quick question (pun intended, even though I’m not asking abt him XD) what is Shadow Man’s role/personality like in your AU? From what I’ve seen, it’s like he’s pretty young and Top Man is kind of his friend? Guardian?
Hiiiiiii, ur ask got me so excited I yelled in my car on my way home from work/so so so positive
So. The 3 bots!!! They are so so cute to me (I call everything cute) because I love that they were made to function specifically as a team! A team to travel space together and mine power crystals?? They are so fun.
After the events of the 3rd game (which I will. Hopefully draw out one day) the 3 bots actually get to do their job!!! (After a lot of convincing from dr.light to the government or w/e that these robots will not go rogue again.)
Top (the leader), Needle, Spark, Magnet, Hard, Snake and Gemini all travel into space in a giant ship (I like to imagine they reused gamma in some way for this…I haven’t drawn it out yet tho) and investigate interstellar power sources!
Their missions are going great and their reports back to Light are pretty normal! Until…
During one if his expeditions, Top stumbles upon an injured robot…in the middle of space??
Concerned, they take him back to their ship where he quickly charms the entire crew with his odd personality and adowable face. He doesn’t talk much, but he’s super excited to meet everyone, especially Top.
Eventually, they go back home to Earth and bring the mystery robot to Doctor Light but for some reason-
They have *absolutely* not clue what the hell he’s made out of. Although he has the looks of a robot, he seemingly doesn’t have any actually mechanical components! Anytime they try to get a reading on what’s goin on in there, the images come out blurry and weird. Light worries about what would happen if Wily heard about this mysterious life form….(spoiler alert. He totally hears about it later)
In the meantime, the 3 bots offer to keep an eye on him. Light allows it, and thus, we have the final full 3rd group!
With a great team spirit and hardworking attitudes the 3 bots have a bit more spice added to their lives with the addition of “Shadowman”! Named such due to his tendency to hide behind others like a shadow :^3
It must’ve been fate that lead them to each other…

(Spoiler. It wasn’t)
Anyways. TLDR- yes, Top is like a guardian of sorts for Shadow lmao. He found a weird space baby and said “yeah, I’ll adopt him.” Little did he know that the space baby had this all planned from the beginning.

Episode 2 of ‘A Discovery of Witches’ season 2 #RealTimeWatch and things are going from bad to worse for Matthew Roydon. His situation is best summed up as between a rock and a hard place. He’s struggling to pick up the threads of his past life when he was Elizabeth’s witch hating, brutal enforcer. If the Queen and her spymaster, William Cecil, find out his secret then his witchy gf Diana will be in grave danger. He has to ‘be’ his former self to keep them both safe but at great personal cost.
On the upside - Matthew gets an earring.

I'm reading "A Court of Thorns and Roses" (Sarah J. Maas), and I'm finding I'm disliking it for very similar reasons to "A Discovery of Witches" (Deborah Harkness). They both have a very Fanfic feel to me, in that they seem like mediocre romance stories embedded into relatively rich fantasy worlds, where the male love interest is the more interesting character. [Spoilers below]
The big problem I'm having with the two stories is that they're ostensibly about a great mystery/global problem, where a talented protagonist gets whisked away into a world where they're a much smaller player. But then the bigger story just...stalls...to focus on the Romance Plot between the woman and a much stronger man.
The love interest is a very powerful entity (High Lord of the Fae and millennia-old vampire, respectively), who is very much one of the Good Ones who wants to protect the helpless woman with every fiber of their being, and slowly chips away at her dislike for him by being Good and Gentle and Kind and never taking any liberties because he's just that Gentlemanly despite desperately having to restrain himself from ripping her clothes off. And is taking absolutely forever to get to the sex part, which I'm sure is going to utterly halt the main plot for quite a while while they finally let it happen (I haven't got there in ACOTAR but it absolutely happened in ADOW, and I know how romance stories go).
The other bit that's bothering me is that the competence of the main character is praised constantly, but she doesn't get to do anything. She gets captured or put in danger a lot and has to be rescued despite her stated competence. Mostly, the thing that seems to make her irresistible is some level of Virtue that makes her Not Like Other Mortals.
In ACOTAR, the protagonist is a expert-level huntress who kills a high fae, which really feels like it's going to be a thing given the encroachment of other fae, but Love Interest is protecting her from things that are much too strong for her. She has already needed rescuing like 3 times and I'm only halfway done.
In ADOW, it was way more annoying; the protagonist was one of the greatest historians of her generation with strongly suppressed witch power, but spends most of the story not being at all interested by the fact that Love Interest has been around 2000 years and can tell her historian stuff. (He has too much pain in his past, see, and she doesn't want to push him. And, like, super nerds who get tenure at Oxford by age 28 don't just let questions go?) She never gets to do anything with her scholarship after it finally draws him into her plot. And despite being of great power herself, she calmly waits while kidnapped, because of course he'll rescue her.
I don't mind romance stories! I just feel I was sold a much more interesting fantasy novel.
(As a side note, I looked it up and the same narrator reads the audiobook for both series. Which certainly contributes to the vibes being very similar.)

Adow question ~ What kind of father do you think Jack would be to his children? Would he take cues from Matthew’s style of parenting?
It’s mentioned in the Book of Life that’d he sired children (who were killed by Benjamin) but I’m curious about what he would’ve been like to them had they lived after Benjamin was killed.
I think it would take Jack a long time before he sires again - Benjamin, the uncertainty around blood rage. I think he would definitely follow Matthew's example but kinder - very much wanting to mentor and let that person flourish.
