Evermore Park is uniquely brain infecting bc everyone who hears about it starts thinking of ways it could be "fixed", and normally that kind of armchair design would be fantasy nonsense, but in this case all of those suggestions from randos online are infinitely better and more sensible than the actual fantasy nonsense the CEO tried to do. It's always just "yeah that would've been smarter than spending all your money on real tombstones"

So apparently Evermore Park has finally shut down.

The owner of Evermore, Ken Bretschneider put out a vague statement about unforeseen challenges, but the guy who owns the land which Evermore sits on (Brandon Fugal) was like "Yeah, they hadn't paid rent since December so I'm evicting them".

watching jenny nicholson's new video really made me sit and think about what i could do if i was a billionaire. that rich guy literally made everyone in his neighborhood happy by making a free lavish haunted house before immediately fumbling the bag when he Could have made evermore great.

like not only could i help all of my friends and family and solve world hunger... i could also just make like. places for people to go and be happy.

Best Westworld Park?

A: Original Cowboy Flavor. The setting of Season 1, including towns like Sweetwater, Pariah, Los Mudas, and Escalante, along with important laboratories like the CR4DL and the Forge. Roughly based on the North American West, 1864.

B: Shogun World: A plot cul de sac that Maeve and friends get stuck in during Season 2. Based on Japan's Edo period. (1603-1868).

C: The Raj. It's definitely trying to say something about colonialism, even moreso than the other parks. Whether it's succeeding is another issue. Based off an Indian safari experience between 1865 and 1986.

D: War World. A Simulation created by Serac for Maeve in Season 3. Based on Italy in WWII. Where she and Lee finally have their two minutes of romance.

E: The "Real" World. A Cyberpunk metropolis on both sides of the Pacific, in the not-too-distant future of 2050.

F: Fantasy World: Based on the European Medieval period, this park has been cut for costs after Dolores's revolution. The dragon has been auctioned off, piece by piece.

G: Temperance. A new park opened by William in Season 4, based on the Prohibition Era, and the works of Ernest Hemmingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

H: Greco-Roman World: A fan theory based on the existence of such a park in the original 1973 film. Considering the hosts are lager than life figures with cities of their own now, it would be interesting is all I'm saying.

Jenny Nicholson's video on Evermore park, aka a cosplayLARPer's nightmare

If any of you have 4 hours to kill while something plays in the background I HIGHLY recommend Jenny Nicholson's deepdive on a Youtube larping park called Evermore. The first half of the video covers it's creation and best moments, which remind me of my local Dickensfaire San Francisco festival -which looks really fun. The midsection covers the park's decline and the entire final half is Jenny the theme park/escape room buff going to Evermore to experience it herself.

This video is such a wild ride to me and I'm not even a LARPer, RPG Fantasy or cosplay enthusiast...if you are any these things I imagine this could be a mix of funny and infuriating.

Really very sad for the Evermore fans and park actors who really are the heart of the experience and have been horrifically exploited by this ill-thought CEO. You all deserve better and it would be amazing if Evermore could somehow be taken from him and given to the people/a person who knows how to actually manage festivals. The revolving gate for a park like this and changing themes is so my speed even if I don't LARP.

I assume you saw Jenny Nicholson's video, is there anything you strongly disagreed with?

Not at all. The only things to add or clarify would be:

1. The ‘creative’ staff has been reorganized multiple times, and each iteration had their own method of writing and communicating stories, characters, quests, gameplay, etc. so a lot of answers to questions about story and gameplay can vary considerably depending on the timeframe.

2. The other half of the January 2021 layoff announcement that Jenny didn’t mention was that all story, characters, quests, guilds up until that point would be discontinued, and that moving forward Evermore would be lighter on the story side.

3. Jenny’s personal experience at the park happened at the worst possible time. That’s not to say that had she visited at even the best of times all her problems would be gone, and it is 100% a terrible look for the park that it has EVER been that bad, but it’s worth noting that her experience isn’t entirely indicative of what most guests’ experience is like.

This is the video where I learned about Evermore Park shutting their doors, and not only is the Youtuber very funny but I'm agog at Evermore's shocking and unprofessional practices. Like instead of just announcing what was happening Evermore tried to hide that they were closing, even freezing the unofficial-but-moderated-by-Evermore-employees Discord server for weeks so fans couldn't speculate. Good idea guys, that won't raise any red flags.

I absolutely adored going to evermore park. It's so friendly over all.

I got a little bag of random trinkets, and it was so much fun to tell someone that I like their costume and give them a rock. I gave one girl a bottle cap from the cream soda I had earlier, and she just lit up because she collects bottle caps. A little boy was excited to see my lantern (a pink strawberry for the Dragon Lantern Festival) and I gave him a little vial of glitter and he just immediately ran and showed his mom. I gave a person in an old man mask a little lollipop button because "it's time for the little girl to ask the old man if they'd like some candy." And they were so into it, doubling over laughing and they gave me a little bead in return. I saw another little girl from the fairy guild, and gave her a little arrowhead and she gave me glitter in return. I gave some of the actors little trinkets, too, and they all just lit up, pulling little trinkets out of their own pouches to give in return. And like, this trinket trading wasn't even on my radar the first night I went.

I just loved going for the atmosphere, and it felt a lot easier to kind of talk to people, because I think the autism creachur inside me knew that half the people there were running their conversations on scripts just as I was.

Evermore Park is absolutely a place where you get as much as you put in.

I am a crazy person and wrote out my thoughts on Evermore park's questing system. Obviously there are larger overarching problems than this but when you have thoughts you have thoughts what can I say.

I wanted to focus on things that only required changing the strategy towards writing stories (if they still have writers...) and briefing actors.
