I think fandom fundamentally lost something when fan content stopped being treated like a free creation from another fan and more like a YouTube video dropped from your favorite influencer.
it’s become content and consumers, not a community of people and it’s fundamentally breaking the ecosystem.

"Hey you in there. It's me again. Your dad. How's it hanging?"
Michelle tilts her book down low enough to see over it, only able to see the back of Peter's head that lays on her belly. She smiles fondly as he goes through what's become almost a nightly ritual of chatting with their unborn child.
"I had to chase a pigeon today after it took off with this kids USB stick. But you know, can't blame the pigeon on this one. I mean, who would hold up a USB stick in the shape of a french fry like that? In the middle of the park? Not saying the kid deserved it but, well..."
Michelle feels the baby roll then the warmth of Peter's hand as he lays his palm against her skin. The baby pushes against it and he huffs a laugh.
"Is that a yes or no? One kick for yes, two for no."
At first nothing happens. Then MJ feels a sudden jab into her ribs which makes her groan. "Quit encouraging her." she says, reaching down to rub her side. "She doesn't need it."
"Sorry." Peter kisses a spot on her round belly and whispers, "Be nice to Mommy."

“You’re so, so, so pretty.” Peter says, words slurring as he drapes his arms around Ned’s neck.
It makes him laugh and say, “And you’re so, so, so drunk.” He shifts his hold on Peter’s legs as he walks, the sounds of the party growing fainter the further they go. The wet sidewalk shines in the streetlights and Ned keeps to the right as much as he can to avoid any splashing from passing cars.
“‘M not drunk.” Peter says. “Can’t get drunk.”
“Uh huh, and that’s why I’m carrying you home right?” Ned feels Peter squirm, arms tighten ever so slightly as Peter presses his cheek right against his, nuzzling against him.
“It’s ‘cause you looooove me. 'cause I looooove you.” There is a smile in Peter's drawn out words which only makes Ned smile more. Peter's familiar weight against him, warm and he wonders if the man can hear Ned's own heart skip a beat. Even after all these years, it still gets him.
"Yeah, yeah," Ned chuckles lightly as Peter presses a sloppy kiss to his cheek. "Love you too."

"How come you're not squishy?" Morgan asks out of the blue. Peter frowns and cranes his head down from the clouds to the little brown haired munchkin that is laying on his stomach.
"Why am I not squishy?" he asks, if only to make sure he hears her right. He did.
"Yeah." Morgan sits up and turns in the grass to face him and pokes his belly. "You're tummy isn't squishy."
"I'm sorry?" Peter barely stifles a laugh. "Do you want me to be squishy?"
Morgan hums as she thinks, her mouth twisting in a way that reminds him greatly of her father. Finally she shakes her head. "No. It's okay." She returns to her original position with her head laying on his very flat and very not squishy stomach. "Only daddies can have squishy tummies."
This time Peter does laugh.

“... and then next thing we know, there’s this explosion from Flash’s table. Me and Ned turn around and there’s soot just covering Flash’s face. His eyebrows were gone!” Peter ends with dramatic flair that draws a chuckle from Tony.
“So he’s completely eyebrow-less?”
“Not completely.” Peter replies. “It’s worse. They’re patchy.”
Tony laughs at the mental image that springs to mind. “Well I say he deserves it.” he picks up the solder iron as he resumes work on part of his suit. Or, one of his suits, Mark 47 to be exact. Pieces of the right arm lay scattered on the workbench in front of him. “So kid, you're still coming up to the Compound this weekend, right?”
“Oh! I forgot.” the phone shifts and Tony can hear Peter saying ‘May, can I-’
“Yes, you can go.” May interjects. “Stark, you have to stop stealing my kid every weekend.”
“You’re on speaker now.” Peter says, rather helpfully. Tony can hear the radio playing and what he swears is the blinker on May’s car.
“Stealing implies I want to keep him.” Tony says with a laugh. He sets down the solder iron and picks up one of the smaller screwdrivers.
May laughs and Tony can picture Peter rolling his eyes. “Whatever, Mr. Stark. Your life would be totally boring without me.”
“Also less stressful.” Tony says. “So where are you two heading tonight?”
May gives the name of a restaurant, adding “Friend at work recommended the place so we thought we’d try it. Maybe next time, you and Pepper can join us.” Sharing a meal together, the three of them (or four when Pepper was home and not away on business) had become a sort of monthly routine thing. More often than not, Tony found himself looking forward to them.
“I’m sure I can convince her to work it into her schedule.” Tony says. He pushes up his welding goggles onto his forehead as he looks up at the hologram screens, waiting as the computers run diagnostics on the arm’s repairs. “So, kiddo, Happy will pick you up Friday after school."
“Okay! Oh! I had some ideas for a new kind of webbing and thought we could test it out? Like, the ones I normally use are awesome, but thinking maybe I could make some that are stronger. Like, what if I had to catch a helicopter or something before it fell?”
Tony tries to think of a situation where Peter would be in that type of situation. He shrugs his shoulders. “Doubt you’ll come across anything like that any time soon, but yeah sure, we could do that.” he moves some things around on the holo screen. “And you can help me work on some Avenger gear.”
“Really?!” Peter exclaims and Tony smiles, imagining the kid’s face is lit up with excitement. “That would be so awesome! Like, way awesome! Is it Cap's shield? If Thor back yet? Do you think I could try lifting his hammer? That would so cool! I can’t-- MAY LOOK OUT!”
The next thing Tony hears is May shout, followed by the sickening crunch of metal. The phone clatters against something hard and then-
Nothing.
Tony's heart is in his throat. The chair scraps against the lab floor as he springs to his feet. "Peter! May!" He shouts, hoping and praying for something. A noise, a sound, anything. Silence continues to fill the space.
"Peter! Dammit say something!"
The call drops.

Meet Me in the Afterglow by seekrest. Rated M. Idiots to lovers. Spideychelle goodness. Love this one (what I would consider NSFW, so use caution and be of age).
For Pete's Sake! by @kitcat992. Rated T. Whump. Head injury. Iron Dad. Highly recommend. I cried.
From the Top by garamonder. Not rated. Peter B. Parker accidentally winds up in MCU spidey's universe. I laughed. I cried. It was amazing.
Sed Diabolus by @dragonnan. Rated T. I'm a bad friend because I still haven't read this one yet (sorry Drag), but this author is amazing and does whump and voices her characters so we'll omg. This one is full of whump, Peter Parker, Stephen Strange, demonic possession, all the good stuff. I've been seeing snippets and it's high on my list of what to read, so check it out.
Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts
Look, this series is a part of me. It is an integral part of my childhood. Skip this if it makes your blood boil.
naive: in defense of hannah abbott by dirgewithoutmusic. Rated G. Snippets of Hannah's life from the end of year 4 to the end of the series. This one also made me cry. And it made me angry. And I love Hufflepuffs.
Somebody that nobody knows by asterismal (asterisms). Rated G. Hufflepuff Harry Potter, and Harry Potter who isn't the boy who lived. I'm a sucker for both. Lovely one-shot.
put down your roots by weatheredlaw. Rated T. Newt and Tina relationship/Tina POV. My heart. 💖
ATLA
This Barefoot Estate by Just Getting By. Rated T. The palace/Fire Nation staff point of view about Fire Lord Zuko.
The Dragon-King's Temple by Kryal. Rated T. This is the cross-over you never knew you needed. Stargate SG-1 and ATLA. Zuko and Toph end up with SG-1 after a mission (sg-1) and field trip (oh Zuko), go wrong. It's GOOD!
(there are a million ATLA fics I could recommend. Let me know more of what you like and I can be more helpful).
Misc.
something's lost but something's gained in living every day by silentsaebyeok. Fandom is Cobra Kai, rated T. First off, all of silentsaebyeok's fics are incredible, and she brings a much needed type of fic to the CK fandom, so read all of them. That being said, this is one of my favorites. Whump. H/c, found family, emotionally stunted adults acting as father figures... Oof. This is one of my ALL TIME faves. So go read it.
Steal by Royal_Prussian_Fox. Fandom is Octopath Traveler, rated T. Therion and his friendship over time with Tressa. Sweet story. I laughed. It gave me feels, and was incredibly in character.
