The European variants of the American idioms seem to be sadder than the prototypes they copy with their own translation as we can hear. Yes, this does get neglected, when we discuss the European versions of the American styles. Thus, I am reminded of something John Law said to me about us, Europeans, always over-intellectualizing stuff. He does have a point and the case of Eurodance proves that as we even put a tinge of melancholy into something so cheery as the tune on the link by Alice Deejay. To be honest, this might be one of the tenets of Eurodance, i.e. the brand is about mono no aware told through the beats of the 90's electronic music. Relisten to the song I posted – isn't the entire piece about seizing the day?

Dash Berlin potentially loses rights to use the name Dash Berlin
A new post has been published on EDM Life at http://edmlife.com/dash-berlin-potentially-loses-rights-to-use-the-name-dash-berlin/
Unknown to many clubbers, Dash Berlin is in actually a group made up of 3 members: Jeffery Sutorius is the ‘frontman’ of the group and the only one who tours for live dj performances. Quite understandably, it its not widely know that the ‘group’s tunes are actually written in part by Sebastiaan Molijn and Eelke Kalberg who make up the 2 remaining members of Dash Berlin.
According to a statement posted below by Sutorius, he has not been happy with his management recently (stated as mismanagement and neglect per the statement below) and one can infer he was been looking into leaving to go solo. As a proactive measure, the two remaining group members as well as Berlin’s management team trademarked the name Dash Berlin to apparently be able to keep the name for their own use and not to allow Sutorius to go out on tour using the Dash Berlin name. One can infer that each side was basically attempting to protect their interests.
Sutorius publicly provided the statement regarding the issue:
“Through this statement I inform you that at the end of May I severed my ties with Vanderkleij Agency, Sebastiaan Molijn and Eelke Kalberg (booker and management of Dash Berlin). The reason for ending the relationship is mismanagement in the past several years and neglecting my interests. I recently found out that Molijn and Kalberg together with Vanderkleij Agency registered the name ‘Dash Berlin’ in their own name. I did not realize that as such it might not be possible for me to perform under my Dash Berlin name. I requested my lawyers to put this matter before the court, so that this matter can be resolved. All this has had a negative influence on my health, and I was advised to take it easy. I would have preferred to announce this through my own social media channels. However, after ending the relationship my access to the social media accounts was blocked. I hope that all this can be settled quickly and that I can continue to perform. I love my fans and I hope they will understand.”
It is unknow how this may play out.  Fans of Dash Berlin associate the identity of the group as Sutorius hence if a new individual were to tour as Dash Berlin it would be somewhat awkward. On the other hand if this dispute is not resolved, one can see Sutorius touring as TAFKADB aka The Artist Formerly Known as Dash Berlin.

Sometimes you don’t choose song of the day, it chooses you. This popped into my head earlier tonight and refuses to leave like a reveller at a rave on E.

San Holo Shares Melancholy, Acoustic Cover Of Alice Deejay’s Classic, “Better Off Alone”
San Holo Shares Melancholy, Acoustic Cover Of Alice Deejay’s Classic, “Better Off Alone”
We seriously need more San Holo acoustic covers of EDM classics. Actually, I am discussing quite a lengthy period in my posts about the modern trance/techno/electronic music from Europe, though you need to know that these types of tones became successful during the 90's, so we must also look at the cases, such as Alice Deejay. The latter in particular could be seen as one of the outfits, which made these styles commercially feasible. I know, this might seem like a stretch, but the singles by the group presented a pop version of what the dancefloor had then. Many, of course, followed their lead, yet their own pieces still pack the same power as before. Their greatest hit, for instance, combines an insistent backing with an incredible cryptic vocals. You're not sure – is the lyrical subject upset or content about the situation in the composition?

The song was recorded and released as an instrumental in 1997, co-produced by Sebastiaan Moljin and Eelke Kalberg, who would later produce as Dash Berlin. The song eventually came to include vocals by Judith Pronk, who made the song what we know it as today, and was released on Alice’s debut album, Who Needs Guitars Anyway? in 2000.
San Holo’s beautifully layered vocals and somber guitar transform the song from an electronic/trance, dancefloor classic into a melancholy, sonderous ballad.
As I said before, we need more of these, or at least a full version of this cover. As I’ve been writing this, the song has been playing on repeat in the background and it’s simply wonderful. Listen below.

Dash Berlin – Disarm Yourself
Call 1-855-637-4055 for our Psychic line as low as 66¢/min lyrics: Don’t you miss yourself And all you used to chain It always ends And you keep on running backwards Keep on chasing your own demons So don’t waste another hour And let me in… Disarm yourself Release the fear Disarm yourself And hold me near Disarm yourself Release the fear Disarm yourself And hold me near And now… Give yourself to me Ooh… Disarm yourself Release the fear Disarm yourself And hold me near And now… Don’t you miss yourself And all you used to chain It always ends Look to other people turning While you’re hiding in the shadow So don’t run away in silence Let me in… Disarm yourself Release the fear Disarm yourself And hold me near Disarm yourself Release the fear Disarm yourself And hold me near And now… Give yourself to me Ooh… Disarm yourself Release the fear Disarm yourself And hold me near And now… About Dash Berlin: Dash Berlin is a Dutch trance music project created in 2007 by Jeffrey Sutorius, Eelke Kalberg, and Sebastiaan Molijn. As of late, Dash Berlin‘s releases have been leaning more towards electro house and trouse rather than trance, a phenomenon also seen with Dutch producer Ferry Corsten. This is widely believed to have been influenced by legendary producer Tiësto, who himself transitioned from trance to electro house. The front man of the group is the DJ Jeffrey Sutorius a.k.a Dash Berlin, the 10th most popular DJ in the world according to DJ Mag in 2013. Sutorius initially started playing drums influenced by his late father who was a drummer in a jazz band, before discovering electronic music. He worked at BPM Records and Mid-Town Records specializing in vinyl, with both stores becoming meeting places for many established Dutch DJ’s. Molijn and Kalberg, who were deejaying as Pronti & Kalmani at the time, have credited Sutorius as a vital source of inspiration for some of their biggest records during that time. Kalberg and Molijn have been contributing to the international dance scene for over ten years, with award-winning and platinum-selling hits for dance acts such as Alice Deejay, Vengaboys, Candee Jay, Pronti & Kalmani, and Solid Sessions. Their track “Better Off Alone” was one of the first EDM/Trance records that became big in the United States and was later sampled by French superstar DJ David Guetta and one of America’s biggest rappers Wiz Khalifa in his breakthrough record “Say Yeah”. They also have been working together with DJ Sander Kleinenberg on classic tracks like “This Is Miami” and “The Fruit” and remixes for major artists such as Justin Timberlake (‘Rock Your Body’ Remix winning the award for ‘Best Remix’ at the Dance Star USA Awards), Janet Jackson, BT, Usher, N.E.R.D., Lenny Kravitz, Junkie XL, Röyksopp, Mylo, and Annie Lennox. Dash Berlin was formed when Jeffrey Sutorius (born in November 1979 in The Hague, The Netherlands) and his close friends, Kalberg and Molijn teamed up in 2006. Jeffrey Sutorius was a fan of electronic music from his high school days and in his late teens worked in a record store and became a collector of vinyl trance music. Inspired by pioneering figures such as Sven Vath, Oliver Lieb and Sander Kleinenberg, Sutorius began mixing and producing his own music. He released his first record on ‘BPM Legends’ records. He started performing in the Dutch underground music scene in early ’95 and teamed up with fellow producers and close friends Kalberg and Molijn to form Dash Berlin in 2006. Dash Berlin Frontman, To Perform Under His Own Name
Frontman Jeffrey Sutorius, of the popular trance formation Dash Berlin, will resume performing under his own name starting October. Sutorius made this decision because he misses his fans and wants to stay connected with them as he works through legal proceedings concerning the usage rights of the stage name Dash Berlin. “The fans and promoters have supported me enormously throughout the years. In the past few months, I have received many heartwarming words of support and encouragement. I’m really looking forward to performing again and making new memories, ” said Sutorius. A number of promoters and booking agencies have already expressed interest in continuing to collaborate with Jeffrey Sutorius under his own name. The popular trance formation Dash Berlin started in 2007. Sutorius parted with Eelke Kalberg, Sebastiaan Molijn and Erick van der Kleij in June 2018 due to mismanagement. Since the news broke, he has taken some time to recuperate and plan for the future. Sutorius is currently working on new music. “Music is my life and various events in the past year have inspired me to come up with new ideas. I can’t wait to share new music with my fans!” Stay tuned for the release date for Jeffrey Sutorius’ new music.
