Isn’t Aziraphale so nice and kind and sweet and softNO!
He’s a guardian bitch and he WILL tear it up when BEAST MODE IS UNLOCKED.
(Shake that hand, Paul Hollywood!)

✨Hmm. Not sure whether it was Heaven or Hell who came for Crowley, but Pookie’s PISSED.
.
✨ Quick, sketchy, ANGRY Aziraphale, everyone! Never forget…he’s a teddy bear, but he’s also a badass Principality, and HE. WILL. END. YOU. If you touch his husband. Or his books. *Snackrifices help, but do not guarantee your survival.
.
✨What do you think of my first comic-style drawing?? 👀

so, the engine crank. The tool Crowley used to create stars, to pause the apocalypse, to betray hell, to carry angels through fire unscathed, his goodness and creativity made manifest as a human object for his human car. The only token he kept from before the Fall, the only item he grabbed from the burning wreckage, the priceless, deeply personal artifact which he has NEVER entrusted to anyone else, not humans, not deliverymen, not God Herself
where was this item, do you think, when he let Aziraphale drive his Bentley?

Okay, hear me out: Crowley is not the real Protector in their relationship but Aziraphale is.
Right after I post this I promise I will cast ash on my own head freewillingly but.. that thought's just sunk in me... and let's think about it a bit. (Sorry if this was discussed in detail somewhere before, I often feel like I only have second-hand thoughts about these two ineffable idiots)
At this very moment I cannot think of any occasion when Crowley in fact rescued his angel. Oh yes, there's their stupid game of courting invented by Aziraphale where he's the Damsel in Distress and his demon is the Knight in Shining Armour. Don't get me wrong, I love my protective Crowley as much as the next girl, but take a closer look.
The Bastille. Don't mention it. It is so clear that Aziraphale made up the whole thing just to have a lunch with Crowley even a new born baby would be able to spell it out. Aziraphale wasn't in danger of discorporation at all.
The Church in 1941. That is a trickier one, because we all wooed by grand romanitc gesture of Crowley doing the chicken dance on consecrated ground next to a boiling bowl of holy water and saving Aziraphale books that we - okay maybe only I - forget about the fact, once again, that the angel is not in real risk. Yes, he's whining about paperwork of discorporation, but he would be perfectly capable of saving himself by - I don't know, for example teleportation, or make the bullets disappear or simply turn the guns into something else - without the demonic intervention of the Blitz's plan.
Okay. These above were already analyzed many times by many clever people. Let's see the next one.
The bookshop attack - sorry to say, but it's again a nope. Crowley is promising to his angel to return, escorting the humans out, then tricking Muriel to take him to Heaven. But by the time he's back Aziraphale has already averted the immediate danger of the demon attack. They only have to deal with the aftermath.
And now let's see the occasions when Aziraphale in fact saved Crowley
The West End in 1941. Okay, that was a real threat. Furfur had a solid evidence of their Arrangement (and maybe more) and they couldn't use miracles to ease the situation. Not sure about the Heaven at that point but Hell definitely wouldn't express their disappointment only with strong worded letter. Crowley was in bigger trouble than Aziraphale, in bigger trouble than ever. And it only depended on Aziraphale's cold blood and fortunate magic trick not to drag the demon back Down. And did Crowley thank his angel? No, he didn't. At least not as much as we know right now. Instead he insulted him - even if the tone was affectionate ("you are really terrible at magic") and for whatever reason Aziraphale did the "I was wrong" dance. I desperate for a 3rd 1941 minisode in S3... Neil please
Soho 1967. Aziraphale gave Crowley holy water - after everything he said in 1862. How it is considered as a Rescue? Well, without this ultimate weapon Crowley would hardly escape from Ligur and Hastur, wouldn't he. Maybe he'd slip out of their hands for a moment but after screwing up the delivery of Antichrist and have evidence against him collaborating with an angel - the odds are not on his favour so to say.
In the book at Warlock's birhtday party the kids somehow took the security's guns and one is aiming at Crowley and about to pull the trigger. Aziraphale blinked and all the weapons turned to water pistols.
Maybe this last one is not really count as rescue (and it's not in the show) as might Crowley could miracle himself out of the danger IF he's fast enough but I like to think about this as Saving.
Anyway. Even if I count it strictly, it's two nil to Aziraphale so far.
Aziraphale is a Guardian Angel. He guards his demon, no matter what. Even if it means to pull a magic trick.
Even if it means to pull them (their Us) apart.

Angel of the Eastern Gate
I'm sure someone has already made this connection, but here you go just the same. In "Everyday," Aziraphale wields a candelabra to defend Nina, Maggie, and Jimbriel after demonic forces gain access to the bookshop. It's his flaming sword (metaphorically speaking). It's almost perfectly analogous, from the way he handles it to the imagery of a fiery weapon.
For comparison, here's Aziraphale all fierce and protective with the flaming sword in the S1 showdown.
Tumblr media
And here's our angel, once again in mama bear mode, guarding his bookshop and his adopted humans (and Jimbriel, too.)
Tumblr media
This angel has a flaming sword.
I actually mapped out the scene using a diagram of the bookshop, hoping that Aziraphale would be standing under the eastern end of the atrium (under the cardinal "E"), to further emphasize his role as guardian of the Eastern Gate. But from what I can gather, he is actually positioned under the southern edge. Someone please prove me wrong. Please.
But back to mah point.
Aziraphale's use of weapons is always to protect humanity (even his misguided choice to give Adam the flaming sword was made with the intention of protecting the humans; the fact that he inadvertently precipitated all future human conflicts by encouraging violence as a solution to problems was certainly not his objective, but that's another post...) Aziraphale's not aggressive, he's not even confrontational, but he's a fighter and he is willing to defend what he cares about. I love this, because neither him nor Crowley are warriors in the expected sense of the word. Aziraphale is prepared to protect what he loves and Crowley always has some bullshit plan up his sleeve to divert the enemy's attention and save the humans (Standard Rules of Engagement, clause 112, subsection 3, anyone?) Neither is inclined to attack an adversary head-on, but neither is disposed to allowing injustice to occur if they can do something about it.

Hey, I wasn't around post S1, but have we talked about the fact that Crowley starts sidling closer to Aziraphale almost before Aziraphale lifts his wing? And like, he has to take two pretty big steps closer to get under, so it's not a small movement.
So either Crowley just wanted to be closer and Aziraphale decided to shelter him at roughly the same time, Crowley asked to be sheltered, or Aziraphale verbally offered to shelter him.

In the Japanese dub of Good Omens, "Principality" is translated as "kentenshi," which raises more questions than it answers.
Is it the same ken as in "prefecture" (県), which would make sense for a Principality who's set in charge of a specific location?
Or is it a play on words with ken meaning "sword" (剣), since he's the angel who was given a flaming sword to defend the Eastern Gate?
Sadly, the subtitles reveal nothing, since they're a completely separate translation and leave out the ken entirely.

Eden’s Fruits…
A serpent hides in the garden among date trees, pomegranates, figs and olive trees, and is tempted by a different fruit (puns absolutely fucking intended). He’s draped over a fig branch, which theological scholars have sometimes thought was the fruit of the tree of knowledge, because Adam and Even clothed themselves in fig leaves after. Apples are never mentioned in the texts, they’re a medieval additional to the lore. An olive tree stands a the hastily made Eastern Gate, a reference to the olive trees we see throughout the Judeo-Christian texts. All the plants in this are native to the Fertile Crescent area where the story of Eden is based.
I tried a new art style and some how in turned into a very different experiment, but I’m very happy with it!

Guardian of the eastern gate
And the most east place on earth(before the discovery of america and all that) is the British isles
Is that why aziraphale, being the guardian of the eastern gate, has been stationed in london?
