A Little Push

Summary:

Zulius and Splendib go to the beach, but Splendib is too stubborn to admit he can't swim. Kale and Shar are also there for some reason.

     Zulius and Splendib gossiped as the waves in the distance moved back and forth along the shore. Splendib was on his back with his hands on his stomach, while Zulius was sitting with one hand resting on the ground, his legs folded over one another.

     Their conversation paused, and Zulius looked upward. "The sky sure is beautiful today, isn't it?"

     Splendib gazed into the bright blue above him. "Yeah. I guess it is."

     Zulius stretched his arms above his head and fell onto his back, landing on the beach towel below him. He laid there for a moment, admiring the above, then rolled onto his side to rest his cheek in his hand. "You know who else is beautiful?" he asked with a flirtatious smirk.

     Splendib returned a playful smile. "I don't know. Who?"

     "Me," Zulius replied, gesturing to himself. He was met with a disapproving stare from his partner. 

     "Okay, fiiine," He continued. "You're beautiful too, my big, strong, handsome tigertaur."

     The cattaur tried to hide a smile. "Okay, you can stop now," He said when his boyfriend continued to playfully poke his face.

     "Awww, you're no fun," Zulius whined as he sat up. "Come on, I'm going swimming. If I don't get in the water soon I'm going to die of heatstroke."

     Splendib rolled his eyes and began to stand, his front half coming up last as he was stretching.

     "You can swim, right?" Zulius asked when they both made it to the dock.

     Splendib paused for a second. "What do you mean, 'can I swim'? Of course I can swim. You know I'm a cattaur of many talents"

     The zebrataur smirked. "Good. That means I don't have to feel bad for doing this." Before Splendib could process what was happening, he was headed face-first into the water below.

     He resurfaced, hissing and flailing his arms. Zulius was laughing so hard he had fallen over. He quieted down and headed to the edge of the dock to help his partner out of the water, as he was struggling to stay above the surface.

     Still giggling, he grabbed his boyfriend's hand. "Oh my goose, you can't swim, can you?"

     "Of course I can," he replied, irritated, still floating in the water. "I said I can swim, so I can swim. I just wasn't ready, is all."

     Zulius smirked and said, "Whatever you say, babe," before he let go of his hand and watched him fall back into the water. He turned and began to walk away, shouting, "Just let me know if you ever want help!"

     Splendib clung onto the pole of the dock with a slightly scared, yet determined expression. After a while he heard a camera shutter from above, followed by two voices whispering "blackmail" in unison.

     "Kale! Shar! How did you get here?!" he scolded.

     Zulius shouted from his towel, "I invited them."

     "Well can you uninvite them? People don't typically bring their kids with them on a date." He scowled when he heard the two of them giggling over the photo they had taken.

     Putting his mansplash magazine on the towel next to him, Zulius stood and walked back to the dock. "First of all, don't imply you want me to be typical ever again," he said jokingly. "Now stop being stubborn and get up. You look miserable." He kneeled down and showed Splendib the picture that Kale and Shar had taken.

     "Okay, fine," He admitted. "I can't swim."

     "Obviously. You should have seen your face when I pushed you in," he laughed, putting the camera away.

     The cattaur swiped at the top of the dock to try to reach and pull himself up. He began to slip and clung to the pole again, tighter than before.

     Zulius giggled more, and his boyfriend smirked, "Oh, shut up and get me out of here."

     "Actually, I have a better idea." He stood and walked back to where their belongings were.

     "Zuliii," Splendib whined playfully. "Babe, come back."

     He returned with a tote bag full of floaties and pool noodles. "Calm down. I'm teaching you how to swim."

     He set the bag at the edge of the dock so he could slide into the water. He splashed a bit of water on his boyfriend as he did so, causing him to give an irritated glare. Ignoring him, the zebrataur reached for a pool noodle from the bag and handed it to Splendib.

     He stared at the noodle for a while with a furrowed brow. He eventually smiled and said, "Fine. But only because you're hot. Now where do we start?

It's a real magazine. An actual magazine the Centaurworld crew made. There's actually some nice bits of lore amongst all the merdude fetishizing and overall Wammawink degeneracy. My god there is so much of it.

This is a really cute project and the crew clearly had a lot of fun making it! Like in the actual episode, the joke is taken way far beyond what is probably necessary but keeps getting funnier. I hope they'll make this officially available some day, perhaps in digital or convention zine form.

Headcanons:

They spontaneously break up and get back together. Their last breakup wasn't even because of the Be Best Competition like the rest of the herd assumes, Splendib just stole Zuli's lip gloss

That breakup only would have lasted a few days if Zulius hadn't jumped on Wammawink's helicopter after he stormed off (yes, his ex stealing his lip gloss was his backstory all along)

They watch reality TV together and shout at people when they do dumb stuff

Cuddles!!

They both rly like cuddles

Zulius uses Splendib as a pillow. He's super comfy

You know when cats want your attention and they just kinda climb on you? I don't have a cat but they do that right? Anyway Splendib does that

Zulius will be reading one of Momma Wamma's Mansplash magazines and Splendib just. climbs on his lap. Sometimes he purrs and it's the most adorable thing ever

I may have overdone it a bit, but I can't help it! I love these two with all my heart and soul
