should i try LD'ing to shift? LD'ing is cool and all but tbh all i really want is to just shift. but since 2020 i havent even minishifted so should i try LD'ing? my worry is that even if i do LD what if i still dont shift. since 2020 ive had a few LDs where i tried shifting but when i went into the portal the sensations got crazy and it woke me up. but thats the most "progress" ive had. should i pursue this route or is that adding an extra step/more effort needed to try to induce LDs :(

Babe... I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I don't think your mindset toward shifting is very healthy right now.

You shouldn't try to lucid dream if you're only doing it out of desperation. If you don't like ludid dreaming or you don't really want to do it, then you shouldn't. Of course, if you are genuinely interested in it, then go ahead! But really, whatever method you use to shift, should be done because you genuinely want to do it. If you don't want to lucid dream, then don't.

Take some time to think about it.

If you know that you genuinely want to continue lucid dreaming and shifting through lucid dreams, then I would suggest these things:

Make sure you're calm and collected before you attempt the shift. Do some deep breathing, go to your happy place, meditate, do whatever you have to do to chill out!

You can definitely try portals again, but if they're just not working for you, you don't have to force it. Instead, you can try visualizing your DR, affirming that you're shifting/you've shifted, going through a door, or making your portal on the ground and falling through it. You can also try "falling asleep" in your lucid dream and affirming that you'll wake up in your DR! Basically, go with the flow and don't be afraid to experiment!

Practice going to "different" lucid dreams with portals. So instead of immediately shifting to your DR, cycle through different dreams and then shift.

Spend some time in your lucid dream first! I know it can be very tempting to immediately shift, but some people have had more success when they waited a little beforehand. Try doing something you like in your dream first for 30 minutes or so (or however long you like), and then shift.

On the other hand, if you've found that you don't want to lucid dream, I really suggest taking the time to figure out how you do like to shift. And I'm not necessarily talking about "successful" shifts here, I just mean which methods have you tried that you actually enjoyed. Some people like the raven method, some like the estelle method, some like sats, while others like simple intention. Figure out what you like to do and focus on that!! Don't try to force yourself to try out all these different kinds of methods out of desperation. Remember that the methods don't matter, you do.

The spotlight never turns off, assistants hurring to set a mako-dripping body on top of the examination table, limbs encased in shackles to prevent excessive struggling, bare skin hastily washed down to rid of the crystallization forming where mako had begun to dry.

Although… perhaps the shackles were unnecessary with this one, considering that this particular subject had succumbed to mako poisoning, but no precautions could ever be too many when they were spearheading a brand new experiment under the professor's direct involvement.

Didn't they hear him? Were they ignoring him? Had they no conscience?

Had he spoken anything at all?

The eyes that occasionally glanced at the slab on which he struggled would flinch away, betraying what conscience they might have - all great progress demands sacrifices, and no one seemed willing to speak up.

If they hoped for a promotion, now would be the chance to prove their worth.

Utensils are sterilized for continued use, whatever mild curiosity the professor had with specimen Z satiated for the moment, but if he were to be considered the control test… then it was to be assumed that the same augmentations and procedures would be forced upon specimen C.

"Hush now, you." Although it is clear that his words are aimed entirely at the specimen, whatever whispered note exchanges were happening fall silent, all eyes on the professor as bony hands checked for pulse manually against a sickly pale wrist. He was the only one to ever directly adress the specimen, the only one that seemed to hear him - and enjoyed hearing his distress. Head tilts to the side, a glance over the shoulder, and then after a moment does he entertain the notion of facing the more ludid of the pair found in the reactor, a full turn on his heel as he peers over the once-SOLDIER, his form hovering over the specimen, blocking the light of the spotlight above them, a halo unbefit a creature so cruel.

"You have no reason to worry…" The droning in his voice is a mockery of soothing, a sickly smile stretched across the man's face before he can deliver the joke. "It is doubtful that his condition can worsen with mako poisoning this severe. If anything, death would be mercy, no?"

Laughter, short and cruel, the man doubling over in his chuckling as he turns away for a final time this day, beckoning one of his assistants closer.

"You may sedate him, I have no use for that one now."

Is there any magic you can do to specifically dream what you want or would that be categorized as ludid dreaming? I only ask because I lucid dreamt before and couldn't change the dream to what I wanted, I was only aware I was dreaming.

Well, I don’t think everyone controls their dreams when they lucid dream, just some people can. (Though I’m not 100% sure on that so don’t quote me.) 

I’m sure there’s probably magic somewhere that could help encourage one to dream about specific things.

Something easy I can think of, is write what you want to happen in your dream on a piece of paper, and then let that paper soak in a container of moonwater beside your bed. Alternatively, you can put that dream paper in a sachet along with other herbs relating to dreamwork and psychic power.

I’d also recommend continuing to try and practice lucid dreaming, and keep trying to control your dreams when you know you’re having them.

Play is harvest, is abundance, is generosity, the harvest of pleasure after work, the excess and the gusto, the more-than-enough, the gifts, the spirit of exchange. To play a game is, in German ein Spiel spielen, and the brimmingness, the spilling-over abundance of play is mirrored in this brimming-over phrase: spill it, spiel it twice - just for fun. Aristotle said, 'Nature requires us not only to be able to work well but also to idle well.' Sigh. It's so hard. The Idea of the Idle which disses and rejects the clock is an ambition harder than it seems. To really play is to let go of the hand of the clock, to dive deep into the fathoms of time - a state of water this, deep play, with affinities to music, art, sex, deep drinking and deep thought. It is a chancy, risky, fluxy, underwater world where immersion in the moment is all. This wild time is far richer, though far flukier, than clock-time, this is time enlivened and various, time as fast and slow as a waterfall's cascade. It is not necessarily easy to be in, for its waters are uncontrolled by a clock, uncommanded and uncharted. Without a clock you are on your own and it is a difficult but rich experience, this, the beautiful duress of ludid creativity - idlesse oblige.
