P.S. Krøyer (July 23, 1851 - 1909) was one of the circle of painters and Bohemians known as Skagensmalerne/The Skagen Painters. His canvases fetch high prices in auctions worldwide, and he is a prime representative of Danish impressionism.

Merhaba 👋🏽 Bugün, 1852 Oslo doğumlu Christian Krohg’den söz etmek istiyorum. Bakan bir dede ve devlet memuru bir babaya sahip olan Krogh, çocuk yaşta annesini kaybetmiş, sanatçıya ablası annelik yapmıştır. 1861 senesinde Hartvig Nissen Okulu’na yazılmıştır. Babasının önerisiyle üniversite çağına geldiği zaman hukuk okumak için Oslo Üniversitesi’ne başlamış, mezun olacağı sene babasını kaybetmiştir. Hukuk derslerinin yanı sıra 1869-70 seneleri arasında ressam Johan Fredrik Eckersberg’den resim dersleri almıştır. Almanya’ya giderek sanat çalışmalarına ressam Karl Gussow’un yanında devam etmiştir. Berlin Königliche Akademie’de okuduğu 1875-1878 seneleri arasında 1877-78 senelerinden 1881 senesine kadar devletten seyahat ödeneği almıştır. Sanatçı dostu Frits Thaulow’un da önerisi ile Skagensmalerne (Skagen Sanatçı Topluluğu) ile bir araya gelmiştir. Skagen Topluluğu ile geçirdiği süre içerisinde Anna ve Michael Ancher’a ilham verdiği ve Edvard Munch’a sanatının ilk zamanlarında destek sağladığı bilinmektedir. Realist(1) sanatçılardan etkileneceği Paris’te 1881-82 seneleri arasında bulunan Krogh, kendi ilhamını da günlük hayatın gerçeklerinden almıştır. Fuhuş konusunu ele aldığı ‘Albertine i politilægens venteværelse’ isimli eseri hakkında sonradan bir kitap yazmış, bu kitap halk arasında konusu ile skandala yol açtığı için polis tarafından baskılarına el konulmuştur. Kristiania Bohemian hareketinin (2) Impressionisten isimli dergisinin editörü olan Krohg, sonralarda Verdens Gang isimli gazetede de çalışmıştır. Aynı zamanda öğretmenlik kariyeri de bulunan Krogh’un, 1902-1909 seneleri arasında Paris’te bulunan Académie Colarossi’de ders verdiği, Norveç Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi’nde de 1909-1925 seneleri arasında hem profesör hem de yönetici olarak çalıştığı bilinmektedir. Near Skagen old Church, Hasso Heybrock

Springtime light floods the beach near the harbour of Skagen. In between the high sand dunes, the old church of Skagen rises. This church was lost in never ending sand storms and could no longer be used. The tower of the church is still there and is an important landmark for ships sailing around the northern end of Denmark. Being at this place let you fell the former life in between the fishermen, their community and the artist (Skagensmalerne).

Here is his portrait of Frederikke Tuxen (née Treschow), which was painted in 1882 and given as a wedding present to Laurits and Frederikke Tuxen in 1901. The painting is oil on panel and was sold by Christie’s in 2011 for GBP 27,500...

Anna Ancher - Interior. Brøndum's annex, circa 1920, wood and oil Anna Ancher (née Brøndum; 1859 – 1935) was a Danish visual artist who worked with oil and pastel. Anna was born and raised in the remote fishing settlement of Skagen, the northernmost part of Denmark. Anna integrated the training and influences she had acquired while abroad with the local subjects and scenery of Skagen. Anna was masterful in observing natural light and made bold choices in colour. She experimented with the simplification of subjects and backgrounds, and the integration of shadows and reflected light. She drew and painted the local people in their homes, gardens and places of work. Her friendships and familiarity with the locals enabled an intamacy to shine through her works.

Michael Ancher - Two fishermen from Skagen at the window in the grocery, 1915 Michael Peter Ancher (1849 - 1927) was a Danish realist artist. He is famous for his paintings of fishermen, their experiences at sea, and the daily life of their communities. Ancher was born and grew up on the on the island of Bornholm. At the age of 16, he began his apprenticeship as a clerk in Djursland. He drew and painted in his spare time, eventually studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1874, Ancher moved to the fishing village of Skagen and joined the small community of Skagen artists. Archer was inspired to paint reality and the natural light and colours that surrounded him. He combined classical compositions with naturalism.
