Jimbei and Luffy's relationship is so special to me. Like, Jimbei only knew him as Ace's little brother and he already established that that only went so far with him, but then Luffy freed him and they fought together and by the end of it Jimbei decided that he'd protect him with his life. He rescued him physically, but also mentally and emotionally. He saw Luffy bleeding his heart out and said, "I'll cradle your innards until you're ready to shove them back in through sheer force of will," and Luffy did. When they parted ways, they already planned to see each other again and, when it looked like they might miss each other, Jimbei sent a message so Luffy would still be able to find him. Literally shared blood, an act whose significance is exponentially increased by the fact that they're a human and a fish-man. Right in front of a kingdom watching them spit in the face of lifetimes of prejudice, Luffy asked Jimbei to join his crew, then went nuts when he asked him to wait until he wrapped up his business. He was immediately like, "I gotta live up to their expectations, earn my place in the crew, live by the straw hat, die by the straw hat". Huggies and piggyback rides. In the middle of all this, he apparently gushed so much about Luffy to his crew that they expected their own captain to leave them. When Luffy talked about the end of his dream, even though Jimbei thought it was ridiculous at first, he ended up taking it seriously because it was his captain's dream.

Jimbei's like, "I believe this man and his crew will achieve what the greater powers in the four seas have been attempting and failing to do for the last 40 years and more. He's the key to ending the oppression of our race and leading the world to the light. While he hasn't achieved his full potential yet, what he is now is enough for me to swear my undying loyalty to him. His cause is my cause. His name is Luffy-kun~."

That's Luffy's Devil Fruit! The pattern on his Fruit might be what the marks on gear 4 are imitating. Either this is the first time his Fruit flashed after the markings where done forming or this is the first time I've notice but it's still cool in my opinion

sometimes i think about whole cake island and how it literally ripped me apart into pieces seeing sanji trying so hard to protect the crew at the cost of giving up the people who love him and going back to his abusive family and seeing luffy go through so much pain and exhaustion just to get him back…how luffy was so excited that sanji was back by his side at the end of the day and it didn’t matter what he went through to get to that point…how sanji would take being berated and abused every day if it meant the rest of the crew got to reach their dreams…how luffy smiled through the broken shards to let the crew think he’s okay when he was struggling so badly…i’m going fucking insane

Thinking about the shared theme of staying true to yourself during Whole Cake, Wano, and a bit of the next arc.

Whole Cake Island arc tests Sanji with being separated from the SHs when Germa 66 reenter his life, attempting to force him into a life that would separate him from the family he's found. Though he ultimately decides to fight to be with the SHs.

While in battle with Luffy, Katakuri learns to stop hiding the parts of his personality others called weak, for the sake of appearing strong.

During Act Two of Wano, Zoro finds himself befriending both a member of the clan which he is descended from, Yasuie, and the princess of the country, Kozuki Hiyori. Because of his heritage, Zoro technically has some claim to at least one region of the country, and Hiyori could grant it to him. Though during his fight with King, Zoro restates his promises to his captain and to his best friend, and conquers Enma/Kozuki Oden's legacy. It's not Zoro's responsibility to help settle a generations old clan dispute by killing Orochi, who he likely thought was already dead when Kaido beheaded him then made his announcement to all of Onigashima. Where King could only follow in Kaido's footsteps and has no goal of his own to chase, no "Kuina" to balance his absolute loyalty to Kaido. So he falls.

During Acts One and Two of Wano, the SHs get to know Kiku in scenarios which allow her to be the truest to herself, until the end of the arc bath scene. Enjoying working with Otsuru at the teahouse in her pretty kimono, helping Luffy, Zoro and, Tama in various ways, rebelling against entitled jerks like Urashima, and being team mom on the way to Udon Prison to help Luffy.

Then throughout the rest of the arc, we see her gradually pulled back into being the retainer Wano expects her to be. Though much like Katakuri forcing himself to be the perfect protector of his crew, being a retainer is not the lifestyle Kiku truly wants for herself. After things hit their lowest point during the battle on Onigashima, it's one of the SHs, and her brother who found happiness away from Wano who, similarly to Katakuri learning to not compromise on being who he wants to be from Luffy, inspire Kiku to stop trying to meet to an unfair standard she felt she needed to live up to. Which she seems to have followed through on, if her absence during the Ryokugyu fight is anything to go by.

I love that shared theme of being true to yourself, in spite of the wishes of/obligations to your family. It has lead to some of the most powerful stories told in the series. And with the current arc maintaining shared themes to Kiku's story through characters like Bonney, Stussy, and Sentomaru, it seems Oda isn't done with those ideas yet.
