Mods to Make School Better (High School Years + Discover University)

I really love The Sims 4, but I love The Sims 4 because I play a heavily modded game. I know that option isn’t for everyone, but for those who do... Sometimes it’s hard to know where to look. It’s like when you’re hungry and you open up your food delivery service of choice and are just overwhelmed by the options these days.

Luckily... I look around a lot.

This post is inspired by the other amazing posts here, here, here and of course here. It started as something just for High School Years but grew... very quickly...

This list was last updated 17 September 2022 / Patch 1.91.205.

More Students at High School (Ksuihuh) OR High School More Class Mates (Aramiteus)

Use one or the other here and read the descriptions because if you use Aramiteus’ version, you need to change MCCC Maximum Sims on Lot Value to about 40.

The main draw is that more students will be on the High School lot. Aramiteus’ mod also adds 2 other teachers and an extra lunch person dependent on how many whiteboards/cafeterias you have on lot. It also requires you to choose your classmates before going to school.

Ksuihuh’s version comes with a script mod to increase the numbers of sims on the lot, as well an extra mod for an extra lunch person. It does not make you pick the sims going to class--you will need Rex’s Choose High School Classmates mod to ensure the sims you want are going to show up to school!

ChippedSim’s High School Tweaks

ChippedSim calls these “tweaks” but a full Active Class experience overhaul is a bit more than that in my opinion!

Please note that updates are coming to this mod ACTIVELY - just today I saw that there were more in class interactions for the Active Classes! So keep an eye out on tumblr or twitter.

ChippedSim also overhauled the lockers so that you can keep more thing in there, as well as buy some stuff! Take a look at the full breakdown here, but I can’t recommend this enough.

ADeepIndigo’s Small High School Years Tweaks

Yes, I’m saying just download the whole lot.

More Discipline adds Parenthood compatibility--you can now discipline your kids for misbehaving/sneaking out/getting expelled. Why wasn’t that included by default? Ask EA, and thank ADeepIndigo in the meantime.

More Fun Pier Rides does what it says: raises the fun meter more!

Less Random Crushes makes it so that crushes are determined by Sims’ personalities instead of just randomly occurring.

Shop for Prom Outfit is just a really cute idea! It costs $100 to buy a prom outfit, and that can only be done once prom is announced.

My favorite has to be More Locker Notes. Don’t just let your sims cyberbully on Social Bunny. Let them passive-aggressively do it in person too.

ADeepIndigo’s Dynamic Teen Life

As of writing this, the mod is still in testing but I’ve been playing with it in my game for a few days and I’m still playing around with it, but it already adds sooo much more to my teen’s lives. More afterschool activities, popularity and cliques, new journal entries (for the Parenthood journals).... Gossip, rumors and having to actually try out to join the cheerleading squad.

Oh yes, I think this’ll become not just an essential mod for HSY users, but for most legacy players as well.

MissyHissy’s Form Groups in School

I won’t be surprised if MissyHissy comes out with some more mods but this is the one from their tweaks I’m currently using. EA didn’t let groups form in school which... you know, you’d think they’d want some cross-compatibility with previous packs to allow for literal cliquey behaviors but.

Anyway, this fixes that!

Lot51.cc’s Fashion Authority

I haven’t played much with this yet for high school but have it in my game for other reasons. This mod lets you take control of townie outfits... Including situation ones, and can restrict by regions. This is excellent if you want to have your sims wear a uniform to Copperdale, for instance, or you have a specific cheerleading uniform in mind, etc.

LittleMsSam’s HSY Bug Fixes

Hopefully we will not need these forever. Until they are patched though...

Take Exam Fix - stops sims from just getting up five minutes after the exam.

NPC Relationship Autonomy Fix - are you tired of random sims barging in, asking you to be BFFs after you added them on Social Bunny? fear not, because this should curb NPCs’ stalking you.

High School Promote Fix - helps the game promote sims from Cs to Bs if they’ve been going to school actively the whole time...

Stop Phone Change Color Obsession - I needed this one bad. Stops sims from changing their phone color every time they visited a new lot, and removed the camera focus as well

Ilkavelle’s Check Events & Sneak Out

A tiny little mod by Ilkavelle to help your sims sneak out, if they haven’t been getting invited out by their classmates!

Ilkavelle’s Teen Aspiration Bundle

I didn’t link this before as the teen aspirations hadn’t been updated to work with high school years... But now they have! This adds a few more teen-only aspirations for your sims (Prom Royalty, Overachiever, Towards Independence and Teenage Rebellion).

ADeepIndigo’s Summer Camps

We’re moving away from High School Years fixes and enhancements straight over to the joys of gameplay. This mod adds Summer Camps to the game which is... actually really super fun? Summer Camp is for children and teen sims; there are a variety of different camps to send your kids off to. This isn’t an active experience; it’s a rabbit hole “job” that replaces school, and there are both day camps and away camps. It’s also ONLY available during the summer, and camp automatically ends when summer does.

Simston Private School [originally by SHEnanigans, adopted by ADeepIndigo]

ADeepIndigo adopted this mod by SHEnanigans after she was hired by EA, and updated it for the most recent patch. There’s not a current write-up about this mod available from a modding source, but there is a review by SnootySims that you can read, or you can read this capture from the Wayback Machine.

This mod recreates the TS2 Headmaster Visit event - if you pass, your child/teen is then enrolled in Private School. No more basic public school for your snooty rich sims!

Homework Tweaks & Subject Homework [originally by Scarlet, adopted by LittleMsSam]

I’ve had this so long, I genuinely forgot how long sims take to do homework. This mod comes in a few different flavors, but it makes sims do their homework... faster! Time is money, right?

Subject Homework also allows sims to raise skill while doing their homework. There’s a couple different options for what homework they can do, and I personally like to try to match it to what class my sims had in High School that day [maybe they write a persuasive essay after Social Studies, etc].

Zero’s University Custom Degrees & Tweaks/Fixes

Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you’ve played TS4 a lot, and you’re tired of all those regular degrees. Maybe you’re a little annoyed that completing university plays into the lie we American millennials were told that going to college is the fast track to riches. Well fear not, because not only does this mod add 15 custom degrees, it also overhauls how degrees play into careers if you want it to.

This is very modular so read the post carefully. I personally play with Zero’s tunings, because I also use University Costs More, Higher Scholarships and Harder Distinguished Degree Acceptance, as well as the Required Degree for Promotion that’s in optional folder. I know TS4 is a fantasy where I can have vampires and werewolves and also secret agents but I also like to make life hard on myself.

If you just want the Custom Degrees, good news: there’s also a file that goes by EA’s tunings so you don’t need to have everything cost an arm, leg and house or require degrees for jobs or anything.

There are other tweaks available, mostly to adjust the autonomy from roommates in dorms.

Revy’s Get Back your Presentation Board

I don’t want to talk about all the times I’ve lost my presentation board. This mod provides a way to get it back. You just have to email your professor.

LittleMsSam’s Choose your Roommate

Lets you pick your dormmates or roommates :’) Great if you have a specific storyline in mind and already have the classmates picked out. This is another mod that has steps so read the post carefully. You can also pair it with LittleMsSam’s Chores mod to set up cleaning rotations :)

Zerbu’s Go to School V5 [Builder’s Tools]

Did you think I’d leave out the child stage? I’m not EA. I’m including this one here as while its actively in development, builders can get started building elementary schools now. You can also read Zerbu’s plans for elementary school here. I would not recommend using the old mod for now, as its considered unsupported and will be replaced by the new version requiring HSY.

But until then, I’m keeping it here as I know Go to School is a long running mod. V4 is here.

Ilkavelle’s Children Aspiration Bundle

Tired of the same 4 aspirations for each kid? Me too!! This mod adds four new aspirations for your kids to complete: Little Entrepreneur, School Star, Little Explorer and Voidcritters Master.

Ilkavelle’s After School Activities Bundles

You’ve got more aspirations so get more things to do after school too! Bundle 1 adds 5 after school activites focused on creative skills, Bundle 2 is on mental skills. The second bundle also requires a few of her events mods...

Ilkavelle Event Mods

The three that are required for the after school bundles [& also usable with the children aspirations!]...

School Trip: take a trip with your class to a museum or park!

Science Fair: yes, HSY has a science fair too, but this is an active event for kids as well! Compete in a science fair against your peers, and perhaps be judged as the best

Debate Event: let your future lawyers compete against each other, starting from grade school. These events can also be attended by teens, in case you want them to go to debate club as well

Talent Contest: well if there’s a science fair, your artsy students should also get a chance to show off, right? This one isn’t required but it is a really cute idea.

Ilkavelle’s One Time Jobs for Teens & Kids

One of the childhood aspiration add-ons is about making some money as a kid. This allows kids to take up some jobs around the neighborhood (pet sitting, dog walking, lemonade stand, etc). Just a nice little add-on for your kids to do something extra.

Howdy

I've been working on curating an easily accessible, incredibly lengthy master list of TS4 Equestrian and Horse Ranch CC and mods. Trying to keep it focused on equestrian features and styles (plus some other pack-specific stuff like nectar making mods, pack-specific recolors, etc) rather than yeehaw outfits. The list only includes currently free and no adfly downloads.

Let me know if I missed a big one, I'm updating as often as I can. Also thinking of including poses, I'm just unfamiliar with using them myself. BIG THANKS to all the horsey creators. Absolutely wild how much is out already.

Murf's Top 50 Mods - Part 3 (2020 - 2023 Edition)

I made a Top 50 list (Pt 1 and Pt2) back in 2016, talking about mods that I've used & love. But with all the goated content that the amazing TS3 community continues to churn out, I NEEDED to update my list! This one in no way diminishes or negates the other mods I've already listed--like, I shouldn't have to sit here and explain how NRAAS continues to carry TS3 on its freaking shoulders, ok. This is just MORE mods, the Top 50 most RECENT ones I've tried out since, like, quarantine.

I am a VERY niche simmer--I love fantasy gameplay, so my fave mods are the ones that not only offer general quality of life improvements, but also add new abilities and interactive objects inspired by different cultures, time periods, or genres. So y'all already KNOW which ones have earned my top spots. They're not based on which mods are "better," just which ones I personally have been using the most.

1: Smooth Patch, LazyDuchess

I've already gushed about this mod, but oh well. Like--I use an EFFTON of CC. My Live Mode gameplay itself doesn't tend to lag so much as my game's slow to LOAD, slow to save, CAS is a nightmare, I can do my taxes waiting for the Misc Decor section to open, etc etc. But the Smooth Patch loads everything so much quicker for me! 😭

One thing is that on the EA App version (curse you, EA) the Master Controller package didn't work on my end, so I took it out, but everything else has been great!

2: Search Mod, LazyDuchess

Speaking of the Misc Decor section -- HOW LONG did we ask EA for a Search function y'all? Only to be ignored. Then the second TS4 is released, it ain't got a effing thing in it, but it's got a Search function??? 🤔 ISTG it's like the simgurus were told to take all of the TS3 community's best suggestions, and poach them for TS4 (like vampire coffins--NO I'm not over it!). WHY do modders have to do your frikkin job for you, EA?! I call EA lazy all the time cuz EA you suck, so it's the most ironic thing ever that LazyDuchess is out here KILLING IT.

My ONLY "complaint" about the Search mod is the position of the icon. I use A LOT of Collection Files, and I noticed that the Search icon actually covers the Delete button when in the Collection viewer. So I can't delete items in collections with the Search icon in the way.

But this is a MINOR nitpick--I almost never delete items, it's just something I noticed is all.

3 - 8: OCCULT MODS: EVERYTHING by @puddingface1902

Y'all already know the Enhanced Witches mod is my favorite mod ever made. But PF1902 also made cool enhancements to the Fairies, Genies, Vampires, Werewolves, and Mermaids too! My sims are usually Nraas hybrids (e.g.: Sakura is a faery, witch & plantsim; Magnus Bane is a witch & genie; etc.), so it's FANTASTIC having so many new abilities for my magical occults. 😍

9 - 11: OCCULT MODS by xantak22

Even more occult mods at MTS are for enhanced Plantsims, Ghosts, and Mummies! I was dying for more Plantsim abilities, omg, they're my 3rd fave occult after Witches & Fae.

12: Sim Control Tools by Knight

Sooooo many quality of life mods have come out! ^0^

I've been ABUSING the Teleport To Me function, to quickly get sims off of lots & where I need them to be. It also lets sims unlock more Social/Romantic interactions. (Now all we need is a way to interact with sims from EA's useless thumbnails.)

13 - 18: @anitmb's mods

There are SOOOO many--most I've yet to even try. But so far newer ones I've been using are the Deck of Cards (FINALLY something other than EA's bulky AF poker table!), Farm Mod (look at all these CHICKENS!), and Hunting mod so my 8000 archer sims can actually hunt! (Ofc I've also used the Woodcutter and Anvil mods in my older gameplay posts, too.) And @mspoodle1's edit of the Cup of Tea mod is so pretty.

19: @mspoodle1's Poker table

Another excellent cards mod is this medieval style poker table I use a lot now, too.

20: @omedapixel's Wildflowers DR

I like EA's default wildflowers from SSNS, but Omeda's are just sooooo much nicer. (I haven't gotten around to trying out their Harvestable Plant DR yet.)

21: Swordfighting mod by CyrusBanefort

En garde! This mod is so freaking epic!

One thing I've noticed is that the game lags while it waits for the mod to boot up (a message has to first pop up saying it's running when you first launch your saves). But other than that this mod is excellent.

22 - 24: Yoga rugs

I've long been using the yoga rugs by Kitabalibar and the edited one from @mspoodle1. But now there's the newest one by @twinsimming, with brand new animations & features. The more the merrier I say, LOL. What's especially neat is the kids wobbling around as they try to do yoga! :3

25 - 30: TheSweetSimmer's mods--so cute! :3

Omg so frikkin many, I can't even catch up! The interactions are so freaking precious, like from the More Toddler Interactions (cuddle, look at, etc) & Biggest Little Mod (hug legs), I've never had so much fun playing with kids! <3 And I LOVE that they can Catch Butterflies and Pick Flowers--you'd think plantsim children would be able to do this by default, EA! Honestly, just grab everything by TSS, your kid sims will thank you!

31 - 33: @spheresims Medieval/Nature/Tribal mods

Y'all know I'm crazy about the Functional Fireplaces mod (the cauldrons, baby! 😈), but the One with Nature and Wildlife Hunting mods are great too, perfectly complimenting the off-the-grid realness.

34: @olomayasims/Cmomoney Smoking Mod Overhaul

The original smoking mod was on my first Top 50 list, so it's awesome seeing it get new upgrades, interactions & animations.

I've never smoked IRL, but sooooo many of my sims just puff-puff away; I'm such an enabler. U_U Now all we need is cigars and pipes!

35 - 38: Callia-Evergreen/Camkitty's CAS CC for animal hybrids at MTS

Not a "mod" per se, but whatever--my list my rules! I love ALL of their CC, but I get SO MUCH use out of animal-themed CC like the digitigrade sliders, wolf feet, lizard tails, and fae wings. Do check them out if you like to play with horror and monster-sims!

39: @greenplumbboblover's Sheep

EASILY one of the most incredible mods I've ever seen. Like....HOW? (Once @omedapixel's Goats are done I'm gonna start screaming someone do llamas pleeeeeaaaaase!!!)

40: Arsil's musical instruments mod

I used the sax most recently in my IWTV gameplay, and it was excellent, perfect for the NOLA vibes! However, although I use the flute A LOT more (for my Untamed gameplay--it's been such a GODSEND!), I really wish the hands were positioned better, preferably using the poses from Chisims' flute poseset. (But I don't eff with poses/animations, otherwise I'd do it myself. U_U) Ah well, it's still one of my fave mods though.

41 - 42: Flower Arranging mod by zoe22 + @mspoodle1's Florist Collection

Guys, I've been wanting this mod since FOREVER! ^0^ (I swear, the best thing about TS4 is all the 4t3 conversions, LMAO!) I just wish Teens could Dabble and use it, too--all they can do is stock the table.

43: Just Sit/Nap Anywhere by FloTheory

Sometimes you just want sims to fall asleep anywhere, DANG, EA!

44: @sweetdevil-sims' Toddler Food DR

Cuz EA's food is UUUUUUUUGLY~! I kept forgetting to install it, only to be rudely reminded every time I had to look at my toddler sims eating MUD.

45 - 46: @mspoodle1's mail pen quill DR and @omedapixel's pencil quill DR

I looooove quill pens IRL (ballpoint pens, not the fountain pens--I'm way too messy), so having mods that let my sims use them too is 👌

47: Fireflies Enhanced! by Canibal_MLO

I love anything that enhances the wildlife and collectibles/harvestables to be more dynamic and interactive. And I was JUST about to do a firefly catching scene for my IWTV insp. gameplay, so this came right on time! The falling leaves effect is delightful, but I kinda wish it was falling flower petals instead, cuz ofc I do. 🌸

48: Unicorn Aurora DR by Canibal_MLO

GORGEOUS. This mod replaces the unicorn mist with northern lights, like.... I love the genius ideas simmers have.

49: Custom Plumbbob Color tool by CrossTheMersey

What a neat idea! Although the default Maxis colors are ingrained in my psyche, with the iconic green plumbbob, as soon as I saw this mod I knew I wanted to at least try something different and play around with it.

50: @aa6x7's Teru Teru Bozu + other edits [Honorable Mention]

I rave about Cmomoney's Time/Weather Mod all the time, I use it constantly. AA6x7's Teru Teru Bozu (Japanese "Sunshine Monk" charms) is kinda like a simpler version of it, as it just resets bad weather back to Sunny. But it's such a cute idea and perfect for my gameplay. Plus, AA6x7 makes all kinds of neat edits/mods to EA's bulky AF meshes, so if you haven't checked them out already, DO!

And that's all the mods I've managed to try out recently!

I don't have anywhere near the kind of free time that I used to, so my simming has been put on the backburner and I've missed all kinds of cool and exciting releases. But trust: I am taking note, so that I know what to try once I have time.

Howdy - I'm Maddie, but you can call me Minerva, minervamagicka or any of the three. I've been playing the Sims since 2010 and making CC for just about as long; though my current focus is Sims 4 equestrian-themed content in collaboration with my partner in crime, Schrodcat, who you can find on DA. Both of us will have a hand in just about everything that is to be released on this tumblr & to DA.

cc master folders

I've reorganized my SFS into folders that I'll be linking below for folks to refer to when searching for my CC. If you'd rather get everything in one go, this is the easiest way to do it!

A Sims 4 Players Guide To The Sims 3 By Simmearly

I am putting this together based on my own gameplay experiences and expectations, so some of this is purely my opinion.

I recently decided that with my new PC I would re-install The Sims 3, and All EPs, to see how it ran and play around with the features I miss in TS4,

I followed this guide on steam to set the game up to run smoothly.

To paraphrase just a little, this includes a TON of information, but basically, it shows you how to replace the launcher, and run the game on modern machines without issues.

Gameplay would not be possible for longer than an in-game week or so without the fantastic NRAAS & Lazy Duchess Mods.

I Use, Nraas Overwatch, Master Controller, Register, Error Trap & Traveller, which is my personal favorite, as it allows you to travel to more worlds for vacations, and own vacation homes in them etc. It also allows for you to move to a new town and retain relationships from the other town(s) you've lived in.

I recommend good default skin and eye replacements, as well as default replacements for Eyebrows and Beards, I Recommend Checking out @brntwaffles on Tumblr, as they have these as well as lighting mods to brighten up the in-game lighting and water!

Gameplay Mods,

I really enjoy TS3 Vanilla gameplay, so this list is short (For Now) however I do want to expand upon it, the Growing Pains Mod - adds a lot to the child stage and I feel like it integrates so well with Vanilla that it could have been in the game from the start.

Shop For Clothes at Clothing Rack, TS2 Style

That's it For Now, I will probably update this post as my Legacy continues, I am currently on Gen 4, and am having a BLAST!

Also - I do own quite a bit of the Store content and I have found myself using it more than expected, I bought a lot of it years ago, and I failed to realize then just how much gameplay is involved,

The Steam it up sauna is currently my favorite object due to its regenerative properties, but the Business-as-Usual industrial Oven, placed on your home lot allows for you to basically have a private chef! (Don't pay full price for any store content, wait for a sale or find it on other avenues) ;)

🔨 TS4 Build mode cheat codes & shortcuts guide 🔨

Cheat codes are simple but essential tool to build more freely in The Sims and create detailed and interesting or realistic lots and enhance the overall experience even when playing with base game only. Cheat codes are not CC, therefore your build will appear CC free in the gallery if you're not using any custom content.

Cheat codes and shortcuts guide below

To enter cheats you have to click ctrl/control + ⇧ Shift + C on your keyboard, this will open a typing space on the top left of your screen where you can enter the cheats listed below. To close it simply click ctrl+Shift+C again. For PS4 and Xbox: Press all four bumper buttons.

bb.moveobjects (type and hit send key) - if you enable only one cheat let it be this one. This is essential to freely place the objects, scale them, rotate them and combine them.

This means the cheat is up and running - this will not slow down your game.

Now you can do a number of things with your items: If you click , and . you can turn the item left and right keeping it aligned to the base grid. If you want to place the item freely, ignoring the base grid and the regular game rules - that prevent you from placing objects on top of each other or even too close to each other - pick the item up and hold Alt (pc) Option (mac). To rotate the item ignoring the grid, pick up the item, hold Alt (pc) Option (mac) and drag. These shortcuts will allow you to create more interesting and realistic layouts by angling and layering object, and it also allows you to clutter surfaces more.

You can also change the size of the objects by clicking [ and ] (or ù depending on the keyboard).

Another super useful thing you can do is to raise an item after you placed it by clicking 9 (or ctrl + 9 if you don't want the build mode camera to move) and to lower it back by clicking 0. You can do this with mirror as well to change where they sit on the wall, and most importantly you can place clutter where there are no slot by raising the item, clicking Alt/Option ad dragging it in place.

Now that you know how to arrange items in an interesting way, you need items to arrange! You can find a whole catalog of FREE items by using two other cheat codes.

bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects - typing these two codes (hit send key after each one) in the cheat bar allows you to use thousands of items that are already in your game but that you can't normally see. To find them you need to search for debug in build/buy menu, and a long list will show up! Have fun!

There are two other combinations that you need to know to really master your builds: Clicking ctrl/control + F on your keyboard while you're placing the flooring in your room allows you to place smaller triangular tiles (one quarter of a tile). This is super useful to create interesting patterns on your floors or to make pathways more interesting.

Roofs can be challenging to deal with, but they are also crucial to the final build and can really make a difference. There is a way to unlock more options to curve your roofs by selecting the roof and clicking ctrl/control + Alt/Option + C. You will immediately see more manipulations handles appear, experiment with them!

I’m WCIF friendly, but I also have a lot of old stuff in my game, so I can’t guarantee anything. I should at least be able to give you names though!

I make TS2 CC exclusively (you will find no ts4 cc here.) and write semi-interesting soap opera style posts based vaguely around gameplay. (with a lot of artistic liberty.) That being said, my writing has some darker themes. I tag appropriately with “tw xxx” as the standard. (ie: “tw death”) please read at your own risk. I’m willing to add extra tw tags for regular readers/mutuals/etc if you send me a dm.

Ten years ago, Arkhelios' "quiet" town was thrown into chaos when one of their beloved founders, Abraham Helios, was found murdered in the park one late night. With no real leads, and no laws as safety nets in place, the case went cold and the town hasn't been the same since. Salem Bellamy stepped up to take over in Abraham's wake, but the peace that followed is strained at best. With new complications on the rise, and the older generation fighting to establish a social hierarchy, the younger generation of residents struggle to find their place, and move on from their traumatic childhoods. But can one really move on, when what's dead and buried doesn't stay that way?

TS4 All Aspirations Challenge

So, I made up a challenge on my own a couple years ago: All Aspirations (creative, I know)

I figured it's about time for me to share this, and I'm currently watching James Turner's SuperSim challenge and it's making me think of it

Speaking of SuperSim, I do wanna address the similarities: The SuperSim challenge consists of: all aspirations, all skills, all reward traits, max careers, etc My All Aspirations challenge only consists of completing all the aspirations; I will not go out of my way to max all skills or careers, unless the aspiration I'm on requires it

OKAY, so lets get into it!!

My challenge (AA for short) is simply what I said above: completing all of the aspirations. Specifically, all adult aspirations. I personally do not want to focus on children's or teen's aspirations, so I personally am not doing that

I have a Google Spreadsheet created that lists all of the aspirations, in the order that I want to complete them (I'll link it below). All of them are in the normal order that shows up in CAS, however Soulmate & all of family aspirations are the final ones, as I didn't want to marry or have children while focusing on the other aspirations

My spreadsheet also has a column for designated careers for each aspiration! Ex: Athlete aspirations = Athlete career, Culinary aspirations = Culinary career, Musical Genius aspiration = Entertainer, etc

I have two Sims for AA: one for normal aspirations, and one for the 10 occult aspirations. The idea here is that, when I reach the Soulmate aspiration, these two Sims will marry each other and have a family together for the family aspirations

I am currently on my third attempt of AA!! I'll reblog with the stories

In my current save, I have completed 2/54 aspirations for my normal Sim and 2/10 aspirations for my occult Sim My normal Sim is about to start raising horses, and my occult Sim is trying to become a Master Vampire!

Conversion process/tutorial for freefall water wall

As inquired by @dailycard, I’m sharing the conversion process for my recent creation: Freefall Water Wall. This guide is NOT intended for beginners as I only show what I think the important steps. If this is the first time you tried to make a conversion, I suggest you try something like Pixel Jackpot’s 4to3 wall decor video tutorial first.

This tutorial will cover:

Using counter shader (part C step 9)

Using phong alpha shader and UV scroll parameter (part C step 6-8)

Making occluder shadow (Part D step 4-15)

This tutorial will NOT cover:

Setting up TSR Workshop (TSRW)

Making object mask

Tools used:

1. Older TSRW (I used the 2.0.86.0 version) for:

Cloning TS3 object base item you want to work on

Importing mesh, because sometimes you can get an error when doing this in the newer TSRW

Changing shader

Adding shader parameter

2. Newer TSRW (I used the latest 2.2.114 version) for:

Exporting TS4 mesh & maps

Changing footprint

Changing bones position

Changing occluder shadow

3. Milkshape & its plugin for TSR Workshop 4. Photoshop

Part A. Prepare the required resources.

A1. In NEWER TSRW:

1. Open the Sims 4 small freefall water wall object. Copy the object’s name, description & price information to a notepad txt file.

2. Export the object mesh. In my case, there is only hLOD available. Considering the mesh is quite low poly anyway, I believe it can be used for as the mLOD as well. The sunshadow is not necessary whatsoever.

3. Export the diffuse map of material 1 (fountain body) & 2 (waterfall effect) as png. Material 0 diffuse map is not necessary because it’s just for drop shadow.

4. Open a similar looking object that has an occluder shadow. I used TS4 Romantic Garden’s Thriumphal Arch of Gluteus Maximus because it has an empty center & covered the upper part (I tested them in game first). Note the value for each of occluder entry (number 3). For this, I just took a photo each with my phone for convenience.

A2. In OLDER TSRW:

Open a Sims 3 object that fit perfectly against a wall. I used the bookshelf modern high 1x1. Export its hLOD mesh and name it along the line of “Wall Fit Reference Mesh”. I suggest using the older TSRW because sometimes I got an error when exporting in the newer version.

Part A check list:

Object’s name, description & price in a notepad txt file.

Small freefall water wall TS4 hLOD mesh as wso file.

Fountain body diffuse map as png file.

Waterfall effect diffuse map as png file.

EACH of occluder shadow entries value as notes/pictures.

Wall fit reference TS3 object mesh as wso file.

Part B. Editing the resources.

B1. In milkshape:

1. Import the small freefall water wall TS4 hLOD mesh. Then import the wall fit reference TS3 object mesh. Your workspace will looked like this:

2. Go to Groups tab. Double click each of the upper “Group 0″, “Group 1″, and “Group 2″ to select them.

3. Go to Model tabs. Choose Move (Number 2). Change the Z value to 0.08 and click Move (Number 3). The waterfall should clip slightly through the reference bookshelf.

4. Go back to the groups tab. Double click each group again to deselect the upper group 0-2 (Number 1). Select the lower group 0 and click delete. Select the lower group 1 and click delete (Number 2&3).

5. Export as “hLOD edit”.

6. Delete the “Group 0″ (red box). Select “Group 1″, rename to “Group 0”. Select “Group 2″, rename to “Group 1” (green box). Export as “mLOD edit”.

B2. In photoshop:

1. Import your fountain body diffuse map png file. Your workspace should looked like this:

2. Add the hue/saturation & levels adjustment layer.

3. In the hue/saturation adjustment layer, under the master control I changed the saturation value to -100 and lightness to -15. Save as “multiplier map” in png format.

4. You can also use the level adjustment layer to tweak its brightness and make the (optional) “specular map” in png format. I didn’t do this step as the lion fountain I’m using as clone doesn’t require it.

5. Make the masking map in png format. This is more of trial & error though, so I will not explain much. Here’s the mask map comparison I created as reference against the original diffuse map:

Part B check list:

1. Combined these item in milkshape:

Small freefall water wall TS4 hLOD mesh as wso file.

Wall fit reference TS3 object mesh as wso file.

To make:

hLOD edit mesh as wso file.

mLOD edit mesh as wso file.

2. Edited the “fountain body diffuse map as png file” in photoshop to make:

Multiplier map as png file.

Specular map as png file (optional).

Mask map as png file.

3. Unused part A items:

Object’s name, description & price in a notepad txt file.

Waterfall effect diffuse map as png file.

EACH of occluder shadow entries value as notes/pictures.

Part C. Building the object. In OLDER TSRW:

1. Clone the fountain france statue 2x2 TS3 object. Under the project tab, input the object’s name, description & price. Change the item flags. In my case, I do not change anything because I want the waterfall fountain to be found and placed similarly to the lion fountain. Save your project!

2. Go to textures. Choose the 2nd swatch dropdown option. Click on the smaller dropdown option on the left of it and choose delete.

3. Import your mask map. Do the same to your multiplier & (optional) specular map. Make sure your overlay & stencil maps is empty. You can also change the pattern now or just leave it the same as default. Save your file.

4. Go to mesh tab. Import your “hLOD edit” and “mLOD edit” mesh.

5. Select the “Shadow high level of detail”. Click on the generate shadow mesh. Choose the “160 vertices, 92 faces”. In my case, I can do the same for “Shadow medium level of detail”. Ignore the weird white square for now. We will remove it later. Save your file.

6. Select the “High level of detail” from the drop down menu again (Number 1). Edit the Group 2 material (Number 2). Choose the Phong alpha shader (Number 3). When prompted, choose YES! (Number 4)

7. Click the blue “+ Add” to show a new property window. Choose the UVScrollSpeed from the drop down menu. Click OK.

8. Replace the alpha map & diffuse map with “waterfall effect diffuse map” (Number 1&2). Make empty the Specular map (Number 3). Change the UV scroll speed parameter to 0 ; -0,8 (Number 4). When prompted to update the material definition to all LOD, choose YES (Number 5).

NOTE: If the object animation played in a different direction than intended here, change the UV Scroll Speed Parameter to positive or vice versa.

9. Go back to the main mesh tab, now choose to edit the group 1 material (number 1). Change the phong shader to counters shader (Number 2 & 3). If prompted to use the common values for this shader, choose NO! (Number 4). Click Done (Number 5). When prompted to update the material definition to all LOD, choose YES! (Number 6). Don’t forget to check if the changes has been made in the Medium Level of Detail. Save your file.

Part C check list:

1. In the “Project” tab: Edited the object’s name, description & price.

2. In the “Textures” tab:

Imported multiplier, specular (optional), and mask map.

Make sure your overlay & stencil maps is empty or disabled.

Change the pattern (optional).

3. In the “Mesh” tab:

Imported hLOD and mLOD edit mesh.

Generated the sunshadow in “Shadow High” and “Shadow Medium Level of Detail”.

Change the Group 2 Material to phong alpha shader, add the UV Scroll Speed parameter to 0 ; -0,8, import the alpha & diffuse map, and empty the specular map.

Change the Group 1 Material to counter shader.

Part D. Finishing the object. In NEWER TSRW:

1. Open your saved project. Go to the Slots tab (Number 1). Edit the Footprints (Number 2). Select the first 160 vertices (Number 3&4) and click calculate (Number 5). Change the Z value of 0,0114142708 to exactly 0. Change the value of -0,425990343 to exactly -0,425 (Number 6). Click OK (Number 7).

2. Expand the bones group (Number 1). Select the fountainTop entry to edit (Number 2). Change the Translation Y to -0,1 (Number 3). Click OK (Number 4). Save your project.

3. In the Misc tab, change the floor cutout bounds length to 0. This will remove the weird white square from before.

4. It’s recommended to create a new save file now as we will be editing the occulders. Expand the lights section and edit the Light 0 to show the Lite Editor Window (Number 1). Manually replace every occlusion entry value with the ones you noted/took photo of (Number 2). In my case the entry listed here is up to 8 occulders while the reference only had 6, so you can just delete the entry 7 & 8 using the - button.

NOTE: When manually inputing the value, use the tab key to quickly switch to the next value. You can also opt out the last zeroes from the value. If the original value was 1,51974000; you can just input 1,51974 and the zeroes will be automatically added after clicking OK.

5. The occluders should looked like this now. Try familiarizing yourself with each of the occluders by clicking on the light 56 entries one by one before we edit them to fit the object.

6. This is what I think how the occluder value works. Since I couldn’t find other sources, please let me know if I am incorrect. This is based on our occluder #1.

7. Now I want to change the starting point z value so it could fit much better. This whole part is a trial and error process. I changed the value from 0,444477 to -0,1.

8. Referencing to Pocci’s Blog, for the green note I wrote the value are more accurately called inversely proportional (as in 1/n). For example if I know the height of the object is exactly 3 tiles (n), equate 1/3 and I can input the value 0,3333333 to get the perfect height.

9. Next, I think the thickness of the object was 1/3 tiles, so using the equation 1/n and input 3 as the Y-axis z value without changing the - mark.

10. Lastly, I want the pair occluder to be closer, so I changed the pair offset value from 0,733... to just 0,28. Now we are finished with occluder #1.

11. Let’s jump to occluder #3 as it was the mirror of occluder #1. We can change the value similar to the occluder #1 while preserving the - value only for the orange circle shown below:

Occluder #3 result:

12.For occluder #6, the starting point is okay. We just need to change the plane size, shown red below:

13. Occluder #5 is similar to occluder #6, but with extra step fixing the starting point. Shown red below:

14. For occluder #2, I wanted to move it to the ground because when placed near the ceiling, the shadow they cast seemed less noticeable anyway. The values changed are shown red below:

15. For the final occluder #4, you can either delete them or fixing a few value shown red below. They intersect with the ceiling anyway so they won’t be noticeable if you delete them.

16. DONE! Export your file & test in game :)
