Okay so I’ve been looking at shipping to America for the shop I’m working on. I used to have an Etsy then I moved it over to Big Cartel for a bit then Shopify for a very brief month but then my mental health declined shit happened irl and I took a break. I’m now wanting to get back into selling stuff again so I’m going back to Big Cartel but the thing is shipping has gone up in general but also because I’m now selling items other than jewellery my shipping is harder to do. When I was selling jewellery I knew I could fit everything into a large letter and keep it under the weight limit but now some of the stuff I’m selling/planning to sell will have to go under small parcel purely because of the depth/height limit on large letters which is basically nothing. So for a Large letter at 750grams the price is £14.50 with basic insurance. A small parcel at 750grams the price is £15.50 with basic insurance. But a small parcel at 1kg the price is £17.20 with basic insurance. This is the tracked prices - it’s actually cheaper on small parcels than untracked which is just?!? So if I charged say a flat rate of £15 I’d cover everything but the 1kg & that’s without incl packaging costs which would eat into my profits instead. But I’m not selling super high cost items and I just can’t imagine trying to charge someone £15 for shipping when they might only want to buy a few small items. Idk what to do? I mean as an American would this put you off buying? I don’t really see I have much choice though. Pricing has gone up quite a bit than when I used to sell my jewellery and I’d feel bad charging that much but I can’t be charging at a massive loss either. Idk if I should just not even try selling to the US tbh.
