Recently had a silly Handplates dream where Papyrus was trying to snoop around Gaster and Alphys’ lab, but didn’t know who Alphys was and so was trying to pass it off as his own lab lol (Patreon)
#Doodles#Dream log#UT#Handplates#Papyrus#Gaster#Sans#Alphys#And also he was Big Brother Papyrus to a babybones Sans lol#I doodled them as close to the dream as possible so if it's silly or doesn't make sense take it up with my subconscious lol#I remember Gaster had a reputation for being very charming and charismatic which ?? Sure okay lol#He was also quite smiley - personally I read that as him putting on a face to the public but even that seems out of character for him lol#Everyone else was pretty much as usual - Alphys small and nervous and Papyrus loud and bombastic#I don't remember what exactly he was looking for - doubly weird 'cause I hadn't reread him and Sans exploring yet! :0#Just of them moving into their house - though I did read a bunch just before sleeping so safe to say I can attribute that lol#This was the only really clear part of the dream - the rest was just scrolling scrolling scrolling pages and pages of comic panels#Can't imagine why lol#Also intercut with some of the poses I ended up doodling before - surprise! They were dream doodles lol#Also in case it's not clear - Alphys was Very Much Present while Papyrus was trying to pass himself off as the name on the door lol#Oh yeah I'm pretty sure he was also speaking in WingDings thus why Alphys didn't immediately call him out lol#The room was quite cute actually - not at all the sterile grey of the True Lab#Warm and wooden with high windows nearly covered in clutter and paperwork with a desk in the middle lit by yellow light#Cozy#Barely evil-looking at all

A storm of a hunt part 3
Part 1

Next
You hesitantly tell him your name, maybe he was actually just being nice?
"Huh… cool name..." He mumbles.
A waft of coldness crawls over your skin, making goose bumps rise. You can't stop the shiver that follows it.
"Oh shoot." Papyrus sighs. "That damn heater."
He stands up, then kicks the little heater a few times and presses the button, but nothing happens. He seems to give up on the heater and you watch him as he walks over to the box labelled torture. Your whole body is tense but you keep you're eye on him as he rummages through the box. He's looking for something that you can be sure of.
After all this was he really going to hurt you? After what's been said? What will he find in there? What does he want? Maybe he's looking for something to tie you up with.
He's just playing some kind of sick game again, like everyone else in this hell hole. You shouldn't trust anyone, not even down here. You just can't especially since all you've been met with is manipulation, lies and treachery.
Maybe now you could try to escape, slip away while his back is turned. But as you try and sit up, a sharp pain burns in your side, there is no way you're going anywhere while you're in this agony. You sit back down and instinctively hold your injuries, not that it helps. Why does everything hurt worse once you've had a minute to rest?
Papyrus comes over with something. It looks like a big metal tin. How Is he going to hurt you with this?
He kneels on the floor, setting the tin down, he's filled it with wood and sticks. Then he snaps his fingers over it, an orange spark floats down settling on a twig, it fizzles briefly as it sets alight. The fire is slow to grow but it already feels warmer than the small space heater. The flames grow and dance as they cast an amber glow. You're mesmerised for a moment.
"Do your injuries still hurt?" His question snaps you out of it.
"Yeah, those traps did quite the number on me." You say with a nervous laugh.
"Let me check your HP."
"Wa-"
In that second the world around goes dark, an encounter? You feel fear creep over you, this wasn't good.
"-It…."
Damn is he going to fight you? Or just check you like he said? If this was going to be like any of the other monsters you'd encountered before? you're sure it won't be fun.
You look over to your HP. There's something weird about it, it doesn't seem right, and that makes your stomach churn with even more nerves. You don't know what's wrong but It can't be good.
He stares at you intently for a second.
'Papyrus cheeked your stats he doesn't seem happy with what he sees.'
It's your turn now. His name is yellow, you know what that means. You're tempted to take a peek at his stats but you really don't have the energy right now and you're pretty sure he won't appreciate it. You are definitely not up for a fight, so you choose mercy. Everything fades back to normal. That wasn't so bad.
He then just walks out, leaving you behind and alone. The only sounds that keep you company are the crackling fire in front of you and the howling wind outside.
You sigh and huddle up by said fire, pulling the jacket around you again as you wonder what on earth he saw that he didn't like. You hope whatever it was won't get you hurt. How did you ever end up in this situation? If only you could remember.
You feel the warmth of the fire almost wrap around you as it seeps in and you finally start to thaw. Your toes almost sting like pins and needles as the feeling starts coming back to them.
It wasn't long though until Papyrus was back, he entered silently like he'd just appeared in the room.
He holds a brown paper bag out to you, "Eat this."
You take the bag, inside is a donut with black icing and a purple cobweb design on top. You usually would have been suspicious of such a gift, just in case it was poisoned. But at this point you don't really care, you're just happy to get some food. All you can do now is sort of trust him right? as much as you might dislike it. What other choice do you have?
"Thanks."
You take a bite of the donut, the first flavour you get is sugar, it's very sweet, there also seems to be a bit of a spiced flavour then you taste the weirdest thing, you're hit with a faintly meaty flavour like chicken, mixed with a slightly fishy taste? and there's a dubious crunch to it. Then following it is a sandy texture that tastes smokey, but it's all then taken over by the alcoholic aftertaste that hits next. Despite the weirdness it's actually pretty good, better than snail pie to say the least, possibly the second best thing you've eaten since falling down here, the first being that candy that kept you alive through the ruins. You finish off the whole donut.
Wait. A sudden strange feeling washes over you, you feel the urge to check your stats. Did you just level up? That's kinda mysterious but cool, why would that have happened?
He then sits in front of you.
"What are you doing?" You ask.
"Your wound…How's it?"
"It um... feels a little better."
"Let me check it?" He asks.
You pause and take a moment to think. "I… don't know…" Is the only reply you could conjure up.
"It's ok."
He pulls the jacket off your shoulder.
"Hey don't." You grab his wrist.
He takes your hand and moves it off his wrist with a scowl. Then he pushes your ripped top up enough to see your wound.
You flinch as his cold phalanges brush against your skin.
"Sorry." He mutters, but he doesn't stop what he's doing, he looks over your badly wrapped wounds.
Now that he's so close you notice how his cheekbones seem to have a faint rusty glow to them, and he's actually pretty cute. No you can't be thinking like that. He's a skeleton monster that just hunted you down in a snowstorm, and scared you half to death. Not to mention you're now in his torture shed.
"The trap had some magic that stops it healing. I'm gonna to treat it. Can I… um...?" He gestures to your injuries and you fill in the gap.
You think for a minute… Is it smart to let him treat you? Probably not. But it might be your only chance, if anything he's saying is true.
"I did a pretty shoddy job with wrapping it up didn't I? Just be careful... I'd rather not die today you know…" You mumbled. Maybe that hint was a little too obvious, you feel like you basically just yelled please don't kill me. Would it be better to just beg for your life? Would that get you anywhere? Could you let go of what little pride you have left?
"You're lucky. I... can't have you dying yet." He takes his phone out and gets a first aid kit from his inventory. "Could ya hold your shirt up?"
You do as he asks and hold up your top, the cool air is sharp to your newly exposed skin, you can't help but shiver some more.
"You humans sure feel the cold don't ya?"
Is he trying to strike up a conversation? Or just making an oddball comment?
Either way you don't really answer him…
And with that he quickly warms his hands over the fire before he ever so carefully unwraps your bloody makeshift bandage. You watch his every move carefully, making sure there's no foul play. He then gets out a small round pot from the first aid kit, it's white with a green symbol on the lid.
"This'll sting but it'll help."
He applies the light green cream, it has a peculiar scent that can only be described as warm and kind, but it feels like he's just rubbed nettles over your flesh, that means it's working right? For you're benefit you hope. He then wraps your wound up, it's not too tight but definitely tighter then whatever you'd managed before. He pulls his jacket back around you.
"You should try and get some sleep." He pats your head before he sits down next to you.
"Are you staying?"
"Yeah. Rest. I'll stay guard."
"Why are you helping me?" You query.
"It's complicated." He huffs. "No more chit chat. Just sleep already." He pulls the hood over your face roughly.
"Ok." You yawn as you lean into the corner of the shed, the wooden wall is cold and hardly an ideal pillow but you are so tired it barely bothers you, you close your eyes and soon enough you're asleep.
. . .
"MUTT! have you lost your mind?"
"Hush M'lord, They're sleepin'."
"YES SLEEPING AND NOT DEAD."
"I can't kill em."
You open your eyes slightly, stirring awake from the commotion and loud voices.
You see Papyrus and the other skeleton, his brother?
"Then let me at the darn human." He snaps.
"M'lord you can't." Papyrus stops his brother from getting closer.
"AND WHY NOT!?"
"I told you. I need to figure it out. Trust me."
"You're going soft, don't forget your duty Papyrus! You have a week! NO THREE DAYS! Figure out whatever the heck you need to then get rid of that pest, that rodent." He starts walking off. "If Alphys finds out, I'm dead, this will be the end of my malevolent career. The Queen will have our heads for this! YOU KNOW THAT RIGHT?" He huffs as he storms out.
You're still so tired… your eyelids are too heavy to keep open… With this new silence you can't stay awake for even a second more.

a whole new world
Summary: A short commission for a lovely returning customer, featuring a Pearl!Reader fusing with Undyne!
2k-Kofi Commission - Undyne/Reader, Gem!AU, Fusion!AU
read it on ao3 / buy me a coffee
You stared down at Undyne’s outstretched hand in complete and utter bewilderment.
“What?”
“You heard me, nerd!” She flashed a mouthful of shimmering fangs in a bright smile. They glowed iridescent under the flashing colorful lights that hung, swaying from the ceiling. “Come dance with me!”
“Oh!” You clasped your hands to your chest, glancing around at the large crowd. The undulating mass of bodies made you nervous. There was hardly any room on the dancefloor for a single orthodox performance. “You want me to dance for you? I can do that.”
“Uh…” The fins on each side of her head drooped down. “No? I want to dance with you, you dork! Duh!”
“W-With me?” A tingle rushed through your body, though you chalked the heat rising in your cheeks up the warmth exuding off of the thick crowd. “That’s…not usually how this works.”
“I don’t know how they do things on your planet,” Undyne took the chance to scoop your hand into hers, folding her claws gently around your trembling fingers, “but things are different here! When we dance, we dance together!”
You hardly had a chance to utter a squeak back in response before she pulled you from the sidelines and into the fray.
The crowd immediately swallowed you up. Within seconds, there were bodies pressing in on you from all sides. You clung helplessly to Undyne’s hand, allowing her to lead you through the parade of dancers until you finally broke from the circle, stumbling into a small free patch of space.
It wasn’t much, but the moment you surfaced out of the crowd you felt all the air rush back into your lungs. Undyne dragged you closer, her smile faltering as she caught the look on your face.
“Hey, you okay?”
“Y-Yes.” You managed. You didn’t want to disappoint her.
Her eyes flashed with concern, her free hand coming up to cradle your cheek gently. The feeling of her cool, webbed flesh against your cheek made you feel both nervous and relaxed at the same time.
“Are you sure?” She asked, leaning forward. The music was so loud that you could barely hear her over the music. You were growing close to the heart of the crowd. The floor buzzed beneath your feet with each dramatic drop of the beat blasting from the speakers lining the walls.
“Yes.” You said again, this time managing to swallow the urge to stutter.
“Hey, just look at me, okay?” Undyne smiled at you again, softer this time. “Just hold onto me and follow my lead.”
You were good at that; following orders.
You gave her a single, affirmative nod, and relaxed. With Undyne in control, you knew things would turn out okay. All you had to do was like she said, follow her lead, and hold on.
As she spun you around, pressing her body up against your back, you leaned into the action, a leg gracefully poised in the air for balance.
She spun you slowly, one hand on your waist, the other holding an arm above your head to help keep you steady.
You leaned forward into her, allowing Undyne to take the lead as she moved you into a dip, hiking a leg over her hip. She swept you both down until your heads nearly touched the floor, then, just as slowly, she pulled you back up.
Before you knew it, the both of you were waltzing across the floor in a bizarre tango. Undyne was totally in-control, and you allowed her to maneuver you through the crowd with ease.
As the song picked up the pace, so did your dancing. You spun faster and faster, clinging to one another as the crowd parted to make room for you both. You could feel their eyes burning into your backs and you twirled and spun in graceful patterns, trailing sparks in your wake with every footstep. The heat of the room made you feel like your whole body was on fire.
You paid no mind for those other people; your attention was focused solely on the Monster gripping your hand. You could feel her chest moving as she breathed hard against you, the gills on her neck fluttering in a way that made you want to lean in and kiss them.
“You’re not too bad at this.” She grinned playfully.
You flushed, smiling and ducking your head. “Well, I have a good teacher.”
She snickered, sliding both hands down around your waist. With one move, she lifted you off your feet, swinging you around and around happily. You giggled, clutching her shoulders. You laughed together.
The music got louder and louder. You could hear the beat of Undyne’s heart thundering in your ears. Or, what that your own pulse? The lights were so bright. You were so happy. Your whole body was burning, with happiness, and light, and excitement, and—
When you opened your eyes again, you were no longer you.
Well, that wasn’t true. You were you, just a different kind of you…and also someone else.
The music kept playing, but all the dancing had stopped. Everyone around you was frozen, as if suspended in animation, their faces ranging from awe to horror, stretching back as far as you could make out. Which was pretty far, considering how tall you’d suddenly gotten.
“I…what?” You. We? No, it was easier to stick to “You.” Whatever, or whoever, you were, the words were said in a voice that was not your own. But the words felt like what you wanted to say. Like your thoughts were coming out of someone else’s mouth. “What is this?”
You were. Scared. Confused?
Slowly, you raised…your(?) hands. They were your hands, but also not. Slender arms leading up to broad shoulders. Your skin was smooth in some places, scaled in others. Webs stretched between your fingers, thick black claws protruding from where the nails should have been.
“Ohmygod.”
You reached up, fingers tracing over the gills on either side of your neck.
“Ohmygod!!”
A bright smile split your face from ear to ear—or, where ears would have been, but was now where fins sat.
“I can’t believe we fused!” You laughed happily, whooping with joy.
Your elation paused as the utter confusion rolled through you in waves. “But—I thought that wasn’t possible? Only gems were supposed to be able to fuse together, right? This sort of thing, biologically, should be impossible. How could we have…?”
You took that moment to notice that the crowd around you had completely frozen. No dancing, no laughing, no smiling. Just a sea of shocked faces. The DJ had even turned off the music. It was dead silent as everyone in the club stared at you with expressions ranging from awe to disgust to terror.
“Oh, uh. Sorry!” You said, holding your hands—a pair of them at least, up in defense. The others crossed over your stomach.
“I’m just gonna,” you jerked a thumb towards the nearest doorway, “I’m just gonna go now.”
Before anyone could say anything, you made a break for the exit, busting over the threshold and into the chilly night air.
Two hands clasped your face as you sucked in breath after breath. Every exhale came as a puff of heated fog, it was that cold out. You looked down at the second pair of hands sticking out of your abdomen. They were undeniably your Pearl’s hands, much slenderer and skinnier than the toned, sharp-nailed claws cradling your face.
You lowered both sets of hands until they were next to each other, then balled the fists of your top pair. God, you looked. So weird. No wonder everyone had been staring at you. And you didn’t even know what your face looked like—
An idea hit you.
You dug in your pocket, amazed to find Undyne’s cellphone sitting inside of it.
In a flash, you unlocked it, pulled up the Camera app, and took a selfie. You even paused to flash a nervous smile, hoping it would add some charm to the countenance you were about to face.
With a nervous sigh, you waited for the image to load.
The face that greeted you was…not all that bad, actually.
You had Undyne’s crooked, sharp canines, one of which poked out from under your top lip. Your eyebrows were sharp, in a way that always made you look kinda angry.
When it came to your eyes, you had three of them as far as you could tell. The one on the right side of your face was covered with an eye-patch, one you were hesitant to move. The other two were stacked on top of each other on the left side of your face. The Pearl’s were the most prominent, big and shiny and full of shock and anxiety, with Undyne’s sitting above, looking towards the camera with a predatory slit for a pupil. But you could see that out of the two, the smile you wore reached hers the most.
“This is…” You leaned forward, touching your face hesitantly. Watching your eyes open and close. Touching the sharp tips of your teeth. Combing your fingers through your hair. “This is amazing!”
“We—I’ve got to tell everyone!” You fumbled to get your phone out, scrolling through your contacts to try and figure out who to spill the beans to first, “Should I tell Alphys? Oh man, she’d freak! But what about Papyrus? He’d be so jealous, fufufu~!”
Just as your fingers hovered over the Call button, you paused. “Or maybe…maybe we should wait a little bit.”
“But why?” You argued with yourself. “This is awesome, why keep it a secret?”
You sighed, and leaned back against the brick wall, taking in a deep breath to calm your racing thoughts. “What if…what if they don’t like me? What if I do something to mess it all up? Would it be weird if I was around? Would they be okay with me being there? Would I…would I fit in at all?”
The Pearl had a place in the group. Undyne did too. But you…where did you fit? You were a combination of the two, but they each had different positions. Did that make you like the both of them? Or someone completely different? The idea of what could happen upon the reveal made you so nervous.
You squeezed your eyes shut, clenching your fists at your sides. “No. I’m sure they’ll understand. We’re friends, right? At least, my Pearl and Undyne are. So, that means I’ve got a chance too, right?”
Yeah, that’s right. They might not have known you now, but they would, and you’d have just as much a place in the group that your Pearl and Undyne did, too.
“But for now,” you whispered, head hung, “for now, I want to stay like this, just a little longer.”
It was a quiet night out, the only noise being the muffled thumping of the music behind the club’s closed doors. The sky was wide and dark, speckled with twinkling stars.
“We’re going to be okay.” You said to nobody. You said to yourself. You said to Them. “Tomorrow will be a new day, and we can face all our questions and problems then. But tonight. Tonight, I will exist for me.”
And so, you did.
You went back into the club, pushing through the surprised crowd, and taking your place on the dancefloor. Ignoring the stares, the gasps, and the awkward pause that hung in the air before the next song began.
Then you danced. More than you had ever before. With no abandon. You danced for your Pearl. For Undyne. And for the conversations they had, that made you who you were.
Even if you still had questions. Undoubtedly, so would they. What was your name? What kind of gem were you? Were you even a gem? It was hard to say, and though you were curious, those questions could wait until the morning.
Tonight would be Your night.

Working Title: Forward, Back (6/?)
Summary:  Knowing what’s going to happen doesn’t mean Sans can stop it.  Maybe he could’ve put it off forever.  Sans decides to go.
Rating: T
Part Summary: Sans is babysitting and he gets a bad call.
>>First Part<<
C/N: Mental Illness, Illness
Sans was half dozing on the living room couch.  Soozen and Angel were bickering in their partially understandable way.
"It's mine!"
"burble burbububle!"
Sans wasn't positive, but he thought he could safely translate Angel's comment to "No!  Mine!"
There was a loud splat.
"what'd paps say if he heard there was hitting?"  Sans asked, not opening his eyes or moving.  Papyrus was playing outside town, resetting the puzzles he'd set up out there, and Sans had been left in charge.
"You're awake?"  Soozen sounded much too cheerful all of a sudden.
Sans felt something slimy touch his ankle.  He opened one eye.  Angel was looking at him.  Their expression seemed to read: "Play with me?"
They slid away and came back with a handful of playing cards.
"Ugh, that's boring."  Soozen melted into a bored puddle.
"do my a favor, kid, and play nice with your sister."  He yawned and pulled the blanket off the back of the couch and curled up under it.
"C'mon!" Soozen started to play a song on her music player.  Sans didn't recognize the tune, but it was much too energetic.  "Rise and shine!"
Angel climbed up onto the couch and slid up to where Sans' head lump was hidden under the blanket.  They dropped a card on him.
"c'mon, kiddo."
The song Soozen was playing stopped, abrupt.  After a minute, a new one started.
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home, dad  (Soozen yelled "Sans" to cover up the dad line)
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then
"this is the saddest nap of my life," Sans said.  Mostly because it wasn't happening.  "quit it with the life soundtrack.  it's not cool how you're almost stealing my best joke."
She switched to a song from a kids' album.  The song was just called "No!"
"can't argue with that," Sans muttered.  "gimme a sec."
Two minutes later, they caught on that the "sec" was a lie, and Soozen climbed onto his blanket, too.
"Saaaaaaaans."
"blurpleblurp."
"c'mon kids.  quit waiting around, wasting time.  let's play something. uncle sans is getting bored, here."
They let him sit up.
"if i fall asleep at dinner, i'm blaming you kids," he grumbled.
Angel's look seemed to say that he usually did that anyway.
"quit it with the slander."  Sans picked up a few cards that had been scattered near him, and the kids picked up the rest of them.  He started to shuffle.
Sans was just about ready to scam two small children out of their allowances when his phone started playing the melody for a popular song his bro loved.  It was by some Astley guy.
He set down his cards, wondering if Papyrus needed a lunch drop off or something.  Usually he was too busy with his puzzles when he was out there to just call to chat.
Angel burbled and Sans recognized the sound they always used for Papyrus. They knew Sans' ring tones.
"hey, bro, what's shaking your bones?" Sans asked.
"FIRST." Sans recognized something off in his brother's voice.  "I AM COMPLETELY FINE."
Sans' grip tightened on his phone.  "good to hear."
"MORE THAN FINE, REALLY!  TODAY WILL SOON BE COUNTED AMONGST THE MANY AWE INSPIRINGLY SUCCESSFUL DAYS LIVED BY THE GREAT PAPYRUS.  YOU WILL WANT TO REMEMBER TODAY CLEARLY, TO MARK IT DOWN IN YOUR MEMOIRS."
"ok. i'm ready to have my socks knocked off."
"YOU COULD EVEN CALL IT A...BONE-FIED VICTORY!  NYEH HEH HEH HEH!" Papyrus' voice did sound off, and he was sure avoiding the subject.  After he laughed, Sans could hear heavy, pained breathing on the other end of the line.
"thanks. i'll save that one for the memoir."  About being the brother of the Great Papyrus, Sans guessed.  "always glad to get a call outta nowhere about how great you're doing," he continued, uneasy.
"WELL...THIS WILL SOUND STRANGE FROM YOUR GREAT BROTHER, BUT...I AM FINE!  MORE THAN FINE!  BUT NOT...GREAT.  I MEAN, OF COURSE I AM GREAT, BUT MY SITUATION COULD BE CONSIDERED SUB PAR AT THE MOMENT."
"ok. what's up?"  Sans kept his voice light.  He felt sick.
"THERE WAS A...FRIENDLY CONFRONTATION OUTSIDE TOWN.  I WAS, OF COURSE, THE VICTOR.  BUT...LET ME SEE.  HOW CAN I PUT THIS SO THAT YOU DO NOT TAKE A...SHORT CUT TO THE WRONG CONCLUSION, I WONDER?"
"you're where, now?  still outside down?"  Sans should have known better.  Of course something would end up happening out there.
The kids were watching him.
"OH, I KNOW!  IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE, CORRECT?  THAT IS WHAT I AM DOING.  PROVING HOW RESPONSIBLE A SKELETON CAN BE!"
"where, though?  i'm sure you're doing great.  uh.  kinda want to see a good example of...whatever you're talking about."
"SPEAKING OF RESPONSIBILITY, SANS, IF I TELL YOU WHERE I AM, DO YOU PROMISE TO FIND SOMEONE TO WATCH THE CHILDREN BEFORE YOU VISIT ME?  THINK OF IT AS A PRELIMINARY REST YOU MUST PASS BEFORE YOU ALLOWED TO BE AWED BY MY OWN RESPONSIBLE EXAMPLE."
"a promise?  uh."  This was easy, for a change.  "sure, just for you."  He'd just ask a neighbor or drop 'em with Alphys or off at Grillby's bar.
"ALL RIGHT!  I TRUST YOU COMPLETELY, THEN."
"so.  where?"
"I DECIDED TO BE RESPONSIBLE BY CHECKING IN WITH THE DOCTOR."
"got it."
"THEY EXPRESSED A WISH TO KEEP AN EYE ON ME FOR A LITTLE WHILE.  IT IS UNNECESSARY BUT THEY ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE AND ARE SHOWING THAT BY BEING A LITTLE TOO CAUTIOUS."
"sure. they just had to bump your hp back up, right?"
"WELL...THEY DID THAT, YES.  MAYBE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE EASIER TO EXPLAIN IN PERSON.  SKELETON TO SKELETON."
Sans wanted to get down there, so they ended the conversation.  Sans set down his phone and stared into space for a second.
"He's at the doctor?"  Soozen asked.  He could hear how nervous she was.  Papyrus had a loud enough voice that the kids must have heard both sides of the conversation.
"yeah. sounds to me like he cracked a bone or something and they just need to keep an eye on it to make sure it healed right," Sans said. "happens every day."
"Can we go, too?"
"nah. but i'll call and you can talk once i'm there."
"Why not?"  She looked at Angel.  "I'm not a baby."
Sans shrugged.  "later."  Once he was sure it wasn't really bad.  He stood up and the cards he'd been hiding in his lap fell onto the floor.  He didn't register it.
He called a neighbor and luckily someone was around and willing to stop by so Sans didn't have to put too much effort into figuring out what to do with them.
"Why can't I go?"  Soozen asked again, grabbing onto Sans' leg.
"uh." He rubbed his head.  "it'll make him pretty happy knowing how much you wanted to visit."
Her stubborn grip on his leg reminded him that he hadn't answered her question.
"it could be gross to look at.  no point making you sick for nothing, right?  or maybe doc won't let anyone in 'cause there's an infection risk.  we'd be sitting bored in a waiting room for hours.  it's something like that.  ok, kid?"
She nodded, slow, and released his leg.  "We'll go later."
"right. maybe grillbz can take you."
"Ok." The kid looked wobbly.  She didn't have a lot of great memories of doctors, he figured.  She'd know just as well as he did that people didn't always come home when they went to visit them.
But Papyrus was awake and talking.  Sans took a shortcut.
--
Papyrus sat in a small hospital cot, his features contorted more in irritation than anything worse.
"SANS! OF COURSE YOU FULFILLED YOUR PROMISE?"
"yeah.   neighbor came by."
"THANK YOU."  He had said "of course" but the relief on his face made Sans think he hadn't entirely trusted him.
"doc said you've got a, uh, 'hp issue.'"  He made air quotes.
Sans gave his brother a very careful once over.  Papyrus was four points shy of his current max.
"THAT HUMAN HAD A VERY STRANGE WEAPON."
As Sans watched, Papyrus' HP ticked down two more points.
"IT DOES THAT EVERY MINUTE, AND IT IS BEGINNING TO GET ON MY NERVES!"
Sounded like a status ailment.  Those usually lasted a few turns or a number of seconds.  Sometimes they lasted an hour.  "how long since you got hit with it?"
"I DO NOT SEE THE POINT IN IT LASTING SO LONG," Papyrus said, annoyed again.  "IT HAS BEEN AN HOUR AND A HALF."
Some of them lasted a day.  It could get bad for a monster that couldn't easily heal itself, or if it was incapacitated in some other way. "no idea, either," Sans said.
"I DON'T SEE WHY I AM EXPECTED TO STAY HERE.  THIS DAMAGE IS NEXT TO NOTHING TO A MONSTER AS ROBUST AS THE UNDEFEATABLE PAPYRUS.  ALL STAYING HERE IS ACCOMPLISHING IS MAKING YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE NEEDLESSLY AGONIZE OVER MY ALMOST ENTIRELY PERFECT HEALTH!"
"like you said, though.  hanging around's the responsible thing."
"THAT IS WHAT THE DOCTOR SAID, YES."  He crossed his arms, pouting.
"well, bro, what'dya tell me when i get sick?"
"I AM ALREADY ENTIRELY AWARE OF WHAT I SAY TO YOU!"  Papyrus always told him to listen to the doctor, and now it was biting him in the coccyx.
Sans snickered.  "looks like you're getting a taste of your own--"
"MY OWN MEDICINE!  YES!  I DO NOT NEED TO HEAR THIS!"
