Is it possible to have a head start on life before you’re even a concept in your parents’ mind? That’s what Jasper had in his hand. The third child of Nicholas and Amarie Salvo (nee Windsor, in his mother’s case) – success was a given, and the money was always raining down. Jasper’s fully convinced that Windsor, his mother’s surname links them to the royal family… Doubtful, but he goes with it.
Together his parents founded the Apeti Restaurant Group. A restaurant collection and consulting service that worked alongside hotels. All it took was becoming the flagship restaurant team for a couple of major hotels over in the City, and they were off. Money was always flowing in and their business was ready to go. They flew around the world, bringing their creative minds and menus to everything from boutique hotels to large conference centers.
Eventually, they decided to settle down in Ridgefield. A suburb about an hour from New York City proper and filled with other successful families who wanted to be close to the city without being right inside of it. Oh, and it was one of the wealthiest towns in the country. No big deal. They wanted a family for selfish reasons – to keep their name and their dream alive. To prepare their heirs to take over the company – as antiquated as that was.
Being the youngest, and the only boy, he was given what little energy his parents had to devote to actually being well.. parents. They coddled him, showered him with compliments, treated him like he was the future of the Salvo family and Apeti empire… To say it gave him an ego was an understatement.
Jasper’s older siblings, Flora and Chloe, both want nothing to do with the business. They didn’t want to live in the shadow of something that was created for them. Flora fled to the West Coast, and Chloe to give entire being to academia. Jasper didn’t pay much attention to what she was studying, only knew it was way out of his league.
So once he was old enough, the path was basically picked out for him. Business school or bust. Luckily, his grades (and the money that came along with his enrollment) got him into the business program at Cornell University.
And of course, he took college for all it gave him – parties, sex, drugs. You name it… not a lot of learning business, but time learning other things.
It was where he picked up on the tricks of acting like you knew what you were doing, the power of a smile and a pretty face. The power of playing the game. He’d seen it in action with his parents. You could get whatever you want if you threw a smile and some big words on…so that became his calling. Getting everything he wanted without working for it. Did he deserve the opportunity? Probably not. Was he good at it? Absolutely.
Now, Jasper wasn’t exactly mean. He was cunning, a bit of a player, but he didn’t get by with backstabbing. He got by with genuine compliments and kind words – overdoing them to a point it was saccharine, but they were real.
That was where the “Duke” nickname came from. Somewhere between his first days at Cornell and his position as a center forward on the soccer team, he realized that he liked power. He liked how he was treated when people saw him as in power… So he pulled in that good ole Windsor name and picked out a nickname that was royal and important. Plus it sounded cool, and people accepted it.
Unfortunately, with the little wins came the bad. Jasper got power hungry. He realized that just as easily as he could get by with the truth, he could get by with a loophole. They weren’t lies, but they weren’t real… and it was his chance to live the little rebellion that every rich kid wanted.
Gambling, joy rides, bets… He picked up on the con-artist life. It gave him a rush and in his mind, it was harmless. Sure, people could lose money. But no one got hurt… that much.
After graduation, his way with words and pretty face spelled out one clear path: sales. Winning contracts and bids like no other for his parent’s company. Because why bother applying anywhere when you have a job set up for you? They put him high up in the ranks from day one, and he’s now the Sales Manager for Apeti. Does he work hard? Not much, but his office is pretty sweet.
Headcanons:
“Duke” is Jasper’s nickname due to an heir of self-importance. The moniker, chosen by himself, alludes to royalty and the dominance that he thinks he has over his friends and his coworkers. He’s always thought of himself as the crème de la crème, and there’s nothing that can change his mind. Does that mean that he thinks he deserves more than he has? Absolutely. If he could get people to bow and kiss at his feet, he absolutely would.
Jasper has a temper underneath everything. He’s so used to winning people over, being the best of the best, so on and so forth, that when he hits a wall – he cracks (the occasional lines and pills don’t help either – but that’s business, baby!).
He’s a bit of a snake and con. He doesn’t do it enough to get himself in trouble, but he isn’t afraid to find those little loopholes and bend them large enough until he’s able to crawl through. Making a bet to get some extra drinks but playing with a stacked deck of cards. “Stealing” but justifying it by saying he’ll bring it back eventually. Saying things that sound one way but have a hidden meaning. It’s why he threw in a philosophy minor – only instead of learning morality, it was all amorality. Besides, what’s life without breaking the rules?
He’s quiet about it, but due to his family’s industry, he grew up knowing how to cook and how to cook well. It’s on the down low because he doesn’t want to get himself wrapped up in being the go to cook.
He’s got a thing for watches and cuff links, both shiny and overly expensive objects that he’s amassed a collection of… how he gets them? Well, he’ll never tell.
Like any good future business bro, he likes showing off his personality with brightly printed and patterned socks and ties, and the occasional goofy short-sleeved collared shirt.

On Friday night Ocean Crest Apartments caught fire, having started in a vacant apartment on the 10th floor. What was originally thought to have been an accident though was quickly discovered to be an act of arson.
Ten minutes after the fire in Ocean Crest began, town hall was raided and set on fire from within. Aurora Bay's mayor, Raymond Ellis, was found tied to a chair. He was rushed to the Emergency Medical Center but due to his severe burns and smoke inhalation, he did not survive.
It is evident that there were multiple people involved in this, though no one has been found guilty at this time.
Detective Diego Martinez is leading the investigation, so there is no doubt in anyone's mind that there will be an end to this soon.
Sadly, though, not everyone made it out of the Ocean Crest. The apartment fire took the lives of three residents from extensive burn injuries and smoke inhalation, and the town hall's fire took the lives of two.
While Ocean Crest is still standing, there is quite a lot of damage done to the interior. The fire damaged most of the top floors rather than those below, but those who live in Ocean Crest must find places to stay during renovations, which will take approximately one month. Thankfully since school is out for the summer, the shelters will stay in place in the gymnasiums in our Elementary and High School, and the Seascape Hotel will offer discounted rates for those affected by the fire. Just like we did during the storm our town saw a few months ago, we will take care of our residents to the absolute best of our ability.

While it is now known that the Mayor was stealing money from the town, the fact that the fires are linked to that is still speculation at this time.
People will have heard about masked figures that were spotted fleeing the scenes of both crimes that night, so there will definitely be talk of that.
The suspects are listed above, so feel free to have characters completely believe they are guilty or totally innocent. (but of course, none of the suspects above are guilty, as the culprits are both NPCs, but it just adds to the drama!)
What people will start to realize is that the descriptions of the masked figures seen leaving the scenes will not match the descriptions of any of the names listed above, so with that, along with other evidence that will come out slowly, the suspects above will be ruled out.
We've asked the mun of Diego Martinez if they would like to write a statement for him to share, so that will be posted along with more information about the event as the mystery starts to unfold!
If you have police officers or firefighters who would like to make statements, please message the main and we can plot it out!
As stated above, those who are living in Ocean Crest will need to find places to stay until renovations are done. Feel free to plot out temporary-roommates or anything like that! anyone without a person to stay with can stay in either of the school gyms, or can rent out a room at the hotel or b&b
So! The mystery has yet to be sovled! We wanted to give time for characters to speculate about what is going on and who is behind it! We love the IC drama and there's just so much that can happen with this!

ok thus far if I was a character it would probably be toni or dot. cackling at the thought of being henry but im too bitchy and irritable for that irl 💀 if I was stuck with the girls, i would probs hang with fatin and dot 🥰 maybe rachel too bcuz i love her (so many feelings about s2 Rachel. this is sooooo fucked up). i would not talk to Leah. I rlly would not. she would mention her bf and i would go 😐. im sorry Leah. I understand u as a character and understand ur narrative complexities and being a vessel for the plot but LORD if I met her irl.
anyway if I was in the guys little fucked up circle initially i would've chilled with ivan and henry. would bicker with ivan 75% of the time, but it would be fun. bo is so sweet tho. also liked rafe for a bit. 💗💗💗💗 something that has been killing me is 1. the seth plot. and 2. how uneven the boys backstories are compared to s1... they're just not given the same respect. i also see what u mean about rafe potentially being protagonist but then there's no way to confidentially call him that the way u can for Leah. granted, this IS the girls' story, but it feels like a waste ... only 2 eps left tho so idk
ok u as dot just feels real and right to me that’s so true. and u ivan and henry is kind of a nuclear trip that would be so funny
and hard agree on 2 i think the space to include the boys full stories would have been great but there just was not enough time in the episodes. like the girls were progressing in a really intriguing way but i also wanted space to fill out the lore of the boys to give their stories justice and due diligence too like it just felt so crammed. i feel this season should have been ten eps just so things could be more thinly spread because the boys are INTERESTING and i really like seeing them it just seems like a dilemma of focus that will be cast aside by s3 no spoilers ofc.
and the seth plot being the central conflict for the boys was. a choice. because i hate it on its merit and the fact that it exists but also the ripple effect of how it radically changed the atmosphere on their island and their chances of survival was something that i feel the girls didn’t have (and intentionally so because clearly that’s gretchen’s aim) particularly irt the development of characters like henry kirin josh and raf. it builds the meat of the boys screen time and basically defines their time on the island but i just wish it was anything else.
then again i’m not sure if ur up to seth’s backstory bits but i feel like those make u go “ok yeah that tracks and is completely expected from that creature” as vile as it is. which is also kind of wack because initially the end of ep4 came as a huge like WHOA tw out of the blue thing besides the precedent of his scene with henry on the beach, so it’s just introduced poorly then not really supported well until the end of the season basically. ugh just sloppy but conflict is conflict i guess and also alex fitzalan is acting his ass off if i ever saw that man in public i would cross the street and start running away
edit: back to the boys characters THIS IS A CHARACTER DRIVEN SHOW!!!!!! yes it is plot heavy and set heavy but like there’s a reason season one depended on individual vignettes and spotlights on each girl, and how she related to their journey to survival you can’t just eliminate that and try to tell another compelling story without that element of strong full focused characters to tell it for u. ugh

they were high school sweethearts, the type that everyone thought would end up together, but didn’t because he moved at the opposite side of the world for college (either somewhere in asia or australia since aurora is from new york). the two tried to make the long distance thing work, but it only lasted for half a year since it was hard going from being with each other at least 5 days a week to just doing facetime calls every other day. during her christmas break, aurora flew to where he was living to surprise him but instead, she was surprised to see just how happy he was when she has been completely miserable without him. he seemed to be fitting well with his new friends and she seemed like a thing in the past now. somehow, the distance between them seemed to have only grown further more when she came. since neither of them really wanted to face the truth that their relationship was coming to an end, they just slowly started to ghost each other--which wasn’t hard when there was no chance that they would cross each other’s path again. they never had a proper closure and without that, a part of her would always long for him. they haven’t really seen each other for like at least six years now. i do like the idea of them being on the same place at the same time though but never actually meeting. we could go on either way here, the angst of the lost love or them trying to rekindle what they had before. i’m just kinda obsessed with niki’s oceans and engines and i’m putting it up as a headcanon that aurora wrote it for your muse. let’s just see how they vibe, yeah?

excuse me did you see alex fitzalan hanging around palmwood studios? oh no, that was obadiah " obie " shredder , the twenty eight year old actor who plays tyler colby on beautiful small untruthers. yeah, you know rumour has it they're - detached, and - smart aleck, but their fans all say they’re + endearing, and + inventive. around palmwood studios they’re known as the polymath. ( cis male, he/they)
BACKSTORY
obie was born in missouri , where he doesn’t care to remember and he’s never bothered to go looking in the shredder family records for his adoption papers. his birth parents were drug addicts.
obadiah was born on a stormy night , there was a tornado which is why he was born in a hospital instead of the trailer. it was probably the care he got as an infant that helped him turn out so “ normal “ all other things considered.
his infancy and childhood up until age four was hell , obie has a photographic memory so he remembers every detail but refuses to speak about it to anyone other than his grandfather or therapist. tw ( think food insecurity and abuse. )
the state took obie into custody after he showed up to kindergarten with burn holes in his clothing and visibly unkempt. after being placed with an awful foster family , he and one of the older foster siblings ( wanted connection!! ) made a run for it. the two of them made it to texas where they were taken into state custody again , unfortunately the two were separated. this was only made worse by how large and unorganized the texas state government is.
enter the shredders. bud and annabelle already had six children when they adopted obadiah , they didn’t change his name saying it fit rather well already. turbo , keithan , drew , cooper , aza and noah were all so different that it took a bit of adjusting to really find his place in the new , large, loud family.
bud shredder and his father tex ( we love pop pop ) are known for NASCAR , being some of the best drivers in history. they helped make the sport what it is with the oldest ( turbo ) following in her father’s footsteps until a tragic accident. annabelle is a famous writer and former teenage actress ( think s.meyer mixed with drew barrymore ) who has a very loyal and large fanbase , she’s basically been able to focus on her novels and being a stay at home mom.
obie’s relationship with his siblings is strained to say the least. at around eight years old , the six of them collectively played a prank consisting of them acting like he was invisible for a whole year. this fucked with the final coalescing of his personality and he developed a mild form of depersonalization/derealization disorder. struggles with the idea that he’s real ( like truly real and what he does has an effect on the world ). it generally manifests as an unawareness of consequences as well as an assumption that he is immaterial to life.
after cycling through every single after school activity and hobby the shredders would let him do, he settles on piano at ten and by age thirteen , obie auditions for the competition starspot and makes it to the live rounds. unfortunately , he’s not strong enough to go on as a solo act and is placed into a band with other hopefuls called two places. the group didn’t win starspot but they did grow a massive fanbase. shoutout to the travelers!
his life changed after that , the shredders moved to LA to support his career which took off much to his surprise. going from ignored to adored was a challenge but for six years straight he was just going and going. deemed the smart responsible one of the band in the meantime.
after the contract was up , obie didn’t think he wanted to renew it or really go back to music. the media liked to portray him as the one who ‘broke up the band’. maybe one day he’ll sing again but for now , he wanted something different. polymath brain craving to learn something new so acting it was , auditioning for tyler colby partially because the part was interesting but mainly because his childhood best friend was on the cast.

yeah most of the people who were into sethael have deleted stuff. i feel kinda bad for them bc like. regardless of how it’s kinda silly to get invested in a ship before the characters are actually out, there wasn’t really any way to predict how bad that would turn out. plus, at least one of the actors (reed i believe) actually made a positive tweet abt sethael at one point before the season dropped? weird vibes

I guess I'm just grateful that I can't get into ships until I know the characters. I can't act like I know a whole lot apart from the fact that Sethael was a thing before s2 dropped. I just remember thinking at one point, like, omg Sethael was a thing and now Seth is a monster, which yeah, it really couldn't be predicted that it would be as bad as it is. I would understand if it's because it's Alex Fitzalan. I have a friend who loves him from The Society I think is the show name? But then again, maybe I just don't understand shipping the boys before we knew who they were? It took me until 1x09 to really get on board with Leatin, so maybe I just don't latch onto ships quickly lmao.

PERSONALITY
If you had to describe Chandler in one phrase, it could easily be "trust issues". He's not a bad person, but he's happy to let people assume the worst about him and roll with that reputation. It's the best way he knows to protect himself. It's not that he tries to act edgy or like a completely unlikeable jerk, but more that he keeps a wall between himself and most people. Sometimes that means sharpening his sarcastic nature into a weapon, but often times it results in more of a laid back, apathetically sarcastic presence. Find some common ground with him and his defenses will seem to lower, and you'll find yourself talking to a much kinder version of him. He can count on one hand the amount of people he feels he can fully be himself around. Those 'lucky' few will receive wild video game/cartoon conspiracies, unhinged memes at three in the morning, and random tupperware containers of delicious food he's made too much of. After nearly a year of living in Merrock, he's just now starting to believe that he's finally on stable ground in his life, but he still has a strong self-sabotaging streak that he's willfully and stubbornly oblivious to.

BACKGROUND / BIO

Chandler was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John and Susan Linwood. Although his earliest years were spent living in the city, almost all of his childhood memories were made at the family's next home in the suburb of Wayzata. His mom was an ER doctor, and his dad had a cushy office job (although he didn't have the passion for his career that Susan did). On the outside, they were the all around perfect American dream family. But reality is never that simple, and things were quite different behind closed doors. Between Susan's long hours at the hospital, and John's nasty habit of getting wasted every night, Chandler had to grow up fast. One thing his mom impressed on him from a young age was not to tell anyone what was happening at home or reach out for help. This led to a general distrust of authority figures and a lot of acting out at school.
By the time Chandler was a teenager, things at home had deteriorated even more. He wasn't sure how much of that was his parents actually getting worse, and how much of that was him growing up and being able to understand what 'normal' was supposed to look like. It wasn't that they didn't love him, and he knew he was at least lucky to know they truly cared about him. But he realized more and more that they were simply two people who never should have started a family, especially not with each other.
It wasn't until college that Chandler learned about asexuality, so he spent a lot of high school confused. He had always been romantically and aesthetically attracted to every gender. But when his friends would talk about sex, he couldn't relate to what they were saying. Surely, people didn't just look at each other and think 'I wanna fuck that person', or obsess over sex the way they claimed to...right? He spent most of high school trying to feel the way everyone else did. He thought if he just slept with the right person, it would all click into place. It never did. But he did develop quite the reputation for sleeping around and drinking too much at parties. The second thing was the only way he could really escape Wayzata at the time, but he had a plan. Get into a good, out of state college and never look back. Most people assumed he didn't really take his studies seriously, that he had somehow gotten into mostly AP classes by coasting. But he was balancing taking care of his parents, mountains of homework and keeping up a crazy social life like he was constantly walking some kind of tightrope all while acting like nothing phased him.
It paid off when the acceptance letters started coming in. Chandler chose a school that was far enough away from his parents to avoid getting sucked back into Wayzata. He refused to be a sad pop punk song about some angsty kid who never escaped their hometown. When he got to college, Chandler quickly realized he had never thought that far ahead. He had no idea what he wanted to major in, or do with his life now. He realized part of him never expected to succeed in leaving Minnesota behind. At the same time he was struggling to find interest in his school work, he found his life revolving around college parties. He reasoned to himself that this is exactly what college kids were supposed to do; drink too much several times a week and then go to class exhausted the next day.
It only took him a couple years to spiral out of control. After meeting a girl at a party, they hit it off and got serious pretty quickly. She had her own issues that didn't mix well with his own. At her insistence, he dropped out of college (he was still aimlessly drifting around campus taking gen-ed classes without being any closer to figuring out what his major should be). After that, he was extremely isolated and his whole life revolved around her. Their relationship became more toxic and by the time Chandler realized he needed to leave, he no longer knew how to. So he stayed with her for a awhile longer, relying on drinking and other self destructive habits to numb himself to his life.
His one-way ticket out of the college town came in the form of a phone call from his dad. John's brother had died. Uncle Paul had an ex-wife (it was a nasty divorce that had dragged out through much of Chandler's teen years), but no children. He didn't live in Minnesota, but sometimes he'd come stay at the house for a week or two and watch Chandler while his parents went out of town on a kid-free trip and he always treated Chandler like the son he never had. He was the closest thing Chandler had to an adult he could trust (although he never discussed his parents quirks with his uncle - even as an adult he never wanted to open that can of worms). Without any immediate family of his own, Paul had left his vacation home in Maine to Chandler. He didn't think twice before packing what he could in a suitcase and going to check out Merrock himself. He's been there ever since.
Chandler had a history of doing freelance photography to fill the gaps between what his parents were sending and the cost of living. But, as much as he enjoyed photography, he didn't have the connections in Merrock to go full-time with it. And he was so new to town, he didn't know how reliable it would be for income in the long run. So he got a job at Pause for Paws. It might seem like an odd fit for someone who's not exactly warm and fuzzy himself, but Chandler loves animals and had never really been able to have a pet in his life. And with him being really into cooking and a good amateur bartender, he figured those skills would be transferrable to working in a cafe. Since getting more settled into small town life, he has adopted a dog named Jenna and a cat from the cafe he named Ryan Renolds.
