I just got a very nostalgic feeling of love for the normalities of my childhood.

The fact that I know exactly where every product in the grocery store in my home town is.

The memory of my mom taking me and my brother to the library to check out books, and I used to read books about a fictional magic school and nonfiction dinosaur facts.

I used to have bins and bins filled with Calico Critter buildings and Littlest Pet Shops, all of the old versions that me and my parents spent so much time searching for.

The neighborhood behind my house, separated by trees, that used to be just one house with a family we knew.

The road that leads to this girl I used to sit next to on the bus’ house.

The golf cart rides, and the pool days thats ended in hamburgers or hotdogs and watermelon with salt and a shower in the afternoon when we’d hang our bathing suits for the next day to do it all over again.

I admit, it was all nice, and sometimes I do miss it, but I’m also alright with never going back again.

Why Canadian teenagers don't go out anymore

Where tf are they supposed to go?

I remember one time when I was 15 or so back in the early aughts, that my friends and I met at the food court of the local mall to celebrate someone's birthday after school.

We'd bought a cake at the mall's grocery store and were just hanging out at 2 tables in the food court chatting and eating cake and mall food.

Since the tables couldn't be moved, a couple of us were leaning into one of the tables with their hip so we could all chat and not take up too much space.

Suddenly some security guard showed up to kick us out, no reason given that I remember.

We were no more rowdy than any other table -- we were all the stereotypical "good" kids, being rowdy in a public space like that wasn't something that would ever even cross our minds. We were kicked out solely because we were a group of teenagers.

At the same mall I was once followed around by a security guard while grocery shopping for my mom. Not doing anything suspicious beyond existing as a teenager.

How tf are they supposed to get there?

Have you ever tried getting around most Canadian towns without a car?
