okay so just. play connect the dots with me for a second. Girolamo Basso della Rovere is Giuliano della Rovere's (Pope Julius II) cousin. Ascanio Sforza was a long time rival, and later ex-enemy of Giiuliano's. this kind of familial mirroring in the tombs, the way that Ascanio is being subsumed into a matching visual with someone of della Rovere's family is. interesting. because it goes well beyond the expected patron-client relationship between the pope and his cardinals. like, these were companion monuments.

there's also a kind of tragic romantic violence to it, given Ascanio's persistent loyalty to his family and Milan, and Ludovico's plans to have Ascanio's body brought back to Milan in the event of his death and interred in the same chapel as Beatrice d'Este.

Overlord is dead! Yahooooooo!!!

Now, though this is for sure a momentous occasion, as this is my first time completing the main game of EO2U after numerous failed playthroughs, the final boss was kinda sorta... not as hard as I thought it was gonna be.

Granted, I am playing on Standard (because oh my gah!!!! enemies hit SO damn hard on expert and I like to play video games for enjoyment, not suffering), but in my experience it's honestly not much less difficult than EO5's Advanced.

When I fought EO5's final boss, you may recall from the post I made soon after that that fight came down to someone getting disabled/killed, getting healed, and then someone else getting disabled or killed again. Rinse and repeat for some 10 or so turns until I finally had enough leeway to kill the guy dead.

Fighting the Overlord, though, not many disables were thrown about (and nobody ever even died)---the only ailment anyone was ever inflicted with was Fear, which only has a 50% (?) chance to shut you down---and I didn't see OL throw out any binds. Still, I was running a Chain team in 5. In a party so reliant on every member doing their part, even one party member getting put out of commission for any amount of time was generally much more detrimental than in my EO2U party containing two Alchemists blowing stuff up independently.

That aside, I've been having a great time with the game!!! Beating it for the first time is huge and I am patting myself on the back so hard right now

#etrian odyssey #etrian odyssey 2 untold #eo spoilers #eo2u spoilers #yes yes I'm playing on the easy mode everybody laugh #something something skill issue #anyways the team I used was Protector/Medic (rip my sovereign)/Alchemist/Alchemist again/Hexer #alchemist 1 and hexer have sovereign and war magus portraits respectively thanks to portrait editing #they were actually reclassed from medic and survivalist #also it seems as though in both 5 and 2u the solution to my teambuilding woes was just to double up on classes #very convenient that I just so happened to love alchemists and rovers enough to be fine with using two of each #also palmchemist and compression alchemist play differently enough that it never felt repetitive (same for hawk and hound rover) #well thanks again for reading bye bye <3 <3 <3

biographies and the lives they're about contain multitudes, especially with ascanio who lived through interesting times, was responsible for some of those interesting times, and also generally just. did A Lot. so much so that this is from the preface of the pellegrini biography, and it's an 800+ page biography

anyway!!!! the ending chapter of the ascanio biography did critical levels of emotional damage to me that I haven't recovered from, so now I'm drawing comics to cope
