June 19, 1969: Atlantic's Bernard de Bosson and International Promotion Manager Philippe Rault organized a promotional visit for the band, with a performance on Tous En Scene TV variety show in Paris. They were also scheduled for live radio interviews on Inter's Pop Club and Europe1 "Campus".
Tous En Scene: First broadcast on July 24, 1969, Sept. 5, 1969, November 28, 1970 and re-discovered in 1991. A portion of this footage is available on the official Led Zeppelin dvd, released in 2003. There is unreleased footage in the archives, including the beginning segment of Dazed & Confused and backstage.
“The two songs that were featured in various TV shows and TV series to promote the bands work with reference to the first album were ‘Communication Breakdown’ and ‘Dazed and Confused’. With some of these TV shows at the time, it became more obvious that wanting to perform our material live and the quality of the TV recording just wasn't working - like mixing oil and water.”
— Jimmy Page

October 10, 1969 - Paris France - Olympia Theater
Good Times Bad Times (intro) Communication Breakdown
I Can't Quit You Baby
Heartbreaker
Dazed and Confused
White Summer / Black Mountain Side
You Shook Me
Moby Dick
How Many More Times (medley incl. "Lemon Song", Boogie Chillen'.)
First broadcast on French radio, November 2, 1969 on Europe1 (Musicorama program). The tape was re-discovered in the radio station's basement in 2007 and re-broadcast on December 7, 2007. Officially released in 2014 on the deluxe editions of "Led Zeppelin I".
Press Review excerpt (French translation): Jimmy Page, all in rose, guitar on the hip and long hair, Robert Plant, lion mane in black shirt and pants shared the forefront. Further down, the quiet John Paul Jones and John Bonham ("Bonzo"), a rhythm of hell. They began on a title extracted from their first L.P., "Good Times Bad Times”, excellent work of Bonzo at the drums, everything was above all, the fantastic voice of Robert. The audience warmly applauded.
What follows is adventure of all groups. Work, repetitions, first concerts and departure for the U.S.A. & the glory. Led Zeppelin went very fast to be one of the very first groups of heavy rock. At the end of "Good Times, Bad Times ", we were obliged to agree on the veracity of the thing.
Robert announces "I Can’t Quit You Babe…”, which is extraordinary, rises in the room.
Then, from their second album "The Only Way To Fly" (promising title!), they play us fantastic "Heartbreaker." In support, there is undeniably something. The power of Robert's magnetism …
Then it's "You Shook Me ". Robert here plays the harmonica and, very strongly, in another way. Big blues well arranged.
Then we bring Jimmy a new guitar and a chair and his acolytes leave the scene. The demonstration in the style "I play rock, it's true, but I also know how do something else".
Page and his guitar became one during the five or six minutes of the song. Who was playing? Who was the instrument and who the musician? Or was the boundary between the agile fingers and notes? The group then came back on stage, Robert pointed out that Jimmy had just interpreted "Black Mountain Side".
Following "Dazed and Confused ", another great moment of the evening where Robert modeled his voice on the sounds of the guitar, reproducing them to perfection. Then master Page grabbed his bow… The sounds coming out of the amp are amazing.
The show does not seem to to terminate as the air is motionless. Robert, similar to a young lion, occupies the whole motive of the scene, the other being taken by his friend Jimmy. I know more than a little girl from the room who would gladly have let go.
Bonzo will serve us a super-drum solo. This is Moby Dick, from their second album. John Paul is running his fingers at mind-blowing speed on the frets of his bass.
Finally, Robert, exhausted, sweating, we hear "How Many More Times". The last title, they all break down, as ever I had seen a group to do. The curtain closes, Led Zeppelin goes backstage. A stormy winds are about to pass in the Olympia.
For the first time in France, a Heavy Music band performed there and hopefully that the success of this evening will incite show organizers to continue this kind of concert with other groups and why not, again Led Zeppelin.
Although, Robert and Jimmy's are more obvious, do not omit John Paul Jones, bassist with the inexhaustible imagination and John "Bonzo" Bonham ‘s striking quality. Together, they form one of the groups "Leader" of contemporary music and I hope that for a long time we will hear talk about the fabulous airship. [Jean Matrial / Oct. 1969]
