In the intricate world of urban planning and community development, where every street, building, and green space tells a story, there's a parallel narrative that's unfolding in the realms of leadership and governance. This narrative is one of diversity and inclusion, not just as ideals to aspire to but as foundational principles that drive us toward a more equitable, innovative, and empathetic society.

The Mosaic of Leadership

Imagine leadership as a mosaic. Each piece, unique in its shape, color, and texture, contributes to the overall picture. Without the diversity of these pieces, the mosaic loses its depth and vibrancy. Leadership, in essence, is similar. It requires the multitude of perspectives that come from varied life experiences, cultural backgrounds, and professional paths to create solutions that are reflective of the communities they serve.

Inclusion: The Glue That Holds the Mosaic Together

But a mosaic needs more than just diverse pieces; it needs a binder to hold it together — that's where inclusion comes in. Inclusion means creating spaces where diverse voices are not only present but are also genuinely heard and valued. It's about ensuring that decision-making processes are collaborative and that everyone feels empowered to contribute their best work.

Breaking Down Barriers

Yet, the path toward truly diverse and inclusive leadership is fraught with barriers. Systemic inequalities, unconscious biases, and a lack of access to opportunities for underrepresented groups continue to hinder progress. Recognizing these barriers is the first step in dismantling them.

A Call to Action

So, what can we do? We can start by being intentional in our actions and decisions. Support initiatives and leaders that prioritize diversity and inclusion. Mentor and sponsor individuals from underrepresented groups.

An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives

Vote NO on the TikTok ban bill!

I understand that the House Energy and Commerce Committee just passed a bipartisan bill, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, that could ban TikTok in the US by allowing the President to designate it as a national security threat. I oppose this bill. It’s absurd to target one social media platform when foreign governments are active on all of our social media networks and in one of our major political parties. If Congress really cares about adversarial countries influencing and spying on our citizens it should immediately pass strong internet privacy protections. Then it should launch investigations into the Republican members of Congress who’ve spent years spreading Russian disinformation to win elections and also aiding and abetting Vladimir Putin. Will they do that? Thanks.

Toolkit Feedback

October 2020 

We´ve spent the most part of this past month on gather feedback and input from community members on our toolkit. The goal is that this will be a standalone document that communities can use as guide on how to get traffic calming art installed. The feedback we are asking is, if the process makes sense and if we missed out information. The post-its are growing and we are getting a lot of really valuable insights and comments. 

So far we have met and shared our toolkit draft with  Highlandtown, Johnston Square, Impact Hub, Neighborhood Design Center and the Liveable Streets Coalition. 

We are really excited to be able to launch this city wide in the new year. Here is to 2021!!
