Early this morning I found out about the sudden passing of my friend of 16 years, @michelle_flaherty . Michelle had Spina Bifida too & was the best advocate for those with SB that I've ever known. I learned so much from her & aspire to follow her example every day. All day I've been trying to find the right words to say. There aren't enough words to express what she meant to me. I have been grieving so hard. She was my first online friend with SB. We met on MySpace in 2005. I've never known social media without her & she is responsible for the majority of the friends I've made in this community. I never got to meet her in person but we often talked about how exciting that would be. I will never forget her for as long as I live & I will always miss her. I am absolutely heartbroken for the loss of my friend, for her family & friends, & for the sb community. She was selfless, hilarious, smart, kind, compassionate, an animal lover, & an absolute treasure to this world & the Spina Bifida community. This loss will be felt by thousands of people. She made a HUGE difference in the SB community & nothing will be the same without her. Facebook has been overloaded with posts & comments from so many others about her death & stories of what she meant to them. Let us all connect through our grief & honor Michelle by being our own best advocates & for others. Let us enjoy life & laugh often, & think of Michelle when we see cat memes. She was truly one of a kind. If anyone deserved to have a longer life, it was her. It's not fair that she's gone.
