TRANSFORMERS NextGen
Today I'm gonna introduce you to some more good ol' sketcheZ of mine. ;)
I am reorganizing my foldiers in order to finish artwork, and I found these precious little first versions, haha.
I named them NextGen, because I had some ideas back then, how some of our favourite bot's children would look like in human version. :)
You can find here Drift's sons and daughter Slipstream, Jetstorm (holy hell I LOVED them in Transformers Robots in Disguise. Adorable!!!) and of course Akiko who is an OC; Crossandra (OC) and Sureshot who are Crosshairs' kids, they were the Targetmaster Family; Ratchet's son Medix - and some of the kids of course fall in love with each other (Medix/Akiko; Jetstorm/Crossandra), because I wanted to see how would different parents would react in different situations, haha XD
There were a scene where Crosshairs grumping about 'that samurai kid" to her daughter meanwhile Crossandra cleanses her weapon, sitting on her bed. (I will add it in the future of you would like to see..) I loved these scenes, because they were fresh and New that time, and of course I wanted to share them like this before I do anything changes, then you'll see how much my style changed since then. :)
Thanks for your time and support. :)))) 💙💚

I haven't seen anyone else do this, so I'm gonna try and see if I can make out what flowers are in the bg of the 5 mtp character cards you get during scene transitions in the anime (and as a bonus, some language behind the flowers based off Hanakotoba)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
William has white lilies (which are also seen in the first opening), which represent purity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Albert very obviously has red roses, which are well-known to represent love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn't immediately recognize the flowers Louis has, but after a quick search it seems that they're daffodils, which represent respect
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sherlock has some very lovely blue irises (which I'm quite fond of myself), and they represent loyalty
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last but certainly not least is John! His was the hardest for me to identify bc I'll be honest, I'm not that knowledgeable in identifying flowers. However, I'm like 95% sure he has crossandras; I couldn't find what they mean in Hanakotoba tho, and upon further research, I couldn't even find if they symbolize anything :( I do know now, however, that they're called "firecracker" flowers for their explosive seed pods tho, so there's smth at least..

Spring is springing here in zone 8! Little plant tour of my front porch for any interested:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: begonia & co corner! I have an angel wing begonia, strawberry begonia, polka dot begonia, and what the nursery called a tri color begonia. There's also an unknown plant from my Auntie (given as a gift) and a leopard lilly that is finally coming back from dormancy. Right: oooh my variegated flowering maple is sending out more blooms! I just bought her lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: Nastutium in her fancy little pink pot! I love nastutium leaves, but I'm excited for her to bloom, too. She's got one teeny tiny flower bud hidden in the center there. Center: ground orchid; these little dudes are very happy here in zone 8. I think she's been blooming since the first warm spell at the end of january. Right: hydrangea... blooms are looking a little worse for wear, and I'm not sure why. It hasn't been too hot yet, so I'm assuming the humidity is hiting all wrong. Still, he's blooming like crazy rn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: oof my bleeding heart looks so dead, but fear not! He'll be back in the summer. I have some petunias in this outrageous cherry pink color hanging (possibly illegally) from my mailbox. And beneath that is the celeb of the porch, my sweet almond bush. She's been making my porch smell like, well, floral sweet almond lol. Center: this is also called a ground orchid, but it's different from the pink one. This lil dude LOVES it here (it's a native species), and has been blooming his lil head off since. Right: okay the sun was in my eyes taking this pic lol. My bouganvillea (sp?) and all its baby little blooms!! I love this rusty color. At the end of september last year, all of its leaves fell off, so I wasn't sure if it was coming back. I didn't realize that was my cue to prune it back; I'll remember to do that this year.
I have more plants (all of my succulents are on the back porch, for instance), but these are my blooming crew right now <3

Shihouin[四楓院] Chika[千日]
Shi[四]: "4"
Hou[楓]: "Maple(tree)"
In[院]: "Temple/House(of governmetn)/Institution"
Chi[千]: "1,000"
Ka[日]: "(The)Sun"/"Day"
Given the naming pattern with Yoruichi and Yuushirou reading "Night 1" and "Night 4 Son", it would follow that Chika's name here reads as "1000 Days" or "1000th Day" A curious notion when the Shihouin crest has a moon on it, which was obviously where the night motif in the later heirs came from. Is Chika a blacksheep of the family for not having a night name? Or did the Shihouin change their motif at some point from day/sun to night/moon?
And very noticeably he's wearing what looks like a chinese style of lamellar belt(it's hard to say when there isn't an accompanying suit of armor to go with it) but it evokes to me a lot of Ming dynasty period pieces(or alternatively very anime-ass Romance of the Three Kingdoms designs) and incidentally Journey To The West was written in the Ming Dynasty, and combined with his complexion and his distinctive Xiangyun[祥云]:"auspicious clouds" scarf (and of course my ongoing crackpot theory about there being an unspoken theme of pre-Japanese Buddhism underlying the foundation of Soul Society) makes me think he's specifically Indian but having travelled East across China(or whatever the Soul Society equivalents are)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuhara[嚴原] Kinroku[金勒]
Izu[嚴]: "Strict/Stern"
Hara[原]: "Plain/Field/Wilderness"
Kin[金]: "Gold"
Roku[勒]: "Bit/Bridle(like a horse's)"
Makes him sound like a wild stallion type who was only tamed by being bribed with wealth and luxury. At first glance I had pegged him for a cold corporate or medical type, but looking at him again he has a certain yakuza look about him too. Less an overt thug and more a grifter, a penny pincher, a coldblooded loan shark type, and this name seems to vibe with that. It's hard to tell but it looks like he has the archetypal yakuza/laborer bellywarmer like Tetsuzaemon did too.
Shijima[志島] Chikiri[知霧]
Shi[志]: "Will/Resolution/Ambition"
Jima[島]: "Island"
Chi[知]: "Wisdom/jnana"
Kiri[霧]: "Mist/Fog/Haze"
Same root word Shi[志] as in the Shiba family and in Okikiba Genshiro's given name. Weird that all three of these are associated with the water; waves/ripples, islands, and distant waters.
The given name is fun because it seems to describe him as wise but in a hazy way, his wisdom is obscured or unclear; whether that means it's unclear to others, or even to him isn't clear. Either one seems to fit his kind of disheveled appearance.
Now that we can see him properly, he kind of reminds me of Wonderweiss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obana[尾花] Danjirou[彈児郎]
O[尾]: "Tail"
Bana[花]: "flower"
Dan[彈]: "Bullet/Pellet/(musket)Ball"
Ji[児]: "newborn baby"
Rou[郎]: "son"
On the one hand the compound [尾花] appears to refer to "(ear of) Japanese pampas grass" which is also known as the Chinese Silver Grass. But it's also part of the compound [鸟尾花] refering to the Crossandra infundibuliformis, the Firecracker Flower. And also [鸢尾花] referring to irises in general. Since, as the 5th division captain, he's not the one with an iris insignia, I'm going to go with the silver grass reference. It does evoke a certain rugged and pastoral landscape that seems to suit the rustic almost hick-ish vibe he has going on.
As for Bullet baby.... I have no idea what to make of it...
Saitou[齊藤] Furofushi[不老不死]
[齊]: "...-Like/as if..."
[藤]: "Wisteria"
[不老]: "No grow old"
[不死]: "No die"
"Wisteria-like" has obvious evocations in her hair color and pigtails. The given name all together is actually a phrase meaning "immortality/perpetual youth." Pretty straight forward.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shigyou[執行] Nobutsuna[乃武綱]
Shigyou[執行]: "execution/enforcment"/"executive/executor"*
No[乃]: "<possessive indicator>"
Bu[武]: "Military/Martial"
Tsuna[綱]: "Cord/Rope"
*can also refer to a "lead monk performing various tasks in a (buddhist)temple" although his overall appearance is anything but monk-like; certainly there are other captains here that would suit that reading better. So, the "rope or military enforcement."
(The random 3rd division guy with the "Winter Whistle" sword was named Taketsuna[武綱])
Katoribatsu[鹿取抜] Unsai[雲齋]
Ka[鹿]: "Deer"
Toribatsu[取抜]: "Drain/Extract"
Un'[雲]: "Cloud"
Sai[齋]: "<indicates a penname>"
Ok, first of all... "Deer Extraction"??? And then her given name is either "Penname: Cloud" or if taken together [雲齋]: "cotten drill" as in the twill weave fabric used for things like khakis?? But that feels like a weird way to go. She is quite bookish looking (i mean... as if she can avoid it in the proximity of Nanao and Risa...) so perhaps she's an author on the side? Hence the penname. But as for the deer collecting... it feels like a weird way to phrase it, but I'm assume it's trying to conjure a disney princess-like scene of her attracting deer to her to show her purity and trustworthiness? Maybe???
Also she has a distinctive, Zhōngguó jié[中國結]: "Chinese knot" ornament at the end of her naginata(?) which wasn't shown in the poster. Although the coloration on this sheet is oddly gold rather than the more typical red. What is probably the most common and recognizable design is the Pán zhǎng jié[盤長結], sometimes called an "endless knot" or "eternal knot" and is used to represent various Buddhist virtues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kumoi[久面井] Entetsu[煙鐵]
Ku[久]: "A long time"
Mo[面]: "Face/Mask/Surface"
I[井]: "Well(water source/hole in the ground)"
En'[煙]: "Smoke"
Tetsu[鐵]: "Iron"
He sounds and looks very much like a jailer/torturer, not unlike some vibes Urahara's backstory gave off. Kumoi's zanpakuou is also a Tiěbiān[鐵鞭], a sectioned iron rod, part of a broader family of weapons/tools all called "iron whips."
Interestingly it's the same type of weapon Sui-feng's bankai, Jakuhou Raikouben[雀蜂雷公鞭], is named after.
Outokawa[王途川] Furuoki[雨緒紀]
Ou[王]: "King"
To[途]: "Road/Way"
Kawa[川]: "River"
Furu[雨]: "Rain"
O[緒]: "Cord/String(of an instrument)"
Ki[紀]: "Era/Period(of time)" or "Rule/(Written)Record"
"King's Way River" is a very pompous sounding family name... Interestingly the name Furuoki uses the kanji [雨] for rain, but is pronounced here like furu[降る] which is the verb for "to fall" referring specifically to rain or snow. The "Era of Rain(fall) String." It might be a stretch but I want to interpret that as the lines of rain falling being equated to the string of an instrument, and by proxy comparing the sound of rain fall as music.
But alternatively it could be another play into Kubo's on-again-off-again rain symbolism. Sometimes it's Ichigo's depression, sometimes it's Uryuu's legacy as the last Quincy, sometimes it's Orihime making confusing statements about joining earth and heaven, in direct contradiction to her Tanabata namesake... Is it "The Rule of Rainfall" as in the downpour comes eventually no matter how you run from it? Or as in, heaven and earth are joined eventually if your just wait? Or as in heavens will be clouded over and separated eventually? Or as in, relief comes eventually and even the worst drought can't last forever?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zenjou[善定] Jiuhin[寺有嬪]
Zen'[善]:"Virtue/Goodness/Good deeds
Jou[定]: "certainty/reality/samadhi"
Ji[寺]: "temple"
U[有]: "bhava/becoming/existence"
Hin'[嬪]: "court lady/virtuous woman/concubine"
So I can't quite tell if Kubo's just leaning into the on'yomi here, or if he's specifically aiming for a Chinese reading. I want to say On'yomi, but it is fairly close to the Chinese reading Shàndìng[善定] Sìyǒupín[寺有嬪] it's just the dìng[定] vs jou[定] throwing a wrench in it. And I'm hung up on Jiuhin's name sounding Chinese because with the mandarin style collared shirt and the fact that he has... for some reason two... queue... it all points to a distinctly Chinese influence in the design.
Arguably the face paint could also be pulled erroneously from the brooder aesthetic of Chinese opera --as in maybe Kubo was going for a Chinese opera inspired look, but what's here definitely isn't accurate to the style-- but it feels very in line with Kubo's own funky sensibilities either way.
Sakahone[逆骨] Saizou[才藏]
Saka[逆]: "Reverse"
Hone[骨]: "Bone"
Sai[才]:"Talent/Ability"
Zou[藏]: "Hidden"
....the idea that this decrepit old man is named "Reverse Bones" as if he's like that because his bones are just "wrong" is for some reason hilarious and horrifying to me. "Hidden Talent" seems self-explanatory given he looks like he should barely be able to move, let alone fight or kill a person.

my words are: join, warm, lack, safe, and sturdy
miracle of miracles, all of these words appear in the second draft of wolf's tooth ! so all of these excerpts are from a wolf's tooth for revenge !
JOIN
Kirby raises their joined hands to his cheek, inhaling deeply, kissing Raleigh’s knuckles. Once they leave this car, they won’t have another moment alone.
Raleigh bends over to knock their skulls together, and Kirby catches him with a kiss.
WARM
Much later, through the fog of sleep, Raleigh hears Kirby say, “I don’t know what to do. I’ve never seen him like that. Like this. How can I help him?” He sounds heartbroken, and the weight of his tone settles over Raleigh in half-consciousness like a blanket when you’re overly warm; it’s an unignorable discomfort. It drives him to wake.
LACK
It’s well after noon when they park the car, having left the R.V. locked up at a campground some miles back, but Raleigh is bleary-eyed from the lack of sleep regardless. The threadbare curtains that hang across the windows in the trailer don’t dim headlights that flash past while they sleep on the roadside, and sounds seem amplified by the hollow space. Every disturbance in the grass is a footstep, every night sound a warning. Of course, he would be the last to know in the event of a true threat; Raleigh should sleep soundly knowing that his companions are uniquely capable of recognizing such a thing. He finds some peace when he buries his head in Kirby’s side or under his arm, but he rests fitfully at best. So, he unbuckles his seatbelt and sags into his seat until the others have opened their doors and he has to do the same.
SAFE
“We know what you like. Stay safe, and call me if there’s trouble.” Raleigh settles into his seat, letting Kirby lean over him again to look Jacqueline in the face. He is no longer smiling. “If there’s even a chance that we could be compromised, I want a phone call, Jack.”
“Aye-aye.”
“Jack,”
STURDY
The sunroom boasts a curving wall of windows, a rampant arch that spans the height of two stories divided into thick panes of glass. A long bar table stands on the sunroom’s farthest side, laden with pothos and budding crossandras. Though wolves fill this room, occupying all of the furniture and some of the floor, plants lay so thick that nobody could hope to sit on this table. Two grand sofas– the oldest and most delicate of all of the furniture in the Pedersen pack house –meet at an obtuse angle before the table, flanked by side tables that are themselves flanked by sturdy Irving armchairs. These are choked with werewolves, as are the couch in the room’s center and the coffee table it pairs with; the third armchair beside the bookshelf and its corresponding desk. The room most prepared to host still sees deputies sitting on the floor.
i don't know what the fuck i meant when i described that window as rampant , btw

Revered for its vibrant blossoms and lush foliage, Kanakambaram is celebrated not only for its ornamental value but also for its cultural significance in various parts of the world, particularly in India.
Botanical Characteristics: Native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia, the Kanakambaram plant is a perennial evergreen shrub that thrives in warm and tropical climates. It features glossy, lance-shaped leaves and produces clusters of tubular flowers that bloom in hues ranging from fiery orange and yellow to deep red. The flowers emerge throughout the year, adding a splash of color to gardens, landscapes, and indoor spaces.
Cultural Significance: In Indian culture, the Kanakambaram holds special significance, particularly in South Indian traditions. It is commonly used in religious ceremonies, festivals, and rituals, symbolizing auspiciousness, prosperity, and devotion. The vibrant blooms of Kanakambaram are often offered to Hindu deities, especially to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, during prayers and rituals seeking blessings for abundance and prosperity.
Moreover, Kanakambaram flowers are also used in traditional Indian weddings and decorations, adorning bridal hairdos, garlands, and ceremonial spaces as a symbol of beauty, happiness, and marital bliss.
