13 Ways to Grow a Passion for the Things of God
Psalm 119:89
How to Develop a Passion for the Things of God
Hang around passionate people.
Luke 11:1 “Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” —-the disciples saw Jesus’s passion for prayer and they were drawn to have a similar passion. A fascinating learning experience is to take…

REJOICING IN AFFLICTION
Image by Tasy Hong from Pixabay
Psalm 119:67 (KJV) – “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.”
The Psalmist is rejoicing in affliction. He says he did not obey God’s word before he was afflicted. Before problems came into his life, he went astray from God. The challenges he faced caused him to start regarding God’s divine word.
Affliction can lead to…

God’s Wake-Up Calls
By Greg Laurie
“Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.”
—Psalm 119:67
Sometimes God will allow suffering and sickness in our lives to get our attention. We may be rebelling against Him, and He wants us to change our direction. He wants it to stop.
We see an example of this in the life of Jonah. God told Jonah to go preach to the Ninevites, but Jonah went in the opposite…

Psalms chapter 119
Teth
65 TETH. Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
68 Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.
69 The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.
70 Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

(Psalms 119:67)
Sometimes it can feel like the way God is dealing with us is a little on the harsh side.
We know from His word that He has nothing but good plans in store for us and that He Himself is good; but there are times when you can find yourself in situations where it's intimidating, painful, and all of the doors that leads out of that situation are closed and locked!
I've been there before, so I know just how displeasing those situations can be. But when the Lord gives us time to work on something ourselves and we don't do it, He'll step in and put us in a place where we are forced to deal with it.
Those situations are not so much aimed at punishment but rather at correction.
God knows how stubborn and rebellious His children can be - even towards Him. And He knows that unless He intervenes, we will continue to wander away from Him and His commandments and could even find ourselves facing consequences that we will regret.
So what seems like a unbearable and unloving situation is actually God's merciful hands correcting us.

It’s hard not to, but I don’t even feel sorry for my own self in my consequences because it teaches me to trust God’s instructions, knowing that His instructions are to protect me from the consequences in the first place. Once you have suffered as many consequences as I have, you trust His instructions with every fiber of your being. ~ “It was good that I was afflicted, that I might learn to obey Your Word” Psalm 119:71 ~ Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your Word.” Psalm 119:67 ~ Your boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places for me, indeed I have a delightful inheritance.” Psalm 16:6

12th February >> Mass Readings (USA)
Monday, Sixth of Week in Ordinary Time
(Liturgical Colour: Green: B (2))
First Reading
James 1:1-11
The testing of your faith produces perseverance so that you may be perfect and complete.
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes in the dispersion, greetings.
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it. But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways.
The brother in lowly circumstances should take pride in high standing, and the rich one in his lowliness, for he will pass away “like the flower of the field.” For the sun comes up with its scorching heat and dries up the grass, its flower droops, and the beauty of its appearance vanishes. So will the rich person fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 119:67, 68, 71, 72, 75, 76
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.

but now I hold to your promise.
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.
You are good and bountiful;
teach me your statutes.
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
that I may learn your statutes.
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.
The law of your mouth is to me more precious
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.
I know, O LORD, that your ordinances are just,
and in your faithfulness you have afflicted me.
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.
Let your kindness comfort me
according to your promise to your servants.
R/ Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.

Mark 8:11-13
Why does this generation seek a sign?
The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.

Pain, God’s calling to heal
“Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.”
Psalm 119:67
In my previous post, Healing from Christian Stoicism, I personally defined healing as the process of becoming spiritually, emotionally and physically healthy once again. I truly want to stress on that definition for the rest of these series which I have entitled My Healing Path.
Furthermore, one important matter…

Reading 1
JAS 1:1-11
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
to the twelve tribes in the dispersion, greetings.
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters,
when you encounter various trials,
for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
And let perseverance be perfect,
so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
But if any of you lacks wisdom,
he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly,
and he will be given it.
But he should ask in faith, not doubting,
for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea
that is driven and tossed about by the wind.
For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord,
since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways.
The brother in lowly circumstances
should take pride in high standing,
and the rich one in his lowliness,
for he will pass away “like the flower of the field.”
For the sun comes up with its scorching heat and dries up the grass,
its flower droops, and the beauty of its appearance vanishes.
So will the rich person fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
