i don’t have a screenshot but i saw someone try to say that thrawn in the ahsoka show was a better character than thrawn in the novels. i had to physically put my phone down for a couple minutes to recover from seeing that.

not including ships that i find gross (master/padawan ships, rexoka, any clone/clone ship, stuff like that), i cannot stand a lot of obitine shippers. i’m sorry but imsome of y’all are so annoying satine is such a bland character but y’all worship the ground she walks on. and they characterize obi wan in such a fairytale, pride and prejudice way that i do not care for. i’m sure it’s not the case for everyone but it comes across as self insert trying desperately hard not to seem like self insert. if you want to fuck obi wan just say it don’t hide behind the duchess

I hate to admit it that I’m really struggling with aging but whenever I see an edited pic of P (thankfully it’s rare) I’m so annoyed and think he looks so much better as he really is! And it makes me feel a little better about my own aging bc if he’s so much more attractive with lines and texture and a lil sign of sun, I can be too 🙌🏻

I hear you!! I’m also not loving some things about aging and I think it takes a bit of work to actively counter the cavalcade of anti-aging messaging we get from society. Like it is hard enough to just be a human person in this world. Can’t we try to let people be authentically themselves? Can’t we recognize the beauty in those age lines instead of pretending they’re not there and pretending the fake image is somehow an improvement on nature? 😤

A RANT WARNING!!! KIND OF SUGGESTION THROWN INTO THE WIND BC THEY'LL NEVER READ THIS

I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like we could benefit from another ExU Calamity shaped hiatus to the main campaign.

I'll say the episodes around it were some of my favorites (the whole hellcatch valley arc plus Yu) and they picked it up with an air of freshness after the whole intensity from Calamity.

Candela happens in parallel and it has the bit of pressure of introducing/marketing the system so idk if it's really something to loosen up the players (not saying I don't enjoy it tho).

I'm thinking something in-universe but different characters without the pressure of a long story yet not too brief like a one-shot, exploring past lore that may or may not become relevant later on.

I just feel, and this might be just a me thing, like some aspects have begun growing heavy and repetitive. The personal arcs like scratched cds, fcg and imogen and orym feel a bit washed in sauce, so much of the same VM characters, everyone so down and hopeless even though we're about to reach a peak in the narrative. There's so many cool characters and places from this campaign to go back to and we just never do.

And a pause might let Matt and the players rest and look at the bigger picture/arc, and might allow some of those repetitive squabbles cool down into more interesting perspectives.

#all that being said #i did enjoy the last episode. feywild broke the stillness. ashton breaking was a great break in the monotony #same with when the party split after the malleus key #but the last few since they rejoined have been a drag for me #I've been skipping a few episodes knowing just the gist of it bc doesn't feel like anything's happening #the VM characters are nice but like... where are the actual fun kids? #and it's an enhanced experience if you have a nostalgia for all those place in c1 #i personally don't so you can imagine my experience #i just think they could benefit from it idk just my two cents #I'd love to revisit the crown keepers. or maybe pay Aeor a visit in its prime way before calamity #the emancipation of the aeormatons would be fun. maybe something with dragons. maybe primitive exandria #idk matt probably has a billion brilliant ideas and people he'd love to have play with the world #critical role #cw rant #cr stuff #bells hells

quick intermission for another fantasy property —

i'm rewatching the peter jackson lotr trilogy, my favorite movies of all time, and till this day the costumes, hair, cgi, and production design hold up. in fact, the trilogy's verisimilitude far outweighs amazon's, despite the latter's billion dollar advantage. i've heard qualms (which i agree with) about the storytelling, narrative, and pacing from different reviewers, but most have been saying "at least it's beautiful!" ...um, anyone else feel like the cgi looks...obviously like cgi? if a movie from 20 years ago feels more realistic, you're doing it wrong.

(disclaimer: i thought the second episode was better than the first, and i'm enjoying the show enough to continue, so i have hope! but it does break my lotr heart a bit to see the world that meant so much to me growing up thrown into what feels like the mcu green screen machine)

What if I told you Tom's want to have a baby with shiv in season 3 is him trying to recreate his relationship with Greg within his home

I think tom was able to except the death of his job due to him being able separate his work life and his home life, something none of the Roy's are able to separate obv. Waystar royco is a family run business and the Roy's are a business run family. I think this contrast is well illustrated when tomshiv are going over the prenup and we see Tom's phone call w his mom. His tone is very casual when wishing her a happy Thanksgiving but when she switches to talking about the prenup his tone is more serious. Then, when talking to shiv about the call he refers to her as his lawyer and shiv says something like, "u mean ur mom." Tom leaves behind his family relationship w his mom when she is working with him, a line shiv (or any of the roy siblings) never draw. While working for waystar she never referrers to Logan as her boss, she always simply calls him dad.

Then in season 3 tom knows his job life to be dead, talking of his cancer of the career and calling himself terminal tom. He knew he had failed said life and wanted to find fulfillment in his home life that he still had ahead of him. I was watching/reading some interviews w Matthew Macfadyen recently and they got me thinking about how he says tom views himself as sort of a mentor/almost a father figure towards greg. Tom's relationship w greg is messy and so many things at once, but, I think tom found fulfillment in being able to be greg's work dad in some weird fucking way.

Also, the scene where tom talks about getting shiv pregnant for the duration of his prison sentence then coming back home to a baby makes it very clear to me that his want to have a child isn't coming from love for shiv. He quite literally doesn't want to be there for her, but, just for the child. Oml I could continue ranting about how shivs feelings towards her own femininity and sexuality play into the hypothetical tomshiv child but I feel like I should shut the fuck up maybe.

But but but, I just think it's so insane that tom saw the death of his work life quickly approaching him, and with this came the death of his and gregs work relationship. So, tom tried to recreate part of that relationship by getting shiv pregnant. Tom wambsgans wtf is wrong with u why is he like that.

the PGA also nominated knives out and the academy awards promptly did not, and knives out was more of a sensation than glass onion, which also was a netflix release. that kind of movie can gain traction if it is theatrical only with a normal dvd then streaming release schedule, but not if it’s a streaming film specifically. especially not netflix; the academy hates netflix specifically and avoids rewarding its films with the top prize, even when they cannot avoid nominating its films (roma, power of the dog, etc). the odds of the academy awards giving a top nod to a superhero franchise sequel are also slim, though i do think this may be the year angela bassett finally gets her oscar. it sucks she’s getting it for this, but i’m glad to see older women finally getting in consideration for career awards. top gun and avatar are the kind of blockbusters that the academy frankly misses dearly. i think they will recognize them for that

and again, i don’t think the whale will much at all this awards season, though it will certainly be recognized.
