Okay, so I've been watching Trigun Stampede and have formulated an opinion: It is very well presented, but not very well executed.

The character redesigns, animation, music, and direction are all fantastic. I cannot stress that enough. Visually, it is stunning -- an absolute pleasure to watch. Vash's redesign (while I miss his old hairdo) features a warm blend of red, gold, and turquoise that stands out against beige backgrounds and blandly dressed civilians. His hair, combined with new large glasses and smaller build, makes him an utter gender. The art and animation seamlessly blends 2D and 3D in a way that feels natural. They've somehow managed to emulated the animation style of the old show into CGI perfectly. As a result, the action is phenomenal. Easily one of the best 3D anime I've ever seen.

It feels like a work of love by the people who made it.

However, It doesn't feel like Trigun. Something feels wrong with the characters. The pacing is far too fast. I want things to slow down for a minute so I can appreciate the characters. It almost feels like an eager Trigun fanfic. I almost think the writers were too excited to get to the fun parts and sped through the character-building, calm moments of the story just to get to the flashy climaxes of those plot threads. Another issue I've noticed that no one else has mentioned is that Stampede!Vash lacks that inhuman aura you get from the original. And while I think most of that comes from the sheer scale of OG!Vash, a lot of it also has to do with the innocent way he was animated in that classic 90s style.

So far, I have to recommend any fan of quality animation check it out. It's too beautiful to ignore. I just wish it was more effectively written.
