Guess who’s got a new boooooook!

You might have seen me mention my swords & sorcery novel Fire and Lightning, Ash and Stone here and there, but this is my official release announcement! Technically, this novel took the longest to complete out of all my projects, but that’s because I spent five years thinking it was a short story. I would work on it in between other projects, and at around 30 pages I realized that I was in for a waaaaaaaay longer haul lol.

Here’s my first rough attempt at a blurb:

“Jaelin has heard legends of the Grey Princess his entire life. Now an adult, he’s chosen her rescue as his first heroic quest - but the princess from his stories is a pale imitation of the sorceress that he finds at the top of a lonely mountain tower.

Aldwin has lived a quiet, sheltered life among the books of his lord’s library. He has no idea what possessed Jaelin to drag him along on any kind of quest - and he is definitely not prepared for what he’ll discover about himself along the way.

Liana wants nothing more than to study her magic in solitude. But when two adventurers come bumbling up her mountainside, she’s forced to look beyond the walls of her tower - and she finds, much to her surprise, that the world has far more to offer than she remembers.

Can this trio bumble their way through an enchanted forest, survive the ruins of a haunted city, and defeat a centuries-old dragon with only a few hours of planning?

The better question is, can anyone stop them?”

What I really love about this WIP is how actively it subverts classic fantasy tropes. Fans of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles will love this snarky take!

My BooOOOOOK??

Laughter Lines recently got a ton of new love (AND IT WAS REC’D BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS??? AHHHHHH THANK YOU!!!) and I realized I really owe everyone an explanation for where I’ve been and why the story hasn’t been updated in so long.

While there have been a few medical reasons (had issues with a gallbladder and needed to have surgery earlier this year and now we have baby #2 on the way! Pregnancy is exhausting LOL), the biggest contributing factor is I WROTE A NOVEL!!! With finishing the first draft, editing, and now preparing to self-publish, the book has completely occupied all my writing time. 

A young adult fantasy, the book is about a seventeen-year-old named Alvis who possesses a gift of inexplicable strength. Raised in the slums by his genius-mechanic father, Alvis wants to use his strength to help people, but his temper gets in him in trouble instead. Level-headed Rae is a half-dragon, half-human hybrid called a Guardian. A wanted criminal, Rae carries with him the trauma from his time as a gladiator, when he was forced to fight against (and kill) other Guardians for the entertainment of the wealthy. Despite their differences, Alvis and Rae can agree on one thing: they fight best when they’re fighting alone. But when faced with the corruption in their homeland, Zen, one thing becomes clear- they’ll have to keep each other alive if they want to survive. 

It’s got magic, white-haired dragon boys, and a gay MC who has a thing for guys with biceps and strong jawlines, and is really bad at flirting with them. I wanted to share it today because I’ve gotten so much support for my Klance fic and thought it might be something of interest for those of you who enjoy my writing :)

I’m currently working on the next chapter of Laugher Lines in between writing book 2 of WtLDD. My goal is to have it up before VLD’s final season’s premier date (SOBBING) and then the final chapter up by Christmas, so keep a look out! :)

Alvis Witt was trouble.

He was almost always at the center of it, and when he wasn’t it was always close behind him. He was a dangerous boy. He would break your nose, perhaps your jaw, maybe even a few limbs for good measure, if you simply looked at him the wrong way. He grinned at the sight of blood, made deals with shady folks in dark alleys at night, and was once seen bullying a child to the point of tears.

At least, that’s what the gossiping old ladies in the neighborhood would have you believe.

Even though it was all complete bullshit.

(Okay, mostly complete bullshit.)

First of all, Alvis did not “grin” when he saw blood. In fact, it kinda made him gag sometimes, and it was annoying to get out of clothes.

Second, his dad would, without a single doubt, most definitely kill him dead if he caught a glimpse of Alvis hanging around with “shady folks”.

Oh, and that whole making a kid cry thing? That was one, big misunderstanding because- well, yes, Alvis did make that kid cry, but what actually happened was he accidentally knocked the kid’s ice cream cone out of his hand. Then he replaced the cone with the last of his paycheck, but of course that part conveniently gets left out of all those dumb rumors constantly spread through the neighborhood about his reputation.

As for the rest of the snarky gossip surrounding him-

Well, that stuff he had a much weaker defense against.

Still, Alvis Witt wasn’t dangerous; he didn’t get into all those fights because he wanted to (… most of the time). Whether it was because people believed those rumors and sought him out for a fight, or because some snotty rich dude thought he could treat someone like trash, he always attracted trouble. His dad kept trying to teach him about restraint, that he didn’t need to rise to every taunt or challenge someone tossed his way, but the lessons never really stuck.

Maybe one day they would, but, right then, all Alvis could do was dodge the oncoming fist, then respond with one of his own.

“You son of a bitch!” The beefy guy pushed himself up to his knees from where he’d slammed onto the ground, his bleeding nose dripping red into the disrupted snow. “You’ll pay for that!”

“Dude, you’re the one who attacked me for no reason,” Alvis said as he shook out his fist and smirked down at him. “Which is weird, considering what a weakling you are.”

The man let out an enraged cry and lunged forward, his movements sloppy and disoriented. Alvis sidestepped, then grabbed the man by his hair. He yanked his head down to not so gently meet Alvis’s rising knee.

The man fell limply to the ground.

Alvis watched the man’s stilled form for a moment, pausing to see if the fight was really over or not. When the man didn’t move even after Alvis nudged him with his foot, he heaved a sigh. He stepped over the guy to grab the lunchbag he had abandoned the instant he sensed a fist coming at him. Alvis’s hands shook as he picked it up, adrenaline flowing through him, making his fingers itch for more and setting his nerves on fire even through the biting cold. He glanced back, hopeful to see if the beaten man was still conscious- maybe even ready for a second round…

Okay, fine. Alvis did enjoy the fight a little bit. He was good at fighting. Probably the only thing he was good at. Sure, he could paint okay, and he was the most efficient worker when he wasn’t, you know, getting fired. But throwing punches, reading opponents movements, and knocking people onto their asses? That came naturally to him as breathing.

Because fighting was his heart pumping adrenaline into his veins. Fighting was knowing how to smile.

Fighting was a curse.

He really couldn’t call it anything else. Not when he dreamt of using his hands to create, and maybe help people, or even improve the world. But Alvis wasn’t good at fighting simply because it was a part of him; he had a gift life so graciously granted him since he was a child:

Incredible strength.

Maybe to others, his goals sounded simple and cliche, but for him, his strength made them unattainable no matter how hard he tried. He always went in with good intentions in mind, but somehow he failed, and then another rumor would start about the son of that genius mechanic who was tainting the family legacy.

Which… Alvis didn’t particularly disagree with, but he didn’t enjoy thinking about.

The morning bells in the distance pulled him out of his musings, reminding him he was about to be late for work. All need for a fight drained from his body as he took off sprinting, leaving his opponent behind in the snow.

Working on my boooooook

Thinking about commissioning some art headings - just the name of each sign, with a floral boarder of flowers I think suits each one - to be the title of each chapter. I have been trying to narrow it down to 2 plants for each sign (northern woodland/temperate aesthetic, which each season in mind).

You had woken up on the morning of your birthday to find John missing from your shared bed. Usually you slept in on your days off, but the loud noises coming from the kitchen were refusing to let you keep your eyes shut.

You sighed when you realised that the noises weren’t going to go away. You got out of bed, slipping into John’s dressing gown and pulling on your slippers. You rubbed your eyes, heading downstairs and letting your jaw drop as you looked at the mess in front of you.

John had headphones covering his ears, shaking his bum as he cracked an egg into a bowl. The kitchen was covered in sugar, flour and butter. John’s hair looked white with the incredible amount of flour he’d managed to get in his hair.

“Gotta do the cooking by the boooooook!” John sang, smiling proudly to himself. He turned to throw out the egg shell, his jaw dropping. He let out a squeak, dropping the egg shell onto the floor. He pulled his headphones off quickly.

“Need some help?” You asked, stepping forward and brushing some sugar off John’s nose.

“N-No. You should go back to bed. Pretend you didn’t see anything, maybe?” He said quietly, looking down at his feet.

“I don’t think this mess will ever erase itself from my mind. What the hell are you doing? You’re never up early, even on the days when you have to work. Why don’t you just come back to bed?” You asked.

John sighed quietly. “I wanted to do something for your birthday. Something that would make you smile. Guess I kinda failed, didn’t I?” He asked, running a hand through his hair.

“How about after we watch some Netflix and cuddle, we can come back and navigate through this mess? Sound good to you?” You asked, kissing John’s cheek gently.

“As long as you’re happy,” John replied, pulling you into a tight hug. “Happy birthday, love.”

Do you have something you're supposed to tell someone, but you haven't yet? Yeah, it’s got something to do with an org errand that I’m too lazy to do. Are you one of the oldest or youngest in your friendship group? We were all born in the same year but I’m technically one of the eldest because my birth month is earlier compared to most of them. I was always a skeptic, even as a kid, so I never bought into the Santa thing. Maybe one Christmas when I was 4, but I was completely meh about it after that. How many people approximately live in your town/city? Well I checked, and we’re somewhere around 780,000. What country would you never want to visit? I never want to go back to China, but as for countries I really haven’t been to...I guess I’d pick America. Do you know any other languages other than English? Yessssss for the billionth time I know Filipino. I can also understand a wee bit of Spanish as long as there is context available. Do you lock your door when you are in your house? Sometimes. There are times I don’t bother because it’s safe here and there are like three guards roaming around all day. What is larger - your book or dvd collection? DVD. I’m into movies more now, but there was a period in my childhood up until early adolescence that I strove to collect as many books as I can. What job do you think deserves to be paid higher? Teachers. What was the last spontaneous thing you did? Katreen, Gab, and I hung out last night, and we initially just planned dinner at this wings place. But we didn’t take long there, and it had been only 6 PM when we finished so we went to like a couple more restaurants and visited several stores too. One of the best Fridays I’ve had so far :) You get a call at 2am - your first thought is: Must be just Gab having trouble sleeping.

look at me, posting weekly. its a great day. i went outside and read my book. did some hands-on DIY stuff which always makes me feel good. my favorite candle is lit next to me (its balsam + cedar. i love earthy or musky scents) and im just in such a good mood. my cousin is in a better place mentally and so am i. him being happy makes me happy. this is such a good feeling.

also, i think i mentioned my fast i’m doing? i’m down TEN POUNDS! i mean, i know it doesn’t matter to you because you’re a good boy who cares more about the inside than the outside (which is a good thing) but i gained a lot of weight from stress- 10 pounds actually. so i’m back to where i was, and i am looking GOOD rn. and i’m only on day 6 of my cleanse. 3 days to go! i look better, my skin, my stomach (my waist has dropped a half inch already! which officially puts me at a size 2 pant! i was a size 7 in high school, so this is seriously huge)

i also applied for some more agencies today. there’s one i rly want to apply for but they need profile pictures from specific angles that i dont have. i’m not expecting anything from these agencies because i know not a lot of agencies will sponsor an E6 visa but that’s my only way back to korea that doesn’t involve teaching or being a flight attendant that travels there once a week (which don’t sound too bad, but i’d rather be there in entertainment)

i also got a mini promotion today. well, two. i was promoted to NOT WORKING AT MY JOB ANYMORE GOD BLESS AMERICA i worked my last shift on friday. now i can focus on these 20 credit hours in school and get straight A’s like i did last term. 3.61 GPA now but it’s all upwards from here. but my other mini promotion, the main one. Your girl got to be the LEADER of the LifeChurch online host team today. Pretty sure I was the youngest person to ever be given that job. My current team leader is literally old enough to be my grandpa. Love him tho. But he wanted me to lead today because apparently since my service is one of the busiest if not THE busiest (sunday morning yknow) services, and the higher ups noticed that my team freakin rocks so they want us to be trained as leaders so that if needed, we can jump to other services when their leaders can’t make it. So my leader trained me today but I got to lead. It was so stressful but so rewarding. I can’t believe I was chosen to do it. I’ve only been serving for two years as of next month.

Yknow, I had actually managed to push you out of my mind for awhile this week, mainly bc ive been thinking about food. But you been on my mind today. Those tweets from the other day also got me. You seemed so sad. I find it funny that those vaguely depressing tweets happened during the period of time I was actually focused on something other than you. It’s like you knew. And then you were tired of love songs. I ain’t tired of them. I’m tired of being single. I think maybe you are too. Man, I can’t wait to be back in Korea.  Tbh, I have the time and money to go there this summer. I have two months off and a couple thousand dollars saved. but i just dont want to go alone. if a mister someone were to hit up my DMs and be like “yo come on over i gotchu” i would go bc i know mister someone would be there to see me. but that’ll come in time i guess.

i just RSVPed my cousin’s wedding today too, for november. i’m so happy for her but be prepared for me to come back with wedding fever. one day, shan, one day.

i think that’s everything that’s happened though. it’s been very uneventful this week. i only left home to work one shift and to go on a couple walks to go read my book outside. btw i’m almost done with that book and i need a new one so pls recommend one. pls. i need boooooooks.

Go ahead. Be skeptical. Wow. Be as skeptical as you could possibly be and this will still blow you out of the water. The simplicity of the advice is second to none and really gives you no reason to continue to not take action towards improving your business or your life. Gary gives tons of real life examples of how to make changes in your marketing, social presence, daily life, etc. He makes it clear cut and tells you how to be better in business. On top of all the advice, its a really personable book. You learn more about the man behind the show and dig deeper into his mindset/philosophy. Even after watching almost every single #AskGaryVee shooooooow I still learned a lot from this book. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to grow as a business person or human being. The Real Deal Much like his show, Gary Vee carries out this question and answer for aged book with great style and intensity. Gary Vee does it again I have been following Gary Vee's content for some time now. Whether it is his other books or his videos. I find I gain much knowledge from his practitonership. I find he helps stay ahead of treads and also adjust to the current social climate, whatever that may be. This book was especially insightful for me and I would recommend that everyone reads it. Time to LVL Up your business game! This book set my brain on fire! LOL #ASKGARYVEE is a rapid-fire journey through the energetic mind of the author, Gary Vaynerchuck. Gary delves into questions that are on point with the rapidly changing business environment that entrepreneurs of all ages and experience levels are facing today. Social Media, Leadership, Sales, and hundreds of other topics are covered in this book in an awesomely irreverent fashion. I bought this book on Thursday and have churned through all 363 pages absorbing and analyzing the years of experience that Gary shares in this book. Only business book I've read.... I saw Gary years ago on Conan. But it wasn't until this past December when I really found him. I'm a business owner. But not the normal kind. I've built my life on a "do the opposite" type mentality. But I've never been able to put into words what that means. Not only does Gary explain that position, he quickly adds that you need to be true to who you really are. He says he's not interested in anyone following the way he does things, he just explains what has worked for him. But then he systematically gives so many tactical examples of how to execute in a noisy world that to pass up this book is foolish. Buy it. Then buy 7 more and give it to those you care about!!! Better for young person Disappointed in this book. With all the hype about the author I went into this with high expectations. I quit reading it part way through as it is written for a young (just out of high school/college) audience. While not for me, I see how it could be a good read for others. Go to Amazon

Quarterly Goals 2017

I’m in Cuba right now, so I hope this works out. I’m also doing it from my phone so formatting? No

1. Draw and Share that once a week -Uuuh, I didn’t… 2. Get 30 days strike on Memrise -I was at 16 when the WiFi turned off during a session, so it showed that the day had been completed, but then the next day it didn’t show up anymore, meaning I had to start back up at 0 and because that was the second time that happened I was so frustrated I just gave it up. 3. Outline the rest of the series -I didn’t go into nearly as much detail as would have liked. 4. Get H&M to the point where Tae appears -I worked on it but didn’t get that far. 5. Fill the plot holes I noticed in the first draft -I also worked on it, but didn’t complete it. 6. Reorder My Bookshelf -I did, yay, but I also noticed I didn’t have enough space anymore so I’ll need to reorder all the shelves. 7. Finish Student List -I did, omg, thank heavens, that was so much work. 8. Read six books -I read nine (King’s Rising-C.S. Pacat & Graceling-Kristin Cashore & The Refugees-Viet Thanh Nguyen & Trials of Apollo, The Dark Prophecy-Rick Riordan & Queen of Geek-Jen Wilde & Peter Darling-Austin Chant & Rolling In The Deep-Mira Grant & We Are The Ants-Shaun David Hutchinson) I’m also happy that I read some books in other genres than I usually do. 9. Get my French marks up -Success :) 10. Revise Reizar -Done

That makes 5/10 which I count as successful, yay :D

These are the goals for my next quarter:

1. Revise time tables -Because I realised they aren’t working the way I want them to. 2. Reorder all my shelves -As stated above because of lack of space for my books 3. Complete 3 chapters in my Korean book (ignoring the one on Hangul) -Because I have oe and it’s about time I used it. 4. Appear on social media once a week -Because I want to and nothing so far has worked. 5. Read 7 books -Because Boooooooks (Also it’s essecial to being an author) 6. Expand family tree -Because it’s not big enough already (It kinda goes seven generations back and at least five families have at least five children at a time…) 7. Fill the plot holes I noticed in the first draft -Yeah, I need to get onto that. 8. Add 200 notecards to the outline -I need something specific to work with. 9. Get H&M to the point where Tae appears -Still. 10. Cook something I’ve never tried before -Because why the heck not?

I also want one of the books to not be in English, so yeah…
