Queen Lovisa of Sweden as a princess, copy of original by Nicaise de Keyser (oil on canvas, original 1850)
The future Queen Lovisa is depicted on a terrace with roses and ivy. She wears a white dress with delicate lace.
The portrait is regarded as being highly flattering, and as a future queen she had all the qualities the royal court was looking for. She was a Protestant and politically suitable, and came from a wealthy family.
The painting was produced by an unknown copyist, based on an original by the Belgian painter Nicaise de Keyser.
The portrait can be seen in the Bernadotte Gallery at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

if i could write contemporary stuff, which is not my forte because i'm too firmly in the wheelhouse of "supernatural creatures / aliens / superheroes etc", i'd write a story about a dutch princess falling for a belgian princess.

When the Translation Gets... Unexpectedly Fruity
Tumblr media
And this, dear people of the internet, is why one should always hire a professional, or at least a native speaker to look over what translations you've cooked up with the help of some online translators.
This is from the official website of Het Loo Palace, and this little genealogical overview contains a mistake that is rather hilarious.
For all my German-proficient esteem'd readers of this post, I'm leaving the two, three smaller issues going on besides out.
Now, in German, the Dutch dynasty of rulers and the colour you get mixing red and yellow are not the same word, as, by contrast, is the case in both English and Dutch (Orange/orange and Oranje/oranje, respectively). In German, the dynasty is called (Haus) Oranien-Nassau, while the colour is orange. Now, if you capitalise the word Orange in German, it becomes a noun and means orange, as in the citrus fruit.
So the sentence Mit wem waren die Orangen verheiratet? reads as
Who were the fruits of various citrus species in the family Rutaceae* married to? *thank you, Wikipedia
Which... unfortunately makes me think of this most Jacobite of memes I ever created:
Tumblr media
Switching to the Dutch version of the website, copying the sentence and throwing it into the slavering jowls of Google Translate reveals that this is possibly how this shoddy translation came to be in the first place:
Tumblr media
Translate seems to recognise that Oranjes is the Dutch plural for members of the House of Orange, but doesn't seem to 'know' the correct German equivalent, Oranier, and so goes with the English equivalent, Oranges. Now, whoever read this through before publishing it on the website knew at least enough German to know that Oranges is not the plural of Orange, and corrected that to Orangen. Which is essentially correct if talking about the fruit, but not if talking about any of the many Willems listed on the website.
The correct way to phrase the sentence to eliminate any accidental fruitiness (a sore spot for some historical members of the House of Orange already) would be Mit wem waren die Oranier verheiratet?, by the way.
I am a tad amused by this (as you can tell), and debating whether I should drop them a line so they can fix this.

Nassaudag Breda 2023 from Ton van de Merwe on Vimeo.
The following music was used for this media project: Music: Return Of The Hero by Sascha Ende Free download: filmmusic.io/song/450-return-of-the-hero License (CC BY 4.0): filmmusic.io/standard-license
For a number of years now, the Nassaudag has been held on the second day of Pentecost to commemorate the connection between Breda and the Nassau's.
The bond between the Nassau House and the Netherlands came into being in 1403. Count Engelbrecht I of Nassau married Johanna van Polanen, wife of Breda, in that year. Due to their growing family ownership, Bredase Nassaus quickly became one of the highest nobles in our country. They were also given increasingly important functions by the Dukes of Burgundy and Habsburg, which ruled large parts of the Netherlands as landlords. Count Henry III of Nassau (1483-1538), for example, held high civil and military offices. He was also involved in the education of Emperor Charles V. The Nassaus lived for one hundred and fifty years at the Castle of Breda. In this period they provided the impetus for Breda's prosperity and brought the city to development. The nobility who lived on the Castle of Breda worked as a magnet on the art sector, jewellery, design and architecture.
If you think of the Nassaus, you think of the royal house. The House of Orange-Nassau was first mentioned in 1544. William I, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg (1533-1584) - better known as William of Orange or William of Silence - then inherited the Southern French principality of Orange from his nephew René of Chalon (officially René Count of Nassau and Prince of Chalon-Orange). As Prince William he is the ancestor of the House of Orange-Nassau. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1584-William I
Tumblr media
William the Silent or William the Taciturn (Dutch: Willem de Zwijger;[1][2] 24 April 1533 – 10 July 1584), more commonly known in the Netherlands[3][4] as William of Orange (Dutch: Willem van Oranje), was the main leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish Habsburgs that set off the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) and resulted in the formal independence of the United Provinces in 1648. Born into the House of Nassau, he became Prince of Orange in 1544 and is thereby the founder of the Orange-Nassau branch and the ancestor of the monarchy of the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, he is also known as Father of the Fatherland (Latin: Pater Patriae; Dutch: Vader des Vaderlands).
Tumblr media
A wealthy nobleman, William originally served the Habsburgs as a member of the court of Margaret of Parma, governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Unhappy with the centralisation of political power away from the local estates and with the Spanish persecution of Dutch Protestants, William joined the Dutch uprising and turned against his former masters. The most influential and politically capable of the rebels, he led the Dutch to several successes in the fight against the Spanish. Declared an outlaw by the Spanish king in 1580, he was assassinated by Balthasar Gérard in Delft in 1584.
Tumblr media
The Burgundian Catholic Balthasar Gérard (born 1557) was a subject and supporter of Philip II, and regarded William of Orange as a traitor to the king and to the Catholic religion. In 1581, when Gérard learned that Philip II had declared William an outlaw and promised a reward of 25,000 crowns for his assassination, he decided to travel to the Netherlands to kill William.  In May 1584, he presented himself to William as a French nobleman, and gave him the seal of the Count of Mansfelt. This seal would allow forgeries of the messages of Mansfelt to be made. William sent Gérard back to France to pass the seal on to his French allies.
Tumblr media
Gérard returned in July, having bought two wheel-lock pistols on his return journey. On 10 July, he made an appointment with William of Orange in his home in Delft, the Prinsenhof. That day, William was having dinner with his guest Rombertus van Uylenburgh. After William left the dining room and walked downstairs, van Uylenburgh heard Gérard shoot William in the chest at close range. Gérard fled immediately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to official records,[26] William's last words were:[27]
Mon Dieu, ayez pitié de mon âme; mon Dieu, ayez pitié de ce pauvre peuple. (My God, have pity on my soul; my God, have pity on this poor people).

Conscienceless/Gewetenloos
TLDR: Our monarchy is a complete joke.
Friday was a rather interesting day in overall, which at first seemed unbearable due to the fact that I was unable to sleep and deadbeat tired, unfortunate enough to be tasked with the obligation of working. So what exactly did turn my day upside down?
The well renowned exploiting slumlord of a prince, cousin of our current king going by the name Bernhard van Oranje-Nassau Van Vollenhoven, happened to walk on the same road where I was stationed at for my working duties. (He is wearing the blue Nike bag attempting to be incognito, typically wearing glasses and being without security personnel, fyi I opted to blur other people in the image bellow intentionally out of respect and privacy.)
Tumblr media
Oh and what made my day? I made this royal scum cousin of the king anxious, as he was walking passed me. When slowly reaching for my smartphone inside my pocket to take a picture of him, it was almost as if he feared that I was reaching for something different. The look on his face was absolutely priceless, his eyes cowered in fear for an instant.
(Fun fact): Did you know that the emblem of the Dutch royal family is symbolized by lions, and that they even refer to themselves as Lions too with that absurd false sense of pride and ego? But tell me this, without security staff you’re lion costume doesn’t fit anymore now does it? So many people share that weak mentality around here, once they are alone they are fucking nothing, but with others they supposedly feel powerful...
If anyone might wonder, why this outrageous and rather personal outburst/verbal post going after royalty you might ask? Well, it’s because Prince Bernard is quite the notorious and unscrupulous figure around here, and let me attempt to summarize that in a single sentence. Basically it is because: This fucking piece of shit owns around 600 homes and offices, around 102 homes in the capitol of Amsterdam alone, which is rather insane if you ask me.
He and many others are simply exploiting parasites, known as one of the several factors, primary roots of corruption that are deeply ingrained in the housing sector. Which have deeply influenced the inflation and rising prices, this applies especially for starters on the market.
As Bernard works with various cooperative schematics in ways involved, that are tied to the major shortages of houses in the Netherlands around 380.000 in total, being responsible for shifting the emphasize to be mainly placed on filthy rich housing sectors projects. Where there is very little room to none, for the creation of houses/apartments which can be affordable to incomes of lower and middle classed families. Making it nearly impossible for people, to even have a fair shot at the housing market in the capitol, or in other cities alike.
So I started to wonder after the prince left in his failed lowkey disguise, what his reasoning was for being in this area? It turned out that it was no mere coincidence that he was here, as the building next to my working site, was also selling an entire floor for a ridiculous €1.675.000 (see the images below) Imagine being such a shit person, that owning more then 100 houses in the capitol isn’t enough to satiate you’re bottomless greed, then you’re fucking beyond salvation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seriously, fuck the monarchy they can all go to hell! As they are nothing but gluttonous pigs down to the rotten core, living on the collective tax money of all its citizens, on each and every single product that you buy. If I wanted to I could devote more of my time and energy to expose, various other corruptive roots embedded in this country directly or indirectly related to our monarchy.
Don’t even get me started about our current king Willem-Alexander, with one of his annual subsidy bills alone he receives around €5.000.000, see for yourself here for the source. Which was meant to be spent on a nature preservation site in De Veluwe. Where one of the old palaces of the monarchy is located, which make up for a very large sector in the area which are off limits to the public every year, and also have dire implications for the flora and fauna because of deliberate waste material (nitrogen) being dumped there. He simply chooses not to spent the money, on improving the conditions for nature or its infrastructure, ideas of innovation. I could also take a moment to talk about the corruptive art trading conduct of business, that the Dutch monarchy is involved in as well, hello Queen Maxima I see you :)
The royal family in the Netherlands have been in vast decline in its overall popularity compared to other ages, now I wonder why that is? Obviously because of various scandals and the loss of credibility on so many counts...
Last year for instance, during a previous lockdown our King gave this speech to the country by broadcasting on television, saying that no one is permitted/allowed to travel abroad, because of Covid-19 and guess what he did himself? Visiting one of the many private accommodations owned by the royal family this time on Greece, but when the media caught on to that he returned swiftly after losing face with his family, and made half assed apologies that weren’t sincere at heart.
