Experience (Dipper, Mabel, Pacifica)
Summary: Pacifica feels out of her element when she watches the twins roughhouse. Lucky for her, Dipper doesn’t mind showing her how it’s done. (Based on a prompt by the lovely @veryblushyswitch!! This could be interpreted as Dipcifica, I do hint to a bit of crushing but the fic could be read as totally platonic too. Hope you enjoy it!)
Pacifica Northwest had not had a normal childhood. Well, that was selling it quite short. She had grown up as a rich, spoiled child who was cared for by nannies rather than her own parents. All of her friends were hand-picked and approved, other children who were trained to smile and look pretty, to obey. And, as the only heir to the Northwest name, she had no siblings to play with, leaving her to use her imagination as she played with expensive, porcelain dolls.
Most of the people in Gravity Falls were terrified of her, or treated her as some sort of celebrity. They were desperate for her approval and attention, but only knew the most basic, textbook facts about her. Yes, it was a privileged and comfortable life, but it was lonely in its own special way.
It wasn’t until Pacifica met Dipper and Mabel Pines that she realized all that she had missed out on. She watched the way that the two of them interacted with one another, or with their great-uncles, or their friends, and a wave of jealousy went through her.
Although their relationship had gotten off to a rocky start, Pacifica quickly grew to view the Pines twins as the friends she had always longed to have. Their chaos, creativity, and genuine kindness were all traits that she had rarely seen in the people her family allowed her to socialize with. It was a very welcome change of pace.
Speaking of chaos, it was rare to be around Dipper and Mabel and not be drawn into the madness of their everyday life if Gravity Falls. When they weren’t getting into trouble with the various creatures around, they were causing trouble around the Mystery Shack.
Pacifica had come over to join the twins for a double-feature of two terrible films for the sole purpose of making fun of said films, and the afternoon had ended with Mabel pinning Dipper to the floor and tickling him until he swore that she could pick the movie next time. Pacifica had sat to the side, watching them with the curiosity of the sheltered child that she was.
She couldn’t even remember the last time someone had tickled her, or if she was even ticklish herself. As she watched Mabel shriek when Dipper’s hands struck a counter-attack on her sides, she couldn’t help but feel left out of the fun. Despite becoming friends, she felt that Dipper and Mabel still had an image of her in their heads, the untouchable and spoiled girl she used to be (and still slipped back into the act on occasion) and therefore, she was left out of the roughhousing. Was it strange that she wanted to experience that?
After Dipper had agreed to Mabel’s terms, he looked flustered beyond belief, and he was winded as though he’d run a marathon. Pacifica would almost dare to say he looked cute. Before she could entertain the thought further, Mabel was grabbing her hand and dragging her upstairs to read the new magazines she’d gotten, complete with boy band posters and makeup tips galore.
She was allowed to spend the night, and Dipper, likely traumatized by all the long nights with Candy and Grenda, had gone to sleep on the couch downstairs for the night.
For such an energetic girl, Mabel was quick to fall asleep, leaving Pacifica alone with her thoughts for just a few minutes, and she tentatively ran her own dainty fingers over her stomach beneath the blanket, and felt no urge to laugh or twitch away. She remembered reading somewhere that it was impossible to tickle yourself, but she figured it was worth a shot. She drifted off to the sound of Mabel’s breathing shortly after.
***
The next morning, Mabel shook her awake with unnecessary urgency, with the excuse that Stan was making pancakes for breakfast, and they needed to stack their plates before Dipper went back for a second helping.
The two girls made their way down the creaky stairs of the Mystery Shack, Mabel humming to herself the whole way. Pacifica was surprised to see how much energy she had in the mornings, but followed without comment.
As they entered the kitchen, Mabel grabbed two plates and began tossing pancakes onto them both while Pacifica took a seat next to Dipper at the table. Stan offered her a toothy grin, and Ford gave her a polite nod over his newspaper. Dipper gave her a little smile before shoveling another forkful of pancake into his mouth. Mabel held most of the conversation at the table, and once they were all finished eating, the twins got to helping their great-uncles with the dishes.
Pacifica wasn’t sure how to be helpful, having never really done her own chores before, but Dipper seemed to notice her hesitation and asked her to help him dry off the plates and hand them over to Mabel. She did so, forming a nice assembly line that got the kitchen clean quickly, letting the kids run back up to the attic to plan their activities for the day.
“Oh, I totally forgot!” Mabel suddenly exclaimed. “I’m supposed to go to Candy’s house today! She wants to show Grenda and I the stuff she made at robotics camp!”
Pacifica really didn’t want to go home yet, but she barely had time to accept that fate before Dipper spoke up.
“That’s alright Mabel, Pacifica and I won’t go on any cool adventures without you,” he promised.
Mabel grinned before running off to the bathroom to get dressed and ready for the day, leaving Pacifica sitting on her bed, feeling Dipper’s eyes on her.
“What are you smiling at?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Dipper flushed. “Oh, sorry, I just…I think this is the first time I’ve seen you without any makeup, or jewelry. You actually look like we’re the same age when you aren’t all dressed up.”
Pacifica had honestly forgotten that she had washed off her signature purple eyeshadow and removed her earrings and bracelet before bed last night, and her own cheeks went a little pink as she realized she had been seen by the whole Pines family with a messy ponytail, and wearing a pair of Mabel’s baggy sleep shorts. “Thanks, I think?” she said.
“Don’t get used to me complimenting you,” he replied, but his grin told her he was joking.
Mabel returned shortly after, telling Pacifica that she could raid her closet for whatever she wanted, before giving her a hug and leaving again, the sound of her calling goodbye to Stan and Ford echoing throughout the house.
“So,” Dipper said. “Since I promised we wouldn’t do anything exciting without Mabel, I don’t really have any good ideas for the day. I wanted to show you something cool, y’know, but I don’t want to do anything too crazy for your first time, but I still want it to—”
“It’s okay,” she assured him. “I don’t need to hunt down some weird creature to have a good time, you know. We can just…I don’t know, watch another movie?”
Dipper’s nervous expression softened at that. “Okay!”
Pacifica took Mabel’s offer to borrow some clothes, taking a pair of denim shorts and a purple sweater which boasted a puppy playing basketball on it, and took the borrowed outfit into the bathroom to change and give Dipper the privacy to do the same.
They met up back in the living room, with Dipper already flipping through a stack of DVDs.
“Now that Mabel isn’t here, I don’t have to sit through a rom-com,” he said cheerfully, but then frowned. “Unless you want to, that is. I picked yesterday, so if you have something else you’d rather watch, we totally can watch that instead.”
The mention of his promise to Mabel only reminded her of the thoughts she’d had the night before. Still, Pacifica chuckled at his rambling. “Pick whatever you want. I liked the ones we watched last night, they were cool.”
Dipper’s face lit up once again, and plucked a DVD out of the pile, popping it into the player before joining her on the couch.
Pacifica had already swallowed her pride so many times recently: Dealing with the significant drop in her family’s wealth was a good example. So, there was really no reason to hold back what she was thinking. Besides, while Mabel was probably her best friend, it felt easier to talk to Dipper, after he’d seen her vulnerable, crying in a closet at a party, or covered in dirt and grime during a battle with a triangle demon. What did she have to be nervous about?
“Sorry I didn’t like, help you when Mabel was bothering you,” she said. “I’ve never really…had a tickle fight before? So I didn’t know if I should try to intervene.”
Dipper, who was still digging for the remote amongst the couch cushions, raised an eyebrow. “It’s okay, I mean, there really is no etiquette to it…But you’ve never had a tickle fight before? Like, ever?”
She shook her head. “I don’t have siblings, and none of my friends were the touchy type.”
“But, it’s…That’s just, like, a rite of passage in life!” Dipper said. “I don’t think I’ve gone a week of my life without Mabel tickling me.”
“Well, you seem really ticklish, so I guess it’s hard to resist,” Pacifica replied, smirking.
Dipper’s cheeks went red, but he narrowed his eyes. “Well, maybe it’s time you experience it, since you want to talk all confidently.”
Pacifica didn’t say anything, just widened her eyes in anticipation as Dipper’s hands reached out and grabbed at her sides, fingers wiggling.
The surprised, genuine laughter that burst from her lips was foreign even to her; she couldn’t remember if she had ever laughed that hard. The sensation was overwhelming, and although her body was screaming for her to escape, she was…having fun.
She brought her knees up to her chest, a poor attempt at defending her torso, and Dipper just gleefully began squeezing her knees, making her squeal. It was surely the most undignified sound to ever leave her lips, and she couldn’t even be bothered to care.
Not quite knowing what she was doing, she reached her hands out and poked her fingers into Dipper’s stomach, and felt proud when he began to giggle too.
While Pacifica was clearly quite ticklish, Dipper was apparently absurdly sensitive, and so his laughter quickly overpowered hers, making her feel mischievous and proud, a grin stretching across her face.
Dipper was quickly backed into the corner of the couch, Pacifica hovering over him and using one hand to scribble at his neck while the other snuck behind his knee, making him cackle. It was actually pretty cute, but that was a thought to analyze another time.
She assumed that she had won the tickle fight, a victory on her first try, but she wasn’t expecting Dipper to suddenly regain enough strength to push her back against the cushions and launch a new attack on her tummy and sides, making her kick her legs and shriek like some creature from Ford’s journals.
“Okay, okay!” she cried. “I can’t—”
Dipper stopped immediately, letting her sit up and catch her breath, arms wrapping around her torso to try and make the phantom sensation of his fingers go away.
When she met his eye, he was smiling, his cheeks flushed and his hat crooked on his head. “So, how was that for your first tickle fight?” he asked.
She couldn’t help but smile too. “It was fun. But, I think it’ll be better next time, when I win.”
Dipper raised his eyebrows. “Oh, is that a challenge?”
“Yup. And I’m not above asking Mabel for pointers,” she replied.
“That’s so not fair!” Dipper said.
Pacifica just giggled.
It had been a weird experience; being tickled was a lot different than she had imagined it, childhood memories of it still foggy, the whole fight-or-flight aspect having slipped her expectations. But regardless, letting loose and laughing like that had been fun. Refreshing, even. It made her feel like Dipper didn’t see her as some expensive, fragile item that would shatter in his hands, and then sue him for the damages.
Before either of them found something else to say, Mabel came bounding through the front door of the house, and peered into the living room. “What did you guys do while I was gone?” she asked in her usual bubbly manner.
Dipper caught Pacifica’s eye and grinned. “Wanna see what it’s like to win 2-against-1?”
Pacifica returned his grin. “Definitely.”
The two of them chased Mabel all the way up to the attic before they caught her, but it wasn’t long before laughter filled the Mystery Shack once again.

Pacifica, Dipper & Mabel are 16 and have been good friends for a good three years. There's nothing wrong with that. But as Stan & Mabel joke around about Dipper & Pacifica being a couple, is it possible that's actually something Pacifica wants? We'll see if that's the case.
Oh, and Ford is dealing with a shapeshifting lion in the lab.

What is something you don't enjoy in dipcifica fics? Or rather, what do you think are common pitfalls in dipcifica fics you've read so far?
My main answer to this would be something I've noted in a lot of Dipcifica fics, even some that I would consider among the objective best, and that is reducing Dipper's character to being 'the awkward, paranoid dork' (which, to be completely clear, he totally is), however there's frequently so much emphasis placed on how much less cool than Pacifica he is, and I think I'm yet to read one where he gets to be anywhere as snarky as I feel like Canon! Dipper would be in a situation where he's in consistent proximity to Pacifica, someone who brings out the snarkiest side of his personality. Admittedly, with much of the animosity behind them, it's perhaps fair, however, Pacifica is nearly constantly characterised as the 'sassy, sarcastic cool one', with Dipper there for contrast (and to adore her, as he should), when in canon, he's probably the most sarcastic character in the show.
Also, as fun as it is, and I will admit that I've done this before, I do get occasionally irked whenever I read a fic where Pacifica, who is pretty much a newbie to the whole paranormal thing, is somehow better at dealing with paranormal threats than Dipper--which while it's fun, and it's a solid way to get some cuteness and utter admiration from Dipper in there, it's not necessarily realistic. And the show itself did enough to downplay just how capable, confident and competent Dipper became throughout the summer, and I don't think fanfic writers need to continue that by just having him play the 'admiring boyfriend' to his awesome girlfriend. This isn't to say that Pacifica can't have her moment of awesomeness (in fact, in my continuity, it's after a pretty cool moment of awesome, in which she basically saved Dipper's life that he actually decided 'oh my gosh i love her'), I just think that she--a spoilt rich girl--should not be consistently upstaging the seasoned paranormal investigator, and when she does, I absolutely adore it if she does it by utilising one of her specific skills or pieces of knowledge (like her minigolf skills, or weaponising her beauty products).
Basically, I just don't love it when Dipper gets reduced to the 'nerdy guy with an awesome girlfriend who's always the cool, talented one'. They deserve equal opportunity to save each other. And fluster each other. And snark at each other in a friendly way.
The other thing that frustrates me in Dipcifica fics is whenever Mabel is sidelined in favour of the ship. It is not what Alex Hirsch would have wanted.
Wow, that was long. I didn't know I had so much to say on the subject, but there you go. I have more beef with popular Dipcifica portrayals than I thought.

Hello there, Gravity Falls fandom on Tumblr!
So welcome to Dipcifica Bingo Month! This isn't intended to replace @dippicaweek, but rather, to carry on the torch of the fandom's beloved ship on tumblr as we approach the anniversary of Northwest Mansion Mystery (16 February).
This is a special ship event that will take place over the course of February. Basically, there will be a bingo card of prompts! All you need to do during the month is to try to fulfill any four prompts in the bingo. It doesn't have to be a line (though it will be a fun added challenge!)
And where's the card, you might ask? Well, here it is!
Tumblr media
Oh wait, it's empty! So if you wish to hop on, feel free to drop suggestions in the ask box! Suggestions are open until 31 December. After that, I shall do a poll for the top sixteen prompts to be filled in. You don't have to be a participant to suggest prompts!
This blog is fairly new, and I'm also open to mod/admin applications to help run the blog.
Any form of content is encouraged: art, fics, graphics, crafts, etc. Don’t forget to ping this blog so I can reblog and people can see and reblog them too!
You can contribute as much or as little as you want for a certain prompt! If you only have enough time or energy to draw a doodle on a sticky note or write a 100-word fic drabble, that’s perfectly fine! If you can’t or don’t plan on participating, Id really appreciate you reblogging this post to spread the word anyway!
Please feel free to drop any questions that aren't covered in this post. I'm fairly new to running a fandom event, so feel free to drop suggestions and so on.
Most importantly, have fun!! Cheers!

Curious, if you were to plan for an overarching Gravity Falls next gen series with your OCs, what will it be about?
Also headcanons of the GF characters after the show?
Ah…well, when I first watched the show I *did* have a whole idea kind of planned out.
It involved some of Stan and Ford sailing and Bill kind of coming back (I actually posted a fic on AO3 that I had originally written for the idea), meanwhile Mabel and Dipper are going to school and Dipper is kind of exploring California for anomalies. I had an OC Reggie who Bill kind of befriended and tried to use to get close to Dipper? I genuinely don’t remember how I had that all work out, but eventually they use the zodiac to defeat Bill. (And Reggie’s dad was awful too) I actually have a Pinterest board for the idea of the AU here 😂)
However, I don’t really have plans to ever actually finish it. It was fun and it can be fun to think of, but I don’t really have it in me for continuing. And I guess some of it might be headcanons for after the show? I do love the idea of Dipper and Mabel finding anomalies in California. And also Stan and Ford maybe kind of having some other dimension adventures while investigating the Arctic/hotspots haha. In terms of even later, I do like the idea of Dipper and Pacifica kind of getting together (especially cause her parents would not approve and that just makes it even more fun lol), and Mabel I just imagine being an artist or fashion designer? Possibly, or she just does that for fun? I don’t really ship her with anyone, so…maybe she just meets a guy at some point when she’s an adult? It’s late and I can’t think of many other things, but…those are a few headcanons 😂
Ocean and Orion were originally part of an AU of Gravity Falls, so they technically weren’t ever really a continuation of canon, only the AU. Technically they could be I suppose, since they were originally dipcifica kids, but they were always connected to the AU in my mind. And now I’m tweaking their story to make it a fully original story (including making their parents OCs and all that jazz) ✨

Commissioned an art piece from Turquoise to illustrate my next-gen dipcifica family at Pioneer's Day! She did an impressive job!
Tumblr media
Link to my next-generation series:
Is this Victorian Era AU? Or did the Pines get trapped in time? Or... are they just celebrating Pioneer's Day?
For a long time, I have hoped to commission a piece from @turquoisespace35, who is one of the most talented artists in the Gravity Falls fandom and pioneered the next-generation concept. Her style is pretty unique, and I'm curious to see her take on the dipcifica family of my next-generation fic series. The triplets are my original characters Nita, Nilam and Taka, named after the stars of the Orion Belt. I like how she drew Nilam (the waving girl on the far right). Really captures her adorableness. She's a sweet girl in my stories.
Turquoise is an excellent artist to work with and very professional. She often kept me updated on the sketches and progress of the work, while ensuring that my expectations were met. This work best captures my vision and reflects her talents. I'm glad she agreed to take up this request of mine, and I hope we might work together on future projects.
For those who wish to commission an art piece, I do recommend her (if she's still open to commissions). She did a splendid job. Here's the link to her commission sheet:
Also, feel free to drop any questions about my next-generation series, especially about the children and so on. Please feel free check out some of these works and hit the kudos button and/or comment! Any comments and constructive criticism help keep me going forward. Reblog too to help promote this series!
Stay weird, and have fun!

Favourite ship and least favourite ship?
Gravity Falls wise…
My favorite, unfortunately, would be Billdip.
I love both redemption fics and and psychological horror fics. The fact that one ship can do both either at the same time or go completely dif routes I think it pretty interesting/fun. I’m a freakin sucker for demon gone human shiz, then trying to cope (Some Devil’s a part-timer mood). And then enemies to lover’s is *Le chef’s kiss*
Least fav (besides the other rancid ships you can find in this fandom, like seriously wtf) is Dipcifica.
It’s not even because of billdip, I just, idk I always see them as close friends that shit on each other. Though, I’m grown enough to admit that they do have their cannon moments, I’m just not a fan. Also like Mabel and Pacifica! Those girls are perfect. If you’re gonna have a redemption arc (which is gonna have to happen anyway because it’s Pacifica and she’s also horrible) with her and a twin it should be Mabes! They shared a backseat, post-golf battle burrito! Like how you gonna do my girl like that 😭 Is it that I’m incapable of shipping straights?! Maybe?!
But if we’re talking about my fav ship of all time…
It’s Bubbline!
I know its Cannon so some people don’t count it as a ship but like, I grew up with them, even more so then Gravity Falls. I think young-ass me even knew there was something fruity afoot. This was like, before they came out and said it too, only subtle hints. So I kinda shipped them as a little kid (even though shipping wasn’t a popular term and I didn’t really know about gay people, weird right?). It was nice to grow up with them see the changes that allowed their story to finally be cannon.
But confession, even though I write a fanfic and do a lot of ship fanart. Im like… not a huge shipper? I mean, I am, but also like, I usually just do art for Gravity Falls, same with reading fics. I used to read Klance fics with my friend back in highschool, but Klance and Billdip are the extent of my fic library. I guess I’m just goofy like that.
Also fuck Voltron, that show could have been so great. It was good in some aspects but like… looking back on it I’m soooooo bitter 😂 but I can’t get into that.
EDIT: I also meant to say, though I don’t ship it, I appreciate Billford. I’m more of a Ford x McGucket fan myself, but Ford and Bill were fruity with each other and that’s a rock fact you can take to the bank! I don’t ship Billford, because (unless changing the outcome of the entire show) we know how that story ends, so there’s not a lot of room for fluff. When it comes to Bill and ships, I like future redemption ones the best, so therefore we have Dipper instead of Ford.

I was bored and curious, so I wound up looking up what the top ten most popular romantic relationships for Gravity Falls are on AO3. The results were actually surprising enough that I decided to make a couple graphs. The first one, the y-axis range was just what Excel recommended. For the second graph, I had the maximum value on the y-axis be the total number of Gravity Falls fics, just for shiggles.
I expected BillDip to be the top, and knew from perusing the Gravity Falls tag on AO3 before that it would be the top by a large margin. I wasn't thinking it would beat out the second most popular by a 4:1 margin, but maybe I should have.
I was surprised to see Mabifica as number two; I would have thought Dipcifica beat it, but Dipcifica is number four. I was also surprised to see WenDip so low. I was around when the first season of Gravity Falls was airing, and WenDip was overwhelmingly the most popular ship I saw then. But maybe the sharp turn the show takes way from WenDip in the second season was enough to stifle all but the most vocal of WenDip fans.
I didn't include crossover ships, aka of a Gravity Falls character and a character outside of Gravity Falls. If I did, #10 would actually be Dipper/Wirt from Over the Garden Wall (338 fics), not Stan/Reader.
The biggest surprise to me, though, was that Fiddlestan didn't crack the top ten. In fact, Fiddlestan was #13 if you excluded crossover ships; MaBill (257 fics) and Bill/Reader (198 fics) took #11 and #12. It was #16 if you included crossover ships; Dipper/Wirt, Stanchez (Stan/Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty; 303 fics), MaBill, Bill/Reader, and Dipper/Norman from Paranorman (176 fics) all beat out Fiddlestan's measly 163 fics.
But I guess that it's a sign of what corner of the fandom I interact with most, that a ship I see just about every day has fewer fics than a ship I've literally never seen before, aka Dipper/Norman.
Btw I'm not here provide my own opinions of certain ships, I'm just sharing the data without comment. I do have opinions on every single ship I've mentioned in this post, but this is not the place for my opinions.
Oh, and the exact numbers for the number of fics for each ship in the graphs are in the images' alt IDs.

What are some dipcifica fics you often find yourself re-reading? And what also inspired you to write fanfics for Gravity Falls?
This is a good question for right now, because I just finished a full reread of Return To The Falls, which is probably the best Dipcifica series out there, in my opinion. I don’t reread fanfics a lot, however I probably have reread most of your writing at least twice, usually to remember details about your continuity or to see how you executed certain concepts.
The fanfic that really got me into the Gravity Falls fanfiction community would be the ‘Second Summer’ series by Milky Boy Blue, which imo is the other best Gravity Falls fanfic series other than RTTF (although they’re very different and I like them for different reasons). In terms of what inspired me to write fanfic…I’m a writer, and when I like something, I like to write about it.

Here are the prompts for the dipcifica bingo 2024!
Tumblr media
Sorry for the delayed response, but with university starting and everything, I haven't had time to invest fully into this. Also, there was a glitch so I did not see some of the submissions until recently.
So these prompts are based from what were submitted in the asks. I apologize for not running a poll, but given the lack of time, I decided to head straight into announcing the themes for this year.
For this event, try to fulfill any four prompts in the bingo card above. Each work can only fulfil one of the prompts. It doesn't have to be a line (though it will be a fun added challenge!)
The list of prompts are:
Party
Gaming session
Meet the parents
Letter/Postcard
Beach
Stargazing
Ghost
Hot chocolate
Reflection
Camera
Journal
Mystery
"I miss you"
Costumes
Rescue
Hugs
Any form of content is encouraged: art, fics, graphics, crafts, etc. Don’t forget to ping this blog so I can reblog and people can see and reblog them too!
You can contribute as much or as little as you want for a certain prompt! If you only have enough time or energy to draw a doodle on a sticky note or write a 100-word fic drabble, that’s perfectly fine! If you can’t or don’t plan on participating, I’d really appreciate you reblogging this post to spread the word anyway!
Please feel free to drop any questions that aren't covered in this post. I'm fairly new to running a fandom event, so feel free to drop suggestions and so on.
Once again, have fun!

Who is your token cis, straight, (optional: white) male?
I'd say the closest one I have that fits that description is my DannyxSam kid Felix Fenton from my Danny Phantom Next Gen fic series Phantom Legacy.
Honorable mention to my currently unnamed Dipcifica son, who I never got around to developing. Also, I'm honestly doubtful that I'm going to actually make him straight. Lol 😂
