Nowaday I just find it very funny on the fact that I has encounter so many thing that coulda break my shell like:
Favorite animes before my egg broke: LWA, Flip Flapper, Zombieland Saga, Kill La Kill, Princess Principal, Yuru camp,Bodacious Space Pirates(which I has to noted is my young childhood favorite), Izetta: The Last Witch, The place further than the universe, release the spyce, and few other I can’t remember
Lot of Yuri mangas and mangas like New Game!
The fact “New Game!” Is the one kick off my life path to wanting to make arts and games and stuff
Daily go on dyntasy reader
LOVED the shit out of barbies movies and MLP
Frozen was my favorite movie for some time
Alway wanted to watch Sailor Moon but felt that I shouldn’t for some reasons when I was little
Had awaking of the fact that Yuri is just better(pretty sure Kase-san is the one to open my eye to yuri)
Making myself feminine af when I thought of my future self
That one time I has like a deep daydream of what it would like to be a girl for a day
Would love to has shapeshift power and be a girl “for some reasons”
The first porn I ever found was two husky af gay furry just RAW fucking each other
UNDERTALE was my hyperfixation for some time
What it took was listening to raison d'etre by Eve, crying, and having a existential crisis in the bathroom.

qb's top 10 seasonal anime of 2022
Tumblr media
2022 in anime was a year of many known quantities, but what really ended up sticking out were the shows few saw coming before they took the world by storm, and before we knew it, everyone was watching a guitar-playing pink blob with severe anxiety while drawing her band on every album cover ever made. 2022 was the year I watched a new Gundam for the first time, I experienced unforgettable trash gems like Pride of Orange, ESTAB-LIFE, and Extreme Hearts, and I was let down more by the wasted potential of the Biscuit Hammer anime than any anime I've ever watched, easily. All considered, this year was unusually good on average for the shows I finished, so I ended up with a glut of series I wanted to put on this list that I had to cut down for time. I would make this list longer, but you know, then it might come out in 2024.
Top 10 in order:
Tumblr media
Cyberpunk Edgerunners - Studio TRIGGER's take on the world of Cyberpunk 2077 was an unexpected contender - it was announced so long ago I sort of forgot about it, I wasn't expecting much from the batch release of a Netflix-Trigger anime after BNA's messy release, I underestimated the potential of Cyberpunk 2077 as a setting after the very public trash fire of the video game, and it should have been overshadowed by the next thing after a quick Netflix dump in the middle of a season. Should have had its lunch eaten by the similarly edgy violent action of Chainsawman, should have been yet another failed videogame anime, but none of this stopped Cyberpunk Edgerunners from being the anime I enjoyed the most from 2022.
Tumblr media
Bocchi the Rock - the breakout hit school band anime of 2022 was also relatively unexpected, although I at least knew it was stacked with talented animators going in, I didn't predict the sheer memetic power of the result. This series shatters the fourth wall over its knee and livens up an already pretty funny manga with demented, free-flowing gags in a particular way that wouldn't work at all without detailed and well planned sequences which come off so naturally it's hard to believe this was originally a (lightly subversive but still) 4 panel strip. The album cover redraws were the best thing to come out of Bocchi and I hope they never end.
Tumblr media
Pop Team Epic 2 - some kind of fucked up comic strip but aoi shouta is there? I thought they promised they wouldn't make this
Tumblr media
Mob Psycho 100 III - everything I said about the second season of the popular shonen manga adaptation but moreso, it finishes out the series in exactly the way I hoped it would. Third OP is just mad flexing. look how many hands we can draw. Episode 8 changed my life forever. knowing they nailed the landing retroactively improves the whole series for me.
Tumblr media
Do It Yourself - original anime by studio PINE JAM, DIY is pure aesthetic hobby-ani with a mildly entertaining cast of extremely animated characters. very enjoyable but may not have enough momentum or things happening for some. soundtrack is another standout by y0c1e but at a noticeably different speed from Gleipnir and Spyce.
Tumblr media
Kaguya-sama Love is War: Ultra Romantic - everything I said about the second season of the popular romcom manga adaptation but moreso, it reaches the climactic peak of the series in exactly the way I hoped it would. I'm still reeling from the entire rap battle episode (sub and dub), and can't believe the Starship Troopers ED was real.
Tumblr media
My Dress Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru) - excellent manga adaptation, effectively gets across the dangerously horny but strangely wholesome vibe of the series.
Tumblr media
The Demon Girl Next Door Season 2 - everything I said about the first season of the popular magical girl romcom manga adaptation but moreso, it reaches an inflection point in the manga with exactly the same manic pacing and blatant disregard for breathing room I hoped it would. out of everything else on my list I hope the most this one gets another season, because it kind of needs it.
Tumblr media
Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch from Mercury - original anime in the long-running GUNDAM series which is sort of like Robot Jox for kids. This is definitely the first time I've watched anything from Gundam before it was completed and I immediately regretted not having more to watch as a direct consequence. Half of my enjoyment right now is coming from experiencing it in tandem with the rest of the internet, but it's sure to hold up in retrospect as one of the best modern Gundam seasons. Look forward to a future very annoying post by me claiming g-witch ripped off Granbelm.
Tumblr media
Call of the Night - another above and beyond manga adaptation, probably the anime OP of the year. It strongly intensified my longing for studio SHAFT to not be dead anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Assorted Shoutouts
Going by rating number scale rules, Chainsawman and Spy X Family should be here, but I'm not going by rating, I'm going by what I feel deserves more attention. those anime already have too much recognition.
Tumblr media
The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road) - If you asked me what the most hidden gem is from 2022, this is what I would answer immediately. Irresponsibly complicated and unusual take on the hated isekai genre in the most disrespectful way possible, twisting anything familiar about that tired setting into an unrecognizable pretzel shape. Recommending this is a challenge, because the less I explain the better it is, but nobody would want to watch this on its face. Everyone should watch it though.
Tumblr media
Ya Boy Kongming - banger soundtrack and some eye-popping color choice elevates this manga adaptation from average to a certified Cool Time.
Tumblr media
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: STONE OCEAN - My favorite (not best) Jojo part, the anime greatly improves the readability of the last third from the manga. Tokyo Mew Mew New - It's almost comforting how little they tried to update the love triangle of incredibly shit boyfriends in this remarkably normal magical girl anime reboot. I pleaded for someone to make a normal regular magical girl anime reboot and they delivered something totally acceptable.
Reiwa Di Gi Charat - Dejiko drags society kicking and screaming into the Reiwa era. This is the anime of all time of 1999, 2022 and 2023.
Tumblr media
qb - friend of the no show (@queuebae on twitter still, unfortunately)

NEW ALBUM: MAVINS - CHAPTER X
Tumblr media
Independent Nigerian label Mavin Records celebrate its 10th anniversary with all-star compilation album Chapter X. The compilation marks a milestone moment that will see each artist in all their glory as we simultaneously celebrate the continuous efforts of the formidable label. Under the leadership of legendary producer Don Jazzy, Mavin Records has been at the forefront of music business conversations since starting the label in 2012. Mavin Records have broken onto the global scene with tangible success to show for it and their roster is now comprised of ten artists, two songwriters and five producers who have cornered their own artistry.
Spanning over 10-tracks, the album sets a new precedence for Mavin's burgeoning roster consisting of Rema, Ayra Starr, LADIPOE, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Magixx, Crayon, and Johnny Drille. The previous single from the compilation, ‘Overdose (Overloading)’ amassed over 200 million streams, over 40 million views on YouTube and over 1.7 million creations on Tik Tok. Last month, they released ‘Won Da Mo’, an all-star single led by up-tempo production from fellow-Mavin Records producer Andre Vibes who represents the sonic worlds of each artist throughout the album. Intending to take over dancefloors far and wide, ‘Amina’ is an anthemic track that sees Rema and Ayra Starr trade verses as they maintain the high energy. The project is rounded off with the dreamy love ballad ‘You’ before ‘Jara’, which includes a guest verse from Don Jazzy, who provides additional words across the outro. Mavin’s plans of global dominance have aligned with the rise of Afrobeats’ influence on a worldwide scale. The mission is to continue pushing forward and re-writing history following an exciting year of accomplishments in 2022.

Thoughts on Lycoris Recoil
Tumblr media
I finally caught up to Lycoris Recoil just in time to be ready for the finale. It’s been a wild ride of a show, but one I’ve enjoyed. All in all this is a surprisingly good anime and one I can recommend to my friends save for a few caveats here and there. I honestly expected it to be really simplistic in its storytelling, but it’s got its taken its premise of school girl spies/assassins seriously to an extent and I’ve found myself enthralled by it a little.
But first, that synopsis.
Lycoris Recoil focuses on the secret organization of peacekeepers within Japan known as DA, or Direct Attack, and their female operators known as Lycoris. These girls are Japan’s protectors and assassins hiding in school girl uniforms, trained to hunt down and kill any threat the government points to without question. The story itself focuses on two unique Lycoris. Takina Inoue, a straitlaced and reserved girl that was recently put on probation due to disobeying orders, and Chisato Nishikigi, an outgoing and bubbly girl that is seen as the best Lycoris in the organization but is known for her wild streak and pacifistic methods. The show focuses on the general shenanigans the two get up while an overarching plot takes place.
Now, with that all said, much like in my Samurai Warriors 5 essay I’ll get straight to the big question some of us more experience and older anime fans are asking:
What is the difference between this and Release the Spyce?
Tumblr media
For those new or a bit forgetful, Release the Spyce was a 2018 anime that focused on Momo Minamoto, a shy young high school girl that happened upon a group of high school spies that protect their town from the shadows, stopping various crimes and underground happenings while using a special drug known as “Spice”. Much like Lycoris Recoil this is a comedy-action anime with some not-so-subtle yuri undertones and fun and light fanservice. And this isn’t even the only original anime to try a female-focused action yuri angle. There’s Katana Maidens, Assault Lily, Hina Logi ~from Luck & Logic~, Princess Principal, Black Fox, and the list goes on. The idea of an all-female/female focused cast doing cool action things with a hint of fanservice isn’t new, but this one has certainly been doing numbers. And just to be clear I’m not saying that out of spite, I’m rather fascinated by the fact that this show pushed into popularity when others are just pretty niche in their fanbase.
As for why that is the case I think I can boil it down to two things: The amount of main characters, and the more focused tone.
The Characters
Lycoris Recoil focuses on just two major characters, Takane and Chisato. Most cute girl action series like the ones I’ve mentioned above usually have a bigger ensemble, about five more often than not. Release the Spyce had five girls, Katana Maidens had five girls, Assault Lily had... too many girls to follow along well. There was usually always two main girls to play off each other, Momo and Yuki in Release the Spyce, Riri and Yuyu in Assault Lily, Kanata and Hiyori in Katana Maidens, so on and so on. But Recoil only has Chisato and Takane as the main characters and keeps its side cast strictly to the side. This keep things focused and lets the writers really push the dynamic the two have without much distraction. There are very few cutaways to the side cast or other Lycoris and when there are it’s usually to the effect of showing how the two main girls impact the setting and tone. There’s no random jam an arc about a side character and the overarching plot is hinted at enough times that it doesn’t come out of nowhere.
And the dynamic these two have in general is very fun to watch. Chisato is an absolute ray of sunshine which plays off well against Takane’s more pragmatic and blunt nature. Seeing Takane come out of her shell a little bit more every episode was a joy to watch and experience and hope the next few anime originals that use this premise realize that.
The Setting and Tone
This is the big thing that I think this anime does to separate it from the others. This show takes its premise of schoolgirl assassins more seriously than the others. Not by much, I think Princess Principal probably took their premise the most seriously out of all the anime I listed, but Recoil isn’t afraid to remind the audience that you’re watching a show about government assassins. For as bubbly as Chisato is she gives some pretty massive hints she’s been against the idea of killing and Lycoris as a whole for awhile. The general brutality and fatality of how Takane does battle shows she isn’t afraid to kill if need, and does so by default.
Without going into spoilers, the latter half of the series goes from around Release the Spyce in terms of tone to Pyscho Pass real quick. The lack of extra characters also helps keep the tone focused as I mentioned above. Takane’s pragmatism bounces off of Chisato’s technical pacifism really well and helps balance the tone out, especially when things get serious and you honestly feel for Takane fighting against her more ruthless nature, learning to embrace Chisato’s way of combat to an extent.
Criticisms
As much as I’d love to gush about this anime I can’t really say much aside from it be general dumb fun and a joy to watch if you like over-the-top action shows. And for me to go into specifics aside from what I mentioned above would be spoiling some of the deeper plot.
And... I have my fair share of issues with this series.
Not many, and most of them boil down to nitpicks and preferences, but I have quite a few annoyances with this series. And like usual I’ll be putting them in list form for the sake of simplicity.
Fanservice: This anime really likes showing you a bit of fanservice, at least in the first half. Nothing that’s a dealbreaker for me, but there is an entire episode focused on getting Takane panties. They thankfully don’t show anything, but... it’s clear these girls are as much characters as they are marketing products. That’s sort of the give and take with anime originals like this, but you can hear the printing press for the eventual artbook popping out pages and see what outfit that pose-able figurine is going to be wearing by the end of the season.
Chisato: Okay, this is going to be a really weird take, but Chisato so clearly a manic pixie dream girl that it kind of annoys me. That’s not a bad bad thing since the show is more focused on getting Takane into a brighter, less taciturn state, but it’s still played so straight that it annoys me a little. Chisato’s happy-go-lucky, devil-may-care attitude is fun, but I’d like to have seen Chisato have an arc as well, something to parallel Takane’s arc. While Takane is learning to be more open about her feelings and understanding the importance of pacifism Chisato could learn (or relearn) to take her job as Lycoris more seriously and understand sometimes lethal or straightforward violence is needed in a job where you actively kill people. That’s a bit of greed on my end but I’ll stand by it.
DA & Worldbuilding: Again, going to try and keep spoilers to a minimum, but I’m a little mixed on DA as a whole and how we, the audience, are meant to view them. Given future events and how the overarching plot is coming towards I was honestly rooting for the bad guys here and there. DA... has its issues as an organization, and with recent episodes it shows just how bad the organization can be as a structure of the government. However... given how episode 12 ended (again, no spoilers) it feels like its backpedaling on some of that intrigue for a cleaner, happier ending than it should have.
Anyway, that’s it for me. I’ll probably have something else soon to discuss enough. For now, I’ll be seeing you folks later.
