We talk about achieving 'LGBTQ+ equality', but around the world, LGBTQ+ people are still suffering discrimination and extreme violence. How do we solve this urgent problem, allowing queer people everywhere the opportunity to thrive?
In We Can Do Better Than This, 35 voices explore this question. Through deeply moving stories and provocative new arguments on safety and visibility, dating and gender, care and community, they map new global frontiers in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
Pabllo Vittar pleads for the end of hate murders, Olly Alexander champions inclusive sex education in schools, and Beth Ditto calls for a revolution in representation. Elsewhere, Mykki Blanco sets out a vision to end HIV stigma, Owen Jones demands improved LGBTQ+ mental health services, and Travis Alabanza imagines a world without gender policing.
Moving from the UK and USA to Russia, Bangladesh and beyond, this is a guide to understanding the crucial issues facing LGBTQ+ people today. But it's also a passionate call to action and an important manifesto for how - together - we can start to create a better future.
Edited by journalist and author Amelia Abraham, with writing from:

Still Life Notes and Questions for Myself
Still Life Notes
In lighting terms, think of Jan Davidsz de Heem (’Still Life with Ham, Lobster and Fruit’) and Juan Sanchez Cotan (’Still Life with Melon, Cabbage, Quince and Cucumber’)
Figure out whether or not you want to use ‘Motivated Lighting’ or keep the lighting consistent in each image.
Not everything has to do with food, think about objects that your characters may possess or use in their life.
For one character you could think about the table falling over, or the objects on the table falling over.
You could include a hand in one of the image: Eg. In the cannibal image, a hand could be squeezing a piece of meat covered in blood…
One of the images could be two lovers losing their virginity. It could be two people now, or it could be say Romeo and Juliet… (Like in Jo Ann Callis’ ‘Cheap Thrills’ series from the lecture)
Think of some dreams you have had and incorporate the idea of the surreal/dreamlike in?
Colour matches might be an interesting way of approaching some if not all. How do the colours of the objects relate to one another? Does this motivate the lighting or the tone of the scene?
Do the scenes look carefully constructed or are they suppose to look messy and chaotic — The characters nature should decide this.
Look towards metaphors and symbolism, much of what you want to say is going to be through objects/subjects so use them to ‘play out’ the narrative of your scene/story/character
Think of texture — Maisie Cousins ‘eroticises’ her objects by displaying them with shiny/slippery textures and appearances. Immediately there is a sexual connotation entering the frame.
Flower’s could play an interesting roll. When they are plucked and put in a case they have a very short life span. By capturing them, you are immortalising something that usually doesn’t live for a long period of time.
Think of the commercial vs. realistic — Does the character care about material things or is their being more to do with instinct and being.
Are they neat or messy?
Are they Loud or quiet?
Below are some examples of what raised these questions and some visual references for myself as I being to construct and shoot my project:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For these two above, I am looking at the way once can construct lighting and also arrange a scene similarly to a painting. Also, Richon’s inclusion of the hanging book is a note on how to communicate values, ideas and comments/opinions in a still life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For these two, I am thinking in terms of lighting. Core’s image struck me in the way the red of the meat against the whites creates a very textual and graphic response. In de Heem’s I am thinking about the grandness and over indulgence of the scene and this may play in to one of my characters nicely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Letinsky’s images struck me in the pleasantness of their tone. They reminded me of Tillman’s in a few ways, one being the seemingly random arrangement of things, as if they were thoughtlessly put there. Even more so, I was struck by the delicate light (more so in the bottom two) and they way that it affects the colours in the peaches and cantaloupe.
Tumblr media
This is a reference to think about how I might want to use movement in my image. Do I want spillage of a moment before everything breaks or is bruised or ends up in a place we wouldn't want it to?

Tillman family, Roaring Heights - #28
After reading the morning paper, Tybalt worked on opening their wedding gifts and writing thank you notes to the guests who witnessed their marriage and took part in their celebration.
Later in the afternoon, the matriarch of the household Juliet invited the whole household out for a Summer Festival outing.
The afternoon was really warm, bright and vibrant - really perfect for the summer festivities happening in the park, like water balloon fights and hotdog-eating contests.
But for Juliet, it’s not enough for her to achieve the golden tan she’s struggling to have in a long time. So, she went inside the spray tan booth. It turned out to be really pretty & smooth.
The next day, the young couple got more deliveries of wedding gifts, and since Sierra was the first to wake up, she wrote the thank you notes for the senders. While doing that, she’s already imagining and planning in her head their perfect honeymoon and vacation, but sadly, they wouldn’t be able to do it just yet. They got new jobs and in turn, fewer vacation leaves... for now.
-----------------------
This is the last gameplay post for this household, for now. Thanks again for reading & interacting with my posts!
The next posts would just be short ones. After this household, I’m jumping between households in my town (I know, I’m not consistent & I just play however I want) LOL I hope you all still stick with me 😁 Thanks again!

[TRAILER] Shonda Rhimes’ (@shondarhimes) New Series, “Still Star-Crossed” Debuts…and Tanks…
When one thinks of writer Shonda Rhimes, black excellence, amazing story lines, and creative genius all comes to mind. Being the mind behind such successful series such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Scandal” grants you that level of prestige and power. Like any new series of Shonda’s, fans and newbies alike expect a certain level of pizzazz and her last Shondaland…

Tillman family, Roaring Heights - #26
Sierra couldn’t help but cry tears of joy after the ceremony. Their dreams since they were in high school have now become a reality.
Following the romantic and dreamlike wedding, the guests and the couple went straight to the cake, buffet table and the dance floor, accompanied by some cheery music from the radio and the talented groom himself.
Then, after playing his guitar for the guests, he walked to his beautiful bride and wife to have their first dance as a married couple.

Tillman family, Roaring Heights - #25
After the food and venue preparations, the wedding begun.
Since they couldn’t agree on a specific theme, the young couple just decided to dress in their best formal selves.
The city view nestled in warm greenery and golden pink hour sunset provided a perfect backdrop for their wedding ceremony. It just added more magic to the already magical wedding these two were having.
After declaring vows and exchanging wedding rings, witnessed by their close family (including the recently resurrected Consort Capp - thanks to some witch’s reanimation prank), Tybalt Capp and Sierra Tillman - Capp are now husband and wife.

Tillman family, Roaring Heights - #14
Tybalt arrived at the Tillman mansion with his mother Cordelia, who was invited by Juliet. Donald was kind enough to prepare and grill some hotdogs for the guests and the whole household.
While the young people were lounging and diving at the pool, Juliet and Cordelia were catching up on some witch coven stuff and each others’ lives.
Later, Tybalt and Sierra went inside and had their own moment together. She asked her beau if he wanted to stay over for the night, and he gladly accepted her invitation.
The next morning, Juliet was the first to wake up, and she started her day with doing some drafting and sketching for her design job.

Tillman family, Roaring Heights - #27
After the dance of the newly-married Sierra and Tybalt, Juliet walked to them and had another heartfelt conversation with the groom and her son-in-law, welcoming him again to the family, and this time, it’s truly official.
The guests slowly left the Tillman home due to the late evening hour, and that also signaled the household to retreat to their bedrooms and prepare for sleep.
Sierra and Tybalt were the exception here, of course. It was their wedding night, and she prepared a special lingerie for that special night.
----------------
Tybalt was the first to wake up the next morning. He started his day by reading the newspaper, and he didn’t expect their wedding to make headlines. The journalists described their wedding as one of the grandest this town has ever had in the recent years.
