the entire concept of "if I was alive in the middle ages I'd get burnt for being a witch" does make me mad because if you were born in the late medieval period you would not have been behaving like this. Like I'm sorry you being a #girlboss on twitter doesn't mean you'd go around being that insufferable in the 1500s. You'd be the one holding the pitchfork and you damn well know it

JK Rowling’s books are a building. And she stopped after creating shitty, waterlogged, deeply structurally unsound bluebrints and half the scaffolding. Then left it to the elements (aka her Twitter), damaging it nearly beyond repair.
And the fandom looked at this, and put on hard hats. And they tore down that scaffolding, and took those blueprints and changed it into something that would work, and they built the most beautiful building you’ve ever seen.
The building JK Rowling designed was deeply flawed, it would never pass inspection, it would collapse under its own weight and lack of structural integrity within seconds of being built. The aesthetic design was tragic and hideous and offensive. But the fans looked at all of that, and said to themselves, “this building is fucked up, it will never be good if left like this, and everything about it is terrible and makes zero sense. But goddamnit, I have trauma and I can fix it because it must be done and no one else will.”
JK Rowling may have designed that original building. She may have had the initial idea. She may have built that unfinished scaffolding. She may have drawn those blueprints.
But this building is no longer JK Rowling’s.
#harry potter#jk rowling#this rant brought to you by someone who can and will go to jail for aggravated assault of jk rowling#people say her worldbuilding is good even if the books aren’t#newsflash: a lot of the best worldbuilding in Harry Potter is just headcannons we have forgotten are not in he books#we took her scraps and we made them great#but to her the scraps are enough. to her the scraps are what are great#when in reality the scraps are the part that stop Harry Potter from being great#in reality the characters are one dimensional#in reality hogwarts never faces consequences for the child endangerment#in reality dumbledore is a manipulative and evil fraud#in reality the house elves are abused and only dobby is saved#in reality Snape is an incel and abuses children#in reality dumbledore knowingly left Harry to be abused by his aunt and uncle and sent him back every summer#in reality remus lupin never went to see Harry as a child and never spoke to him after third year beyond the order of the Phoenix#in reality Sirius only broke out of prison to kill worm tail and even if he cared for Harry he stayed in prison for twelve years#never trying to escape#and he may have had reasons but we do not know them#we never get depth for the characters who deserve it#we get depth for an incel of a potions teacher#Draco Malfoy is one of the most fleshed out characters and he’s still a piece of cardboard it just has shitty crayon scribbles of colour#we think the character have personality but it’s just flashes of it filled in by the great acting in the movies#we think the books have worldbuilding and fleshed out character arcs when really it’s just nostalgia and headcannons we think are real#THE BUILDING IS NOT JK ROWLING’S. THE BUILDING IS OURS.#randum thots

Anyone else still alive out there? It’s been a week...
After so, so, SO long of just craving to hear Jimin’s voice ... his vocals in a song of his own making ... we have all of these songs with his voice only, and hearing the deep house remix of Like Crazy is like a dream come true for me. Listen to that clip...
Every ad lib, every aching note is like bathing my eardrums in silky ... silk ... just Jimin caressing the auditory cortex in my brain...so sexy. Every time I listen to it I fall deeper and deeper.
Yoongi said Jimin's voice is neutral and I took that to mean gender neutral but I'm not a vocal expert so I'm not sure if that is what he meant. All I know is my ears are not the same after this deep house remix. I’m not the same. Is this what they mean when they say life changing?
Tumblr media
In other news...
Do y’all feel like we scored a touchdown this week? Maybe that analogy doesn’t resonate with those of y’all who don’t live in the U.S. but let me illustrate:
Tumblr media
Or that could be a victory sign... sorta... in a Jungkookie kind of way. Either way, SCORE!
Gotta hand it to Jungkook to gate keep his own body all these years. I respect that. If anyone is gonna make money off those abs, its gonna be Jeon Jungkook and no one else. No wonder he was doing that hardcore ab workout at Coach Tommy's during that one and only live we'll ever get from there (thanks to assholes).
Tumblr media
You know, at first these fashion ambassadorships were confusing me. It’s because I was not thinking it through. We know the guys have to enlist soon because they keep talking about being together in 2025. Why would multi-billion dollar fashion houses contract with them not knowing how the next two years will pan out?
Because I was too caught up in the time frame of the scramble to get their solo stuff released, the promos involved and enlistment getting closer and closer I could not see the obvious: In this time before enlistment, ad campaigns will be produced that will run through next year, keeping the members at top of mind. Brilliant. Now we know why Kookie said he has to take care of his body for the next 365 days.
They can’t do anything while enlisted, so let these upscale fashion houses do the work and promote their brand/images for them, riding their marketability into next year and we will get to see them being their classy-ass selves from time to time in Dior, Tiffany, Celine, Valentino, Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton... Calvin Klein... It’s a win-win-win.
The successes this year of Hobi, RM, Jin and Jimin’s work so far is adding to that marketability. We are one year and 9 months away from 2025. We’ll see how it all plays out eventually I guess.

"there's no basis or case to be made for will having powers" okay then genuinely please explain any of the following now after watching season four:
why does the upside down look like hawkins and is presumably stuck on the day will arrived despite the fact that vecna was there first and has been residing there this whole time? if vecna was capable of reshaping the world, as he's stated he wants to do, why hasn't he done it in his own world? why is he so intent on seeking out the person for whom time apparently stopped if it's all just coincidence? if will didn't do that and he doesn't have powers, then why didn't time progress or the setting change once the teenagers got there? why was time only influenced by will and will alone if he has no powers whatsoever?
how was will able to call joyce multiple times? the only person we've seen so far be able to do something similar is eleven when she would channel what she heard through the radio. electricity doesn't work in the upside down, so how did will do that? why did it cause a shock and ruin the phone, the same way that the radio went up in flames when eleven did it, if he doesn't have powers?
how did he manage to wake joyce up at one point? (it could've been her imagination, but the show made it pretty clear that joyce had been right about everything the entire time even though everyone thought she was crazy, and will was wearing the same outfit but he looked and sounded distressed + exhausted like he may have been while hiding in his upside down version of the house.)
how was will able to see his mother and guide her with the lights to the place he was hiding?
how was will able to see the letters she wrote on the wall?
how was will able to light up the lights that fast and sometimes simultaneously? especially with the lights that were on the ceiling? the way he communicated with joyce isn't totally similar to the way the teens communicated with the party in season four. he's too short to reach the ceiling and he doesn't have elasti-arms or super speed, so he couldn't have been touching that many lights that fast all by himself with his own hands. if anything, it's more similar to the training exercise brenner had the lab kids do, because they didn't need to touch the lights (obviously) to control them. so, how do you explain that if he has no powers?
how did he acquire true sight before his possession? the doctors thought it was ptsd and all in his head, but just like with joyce, we come to learn that will had been right the entire time. the mind flayer was real and it was coming for them all and eventually it did. how did he know that? how could he have had such knowledge before it ever melded minds and bodies with him? no other powerless human could do that, so how do you explain it?
if will is truly a powerless human being, why did vecna hunt him down? we know that vecna stalks his prey before he strikes. we know that "the monster" followed will from mike's house all the way to the shed where they vanished without a trace. we then saw it stalk will again and eventually possess him. will said that vecna wanted to kill everyone else, but not him. why? we know that vecna doesn't care about people. so what did will have that he wanted so bad? what was it about will that made him more valuable to vecna—a self-perceived god among useless, pitiful, and brutish men—alive than dead? what was it about will, a supposed powerless and normal human boy, that made vecna want to spare him and use him? if he wanted access to the lab, weapons, or tools that could bring down entire nations and rendered millions around the globe defenseless to his attack, then he wouldn't have picked a sweet twelve year old boy who lives a tiny little life in a tiny little town who just wants to hang with his friends and play games. unless... he was the key to achieving his plans? but according to this argument that will is just a normal boy, why is it then that vecna did all of that if will isn't capable of anything?
additionally, we know that gates are opened with a psychic connection. when the psychic connection was made in that shed, will entered the upside down. there, he was hunted for a week. why did the demogorgons kill and eat everyone else, but never will? why did they only carry him to the library aka the source of it all? why didn't they treat him roughly or eat him like they did all of the others? will didn't suffer any serious damage from the upside down, so he couldn't have been "dead" for long when his parents found him. why was it different with him? why did he get special treatment even in hell if he's just a boy?
why does will still sense the creatures of the upside down even after he's been exorcised? how is it that the psychic connection is still there? how is he still able to know what vecna is feeling, the kind of state that he's in, and what it is that he's planned? how does he have this connection still even though he shouldn't if he's Just Some Guy?
if will was just a normal, powerless boy... then why did a self-proclaimed god try so hard to recruit him more than once? why did it hunt only him? why did this god want to kill everyone but him? why did this god deem him more worthy and useful in life and at his side than in death? why did it seek him out and not eleven, a girl who actually has powers, powers that were once stronger than his own even and that he clearly wanted as we saw in s3? why is the upside down stuck on the day will went missing, despite it clearly being inhabited by other creatures that we assume to be more powerful than him? why is will going to be central to season five, the season where it will all come to a close and we'll be learning about the upside down and more, if... he's Just Some Guy that had to brave it for a week and that's it? why did season four (and the show overall, but said outright and explicitly here in 4x09) reiterate that it has always been vecna and that will has always been his victim/in his sights/connected to him? why did vecna choose will byers, who some of you claim to be Just Some Boy, of literally all people on planet fucking earth to achieve his plans?
vecna stalked will. he hunted him. and when his plans were foiled, he tried again. when he couldn't do it his way, he sought to kill eleven so that he could absorb her powers (s3). and now, they're back in each other's heads. the silver cat fed when blue met yellow in the west, but they're back now and we've been told that this is only the beginning. if will is just another powerless human, then what is the point of any of that? how do you explain everything that we've seen? how do you explain the choices these characters have made and continue to make? how do you explain away the connection that they keep drawing our eyes to? the connection that shocked the duffers and made them ask jamie if he'd seen the scripts when he brought it up (that it all goes back to will, how everything and everyone is connected to will)? the connection that they themselves are saying we'll see clearly in season five?
that isn't even scratching the surface of all the obvious instances where they make it clear that will is vecna's narrative foil, because that would make this already gargantuan post thirty miles longer.
they wouldn't have done everything that they've done over the span of multiple seasons now if it was just for nothing.
it doesn't make sense if will is just some normal kid and a random fluke in the master plan. the writers could've had vecna pick anyone. they could have made it so that will's connection was severed or lessened, but they didn't. they could've admitted that will was just a meaningless casualty, but they didn't because he wasn't. it wasn't a random animal that took will, he wasn't possessed for shits and giggles, and he doesn't continue to have that psychic connection for no reason. they don't tell us that nothing is a coincidence and they don't have the characters themselves remind us that they need will just for it to be... nothing.
will knows what's coming, what's happening, and the condition of the person who will do it all. why have him experience all of that, and even be able to in the first place, if he's... powerless? how do you even explain the connection in the first place? no other character, not even the ones cursed by vecna, are able to do what he's done. how is that not considered a power? and how do you write off the hours of content that you've witnessed as nothing?
clearly, at some point you have to realize that something is going on, no? like, you don't even have to take my (one-too-many) word(s) for it. jamie and the duffers themselves have been saying it over and over again. so... honestly, what's not clicking?
#like i just genuinely don't get it lol#vecna is a big bad and you think he hunted this tiny nerdy little twelve year old for shits n giggles?#you think the writers are making will a main point in their final season and are saying that we're going to learn so much more about#why the upside down is stuck on the day he went missing just to be like 'oh yeah jk it's nothing LOL'#you think that vecna jus went 'lol sure why not' and picked a child with no connections no powers no nothing just because?!?!#like literally WHAT#VECNA LITERALLY HATES HUMANS HE DOESNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THEM SO WHY DID HE NOT WANT TO KILL WILL?!?!?!#why did he value will more than EVERYONE else!?!?!? IF HE'S JUST NORMAL?!?!?!?!#literally explain it to me genuinely bc i don't understand lol this is season five that we're headed into#i didn't think will had powers beyond his beast sense bc we weren't given any indication otherwise#but now that we know there was A Guy planning everything that it wasn't just random chance but A Person who is manipulative and cunning#and deceptive and ambitious and who is behind EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE SEEN SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING#and now that we know how the lights work and that that realm is stuck on the night will went missing and that gates are formed with psychic#connections and that will STILLLLLLLLL knows what he feels etc etc i just . I Just Don't Get It i don't get how you can think#there's nothing there? especially when the creators of the show are telling you he'll be a major focus? IN THEIR LAST SEASON?!#but no im sure its nothing. will did all those inexplicable things and the mastermind big bad chased him and wanted to spare him and use#him for shits and giggles or because the cuteness aggression was too much lol it means Nothing At All obviously#crazy together was in their auditions they Knew what they were going to do with will they're telling us that it MEANS something that the#upside down is STUCK on the day WILL went missing will spent all of season one trying desperately to go home he went to his house and his#castle to hide and joyce said that emotions can make time go really fast or really slow and one day vecna said Enough and stopped the cloc#k himself he created his own powers the duffers TOLD USSSS that it MEANS SOMETHING THAT THE UPSIDE IS STUCK ON THAT DAY#AND THAT WILL IS GOING TO BE A BIG FOCUS AND WE'LL BE GETTING ANSWERS AND THAT WILL AND VECNA HAVE HISTORY#WILL DID EVERYTHING RIGHT TO TRY AND ESCAPE BUT NOTHING WORKED AND THE FOUR VICTIMS IN S4 DID THE SAME THING#THAT WAS VECNA IN THE SHED WILL HAD A CONNECTION WITH HIM BEFORE HE WAS EVER POSSESSED WILL WAS STALKED THE SAME WAY THAT THE VICTIMS WERE#STALKED WILL IS ABLE TO DO THINGS THAT OTHER CHARACTERS CANNOT INCLUDING ELEVEN HE HAS EXPERIENCES THAT ARE ENTIRELY DISTINCT AND HE HAS#VERY SPECIFIC AND OBVIOUS PARALLELS TO VECNA BECAUSE HE IS THE LIGHT WIZARD TO HIS DARK WIZARD#WHAT IS NOT CLICKING !!!! am i missing something. do u think they would do all of that in EVERY SINGLE SEASON for it to mean nothing?#they're going to start and end the show with will but don't worry he's Just Some Guy? bro. duuuuude my GUY !!!!#mine

Rewatching DS9 and VOY has just made me want to do episode rewrites but with the TOS crew. So what about Voyager s2 e25 Resolutions but with TOS mckirk or AOS spones. This is a kinda long post and just my random thoughts so heres a keep reading
So Jim and Bones are stuck on a planet while infected with some virus that doesn't effect them while on the surface. And the Enterprise then has to leave because of some reason. So Spock is left in charge like Tuvok was and has to deal with the fact that the Captain and CMO have been left behind and with the growing resentment towards him even though Kirk ordered them to leave.
Also like the idea of Bones being busy researching how to cure them while Jim quickly grows to enjoy the easy living and maybe for once in his life the ship isn't a burden on him. While bones is losing his mind because being stuck on a planet with nothing but researching this one cure is like Bones' worse nightmare. (like i know most people would think Bones would be like Chakotay but its my episode rewrite and i can do what i want). Also the idea of Jim wanting to build them a log cabin extension is very fun. Also since neither of them have any romantic attachments they actually do something about the romantic tension and then have to deal with that when they get back on the ship.
Though I'm not sure if they would have to ask for help from some enemy or Bones would just figure out a cure. Maybe Bones finds a cure and then isn't sure what to do since Jim seems so happy and he doesn't want to ruin that or maybe he thinks if they go back to the ship Jim will just pretend what happened on the planet didn't. And then a day later the ship comes back with a cure and he has to deal with the fact that he didn't instantly tell Jim about it. And of course Jim finds out and hes conflicted because he wants to be angry at Bones for not telling him right away but hes also angry that the cure was found at all so its a whole mess.
Or if it was AOS it would be Bones and Spock who are left behind mainly so it would mirror the fact that Janeway has a partner back home so spones just have awkward weird romantic tension. (not sure if this would have mckirk as well or just spuhura) Though in this version nothing would actually happen on the planet cos no cheating thanks, also not enough time would have past where they actually think theres no going back. Not sure either Spock or Bones would be like Chakotay, they'd both be super focused on finding a cure. They would also have to deal with this fallout on the ship but it would be in a very different way than TOS mckirk. Maybe if theres no mckirk it would end up with mccoy/spock/uhura in some configuration. Though if mckirk was already a couple it would stay the two different couples. lmao or maybe mckirk comes out of it since jim realised how much he actually missed Bones. i dont know this is post is turning into a mess
So its Jim and Nyota who have to deal with leaving the people they care most about behind. As i think there would be less resentment from the crew to deal with. I'm sure the med crew would miss their boss but they would have less power to make a fuss about it.
But theres still the fact that they're not as far away from starfleet as Voyager was and why the ship would leave but like why should that stop me?
I mean it could also just be AOS mckirk on the planet but for some reason i'm more drawn to the TOS version in this instance

How Obi-wan truly came to understand Anakin
After the fall of the Republic and Obi-wan's exile, he sheds the hubris of the Jedi Order by returning to the source (Tatooine) and essentially lives a life duplicate to that of young Anakin Skywalker.
The hubris of the Order, remarked upon by Yoda himself, has been accused of distancing the Jedi from true compassion and clouding their connection to the Force as the Jedi formed an attachment to the outcome of the Clone Wars/Senate- and can be extrapolated to their mishandling of young!Anakin as their ward, and alleged Chosen One. Anakin struggled to adapt to Jedi culture because he left to train at a late age and thus retained a deep attachment to his mother.
This behavior did not mesh with Jedi teachings, and the Council made no exception for Anakin's unique circumstance (or Shmi's remarkable power and contribution to the galaxy as Anakin's mother/protector/first teacher) and Anakin's need for her was neglected by the Council. This is the first seed sewn of his malcontent and instability.
On Tatooine, Obi-wan returns to the start of it all - and it is poetric how in his new exiled life he walks the path of young!Anakin, essentially developing the perspective the Order lacked when it first took Anakin to Coruscant by re-living young Anakin's life in an act of extreme humility.
This is what Obi-wan was doing all those years on Tatooine - his exile was his education, and he viewed this education as essential to understanding Vader and eventually defeating or bringing Vader back from the Dark. He wasn't "doing nothing in a cave" - he was deeply remorseful for what he came to understand as a Jedi folly which contributed to not only the fall of Anakin, but a microcosm of a fall of society at large. A lack of compassion and attachment to a belief above all else. In the Order's case: the Jedi Way - above all else. Obi-wan's humility on Tatooine is really touching, and it is here he becomes the finest version of his character.
It is no coindence, narratively, that Obi-wan ends up on Tatooine.
1. Like young Anakin, Obi-wan lives on the desolate, hopeless planet - lightyears from the former hub of the galaxy where Obi-wan and the Jedi had every resource at their fingertips in the center of the Republic's capitol. On Tatooine, there is nothing but what one clings to - and so Obi-wan comes to understand Anakin's - valid - fear of loss.
2. Obi-wan, through Luke, grows an attachment to family (Anakin's family, of all things!). He sees that being left alone on Tatooine invites terrible danger - as proven by Shmi's fate. Further proven by Obi-wan's constant fear for & surveillance of Luke on the harsh desert world. And even further proven by his own isolation during the Purge, and thus vulnerability. And so, Obi-wan comes to understand Anakin's attachment to loved ones and his persistent worry about his mother who was left alone on the planet.
3. Obi-wan does the work of a lowly laborer or slave (as Anakin did) and lives in poverty (as Anakin did). In this way, he comes to understand Anakin's drive to possess - which was not at, its genesis, a toxic or Dark Sided trait. It was merely a realistic one of a young enslaved boy- possess the means to survive, the money to survive, the goods to survive - in a place no one will save you. No Jedi ("I didn't actually come here to free slaves", Qui gon once announced with levity).
5. Obi-wan develops respect and sorrow for Shmi. In the comics Obi-wan frequently visits Shmi's grave to express his guilt and regret to her. He learns to love this woman, as Anakin did. To see her as a source of comfort, absolution, and humility. As Anakin did. Obi-wan never had a mother (only Qui Gon - a father figure), and Anakin never had a father (only Shmi - his mother). It is one way their differences as people can be viewed. Through Shmi (mother figure), Obi-wan learns to understand his lack of perspective, just as Anakin's was warped by Sidious (his father figure).
5. And finally, Obi-wan lives an isolated life with no hope of rescue or promise of a future (as young Anakin and Shmi did before Qui Gon appeared). Which explains Anakin's drive to achieve greatness, his pride in his abilities, his awe of power - borne of having nothing, fearing he doesn't deserve his abilities, and eventually becoming a slave to his abilities themselves when he turned to Vader. But on Tatooine, after the fall of the Order, Obi-wan learns what it is like to have no power, to feel powerless in that sense, at last.
Obi-wan's exile is essentially a huge growth moment for Obi-wan's character and only in his exile on Tatooine does he truly come to understand (and perhaps appreciate) his former apprentice-turned-partner and what made Anakin so different from the other Jedi, and eventually so pained, torn, and tormented.
Obi-wan becomes the only one to truly, fully understand what made Anakin unable to completely comply with the code as the other Jedi did. Other Jedi who had few - if any - memories of their former lives and the struggles, and tragic fates, of non-Jedi. In this way, Obi-wan develops a full well-rounded understanding of all that had happened in the galaxy. When he later in life refers to Vader as "only a Master of Evil" this is what he means... Anakin doesn't level up to Obi-wan's humility and understanding until Luke saves him.
It is Anakin who narratively exemplifies the pride of the Jedi (where they failed in their teachings and compassion & so he fell to Sidious) and the pride of the Sith (where the Dark failed when Anakin turns back to Luke).
Obi-wan, who once in his youth had haughtily and flippantly referred to young slave Anakin as "another pathetic lifeform" comes face to face with the reality of the galaxy as a citizen, not a Jedi. Young Anakin's life.
Rhyming poetry. That's karma- er, the Force at work!
And so, Obi-wan comes to truly understand the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, the folly of the Jedi, and the weakness of the Sith (why he comes to see Luke/Leia as Vader's savior and sacrifices himself for this).
Obi-wan learns all of this and he becomes a True Jedi. He lets go of all of his attachments (including his attachment to the Jedi themselves - "I was once a Jedi Knight") and he does this because he lives the life his friend once did.
The life he sees as his lost partner, Anakin's, final lesson for him.

I'm getting back into reading scifi short stories like I did in high school,, I love reading short stories as opposed to novels for a lot of reasons, but I've unfortunately (fortunately?) forgotten a lot of them so it's basically like I'm rediscovering them all :D

that was a lie my parents won’t ruin THIS episode by coming home. unfortunately i will probably watch a third episode
#well. ruin is a strong word. i just don’t like how they don’t perceive stuff i like#ignore the second don’t#i’m the baby of the family so everything i like is automatically juvenile and it doesn’t help that i like a lot of things that are juvenile#but like no one in this house can conceptualize ‘family’ media. like if there’s no curse words or sex it’s just For Kids#like get serious y’all just watched harry potter with my sister and no one has ever acted like she’s childish for liking that shit#like i KNOW it’s just because of misogyny 85% of the time because especially in the fantasy genre girl’s stories are seen as more childish#simply due to being about and being written for girls. where boys stories get to be gender neutral because they’re the default#and then because i’m me and 80% of everything i enjoy is about women. the other 20% doesn’t make enough of an impression to not be lumped in#so even though THIS show isn’t about women it’s still something I’M watching and it’s fantasy and it doesn’t have curse words or sex so by#default it’s girly and childish. and that sucks already but sucks even worse because now my family is gonna go about their lives thinking#that bbc merlin is girl stuff. and therefore even remotely feminist. which makes me want to kill myself because i’ve never heard something#less true in my life. like YES i am the annoying girly feminist girl’s girl of this family YES i watch bbc merlin NO that show is not that!!#anyway. that’s annoying. i love how it’s only not stupid to like something in the fantasy genre when it’s harry potter or game of thrones.#like that’s awesome.#we should all kill ourselves. but before that we should publicly execute jk rowling and george rr martin#like i firmly believe jkr should be killed but not for the terf stuff just because she made up the most annoying franchise ever.#beth.txt
