MONIKA

╰┈➤ Monika falls asleep leaning on your shoulder, but unfortunately wakes up to Sayori's squeal while watching a horror movie

・┆✦ʚ♡ɞ✦ ┆・

You felt something weigh on your shoulder and brush against your cheek lightly. You looked away from the TV screen and saw Monika leaning on you, her eyes shut closed and her mouth slightly agape in a peaceful state. It was quite rare to see her this calm, her being the president and dealing with quite an amount of work. Her bow holding her brown hair in place, but slightly messy.You glanced at the others, Natsuki bringing popcorn to her mouth from the bowl on Yuri's lap every moment she was finished chewing the last one. Yuri's eyes were quite wide in interest as the killing scene came on, looking glued to the TV. Sayori had a pillow tucked under her chin and clutched it to her chest, a seemingly exaggerated reaction coming from her. You then brought your gaze back to Monika. You brushed the stray strands of hair tickling her face away and looked back to the TV, and a haunting tone played. Sayori huddled closer to her pillow, so scared you could practically hear her shallow breaths, the two seemingly unfazed as the tone crescended louder, and eventually ended with a jumpscare. Sayori screamed, jumping up in the couch, swinging her pillow away and hitting the popcorn bowl, sending it flying in the air as Natsuki yelped along with her. Monika jolted awake when you sat up in panic as you watched the scene unfold. It all happened so quickly, the popcorn bowl laying abandoned on the floor with its contents spilling out. Sayori blinked, then laughed nervously. "Uhm..." "You're such a clutz!" Natsuki yelled, huffing out in frustration. "Now we have to clean this up!" Yuri was quiet the whole time, unsure how to react, just sending glances at you awkwardly. "I-I'm sorry! I'll clean this up now!" Sayori apologized, rushing on her knees to pick up the food. Monika glanced at them and sighed, then at you. You could only smile at her exasperated reaction, making her share the same expression quickly. "Was the movie good?" she asked, her bright, emerald eyes seeming like the were lighting up the dark room. "We weren't able to finish it..." "Shame." You heard Natsuki yelling once again at Sayori, and Yuri had stood up to pull Natsuki away. "I need to use the restroom," Monika sighed, then got up from the couch, your shoulder left with a warm feeling where her head rested.

SAYORI

╰┈➤ Sayori tears up at a hug while you help her clean up the mess

When Yuri had pulled Natsuki away, Monika in the restroom, you got up and began to help Sayori. She looked up at you with a surprised expression, turning into a grateful one. You noticed tears forming in her eyes and quickly stammered to act. "Hey! D-dont cry! It's not your fault..." She wiped them away with her wrist, her fingers dusted with salt from the popcorn. "I-... I just got super scared and..." "That's alright. That jumpscare scared me too, honestly." She let out a hiccup, and you pulled her in a hug, to which she began to cry even more. It was quite awkward if you were being honest, but at least she felt better, clutching onto you while her tears stained your shirt.

NATSUKI

╰┈➤ You tell her the impact she had made on Sayori, saying she needed to apologize. It seems she was doing just that, baking cupcakes for her, and you get to get a first try

When you two had cleaned the floor up, you went to the kitchen to wash your hands and found Natsuki there, carefully squeezing pink frosting on fresh cupcakes, concentration on her face. She jumped in surprise when she heard the faucet turn, water running down. "Did you just try to sneak up on me?" she huffed, wiping her hands on her apron. "What?" you said, taking a soap bar in your palms. "I just came here to wash my hands." You suddenly recalled Sayori crying as you took her in a hug. "Hey, Natsuki." you said. "Sayori got really upset when you yelled at her." "It's her fault she's such a clutz." she muttered. "...I think you should apologize." "Can't you see I'm trying to do just that?" she said in a frustrated tone, finally turning to look at you, irritated. She understood by the huge question mark on your face, that you didn't seem to quite get what she meant. "I'm trying to make cupcakes for her." her voice pitched down lower, softer and less harsh. "Oh," you wiped your hands on the cloth hanging from the fridge door, and was quite surprised when she took a cupcake and plopped it down in your hands. "Here, try one." she said. You took a bite, the taste of strawberry touching your taste buds, and eventually leading you to finishing the whole thing in no time. "You ate the whole thing already!?" she said, surprised, then she leaned on the counter with one hand on her hip. "So, how was it? did it taste good?" With your mouth full, you could only nod with a smile and say with a muffled voice: "Yewsh." Eventually, she brought the tray to the living room, where the three others sat, trying to find another movie. "Wow, these look great, Natsuki!" Monika said, eagerly biting, her palm under her other hand to catch the crumbs. Sayori looked overjoyed as she thanked Natsuki, licking at the frosting like a child who had just gotten their ice cream. Yuri smiled gratefully, "I'm sure these taste heavenly," she complimented, later confirming it when she had tasted it. The tray was empty in just a few moments, Natsuki proudly clearing the place up. Putting a movie that Sayori seemed to like much better, the lights were once again off, appetite satisfied, everyone was huddled on the couch again.

YURI

╰┈➤ Yuri's bored look gives off that she isn't enjoying the movie...

But you noticed Yuri looked... unhappy? her chin resting in her palm, her eyes not as wide as when she was watching the horror movie, her full interest not on the movie. You scooted next to her and whispered, "Hey, what's up?" She glanced at you and quickly fixed her posture, red creeping on her face. "Oh! Y/n..." "You seem bored." "Ah," she fiddled with her hands. "It's just that... I was very invested in the horror movie we were watching earlier... I really wanted to finish it, perhaps when I get home." "Ah, I see now." She laughed awkwardly and offered, "Would you like to watch the movie with me later?" "Of course!" she was surprised you had said it with no hesitation whatsoever, but was pleased. She nodded vigorously. "Alright then...!"

"Hey guys, I'm back. Now, ya may be wondering where the hell I am? I'm at my literature club! They're helping me with my reading and writing skills since I never got a chance to learn those in school..."

*Pico points the camera to a strawberry blonde girl with emerald eyes sitting at the front of the classroom as Pico waves to her*

"Monika! These are my blog friends! I want you to meet them! "

"A blog? How wonderful! But Pico, you know about no cameras in the classroom..."

"I know. But it'll be quick, I promise!"

"Alright... But next time ask me before you point a camera in my face."

*Pico apologizes and walks over to a pink haired girl who's shorter in stature leaning next to a girl with dark purple hair as they're both reading a book together*

"Hey Natsuki! Yuri!"

"Ah! Pico! You scared the living crap out of me!"

"Ah! P-Pico!"

"Whoops, sorry girls. I forget how focused you two get when reading. I'll let you guys get back to your books now."

*Pico spots another strawberry blonde girl with bright blue eyes as he walks over to find her writing a poem*

"Hey Sayori!"

"Oh, hey Pico! How are you?"

"I'm doing great! How about you?"

"I'm still struggling with my depression... But I'm hanging in there..."

"Sayori... I do hope you mean hanging in there like you're holding on... Not hanging in there like..."

Splashing through blue water, she smiles enthusiastically and lifts a hand up as though to shake the hand of a thin, enormous, stretched-out version of herself standing above jer, who has haunted scribbled eyes and larger-than-life hair clouding behind her. Water pours out unceasingly in a gush behind the real Monika. End I.D. 1]

[I.D. 2: Monika and Sayori, embracing each other tightly, sink into deep blue water. Sayori's bow floats off her head, and she looks up through the bubbles swarming about them in breathless awe, kicking her feet. Monika looks up at Sayori with a fond smile. Both of them have luminous eyes, signifying they've become self-aware. End I.D. 2]

[I.D. 3: Natsuki, the uncannily tall Monika, and Yuri on a simplified, cartoonish scribbled sailboat in the midst of an empty sea. The sky is cheery bright blue with an occasional cloud or bird, the sea is dark greens and blues and bubbles acidically, and the boat is emerald green. Natsuki is in the crows' nest, glaring and yelling in a spiky pink speech bubble down at Monika, who looks her in the eye and is smiling uncomfortably (as though anxious) while talking. Yuri is lying curled up and barely visible on the deck, saying speech bubbles that are as emerald green as Monika's are. End I.D. 3]

I'm thinking a future Nuzlocke (based on poll results)...

Monika, Sayori, Natsuki, and Yuri do a randomizer Nuzlocke together. Game is Pokemon Leafgreen (because Monika loves the color green, and, well, Rock is already doing a romp through Hoenn, so Emerald is out for now).

To account for this and make sure they all have individual teams, the first 4 pokemon encountered would be allowed to be caught per route. (1 for each Doki.)

If anyone wants to see this, gimme a hell yeah!

Chapter 3

You took a deep breath, and with shaking knees, you slowly walked towards the open clubroom doors.

You froze at the sight of the male version of Yuri, and Natsuki.

Yuri still has his dark purple hair, and light purple eyes. His aura, just like the original girl version, expresses maturity and sophistication.

Natsuki still possess his straight pastel pink hair, and pink eyes. His bangs are swept to the right, having two prominent strands of hair beside them. Suprisingly enough, he still retained the accessory the girl version has, that consist of a red Japanese-style crossed hairclip, as well as a red ribbon tying one small ponytail on the upper half of his head at the back— the rest of his hair left down. And his height, he's actually taller than you but still the smallest one on the boys.

You continued to examine the two of them, your cheeks heating up.

They. Are. So. Hot.

"Welcome to the Literature Club. It's a pleasure meeting you," male Yuri suddenly spoke up, bringing you to reality. His voice was deep, and soothing. "Satori always says nice things about you," he added.

The pink-haired guy then said. "Seriously? You brought a girl?" he rolled his eyes. "Way to kill the atmosphere."

As much as you wanted to be offended by his statement, you were too distracted by his cute voice.

You opened your mouth to speak out but then frozed when your realized one thing. "Where's Monika?" You whispered, not realizing the your childhood friend next to you heard your statement.

"Who's Monika?" Satori's jovial voice next to you made you jump in surprise. Then his eyes lightened in realization. "Oh! Do you mean Moniko? I don't know where he went."

"O-oh," you muttered and looked down, your cheeks tinted red in embarrassment.

"Wait. How did you know that he's part of this club? I never mentioned it to you." His eyes widened, a teasing grin forming on his lips. "Do you by any chance like him? Is that why you quickly joined the club?"

You quickly looked up at him with a wide and panicked look. "N-no! I don't even know him!"

You felt a hot breath in your right ear and a unfamiliar smooth and confident voice. "Really? We're classmates last year, aren't we, Y/N?"

In surprise, you jumped to the side, accidentally knocking Satori to the ground.

Your eyes widened in panic. "Oh no! I'm so sorry, Satori!" You offered him a hand.

"All is good, Y/n!" He laughed and scratched the back of his head before taking your hand.

"I'm so sorry about that, Satori. I didn't know that she'll act that way. Ahahaha," he laughed and turned to you.

You can't help but froze at the sight of the male version of Monika in front of you. He's gorgeous. Just like the female version, he has coral brown hair, the white ribbon now missing, and his emerald green eyes made you feel that you can stare at it all day long... Ironically speaking, you actually did that at act 3 of the game, and at Monika After Story.

"I apologize for surprising you, Y/N. It really is nice to see you again." He gave you a warm smile.

"I- uh- um-" You panicked inside. Damn it! Why can't you form a coherent sentence?

"What are you looking at? If you want to say something, say it." Natsuki—or atleast what you thought is his name—spoke up.

"I-I'm sorry," you looked down, feeling dejected already. You promised yourself that you would help them, then why are you acting like some weak protagonist of an otome game? You need to keep in mind that the game's main genre was never romance, but horror.

"Naruki..." You heard the male Yuri stated.

"Hmph," Naruki—finally! You know his name—crossed his arms and turned his head to the side. You mentally rolled your eyes.

Typical tsundere.

But at least he's cute.

"You can just ignore him when he's–" you cut Satori off.

"He's the typical tsundere, isn't he?" You whispered back, not knowing how Moniko heard you, and now turned to you with wide eyes.

Satori held back his laugh. "Y-yeah." He then turned back to his club mates. "Anyway! This is Naruki, always full of energy. And this is Yuki, the smartest in the club!"

You smiled and waved at them, then you turned your head to Moniko who was already staring at you with a look in his eyes that you can't discern. It bothered you, knowing that Moniko has full control of the game.

Your confidence came back at the thought of breaking out of this game. With them. You can't act like a fool right now. You need to earn their trust.

"Hey, everyone! I'm Y/n, and it's a pleasure to meet all of you! Thank you for accepting me as a part of your club already," you smiled. Now here comes the part of your strategy that you'll surely manage to get one of the to be friends.

"When it comes to literature, I'm really a wide reader, by that I mean, I read Manhwa, and Mangas..." You saw Naruki's eyes light up—Bingo!—while Yuki frowned a bit. "When it comes to books, I'm a fan of any genres, such as fantasy, mystery, and even horror." This time, Yuki is the one who's eyes lightened up with an expectant look, the frown disappearing from his face.

Your smile grew wider at their reaction. "You really do love literature, don't you?" You turned to Moniko who just spoke up.

You nodded, not lying about what you said earlier. "I also write stories in my spare time, though I'm not good with poems, since I find it hard to understand them." You let out a nervous laugh.

Moniko patted your head and you looked up at him in surprise. "That's fine, you can learn here in the literature club."

"I'm excited for it."

You don't want to follow the script but you'll make an exception just this one for this line.

This club... is full of incredibly hot guys!!

Wait. Script...

Your mind flashed the conversation you had with them... Moniko's appearance...

Did he just deviated from the script in act 1?

Monika x Fem!reader

summary: fluffy fic of Monika and the reader on the reader's birthday.

word count: 2.4k

As far as birthdays go, this one wasn't really anything too special. Well, maybe you're being a little too cynical. After all, last year you hadn't really gotten to spend your birthday with any friends- you'd been preoccupied with getting home to watch the newest season of your favorite anime.

This year, however, Sayori had managed to get you into the Literature Club, and it had, not to be dramatic, changed your life. For better or worse, that was yet to be seen.

"Y/N, is everything okay?" Sayori asks expectantly, bright blue eyes examining you with bewilderment.

You focus back on the present, giving your friend a reassuring smile. "Yeah, sorry! Everything's great." And you aren't lying; today for the club meeting, Natsuki had brought cupcakes for everyone to share, Sayori had actually not realized what day it was and so gave you a 'birthday hug,' Yuri had given you a copy of one of her favorite horror novels as a gift, even signed by the author, and yet...

You can't help but give a very small sigh. "I just kind of miss Monika, I guess."

Sayori, Natsuki, and Yuri all exchange glances in their respective chairs at one of the club tables. They then all focus on you with varying expressions: Sayori with mischief, Natsuki with exasperation, and Yuri with knowing amusement.

"What? Don't look at me like that!" You squeak defensively, feeling your face begin to heat up at what they were implying. "I only meant that it's- it's weird being at a meeting without our club president! T-That's all." Not that this could be called a meeting per se- more like a celebration between friends.

Sayori giggles at your reaction, and you hear Yuri whisper to Natsuki, "The lady doth protest too much," which elicits a snort of laughter from the pink-haired tsundere.

You groan, standing up abruptly from your seat and smoothing down your school uniform a bit, self-conscious all of a sudden. As your embarrassment dies down though, you feel a wave of affection for your fellow club members. As much as they tend to tease you about your little crush on Monika, they had made your birthday really special this year, and you were grateful. "Anyway, thank you guys again for everything! I had a lot of fun," you say earnestly, deciding it was probably time to wrap up and head home.

Sayori bounces up to join you, and you bid your farewells to Natsuki and Yuri, gathering up your things and heading out of the classroom.

Sayori glances back to make sure that Natsuki and Yuri are in fact walking away, and then she reaches out to stop you. "Uhm, Y/N...?"

You pause to look at her expectantly, unsure of why she's much less energetic now than she was a few minutes ago. "Yes?"

"I-I was actually supposed to tell you something," your best friend begins, uncharacteristically quiet. You wonder briefly why she hadn't mentioned this before... maybe she had been debating on whether or not she actually wanted to tell you whatever it is, considering how the words are practically being dragged from her at this point. "Ah, well, Monika asked me to, that is. The reason she couldn't come to the Literature Club today was because she was stuck at a meeting with the student council, but..." Sayori exhales in what could be a sigh. "She did still wanna see you for your birthday, so she hoped you could stop by there and wait for her."

You stand there in the mostly empty hall of the school, puzzled at why this news would bring such a reaction from your friend- especially when it makes you feel so fluttery inside. "Oh!" You try not to let it show, but you're fairly certain you're lighting up like a Christmas tree. "I see. Thank you for telling me, Sayori!"

As you turn to leave, you feel Sayori reach out to touch your shoulder, but she retracts her hand quickly. When you look back at her, she's her old self, giving you a big smile. "Yeah, I guess you're gonna go see her, huh? Well, I'll catch you later, Y/N!"

Before you can respond, Sayori dashes off, forgetting to wish you a happy birthday.

Well, that was weird. Then again, Sayori's been pretty off lately whenever you and Monika are involved.

The thought of the brunette is enough to make you forget all about whatever might be troubling your best friend, and you make your way through the school to the student council room with a giddy spring in your step. They must not be out yet since the halls are pretty deserted still.

You risk taking a peek through the little glass window on the door, and your hunch is confirmed. Students belonging to the council are all sitting in a circle of chairs, discussing... well, school-related business stuff. You aren't really sure what they do, exactly.

You catch sight of Monika at the head of them, naturally because she is the president, but you aren't expecting to see her with such an expression.

Usually, Monika seems to you warm, open, patient, and friendly... but here, she looks... not even bored, but more like she's utterly apathetic towards all the conversations going on around her. You've never seen her so uncaring, to the point where she seems almost irritated by the presence of everyone in the room with her.

Maybe she's having a bad day? The thought makes you a bit sad, and you find yourself wondering if she would even want to see you. Do the others in the council even realize she's so unlike herself?

As if to answer your silent question, one of the other students turns to Monika to say something, and when they do, the familiar expression you're used to your club president wearing slips back with ease onto her face. She listens attentively to whatever it is she's being told, and then she smiles and nods, commenting something you can't hear in return.

You watch the exchange, too fascinated to stop watching even if you do worry someone might notice you peeking inside for such a long minute. As soon as the student turns away from her, Monika is once again the picture of discontentment; you even notice her tapping her nails listlessly against the surface of the table they're all seated at.

The sound of the doorknob rattling causes you to leap backwards in shock, stumbling slightly over your own two feet. The meeting must be over, because someone is stepping out, and then another, and then you're hurriedly dodging out of the path of the entire student body as they file out, talking and laughing with one another as they head down the hall, eventually leaving you alone.

"Y/N?"

Looking away from their retreating figures, you face Monika and find her as she always is with you- curious emerald eyes and a friendly air about her. "Ah- hello," you greet her, trying not to sound as awkward as you feel about your... let's be honest, spying.

"I wasn't really sure that you'd show!" She exclaims, startling you with a sudden hug.

You've actually never gotten a hug from Monika, although you have a ton of hugs to compare hers to- Sayori throws herself at you pretty much daily, and hers tend to be suffocating, always too tight and lasting a bit too long.

From Monika, though? Her hug, despite making your head spin and your heart skip a beat, makes you feel so safe, secure... she's so warm and you can't help but be enamored with whatever perfume she uses.

Unfortunately, you're too stunned to return the embrace in time before Monika pulls back from you, and you could swear she has a faint blush on her cheeks. She doesn't apologize for her impromptu action, though, and you're glad for that.

"Why wouldn't I?" You ask, dumbstruck.

She studies you for a few seconds, and you get the idea that she's trying to detect if you're being serious or not. Eventually she says, "Oh, nevermind that! I am glad to see you, though. I have something I wanted to give you."

'Please refrain from saying something really stupid and cheesy like, 'the best gift you could give me is just getting to see you on my birthday,' you think to yourself. "A gift? You really didn't have to- or, I mean, you shouldn't have-! Not that I don't appreciate it, though...!" You don't typically struggle so much with your words, but you're still a little off your game after the lovely hug. It's like your mind is foggy, your tongue is twisted, and you simply can't think straight. Which isn't really new when you're around Monika, but today it's impacting you even more than normal. Maybe because you two are all alone for once, not surrounded by Sayori, Yuri, or Natsuki, or even any other students for that matter.

Monika gives a soft laugh. "I wanted to. Technically it's two somethings rather than one," she admits.

You find your mind racing as it tries to go over the potential possibilities. A book like Yuri? That would be very fitting, since you'd befriended Monika through the Literature Club.

You watch as she takes a gift box out of her bookbag, offering it to you with a sweet, "Happy birthday, Y/N."

God, you're definitely blushing. Like, fierce blushing. Either that or the school suddenly decided to turn fifty heaters on all at once. 'Geez, pull yourself together!! Act normal!' You internally berate yourself. If there had been any doubt before, it was all erased in this one instant- you were head over heels for your club president.

"Awh, thank you! It's nice of you." You accept the gift, examining it momentarily. As expected of the class star Monika, the box itself is wrapped perfectly. It's even your favorite color, with a matching ribbon tying it shut. Whether or not you're a sentimental person, you recognize that this is the sort of memento that could easily be kept for a long, long time. You glance back to your friend. "May I open it now?"

Monika nods. "Please do!"

You feel her gaze on you as you carefully untie the ribbon and open up the gift box to see what's inside.

She was right, it is more than one thing. They sort of go together though, you realize as you lift one of the presents up to admire it.

In your hand is a necklace. The chain is a light silver, and the pendant contains a pretty stone in the shape of a heart. The stone shimmers slightly as it reflects the light of the school hall.

"It's so pretty...!" You breathe.

"I'm glad, I thought it was pretty too," Monika says. She sounds calm, but when you glance at her you think she's ecstatic, but the expression is gone as soon as you blink, leaving you to wonder if it had been your imagination playing tricks on you. "It's your birthstone, did you notice?"

You hadn't noticed until she'd pointed it out, but it was indeed your birthstone. Monika is just... so very thoughtful. It's really no wonder she's so popular. "Thank you so much!!" You chirp, still somewhat surprised that she would go so far just for a birthday gift for you. You hadn't known her personally for very long, after all.

You set the necklace back down inside the box to bring out the other gift, another accessory- it's the same color as your birthstone necklace, but it actually reminds you of something else.

Yes, it's a big bow similar to Monika's own. If you were to wear it, it could even look like she and you were matching. You could just be reading too much into things, though...

"I.. love them. So much." You have an overwhelming urge to put your thoughts onto paper in order to give Monika the proper thanks that she deserves for being possibly the most generous person in existence, and because you feel like you're failing miserably at voicing just how touched you really are by these gifts. "I almost want to get you something in return...!"

Monika shakes her head in amusement. "It's your birthday, not mine." A contemplative finger rests on her chin as she adds, "Although... there is something you could do for me. If you wouldn't mind, of course."

Perplexed, you respond without giving yourself a chance to think about it. "Anything!"

You're rewarded with an affectionate smile from Monika, but it seems as though she was expecting that to be your answer.

She extends a hand for the gift box that you've already set both the bow and necklace back in, inquiring, "May I?"

Wordlessly, your intrigue piqued, you hand it back to her. She takes the bow out first, stepping closer to you.

It's not foolish of you to have been anticipating a kiss- even now you could very easily initiate one if you so chose, because of how terrifyingly close Monika is to you as she gently pulls your hair back for you, tying it back with the Y/FC bow and even brushing a stray lock of hair from your face after she does so.

While you're struggling to recover from your short-circuiting, Monika takes the necklace and places it around your neck. The brush of her fingers sends sparks of static against your skin, and you feel as if time is standing completely still, and it's just you and her in this world.

The faint click of the necklace as it clasps shut is what brings you back to reality, and all too soon Monika is stepping away from you again, still close but at a much more reasonable distance away.

She appraises your appearance and then smiles softly. "As I thought."

Is she being mysterious on purpose or does being around her just happen to kill your brain cells? "E-Eh?"

"You look lovely, Y/N."

The compliment makes you want to bury your face in your hands in the futile hopes of hiding your blush, but by now it's probably too late for that.

You stutter out your thanks, desperately trying to mend your scattered thoughts, and she once again wishes you a happy birthday, reminding you as well to bring your poetry assignment to the club meeting tomorrow.

As she's leaving, you realize you never got the chance to ask about the strange behavior she'd exhibited during the meeting with the other students.

You felt a strong sense of deja vu when you woke up this morning, suddenly motivated for the festival that was going to happen today.

The day before, where you stayed home after learning what Monika did to your friends at the literature club, you had no will to get out of bed.

‘Huh..that must’ve been what Sayori felt all these years’. Of course, no way would you let your gloomy state sink as low as hers, but you didn’t wanna face the day knowing your friends were dead--all so Monika could satisfy her loneliness with you.

You ignored her calls and texts throughout the day. How could you just forgive her after all the horrible things she did to your friends..who you thought were also her friends?

Though as you checked the files, you were stunned to see that...

Everyone was back.

The three other girls had their .chr files restored like nothing ever happened. And it put a smile on your face as you sighed in relief, closing the file. ‘Alright..maybe she realized she was in the wrong.’

Of course, you weren’t going to just forgive and forget all because she decided to return them to this world. And you were certain she knew that, too.

But for now..you’ll get ready for school.

Just as you expected, all of the girls were in the literature club, putting up decorations around the classroom. They didn’t know what happened to them, obviously, so they were confused when you hugged them extra tightly, promising you’ll spend time with each and every one of them.

Sayori picked up on your cheerful mood and laughed as she embraced you. Yuri blushed and stuttered in confusion but managed to return the hug in an awkward manner. Natsuki scolded you for nearly making her drop the cupcakes, though she hugged you back with a huff.

And Monika...well...she didn’t expect anything right away, so for you to hug her, too, was a shock.

“I thought..you were going to delete me...” She muttered after a long silence, her arms remaining stiff. “You’re forgiving me now? Even though I made you so miserable?”

“You did make me miserable. I had nightmares of all those..glitches of my friends.” You sighed, letting her go but holding both her hands. “But I’d be no better if I deleted you, even though you basically told me step-by-step.”

“Ah..I did get carried away, but..thank you for giving me a second chance.” Tears shimmered in her emerald eyes as she gazed up at you, squeezing your hands. She was addicted to their warmth, but didn't allow herself to get carried away. “I-I still love you, [y/n]..I always will. I should’ve realized sooner how truly selfish I was...i-it’s just...not fair that I never--”

“Then I’ll spend the weekend with you.”

Monika blinked in surprise. “What..?”

“A happy ending is all you ever wanted, right?" You asked with a smile. "Well, I'm gonna give you that today. Or maybe..this doesn't have to end with me just falling for one beautiful girl. We could make our own happy ending as a club, without manipulating files."

For a moment she was quiet, though she soon returned the smile. The way you still held her hands despite how she used them to manipulate and torment made her heart beat rapidly. It wasn't broken anymore.

But you could tell she wanted more than that, so you gave her a kiss on the cheek. Then you were caught off-guard when she suddenly threw her arms around you, tears falling freely from her eyes now.

"I-I promise I'll stop." She sobbed lightly. "Just don't l-leave me again...I'm sorry.."

You were surprised by the sudden gesture, though you hugged her back, relieved that things were going to be different from now on.

"Awh is this a group hug??"

Sayori's chipper voice rang out as she ran over to join in, followed by a calmer Yuri, who pulled Natsuki into the group hug.

"H-Hey! I was gonna join anyway!" She huffed. "What's up with Monika? Did something happen?"

"N-No.." The club president shook her head, smiling as she brushed away her tears. "I'm just..so happy we could all be here together. I'll never take any of you for granted."

She might see them as code, but she'll do her best to see them the way you do: as true and genuine friends.
