After nearly two-hundred live performances spanning two international tours, Louis Tomlinson is celebrating the end of era on the road that spanned three years. On Thursday, the musician shared Live, a record captured across 15 different shows in 15 different cities.
“I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 3 years touring the world twice over, the feeling I get sharing those live moments will be with me forever,” Tomlinson shared in a statement. “To be able to record these songs from all over the world and put them out as an album like this feels so special, and a real tribute to the fans who make each and every show feel unique and incredible. Thank you! Enjoy!”
The album features live performances from both the Louis Tomlinson World Tour — which was cut short in 2020 and resumed in 2022 — and the Faith in the Future World Tour, which kicked off in 2023 in support of the singer’s sophomore studio album of the same name. Combined, the tours included 170 shows in 47 countries across 5 continents.
Tomlinson captured performances of popular singles “We Made It” and “Walls” from his debut solo album Walls and “Written All Over Your Face,” “Silver Tongues,” and “Out of My System” from Faith in the Future. The album features recordings from London, Nashville, Vancouver, Barcelona, Chicago, Budapest, Paris, and more.
The digital version of Live is available now, with physical editions for the record set for release on Aug. 23 on a double CD and 2LP picture disc vinyl.

Louis Tomlinson has dropped a surprise album ‘Live’ – featuring songs that he recorded at 15 shows across 15 different cities.
Announced and shared yesterday (April 25), the album comes after the singer and former One Direction member embarked on two world tours over the past three years – playing just shy of 200 shows globally.
Now, a variety of performances from both tours – the ‘Louis Tomlinson World Tour’ and the ‘Faith in the Future World Tour’ – have been compiled into a new live album, which is available now.
Fifteen songs are included in the tracklist, and each was recorded in a different city, at a different show from across the three-year run. The album comes in both digital and physical formats, and features his singles including ‘Bigger Than Me’, ‘We Made It, ‘Walls’ and ‘Out Of My System’, alongside fan favourite album tracks, all released live for the very first time.
“I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 3 years touring the world twice over. The feeling I get sharing those live moments will be with me forever,” Tomlinson said in a statement. “To be able to record these songs from all over the world and put them out as an album like this feels so special, and a real tribute to the fans who make each and every show feel unique and incredible. Thank you! Enjoy!”
There are four exclusive tracks split between the physical editions of ‘Live’, including a special version of the One Direction classic ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’ – which is available only on the double CD.
Accompanying video clips of compiled tour footage will be shared on Louis’s social channels to support the release, showcasing a glimpse into his past three years on the road and 170 performances.

His debut album arrived in the firm of 2020’s ‘Walls’, which has sold over 1.5 million copies, and the follow-up was called ‘Faith In The Future’. The latter went to Number One in the UK, Spain and Belgium, and Top 5 in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and across Europe.

11/13/2023. Another Romani teen shot dead by Greek police
By Bernard Rorke
Around midnight on Saturday, 11 November, Greek police shot a 17-year-old Romani boy after a car chase in the town of Thebes, north of Attica. According to media reports, the car, with four passengers, two boys and two girls aged 15-17, failed to stop when ordered. In the ensuing pursuit, the car was surrounded by police in a dead-end alley in the Liontari village.
Witnesses said a gun shot was heard, fatally wounding the 17-year-old. The police claim that one of the underage passengers tried to snatch the policeman’s gun which ‘went off’ killing the boy. The victim’s brother claimed that it was the policeman who fired the gun.
In a statement, the Minister for Citizen’s protection Giannis Oikonomou expressed condolences to the family of the young victim and stressed that “the circumstances under which the sad incident took place are under investigation by the competent authorities.” An autopsy will take place to determine the exact cause of death.
Police shoot dead three Romani teens in three years
This is the third such incident in three years, and based on past experience, the police account should be viewed with deep suspicion. On 14 December 2022, more than 1,500 mourners gathered in a Roma neighbourhood in Thessaloniki for the funeral of Romani teenager Kostas Frangoulis, who died of his wounds after being shot in the head by a police officer during a chase over an unpaid EUR20 gas station bill.
In the immediate wake of the shooting, about one hundred Romani men erected barricades and set fire to rubbish bins outside the hospital, and 1500 protestors clashed with police in the streets of Thessaloniki. Not many there credited the official claim that the victim’s actions had “placed the lives of the police officers in immediate danger.” The fatal shooting sparked three nights of rioting and protests in Greece.
One year earlier, on 23 October 2021, seven Greek motorcycle police officers in pursuit of a stolen car opened fire on the three unarmed Romani occupants of the vehicle, killing 18-year-old Nikos Sabanis, and seriously wounding a 16-year-old. Between 30 and 40 shots are clearly audible in a video recording of the incident, and a radio conversation between the police operational centre and the attending officers shows that the officers were aware that the occupants of the vehicle were three Roma.
The police press release after the incident mentioned injuries to the seven police officers, that the deceased was 20 years-old and had a criminal record, and that the minor who was shot only had light injuries. These were all later proven to be false; no police officers were injured, the victim was 18 and had no criminal record, and the 16-year-old boy was seriously wounded.
‘The European tradition for protecting minorities’
In the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests across European capitals in June 2020, the Greek EU Commissioner Margaritis Schinas, responsible for ‘promoting our European way of life’ claimed that Europe does not have issues “that blatantly pertain to police brutality or issues of race transcending into our systems”, and that because of the “European tradition for protecting minorities, we have less issues than they have in the States".
Following the police shooting of Nikos Sabanis, in an open letter to the Greek Prime Minister on the 27 October 2021, the European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI) and the ERRC urged the authorities to investigate the possibility of racial motivation behind the disproportionate use of force; expressed concern at the national news coverage which triggered a wave of anti-Roma sentiment, with the prosecutor referring to Roma as a ‘social menace’; and called for a swift response from the competent authorities to declare that hate speech is unacceptable, and that there is no impunity for law enforcement concerning crimes against Roma or other ethnic minorities.
This latest killing of yet another Romani teenager serves as a tragic reminder that when it comes to policing Roma and other racialized minorities, contrary to Commissioner Schinas’s assertion, Greece and the European Union does indeed ‘have issues.’

At exactly 11am on a Saturday in mid-November, hundreds of students from Luton Sixth Form College streamed out of their school, gathering outside in a sea of black, white and red keffiyehs and Palestinian flags. They carried banners and placards saying “Bombing kids is not self-defence” and “This is no ‘conflict’ it’s genocide”, referring to Israel’s war on Gaza after Hamas’s October 7 attacks on southern Israel. Student organisers of the rally read out speeches against the war, in which Israeli bombs and artillery fire have now killed more than 21,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 8,000 children. Yet Israel wasn’t the only target of criticism at the rally: The students were protesting against their college’s links to an arms company that had supplied weapons and advanced military platforms to Israel. The walkout was organised by the school’s student council after its chair, 18-year-old Hassan Sajjad, was approached by students critical of the senior leadership at the college, who some students felt had failed to address or acknowledge strong student sentiment towards the Israel-Gaza conflict. But a week later, Sajjad and the other council members were informed by the school leadership that their entire council had been disbanded, months before their term was supposed to end in April 2024. Their student council email communication was also suspended. “It shattered my understanding of democracy in college, and the idea of freedom of speech and ‘British values’,” Sajjad said. Since the start of the war, the United Kingdom has seen unrelenting demonstrations urging the government to call for a ceasefire. Yet as students in schools, colleges and universities across the UK also joined the chorus condemning the war, they have also been reprimanded, subtly or explicitly, for their pro-Palestine advocacy in several instances, igniting concerns around freedom of speech. Luton, a town less than 48km (30 miles) north of London with a majority ethnic minority population, has been at the centre of that debate after the backlash faced by students over their walkout. It all started when students discovered that their school had played host to a weapons giant with ties to Israel’s military.

‘Protest to have your voice heard’
Though Israel is today a major arms exporter, it continues to import weapons from the West. The United States is its biggest military partner and the source of 83 percent of Israel’s weapons imports between 1950 and 2020. But the UK has also been a steady military ally to Israel. It has licensed arms worth more than 442 million pounds ($563m) to Israel between May 2015 and August 2022 and is now facing a legal challenge in the High Court from Palestinian human rights groups.
[...]
A walkout wasn’t the student council’s first planned course of action against the war. The council – who represent over 3,000 students – suggested organising a fundraiser for Gaza and the occupied West Bank. As the civilian death count mounted in Gaza, the council also flagged the college’s relationship with Leonardo[, one of the world's largest arms companies]. For about a month, their requests were met with silence. Then, the school’s leadership said the students could fundraise but only for an event that wasn’t specifically for Palestinians. “If students aren’t being catered for and the [school leaders] are not respecting the student council – the people who represent the thousands – then you only have one option left: that’s to protest to have your voice heard”, Sajjad said. On November 18, hundreds of students walked out of their lesson in what was a peaceful protest. “We wanted students to know this is your legal right to protest, and you shouldn’t feel pressured or afraid to protest”, said Arsalan Ilyas, 17, a student at the college.

In early 2020, @mystery-moose decided my cinematic education could no longer be allowed to persist with such egregious holes. He and I and @eponymous-rose and @silksieve and @fistfulofgammarays started a discord server to watch movies every Saturday night, and shortly after came @probablylostrightnow and @servantofclio and @jadesabre301 and @annalyia and @bettydice, and suddenly we had something like bottled lightning held in a jar in our hands.
It couldn't have come at a better time--the pandemic struck about a month later--and what started as a way to expand my our horizons has become a precious thing. We've watched movies together, celebrated birthdays together, and we've traveled together too, to Colorado and Chicago and the Grand Canyon and a half-dozen other little gatherings across the entire country.
It's not an easy thing for a bunch of 30-40+'s to get together every week. But we make the time, rain or shine, only missing one single week where all but one of us were traveling, and the joy it's brought me (along with the knowledge of the greatest movie of all time, Kung Fu Hustle) is comparable to nothing else. Today is our slightly delayed three-year anniversary celebration.
Happy movie night anniversary, ya pineapples!

According to data from the Observatory of the Public Ministry of Paraguay published this Saturday on the occasion of Paraguayan Women’s Day, so far in the first two months of 2024, five cases of feminicide have been reported in the two months of 2024, five cases of feminicide have been reported in the country.
All of these cases, between January and February, left fifteen orphaned children, of which four are minors, according to the Prosecutor’s Office report sent to the media.
“A total of four alleged attackers were charged and one took his own life,” the communication detailed.
These data were released in the midst of the commemoration of the Paraguayan national women’s day, a date that celebrates the role of women in the reconstruction of the nation after the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870) that the Paraguayan army fought against Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.
The Observatory of the Prosecutor’s Office of Paraguay also reported 50 victims of attempted feminicide from January to December 2023.
In total, 44 cases are being investigated for this punishable act. 28% of the victims (14 women) are between 30 and 45 years old and 22% (11 women) are between 18 and 29 years old.
The data showed that six adult women between 46 and 65 years old (6%), two women between 0 and 13 years old and one adolescent between 14 and 17 years old also suffered attacks.
The age of 16 victims of attempted feminicide last year was not specified, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the data, 68% of the complaints, representing 30 causes, were registered in the months of March, June, August, September and October 2023.
The Paraguayan Penal Code states that “the criminal frameworks provided for completed punishable acts are applicable to the attempt, therefore the expected penalty is up to 30 years of imprisonment,” stated the communication from the Public Ministry.
Between 2018 and so far in 2024, 244 women were victims of feminicide.
In 2018, 50 victims were registered; in 2019, 37; in 2020, 36; in 2021, 37; in 2022, 36; and in 2023, women murdered for sexist reasons rose to 43.

JEWS COME OUT AGAINST HARRY INTERVIEW WITH GABOR MATE
Prince Harry was today urged to reconsider holding an online event to promote his memoir, Spare, with a 'toxic trauma' doctor who has compared Hamas to the Jewish heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising against the Nazis and once branded Israel's government terrorists.
Gabor Maté, 79 - who has also defended Palestinian rocket fire at Israeli civilians - will join the Duke of Sussex on Saturday for an 'intimate' £17-a-head virtual conference to discuss 'living with loss and the importance of personal healing', followed by a live Q&A.
Rabbi Abraham Cooper, of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in New York, told the Jewish Chronicle: 'Whoever made the arrangements to have this individual appear with Prince Harry, did him no favours. If Prince Harry knew this man's record and still chose him for the interview, our center would criticise the prince for such an inappropriate choice.'
Harry's memoirs are dominated by the death of his mother Princess Diana in 1997. Buckingham Palace will be watching what he says at 5pm GMT tomorrow, especially after it emerged this week that King Charles decided to evict the Sussexes from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor just 24 hours after the release of Spare.
Dr Maté, a Hungarian-Canadian physician, has his own harrowing story. Born in Nazi-occupied Budapest in 1944, when he was five months old his maternal grandparents were among the Jews murdered in Auschwitz. He was taken from his mother and hidden with an aunt until the war ended.
But it is not clear if Harry is aware of some of the controversies - and hurt - Dr Maté has caused with some of his words, especially on Israel and Palestine.
He has also recently defended Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn from claims of anti-Semitism.
He has also appeared on a left-wing YouTube channel: The Grayzone, which has been branded pro-Kremlin.
MailOnline has contacted a representative of Prince Harry for comment and asked if the event is still going ahead and whether Harry was aware of the controversies surrounding Gabor Maté before the event was organised.
It is not yet clear who put Harry and Dr Maté together, and if they have spent time together in the past.
It could be the publishers of Spare or one of the Sussexes' team who put them in touch.
Archewell's executive director is Briton, James Holt one of Prince Harry's longest-serving team members, having led communications for the Royal Foundation from October 2017, when it was run by Harry along with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Mr Holt, who has previously worked for the Liberal Democrats, also acted as Harry and Meghan Markle's UK spokesman and took on the role of executive director of the Archewell Foundation in March 2020. He is now based in LA.
There is also Mandana Dayani, who Harry and Meghan hired as a tech and media executive in June 2021.
There is also Ashley Momtaheni, one of the Sussexes' most recent hires. She joined last May as executive vice president for global communications.
In 2021 Gabor Maté said in an online event that Hamas was 'nothing compared to the terrorism of the Israeli government', accusing Israel of wanting to seize all of 'biblical Palestine' beyond the Jordan.
He also appeared on a podcast with left-wing comic Russell Brand, saying of Israel: 'It's the longest ethnic-cleansing operation in the 20th and 21st centuries. It's still going on.'
He then described Gaza as 'the world's largest outdoor prison'.
In another controversy, writing in the Toronto Star, he compared Hamas terrorists to the heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising - the 1943 Jewish rebellion in German-occupied Poland
Dr Mate said in in 2014: 'The Palestinians use tunnels? So did my heroes, the poorly armed fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto.'
Defending the firing of rockets from Palestine into Israel, he said: 'Out of impotent defiance, they fire inept rockets, causing terror for innocent Israelis but rarely physical harm'.
He has spoken in friendly terms of Pink Floyd star Roger Waters, recently described as 'antisemitic to [his] rotten core'.
Gabor Maté also taken in part in discussions hosted by a far-left, pro-Kremlin blog and defended Jeremy Corbyn against charges of antisemitism, according to The JC.
Harry will speak publicly tomorrow as the rift with his family appeared to deepen this week.
His father appears to have retaliated to Spare by evicting the Sussexes from their grace-and-favour UK home.
The couple no longer have a base in Britain - in an act their allies say they consider to be 'cruel'.
And a wrangle over money could also follow.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be owed a 'refund' after they were kicked out of Frogmore Cottage having spent £2.4million on refurbishments and apparently paying for rent up front.
King Charles issued notice to the Sussexes that they would need to vacate the five-bedroom mansion on Tuesday in a dramatic move reportedly prompted by the repeated broadsides at Queen Consort Camilla in the Duke's memoir, Spare.
The decision was backed both by his wife and the Prince and Princess of Wales, it is understood.
However, it has now prompted questions as to whether the Crown Estate, which leases out Frogmore to the Sussexes, might actually end up owing the couple money.
The Sussexes were given use of Frogmore Cottage in 2018 by Queen Elizabeth amid their explosive fall-out with William and Katherine.
It was originally five, run-down, staff residences but was knocked back into one large home with a private garden initially using £2.4million in taxpayers' money.
The couple themselves paid for anything over and above basic fixtures and fittings.
At the time, the couple were said to be 'relieved and pleased' to refund taxpayers for the renovations.
'They are 'very relieved and very pleased' to have been able to pay off the debt so quickly,' a source close to them told Vanity Fair's Katie Nicholl.
'This has been a pro-active step and something they wanted to do from the outset.
'There was no requirement [from the Queen] for them to pay the money back but it was important to them that they did, and after the Netflix deal they were in a position to do so. I think this is quite a significant moment for them.'
The source added: 'They're now in their forever home, it's the start of their new life and they're very much looking forward to everything that's about to come.'
Gabor Maté has 20 years' experience working with people suffering from addiction and mental illness, with other specialisms such as stress and child development. But it has since emerged he once caused concern with the authorities for using a 'spiritual' psychedelic drug to treat patients.
He was born in Budapest in 1944, his maternal grandparents were killed in Auschwitz when he was five months old.
Tragically he was separated from his mother as a baby to save his life, while his father was subjected to forced labour by the Nazis.
The academic has described how he was unable to look at his mother when they were finally reunited when he was a toddler due to feelings of 'abandonment, rage and despair'.
He says the trauma he suffered continues to affect his adult life, leading to an intense emotional reaction when he perceives a threat of abandonment, especially from his wife.
He also believes it may have shaped his 'addiction' to shopping for classical music.
'As I was writing about my hardcore, drug-addicted clients I was certainly able to recognize similar areas in myself and in their behaviors,' he told Classical Voice in 2013.
'Working through the emotional dynamics and being with the emptiness that addictions attempt to fill, it just helped me understand myself better.'
The author is an outspoken supporter of decriminalising drugs, and has used the Amazonian plant ayahuasca to treat patients suffering from mental illness.
The psychedelic plant, which is taken as a brewed drink, causes people to experience hallucinations and other side effects, including vomiting.
Ayahuasca has traditionally been used by shamans and traditional healers but is now popular among Western tourists.
It remains illegal in the US, UK and Canada, and in 2011 Canadian officials threatened to arrest Dr Maté if he didn't stop using the drug to treat his patients.
Dr Maté regularly airs his opinions on a range of topics, and in 2021 appeared on a podcast series by the comedian Russell Brand where he discussed the Israel-Palestine conflict.
'There's no way you could have ever created a Jewish state without oppressing and expelling the local population,' he said.
Dr Maté called Gaza the 'world's largest outdoor prison,' and said that 'given those conditions, of course people will go for extremist leadership' - a reference to the 2006 election victory of Hamas.
'The disproportion of power and responsibility and oppression is so markedly on one side, that you take the worst thing you can say about Hamas, multiply it by a thousand times - and it still will not meet the Israeli repression, and killing, and dispossession of Palestinians,' he said.
He has published a series of books including In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, Close Encounters With Addiction, When the Body Says No, The Cost of Hidden Stress and Scattered Minds: The Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder.
He has received the Civic Merit Award of the City of Vancouver and the Order of Canada for his work on addiction and other mental health-related contributions.
Prince Harry's decision to select Dr Maté to help promote his memoir is another sign of his interest in therapeutic healing, having previously discussed his experience of going through therapy.
The event, organised in collaboration with Harry's publishers Penguin Random House, will take place at 5pm UK time on Saturday March 4.
It comes at a fragile time for the Sussexes, who have seen their popularity ratings in the US drop significantly since the release of Spare last month - and now face a decision over whether to attend Charles' coronation.
Since December last year, Harry's popularity has sunk by 48 points and Meghan's by 40, giving them net approval ratings of -10 and -17 respectively, according to a survey by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek.
Sources suggest neither William nor King Charles are prepared to offer any apology prior to the coronation, meaning the Sussexes may stay away.
'There is still a huge amount of ill-will boiling over in the family,' one said.
Save the date cards are set to be sent in two weeks to the 2,000 guests who have been chosen to attend the pared-down spring ceremony.
Numbers have been reduced from the 8,251 who attended Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953 to make the event more streamlined amid the cost of living crisis.
Formal invitations to those who have indicated they will accept will not be posted until three weeks before the event itself.
One well-placed source says Harry has made it clear that he wants a private apology of some sort from both Charles and William if he is to attend.
It is unclear whether Meghan will attend the ceremony if Harry chooses to do so, but as the date chosen for the coronation also falls on their son Archie's fourth birthday, there are doubts she will be present regardless of the ongoing family feud.
Anti-semitism has been rising the US at an alarming rate. I can't imagine Harry's choice to sit down with Gabor is going to go down too well with Americans, especially my fellow liberals.

Upcoming KiScord Pub Nights: 17 September, 3 p.m. EDT 1 October, 5 p.m. EDT 15 October, 3 p.m. EDT 29 October, 5 p.m. EDT
Dear K/S friends,
Greetings! We hope you've had a great summer, and we especially hope you are well and unharmed by a certain pesky virus. (It made the rounds in the concom, unfortunately, which is also why there was no newsletter in August.)
And now it's September, pumpkin spice is in and on everything, and we are back with our newsletter/progress report. The countdown on the KiScon website informs us that the con is in fewer than 60 days, and it's high time to address a few important points.
1. Upcoming deadlines:
The zine deadline is now in the past, but there are so many other deadlines in the very near future!
a. Program booklet:
If you have a dealer membership and want us to include information on your fannish business (including links to your Etsy, Bigcartel, website, etc.) in the program booklet ("con book"), please get in touch asap! We offer you this advertising space as part of your membership, but we require your input for this no later than 1 October!
The same deadline applies for anything you want us to include in the con book, e.g. announcements of fic fests, fannish events, zine projects, promoting of fannish spaces and communities. Please send your submissions to larissa @ kiscon . org!
b. Goodie bag: Let's fill the digital goodie bag for our attendees! We've already talked about this in the 2nd progress report, but here's the gist: Anything that can be downloaded and shared digitally is fair game as long as it has a creative or transformative element (which simply means: no episode or movie files, no unaltered stills or publicity photos)! Here are some suggestions to get those creative juices flowing:
Want to make a podfic or filk or mixtape/playlist for the con bag? Have some cool Trek-themed crochet or sewing patterns that you would like to share? An awesome desktop or phone wallpaper or digital stickers/badges/icons that members can then use on their social media? Maybe a cool recipe for K/S cookies or a lovely manip? A link to your amazing Star Trek picrew maker? Colouring pages or printable paper dolls? Send your goodies to larissa @ kiscon . org until 1 October, please.
c. Art show / auction: We talked at length about this in the last newsletter; please see the details there. Again, 1 October is the deadline, and the relevant contact email (both for submissions and any and all questions) is: artshow @ kiscon . org. d. Vidshow: Send us your creations, lovely vidders! Deadline for vid submission (preferably by Dropbox or similar download link): 10 October, to larissa @ kiscon . org. Please use the form on the KiScon website for giving us the details (title, length, etc.) on your vids.
Premieres of all genres: these are vids that have not been published on the Internet or distributed on DVDs/tapes yet (we are lenient if the vid has been shown at a convention in the past, as long as it is not available anywhere). Vids created in or after 2020 (and unpublished) are eligible for our competition.
Classics of all genres: vids that showcase the history and rich variety of K/S and Star Trek vidding from the late 1970s to the 2010s.
Fun & danceable song vids for our Disco Night & Sing-a-Long (Saturday night): exactly what it says on the tin – upbeat vids suitable for singing along and dancing the night away!
For more details, please see the 2nd progress report. This seems also like a good opportunity to mention that there are (physical) prizes for the winners of our competitions. K/S notebooks and badges and many other delightful items are waiting for you.
2. Program Survey (open until 30 September): Which tropes are your all-time favourite? How has the portrayal of the K/S relationship changed over the years? What is the future of K/S fandom? Explore these topics and many more in our panels and discussions! We've collected your suggestions and also brainstormed many more topics, and now it's time for you to vote! This survey is meant for already registered attendees or those who plan to register for the con. Please let us know which online panels and activities you would like to see and attend at KiScon (this is not a fixed registration for individual panels, just a survey to better tailor the program to your interests!), and whether you would like to moderate/present one or more. The titles are not final – if you claim a panel and have a better title in mind, do let us know. There are a few activities (e.g. vid shows, opening ceremony, cosplay etc.) that are a fixture at KiScon, and therefore they are not part of this survey. If there is more than one mod offer per panel, we'll get you in touch with each other.  If you do not see your must-have panel on this survey and think that Spock will be sad without it, please add it in the comment field at the end of the survey. Not all panels and activities will make it into the program – as much we would love a week-long con, we sadly only have a weekend. For all questions, panel tech requests, etc. – please use the comment field. Panels will be held via Zoom; if you want to offer an activity but are unsure whether you can pull it off online or whether you might need something beyond Zoom's infrastructure (e.g. for an interactive game), just drop us a line in the comment field at the end of the survey. We are happy to hear any and all ideas, and we will do our best to find solutions that work for all. Big thanks to all of you!
3. Demographic and Feedback Survey: Lillian created this survey to help the concom get a better feel of the needs and specifics of our community. Important: There are a few questions that are optional (e.g. age, gender, how did you get into K/S etc.) and if you do not want to answer them, this is totally fine. The key questions pertain to the convention itself – are there any access needs or technical barriers we should be aware of, how well informed do you feel about KiScon activities, what can we do better, etc.
We are not going to share the responses with anyone outside of the concom, and the data will only be stored until the end of the convention. 4. Pub Night Shenanigans: The last Pub Nights at the "KiScord" (KiScon Discord server) were great fun and we were excited to see/hear both new and familiar faces/voices. Some of us opted for joining the chat with video (in T'Lara's experience this makes following the conversation much easier), and some with audio only – either is fine during Pub Night. One of our games resulted in a K/S Mixtape that you can enjoy on Spotify; listen to the songs that are quintessentially Kirk/Spock for our Pub Night members. The playlist will hopefully grow in the future. Another game led us through the alphabet, this time on the hunt for tropes / tags. A big thank-you to Lillian for compiling the tropes and creating the playlist!
Tumblr media
(You can download a high-res pic of the trope cloud here, for easier zooming and trope exploring.)
The next Pub Nights are on: 17 September, 3 p.m. EDT 1 October, 5 p.m. EDT 15 October, 3 p.m. EDT 29 October, 5 p.m. EDT
For the October sessions, leading up to the convention, we will dedicate a part of each gathering for addressing technical questions. We'll happily explain how to use Conline, Discord, and Zoom. If you feel uneasy about the virtual framework of this year's KiScon, here's your chance to get familiar with all the tools and platforms, and Ask All The Questions. Apart from these dates, you can always reach out to us if you need more assistance (1lostone @ kiscon . org and lillian @ kiscon . org).
5. Cosplay:
Put on your awesome costumes or uniforms for our virtual Saturday night banquet and win a prize. You can take part in the cosplay competition by either showing off your costume via Zoom during the banquet or, if you are more comfortable with this, by posting your cosplay pics (recent ones, please, not from past conventions) to the dedicated Discord channel on Friday or Saturday during the convention. This channel will only be open to registered attendees.
Cosplay is also encouraged all weekend long, for any of the panels and activities; even if each one of us attends the con while sitting in our living rooms, let's do it in Trek style. Or show off your fabulous K/S and Trek tees during our Zoom sessions.
6. Where to find information & announcements:
Official website KiScon Discord server Tumblr blog Twitter Conline Facebook Group Dreamwidth
If you signed up for the newsletter only recently and want to read the issues you missed (there's plenty of useful information in them), you can find the links to  the past newsletters on our website in the FAQ section.
7. Last but not least, a reminder: Sign-ups for Kirk/Spock Advent Calendar 2022 are open, and so is the creation period!

Exclusive: Dominican Republic expelled hundreds of children to Haiti without their families this year
Hundreds of children have been expelled from the Dominican Republic without their parents, according to UNICEF, amid a sweeping government push to remove suspected undocumented migrants from the country.
The United Nations Children’s Agency has received at least 1,800 unaccompanied children delivered by Dominican immigration authorities into Haiti since the year began, a spokesperson told CNN on Monday.
Many arrive without identity documents and are “shipped” into the country amid adult deportees, the spokesperson also said – raising the question of how Dominican authorities ascertained that they belonged in Haiti at all.
An image provided to CNN by the Haitian aid organization Groupe d'Appui des Rapatriés et Réfugiés shows people deported from the Dominican Republic on November 17 near the Malpasse border crossing. CNN obscured parts of the image to preserve their privacy. - Courtesy GARR
Back in the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, immigration detention centers sometimes hold parents without children.
The Dominican Republic has long sought to reduce the Haitian population within its borders. But the latest wave of deportations this year is taking place with stunning speed and breadth, prompting critics to accuse the Caribbean nation’s government of racial profiling, chaotic execution, and a disregard for human rights and families as immigration agents hustle people out of the country.
The United States embassy in the Dominican Republic has warned Black and “darker-skinned Americans” that they risk “increased interaction” with Dominican authorities amid the immigration crackdown. In a statement released Saturday, the embassy described “reports of the unequal treatment” of US citizens based on skin color.
But Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader has rejected calls to stop the deportations, arguing that the country already supports neighboring Haiti more than any other country in the world.
The Dominican Republic’s migration directorate did not respond to CNN’s request for comment. But in a statement released after the publication of this article, the migration agency denied any cases of minors being separated from their parents since 2020. It quoted Venancio Alcántara, the migration agency’s director general, describing “specific procedures” for dealing with minors.
“Every time minors are accompanied by their parents, and when the parents have not been located, minors are referred to the Children and Teenagers National Counsel, which will take care of them,” he said.
Allegations of ‘degrading treatment’ and mistaken identities
In October alone, 14,801 people were sent to Haiti from the Dominican Republic, according to records by Haitian aid organization Groupe d’Appui des Rapatriés et Réfugiés – an average of 477 people each day.
Social media videos appearing to show Dominican immigration authorities conducting raids have caused panic among Haitians and people of Haitian origin in the Dominican Republic, with even some who are legal residents telling CNN that they are afraid to leave their homes.
Haiti’s Communications Ministry called on its neighbor to respect “human dignity” on Sunday, citing the “stunning images…that have drawn attention to inhumane and degrading treatment inflicted on Haitian citizens in the Dominican Republic.”
The immigration dragnet has swept up some people regardless of their nationality or legal status, according to former detainees and experts interviewed by CNN, as well as the US embassy statement.
One Haitian man, who lives and works legally in the Dominican Republic, told CNN that immigration agents broke into his home in the middle of the night and refused to listen to his arguments.
“I was sleeping in my house with my family. At 3 a.m. (local time), a group of immigration officers broke down my door and arrested me. They did not ask me for my papers or anything; they did not let me speak,” says one man of Haitian origin, whose legal work permit was in the process of being renewed when he was arrested.
“They just grabbed me and took me away; I told them I had papers and they did not even listen,” he added.
He was detained overnight in squalid conditions before being released the next day.
Video that he secretly filmed and shared with CNN showed a concrete building with cramped stalls piled with food and blackened with waste, and a narrow room with no beds, where at least 15 other detained men waited.
“They treat them like animals. Once they put them in jail, they leave them there to sleep on the floor without feeding them. They destroyed people’s documents and in some cases, people had no chance to show their papers,” said Sam Guillaume, a GARR spokesperson.
He added that his organization has received several Dominican citizens in Haiti who were erroneously seized and deported.
A years-long effort
The Dominican Republic’s effort to remove people of Haitian origin from the country goes back years.
In 2013, the country’s constitutional court controversially ruled that Dominicans born in the country to undocumented parents should be stripped of their citizenship – rendering tens of thousands of people stateless, with no other country to call home.
Known colloquially as “La Sentencia” or the Sentence, it “created a situation of statelessness of a magnitude never before seen in the Americas,” according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
Many Haitian migrants in the Dominican Republic rely on short-term residency permits to remain in the country legally through a “regularization plan.” But Kuzmova, the legal researcher, says she hears “over and over” that they risk being deported while they wait to renew those permits.
“When it comes to Haitian migrants, the residence permit is valid for a year, and they take a year to renew it. So the reality is that if this person who is eligible for a permit gets picked up on the street, they’re not going to have a valid document on them,” she says.
“What people are saying is that when you get picked up with an expired card, they destroy it. And that was basically the proof that you had of being in the regularization plan.”
A new presidential decree, issued last week to create a specialized law enforcement unit to combat squatting, could also be used to target people of Haitian origin living on historic sugar plantation villages known as bateyes, which once drew large numbers of migrant workers.
“The people living there now are largely retired old people who worked on the plantations, and they don’t have proof of title. So that could be another way to instrumentalize police to enforce deportations,” Kuzmova says.
As Haiti struggles to recover from interlinked political and security crises, the UN has repeatedly called on the Dominican Republic to stop sending people there.
“Unremitting armed violence and systematic human rights violations in Haiti do not currently allow for the safe, dignified and sustainable return of Haitians to the country. I reiterate my call to all countries in the region, including the Dominican Republic, to halt the deportation of Haitians,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk earlier this month.
Two days later, Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader responded with derision, describing Turk’s statement as “unacceptable and irresponsible” – and saying he would instead accelerate deportations.

Transiting Juno enters retrograde zone
Timeline (current events in bold)
Friday, May 13, 2022 - transiting Juno enters pre-retrograde shadow, 7:41 Pisces
Monday, July 25 - transiting Juno stations retrograde, 21:31 Pisces
Sunday, October 23 - transiting Juno stations direct, 7:41 Pisces
Saturday, December 24 - transiting Juno exits post-retrograde shadow, 21:41 Pisces
Disclaimer: unless Juno is a “player” in your birth chart, you probably won’t get a lot out of this.
Poor Juno. Since December 2020, the Lady Asteroid of marriage (among other things!) has been travelling through signs whose priorities don’t include one-to-one equal relationships. Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces are all Universal/Transpersonal signs; they’re more concerned with the wider world than more personal and/or intimate matters.
The main problem with Juno in Pisces is what happens if/when our idealism crashes and burns. We can be overwhelmed by our disillusionment, and we’re too prone to escapism to ease the pain of our expectations not being met.
So maybe what we have to do is revisit and realign our expectations, right? Let’s look at all of Juno’s areas:
All one-to-one relationships - most of us look at our natal Juno as, “what kind of partner(s) will I have.” I would really like for us to turn that around into, “what kind of a partner can I be?” Big difference, right? We can think about our natal Juno and use our imaginations to elevate the expression.
Protocol and social ritual - well, I’m very confident that this side of Juno was happy enough in Capricorn…! But Juno is in Pisces now, and we need to remember to add some compassion to our social rules. Maybe having good manners and being courteous to everyone...?
The powerless (women, battered wives, abused children, minorities, disabled, victims) - here in the US, we’re especially concerned about the powerless, these days. As well we ought. This area is where the “despair” piece is most likely to occur, I’m afraid. We need to work on a more compassionate approach toward those of us who aren’t cishet “Christian” wealthy men.
The atmosphere (weather, climate, storms) - I’m not very sanguine about this area. Too much obfuscation from the main culprits, combined with the usual mutable sign commitment-phobia - in this case, our inability to commit to holding accountable those main culprits.
Juno’s interactions will be mostly with the “inner” planets - Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ceres, Pallas Athene - during this entire retrograde zone. The one outer-planet major aspect is a sextile to Uranus/Taurus, maturing on June 17 but “in effect” for pretty much all of June. Perhaps an opportunity to apply some “radical simplicity” to Juno processes?
Remember that in the pre-retrograde shadow, we’re becoming aware of situations we need to address. The real “work” happens during Juno’s retrograde.

hi calla! sorry if this is a weird question, but i just remembered the fic exchange primer you made so i thought i'd shoot my shot. do you know if you need to have a dreamwidth to sign up for hbb? are there any things you think a first time hbb-er would need to know that might not seem obvious? thanks so much either way!
hello! no weird questions on THIS blog
((link to hbb sign-ups & instructions))
i have only done hbb once, in 2020, so it's not totally fresh in my mind, but i'll do my best to help! as far as i know (edit: confirmed by mods!) you don't need a dreamwidth account to sign up, although it does make it easier to post. you CAN just post comments anonymously, so long as you include your AO3 username in the comment itself
more stuff under the cut
so the broad structure of HBB is below, and i think just going incrementally deadline by deadline is the best way to tackle things for a beginner!
Sign-ups Open: Now! Mandatory Check-in/Primary Fanworker Sign-ups close: Monday, August 1 50% Draft Completion/Summary Submission: Wednesday, September 14 Summaries Posted For Viewing: Saturday, September 17 Summary Claims Open: Sunday, September 18 Posting Date Claims Open: Saturday, October 15 Mandatory Check-in for All Participants: Thursday, October 14 Posting Begins: Monday, October 31
stuff that might not seem obvious (also: always check with the mods! they are in charge)
not everyone posts at once, like in an exchange; you're assigned a date and they are staggered
a fifty percent draft doesn't actually need to be half of your fic, but half of the minimum, so 5k words! that said you do have to at least bullet-point plot out the entire thing, for the mods and for your secondary fanworker
as for other ~*insider*~ advice.... my HBB (a beam of your sun that banishes winter, aka fuckpriest) was co-written with @manybumblebees, which was the best decision i could have made personally! i know that co-writing isn't for everyone but even just to designate a cheerleader and handholder is a great to way to stay motivated and engaged as you work.
a big element of us finishing the story was really committing to 250 words a day, which is 1) not as hard as it seems at first 2) a great way to write more than your goal every day. it also allowed us to finish a complete draft with enough time to get some very thoughtful feedback from out beta and make substantive edits that helped make the story much stronger, which was a new and good experience for me, someone who lovesssss to finish at the last minute and then have a beta just check for spelling and grammar, el oh el.
one more piece of big advice is to be in communication with your accompanying fan-work-creator (ie artist, podficcer, etc), once you hit that stage! if you need more time or need more of a draft or need to drop out or anything, it's better to get in touch sooner than later.
also, it's a very cool thing to participate in a big bang and you should be proud of yourself for trying it!! have fun!!

The songs were shared while he embarked on two world tours
By Liberty Dunworth | 26th April 2024
Check out the tracklist for the album below, as well as the cover art. Visit here to listen to the album.

The ‘Live’ tracklist is:
‘The Greatest’ (Live From London, 17 November 2023) ‘Face The Music’ (Live From Nashville, 18 July 2023) ‘Bigger Than Me’ (Live From Vancouver, 26 June 2023) ‘Holding On To Heartache’ (Live From Barcelona, 6 October 2023) ‘We Made It’ (Live From Manila, 16 July 2022) ‘Chicago’ (Live From Chicago, 15 June 2023) ‘Fearless’ (Live From Rio, 27 May 2022) ‘Common People’ (Live From Sheffield, 10 November 2023) ‘All This Time / She Is Beauty We Are World Class’ (Live From Munich, 22 October 2023) ‘Walls’ (Live From Buenos Aires, 21 May 2022) ‘Written All Over Your Face’ (Live From Budapest, 15 September 2023) ‘Out Of My System’ (Live From Brisbane, 30 January 2024) ‘Saturdays’ (Live From Paris, 14 October 2023) ‘Silver Tongues’ (Live From Krakow, 10 September 2023)
At time of writing, Tomlinson has shared two huge solo albums since departing from One Direction.
Since May last year, Tomlinson has been on his ‘Faith In The Future World Tour’, which hits South America next month for its final leg. From there, the vocalist has a number of festival appearances lined up for the summer. Find remaining tickets to his shows here.
In other Louis Tomlinson news, earlier this week the singer, alongside Courteeners and English Teacher, were among the acts to be honoured at the first-ever Northern Music Awards.
The inaugural ceremony was hosted by the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff And Robbins and took place at the Albert Hall in Manchester; celebrating northern artists, festivals, venues and industry figures. The event saw Tomlinson named as Artist Of The Year.
Earlier this year, he also criticised the rumours that he was once in a relationship with Harry Styles, calling the speculation “irritating” and “far too personal”

thinkin i should repost this fun fact about me webcomic, from bluesky posts i made a bit ago:
my webcomic (..Just Another Day!) canonically begins in-universe on October 3, 2020. this was chosen cus it was the date in my Trans in Barking stories when my character Sawdust officially moved in with her partner Loren. a sentimental choice for the date, baby
now, as for the rest of the dates in the comic:
[Pages 01 - 15] Saturday (October 3, 2020) [Pages 14 - 16] Sunday (October 4, 2020) [Pages 17 - 32] Monday (October 5, 2020) [Pages 33 - 50] Tuesday (October 6, 2020) [Pages 51 - ??] Wednesday (October 7, 2020)
i'll make sure to be obvious about the date changes on pages 50 (later today) and 51 (gonna draw it March 2nd) respectively
also the commentary is set in present times however, as i liek that to be the obvious date of when each page was actually drawn and posted in our real times (not in-universe)
