Introduction, characteristics, application, injection molding process of ABS plastic raw materials
01 Introduction of ABS plastic raw materials ABS resin is acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer. ABS plastic raw material is light yellow granular or beaded opaque resin, which is a bulk general-purpose resin. ABS is an engineering plastic after being modified (adding additives or alloys) to improve its performance. ABS alloy has a large output, a variety of types and a wide range of…

We all know I’m a sucker for a blind box.
Folks here may or may not know I collect resin ball jointed dolls. I also like vinyl/abs HJD.
There are blind box BJD.
I ordered a Simon’s Club Toy Campus Series doll on Amazon:  https://amzn.to/3JT66Qy and she was delivered today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I first looked through them I chose my favorites knowing FULL well that I would get the one I wanted the least. That’s how it works.
I have a reputation for weirdly good blind bag luck, but that only applies if I’m the one that chooses the box (or if my Son does, then it’s even better luck, which is weird).
It doesn’t work if someone else chooses the package for me.
Tumblr media
I wanted basically anyone other than Apple because red and black don’t appeal to me.
I wanted Blueberry most.
I got Apple.
She’s very cute. I am not unhappy about this. I wouldn’t have bought it at all if I actively disliked any of them.
Tumblr media
She came with a packet of extra hands, a little dress up card, a sticker sheet with her outfit pieces, a promo card with a QR code, instructions, her outfit, and herself.
Tumblr media
The box says they’re hand painted, but that’s certainly at least a stencil. Maybe airbrushed by hand with masks.
She is strung with narrow elastic and has tiny little S hooks in her wrists and ankles.
Tumblr media
The instructions say their hats come off but either Apple’s doesn’t or I just haven’t figured it out,  yet.
She is TOP HEAVY and her head flops around a bit. To dress her I had to take her whole head and face off.
She has standard BJD articulation plus a torso joint and double joint peanuts in her knees and elbows.
Tumblr media
Her head is 3 parts. 2 hair parts and a face plate, which slides on and off easily from a small retaining plate. Because of the positions of the retaining plate in relation to her eyes, it would be a bit of a pain to modify her to take inset eyes.
Tumblr media
I did have to take her head off to dress her. There are instructions on how to take out the face plate retaining.... thing... to facilitate dressing, but I didn’t bother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The clothes are all hemmed, but not serged and close with Velcro-like tape closures.
Tumblr media
She comes with 6 alternate right hands and 2 alternate left hands. I have no idea if they all come with the same hand pack or not.
Tumblr media
Swapping the hands isn’t too difficult if you have a tool to help, though it does require a firm pinch-grip so if you have issues with pinch-grip, you may need assistance.
Tumblr media
The alternate hands do all seem to be a little bit smaller than the default.
Tumblr media
She looks concerned...
Now, a warning.
I’ve been seeing quite a few reports of doll and toy shipments coming by boat from China arriving with visible mold in the packaging (Rainbow High dolls, specifically) with people suspecting they’re getting wet in transit or the cargo containers/ships are infested, and this package absolutely REEKED of mold when it arrived.
There was outer plastic, an outer cardboard box, and then the product’s outer box and the stink made it all the way to the product box.
The box is pretty cute, though, and has a picture of my favorite of the dolls on it, so I’ve put it down in the basement bathroom with my Ozone destinker device to see if I can get rid of that bad smell so that I can keep the box to keep all of her things in together.
Tumblr media
We’ll see how that goes.

hi sex witch! i was wondering if u had any resources on natural rubber being bodysafe or not? ive been using this gaia vibrator (lilac bullet something something) and it just occurred to me that its not a material i know for sure is safe, but i can't find too much on it
hi anon,
I'm gonna be so real right now: I think it's important to own when you don't know something, and this isn't something I can find a good answer for.
I like Blush a lot and have wholeheartedly recommended their Gaia bullet vibes, which are made of a biodegradable plastic blend that is 100% body safe. other toys on their site are body safe pretty well across the board; it's a lot of silicone and ABS plastic, both of which are perfectly body safe.
the rubber blend toys give me pause. rubber on its own is non-toxic but is a porous material, meaning that while it won't bleed chemicals into your body (the #1 danger issue with most unsafe sex toy materials) it can and does harbor bacteria and germs that cannot be 100% cleaned. with most rubber toys the best case scenario is to use it with a condom and dispose of it in a year or less to be safe, which means they are (in my opinion) kind of a waste.
the reason I hesitate to write off Blush's Gaia rubber toys is because it appears they're not using straight rubber but "BioTouch", which is a "proprietary version of natural rubber material" that "meets strict mechanical and chemical requirements." that's a little vague and on a lot of websites would not give me any peace of mind at all, because the sex toy industry is entirely unregulated and manufacturers can really put whatever the shit-fuck they want on their websites about how safe their toys are. honestly I wish Blush had bothered to specify whose requirements they're using to measure their safety!
now, having said that, while I generally err on the side of caution and don't trust businesses with anything, if it were me and my holes I would probably trust Blush and their products not to poison me with mold, because this is a company whose products I have personal experience with and who seem like they're really operating on the level everywhere else. ultimately it's up to you to make that call based on the info you have!

I have a question, you mentioned in an earlier post that YouTube(?) repaint tutorials were cringy/hard to watch. What are some of the most common mistakes made in these tutorials and what should they do differently??
Improper use of sealer lol. A lot of the time MSC mistakes happen cuz the can wasn't warmed up enough either via shaking it rapidly for long enough or the environment was too cold. And also the can is usually sprayed too close so the face remains shiny instead of matte.
Of course you should shake the can but sometimes in the middle of winter it's too cold for that so I usually stick my can in a cup of hot tap water and let it warm up for a few minutes before spraying. I also mentally try to keep the spray layers light and misty. It's a lot better to do a billion thin coats than one thick one.
Another is using hot glue or water soluble materials on dolls you're gonna boil or style later. Like yeah, the hot glue is gonna melt under boiling water and the water based glue is gonna melt when you wash the doll.
Using stuff like nail polish, makeup or stationary instead of artist grade materials is also a big cringe factor for me cuz you can see, not only are they uninformed and taking shortcuts, but they're wasting really expensive materials that are not designed to last forever. There's a reason why stuff meant for human use is meant to degrade and come off eventually versus something that can be archived indefinitely. It's why we don't spray gorilla glue in our hair and why we don't use nail polish on dolls.
Plus i literally have art supplies I've been using for over 15 years at this point. The $10 i paid for a tube of paint or the $3 chalk pastel I got in 2007 has outlasted even the nicest nail polish or whatever. Customising and art requires a bit of investment but they can literally last you years.
Another cringe thing is people not understanding different hair fibres need to be styled differently. Saran can dry out and needs to be conditioned and it can stay silky smooth. However the silky smoothness means you need to put a lot more work for the hair to take a curl.
Nylon takes curls like a champ but it's notorious for tangling and matting because it holds its shape so well. Seeing customisers pick one or the other and having to struggle to style their dolls because they don't understand is frustrating to me.
Also people not knowing dolls are made up of different materials and thinking all chemicals or art supplies can applied to each thing uniformly. A doll's vinyl head is gonna react differently to the ABS plastic of the torso to the injected molded vinyl of the hands to the nylon joints in a doll. Like of course acetone, a solvent that can melt ABS plastic won't have the same effect on the vinyl head and etc. Of course enamel and nail polish work okay on the ABS plastic of a doll torso but will remain tacky on a vinyl head.
I could go on but I won't.

It was very very rainy today. I knew it was going to rain but didn't expect it to be so heavy. It wasn't heavy the entire day but it was pouring for a lot of it.
I slept okay. When James was leaving I asked them for an eye mask so I could continue to sleep without getting sum in my eyes. But while that helped me sleep, it really wasn't necessary because the sun never came out.
When I did finally get up at 930 I felt alright. Best news though I legit felt pretty today. My face didn't feel puffy anymore. I am thinking I may have been having a reaction to a new eye cream I tried. But who knows really.
I got up and got dressed. I pulled all of my sweaters from under the bed so I could make one drawer of sweaters and one of sweatshirts. Made it a little more easy for me to find things. And also now I can actually open the drawers because they were overly full. But it's better now.
I decided that I would drive out to the savers and get Denny's for brunch and go to home Depot.
I left here and it was raining! Raining hard! It's surprising how much I cannot hear that in the house. Like I'm not as aware of it. But it was fine. I got to the car and got my podcast going and headed out.
I decided on Denny's first. It was pretty busy but it seemed more that they didn't have enough staff. But that's okay I didn't have a schedule.
When I did get sat my waitress was very nice. I liked people watching. And my food was pretty good, except the grilled cheese was on potato bread? That was strange. But it was still a good meal and cheaper then five guys.
There was a large family having a birthday brunch which was very sweet to see. And I enjoyed my video and my food. And even when I had to wait a really long time for the check it was all good. I didn't mind.
I paid and drove over to Home Depot, which is on the same shopping center. I measured the back of the car and I could for a 5 ft piece of wood on the back. But I would push the limits.
I got the molding I needed for the living room. Which I had to cut myself. Which was very fun for me.
I went to look for boards. And struggled to find the dimensions I needed. So I decided to risk it. And got 3 8ft boards instead.
I would very carefully take them on my regular cart to the register. I paid. Did not get a credit card even though the cashier really tried to push me to.
And off to the car.
And I was so lucky. Literally the boards were touching the radio dial. But the car closed and that's all that mattered.
I drove down the street to go to savers. I was in a good mood and while I did have fun, it was a little to busy. I would find a cute frame. I looked at the shoes but no luck on the two things I was looking for. But then I found a standing lamp.
I have been looking online for a lamp but nothing spoke to me. But this one did. I couldn't test it because it had no bulb. But I had faith.
Except there was no price. I went to a worker and he said he would go ask someone. Ab older woman who was sitting there chatted with me about how you never know if someone would price something or tell you it needs to go back to get processed and how stupid it is. And she was very passionate about this. We are talking for a few minutes when we saw the worker just wandering around. And so she stopped him and was like. Price for this lady?? And he was like oh he's in the break room. And she was like okay still ask. So he leaves again for a few minutes. Then comes back and says he's on lunch.
And wanders away. We were both very confused. Then we see another worker price something for another person and this lady yells over at him. Startles everyone. But she got his attention and he came right over, and priced my lamp for $6. Thank you lady for sticking up for me.
I paid for my frame and lamp. Got them to the car and immediately broke the inside of the shade. It was like shattering plastic. But the fabric part was fine and so I would just take the inside part out when I got home.
And I decided to go right home. I had thought about going to another thrift store but decided it was to rainy and I wanted to start building my book case.
So I did just that. And while the drive was a little tough, it wasn't horrible. And I got home in one piece.
When I got back I got everything inside. I cleaned the lamp. I found a bulb. I finished taking the plastic off the shade. And was thrilled that it worked and it looks so good.
I got to work on my bookcase I would use a hand saw for eveything. And while it's not perfect, I am thrilled with how it came together. I would predrill everything and got it all measured and I'm really excited how good I did. Like I know it's not perfect. It's a little wobbly. But I'm really happy with it and it's going to accomplish exactly what I wanted.
It would take me a few hours to build. Stopping to vacuum and clean up. And I had build a bottom for the thing but then it got stuck at an angle on the ceiling and I had to redo the bottom. But it was fine. I made a smaller base and put a wall anchor on the top. And got it installed on the wall.
Once it's got some wood filler and paint it's going to look amazing. And I'm just really proud my myself.
After I cleaned everything up I would do a little more putting away. And then all of a sudden it was 4. And I would get on the couch with sweetp to play on my phone and cuddle with Sweetp until James got home.
I had nachos. And just enjoyed our little space. It's coming together so nice and I'm really excited to share it with everyone.
James would get home and we're soaking wet. The rain has picked up and was very very strong. But they would get changed and come hang out with me on the couch.
We would hang out on the couch until 6. I would go fix up my makeup and we would get ready to go to have a birthday dinner for Tucker.
It was pouring really really bad. We would get there safe but man it was a little scary out there. I would read James about a court case that was crazy. And we would laugh about the name of the law firm. Womble Bond Dickersons. Ridiculous ass name.
Dinner was fun. We went to a place that some of Anne and Tucker'd friends were going to be playing music. And it was so fun to meet them. And it was really nice dinner. Music and laughing and story telling. We got to much food. I really enjoyed James's company. And Charlotte's dead pan story telling. Tucker and Anne were fun and brought a carrot cake. Which they kept trying to give pieces to people around the bar. Including to our waitress who was so excited to get it.
We were there until right around 9. But tomorrow is daylights savings and James will be losing so much sleep. Since Sunday is already a day they go on an hour early. My poor husband.
So we have everyone hugs and headed home.
When we got back here we would make a list of things to accomplish before our house warming. And I cuddled Sweetp. And we got ready for bed.
I am going to go take a shower. And go to sleep. Because tomorrow we have our open house at camp and I really want to be well rested. I hope it's a lot of fun.
And I hope you all have a great night. And a good day tomorrow. I love you all. Goodnight!!

Time for another mail-exchange interlude, ladies and germs.
Tumblr media
The box portends great things. What sort of fellow orders toys by the case?
Tumblr media
The sort who takes requests, actually: we both wanted this guy. The Snizzard (it gets a "The" all through the Wiki, so you know it's serious) apparently menaced the Power Rangers on several occasions (and was initially voiced by Bryan Cranston of all people). But I never watched that show for some reason, so I'm going by what Bogleech tells me: apparently this thing was originally Dora Ladon, based on the serpent that guards the golden apples of the Hesperides. Jealous of the many youthful women on Earth, Bandora (Rita) summoned this horror to suck the youth out of them. It does so with the magical apple crown on its head, which generates parasitic apples on its victims that rapidly age them. You can see why that part was cut.
Tumblr media
Anyway, this thing will blend right in on my burgeoning Demons and Things that Look Like Them table. It's like a hundred snakes swarmed together into a humanoid form, and then put on a possessed tsuchinoku costume.
Tumblr media
Speaking of, a surprise. I was after a minotaur, any minotaur, and this one didn't disappoint. A quick dark wash will make this pop; this is good, because he's not much of a character. Just a Worf Barrage magnet that served as an early reason to get the Power Weapons into play. He has double-arm swinging action, a sweet shield, and a classic design. I was not expecting Rhinoblaster, who I initially took to be a bat. He's full of sports puns and lives to disrupt football teams. Gotta say, he's lucky he looks so cool.
Tumblr media
Another specific pick, the Barracuda! It's not much of a vehicle, with a troop capacity of one, but compensated with a good strong missile launcher and an honest-to-gods baking powder dive mechanism. This one needs a cleaning, and perhaps some sealant on the stickers, but it really does spice up an ocean display.
Tumblr media
Critters! Leading the charge is Major Legger Mutton of the Barnyard Commandos BK promotion. Like the rest of this shot, he's actually spare parts, missing the pontoons that folded into a bracelet. Honestly looks better without. There's a few Battle Beasts, all disarmed. I like the chunky rubber spider, and the Boreal Toad is kind of adorable.
Most intriguing are the Toad Air Marshall from Bucky O'Hare, another line I slept on and now feel I need to explore, and that Kronosaur. Looks familiar...
Tumblr media
Could've been classic Schleich again; got a species name (in German where applicable), slight marbling in the plastic. But it's ABS, and has no makers' mark or country of origin. Some prominent mold lines, too. Gotta be a knockoff. Nice that they included an average size on the tail, there.
Tumblr media
Bits and bobs are a Sectaurs harness (Pinsor, I believe; I've written about him before, but that may have been on Figurerealm....), two Galaxy Warriors shields, Soundwave's rifle, and the Double Duty Mace, an improbable weapon hailing from Tonka's Rock Lords. Well, the weapons are stupid rare, so I guess this is my cue to pick up another childhood favorite.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
Tumblr media
Rounding out the haul are an early Stephen King movie I actually haven't seen - Time to break out the bingo cards! Or the booze- and an IFC horror that looks like it might not be half bad. That's a couple nights' entertainment already. Also a red drawstring pouch, which will live in the Red Pouches Drawer. Yes, I have two, for light and dark red. Shut up, I can quit when I want to.
Anyhoo, that's another exchange with one of my out-of-state contacts. I guess I mostly do haul breakdowns now. I guess I'll roll with that.

Built the HGUC RGM-79 'GM' over the weekend... And, honestly, it was kind of disappointing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I knew it was going to be a simple kit. It's the GM. That's not an especially-impressive machine. But I was genuinely surprised by just how simple the kit was.
Just two runners of plastic, some polycaps, and a single color-correcting sticker. There's not even any transparent effects parts for the beam saber.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The majority of the kit is molded in a soft, pale, greenish off-white. I hadn't really noticed that in the anime/manga. I thought it was just white.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn't even an attempt at an inner-frame. No mechanical details. Most of the parts are very clearly hollow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The articulation is absolutely terrible. There's no ab-crunch, and hardly any head-tilt. The legs can't raise too far because the waist skirting gets in the way. The arms are very stiff.
And, again, it's a GM - I wasn't expecting anything super-dynamic. These aren't fancy machines. But it was hard just to get a satisfying pose at all.
Tumblr media
I knew there'd be issues with an HG kit released in 2001. And I really wasn't expecting too much from a GM. But I'm still disappointed.
I was pleasantly surprised by how simple the build was on the HGWFM Demi Barding... It built so easy and still produced an awesome figure. This is almost the opposite of that. It built easy and was somehow even worse than expected.
I was so discouraged by the time I was done that I didn't even bother painting the beam saber.

Got a new figure!! Found a good deal on the Godzilla vs Kong Mechagodzilla SH MonsterArts! I had a pre-order waaaay back when that got cancelled by the vendor, and I jumped at the chance to get this for a reduced price so I could complete my MonsterVerse shelf.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t reccomend this figure unless you really love this particular Mechagodzilla. The detail is astounding- it has moving pistons in it’s legs, some sort of shredder in the lower jaw, and a bunch of smaller missile batteries concealed in it’s shoulders and torso. You get the feeling that this figure must have been heavily referenced from digital files from Godzilla vs. Kong. This is a double edged sword, as MechaG’s industrial robot-esque design makes it hard to pose. Because of the aforementioned chest missiles, this figure has no ab-crunch or any flexibility in it’s chest, making it feel stiff. There’s also various die-cast parts along with molded plastic, which gives it a good heft but I can imagine increases the figure cost significantly. There are also no accessories for this figure, aside from open/close alternate claw parts.
Still, I do like this figure along with the other MonsterVerse SH MonsterArts. I liked re-using my lighting crackle effect pieces to give it a Frankenstein’s Monster feel to it, and to tie Mechagodzilla back to it’s King Ghidorah origin. This satisfies my MonsterVerse shelf for now, any others I get will likely be displayed separately. If you look closely, you can also see a vinyl final wars Xillien figure I got recently as well!!

Finding the bookcase that Nathan mentioned was far easier than Roman had expected. Considering that Nathan alleged that Dorhack had an interest in this so called secret room, Roman figured that it would be harder to find. He’d had to sneak past the war currently taking place in the Rivales dining room to get to it though. Lucy, Pia and Elaine were currently shouting over each other at the top of their lungs, making it easy to pass by unnoticed. Emilia had left the chaos, probably to return to the Durant house to gather her thoughts. At this rate, by the time Elaine got around to shouting at her son, she’d already be hoarse. Nathan might just escape his mother’s wrath if she spent all of her energy on reprimanding her new heir. He’d probably get an earful later, but if he played his cards right, Elaine’s natural instincts to avoid parenting might kick in and Nathan might quickly be ignored and merely resented by his mother.
This whole Chun disaster made Roman thankful that his grandparents were dead and buried. He couldn’t imagine trying to tolerate his grandmother telling him who to marry and what career to choose, or putting up with his grandfather’s attempts to push him into the paths of people he deemed worthy. Roman still lived in the shadow of his deceased family members, but at least he had the opportunity to make his own decisions. He shuddered to think about training his own heir one day. It would presumably be Theo, and his son had had enough issues trying to find his purpose. There was no chance of Roman trying to force his son into a mold that he didn’t fit. Well, he hoped so anyway. Who knew what having a teenager that powerful would be like?
The family album lay on the middle shelf of a plain bookcase in the hall. It looked completely ordinary. If Nathan hadn’t mentioned it, Roman would have just passed it by. He had horrible and strange photos of his own family; he didn’t need to dive into what could possibly be Kaeileen’s baby photos, or a scrapbook of Jolanda’s victims.
Tumblr media
With a steadying breath, Roman pulled on the book, only to find that it was bolted to the wooden bookcase. Moving it triggered some mechanism that swung the bookcase around, nearly smashing Roman against the wall as it spun.
When the bookcase had locked back into place, Roman closed his eyes, counted to ten and then prepared himself for the worst thing he could possibly imagine. It was better to prepare for the worst and then be pleasantly surprised if he was wrong. Anything having to do with his mother was always terrible. What would he find in this room? Some kind of bloody altar? A detailed plan to kill Abe and steal away their son? His mother’s recorded confession to every crime she’d been accused of?
Tumblr media
Roman was almost disappointed to see a sparsely decorated room, filled with strange objects.
This isn’t that bad. Some of this stuff could have been stolen from one of Abraham’s secret lairs. After finding the cavern under the Helios house crammed full of bloody inscriptions and an unsettling amount of infant items, this room looks almost normal. Well, normal for Arkhelios anyway.
He tried to make an inventory in his mind of what he was seeing. Over in the corner, a large pile of books called to him. He already had a stash of disturbing literature from his grandmother; he could start his own creepy library of terrifying books if he borrowed a few from the owner of this secret place.
Roman could identify some of the odd items, such as a lie detector machine and what he assumed was the DIY plastic surgery device that had mangled Kaeileen as a teen. Who did they belong to? Jolanda would be the obvious candidate, as the ability to change your face and practice passing lie detector tests would be invaluable for her line of “work”. Then again, Emilia had been an actress in her younger years which was also a line of work that required eternal beauty and an ability to fool others into believing obvious lies.
What kind of phone just hovers in mist like that? Who does it call? Could it connect me to someone who knows about my mother? Was this all that Nathan wanted me to see? What does this all have to do with my mother?
Tumblr media
A loud crash came from downstairs, jolting him from his thoughts. Lucy and Pia were likely escalating their arguments into physical violence, which meant that Elaine might try to find her favourite non-biological child to help calm them down. If he was lucky, she might just think that he gave up and went home. If he wasn’t lucky, Nathan might tell her where he’d gone to save himself. Roman had never been so glad to be able to teleport in his life. Now that he knew about this room, he could just teleport back here when he needed.

With a heavy sigh, he began inspecting the walls of the room for answers. Just because he could return here, it didn’t mean that he wanted to risk the owner of this room finding out that someone had discovered it.
Displayed openly on the wall was a picture of his mother, in her dark form no less. Few were brave enough to even mention Kamalani. All pictures of her outside of the Bellamy house had vanished from the walls of Arkhelios. Roman probably owned every copy of any photo his mother had ever been in. Several were “donated” to Wanda’s office anonymously after Dorhack’s arrival. Omar had kept a few that his wives had found in his wallet after he passed, and with his death, Roman now owned those too. The only exception seemed to be his mother’s art. Now that she was infamous and presumed dead, the value of all of her paintings and sculptures had skyrocketed. He didn’t ever intend on selling anything of his mother’s that he could obsess over, looking for some secret meaning, but it was nice to know that if he ever decided to, maybe they could pay for Theo’s college education after all.
The portrait of his mother was painted in a style that seemed to match her own work. Roman had no idea about the technical ways paintings were made, but Abe occasionally dabbled with art and had opinions on Kamalani’s work. She had been talented enough to earn a comfortable living selling her art, while Abe usually just drew sketches whenever he had the time to draw, so as much as Roman loved him, he usually didn’t pay much attention to Abe’s art critiques.
Would she have taught Theo how to paint if she were here? No, probably not. She seemed pretty insistent on obliterating him out of my life. She never even taught me how to paint. She was too busy running away from me and Dad.
Roman ran a finger along the edge of the portrait’s frame. In tiny print in the bottom right hand corner were the initials RR. He ran through every scrap of information he’d collected about his mother in his mind. There were no relevant names that he could remember that started with R. Her little secret family of Osbert and Keiki had no connection to any names that began with R either. The only name that began with R was his own, and he’d certainly never painted anything worth hanging on a wall.
Curious, he gently eased the painting off of the wall, checking for hidden booby traps. His mother loved traps and there was a decent chance that this secret art collector probably did too if they were such a fan of her work.
There was a small inscription handwritten on the back in pencil.
“To Gio,” Roman read slowly. ”Here’s something to remember me by while I’m gone. I don’t do many self portraits, but I’ll be gone for a long time; long enough for you to forget what I look like. Give me a call if you need to talk. Love...Aunt Romana?”
He sputtered reading the dedication, his mind conjuring ideas that he didn’t know how to process.
“Aunt Romana?” he repeated, staring into the painted eyes of his mother. “RR. Romana Rivales, it has to be. You didn’t name me after your favourite painter...You named me after yourself.”
Suddenly the room felt like it was spinning out of control. What had Ginevra said about Romana? What information had he willfully ignored as boring gossip? His mind raced through his memory, looking for clues.
There’s a picture of Grandma with Mom at an exhibition of Romana’s paintings. It was in that book Theo found. When Grandma was a teenager, Mom took her to see Romana’s work, that’s what the caption said, I think. Grandma just neglected to mention that my mom had yet another secret life that I don’t know about. My mother became a somewhat famous artist under one name, and then did paintings in the same style under another! How many twisted secrets does that woman have? What’s her real name? Why-
Roman paused mid thought, suddenly exhausted from the mental energy of chasing after his mother’s ghost. Beside the troubling portrait, there was an ominous poster of what looked like Emilia- if she had been warped by some kind of dark magic, that was.
I don’t have time for all of this. My mom has two secret lives now, Lucy’s destroyed her entire future with the Rivales, my Mom is leaving paintings to Giovanni, Emilia has something shady she’s hiding....Just for once, can something in my life be normal? All of this on top of running a foreign estate, managing my own house, dealing with three kids, trying to start some kind of career and worrying about pregnant Abe. I need a vacation, except every time I leave the country, some kind of bullshit about my family pops up.
Tumblr media
With another heavy sigh, Roman took some quick photos of the room with his phone, and grabbed as many creepy books as he could carry in his arms. There was no way that he was going back downstairs to be stressed out even further by the Chun siblings. He was teleporting home, pouring himself a drink, and locking his office door.
I can always come back later to finish up investigating my mother’s web of lies. Except- Nathan mentioned that Dorhack knew about this place. Was this his secret area? It doesn’t seem as bloody as he made the Chun house, so I doubt it. What is with the Rivales family anyway? Is my mother really a Rivales, or is that just another lie? Does Dorhack have anything to do with that creepy picture of Emilia? It’s not pink enough to be any part of the void that I’ve seen, but- No. No more speculation. Just day drinking until Abe and the kids are home. We can worry about all of this together.

Linemount/T91Tactical Replica (Left) vs Original Colt (Right) CAR15 Handguards
Finding a good substitute for replica 6-Hole CAR15 "Skinny" Handguards has been one of the bigger stymies when it comes to cloning retro carbines, as a majority of the solutions on the market fall horribly short of looking the part.
Here, I'm going to give my two cents on the "better" of all the options out there, which are the replicas offered by Linemount, or in my case, T91Tactical.
Visually, these replicas are near-perfect. The finish is a cut above the rest and only distinguishable from originals by the feel and color of the plastic and the lack of errors in the mold.
Now for the bad part - easily where the Linemount/T91Tactical repros fall short is the quality of the plastic used - I believe they used some form of ABS or something similar, as they're extremely lightweight and flimsy-feeling compared to rock-solid Colts.
There is even a visual difference in the quality as well, as the replicas flex slightly when squeezed and creak like an airsoft toy when installed on a rifle while original Colts do neither of these things.
In conclusion, I do not believe these are worth the $60 price tag T91Tactical charges unless you're absolutely dying for a decent visual stand-in to originals. Linemount offered a better deal at just around $30, but it doesn't seem like they'll be restocking anytime soon.
I can't speak for the quality of the recent H&R/PSA 'GI Quality' replicas, which seems to have an identical finish to the Linemount handguards, but cost an extra $10 markup. Though initial testimony seems to say they're solid and rumor has it that they're made by a contractor that used to make originals, so it might be worth looking into if durability is something you covet.
tl;dr: Linemount replicas look amazing, but feel terrible.
