Frostfire- 6/10
**Old Review!-- ignore some odd phrases and wording lol**
Ooh wow, first review okay I’m gonna keep this short.  So this story was performed by Maureen O’Brien and was written by Marc Platt.  It was released in January 2007 and it was the first Companion Chronicles released.
Short summary: Vicki tells a story to this entity (later revealed to be the remaining piece of the phoenix they meet later in the story) about an adventure she had with the Doctor and Steven.  They landed in London in the 19th century and had to figure out what was up with this strange egg.  Surprise, it was a phoenix and wanted to live.
This story was, overall, very ‘meh’ to me.  Don’t get me wrong, Maureen was fantastic in it and all the voices she did were great.  The story itself just felt very basic.  It just kinda puttered along slowly.  The cuts to older Vicki were nice and they might’ve been one of the best parts of this story.
My main complaint is that I feel like Vicki was characterized very badly in this story.  She doesn’t seem like that bubbly, excited girl who we know from the screen, her interactions with Steven and the Doc weren’t as playful and teasing, and she felt very subdued.  She was also quite violent- Like, she was determined to destroy this phoenix and, in the end, basically did.  Another weird thing was the absolute insistence that Vicki was in love with Steven.  Jane Austen (who appeared) was convinced they were a couple and although Vicki told the audience she just thought of him as a brother, she told Austen that she was in love with him and started listing his “admirable qualities” and called him handsome??  Also, she talked about how in love she was with Troilus (this is a Troilus hate account be forewarned).
As for Steven, he didn’t do a ton.  He was fawned over by the ladies- which I found hilarious and did not blame them one bit.  However, in the story’s defense, it was a Vicki story so I won’t be too harsh because of that.
6/10

NEW FROM FINISHING LINE PRESS: Running Wild by Patricia McMillen
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/running-wild-by-patricia-mcmillen/
Patricia McMillen‘s first full-length #poetry collection, Running Wild, draws on the poet’s mid-twentieth-century #Midwestern #suburban #childhood, committed involvement in her Chicago, Illinois, and #American communities, and the forays in and out of psychotherapy that have marked her first seventy years. Ultimately poetry deposits her, and the reader, on the cusp of old age, not without a fight. Fearlessly feminist, occasionally metered and/or rhymed, these are poems to read and re-read, on or off the bus, train, page or computer screen. A student of the late Maureen Seaton, Barry Silesky and Luis Alberto Urrea, among others, McMillen has more than a lot to say about living life on her own terms…her poems will leave readers saying, “I know exactly what she’s talking about.”
Patricia McMillen is a retired lawyer, folk musician and clown-in-becoming. Born and raised in Illinois, she briefly practiced commercial law with the Chicago-based firm once called Mayer, Brown and Platt, but threw that over in 1992 for the practices of banjo playing, poetry, and freelance advocacy. Along the way she acquired the Hebrew name Tova (“good”), married and divorced twice, and arrived at adulthood with minimal scars and a single tattoo. This book is dedicated to her first ex-husband, Jack, who, inexplicably, remains a loyal friend.
PRAISE FOR Running Wild by Patricia McMillen
Patricia McMillen is the real deal. Her writing is full of color and music and clean wind. I admire this work. Get it.
–Luis Alberto Urrea, Mexican-American novelist, poet and essayist
Running Wild by Patricia McMillen breathes a distinct, unmistakable voice. These poems speak a woman honest, earthy, fearless, forgiving, and provocatively sassy. So much in this collection to savor, it is a book readers will return to again and again to mine its many layers of emotion and meaning. In these poems you feel the motherly love of a poet who holds her sharp-edged poems close, pressed to her breast like a child.
–Albert DeGenova, poet, founding publisher and editor at After Hours Press

Listed: Cuddle Magic
Tumblr media
Brooklyn sextet Cuddle Magic have been making sprightly, smartly arranged indie-pop for the last dozen or so years. If you didn’t guess the concept behind their new album, Bath, from the title alone, you might receive clues from the intimate performances contained therein — it was recorded in a bathroom around 23 microphones, capturing the sound of these six musical friends locking into sweet, melodic songcraft. In his review of the album, Tim Clarke observes that “While some of the band’s last album, Ashes/Axis, took shape from rhythmic ideas sourced from old songs, Bath sees melody and intimacy take precedence.” Now that the coronavirus pandemic has devastated the music industry and temporarily riven the close connections that musical relationships foster, each member of Cuddle Magic selected music they’ve been holding close.
Benjamin Lazar Davis
Ben Platt — “Rain”
youtube
Was watching The Politician on Netflix and stalked this guy to this song. All I’ve been listening to ever since.
Cole Kamen-Green
Bill Evans Trio — “My Foolish Heart” (Live at The Village Vanguard, 1961)
youtube
This track is so beautiful. The sound of the recording, the chatter in the club, the slow groove/feel. There's a moment at 2:52 through 3:02 that continues to be one of my favorite moments in all of music.
Caroline Polachek — “I Give Up”
youtube
I love the production on this. Her singing is super groovy. The hi-hats are grimy. It’s sparse. The lyrics hurt a bit. The orchestration is super dope. It makes the face go stank.
Kristin Slipp
Björk — “Undo”
youtube
“Undo” by Björk is in my top ten favorite songs of all time. I love everything about it — the intimate production, her tender vocals, the harmonic structure, the choir and strings. Björk has a beautiful way of making abstract feel as natural as breath.
Chloe x Halle — “Forgive Me”
youtube
Way into how this song almost seems like it starts in the middle — it’s immediately hype. Of course Beyonce’s proteges are making some shit!
David Flaherty
The Velvet Underground — “Foggy Notion”
youtube
Maureen Tucker is my favorite drummer, and she really shines on this track. Her simplicity, consistency, and distaste for cymbals are an inspiration.
Charley Patton — “A Spoonful Blues”
youtube
I love this song so much. Charley Patton’s guitar playing is hypnotic. I don’t ever want it to end.
Christopher Andrew McDonald
Jakob Bro — “Heroines (Variation)”
Listen on Spotify
Incredibly beautiful song from Danish guitarist Jakob Bro. Fun fact: Joey Baron [drummer on Streams] is Cole’s uncle.
Alec Spiegelman
Dinah Washington — “Mellow Mama Blues”
youtube
This track (and the whole set of 1945 Apollo recordings) has inspired me so much over the years, and continues to teach me new things! The groove, the balance of the band, the incredible singing, and the surprisingly wild and beautiful arrangement (for which no one is credited: did Mingus, who plays bass, have anything to do with that?), and Lucky Thompson sounding like no one else on tenor sax!
Christina Aguilera — “What A Girl Wants”
youtube
This is a masterpiece of a song. I love way the same melody gets displaced, sitting in three different places on the beat. The phrasing and the arrangement is crazy-crooked and squirrelly but sounds inevitable!

Rezension -Siebzehnter Sommer-
Klappentext
Verlag: Kein & Aber

Buchlänge: 304 Seiten
Preis: 13 Euro

I was really rooting for Ben Platt to play Mark, but I’m SO excited to see what Jordan Fisher does with it!
Also shook that Vanessa Hudgens isn’t playing Mimi again?? But I think it’ll be interesting to see her play Maureen

we need more universal musical theatre memes. i felt the need to propose some
•every time there’s a picture of nic rouleau just pretending he’s a really important member of the mormon church (ie: “this is a picture of Brigham Young, one of the og mormons”; or “meet Thomas Monson: the president of the mormon church”)
•never saying lin’s name. just replace it with He, Him, His, etc. lin is god.
•any musical that closed is now required to be bleeped out (gr**t c*m*t, etc)
•every year on march 21st (the first day of spring) everyone forgets that any musical except spring awakening exists
•this isn’t new but yall have gotta keep up with the “this is not amelie” bootleg names. fantastic. 10/10
•whenever people are partying describe it like “they’re behaving like they’re at the ballet”
•whenever someone is asking how to pronounce something/is pronouncing it wrong just go “actually it’s pronounced barFAY”
•whenever something confusing is happening be like “welcome to the rock”
•sentences in the style of “elsa from frozen? no, she’s maureen from rent” to describe people
•pretending jeremy jordan is an actual dog
•photoshopping christian borle’s face onto everything because he’s been in literally every show
•saying “hey guys who’s down to write a(n) ___ musical with me” except the ___ is replaced by something that should NOT be made into a musical (ie: “hey guys whos down to write a “the old man and the sea” musical with me)
•ben platt is an alien. we have no idea where he came from. he just showed up on earth today and decided to bless us with his presence and voice. you are now a secret agent whose task is to figure out where he came from and if there are more of these blessed beings
please feel free to add more. we need these in the broadway fandom

Rent Live
So I’m over here doing homework as well as listening to Dear Evan Hansen and crying over Ben Platt and how amazing he is. Taking a break from homework I came up with my Rent Live on fox DREAM cast.
Some I have more than 1 person for.
Mark Cohen- Ben Platt (I swear if Ben doesn’t play Mark I’m boycotting) But....if it’s not him I will accept Grant Gustin or Andy Mientus
Roger Davis- Jonathan Groff, Brendon Urie (I mean did we see him as Charlie Price in Kinky Boots?? Amazing), Stark Sands, Aaron Tveit, Andy Mientus (Yes double dipped but that man CAN SING)
Mimi Marquez- Vanessa Hudgens, Jasmine Cephas Jones
Tom Collins- Christopher Jackson
Angel Dumott Schunard - Todrick Hall
Maureen Johnson- Demi Lovato
Joanne Jefferson- Amber Riley (QUEEN WOULD KILL THIS ROLE)
Benny Coffin the Third- I don’t know why I really want Daveed Diggs to play him or Leslie Odom Jr.
Okay so this is my dream cast!! If anyone has their own I would love to share ideas and discuss this! Unless you don’t think Ben Platt should play Mark, then don’t even bother. Just kidding....all are welcome!!

I think if it's going to be anyone it'll be Maureen since she would be the easiest one to bring in some random Hollywood diva for. Although I also saw a speculation article cast Ben Platt as Mark and I'm sorry but. He is not Mark.
idk i could see him as Mark, but that’s just me. he’s a pretty good actor and i think he could pull it off.
i guess we’ll see who they’ll bring in…this show is truly an ensemble show so it’s no one’s guess who they’ll cast.
