed, and grow a bigger one.”
Claire frowned. “I don’t think this one will work like that.”
“Maybe not,” added Merlin, “but you make a good point. If we take this little stone back and put it among the old Heartstone, it might just spread and replenish it’s power.”
“You think that’ll work?” Asked Blinky.
“Not really,” Merlin shrugged. “But it’s better than the alternative. Besides, that cavern has more space in the first place.”
“It can’t hurt to try!” Shouted Jim. Then he stooped to take hold of the bottom of the Crystal. Arrrgh had the other side, and lifted it as well.
Then, two more trolls got in and helped. The stone rose, with great effort, but it was going to be too heavy to carry it the 2,000 miles back.
“Hmm, I suppose a journey to the surface might be worthwhile. At least to find supplies to fashion a cart strong enough to carry this.”
Jim nudged his girlfriend. “How about it, Claire? You and me?”
“Hmm?” Claire blinked up at him, furrowing her brows. “What did you say?”
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m just kind of tired.”
Jim smacked his hand to his head. “Oh no! I totally forgot! We’ve been walking for hours! When was the last time you slept?”
She smiled weakly. “Um…A while ago.”
Jim frowned and easily picked her up. “Let’s get some rest, and we can go up later, alright?”
“Hmm…” She hummed, snuggling up to his chest.
“Ah, of course. Claire still requires 8 hours of sleep. I suppose this can wait.” Blinky shrugged.
Jim adjusted the sleeping girl in one arm so he could free his phone from his armor. A few taps and a call was sent.
“Hey mom,” he said.
“Jim! Hi honey! Oh, it’s good to hear you. But you’re kinda crackly, are you underground?”
“Yeah, so mom…we made it to New Jersey, and we’re all safe...but the Heartstone isn’t really...impressive. So, we’re bringing what we found home.”
“What?”
“It’s…it’s a little…it’s like the size of Arrrgh.”
“That’s not that bad! If you found a diamond that big, you’d be the richest man-er, troll in the world!”
“Well, it’s pretty small in troll standards.”
“Well, I’m not going to complain! And I know Toby and the Nunez’s aren’t either!”
Jim smiled half-heartedly. “It’ll be nice to be close to home. But…things still aren’t going to be sunshine and rainbows. No sunshine, in fact.”
He heard Barbara smile back. “Well, we can make changes. We have before.”
“I love you, mom.”
“I love you too, Jim.”
“Talk to you later.”
Blinky listened on with a tender smile. “Your mother might be one of most loving beings on this earth, including Trolls.”
“She’s pretty good.” Jim shrugged. Then he looked down to Claire, watching her wince and roll her shoulder. Trolls rarely slept, and only as a way to pass the time. Even then, they slept on hard slabs of rock. It was visibly wearing on her.
“Aw, Claire…she hasn’t had a proper nights sleep in a bed since…well, like a month ago.”
“If there was a way, I’d have her sleep in a hotel. Just for tonight at least.” Blinky frowned, also noticing that Claire wasn’t performing at 100%.
A scout had returned from his venture to peek at the surface. “I can’t tell where we are. It’s still daylight out. Nothing much we can do.”
“Alright,” Blinky clapped. “Then it looks like we’re making camp where we can. Don’t stray too far!”
Jim wandered the small cavern, Claire still cradled in his arm, until he found a small alcove. Big enough to fit both of them.
He sat down, and adjusted Claire so she could sleep at least somewhat comfortably.
“If only I could take off this stupid armor.”
That’s when he had an idea and gently laid her down on the rock.
“Jim…?” She muttered.
“I’m coming back. Just rest as much as you can.”
Claire yawned sleepily and settled back down on the floor.
Jim found Merlin propped up against the cavern wall, eyes closed, hands folded in his lap. “Merlin?”
“Don’t you know it’s rude to bother a wizard while he’s sleeping?”
“O-oh…sorry…”
“Well, come on, out with it!” He spoke without opening his eyes.
“Um, it’s just…how do I take the armor off?”
“Turn it off.”
Jim frowned, “The amulet won’t turn off.”
“Hmm…” Merlin frowned and nimbly hopped to his feet. “Well, you did emerge yourself in the water wearing it, which was ill-advised.”
“You didn’t say that!”
“I never told you to wear it.”
Jim narrowed his eyes. Talking to this man was like talking to a brick wall.
Merlin peered at his face, and then at the amulet, then back again. “The Amulet is fused with your skin now. There’s no taking it off.”
Jim groaned. “Are you serious? Because I’m 80% sure I still have a bladder, and other such body parts.”
“I never said you can’t take off the armor.”
“But—“
“The amulet, that stays. It’s like…what was the story I saw on your talking crystal?”
“Uh, the movie on TV?”
“Yes, television. It was…Ironman. I believe.”
Jim nodded. “Oh. Gotcha. Umm…then how…”
“How you’ve always done it. Just relax and let yourself be free from danger.”
Jim closed his eyes and shook out his arms. “Just relax…relax…”
“Gunmar, Angkor Rot, and Morgana are all gone. There’s no threat anymore.”
That they knew of.
“Think about something that makes you feel calm. Your favorite song, or perhaps a favorite meal.”
Food used to be his passion, but now…now it just made him sad.
“Or maybe…” Merlin began, seeing Jim deflate. “The fair Claire?”
Claire did help. But she was so small now, it wasn’t hard to imagine accidentally crushing her. The very thought made him tense.
It was almost as if Merlin had read his mind. “You’ll hurt her if you stay tense like that. You can’t hurt her if your bones are jelly.”
Jim inhaled deeply, then let it go in a exhale, unclenching his fists and letting his head lull forward.
He heard metal clanking, and then a draft.
“There you go,” said Merlin. “Now if you’ll excuse me.” He cracked his neck and settled against the wall.
When Jim finally opened his eyes, he found his armor gone, the amulet on his chest glowing a soft blue. The remains of his clothes were in tatters. His pants had torn at this calves and thighs, now that they were meatier. Likewise, his favorite sweater was ruined, as the sleeves barely held on. He could feel a draft on his back and knew there was a rip back there as well.
He could forget his favorite converse as well, since his toes stick out the sides.
He sat down and undid the laces, freeing his cramped feet. Then he got a whiff of his shoes. A pungent smell; sweaty, moldy, gross, and...
He chomped into the sole without another thought.
He sighed as he swallowed. He was eating a shoe, his own gross, unwashed shoe. And he enjoyed it.
Once the shoes were gone, he wiggled his toes. He felt the ground beneath his feet, feeling each sharp pebble. But there was no pain.
His feet matched his hands. One wider with only four toes and black nails. The other the normal five, and clear nails.
Patting himself down, he would say conclusively, he felt much more comfortable. And the skin that had been hiding was softer as well. In general, his body had not been rock-hard like other Trolls, but it was not as soft as a human’s. Almost like clay. Yes, clay would be proper analogy, Jim realized. A mineral, like other trolls, but malleable, and ever changing.
“Ah…” Jim sighed. “Much better.”
Then his stomach gurgled, loudly.
“Oh man…I have to pee so bad.”
After his deed was done, and all accoutrements were accounted for, Jim found a watering hole in the caves to wash up in.
“Master Jim!” Blinky nearly shouted, startling him.
“What? What’s wrong?!” Jim asked, ready to attack.
“Your armor...it’s gone!” The troll shook his head. “I suppose if you used to take it off, you could now. It’s just...startling. Aren’t those clothes...a bit small for you?”
“Yeah, but I don’t have anything else to wear.”
“Then just take them off. No one cares. Arrrgh doesn’t wear anything.”
Jim blanched at the idea. “Well...I still have human parts in tact. Like...human gronk-nuks.”
Blinky widened his eyes, followed by a soft ‘ah’ sound.
“I’m fine like this for now, but Claire could probably find something bigger on the surface.” Jim pulled on the navy fabric that was stretched to the limit. “And I really liked this sweater, too.”
Jim made his way back to the alcove he had left Claire in. He had found the sleeping bag Claire packed and brought it over for her.
Without the armor, his body felt heavier, and he felt his eyes drooping shut.
In the daytime, when Claire slept, he often laid beside her and let himself doze. But he hadn’t really considered that he also had to sleep. But right now, sleep sounded amazing.
Jim unzipped the bag, to make a large blanket, and then crawled to lay down on the floor.
“Jim...?” Claire blinked her eyes open and stretched, her neck cracking.
“Hey, come here.”
“Hmm?”
Jim scooped her up and rolled over on his back so she could lay on his chest. Then he draped the sleeping bag over her.
Jim felt her hand roaming over him.
“You got your armor off.” She noted. “You’re soft.”
“Really?”
She poked his stomach and his chest, then felt up his arm and intertwined her fingers with his human ones.
“In some places, you’re softer than others. Just soft enough.” With that, she nuzzled into his chest and relaxed to sleep.
Jim raised his trollish hand, examining it in the dim light of the crystal cave. He knew this hand well now, finally getting used to the thickness, color, and missing finger.
Then he glanced at his other hand. The one that had been concealed in armor up until that point.
Comparatively, his skin was peachy-gray. Not quite human yet, almost corpse-like.
It seemed like the armor protected the squishiest, human half of him.
And though he laid on hard rock, he didn’t feel uncomfortable. He’d have to see if his back was more trollish or human.
For now, he was just excited to know that now, their might be a possibility of a future with Claire.
And he was even happier to be her pillow.
