A lot of people act as if Mapleshade is ontologically evil because (1) she lied about the father of her kits and (2) had a single thought of jealousy towards Reedshine for flirting with Appledusk. And that’s just so boring. Why do people want more villains that are just “destined to be evil” as opposed to being molded by their experiences and circumstances. Mapleshade’s Vengeance isn’t the best written book in the world (especially the last moment being Mapleshade reveling in her evilness) but it is just boring when you view Mapleshade as always being an evil cat.

It's not until MUCH later that the silveret is startled awake, though, rather than a bed becoming wet, the glass is knocked over to DRENCH his entire floor. A swear is barely contained behind his lips, the same hand slapping over his mouth, sending him sputtering from the water still on it. Gracelessly he leapt from his sheets, a sense of PANIC washing over him as he quickly checked his bed-- nothing.

A sigh of relief escaped him, though it lasted but a second before IRRITATION came over him.
