Was totally prepared to not draw something for Halloween but inspiration struck.
This is my oc Adelyte, by the way. She lives in computers and is somewhat homicidal. She's probably upset she's stuck in Windows 7.
Version with no effects under the cut.

[ID copied from alt text: A full body digital drawing of Kempa (she/her), a PC from my D&D campaign, flying high in a clouded night sky. This is a corrupted version of Kempa's normal form. Kempa is a buff bronze Dragonborn with large splayed out tattered wings and glowing green eyes. Slightly off-center on Kempa's chest is a large lightning strike scar with breaks the scales surrounding it and spreading out across her chest, arms and crawling up the side of her face. Her bottom half is heavily obscured by dark clouds, the faint outline of her lightning charred legs barley visible. Her hands are held aloft, a large, bright arc of lighting traveling between them. Kempa looks towards the viewer with an intense stare, made all the more frightening by her large, sharp toothed smile. End description.]

I have Covid so I'm doing a Mr. Sunshine rewatch because I can't focus on anything else and after finishing ep 1 it's already making me S C R E A M with how good it is.
Everyone is depicted with such nuance, and knowing that the main characters will actually be the children unwillingly carrying on the legacy of what happens in this episode makes me note things that I didn't the first time around.
They have all, in one way or another, been failed by the unjustness of their country and their environment, and the show explores the various ways of trying to deal with it and to make sense of what's going on around them in light of that, and knowing this makes even the mean-spirited, near-cartoonish anger and villainy of the antagonist actually make sense: "My country failed me, it never did anything for me, so I will tear it apart and sell it piece by piece to forcibly take what it never gave me" actually seems almost like a reasonable reaction in light of all the death, injustice, and general callousness going on. But then on the other hand you have the soldiers who pretty much know that they've been sacrificed and left to die by the leadership, but also know that no matter the unjustness of it all there's nobody else standing between them and the innocent civilians.
Basically I really like this show because it doesn't shy away from the shittiness of the situation and the reasonable anger - the victims of colonization are far from perfect and idealized, their social structure was cruel to large swaths of its population - while also having a core of "fighting for what's right is worthwhile even when it's hopeless because there are innocent people worth defending", and "people don't have to be perfect blameless victims to not deserve oppression/colonization" and I like this a lot.
