I feel like the will scene has been analyzed to hell and back but have we talked about the implications of "But no one will ever fight for my son as hard as you"? Cause of course he's saying this in general because this is a fact of their lives - the sky is blue the grass is green and Buck would throw himself into a tsunami for Christopher - but it's also in response to Buck asking "He has grandparents, other family...wouldn't they fight for him?" And it really seems like what he's actually asking is "Wouldn't they fight me for him? Wouldn't they try to take him away? Wouldn't I have to fight your family? Your parents?" And Eddie's answer is a blanket request for Buck that should that day come, he fights tooth and nail to keep Christopher with him. It's him saying "I know how they are, and I know they wouldn't accept it, but I need you to be stronger than them because I know that you're the only one who loves Christopher the way he, and I, and you need him to be loved." That's what makes this decision so far beyond making someone a godparent or just an in case of emergency. That's what makes this scene sound like a vow.
