Guys, @ginnyw-potter just gave me the details on her Hinny Dirty Dancing AU idea and when I tell you that you need it, that's an understatement.
I told her I'd start a petition to make it happen, and she said I wouldn't (as we all know, it is unwise to dare a Ginny Stan) so if you need a Dirty Dancing AU (you do), like or reblog this post.

Review - Caraval, Stephanie Garber
So I read and finished Caraval, a book that I had been recommended and had heard lots of good things about. To be honest, it was pretty disappointing.
The world building, or at least the Caraval itself, is beautiful. I love the descriptions of it, I love the magic woven into all of the island, I love how rich it feels. Unfortunately, it’s a world that feels heavily based on The Night Circus, but unlike The Night Circus, its massively let down by its characters.
Scarlet is irritating, and whilst I understand that there is supposed to be an element of trauma survivor leads to trauma responses, none of it lands, and she comes across as whiny and shallow. Tella’s manipulation is supposed to be clever, but also doesn’t land. Julian is little more than a pretty boy, and his speech about how he is a bad person but will try to do better, just doesn’t work, he doesn’t stick to it, and it feels very cliched.
There are hints of interesting and fun background characters, such as Aiko, but they are not around long enough to properly get into them. Given the rest of the developed characters, this may be for the best.
Scarlet and Julian’s relationship follows a typical YA pattern, but not in an at all compelling way. All that he has going for him is that he is hot. There is a moment where Scarlet’s father cuts Julian’s face, and Scarlet thinks that watching that hurts so much more than watching hi, hurt her sister. This ranking of trauma’s, in which the love interest she met three days earlier is more impactful than her history of abuse endured with her sister, seems absurd.
However, by far my biggest issue with the book is the ending. I think that walking back the deaths and ending the book on “Oh it was all a part of a larger game, no one is really dead” is a poor choice. It takes away the impact of the deaths, it removes any consequences from the story, and it really feels like a weak writing choice. Either kill a character, or don’t, but don’t walk back a choice because you don’t feel capable of committing to it.
