#Mario’s new voice is okay imo

Anyways now that the direct has had some time to marinate here is a friendly reminder to not harass the new VAs for Mario and Wario (and also Luigi and Waluigi but they’re the ones I’ve heard most about lately)
Yes I miss Charles Martinet too but the new voice actors are doing their best and Charles’ performance is a really tough act to follow. And it’s okay if you don’t like the new voices or whatever because everyone has an opinion but if I see anyone targeting the new voice actors when they’re name dropped I’m gonna be pretty disappointed. Charles wouldn’t want anyone to get harassed

Just watched the new Mario Movie. It was okay.
The voice acting was okay enough, the characters were all pretty well-done besides Peach (who should be sweet *and* bad-ass, not just Movie Girlboss™) and I didn't like how Luigi kinda did nothing for most of the movie. The music (outside of the cliche overplayed regular songs) and visuals were phenomenal though! Illumination's style actually works pretty well with Mario, though Cranky Kong looks too young IMO (where are the wrinkles?) and Peach's face looks kinda Off.
I went in expecting something terrible like the god-awful Lorax movie from my childhood, and got just a mediocre kids film. Pretty good for what it was trying to be.
The other Mario movie is a better movie, though. This one is at least a better *Mario* movie, but the other one is just so much better as a film in general.

First Game of 2023: Dokapon Kingdom
To kick off my media consumption of the year: I rang in the new year in the midst of a 2 person Dokapon Kingdom campaign! I came across this game totally randomly while looking for something else on PS2 and I was intrigued by the idea of a mario party rpg crossover?? so i was like okay, sure, lets play it.
Tumblr media
Initially I was pleasantly surprised! It was way more involved than I thought it would be and I was genuinely having a great time, for the first few days.  Now, I do believe that there’s a shorter mode that you can play, and I just happened to play story mode, and let me tell you it is a long, LONG for a multiplayer. Its a multi-person campaign. I played this with one other real human and oh my lord. at like day six of us playing it was sighs when we sat down at the TV to attack another day of absolutely crushing the bots into the dust. I think if I were to play again I’d want to make the bots more difficult, but I honestly cannot imagine myself willingly picking this game up again LOL.
Tumblr media
Positives? Really innovative gameplay. its an rpg with competitive board game mechanics. you level up, you buy weapons and gear, you beat the shit out of one another. The designs are cute, the different classes are fun to play around with and strategize about. also its got simple and cute designs and the guy that voiced King Dokapon put his 110% into his role Negatives? you really have to set time aside to play this one. Im sure it would be tons of fun for roommate gamenights tho. Also, the bots have some. shady programming to them but some people count that into the game’s appeal for some reason. ALSO: the caricatures used in the cities are sometimes in quite poor taste and really ought to get a redesign and probably should have just been anthropomorphic imo.  Would I recommend? Not if youre playing alone or if you dont live with the other person youre playing with. I think that later versions of the game might have included online play but im not sure if theyre available in English. But if monopoly and axis and allies have started to lose their appeal, its worth a shot! I wont be playing it again but I think it gave me some ideas to roll around in my head about multiplayer games, especially since there’s such a dearth of them in the market rn!

Looks like you’re gonna have to gush some more cuz I meant in general uwu🌸
🌺😌🤟 Always happy to! Okay here’s just some General bnha Thoughts ™ Mostly Lov centric. You asked for them, and you said GUSH about them, so here’s. A Lot! :)
This isn’t a lov one but it’s really funny so I thought I’d put it out there:
-when bnha was first gaining traction on tumblr, it was all art of Tsuyu. I have no idea why. People were talking about the funky frog lesbian superhero anime. Maybe it was just the people I was following, maybe it was a general trend, but I LOVED her design!!! my fav color and frogs r super cute!!! And I already loved superhero media, so I was like. I’ll watch it. For Her. SO. FROPPY IS THE REASON I WATCHED/READ BNHA. I went in thinking she was the protag and I was sooo confused when Izuku was... tbh I still think it’d be more interesting if she was lmaooo aus where? ...seriously if anyone has good aus where this is the case send them LOL
-I don’t actually feel that bad abt what Shigaraki’s doing. I still feel bad for him. I’m this post. yes im an apologist. its not my fault hes sexy and has been running around shirtless. hes a lesbian icon like thor is. I want to touch his hair. hes never done anything wrong in his life. he could kill all might, deku, bakugo, whatever, I’d still be sayin this. I don’t feel bad for gt. like. was anyone genuinely attached to him? lmao
-well u know how spinner’s quirk is just sticking to things? We haven’t seen him use it in canon except like, (1) time iirc?? I think this is probably bc he’s embarrassed about it even in front of the league... I loooove the idea that he gets more comfortable with it around them :”) and also how shigaraki. um. does that falling asleep thing while standing up with his eyes open, canonly? (which I still love lmfao) Imagine someone in the league walking in a dark room, turning on the light n just seeing. Spinner upside down, stuck to the ceiling asleep bc heat rises and its Warmer Up There. (cold blooded thing like tsuyu?? come ON give him a big fuzzy coat and scarf...) and Shigaraki in the center of the room, slouched but still standing, eyes open and motionless. Theyre both sleeping. Whomever sees it just...slowly walks out. LMAO
-Toga roller derby au. No deep thoughts I just think she’d be good at it.
-Toga 100% is a social butterfly and could befriend anyone if they didn’t just judge the fact she was trying to stab them smh :/ (ok but seriously anytime I see cute friendships with her n the other kids im like :) aw. I feel like her and Camie...would be good friends. Camie feels chill enough to be like ‘ok whatever thats totally fine I forgive you!!’ LMAO we love airheads here)
-HOW DID TOGA GET SO GOOD AT FIGHTING? We know she’s been on the run since middle school or so, but good enough to pin Deku down after he’s been formally trained at a ~hero school~ for a while? (she pinned him TWICE I think, once when his arms were messed up, but, the other time as Camie, so? AND THEN WAS ONE OF THE 100 PEOPLE TO GO THRU TO THE 2ND ROUND OF THAT? even tho she didn’t bc she had to leave) good enough to beat Aizawa in a fight and stab him? A professional hero and teacher for YEARS? Is that seriously just street training??? Can people acknowledge how amazing her combat skills and reflexes are??? More Toga appreciation when?? Also her backstory??? SO subversive and incredible, hate when people reduce her to just a ~typical anime yandere~ :/
-Tomura doing stuff with his hands/fingers to train his quirk!!! And to learn to be careful with it!! obv I’m a Big Fan of him playing piano to do this and video games are prob the canon answer, but like, guitar or any stringed instrument that requires Hands would work too. Or knitting/sewing? EMBROIDERING? ??? Please, let me give you the mental image of him knitting aggressively while mentally scheming, watching a twitch streamer or smth too while doing it. (Doing stuff with your hands is a great way to let your mind come up with creative stuff, that’s how I come up with writing/drawing ideas 70% of the time)
-Tomura actually PREFERS cutesty, relaxing games. I mean, he does fighting and bloody stuff irl, games are a way to relax...he’ll play shooters and gta type games with The Lads, but. on his own?? animal crossing. pokemon. kirby games. mario. zelda. BIG ZELDA FAN (not saying this bc I, personally, am biased, but,) slime rancher, stardew valley, funny simulator games... he really enjoys those :”) God forbid he has a kid bc they’re 100% getting named after a viddy game character unless someone can talk him out of it LOL. Toga and Tomura are that animal crossing /doom meme where she’d be asking for doom and him asking for animal crossing :”)
-Bits and pieces of Before are kinda stuck in Kurogiri’s brain, but like. mostly useless stuff the doctor didn’t care about removing. Like, types of clouds. So Tomura kinda picks up on stuff like that. He can just look at clouds and tell you what type they are because Kurogiri used to take him up to high places in the city and point them out to calm Tomura down from a panic attack when he was younger. He can tell you if the sky looks like it’ll rain with a 80% accuracy rate too.
-Kurogiri left food out for kitties in the alley beside the bar. They weren’t allowed in for Health Reasons (it IS a bar with sanitation standards!!) And Tomura really wouldn’t stop it or encourage it either way so long as Kurogiri did his job, but occasionally would stand outside with Kurogiri and just watch the kitties from a distance. If any approached he’d go back in (lowkey afraid he’d hurt them by touching them :( ) They kinda kept that between them tho, bc they both Know AFO is a big bag of dicks and no fun
-people have pointed out how similar aizawa and tomura look. this was 100% the intention. tomura has a hatecrush on him. THIS IS SO FUNNY AND HORRIBLY AWKWARD FOR KUROGIRI LMAO
-Sako??? Mr. Dramatic?? Opera fan. Drama kid. Like, obviously, but. Really. He is. I feel like he can speak a dozen languages. I also feel like he used to be an overachiever but got too ambitious. He was def some kind of leader at one point of a diff Group or something that fell apart. I LOVE how creative he is with his quirk and the magician theme??? incredible. I don’t show him enough love but I Love Clowns :o)
-I don’t care what their canon heights are. Spinner and Dabi? short kings. My height hcs are (tallest to shortest) Kurogiri, Twice, Sako (who also has heels on his boots and a tall hat, keep in mind), Tomura, Magne (Tomura and Magne are about the same height imo) Toga, Spinner, Dabi. LISTEN. Dabi has short energy. Sorry. it’s true tho
-This is a semi-popular hc I think bc I KNOW I’ve seen it before, but Dabi having Terrible Vision and needing glasses is so so good. (seriously, with burns THAT close to his eyeballs, how could he not?)
-he tries to be a tough loner coolguy. you’d think he’d smoke, but I hc his ‘weak constitution’ comes with weak lungs (esp from years of a flame quirk?? inhaling smoke over so much time is SO bad for you, most people who die in fires actually die of smoke inhalation...) so he’s got like, an inhaler, can’t smoke, actually gets carsick, needs glasses, overuses quirk to save friends constantly, likes napping, a little awkward and rude. Tomura put him in charge of the vanguard so he’s smart, and good with strategies too, like a nerd. this is the Dabi I wanna see, not the popular fandom version of him tbh also step on hawks one more time sir :”)
-I wish all the lov fics weren’t?? villain!deku like I said earlier, but also, chatfics? I have nothing against them but most of them are just a bombardment of Memes with NO PLOT!!! Listen. text/chatfics CAN have plot and be an interesting way to tell a story. I almost want to write one just to show what I mean...
I know I’ve said I like spinaraki and blackmagic, but I am a multishipper, so a few ships I don’t talk about that I like that involve the lov in some way:
-toga/any of the 1A girls??? or Camie??? super interesting. ALSO in the radio drama, bakugo’s voice actor said Toga was his favorite girl??? so?? bakugo/toga ?? I WANT TO SEE IT. but specifically my fav dynamic with her is when someone ELSE is the one to like her first, it’s what she deserves.
-Kurogiri/aizawa/mic?? any variety of that is also 👌🏻 I also kinda wanna see kurogiri/all might bc. Dads. COME ON. they bond over ‘well, I raised him, and you want to have a part in his life now?? ok. earn it. prove it. I’ll screen you first’ or something LMAO they’re both genuinely concerned for the boy, and SOOO biased. let them bond.
-WAIT WHERE IS THE MIC/COMPRESS CONTENT. THEYRE BOTH DRAMATIC. ENEMIES TO LOVERS?? HELLO??? SOMEONE?? ANYONE. rarepair hours
-giran/twice is cute. like he was hyping him up so much and so ready to go save him...
-dabi/magne where is the content. when. why not everywhere??? I’ve also seen magne/compress which was cute!! or twice/magne? they’re the big sibs of the lov...
-dabi/spinner?? come ON dabi could get over his learned biases and spend time with him and they could hold hands. I want them to.
-dabihawks. Obviously bc the Drama. yes even still, don’t @ me. (also, shigahawks, seen some REAL interesting fics with it tbh) or spinahawks?? adding hawks to a ship is like adding extra chili powder. makes it SPICY dramatic)
-nine/tomura don’t @ me once again. both kinda afo’s playthings, nine obviously was the test for tomura’s new upgrades...they both love their friends...That Scene in the Flower field </3 hmmm tragicships are fun.
-tomura/mirko. more enemies to lovers. big fan of her and bunnies. remember when he wore bunny ears in bnha smash. (ok its crack but. CUTE.)
-I’ve also seen shiganatsu and shigafuyu and I’m like. these are cute, but also Dabi’s reaction always makes me cry laugh. so good.
-MOST EVERYONE IN THE LOV IS LGBTQA+!!! heres my personal headcanons:
Toga: pan or bi (CANON BASICALLY)
Magne: transwoman (CANON BABEY) bi, leans towards men. (her crush on dabi in bnha smash... uwu content where)
Shuichi: gets sooooo flustered canonly, I think he’d go for the first person Who Hit On Him (I can see him being the target of those mean pranks where someone says ‘my friend likes you!!’ and the friend is like ‘eww!!’ :(((( ) he’s super hesitant for romance, lots of repressed stuff. gay but takes sooo long to realize it bc he thinks most women are conventionally pretty Aesthethically, feels obligated to Like Them, but has bad self esteem so never goes after them, then only likes (1) guy so hes like?? is this allowed?? is this allowed???? (HES LIKE. IN LOVE WITH SHIGARAKI)
Dabi: bi but rly hasn’t ever gotten to date anyone, so he’s actually more reserved about it and while he’ll tease, he absolutely is absent and kinda oblivious (again, I KNOWWWW bnha smash isnt canon, but. my god. when magne is hitting on him and he Just Doesnt Understand.) also hes ace
Tomura: doesn’t care. (just prob says ‘its whatever’) trans/nonbinary (i’M NOT PROJECTING, BUT. :’/) probably goes with like, the label queer if any but doesn’t care much for labels
Kurogiri: bi??? kind of??? I say kind of bc well, I hc U Know Whom as bi, I feel like thatd carry over but he’d be really avoidant to date anyone bc hes gotta Watch His Kid u know? this is gonna sound surprising but I think he’d be the type to be like ‘ok we can have a one night stand/fling BUT it cant get personal bc I have a Job to Do for my Son so don’t get up in your feelings’ and act a little coldly at first or very ..not personable... depending on who it was he’d prob turn around eventually, esp if that person valued his feelings/job :”)
Sako: that mans Not Straight. I hc him as gay and also trans :3c
Twice: Bi and HAS dated prob more than anyone else in the league imo, super comfortable with his sexuality and supportive of everyone else’s :)
ok that’s about all I can think of atm, come back in 5 minutes and my brain will refill with lov headcanons :3 thank you for asking!!

Word Count: 1,098
Genre: Friends to Lovers AU, Angst (not too sure if it’s angsty, but just in case), Fluff, & Comedy
***WARNING: There’s like one cuss word near the end, that’s all***
Tumblr media
“I swear, on my love of all things Mario, that if you even get close to me with that thing, I will smack you all the way into next week. Don’t test me.” For the first words out of your mouth the entire day, it seemed pretty fitting that they were threatening. Not only were you dragged out of your warm bed far too early in the morning, but you were also in a terrible mood. Let’s just say that someone, your roommate, stayed up late blasting ‘80s tunes, which resulted in a lack of sleep on your end. Thus, the grouch monster you kept hidden away, for the most part, made its presence known when Donghun had shown up to drag you out.
Donghun just raised a brow at your threat. It made sense, you’d never been very good at following through on your threats with him. “I highly doubt that,” He scoffed. “Besides, since when has your love of Mario ever outshone your love for Toad? If you truly wanted to threaten me, you would’ve used Toad.”
To say the look you gave him was scorching would be an understatement, it would fit best under the ‘if looks could kill’ category. With a sigh, Donghun dropped the feathered pillow back onto the display couch.
“Why do you hate pillows like that so much anyway?” He questioned, slinging his arm around your shoulder.
You purse your lips. “I had a bad experience with them when I was a kid… My dog tore one up and ate some of the feathers. Seeing a dog vomit feathers is not a good memory.”
Donghun made a sound of disgust, nodding in agreeance. “Understandable.”
The two of you wandered around the home goods store for a while, the conversation taking a light-hearted turn. Donghun had brought you with him because he “didn’t know what would fit” in his new apartment. Seriously. He was using you like a free interior designer. Though, he did promise to buy lunch and your favorite ice cream. It was an acceptable deal- you get food, and you get to help choose his decorations. A win-win sort of thing, especially since you knew you’d be spending a lot of your time at his place. Your roommate was annoying, put simply.
Halfway through the aisle of lamps, someone called out to you. “Excuse me?”
Turning on your heel, Donghun’s arm falls from your shoulder. “Yes?”
“I have a question, or rather a request?” A woman asked, her voice quiet. She didn’t wait for a response before soldiering on, no matter how nervous she seemed. “Could I take some photos of you guys? You’re a really cute couple, and I would love to feature you on my channel.”
You blinked at her slowly. A couple? Donghun, and you? What an absurd idea. “I’m sorry, we aren’t—” You started.
“Sure, we don’t mind.” He replied before looking at you. “Do we, baby?”
As if him agreeing wasn’t shocking enough, he had to go and call you ‘baby’? You just stared at him, wide-eyed, mouth parted slightly. The sheer audacity of this man.
“Awesome!” The woman beamed. “I’m Dia, by the way.”
She directed you two to one of the couches on display. “Relax,” She kept saying. But how were you meant to relax when a stranger was taking photos of you? Then she instructed you to look into each other’s eyes, which made you feel all the more awkward. Donghun’s eyes were burning into yours, an emotion you couldn’t quite place, making its home there. His stare was too intense, your cheeks were aflame as you glanced away from him, a nervous smile on your face. All the while, the camera shutter clicked in rapid-fire succession.
You thought that Dia might be done with how many times you’d heard the click of her camera, but that wasn’t the case. The photographer asked you to go to the gardening section of the store for a different setting. A small part of you wanted to object, but another part wanted to see where this would go. So, you followed her, and let her direct you two in front of a section of greenery. Donghun’s arms wrapped around your waist, drawing you close enough to rest his head on top of yours. You wondered if he could hear how fast your heart was beating. The thunderous sound was all you could hear.
Then you heard a question that made you do a double-take. “Would you guys mind if I took a few photos of you kissing? Nothing major, just a little peck.”
You jerked your head back, looking at Donghun. If you didn’t know any better, you would think that the way his eyes lowered was seductive, the corner of his mouth tilting up. “Alright.” His reply caught you off guard. What on Earth was going on in his head right now? Was he just trying to mess with you?
“Great! Now, this should be light, serene, almost blissful. Nothing fierce.”
Dia counted down. Three, his face was getting closer to yours. Two, you could feel his breath. One, your eyes fluttered shut as his lips brushed against yours gently. Was this what it felt like to have your heart go into a frenzy? Like it’s going to explode purely because there’s no humanly way for it to beat any faster than it already is?
“Perfect,” Dia exclaimed. “Let me give you guys my social media and email so that I can share the photos with you when they come out of editing.”
You stood there, frozen in place, as Donghun got her information and bid her goodbye. It was only once he was facing you again, and Dia had disappeared into the store, that your mind unpaused. A million thoughts flooded your head, the main one being: why? What the hell was going through his mind to agree to any of that? And you asked him just that, voice raised, wobbling uncharacteristically.
He shrugged, a playful look on his face. “I had no problem with it.”
“Why didn’t you? We aren’t a couple.” You muttered, crossing your arms.
“But we could be,” Donghun says softly, taking a step closer to you.
     “I know it’s— Wait. What?”
“We could be a couple if you wanted.”
Blinking wide-eyed at him, you stammer nonsense, trying to formulate a response, heart pounding in your chest. Heat rises to your cheeks. Was he saying what you think he was saying? “You- want… With me?”
He thunks a finger on your nose. “Yes, you adorably dense human.”
     “O-okay.”

Improvement-Ideas for Splatoon 2 (Opinion Alert!!!)
This game is amazing, just like the first. And it definitely deserves all the praise and love it gets. However, I still believe this game has plenty of problems, that could be improved on. Because as fun as it can be, it can just as well be frustrating and morale crushing... Depending on what people you end up playing with and against... So first up, here is my list of problems I have with the game.
Problems with Regular Mode (Turf War)
Since Turf Wars is described as a casual mode, that anyone can pick up and play, it should also be the easiest to get into. And in a way it is, with an objective that is very easy to grasp. Just paint as much as you can and you win... But unfortunately, it's not as simple as that...
- Turf Wars IMO is the hardest mode of them all! That may sound surprising, but in my experience, I had by far the hardest time with Turf Wars. While I had a much easier and fairer time with Ranked. Why is that? Well the biggest reason is that Ranked Modes focus on one of two areas on the map (Clam Blitz kinda being an exception, with clams being scattered everywhere). But Turf Wars in universal: The entire map is the objective, rather than a few select parts of it. You have to stay vigilant at all times, since the opposition can be literally anywhere. With Ranked you can make a pretty good guess where the opposition is headed. But not in Turf Wars... Secondly, the tides can turn at the last minute, even if your team was ahead the entire time. (And most of the time, that's exactly what happens, at least in my experience) And thirdly, kills are effective. Perhaps even too effective. Giving players with superior skills an undeniable edge over beginners and other not quite as skilled players... And that's why a lot of people go for kills and try to completely lock the other team down. Which is incredibly infuriating when you're at the receiving end of it. And the maps don't really offer much in terms of sneaking around. Which sucks... So if you're up against godlike players and they completely lock you down, you might as well throw the game... It's not fun, believe me... - Matchmaking is random What Nintendo (and a whole lot of other people) sees as a good thing, ends up being a dealbreaker for me and many other people... And it's easily my biggest gripe with this mode. What players you're matched with and against, is all just a roll of the dice. Aka completely luck-based. And as such, winning or even your team just doing well enough, become mostly luck-based as well. And if you're having real bad luck (like yours truly), you lose most of the time and question your life choices... Either because the matchmaking decided to match you with teammates that are far less skilled than you or you are straight thrown into arctic water, by matching you against players that are so far above your skill level, that you stand no chance against... Sometimes even the two combined... It's really aggravating, when the dice roll results are so unbalanced. - Turf Wars is a little too winning-oriented I still remember the days of early Splatoon 1, where you simply had to get as many Turf Points as possible, to do well. Losing didn't matter, since winning only net you 300 extra points back then. The bulk of the points (and thus your money and EXP) came from your Turf Score. And I believe this is how Turf Wars worked best and it truly was a casual mode, where losing really didn't matter all that much. Unfortunately, with the update that added the New Level Up System post level 20 and now with the adoption of the same system in Splatoon 2, that is a thing of the past. You only need to reach 500 Turf Points to get the most points possible from the Turf Score. And you get the most EXP points for winning. And I believe that is why Turf Wars became so frustrating to play. After that update, you could see nothing but E-Liters in Splatoon 1 Turf Wars. And since E-liters were completely broken in that game, Turf Wars became impossible to play and enjoy, if you used any other weapon than that. And even in Splatoon 2, people became really aggressive and focus mostly on kills and base invading. Since that wins the game. And I am pretty sure, if Nintendo wouldn't have changed the Level Up System like that and stuck with the original all the way, people wouldn't be so tryhard in that mode.
Problems with Splatfest
- Toxicity I made a whole Tumblr-Post about it once. Link: https://paragon-yoshi.tumblr.com/post/175961272304/toxicity-in-splatfest-revised But to summarize: I believe Marina and Pearl act way too toxic during Splatfests (at least in the localization, since in the original japanese version they apparently don't act nearly as obnoxious). And it mirrors the toxicity coming from the players, as far as I have seen. Not to mention it makes the Splatfest a much more serious deal, than it needs to be... - Same problems as normal Turf Wars All the same problems from normal Turf Wars can be found here. You may think matchmaking would be the only exception, with the "Splatfest Power" system. Though even with it, it seemed just as random, which is a shame... Because the concept of Splatfest Power definitely goes into the right direction.
Problems with Salmon Run
- Not available at all times.< Okay, this is something nearly everyone complains about. So enough said here... - Being unable to use your normal clothes I HATE the working attire that Salmon Run forces on you. It's UGLY! I'd much rather use my preferred clothes from normal PvP.
Other Problems
- The game doesn't let you play with more or less than 8 players in a match Looking at other online shooters, pretty much all of them let you play with different amounts of players, rather than forcing a set number on you. (Let alone being able to enter and exit mid-game) I get that Nintendo wants to be original and likes to do things their own way. But in this case, I really wish they would've done it the same way other online shooters did. I believe we wouldn't be stuck in "Waiting Room Hell" nearly as much, if the game was more flexible with the number of people that can play at a time... - Abilities being locked to Clothes Clothes should be cosmetics first, period! And I don't believe it was a good idea to lock Abilities behind clothes. And it very often creates a dilemma to me. Since the clothes I really like, often have abilities I have no use for. While clothes with good abilities for me, often look ugly AF. So yeah, enough said here...
How Splatoon 2 could be improved
Let's tackle the small fry first...
Improving Cosmetics and Abilities
- Separate Clothing and Abilities I'd make Clothing completely cosmetic, while Abilities have their own slot-system. It could work the very same way as they work now, just without the clothes. And instead of buying clothes for abilities, you would buy... Let's say, Badges or something like that.
- Add more Clothing categories Like this: - Head (Hats, Caps, Headbands, Bandanas...) - Face (Glasses, Masks, Facepaint...) - Body (Shirts, Coats, Sweaters, Jackets...) - Wrists (Bracelets, Watches, Sweatbands...) - Hands (Gloves) - Legs (Pants, Dresses, Skirts...) - Feet (Shoes, Boots, Sandals...) - Accessories (Necklaces, Rings, Vests, Wigs...) Obviously that would mean, for example, Gloves are seperate from Body Gear now. As well as allowing you to wear Hats and Glasses at the same time. - Adding new customization options for your Inkling/Octoling Adding the following options would really perfect the character creation in my eyes: - Face (not just the eyes) - Voice - Height - Body Type (Skinny, Fat, Muscular, etc.) So people would be able to re-create their Inksona's much more accurately in-game... :3
Improving Salmon Run
- Unlockables: Normal PvP Clothes for Salmon Run and Salmon Run Work Clothes for PvP Unlock the Work Clothes as equippable cosmetics for other modes. And at the same time, from the moment you unlock them, you will always play Salmon Run with the clothes you have equipped. If you want your Work Clothes back, simply equip them to play the old-fashioned way. Both unlock after you reach a certain Rank in Salmon Run! - Make Salmon Run playable online, even when main shifts are closed. The logic behind this is: When Grizzco is closed, Inklings and Octolings can still work on their own and sell the Eggs they collect. This'd be a great way to make Salmon Run playable at all times, even when Grizzco is not available. However, it'd play a little differently... - You'd be able to freely pick your weapon. And it wouldn't change in-between waves. - Difficulty is still dependant on your rank. But it won't change. If you win, it won't increase. If you lose, it won't go down. - Players vote for stages and the game then randomly picks the stage from the voted options (Like Mario Kart 8 online picks tracks) - You only get cash at the end. Nothing else! - Since Mr. Grizz isn't around when you work on your own, there'll be no one to order you around or give you advice! So basicly, when Grizzco is open (which right now is the only time you can play Salmon run) it'd play as usual. But when Grizzco is closed, the above mentioned changes are in effect, until they open again.
Improving PvP Modes
- Make Ranked Mode available from the start Aka, no longer having to unlock Ranked by reaching level 10. You can jump straight into competitive, if you want. This actually goes hand in hand with the more drastic changes I suggest, further down. - Ability to play with more or less than 8 players AT THE VERY LEAST FOR REGULAR MATCHES! Like I said, being able to play with different amounts of players would greatly cut the time we spend waiting for a lobby to fill up. It works well for all other online games of this kind. So why shouldn't it in Splatoon as well? And the ability to enter a match mid-battle, could easily fix uneven teams in a match. Plus, if teams are uneven, I'd like to have some "handicap effect" in place, giving the outnumbered team a boost in some way, until it's even again. The greater the difference in numbers between teams, the higher the boost. - Allow players to create "Custom Lobbies" with their own rules Essentially this would revise the current "Private Battle", give it more options to customize your game, as well as the choice to either make it public or friends only. Obviously you could join any open lobby from a list of available lobbies, if you want to join a custom game, rather than create one. The host of the lobby would set the rules. Like choosing maps and Game Mode. In this regard it'd work exactly like Private Battle does now. But it'd offer far more options for the host to customize their game: - Time Limit (so you can play Turf Wars for longer or less than 3 minutes of you want. Same with Ranked and their 5 minutes) - Maximum Number of Players - Respawn Time - Ink Capacity - Damage/Life - Abilities On/Off - Items On/Off etc. This would allow for some much needed diversity, allowing you to play the familiar modes in very different ways... Lastly, I'd still allow EXP and Money to be obtained from this (at least if it's a public lobby). One possible concern some of you might have, is that if the Time Limit is ridiculously high (like 30 minutes for example), you'd have to sit through the whole thing. Well no, you wouldn't. Since other online games of this nature allow you to enter and exit mid-game. So that very same option would allow you to leave at any time. Of course, the downside is that you won't receive any EXP or Money, if you don't play the match until the end. And now we're getting to the changes for Regular Mode (and Splatfests) As far as I can see, there are two ways to improve it. One very simple way and one drastic way, that changes Regular Mode in some significant ways... The simple way is: - Make "Splatfest Power" a feature for normal Turf Wars This would be the easiest way to fix the issue of unbalanced match-up's in Turf Wars. Since, if it works as intended, there'd at least be some sort of balance between players and their skills. It wouldn't be perfect, but IMO it's better than nothing. But like I said, there is another, more drastic way to go about it. And I am sure some people will lose their mind and want to see me on a chopping block for coming up with these ideas. (If there's anything I learned, it's that people don't like big changes. Especially if it's a game changer!) I'll be blunt: I believe Splatoon would be better, and appeal to much more people, if it were half Party-Game and half Competitive Game! The key to this lies in the "Regular/Ranked Split" Make "Regular" the "Party Side" of Splatoon, for casual players who want to have good old fun. While "Ranked" would be the fully "Competitive Side" of Splatoon, where you need to have superior skills to come out on top. While the, above mentioned, "Custom Lobby" feature would allow players to customize their games, and give their matches the best of both worlds maybe. Or turn their games into something different... If you wonder why I would do it like this... Well, have a look at this informative reddit post, that talks about Party Games and Competitive Games. Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/281eja/why_smash_is_a_party_game_and_what_the_melee/ It's about Smash Bros (and quite a lengthy read), but a lot of the points there should apply to any game! And you might understand why I'd vouch for the following changes... - Add items to Regular! Let me stress this one more time: REGULAR MODE ONLY! ITEMS WOULD NOT BE IN ANY RANKED MODES!!! This system isn't even new, since the Battle Dojo from the first game, actually had items! Items from Single Player and Octo Expansion (adjusted for Multiplayer) would appear here. And they would appear all over the stage. It'd have items such as "Battle Armor", along with the ability to stack armors for more durability... "Ink Tanks" that refill your ink, as well as temporarily increase your Ink Capacity... "Canned Subs" to swap out your Sub Weapons, until you get splatted... "Canned Specials" giving you instant access to the depicted Special Weapon... The "Full Power Up" from the first game's Battle Dojo, increasing all of your stats for a short time... On top of that, I could imagine some specials from the previous game returning in item-form. And maybe some original items. Such as temporary upgrades like "Spread Shot", "Rebound Shots" or "Homing Shots". Items would mostly appear randomly. But when a team is at a disadvantage or player imbalances are detected, items would spawn more closely to the players/teams at a disadvantage. Again, I stress: ONLY REGULAR MODES WOULD HAVE ITEMS! Ranked on the other hand wouldn't have them. So if you loathe items and random chance in games, just play Ranked and be happy. Or make your own "Custom Lobby" and turn them off! And since I mentioned the Battle Dojo from the first game so many times... - Revise Battle Dojo from the first game and make it a new Regular mode I really believe "Balloon Battle" from the first game would make a really good new Regular mode. Just like it was in the first game, the objective would be to pop as many balloons as possible and rack up points. You lose points if you get splatted and whoever has the most points, wins! But of course, there'd be some changes: - Obviously, it'd be a team mode now. So now the points of every team member are added up for the Team Score. And the team with the higher Team Score wins. If there's a draw, there'd be overtime, until one team takes the lead. - Add balloons with multiple colors that are worth more points The normal balloons would earn you 1 point for every one you pop. However, this game would also have balloons with multiple colors, which are worth more points. Of course, the more points a balloon is worth, the less often it appears. - Balloons would spawn more frequently and in multiple areas all over the map If you are one of the few people, who ever got to play the Battle Dojo in the first game, I think you might remember how it works. There is an area marked on the map and balloons will spawn there after some time. But in this mode, the balloons would spawn much faster, instead of having to wait for like 10 to 20 seconds for them to spawn. Also, balloons would also now appear in multiple areas all over the map, instead of just one area. And also in different intervals. So it'd be much more chaotic now. Turf Wars is all alone in the Regular mode. It's time to add a new Regular mode for once, instead of giving all the new modes to Ranked only. Of course, since it would be a new Regular mode, it'd also have items. - Splatfest Ranking and Scoring The way you'd rank up and thus earn Sea Snails, I'd do a little differently. Again, I think it is too winning-oriented. Instead, while winning is one way to earn points for your title, I'd add more things that can earn you points. Like helping out a teammate, splatting enemies that fire at your teammate, assisting in a splat, Booyahing together in the first 10 seconds of a match. These things would net you more points towards your title. So ultimately it's not so much about winning during Splatfest, as it is about sticking together and working as a team. Performing teamwork actions would actually reward you more, than just winning the match. And it'd perfectly work with the team-mentality of Splatfest. An "Alternate Way" to handle this would be to ditch the Splatfest leveling altogether and instead collect "Splatfest Tokens". You earn Splatfest Tokens after every match, depending on how much turf you inked, whether or not your team won and by performing various teamwork actions during the game, like the aforementioned examples. Again, you would get the most rewards out of working well as a team and not for winning. You could spend Splatfest Tokens at a vending machine for Sea Snails, Ability Chunks, unique gear or Food/Drink Tickets (which you could freely pick even). You know funfair's in real life, where you can win tokens and exchange them for various rewards? Yep, that was my main inspiration for this alternate idea for Splatfests. And it's very fitting in my eyes. ;) And that's it! That's all the ideas I have that could really make Splatoon 2 better. Or maybe even a possible sequel. If you want a polite discussion, I'm all for it. But I won't be talking with people that obviously want to troll, completely trash me for my ideas or performing any inconsiderate, disrespectful or hostile action against me. That's all. See you.

So, a few hours in now...
 - the battles are definitely slower than in previous Blade games and it is taking a while getting used to...
 - I prefered the old battle system with the many arts available during battle. There are only 3 or 4 here, it takes them a bit of time to charge and it gives the impression auto battles do more than you do. Guess it’s to be expected if Takahashi slowly embraces a more action RPG design though.
 - missing the extensive customization from Blade 1. Not just the visual equipment, I just miss being able to equip more than 2 pieces of equipment by character.
 - you can equip (2 per blade or driver) perishable items for bonuses in battles but there are so many and the bonuses don’t really speak to me. I can do alright without them. Therefore, I barely care about them.
- EDIT : Torigoth’s design remind me of Columbia from Bioshock Infinite and Balmora from Morrowind.
 - I know this is a xeno game for younger/larger audience... but i’m under the impression that the game has FF4 « death is a joke » syndrome. Not necessarily my favorite thing.
 - Tiger Tiger is alright. It is a bit hard but not a terrible game.
 - I understand this person on Twitter who was raging about Tora’s English VA. Tora really sounds a lot more grating than Riki... it’s impressive (i love Riki but that english voice... ugh).
 - speaking of this... « meh meh meh »... did nopons always speak that way ? I don’t remember this from XB1. The change (if there was one) is pretty « meh ».
 - I need to stop mixing up the switch’s A and B buttons. I think I equal A with the X button on PlayStation... 😫 Hoping i’ll manage not to mess up battle/salvaging QTEs eventually.
 - still not liking/caring for the noisy rock battle music (didn’t in XB1, same here)... the rest is ok/good (i’ll decide on the soundtrack’s overall quality later, when i’ll be able to listen to everything out of context). EDIT : I do enjoy the story boss music, though (reminds me of a song I heard somewhere before but I can’t quite put my finger on it right now).
 - Tora’s theme music... if this wasn’t a Nintendo game, Mario would give this guy the stink eye. It’s amusing.
 - a bit sad the Blade encyclopedia spoils all of the rare ones before you even get them. It’s a bit like maps being revealed from the start. Takes away a good degree of mystery/excitement.
 - a bit nervous about pulling Blades. Why waste boosters if you may get normal ones ? Also, I heard it’s a terrible idea to make Rex pull them (which is gaming keyword for « something drastic is going to happen to this character, don’t use him/her »). Okay, Nia it is, then.
 - I sort of enjoyed the end of Chapter 1 (it’s the ghost ship mood, I guess).
 - some battleships in this remind me of the Yggdradil in Gears.
 - i’m starting to understand how people felt when they first played XBX. From the first large area, you really need to be careful not to cross the path of horribly strong enemies. XB1 was more adequately balanced (until some endgame quests). But I think it also felt this way because big monsters/uniques weren’t so fast. I’ll get my revenge eventually, whateveryourhilariousnameis.
 - being able to ride Dromach when controlling Nia is neat.
 - not sure I have any favorite characters for now... But it’s still early in the game. Maybe Nia will be among them in the end, dunno... EDIT : I get the feeling it will also be the case for Poppi, Morag and Brighid (?).
 - I feel like the named townies don’t have day/night routines... takes away from immersion a bit, imo...
 - wow... rudest xeno game I played so far (Xenosaga games had a few swear words but this series was darker with older characters). At least, the french translation. I mean, really, it’s weird... it’s the lightest xeno game ever, with the youngest main character (I believe both Nia and Rex are supposed to be teens... I heard 16 years old for Rex)... and the female fanservice and sailor swearing is off the roof.
 - I don’t have big issues with the map or quick travel feature... but the markers on the top screen (which indicate how much distance is left) can be pretty messy. Sometimes, they all appear on top of each other.
 - building up blade skills feel less involving than building art skills in Blade 1. But it’s mostly because skills unlock based on your actions on the field/during battles. So, in the end, it’s possibly more involving... and at least, you can still directly build drivers (who have a shorter skill tree it seems).
 - I guess it’s a smart thing they put collectibles at specific points. You need wood type collectibles ? Go search around trees. Random will still random but you won’t have to run all over a huge area in the desperate hope the next blue orb will be the item you need.
 - I miss Mario and Zelda’s in-game photo feature. Maybe something like that unlocks later on but... i dunno... Sometimes, when traveling and discovering new places and the sun is bathing the environment in gold... I want to take pictures without the gamey interface ruining the shot.
 - I just fought a dog stucked into a door (and Pyra enjoys to levitate). Xenoblade 1 was the most buggy Xeno game I played back then (I know, I heard things about Xenogears, but nothing ever happened to me on the original PS1... only bothersome bug I encountered was when I used an emulator on PC)... but this one could potentially win the Bethesda seal of approval. As long as it remains funny and doesn’t ruin the game... i’m good.
So, yeah... lots of gripes already. About various things. But i can’t have a definitive judgement when i’m still playing chapter 2. I still have a section to unlock in the menu too.
Edit : Fixed the post (writing with my phone wasn’t such a good idea).
Now, starting Chapter 3... first cutscene is the Kingdom Hearts/Nomura zone lol.

why do you like the confession roulette thing??! its awful imo and v angsty. and I'm not one to believe in 2012 angst fics, but this video really makes me wonder. they're so awkward with each other and yeah
(link to confession roulette)
What makes it angst to you, anon? To me it looks like one of the only realistic looks we got at them and how they functioned as people and not just onscreen personalities during that time period. I mean, awkward? Absolutely. They were being asked to be honest with each other and issues between them to an audience. Who wouldn’t feel awkward not knowing what they were going to have to talk about in a situation like that where the whole point is honesty and not sugar coating things? They were outside of their comfort zone.
But I don’t see it as angst between Dan and Phil at all. It just shows me that they were working to figure each other out still, and what kind of concerns they had. We learned so much about them from that - but everything they discussed are normal issues that two adults in a relationship would have, would talk about, would bicker about, would work through. (Or work around, or just learn to adapt to.) To me that’s such an immensely satisfying thing that I can’t fathom not appreciating it.
- Dan complaining about Phil eating his cereal with his hands and Dan emphasizing that what bothers him is that Phil lies about it. - Dan’s sleep issues. Dan’s defensive about it but Phil keeps pressing it, and flat out says that it bothers him. This reads very, very clearly as an argument that they’ve had plenty of times before. Phil doesn’t understand why Dan can’t sleep, and Dan doesn’t want to be told there’s anything wrong with his behavior. There’s more concern than anything in Phil’s voice though. He wants to understand. - Phil admitting to losing Dan’s Mario Kart 3DS game not telling him. Phil coped with this by not telling Dan he’d lost it, but buying Dan a new game for seemingly no reason and letting Dan play over Phil’s own ‘crappy save.’ This seems to almost relate back to the cereal thing to me, in that Phil knows what bothers Dan is being lied to for little reasons but Phil would rather lie and avoid confrontation anyway while making some gesture to make himself feel less bad.- Dan cracking the kitchen tile. “You mean the one you said you didn’t do?” Phil’s tone indicates to me he definitely already knew Dan broke it, but Dan tries to get around on a technicality because he doesn’t remember breaking it but knows there was a situation in which he might have and didn’t notice. Dan is trying to avoid lying and avoid admitting guilt.- Dan leaving the straighteners on while they were gone for the weekend. Phil is safety conscious, Dan is absent minded. Phil saying that Dan has left straighteners on and sitting on his bed is the most interesting part of this to me. - The only story that doesn’t involve Dan and Phil - Phil going on a holiday with his friends and then raving about it to his friend who couldn’t afford to go. “But for some reason I kept going on about it and I didn’t think about his feelings.” and years later he still feels guilty about that. It’s like the awareness of his own privilege seeping into Phil’s consciousness.- This is actually the most fascinating part of the whole video to me. When the topic is ‘what I need to work on’ Phil seems to immediately know what Dan is going to say, and agrees: being stubborn, thinking his way is the right way, struggles taking criticism. Dan agrees. His voice when he says ‘it’s funny, usually’ is surprisingly fond. D: You have a problem admitting guilt sometimes. You get very, very easily offended.P: I get quite defensive about it.D: It’s funny, usually.
- Dan being late. Also obviously a conversation they’ve had many, many times before. (And based on Dan’s blinding himself video, still do.) D: Being late. You hate that. Okay, so I’m never actually late for anything-P: Yes, you are.
D: I plan - I’m very confident in my own abilities to get ready five minutes before we leave. And your problem is, you, umm, you freak out a lot. [...] Maybe I can get ready earlier, just so you don’t freak out.
Then Phil immediately uses the example of that exact day when Dan was still in pajamas when the taxi arrived to take them to the BBC.
I don’t think either of them said anything in this video that related to issues between them that they hadn’t hashed out privately. Perhaps not to a point of resolution, but things like insomnia and stubbornness aren’t exactly easily resolved - or resolved at all, usually. The straighteners and the Mario Kart game might have been new information but decidedly more situational in the examples themselves, and things that they’d be annoyed/frustrated by but ultimately laugh at later on.
So yeah, repeating myself but - I love it because it’s just satisfying to me to see them navigating a relationship (even if you don’t think they’re together, just insert whatever word you’re comfortable with) as adults without the gloss of making things perfect for the camera.
