Les Misérables - 1.1.2: Monsieur Myriel Devient Monseigneur Bienvenu
Day two of posting about Les Mis Letters 2024, and today I have actual Thoughts!
My overall impression is that I'm enjoying the original French a lot better. I'm definitely able to pick up a lot more nuances, and I'm glad I decided to go this route in 2024.
First main thought: Monsieur Bienvenu is very much not the same thing as Monseigneur Bienvenu, and I have some Feelings about the fact that the English translation (at least for Les Mis Letters) does not carry that over.
Of course, those who are more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of this translation and the others are free to jump in, but I wouldn't have thought it would be so hard to just go with Monsignor Bienvenu, or even keep Monseigneur Bienvenu. The title for me makes a very big difference, in terms of the character and what Victor Hugo is trying to do. Especially since, as the chapter title says, Myriel goes from Monsieur to Monseigneur from the will of the people of Digne.
His new title also is part of the theme that we are presented with in the very first chapter, of having to overcome first impressions or being judged in a skewed fashion - either too harshly or too well - by others; I think the English version does the reader and the story a disservice for not keeping that specific word.
My second main thought is that I was able to grasp a lot more nuances this time around, such as the fact that in M. Myriel's budget, there are several items that have to do with prison rehabilitation and improving prison conditions and freeing fathers imprisoned for debt. As I told my friend, who is reading Les Mis in French for the first time with Les Mis Letters (not his first re-read, though), the foreshadowing is not subtle at all. We love to see it :)
I also do like how this budget helps makes Monseigneur Bienvenu's actions regarding Jean Valjean later on much more understandable. He's already for helping ex-convicts already, if only in theory. As we see later, Myriel's lofty thoughts and principles don't always come through to real-life issues, especially when he has a personal bias, but having that mentality of wanting to help out is already very important. It's also very sad, because all the money in the world doesn't help out very much in this case, as we see again and again throughout the book when encountering systemic and societal issues.
Finally, as many others pointed out last year and this year, the fact that Myriel does all of this charitable work at the expense of his sister and his housekeeper, and not even giving them a choice in the matter, is kind of sad.
Not only does this self-sacrificial impulse negatively impact these two, who already don't have much agency in their world, but it's also that he doesn't seem to realize that they may want him to have some things as well. The line "Bon, dit-elle à mademoiselle Baptistine, monseigneur a commencé par les autres, mais il a bien fallu qu’il finît par lui-même" [“Monseigneur began with other people, but he has had to wind up with himself, after all."] really stood out to me.
My friend rightly pointed out that "when self-sacrifice turns into sacrifice of others, you've gone too far," which I think is true in this case and is even more obvious later on. I really wonder where a certain Jean Valjean gets it from... It's a total mystery...
Last parting thoughts: I liked how the relationship between mademoiselle Baptistine and M. Myriel was described in French a lot better than I did in the English version; for whatever reason, it sounded less sketchy and more heartwarming, though I couldn't say exactly why: "Pour cette sainte fille, M. de Digne était tout à la fois son frère et son évêque, son ami selon la nature et son supérieur selon l’église. Elle l’aimait et elle le vénérait tout simplement."
All in all, I'm very glad I was able to listen to this chapter today - I was so engrossed while listening to the story that I totally stood while doing nothing else for more than five minutes just listening to the narrator tell me all about our bestie Monseigneur Bienvenu. 😆
I hope to have more thoughts tomorrow!

La Danse des Âmes
@tmvoldemort, continued from here: X
The vast marble hall was lit by white taper candles. Their light bounced off mirrors and crystals, setting the world into a golden shine. A temple to wealth and influences set in a Rococo finished. There, looking cozy with a socialite was the Minister from France. Trying to keep up with her more dance savvy partner was the fame MACUSA Auror.  Each guest donned a mask. Some had a theme going among them. A Merlin here. Morgana with her date in a Raven mask. A pair with matching silver and gold gilded masks. More than most went with Venina styles. All unaware of the interloper.   Slithering between the throne. His gaze was limited by his plain mask.  How safe they believe themselves to be, Voldemort thought. Foolish to allow masks. Not when a group dons them to wage war against them. Still a few sense something off about it. They shiver as Voldemort slithers by. A chill of moral danger. But Voldemort wasn’t here for them. Spying his intended overlooking the dance floor on a balcony. He came up from behind her. Smelling the fragrant she wore on her neck. Merging into her slight shadow.  Leaning over to whisper in her ear; “Mademoiselle you are not dancing. Surely your date has not abandoned you? Least for someone else to take your fancy.”
Had it been any other soirée dansante in Paris, Nagini would have felt exposed and vulnerable and dread would have clung to her like a second skin. Over the course of her wretched life as an Underbeing, she had seen too much to entertain the delusion that she belonged for a mere instant, not when she was acutely aware of the wand she was barred from carrying, of the power, dignity, and agency she thus lacked compared to the witches and wizards surrounding her.
The relative anonymity granted by masquerade balls such as the one she attended that night did not dispel her discomfort in its entirety, yet at the very least, she did not feel quite as naked with her features concealed behind a plain mask of sufficiently convincing faux silver.
There had been rumors that Credence would be there – or rather Corvus Lestrange, the boy who had (mercifully) died in Credence’s stead and who was still falsely rumored to be his true identity.
Expecting to be dismissed a second time without a glance back, Nagini foolishly found herself aching to know he was at least all right, that – despite her fear and disapproval of Grindelwald and his pureblood supporters – he had found a home, the sense of belonging she had been unable to offer.
Minutes of discretely surveying the masked crowd from her vantage point on a balcony, however, soon turned into two agonizing hours, and despite knowing that her chances of finding him her had been infinitesimal at best, her heart nonetheless sank at her inability to detect a whiff of his familiar scent, the hint of ash and charcoal emanating from his pores.
‘Half an hour,’ she decided. ‘I will stay for another half an hour, but then, I’ll give up.Leave before they notice I’m not one of them.’
But then, all of a sudden, there was a subtle shift in the air, a lone masked wizard weaving his way through the crowd, who was different from the others, different and infinitely more dangerous.
It was evident that even those not cursed with a beast’s enhanced senses intuitively responded to that truth, shivering and angling their torsi so as to facilitate his passage.
It was with a vehement surge of dread that Nagini realized that the stranger was heading towards her, pinning her in place with his eyes alone.
She couldn’t move a single muscle, overwhelmed by the dizzying assault on her senses.
His deep, melodious voice caressed her ear in a tantalizing whisper; the pitch-black magic he exuded ensnared her, its distinct flavor rich on her tongue like expensive dark chocolate.
Nagini had to summon every ounce of her willpower to adopt an air of stoicism.
“I apologize for the misunderstanding, Monsieur, but I’m an interpreter, not a guest,” she lied, her tone polite yet distant. “As my employer no longer requires my services, I intend to take my leave.”
Despite the wariness and caution ingrained in her every bone, Nagini found herself lingering for just another moment, granting the enigmatic stranger an opportunity to persuade her otherwise.

Women’s History Month: More Nonfiction Recommendations
The Barbizon by Paulina Bren
Welcome to New York's legendary hotel for women.
Liberated from home and hearth by World War I, politically enfranchised and ready to work, women arrived to take their place in the dazzling new skyscrapers of Manhattan. But they did not want to stay in uncomfortable boarding houses. They wanted what men already had - exclusive residential hotels with maid service, workout rooms, and private dining.
Built in 1927, at the height of the Roaring Twenties, the Barbizon Hotel was designed as a luxurious safe haven for the "Modern Woman" hoping for a career in the arts. Over time, it became the place to stay for any ambitious young woman hoping for fame and fortune. Sylvia Plath fictionalized her time there in The Bell Jar, and, over the years, it's almost 700 tiny rooms with matching floral curtains and bedspreads housed, among many others, Titanic survivor Molly Brown; actresses Grace Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Ali MacGraw, Jaclyn Smith; and writers Joan Didion, Gael Greene, Diane Johnson, Meg Wolitzer. Mademoiselle magazine boarded its summer interns there, as did Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School its students and the Ford Modeling Agency its young models. Before the hotel's residents were household names, they were young women arriving at the Barbizon with a suitcase and a dream.
Not everyone who passed through the Barbizon's doors was destined for success - for some, it was a story of dashed hopes - but until 1981, when men were finally let in, the Barbizon offered its residents a room of their own and a life without family obligations. It gave women a chance to remake themselves however they pleased; it was the hotel that set them free. No place had existed like it before or has since.
D-Day Girls by Sarah Rose
In 1942, the Allies were losing, Germany seemed unstoppable, and every able man in England was on the front lines. To “set Europe ablaze,” in the words of Winston Churchill, the Special Operations Executive  (SOE), whose spies were trained in everything from demolition to sharpshooting, was forced to do something unprecedented: recruit women. Thirty-nine answered the call, leaving their lives and families to become saboteurs in France.
In D-Day Girls, Sarah Rose draws on recently declassified files, diaries, and oral histories to tell the thrilling story of three of these remarkable women. There’s Andrée Borrel, a scrappy and streetwise Parisian who blew up power lines with the Gestapo hot on her heels; Odette Sansom, an unhappily married suburban mother who saw the SOE as her ticket out of domestic life and into a meaningful adventure; and Lise de Baissac, a fiercely independent member of French colonial high society and the SOE’s unflappable “queen.” Together, they destroyed train lines, ambushed Nazis, plotted prison breaks, and gathered crucial intelligence - laying the groundwork for the D-Day invasion that proved to be the turning point in the war.
Heiresses by Laura Thompson
Heiresses: surely they are among the luckiest women on earth. Are they not to be envied, with their private jets and Chanel wardrobes and endless funds? Yet all too often those gilded lives have been beset with trauma and despair. Before the 20th century a wife’s inheritance was the property of her husband, making her vulnerable to kidnap, forced marriages, even confinement in an asylum. And in modern times, heiresses fell victim to fortune-hunters who squandered their millions.
Heiresses tells the stories of these million dollar babies: Mary Davies, who inherited London’s most valuable real estate, and was bartered from the age of twelve; Consuelo Vanderbilt, the original American “Dollar Heiress”, forced into a loveless marriage; Barbara Hutton, the Woolworth heiress who married seven times and died almost penniless; and Patty Hearst, heiress to a newspaper fortune who was arrested for terrorism. However, there are also stories of independence and achievement: Angela Burdett-Coutts, who became one of the greatest philanthropists of Victorian England; Nancy Cunard, who lived off her mother's fortune and became a pioneer of the civil rights movement; and Daisy Fellowes, elegant linchpin of interwar high society and noted fashion editor.
Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly
Before John Glenn orbited the earth, or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as “human computers” used pencils, slide rules and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets, and astronauts, into space.
Among these problem-solvers were a group of exceptionally talented African American women, some of the brightest minds of their generation. Originally relegated to teaching math in the South’s segregated public schools, they were called into service during the labor shortages of World War II, when America’s aeronautics industry was in dire need of anyone who had the right stuff. Suddenly, these overlooked math whizzes had a shot at jobs worthy of their skills, and they answered Uncle Sam’s call, moving to Hampton, Virginia and the fascinating, high-energy world of the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory.
Even as Virginia’s Jim Crow laws required them to be segregated from their white counterparts, the women of Langley’s all-black “West Computing” group helped America achieve one of the things it desired most: a decisive victory over the Soviet Union in the Cold War, and complete domination of the heavens.
Starting in World War II and moving through to the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement and the Space Race, Hidden Figures follows the interwoven accounts of Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson and Christine Darden, four African American women who participated in some of NASA’s greatest successes. It chronicles their careers over nearly three decades they faced challenges, forged alliances and used their intellect to change their own lives, and their country’s future.

Ensemble Stars!! > Bungou Stray Dogs Part 3
if you’ve been reading between the lines (and/or just reading the lines), you might have guessed what part 3 is, and who’s here.
It’s the Guild, featuring...
*drumroll*
Aira Shiratori! (and others)
(A continuation of my Enstars as BSD AU, see other parts below)
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 4] [Part 5]
with another iteration of our classic mediocre graphic, made by yours truly.
Tumblr media
(this is the last looooong post, I promise, the remaining two are shorter. except maybe with more lore?)
let’s check in with Aira first, since I’ve mentioned him in every post so far. Aira doesn’t have an ability, but he takes the role of lucy here plot wise. he’s just some normal guy that works for the Guild (insert rumors about Aira and Shu being related because of the French Thing) but Kohaku saves him during the conflict and he ends up working at Cafe Cinnamon with Niki, and also befriends some guy that has his face on Wanted posters (Hiiro).
Shu is the leader of the Guild. their main Thing is buying illegal art because Shu has a Collection. also he likes anonymously catching art thieves and forgers and turning them it. it’s complicated. he seeks the Book to create the ultimate art form. Shu’s ability is Mademoiselle’s Room (like anne’s room) and Mademoiselle is one of his most trusted advisors...
...along with Mika. Mika isn’t very confident, but he’s good at thinking of everything... like, everything. Shu’s other right-hand person, along with Mado-nee.
Nazuna used to be closer to Shu, but they began to disagree on artistic matters and then on business. nowadays, it’s rare to see them in the same room.
The other members of Ra*bits (in game) usually work as a unit with Nazuna. Hajime works with the Guild to support his family and has the ability Gone With The Wind. Mitsuru... sure. Mitsuru has the ability thats just two little guys. Tomoya’s box says “some guy” because i don’t know who James L is and he’s not important and also dead. Tomoya is important and not dead.
Kunugi-sensei is much less active than he used to be, and is mostly just here for his ability which has been transformed into an airship. yknow. the usual.
Tatsumi is from a religious family and his ability is the Scarlet Letter. He often works as a team with Natsume and Hajime (nice gardenia reference, nerd). Very devoted to his colleagues. more on that next post.
Natsume’s ability sucks people into another world created through witchcraft (yes like poe’s ability. but also like natsume’s canon vr world. for funsies). He took this ability into a DIY escape room contest and was absolutely demolished when Leo entered. he’s kind of bitter about that. would follow Shu-niisan to the ends of the world, or maybe just Yokohama. he occasionally visits the Agency after confronting Leo, and ends up close with Sora.
Mayoi is an eldritch being. rarely seen out of his room. on the occasions he works with Tatsumi he keeps babbling about how horrendous he is and how Tatsumi wants nothing to do with him, and Tatsumi is just like, chill out, you are lovely and one of god’s creations, and Mayoi turns into a creature. they make a good team nonetheless.
Izumi and Arashi were outstanding models and ballet partners, such that they caught Shu’s eye. Izumi has a sharp tongue but a valuable eye for aesthetics, and he’s banned from the Agency premises. Arashi and Aira are good friends that go shopping together and after the whole mess, Arashi becomes a regular customer at Cafe Cinnamon.

what do you think the significance is of bihter and besir both being the ones to end up dead by the end of the book?
This is what the critic Nurdan Gürbilek said on them in her book The Language of the Victim:
“The Greek word pathos means the arousal of strong emotions like sadness and pity in the viewer or reader by the narrative of pain in the art work. And “pathetic” means things like “pitiable”, “touching”, “sad”, “heartbreaking”. But unlike “tragic”, “pathetic” means more the pain that is unfairly being endured, that is accepted hopelessly. If “tragic” means the pain the hero who defied the inescapable fate endures because of his choice, “pathetic” means the pain of the one who was victimized by fate from the start, the innocent and defenseless, orphaned, oppressed and belittled. In Shakespeare if Hamlet is tragic, Ophelia is pathetic. If King Lear is tragic, Cordelia is pathetic. Or in Dostoevsky, if Crime and Punishment’s Raskolnikov who defies the law is tragic, Poor People’s orphaned little Nelli is pathetic. In Halit Ziya’s Aşk-ı Memnu if Bihter who brings upon her own bad end is tragic, Beşir who wastes away while hiding his unrequited love for Nihal is pathetic”.
So it can be argued that Beşir is kind of relevant as a pathetic counterpart to Bihter’s tragic heroine.
Other than this, let’s see what these two characters have in common to determine why they might be the ones to die:
1) They are the loneliest characters. They both are valued for what they provide for others: Bihter is only desired as a woman, not loved as a person. Beşir is a literal slave, he is valued as a servant and as kind of a doll rather than as a person.
2) They are less settled than the other characters. Beşir was taken from his homeland. Bihter has never had a golden age to look back on because of who her mother is.
3) They are the only two characters who are legitimately passionate about their fixation on someone, Bihter on Behlül and Beşir on Nihal. The romantic loves of all the other characters lack that tragic obsessive edge.
4) They are the characters who lack the most choice. Beşir’s lack of choices are obvious, he is a slave who is slowly dying. Despite being a “tragic” character, Bihter too is pretty cornered, she is the victim of who her mother is.
These make them distinct from characters like Firdevs, Adnan and Behlül who have more agency in the happenings and a character like Nihal who for all her apparent loneliness has a pretty established center and those who love her and a golden age to look back on.
I would say Bihter and Beşir are the ones who are most clearly the “victims” and that’s why they die. The central irony of the book is that throughout the book there is a seeming threat of Nihal’s impending death but it never materializes. Instead, Bihter who was deemed responsible for Nihal’s impending death, and Beşir who is oh so concerned for his mistress, are the ones who actually die. Nothing happens to the little privileged Nihal. I find this irony delicious.
Another thing is related to the book’s name. The book’s name is “Forbidden Love”. Bihter’s love is the most clearly forbidden and the one that most clearly challenges the society. Beşir’s love is more acceptable and exploitable as I have explained here. But it is still a forbidden love. The other forbidden loves in the book are not romantic in nature. I do think that Nihal’s fondness for her father and her wish to always stay with him, Firdevs’s trying to stay young, Mlle de Courton internalizing her job and seeing herself as a mother figure to her charges etc. are also forbidden loves, but they are not romantically tragic like Bihter and Beşir’s loves. There simply isn’t a romantic tragedy to Mademoiselle or even Nihal dying whereas there is to Bihter and Beşir dying and Halit Ziya loooved his romantic tragedies.
Verdict: They are the ones to die because they are the actual victims of the society and because their deaths make for a romantic tragedy.
Sorry if this answer isn’t too coherent I am a bit out of it today.

Name: Florentine Gastaut
Codename: Crimson Flower
Age: 28
Height: 5’ 5
Weight: 119 lbs (for now)
Birthday: April 2nd
As soon as she turned twelve, Florentine escaped from home, unknowingly leaving more than just her family behind. The poor girl aimlessly wandered the streets of Paris for months, finally finding a safe place at an unusually secretive woman’s bakery. She was offered food and shelter in exchange for helping with minor tasks, which led to the baker and the lost girl growing fond of each other. But life wouldn’t remain joyous for long. After all, secrets can’t be kept forever…
When the baker was shot, Mademoiselle Gastaut discovered the terrible existence of The Network, being left with two choices: To either die serving in secrecy or to be killed by the secret service. Picking life, she enrolled herself in this agency which knew no borders, no laws, and no limits in order to serve and protect the world. The Network’s intentions were noble, but their means were dirty, and it was exactly by these principles that Florentine was trained in [redacted], becoming a ruthless assassin. This earned her the codename of ‘The Crimson Flower’ since she always fulfilled her missions without spilling a single drop of blood from her targets or from herself.
Many years of service fluently went by, until a mission went terribly wrong, leaving most of her partners dead. Having had her fill of trauma, the agent pretended to have perished as well, fled to The US, and got a normal job as a retail worker.
Steadily picking up the pieces of her life, Florentine now faces the problem of trying to understand how to be an actual normal person while constantly outrunning her secret past and The Network. However, that’s not the end of her issues. Let’s just say retirement can be a bitch to one’s waistline…

Student Intro by Housewarden Kreo

Art & Coffin: @/fumikomiyasaki | intro temp: @/bunnwich
Kreo: "Ah Mademoiselle Paris.. She is a fashion model under my mother's agency. Known for challenging society norms since she was a child. She has such a following on those social media sites where people burden her with the title of "trans icon for the youth" and peer pressure her to display lewd behavior. While she strives to keep them happy I can tell its weighing heavy on her. She feeling stuck between her family parading her around like a trophy and her want to just be loved for who she really is."

Mon Amour, je suis tout à toi -Chamber (Part 2)
warnings: a little fluf ( just a little), mentions of family death, mentions of anxiety
___________________________________________ You slowly woke up, the sun shining in your dried eyes made you squint. You sat up as you looked down, you were under the covers? You don't remember getting into bed last night, only on top of the covers. Nevermind that, you needed to head to communications and see whats happening with Yoru. You throw on a bathrobe, no time to dress, as you head down to the conference room first. No one is there. Then you head into Brims office were you see Brim, having a conversation with a stranger. His build was stong and his body was toned and had streaks of gold running god knows where along his skin, he had a strong posture as he turned to see who barged in.
“Ah perfect, this is exactly who we were just talking about. Y/n, meet Chamber, known as Vincenent Fabron, he is new to the agency and will be here to watch over you while the rest of the protocol is on the mission of rescuing Yoru, it is an all hands on deck mission since yoru is one of our best agents, we can't risk losing anyone, not after astra, reyna, and skye have retired for the time being.” Brim explained as the gold toned man stared at you, taking in your sight. You fix your robe back over your cleavage as you shake hands with Chamber.
“I'm so sorry for my appearance sir, I quite literally just got out of bed to see if there are any updates on Yoru”.
“Oh no I don’t mind, and I'm sure Chamber does not either, I know how stressed you are over the situation, which is why it is an order to take the next two weeks off. Take some time for yourself y/n, I don't need you to be overwhelmed about this situation”. You nodded as you smiled and left the room. You closed the door as you stood still outside of it. You took a deep breath and continued to walk back to your room. You closed the door as you cleaned yourself up with a nice shower and a nice change of clothes. You walked out to the cafeteria, it was completely as you heard the jet take off outside. You then smelled the aroma of crepes and freshly brewed coffee. You walked over to the kitchen to investigate as you saw Chamber, he had a white apron on over his nice vest. He turned to meet your gaze.
“Oh y/n what a nice surprise. I would like to formally meet you. I’m Vincent Fabron, I just signed with the valorant protocol”. Chamber said with a small smile as he grabbed your hand and pulled it to his lips. He made heavy eye contact with you as he kissed your fingers so gently. You flushed a bright red as you smiled back. “Such a beautiful woman you are to be working here, I thought women that have such a figure as yours to be in modeling, no?” Chamber said as he released your hand and turned around to pour you a cup of coffee as you stood there, red as a tomato. “Oh no I’m not into modeling, trust me I have gotten that comment many times about my figure, but my mother didn't want my smarts to go to waste and suggested I work here, and I love it”. You said as he gestured for you to sit at the island countertop as he set a cup of coffee and a fresh plate of crepes in front of you.
“Oh Chamber, you didn't have to cook for me, I would have made something myself.” You commented as he placed a fork in front of you. “Did you not hear the boss Mademoiselle, he told you to relax no? Then relax you shall, anything you need, I shall be of service to you.” Chamber insisted as you felt a rush of heat through your body as you heard his addicting french accent tied into his english words, you couldn't get enough of this man and you just met him. “Are you sure Chamber-”. “Please mon amour, call me Vincent”. “Well, Vincent, are you sure, you don't have to be my maid or anything, I can do things myself.”
“I am 100 percent sure mademoiselle, anything you need, and I mean anything, I shall be of service to you. You clearly need to relax, I can see the knots in your shoulders from here.” Vincent commented as you strained your neck to the side, popping the stiff joints. “Thank you Ch- Vincent, I deeply appreciate this considering I won't be able to change your mind will I?” “No mademoiselle, you will not be able to changer d’avis”. You blushed as you and Chamber chatted over breakfast.
“Well I should get going, I need to do my daily workout.” You said as you excused yourself.
“Wait mademoiselle, would you like a massage?” Chamber said as he grinned at his questions. You nearly choked on your coffee. You were resistant at first, but then you realized. What could go wrong with a little massage?
Then there you were, only a towel covering your lower body as you laid on your chest. You peered up to see Vincent without his vest on and his sleeves rolled up, his white button up almost see through, clinging to his toned body. “You alright mademoiselle?” He asked as he noticed you were staring. “Oh yes of course, I must be getting a bit tired because of everything happening”. Yo gushed as Chamber nodded. You placed your head down as Chamber made another comment. “Would you like to talk about it, Brimstone told me you are close to this, Yoru, no?” Chamber said as you felt something cold and slippery on your back. “Well Yoru and I joined the protocol at the same time and because of this, we were paired on many missions together, even the ones where it was a one man operation, I would go with him for communications and to be his lookout. We’ve grown very fond of each other and I'm one of the only agents who can tolerate him. He's a bit of the snarky type.” You stated as you felt Vincent's hands start to press into your back, and to you it felt great. Not only were you getting an outdated massage, but you had someone so attractive touching you.
“How come you are not in the field like the other agents.” Chamber asked politely as you decided to answer.
“I just decided not to, I have too much younger trauma with special forces like this out in the field. My dad died in the field as an FBI agent. I decided at a young age I wanted to be like him, but once that happened, whenever I took a field test, I always freeze up. So I decided to help behind the lines.” You said as you felt a sort of relief getting that off your chest. That's why you have always stayed in headquarters when others get family vacations, it's because you have no family to go back to since your father was your only parental figure in your life.
“Oh I'm so sorry mon amour, I didn’t know that was your story.” Vincent said as he massaged your lower back. “It's alright Vincent, it's not your fault, plus, I know how proud my dad would be if he saw me doing the things I love, which is why I am happy and okay with sharing that story”. After he helped you loosen up, you decided you are just going to take the evening off, maybe sit on the balcony and read. You headed out to the balcony as you stared at the beautiful view, valorant headquarters was located on a remote mountain. You heard footsteps behind you approaching and you tensed up.
“It's just me mademoiselle, no need to be all defensive.” Chamber said softly as you relaxed.
“Brimstone told me to always keep an eye on you, so that's what I’m doing, plus, you seem like you need some company.” Chamber said as you smiled and nodded. “Thank you Vincent, I’m looking forward to spending more time with you in the next two weeks.”
