There’s something special about the way Liar Satsuki Can See Death, and Walk to Death treat death.

Of course, death is an incredibly common topic in stories and ever present in our daily lives, but even amongst that - or maybe because of that? - these stand out.

It’s certainly something I’ll need to spend time reflecting on, but these two have felt meaningful to me in a way few others can match.

The best way I can phrase it would be that they have a sort of “empathy towards death”, which I think is not only fascinating, but also really effective (at least for me).

I just think they’re both really special and wanted to gush about them!

Walk to Death. 死にあるき. Shi ni Aruki. 8.5/10

I would not recommend this manga to my friends. I would reread this manga.

Tokiko is mostly drawn so beautifully and with an elegant ethereal air to her. I really love her being the protagonist. All this existential but simply put ways of discussing life, death, relationships, and action justification are things I completely understand. She's so herself, and it feels so relatable to me. Her death makes me think about how people continue to live because the world tells them to or because of other people. Another question I ponder is if I'd kill myself if nothing tied me to this Earth.

Akiyama pleases me. The way he speaks is at times pleasant and very succinct. He's also so chippy despite everyone disliking him for that lol. I also love his dedication to the professor although he seems sus at times being so competent and intelligent but positive about situations. I'd date him.

I love all the extra chapters, especially as it gives cute context to Tokiko and Natsuki's relationship.

I'm just wrecked at Natsuki's reaction to the murders and her death in general. This could've been a love story. Natsuki being so understanding is what I want in my close relationships. People respecting your decisions since they know it's just something you gotta do regardless of if they can understand it or not.

happy femslash february, this one’s going to be a weird one—it’s not a romance, but it is constant high stakes Heated Drama among female characters. right now it’s on its 9th volume, and it looks like the series is about to hit its last few arcs.

each arc is essentially the investigation of a future corpse in order find out time of death, cause of death, and other clues that can help prevent the death. there’s allergic reactions, science accidents, electrocution, premeditated murder, a beheading… it’s a very dangerous school…

satsuki does this while being ostracized by the majority of her classmates because she has a reputation for telling people they’re going to die. there’s some pretty intense bullying and multiple impressively rancid high school gals. and abuse. it’s a pretty heavy series. but you see, the reason I have this as femslash february rec post—despite it not being a romance—is because:

Last round got me to read Liar Satsuki Sees Death. Wonder what I'll read this round.

😂 Same. I loved reading Satsuki. The author apparently has another manga called Shi ni Aruki about a girl who always seems surrounded by 'accidental' deaths, which starts to arouse suspicion. I haven't read it yet (def plan to eventually), but it sounded really interesting, so maybe you'd like it.

Hana Tabata's already out, but I started reading A Bouquet for an Ugly Girl cuz of her and that's very good too. A sweet shoujo.

Ooo Clara from Mairimashita! Iruma-kun is competing in this round. I DEFINITELY recommend that manga-- it's so freaking fun. I was never bored when I was catching up on it. It is quite a bit longer than Satsuki and Bouquet tho. 300+ chapters and counting! But very worth the commitment imo.

AND HOW SHE WAS MORE UPSET OVER THE FACT THAT TOKIkO SAID IT'S OKAY IF SHE DOESN'T WANT TO BE FRIENDS ANYMORE AND IS WILLING TO GO TROUGHT IT ALL AND WAIT FOR TOKIkO

And even if she was so sinister at Natsuki's death, even until the end she really cared about her only friend and possibly the only person Tokiko could confide and be 'normal' with was Natsuki 😭
