keep thinking about this fic over and over in my head so putting it up. little bit of just having fun, little bit of projection, little bit of headcanons Featuring leif and vi and my love of their interactions. human fables au because I was specifically thinking about them and hair.
.
Vi would never, ever admit it out loud (not after she’d fought tooth and nail for a shift, against Kabbu’s protests that she was “still growing” and whatever, and still only been allowed half of one, always at the beginning of the night), but keeping watch was boring. It had hardly been any time at all and she was already halfway towards clawing at the walls of the little recess they’d camped out in. And it wasn’t going to get much better because nothing ever happened.
So she was experimenting with her beemerang (the new feature was great, but ooh, once she got that new password she was going to have words with Shades). Right now it was trying to get a feel for stopping it midair when she tossed it up.
The bonus of doing that now was that no one else was there to see when she messed up. Especially the time she got smacked in the face and hissed a word that would have made Kabbu gasp.
She’d just recovered from that enough to start looking for where her beemerang had fallen when she heard a shuffling in the direction of the camp.
Energy surging, she dashed over, only to find it was only Leif turning over in their sleeping bag. She groaned. “Figures.”
But when she finally found the beemerang (in some tall grass) and got back to her original lookout spot, Leif was tossing around more, mumbling something in their sleep. Which was none of her business. And she would have kept on ignoring it until they stopped or her shift was over, but the noise was starting to get on her nerves, quiet enough you couldn’t really hear it, but loud enough you knew it was there.
So she got up and walked to stand over Leif. She watched them for another minute in case they decided to pick just then to stop.
No such luck. With a heavy sigh, Vi prodded them in the side with her foot.
Vi couldn’t say exactly what happened in the ensuing moments, except that there was some yelling and flailing on both their ends, ending with her on the ground with both legs frozen (one just past the knee, the other almost to the hip) and Leif crouched forward as well they could while still in the sleeping bag, another spell dancing on their fingertips.
Their mutual staredown was broken by a soft noise they both immediately looked toward. Kabbu shifted, sleepily mumbled something, and then settled back to sleep.
Leif gave an extended, heavy sigh, and curled up into themself.
“You’re welcome,” Vi grumbled, scrabbling around for a rock to start chipping away at the ice.
They didn’t react until the first sharp crack, whereupon they stared for a second before moving over and starting on her other leg.
“This would be a lot easier if you could actually control the ice once you make it.” She’d said it for the sake of saying it, no real heat behind it – she still meant it as much as the first time, during a practice incident, but wasn’t feeling it the same. Still, she’d expected them to snip back with something (last time, xe’d replied that when xe found the source of xyr powers, xe would bring that up).
So when they didn’t respond at all, she knew something was wrong. Ugh. “Do you need to- to talk about it, or whatever?”
They just made a noncommittal noise, so she slapped their arm.
The ambient temperature dropped as they glared at her. “What was that for?”
“I’m trying to help, and you’re...I don’t know, but you’re not paying attention!” She tried to yank her foot the rest of the way out, only to slam her ankle against a piece of it. “Get me out of here so I can wake Kabbu up.”
“That’s not…” They hesitated. “We don’t need to bother him about this.” They combed a hand through their hair. “Just...a bad dream, less than pleasant memories.”
When she was free, Vi walked unsteadily to a rock high enough for her to sit and kick her legs out, sticking her hands under her arms to warm them.
After a few minutes, she noticed that while Leif had gotten back into their sleeping bag, they were sitting up against the wall, both hands playing with their hair. She would give one more effort, and then they were on their own. “You should probably go back to sleep.”
They sighed. “At the moment, it would only become a repeat of our previous state, which we’re not exactly interested in.”
“...Okay.” She turned back to the lot of nothing happening outside their camp.
The back of her neck prickled, and though she tried to ignore it, eventually she had to turn and face Leif’s watching her. “What?”
They looked down. “May we ask a favor?”
“Depends on what it is.”
“Would you do our hair for us?”
“What?...Why?” They couldn’t do it themself? It looked fine, anyway.
“We used to ask M-” Leif froze, going quiet for a long time before saying, hoarsely, “We find it soothing.”
She stared at them.
“You don’t have to if you don’t-”
“No, that’s- I just- ...soothing?” As a child, she’d thrown fits when anyone so much as adjusted flyaways. Even as she grew up, haircuts had been an ordeal of tensing her whole body to stay still and hold in a scream while she endured the sensation.
“Yes?”
Weird, but whatever, she guessed. “Bring my sleeping bag over with you.”
She folded it over into a cushion on the ground as Leif sat in front of her. Taking the brush, she started.
Barely any time after, they reached back and stopped her. “Is that really how you brush your hair?”
“Uh, yeah?” She just did whatever to make sure it looked decent and didn’t have knots.
They sighed. “Try like this.”
She copied as best she could, and they didn’t correct her, so it must be okay at least. Even at a glance, it was impossible to miss how much hair Leif had, going almost all the way down their back, but seeing was still different from handling it. For one, it wasn’t as heavy as she’d expected, from her own thick hair as baseline. But still, even without any snarls or anything to work out, it took a while to brush the whole of it.
She definitely took it slower than needed, but it was something to do, and much more tolerable on this end. Besides, once she’d started properly, Leif had relaxed dramatically.
When she did finish, they stayed still for a little longer, took a slow, deep breath, and said, “Thank you.”
Vi shrugged, then remembered they couldn’t see her. “Sure.”
Another soft lull.
“Would it be too much to assume you know how to braid?”
She huffed. She’d never really done one, but how hard could it be?
...Apparently quite a bit, she realized after a while. She knew it was three pieces, and then you wrapped them around each other, so she’d gotten that far. But then she’d started to think it was too loose, and then she’d tried a different pattern, and somewhere in there she ended up with a fourth section of hair. Now she was just trying to undo the whole thing and failing spectacularly at even that.
Her tugs must have gotten rougher, because Leif turned to look over their shoulder. “What are you doing?”
With a groan, she flopped onto the ground. “I don’t actually know how to braid, okay?”
They pulled their hair to the front so they could see it better and burst out laughing.
“Shut up!” Pressing her hands over her eyes, she kicked at them. “It’s not that bad!”
“No, it’s worse,” they gasped. “We don’t think we could do this if we tried.”
“Fight me.”
“We’ll pass.”
She kicked them again, although not as hard.
When Vi finally sat up, they’d worked out the worst of it. “Do you want to learn how to actually braid?”
“You’re just offering so you can bother me into doing it for you later.”
They shrugged, smirking.
“Yeah. Teach me.”
---
Leif rolled out of the inn bed and stumbled through the dark toward the bathroom. Groggily, she noted the faint light under the closed door. As she raised a hand to knock, she heard a litany of muttered curses, clearly in Vi’s voice.
She knocked.
A yelp, the sound of something falling. “What?”
Resting his head against the door with a clunk, Leif said, “Does your crisis require you to stay in there?”
“Wha- I’m not- Back off and mind your own business!”
“We would but we have to pee.”
“Ugh!” A lot of shuffling and a couple more curses later, Vi opened the door, a towel draped over her head and shoulders, and shoved past him.
When he was done, he found her sitting on the edge of her bed, pulling the towel tight around her head as she stared at the door. As soon as he opened it, she tried to dash back in.
But Leif stayed in the doorway, blocking her. “What did you do to your hair?”
“Nothing.” She ducked down to crawl between her legs.
He let Vi, and used the opportunity to yank the towel off her head.
Barely stifling a shriek, she tried to shove him back into the bedroom.
But he just dropped his weight, leaning against her. When she stumbled back, he pulled the door closed behind them.
She’d hastily replaced the towel, and was glaring up at him.
Yeah, she didn’t want to do this either, but something was up, and she couldn’t tell if it was Vi’s natural stubborn reticence about even tiny stuff, or an actual issue. “We can do this the easy way and you talk to me, or the hard way, where I go wake Kabbu up.”
Somehow her glare managed to intensify even more. As they stared each other down, Leif noticed her eyes were red, skin around them a little blotchy.
After long enough that she was about to go for Kabbu, Vi spoke up. “I was cutting my hair and I messed up a little, and I didn’t want you to see because it looks stupid and you’d be joking about it for the next month.” Crossing her arms, she huffed. “There. Now get out.”
A whole month? No, that wasn’t the important part right now. “Why were you cutting your hair in the middle of the night?”
“Hey! I’ve been cutting my own hair since-” She stiffened, then went back to even more shouty. “for a while now. I know what I’m doing!”
The rhetort ‘and yet you managed to mess up on it’ came so easily it almost flowed right from his brain to his tongue before he even knew it had formed. But he stopped himself. That was only going to put her on more of a defensive. “We didn’t mean it like that. Why now?”
Vi narrowed her eyes, but responded. “It was getting long, and I didn’t have the chance to do it the past couple days with camping out, and then we said about getting an early start, so I wanted to get it done while I had a chance.” As she spoke, she became increasingly worked up, until she was flailing her arms as she added, “Why do you even care?”
Because she was his friend. Maybe not to the most common meaning, and certainly not as mushy as Kabbu meant it when he said it, but. She’d stuck with them when it really counted, and despite all of her other talk of seeking a reward for the slightest help, hadn’t spoken a word like that when he’d made his request or since. She’d been supportive, comforting even over the past few days as he processed the revelations about...about his family.
And over the past few days, he and Kabbu had watched her become more withdrawn and irritable the closer they got to the Bee Kingdom. It didn’t seem likely to be a coincidence this was happening the night they’d arrived on the outskirts. She was his friend, and he was going to help her whether she liked it or not.
She leaned back against the door. “First of all, we’re extremely nosy. And, despite everything, we do give a shit about you.” The curse got the tiniest huff of amusement out of Vi. Kabbu still had a thing about watching their language around her, but the way Leif figured it, she was seventeen and had been on her own for who knew how long, interacting with some...questionable figures (if this “Shades” she’d mentioned but refused to elaborate on was anything like they seemed). Besides, she wasn’t using anything she hadn’t already heard Vi use.
Vi didn’t snap about it, but neither did she say anything else even after a bit of time.
“Do you feel confident fixing your hair on your own?”
“I’m not going to a hair place,” Vi spat.
So, no. “Well, we’re not going to let you embarrass us by going out looking like a disaster, so something has to get done about it.” Softening minutely, he added, “We also have some experience with this. If you let us help, we promise not to tease you about how it looks.”
She eyed him, then finally yanked the towel off, throwing it in his face.
Her hair was bad. Before, it had been halfway between her chin and shoulders, a single unstyled length, often teetering on the edge of acceptably neat. Now...it varied in length from hardly any shorter in bits of the back to a section in the front left side that was maybe a couple inches, the rest with no pattern to it.
There was really only one way for that to have happened, and thinking about it made Leif want to throw her scissors out the window, wrap her in a blanket until she couldn’t move, and sandwich her between himself and Kabbu until she told them what was going on. The ferocity of it scared him a little.
Instead, Leif sat on the floor, sighing dramatically and putting her head in her hands to disguise any outward reaction she might have had and to give herself a moment to calm down and think about what to actually do. “...What were you attempting to get it to look like?”
Vi gave her a look that said she was at least a fraction as on to her as she was Vi. “At first I was just gonna make it shorter, like usual.” She made a motion at about the height of her earlobe. “But I remembered I don’t actually like how that looks…” she ducked her head “or feels, either. I just wanted it to be shorter, now, and…” She didn’t move for almost a minute before she whispered, “I don’t know.”
Cautiously, Leif scooted around until she was next to Vi, brushing shoulders. “How short would make you happy with it?”
She stared at him, razor-sharp. “Are you fucking with me?”
“No?”
“What if I said I wanted to shave my head?” Still glaring.
Leif shrugged. “It’s your hair, although I’d insist you let someone else do it this time. Do you?”
Her eyes went wide. Then, she abruptly turned her head away. “...No. But I know I want most of this” she grabbed a handful of hair and tugged on it “gone.”
“But not an exact style?”
She shook her head.
Leif thought for a moment. “How much creative liberty do you trust us with?”
In response, she turned just enough to narrow her eyes at him.
“If you really hate it, we’ll buy you lunch for three days.”
“A week.”
“...Fine.” She got up, stepping towards the door. “Don’t do anything else to it until we come back.”
“What? Where are you going?”
She leaned on the doorknob. “Are we correct in assuming you don’t have hair clippers?”
“Uh, yeah.”
“Then we’re going to that all-hours store and hoping they have some, or we’ll have to change our plans or wait until morning.”
They did, fortunately, and she got back in something like a reasonable amount of time. From there, she dragged the desk chair into the bathroom in front of the sink and sat Vi down in it.
As she was getting things set up, Vi handed her a pair of regular scissors.
“What?” Her mind went blank, thrown.
“You still gotta cut it down the regular way first, right?”
“Yes, but-” Horror dawned. “You’ve been using these to cut your hair?”
“What else would I use?”
“Hair scissors?!”
She stared at him through the mirror. “That’s a thing?”
Leif sat down for a minute. When he’d settled, he put away Vi’s scissors and took out the ones from the set.
He started by assessing the damage. Fortunately, there wasn’t much he’d actually have to work around, given the dramatic length change. But as he was pinning a section, he realized something and paused. “What’s the matter? Is something pulling too hard?”
“No. It’s fine.” Vi was tensed as if in pain, eyes squeezed shut. “Just. Keep going.”
Then Leif remembered her reaction to them asking her to do their hair a few days ago. Ah. “Here.” He forced the scissors into her hand. “Shorter hairstyles mean cutting more often, and we don’t want to get stuck doing it for you every single time. So we’re going to show you.”
He did finish the sectioning off, showing her where he was doing it, but then he let her loose with the scissors on the rest. When told she should take it down to about an inch, she went about it with a glee that was infectious.
After that, she got the clippers, explaining how they worked. She did one little section herself so Vi could see, and then put her hand on top of Vi’s to guide, talking her through getting the trickier spots and angles, and where to step so the line between this and the pinned length wouldn’t be jagged.
“How do you know all this stuff anyway?” Vi asked when they’d taken a break (she’d complained about her hand getting numb, and Leif had to agree).
“We did try this, once. It turned out not to be what we wanted, but there was also a point where we had it partially short with the rest long.”
When they finished with the clippers, Leif took out the pins and guided her through scissor-trimming the rest.
Vi had watched the whole process happen, so Leif figured if she had any complaints she would have already voiced them. Loudly. Still, after he’d taken the towel off her shoulders and rubbed a clean side over her head to get rid of more of the loose hairs, he told her to give it a final look-over.
“We picked something where you can use product to style the longer part, but it looks fine if you don’t,” he said as he swept up the hair from the floor as best he could. There was a lot of it, but at least most of it was larger pieces. He was going to have to remember to leave a good tip for the housekeeper. “So you’ll have to let us know if you want to get some. But does it at least look acceptable for now?”
Silence. Leif looked up, and realized she was staring into the mirror, frozen. With a sigh, she tossed the hair in the garbage and stood. “What, did we really do that horrible-”
And then she saw Vi’s expression.
Her eyes were wide, staring at her reflection, mouth ever so slightly open. With both hands, she combed through the ‘longer’ portion on top. A smile, and a single tear ran down her face.
“So it’s good?”
She flinched away from Leif, apparently just remembering she was there. “It’s fine.” She tried to shrug it off, but her voice was far too choked up to manage it. (Not to mention the way her eyes softened as she rubbed at the buzzed portion at the back). One of her breaths caught, and she scowled. “You’re still buying me lunch.”
Leif smirked. “You’re welcome.”

“And this is going to be your desk,” you smiled, excited but keeping your voice down. Sarah made a quiet squeal back at you. “See, I can see you from my desk so you can make faces at me while I’m dealing with the boring accounts people. I’m manifesting it, I swear I am.”
“I’m seriously about to make a fucking moodboard if it’ll help,” she sat on the desk, her legs dangling over the edge. “I miss Austin. I didn’t think I’d miss it this much but I really do. Seattle was way more fun when you were there, now all I do is try to convince myself that my job is totally worth the 500 days of rain we get every year.”
You laughed.
“Something tells me it’s not quite that many.”
“Feels like that many,” she rolled her eyes. “Now please. I need BBQ.”
You shook your head and laughed before heading to the elevators to go to lunch with your best friend.
Joel had texted you a warning with his usual good morning text that day.
“Good morning, Beautiful,” he wrote. “Really miss feeling you right before I fall asleep. Please tell me you’re not busy tomorrow night. Heads up, expect Sarah to drop in on you today. I have to be at a site for a few hours and she mentioned stopping by your office. She’ll probably invite you to the cookout we’re having tonight - up to you if you want to come.”
You frowned when you read it. “Up to you if you want to come.” What the fuck did that mean?
“Miss feeling you too,” you added a heart emoji. “Only plans I have for tomorrow night involve you ripping my clothes off.”
You rapped your nails against your phone, waiting to see if he’d text back before you started getting ready for the day but he didn’t. You sighed. He probably had to be on site early and couldn’t use his phone.
“Goddammit,” you muttered, putting your face in your pillow and groaning. How were you supposed to navigate this?
Did Joel want you to come but was trying to keep the pressure off? Did he not want you anywhere near him when Sarah was in town?
Yes, he’d spent a fair bit of time fucking your brains out over the past few weeks but, in reality, he wasn’t anything to you. He was a guy you’d gone out with once, he wasn’t your boyfriend, he didn’t have to invite you over for anything let alone something that might make him feel uncomfortable because you were friends with his kid. Even though, to you, he felt like so much more than some guy you were fucking. So, so much more.
And also your best friend’s dad.
Because fate was a cruel, cruel thing.
You checked your phone every few minutes as you got ready for work but the messages sat on delivered. You sighed and resisted the urge to text again and just kept checking your phone every few minutes in your office, too.
“Wouldn’t argue with some help in the clothing removal department,” he wrote. “I’m going to want you naked fast. Requesting something with easy access so I can get inside you ASAP.”
You smiled and shook your head a little.
“Still warm enough for a sundress,” you sent a winky face emoji with that and briefly considered going to the bathroom to take a selfie that involved an unprofessional amount of cleavage.
“Jesus Christ,” he sent back. “Pull me in a restroom wearing one of those and we’re not stopping at you humping my leg.”
“Counting on it,” you wrote, smiling a little wider before deciding to just bite the bullet. “Did you want me to go tonight? If Sarah asks?”
“What’s go you smiling so big?”
You almost jumped out of your skin when you saw Sarah leaning against the doorframe to your office.
“Good lord, girl, we gotta put a bell on you,” you smiled anyway, being sure to lock your phone before getting up to hug her. “What are you doing here?”
“My dad had some client issue so I figure I’d come visit my bestie,” she gave you a squeeze before stepping back from you. “Plus I’m dying to see where I’m going to commute to every day once they finally let me come here.”
Sarah picked the restaurant, a BBQ place that wasn’t far from your office and only offered wooden picnic tables sitting under a rusted metal awning for seating.
“Oh this is going to be good shit,” you said, taking a deep breath, the smell of smoked meat heavy on the air. “I can tell.”
“Knew you’d love this place,” she smiled. “Kind of surprised my dad hasn’t taken you here already, actually.”
You froze for half a second before regaining your composure.
“We’ve only gone out the one time since the first time we met up,” you shrugged. “Can’t exactly show me the entire city in that time.”
The two of you got in line, the place starting to get crowded now that it was pushing noon.
“I know,” she rolled her eyes. “I just really thought you guys would hit it off I guess.”
Well you’d definitely done that.
“Does it really bother you that I’m not hitting the town with your dad more?” You asked, teasing.
“Kind of, actually,” she laughed. “You know those stupid TV episodes they do where the cast of one show goes on another show?”
“The crossover ones?” You frowned.”
“Right,” she nodded. The line moved and the two of you stepped forward. “This was like… my real life crossover episode and it just kinda flopped. Like my two favorite characters finally were in the same place and just didn’t have the chemistry for good TV.”
Yeah, chemistry? Not your issue with Joel.
“I’ll be sure to lodge your complaint with the writers,” you said dryly. “Tell them to get their shit together.”
You talked Sarah into ordering the meats you didn’t so you could try at least a bite of everything and you were almost uncomfortably full when you dropped your final wet napkin on the butcher paper covered tray in front of you.
“Oh, hey, meant to ask you before,” she said, polishing off her Dr. Pepper. “Did you have any plans tonight? My dad caved and is grilling out. My Uncle Tommy is coming over, his wife Maria, a few neighbors who have known me since I was in diapers and who can tell you every embarrassing thing I’ve ever done…”
“I don’t think they can tell me about the time you got drunk at karaoke night and tried to take the mic from that guy who was making an ass of himself,” you smirked.
Sarah groaned, throwing her head back and laughing.
“Oh my God, I forgot about that!”
You laughed, too, and took a second to check your phone to see if Joel had gotten back to you.
He had.
“Love for you to come,” he wrote. “Just going to be hell keeping my hands to myself all night. But would rather do that than not see you.”
You smiled a little and put your phone down.
“Yeah, I’ll come,” you said. “Just tell me what I can bring.”
You were almost giddy by the time you got home. It’s not like you’d seen Joel every day since you’d met him but the option always felt like it was there. You’d only texted a bit since the phone sex Sunday and it felt like it had been eons since you’d gotten to touch him. You wondered if it would be weird if you gave him a hug when Sarah was there. You could get away with a hug, right?
You pulled out a few outfit options, trying to find something that would make Joel want to check you out but not look like you were trying to get him to check you out. You pulled the shirts out and hung them on your floor length mirror so they were next to each other when you got an idea.
You stripped out of your work clothes and changed into your favorite matching bra and panty set, standing in front of the mirror with the shirts still hanging on it, arranging yourself so you could see your body between the clothes. You took a picture.
“Which shirt for tonight?” You typed, sending the picture to Joel.
He responded while you were jumping into your jeans, the denim tight on your thighs and hips.
“You’re cruel, you know that right?” He wrote. “I vote green. Feel like you’ll cause less trouble in the green.”
The green was a little tamer, you supposed. The v-neck wasn’t quite as low, the eyelet lace softer and almost girlish. You smiled a little.
“You’re right,” you wrote back. “Black it is.”
Black was a wrap top, with a deeper v-neck, something that would highlight your curves even more. And give Joel easy access.
“You’re a menace,” he texted.
“I know :)”
You got dressed and stopped by HEB on your way over, picking up a dozen bottles of Shiner. You’d had to consciously toe the line of trying without trying too hard and you stomach was in knots as you walked up to his front door. What if your hair or your makeup or your shoes or the tightness of your jeans screamed “I’m fucking the man who lives in this house”?
But you took a deep breath and rang the doorbell anyway. It didn’t take long for it Sarah to rip it open with a squeal, pulling you inside.
“I’m so glad you came!” She said, jumping a little as she pulled away from you. “This is going to be so much fun, I promise. See, we’re going to do shit like this all the time when I move down here. We gotta manifest it, girl, I’m telling you. It’s even more fun when it’s summer and people want to swim because getting drunk in a pool that’s not open to every other idiot in your apartment complex is seriously the best pass time.”
“I can only imagine,” you smiled. “And, I brought beer!”
You held up the six packs just as Joel went rushing past, on his way to the kitchen. But he doubled back and stopped, a slow smile spreading across his face as he looked you up and down from over Sarah’s shoulder. You smirked just a little and he shook his head slightly, smiling.
“Good to see you,” he said, stepping around Sarah for a somewhat awkward hug. He lowered his voice, his lips next to your ear, speaking so softly you could barely hear him. “Menace.”
He stepped back and you smiled wider.
“Good to see you, too.”
Joel took the beers from your hands and his eyes lingered a little too long on your chest - not that you were arguing.
“Come on,” Sarah slipped her hand into yours. “I want you to meet everybody!”
She tugged you along behind her to the backyard, you giving Joel an apologetic smirk over your shoulder, people standing in little clusters around the pool. You spotted Joel’s brother immediately, the resemblance hard to miss. He was standing next to a beautiful woman with braids half way down her back, his arm around her waist. You smiled a little. You remembered dropping Sarah off at the airport when she flew down the year before for her uncle’s wedding.
“Have fun!” You said, putting her duffle bag on her shoulder as your car sat with the emergency flashers on in the loading zone.
“Yeah, this is going to be a disaster,” she said. “There’s no way they’re making it down the aisle. I haven’t met Maria but it’s Tommy. He’s jumped from woman to woman since before I was born, the day he settles down is the day hell freezes over.”
When you picked her up again three days later, she had a different story.
“So did they actually get hitched?” You asked as she flopped heavily into the passenger seat.
“Holy shit, they did. She is the only woman on the planet who could actually get him to settle down,” she said. “And by some miracle, she wanted to. No accounting for taste with some people…”
You laughed and headed to your favorite bar to hear all about it. You hadn’t really expected to ever really meet him except maybe in passing at Sarah’s wedding one day. Now you were meeting him in your - boyfriend’s? Fuck buddy’s? Who knows what’s? - backyard.
“Tommy, Maria!” Sarah called as the two of you worked your way around the pool. “Got someone for you to meet, she’s new in town and in desperate need of social contacts.”
She made the introductions and Tommy laughed when he heard your name.
“The infamous best friend,” he smiled, pulling you in for a hug. “She as bad an influence on you as she was on me?”
“Oh shut up,” she rolled her eyes.
“She talked me into grand larceny once,” Tommy said, pointing accusingly at Sarah with the beer bottle in his hand.
“Did she now?” You asked, brows raised.
“Oh yes,” he nodded, smiling cheekily. “She was seven and Joel said she couldn’t have all her Halloween candy on Halloween…”
“A crime, really,” she smiled, grabbing Tommy’s beer and taking a drink before giving it back.
“And she was so cute, these big eyes and her little princess costume and her hair going in about a million different directions…”
“Yeah, Dad hadn’t figured out how to handle that yet,” she laughed a little.
“I caved,” Tommy said. “I put up a valiant fight…”
“You said yes immediately!” Sarah scoffed. “I barely even had to pout…”
“She was a monster,” Tommy cut her off. “I was at her mercy, I swear!”
“And then what happened?” Joel asked, joining your little circle with two beers in hand. He wordlessly pressed one into your palm. You smiled a little at him and he brushed his hand down your spine on his way to putting it in his back pocket. “C’mon, you two partners in crime, finish that story. What happened?”
“Nothing that bad,” Tommy waved him off.
“Yeah, it was fine,” Sarah said. “No lasting damage…”
“For you two maybe,” Joel laughed. “I was the one who was up until 3 in the morning washing all her bedding and scrubbin’ the wall of her room because she projectile vomited three pounds of candy like she was starring in the damn Exorcist.”
You laughed as Sarah and Tommy both tried to downplay it and Maria just lovingly patted her husband’s shoulder, rolling her eyes. While everyone was distracted, you snuck a look at Joel. Just a second to actually look at his face as he laughed and smiled with his family. It was a little unfair, how good looking he was. Somehow both rugged and soft, handsome and beautiful and you had to resist the urge to reach up and twist your fingers in his slightly unruly curls. You looked back at Sarah before anyone said anything and took a sip of beer.
Sarah got sidetracked talking with Tommy and you took advantage of it, leaning in to whisper in Joel’s ear.
“You’re really hot,” you said quietly. “Also, I got you a present, it’s in my purse.”
“Oh really?” He raised his eyebrows, a devious look on his face.
You rolled your eyes.
“Not that exciting,” you said.
“What are you two conspiring about?” Maria asked and you almost flinched as Tommy and Sarah turned their attention to you.
“Just how to get this one to stop meddlin’,” Joel said smoothly, nodding to his daughter.
“I do not meddle,” she replied. “I just nudge people in the right direction. Because I’m smarter than them.”
You got along well with Joel’s brother and sister-in-law. Tommy seemed more like a big brother to Sarah than an uncle, which made sense when they talked about her childhood years. Tommy was six years younger than Joel, just 16 when Sarah came into the world. So while he adored his niece, he wasn’t exactly mature enough to be a parent-like figure. It sounded like he’d helped his brother out a lot but had been more of a friend to Sarah than anything else.
You liked watching her and Joel with their friends and family, the easy familiarity of it all, the comfort of having history with people. It was something that was missing from your life.
Sure, you liked your life. You liked it quite a bit, actually. You had a job you enjoyed that paid you good money, you’d lived in some interesting places - Seattle, three years in New York City, an internship in Chicago, even Washington D.C. for a bit - and you could do just about whatever you wanted whenever you wanted. That was the beauty of not having anything to tie you down. The cost just meant not having roots and, sometimes, that hurt.
Joel disappeared inside at one point and, after taking quick stock of the backyard to make sure no one else was inside with him, you followed. You slipped into the entry and grabbed your purse, pulling out the bag of Fire Sour Patch Kids you’d seen in the candy aisle on your way to grab beer when you stopped at the store earlier that day.
Joel was in the kitchen cutting vegetables for burger toppings and you climbed on the counter next to the cutting board. He looked up at you out of the corner of his eye, trying to hide his smile while he shook his head.
“Meant what I said about you bein’ a menace,” he said, his eyes on the knife. “You’re torture. Beautiful torture but torture.”
“We aim to please,” you smiled, holding out the candy. He frowned for a second, drying his hands on his jeans, before he laughed and took the bag. “Warned you it wasn’t exciting…”
“This is great, Beautiful,” he leaned in and kissed you lightly, like it was an automatic thing, as though you did this in his kitchen all the time. “Been wantin’ to try these and then I never buy the damn things….”
“I’ll help you eat them if they suck,” you smiled. “And you can help me eat them if they don’t.”
He smiled again and moved in front of you, nudging your legs apart so he was standing between your thighs  and he leaned in and kissed you - really kissed you. His tongue dipped into your mouth, his hands sliding up your legs to your waist as he tugged you closer. You draped your arms over his shoulders and pressed yourself against him and savored his touch. Fuck, you’d missed this. It had only been a few days but it felt like an eternity of him being out of reach and it was almost reassuring to feel the way his hands fit against your body even after some time apart.
“Fuck, you’re trouble,” he was breathless when he pulled away from you, his hands still on your body. “Just couldn’t wear the green, could ya?”
“And miss out on this?” You teased, running your fingers through his hair. “Never.”
Sarah sat between the two of you at dinner, the best spot for you and Joel to be in when you thought about it. Next to you was too much temptation, you’d end up touching each other and then not be able to help yourselves and that was bad.
Across wasn’t great, either, as you’d discovered at dinner the other night. If you could just check each other out the whole night, that wasn’t the safe way to go. Not to mention the opportunities for playing footsie under the table.
No no, you needed a better way to keep your hands to yourselves and Sarah was a great barrier for that - both literally and metaphorically - and you managed to get through the meal without any big slip ups. Something you were pretty damn proud of, if you did say so yourself.
You excused yourself to the bathroom as things were in that easy after dinner conversation stage of the evening, everyone pleasantly full and a little drunk, Sarah laughing with a neighbor from down the street whose name you’d forgotten. But when you opened the bathroom door to head back outside, Joel was there, pushing you back into the room and closing the door behind him.
“Joel!” You hissed, his hands on your waist.
“You really can’t expect me to wait when you show up lookin’ this damn good,” he growled, boosting you up so you were perched on the edge of the sink. “Everyone’s too busy to even notice we’re gone…”
His mouth found your neck and your chest as he untied your top, his tongue and teeth ranging over your skin and you couldn’t help but moan at his attention, your body already feeling warm and wanting. Joel stepped back from you a he fully opened your shirt, revealing your body to him as though it were some wondrous thing, moaning as he did.
“Fuck Beautiful,” his hands trailed up your exposed skin to cup your breasts through your bra. “Ain’t fair how one person can look this damn good…”
“Had to pull you away from the grill somehow,” you smiled, tugging him back against you and kissing him. He kissed you back, getting more and more desperate as he did. He pulled your breasts free of their cups so he could suck at them and hold them in his large hands, moaning into you. Your hands ran down his body to find his cock hard in his jeans, feeling him through the fabric, desperately wishing you could just rip all his clothes off and get him inside you.
“Think you can come from just your clit?” He asked, breathless, as he licked and sucked your neck.
“Yes,” you moaned. “Think you can come from just my hand?”
“It’d take less than that,” he panted as he opened your jeans and slid his hand inside as best he could, his finger finding your clit quickly. He ghosted over it with his finger, making you squirm and moan. “Fuck, Beautiful, you close already?”
“Maybe,” you panted as he pressed a little harder against the sensitive nub. You reached down to pull out his cock to start jerking him off but he caught your hand. You whined a little.
“Not yet,” he kissed back up to your mouth, holding his lips a fraction of an inch away from yours. “Lemme take care of you…”
He kissed you then, his tongue slipping into you as his finger pressed into your clit. You groaned and rocked your hips on him and you felt him smile against your lips. He started rubbing you in slow, aching circles, adding a little pressure every time around, matching his kiss to the pace of his fingers. You moaned desperately against him and he picked up his pace, working you over until you were gasping into his mouth while you came from his fingers.
“Fuck,” you panted as Joel slipped his hand from your pants. “How are you so goddamn good at that?”
“You’re so pretty when you come it’s easy to remember what does it,” he replied, stepping back from you. You slid off the sink but, instead of fixing your bra and closing your shirt, you dropped to your knees and started unzipping his fly. “Baby…”
“I can be quick,” you said, looking up at him through your eyelashes as you freed his cock. You never really got used to hot big he was - thick, heavy, long. But you’d be fine choking on him if it meant making him come.
You started by licking his head and he let out a shuddering little moan and you smiled a little, lapping at the dripping pre-come at his slit like he was your favorite flavor of ice cream. Which, he kind of was. Heady and masculine and Joel, knowing that he was dripping because of you made you want him even more.
Instead of taking the more gradual route, you took him into your mouth and throat all at once, having to swallow around the head of him as he pushed past your gag reflex. His hand flew to your head, fingers twisting in your hair and sinking into the thin layer of flesh over your skull.
“Oh fuck,” he panted. “Oh my fucking god…..”
You sucked him and moaned, the vibration of your vocal chords working the tip of him as it was lodged in your throat. You pressed your tongue against the thick vein that ran along the underside of him before you started pulling back, his grip on your head relaxing just enough to let you do it. You worked is cock up and down, sucking and licking and taking him into your mouth until you started to cough. He panted and moaned as you worked him until, eventually, he was clinging to the sink to stay upright.
“Fuck, please Baby, I need to come,” he groaned. You smiled as much as you could when your mouth was full of his thick cock. “Lemme… can I…”
You looked up at him, eyes wide, as you slid down him so he was buried in your mouth to the root and you hummed your approval. His hands immediately flew to your head and he started fucking into your mouth. You took it, swallowing past your gag reflex with each deep stroke. He didn’t last long, just a few pumps, before he was spilling into you, moaning quietly as he did. You swallowed it all, his cock so deep in your throat you could barely even taste him as he pumped his come into you.
“Fuck,” he all but collapsed against the sink and you carefully slid his cock from your mouth and got up, wiping your mouth on the back of your wrist. You adjusted your bra and tied your shirt again.
“Worth it?” You teased.
“Jesus Christ woman,” he groaned. “You’re gonna kill me.”
You smiled and kissed his cheek before you went to leave the bathroom but he grabbed your arm, pulling you back against him to kiss you deep and long. You tried to hide your surprise. Other guys you’d been with weren’t huge on kissing you after you went down on them. Joel didn’t seem to mind. But then, Joel just wasn’t like other men. You smiled as you pulled back from him and he laughed a little.
“What?” You frowned.
“We made a mess of your makeup,” he jerked his head toward the mirror, tucking his cock back in his pants as you checked your reflection. Your lipstick had smeared and you laughed a little, too.
“Good thing I have more in my bag,” you said, grabbing a sheet of toilet paper and cleaning up what you could. “See you back out there?”
“Once I remember how to walk again,” he teased.
It was sheer luck that Maria came in to use the bathroom as you adjusted your lipstick in the entryway mirror and not a few minutes earlier and you popped a breath mint so you could think about something besides the fact that the last thing in your mouth had been Joel’s cock when you talked with Sarah.
You left only about an hour later, giving Sarah a long hug as she walked you to your car.
“I’ll be back again soon for Thanksgiving,” she smiled, squeezing you tight. “Just manifest with me!”
“I’m manifesting so hard I might break something,” you smiled back, trying to ignore the knot of guilt in your stomach about hiding something so big from her.
“And seriously,” she said, stepping back from you. “If you need a friend before I get down here…”
“Call the whole Miller clan,” you smiled. “I got it.”
“Good,” she said. “We’ll just make a Miller out of you yet.”
You tried to ignore how your heart skipped a beat at the thought of that.
“Sounds good to me.”
Joel came straight to your place after dropping Sarah off at the airport the next night. You answered the door in a sundress - as promised - expecting to go to dinner.
Which, in hindsight, was foolish.
“Fuck,” you said, looking Joel up and down. He had flowers. He was in a plain, dark t-shirt that was tight around his biceps, his jeans hanging just right on his hips.
“What?” He frowned.
“Just get in here and let me fuck you,” you said, grabbing his shirt and pulling him into your apartment.
The flowers were quickly abandoned on the breakfast bar in your kitchen as you kissed him, tugging his shirt off and casting it aside before you dragged him to the bedroom.
“We gotta eat at some point tonight, Baby,” he said between kisses as you shoved him down on the bed.
“That’s fine,” you panted, stepping out of your panties and casting them aside. “We can do this twice.”
“Fuck, you’re fucking perfect,” he said, lifting his hips so he could slide his pants down a little and sitting so his back was against your headboard. He started working his cock, already hard in the palm of his hand. You straddled him, the skirt of your dress hiding your dripping pussy and his leaking cock from view. He kept one hand on his cock but the other went to your hips as you lowered yourself toward him until your pussy brushed his thick head. “Oh shit, fuck Beautiful, I need… Fuck, need inside you, I need to be inside you…”
“I know,” you breathed before sinking onto his cock with a shaking moan. His other hand flew to your waist, too, pulling you down on him so his whole length was sheathed within you. You panted for breath as your body adjusted to the intrusion. “I need you, too.”
“Fuck,” his head fell back against the headboard. “Fuck, you feel so fucking good every time, s’like I belong in this pussy, like your pussy was made to take this cock.”
“Made to ride this cock,” you moaned, starting to rise and fall over him with a satisfied groan. Joel somehow hit all the right angles inside you, the thickness of his shaft stretching you deliciously, his head finding the sensitive place deep inside you and pressing against it, making your pussy start to tighten around him.
“Oh shit,” his grip on you got firmer, his fingers sinking into the soft flesh of you. “Want you to come on this cock, Beautiful. Want you to use me to get yourself off, fuck, Baby, make yourself come on my cock…”
You buried your face in his neck and breathed in his deep, clean, masculine scent and started riding him harder, adjusting your hips so your clit was leaving an obscene, messy streak of your slick up and down his bare stomach. You licked and sucked at his neck as you rode him, fucking down on him hard and fast and grinding your clit against him. As your body tightened, you sat up straighter, pressing your forehead to his own so you could see his face, the liquid heat in you centering around where he was inside you until you came with a desperate moan around him.
“There we go,” he almost sounded like he was in pain he was so desperate. “Fuck, you come so fuckin’ pretty Baby, so goddamn pretty. Feel so good, coming on my cock, better than anything else, fuck Beautiful, I can’t…”
Joel took control of your hips then, pumping you up and down his shaft and you tried to help as best you could as you rode out your orgasm. His hips fucked up into you hard and fast until he was emptying himself into you, moaning as he did.
You collapsed on top of him, panting for breath and he went from holding your hips to wrapping his arms around you, holding you close to him. You stayed like that for a few minutes, your breaths synchronizing as you both came back down from our highs.
“So,” you said, breathing not quite back to normal yet. “Dinner?”
He laughed.
“Dinner.”
When you fell asleep in Joel’s arms that night, all naked and entwined with him, you were starting to think that you could get used to this. That you wanted to do this all the time, every day. Do all of life’s stupid little things with him, go grocery shopping with him and pay the water bill with him and deal with traffic jams with him.
You just weren’t sure how to talk about that yet.
But that was OK. You were getting there, you could tell.
When Joel kissed you goodbye in the morning, he brushed your hair back from your forehead so he could kiss you there too.
“Leaving already?” You mumbled.
“‘Fraid so,” he said softly. “Need to get an early start at the job site. Can I see you tonight?”
You just hummed in response. He frowned.
“That’s a yes, I hope,” he said. You nodded and you opened your eyes just enough to see him smile broadly. “I’ll text you. Have a good day, Baby.”
“You too,” you mumbled into your pillow.
When you got up an hour later, there was a sticky note on your coffee maker, telling you to check your fridge. Inside was an iced latte from the coffee shop down the street and you smiled so big it was hard to do your makeup as you got ready to go.
You were still on cloud nine when you were getting ready to take a client to lunch that afternoon, doing a last check of your makeup when you got a call from the reception desk downstairs.
“Someone’s here for you,” the receptionist sounded skeptical. “I’m not letting him back without you.”
“No problem,” you laughed. “We’re going off site for lunch, tell him I’ll be down in a minute.”
You went to the lobby, looking for someone who at least vaguely resembled the headshot from your client’s website when you did a double take.
The man sitting on the couch in reception smiled when he saw you and your heart sank into your stomach as he headed for you.
“Hey Angel,” he smiled.
You couldn’t smile back.
“Shit.”

Missing A Corroded Coffin Show
Eddie Munson X Fem!Reader
Yeah i saw this and couldn’t help myself
i also just busted this out on my lunch break and barely proof read it so sorry lmao
TW: 18+, fingering, unprotected sex (wrap it before you tap it), backshots, let me know if i missed anything!!
You’d had a long grueling shift at work full of displeased customers and co-workers not wanting to carry their weight, resulting in you working 3 hours past your scheduled shift. Eddie had a show with Corroded Coffin tonight and while you’d never missed a show before, Eddie could tell how tired you were when you got home and told you he’d be fine if you stayed home.
“Baby look at you, you can barely keep your eyes open.” He pointed out.
“But i’ve never missed a show. I should be there to support you.” You pleaded, near tears either from feeling so guilty or from being dead tired. Probably a bit of both.
“Come here.” He pulled you into his chest, placing a kiss on the top of your head. “You have every other show to come to. We’re not going anywhere. Now go put some comfy clothes on and take a nap. I’ll leave as soon as i can after the show to come cuddle you.” He smiles as he stuffs his guitar in its case.
“God i love you. I’m sorry, i promise i’ll be at the next one.” You tell him, walking him out to his van.
He pulls you in for one last hug, pulling back to give you a long deep kiss before hopping in the van and starting the engine. “Get some sleep, see you a few hours.” You wave him off as he screeches down the road.
You decide to kill some time by taking a warm bath, putting one of Corroded Coffins mixtapes on to bring a little bit of the show to you. Once you were satisfied with your bath, you changed into a pair of Eddie’s sweatpants and one of his old t-shirts. You rarely wore your own pajamas to bed since Eddie had so many old clothes you liked to wear instead. They were comfier and you liked that they smelt like him. You slept next to him every night and could smell him just by rolling over, but that was besides the point.
You cuddled up underneath the covers of your shared bed and lit a candle before pulling out the book you were currently reading. You had gotten through another couple chapters before your eyelids began to feel heavy. Instead of fighting off the sleep like you normally would, you place your bookmark inside the book and blow your candle out before turning the light out.
You were woken up a couple hours later feeling Eddie’s chest pressed against your backside while his arm snaked around your waist, pulling you closer to him. You let out a deep breath, relaxing your body under his touch. You feel him slowly grinding his half hard length against your ass as he drags his hand down your side, rubbing circles on your hip.
“Good show?” You ask, your voice barely above a whisper. He mumbles a mm-hmm in your ear. He usually felt frisky like this after a show with the adrenaline running through him.
“Tell me about it.” You place your hand on his, pulling it down to your core. He groans in your ear, wasting no time in slipping it under your sweatpants, dragging his finger up and down your slit.
“We got a bigger crowd tonight, about 30 people.” He toys with your entrance before slipping his middle finger all the way in. “Played that new song i wrote about you.”
“You tell everyone- fuck- tell everyone about me?” He curls his fingers into you just the way he knows you like, while his thumb is rubbing circles on your clit.
“Yeah i did baby. Told everyone how fucking hot you are. And how you’re mine, how this pussy is mine, how you belong to me.” He pushes a second finger in, fucking you harder, feeling your walls start to clench around him. “Told them how much i love you, and how much i wished you were there. How i couldn’t wait to go home and fuck this tight little cunt.”
Your legs start shaking, his words sending you over the edge as your orgasm hits. You arch your back into him, feeling his cock pressing harder into your ass as his fingers continue to milk you through it.
He pulls his fingers out of you and pulls his own pants down his legs as you do the same.
“Why don’t you show me how bad you wanted to fuck my cunt.” He sits up on his knees, flipping you onto your stomach. You can hear him spit into his hand and start stroking his cock from behind you. The sounds of his hand rubbing his wet shaft were almost enough to end you once again.
You start bucking your hips back and forth with sinful moans leaving your mouth, begging him to take you already. He places one hand on your hip while the other pushes your head into the pillow. He drags his dick up and down your slit one last time before slowly pushing inside of you.
“Jesus christ.” He whispers, pulling out slowly and slamming back in. “She takes me so fucking good. All the time. Like she was made for my fucking cock.”
He continues thrusting in and out of you at a faster pace each time, with your moans being muffled by the pillow. He brings on of his hands to your ass, smacking it over and over making you whimper as your pussy twitches around him.
“Fuck me Eddie. Make me cum. Make your good girl cum all over your cock.” He snaps his hips up to yours, pulling your head up to his by your hair. He wraps one arm around your waist while the other holds on to your neck.
“You wanna cum baby?” He grunts into your ear. You shake your head, responding with nothing but a moan. “Good girls use their words. Tell me what you want.”
“Wanna cum for you. Wanna be your good girl please Eddie. I’m so fucking close.” You respond, bouncing up and down to meet his thrusts. His grip on your throat gets tighter, while his mouth starts sucking on the spot just below your ear.
“Then be a good girl.” He whispers, and with those words your shaking again, screaming his name so loud you know the neighbors can hear. You fall out of his grip and back onto the bed as the wave of pleasure takes over.
He grabs onto your hips, his grip so tight you’re sure it’ll leave bruises in the morning. He starts pulling your body into his for his last few thrusts. A loud curse of your name falls out of his mouth as he pulls out and you feel the strings of his own cum dripping down your ass.
His body falls on top of you, still grinding his dick on your ass to ride out his orgasm as he places wet kisses all down your spine.
Once he regains his strength again, he’s skipping to the bathroom to find a towel to clean you up. He lays back down on the bed, pulling you into his chest while running his fingers through your hair.
“I’m sorry i wasn’t there tonight.” You say, placing a soft kiss on his chest.
“I’d say you made it up to me pretty well.” He laughs.
“Did you really tell everyone about how much you wanted to fuck me?”
“Only a select few.” He smirks as you slap his stomach. He pulls you in for one last kiss before closing his eyes and drifting to sleep.
Must’ve been a hell of a show.

Ao3 20 Questions
thank you @kagedbird for the tag!! <3<3 i will tag some friends @daedrabait @miraakswhore @somethingscarlet13 @queerbashir if u wanna participate <3
How many works do you currently have on ao3? Currently 25. holy shit, i thought it was more than that lol
What's your total ao3 word count? 98,336. Used to be like 200k before i cleaned out some old works i didn't care for anymore.
What fandoms do you write for? Skyrim and Star Trek TOS & AOS
What are your top five fics by kudos? Sorry Lass, Make Me Feel Mortal, Don't Shut Me Out, Fascinating, and Destroy Rebuild
Do you respond to comments? Sometimes! Honestly it depends on whether or not i'm online and see them. if i don't respond right away it feels rude to respond weeks after the fact, but for repeat commenters or usernames i recognize i try to!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Idk i used to like to emotionally beat up Jim a lot, so probably one of the short stories where i explore all his traumas
What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Sorry, Lass. I originally wrote it in 2015 and i'm fairly certain it ends with a mushy marriage scene.
Do you get hate on fics? Surprisingly, no. I think i got a few rude comments back when i first started, but honestly everyone's been too kind to me.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Hell yeah brother that's what i do!! I love angsty, emotionally charged smut. my personal favorite to write is angry, hatefuck type of stuff. or when they're using it to avoid talking about feelings.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Not that i've ever posted lmao. I don't usually post non canon compliant fics for whatever fandom i'm working in.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Kinda. a few years ago someone let me know that my work had been reposted to a fic site i don't use and one quick message got them to take it down. Also, i once posted a fic as a one off, forgot that i'd done that, and used the same scene much later in a larger story - and some nice commenter on the original let me know that someone had stolen my idea lmao
Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope, never had anyone request that and don't want to do so incorrectly.
Have you ever cowritten a fic? Kind of? an old friend and i used to write separate chapters of our self insert marvel fics and mush them together into one story lol. never posted it anywhere, it was just shared emails and google docs.
What's your all time favorite ship? God, that's hard. probably McKirk. as i've gotten older and unlearned all the internal shame about self inserts it's gotten easier to do a self insert story instead of an established pair.
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Every few weeks i pluck away at my regency au Miraak fic. i don't think i'll ever actually finish it because it's just so big in my head it's hard to get on paper, but i hope i do someday.
What are your writing strengths? I'm very comfortable writing sex scenes. I think that often when the author is uncomfortable about writing explicit sex the reader can really feel it in the story and i put in a lot of work to get over those mental hurdles. i've been told i'm good at characterization, which is awesome! i love getting in a character's head!
What are your writing weaknesses? Very often i find myself bogged down with the need to describe every little scene. it's a major reason i haven't posted a longfic in a while - i want to write these big stories but find myself getting lost in the little details. i also have a terrible habit of editing myself while i'm writing, which just gets me stuck in an unproductive loop.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Since i'm only fluent in English, this isn't something i am confident in. i've written in a few fictional languages for fics before but would probably reach out or suggest another author if a reader wanted something that heavily involved this.
First fandom you wrote for? Twilight babey!!! self insert oc to smooch Edward Cullen when i was a little middle schooler!!! i didn't know what fanfiction was but i knew i had a big ol crush on him.
Favorite fic you've written? not to be cringe on main, but most of my favorites are things that never got published. they're the little things still hanging out in my google docs that i go back to over and over. i rewrote all of star trek into darkness word for word just to make bones and jim kiss, i made a self insert just to smooch skurge after hyperfixating on thor ragnarok, and the weird time a few months ago where i wrote like 40k words of a cowboy romance. i read them often and wish that i'd written more on many of them but i do not read my published works.
thanks to anyone who read my rambling lmao. love you all sososo much, thank you for reading my silly little stories and caring about them. <3<3<3

20 questions for fic writers
Thanks to @isagrimorie for the tag!
1 How many works do you have on Ao3?
14
2 What's your total Ao3 word count?
452,732
3 What fandoms do you write for?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and technically Angel, I suppose, but not really), Mass Effect (but not recently)
I've also tried writing some Avatar: The Last Airbender and Farscape and Person of Interest works over the years, but nothing that I've finished yet.
4 What are your top five fics by kudos?
Coexist: Season 3 Buffy AU in which it was Giles, and not Jenny, who was murdered by Angelus in Season 2 [27 chapters; 277,084 words; various POVs but mostly alternating Buffy/Faith]
Last Year's Rain Didn't Fall Quite So Hard: Season 4 Buffy AU in which Faith wakes up from her coma having forgotten about killing Allan Finch and everyting that happened afterwards [one shot; 16,904 words; Buffy POV]
Together: Season 3 Buffy AU in which the Homecoming Dance goes a bit differently [one shot; 2,711 words; Faith POV]
Done: post-canon Buffy fic set a few years after the end of Season 7, with Buffy having mostly stepped back from being an active Slayer [one shot; 4,312 words; Buffy POV]
Mixed Signals: post-canon Buffy fic looking at Faith's changing relationship with Buffy since first meeting her [one shot; 4,919 words; Faith POV]
5 Do you respond to comments?
Not often or promptly enough. I try though: I really do appreciate the comments I get a lot.
6 What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Think this is a toss-up between two different canon-compliant Faith POV one-shots: One Girl In All The World and Calling.
7 What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Together is the happiest and fluffiest thing I can imagine ever writing.
8 Do you get hate on fics?
I don't think so? None that I can remember anyway. (I do use the block and mute features on Ao3 though, so maybe I'm just blissfully ignorant.)
9 Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. Just don't have the talent for it.
10 Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I don't have any published crossovers but I do have very vague ideas for a Buffy/Farscape crossover that I sometimes play around with in my mind. (Largely inspired by the joke of taking the couple of times Crichton makes references to 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' which his crewmates don't get, and pretending that they're right to assume he's talking about a person he knows rather than a TV show he used to watch.)
11 Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge (and honestly I'm not sure I'd want to know if I had?).
12 Have you ever had a fic translated?
If I have I don't know about it (and I would love to know if I did!).
13 Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. I think it might be fun, but I'd probably have to change the way I write a lot.
14 What's your all time favorite ship?
Moya!
Tumblr media
I mean, look at her!
(Oh, okay, it's Buffy/Faith, if that wasn't obvious.)
15 What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I'd love to finish either of my uncompleted Mass Effect fics (the first and longest, Residuum, is actually fully planned out and has been for years: I just got stuck on writing a particular chapter and never managed to come back to it; I had a fairly detailed plan for Night Winds in Nos Astra when I posted the first chapter but then I decided I hated it and never figured out how to fix it.)
16 What are your writing strengths?
Dream sequences. Internal monologues. Foreshadowing. Planning. Quoting bits of canon back at the reader in hopefully interesting ways. Hopefully getting the characters' voices sounding reasonably accurate.
17 What are your writing weaknesses?
Deadlines. Brevity. Physical descriptions. Titles.
18 Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I haven't really thought about it much before, honestly.
19 First fandom you wrote for?
Mass Effect is the first fandom I submitted anything for anywhere online. I wrote some Avatar: The Last Airbender fic before that though (a long Azula POV AU that I would kind of like to come back to one day, though I'd probably have to rewrite it from scratch).
20 Favorite fic you've written
Realistically, I think popular consensus must be correct that Coexist is the best thing I've ever written (though I sometimes wish I'd spent more than a minute thinking up a title). It's definitely the work I'm proudest of, and I think it contains some of my best writing (and ... well, most of my writing, based on the numbers I just posted). But I have a bit of a soft spot for some of my earlier Mass Effect fics, which aren't incredibly polished but I learned a lot from working on, and for Last Year's Rain Didn't Fall Quite So Hard as well.
Tagging: @juanabaloo @beatriceeverytuesday @explosionshark @bodytoflame-ao3 and anyone else who wants to do this.

20 questions writer meme.
tagged by @heyholmesletsgo THANK YOUUU
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
not counting things i'd rather remained anonymous, 21!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
513,621 lol
3. What fandoms do you write for?
mdzs, vaguely tgcf, hotline miami (though mostly past tense) and we'll see about the future
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Wei Wuxian's Super Special Super Secret Book Club still reigns supreme with 1229 kudos, and will most likely be my legacy despite it being the second fic i ever wrote for the fandom (i think?)
If You're Reading This, It's Too Late with 513, one would think i'd still be messing around with this AU but i'm happy to leave it where it is and just keep messing around with the crackship
Dawn Chorus, my most precious baby, at 251 by some miracle despite being oc/canon. you guys spoiled me with the love for this one tbh. none of my other xue yang centric works got anywhere near this close and i'm at peace with that because he's bonking my oc in this one and they have a kid.
The Book Club Extras at 232, which is hilarious when compared to the original but at least new readers will see there's more and maybe in the year 2055 i will publish them for fun
Frozen Pond with 156 at the end of the list, written for my friend @petitjams and taking place in a silly AU we made together (wen chao stays winning on here which is very funny)
i'm attributing the popularity of the first two to mostly being centered around super popular characters, because my later stuff is naturally better yet struggling haha
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
always unless they're like just emoji, because i like conversation! though i may also reply with a little heart hehe
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i wouldn't call it angstiest ending, it's bittersweet, but the threads that bind us is my top pick. and it also needs more readers so go read it. your hands and mine has a bit of an 'angsty' ending but only for song lan. xue yang had it coming :p 💖
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
excluding the two above, so far they all have a happy ending, or at least neutral??? i'd say Book Club, though, because that's the massive 'everybody lives!!' silly fixit fic
8. Do you get hate on fics?
nope. i hope i didn't just jinx it. i get hate on art and through anon though! woo! (not anymore on here tho thank god)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
i do and i feel like it sucks so i almost always end up fading to black LMAO my actual explicit stuff remains private... it's like too embarrassing for me. i got judged for it as an 18 year old and 10 years later haven't gotten over it. i like bondage and bdsm though and that seems to crop up in private 😏
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
i do on occasion! i love roleplaying them, but the only one i have out there is The Way To His Heart Is Through His Stomach (Oh God Please Don't Eat Me), which mixes mdzs and tgcf characters in a unique setting :3
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not to my knowledge, but i've had art stolen plenty so i wouldn't even be surprised
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes, a few have been translated into russian!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
NOT YET BUT IT'S IN THE CARDS
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
all time? jeez. somebody tell me why i always freeze up and go blank when asked these simple questions? it's like i forget who the fuck i am. i feel like i should also say songxiao? but they're relatively new so it doesn't seem correct. fuck it. my all time favorite ship is [DATA MISSING OR CORRUPTED-- PLEASE PROCEED TO NEXT QUESTION]
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
haha... (looks at my abandoned hlm fic with the seventh chapter halfway written) haha...
16. What are your writing strengths?
i'd definitely say dialog. it makes sense, since the stuff i'm most used to doing is drawing silly comics. i also like to ping-pong emotions around and feel like i'm pretty good at that too
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
using the same words over and over and feeling like i never write Enough, like everything is always light and never in depth. i don't like making scenes too heavy with padding but i also feel like i need to find a balance
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
i'll do it only if it's a language i speak!!! this doesn't apply to peppering words like gege and stuff just for funsies. i think the best way to go about it is to just tell the audience what language they're speaking in that moment
19. First fandom you wrote for?
we're gonna have to go back to when i was 10 years old here lol... i think it was tokyo mew mew in terms of stuff i put online (oh god)
20. Favorite fic you've written?
it's hard to pick favorites, but i once again must say the threads that bind us in terms of work i'm most proud of.
i tag whoever sees it, plus @sugarapplebaby because ily

I was tagged by super talented @eve-to-adam! Thank you <3
How many works do you have on AO3? I've got 19 fics currently on ao3 (but I always think about deleting some of them so that number may go down).
What fandoms do you write for? Currently I only write historical RPF, but I've got two Still Star-Crossed stories on my profile as it stands. It was very fun to write them but the show wasn't renewed and eventually my passion ran out.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Draw Your SwordsBlooming (modern AU) We Sang of Roses (modern AU) A Royal BedJoy on Earth
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Though not always successful (I'm kind of a forgetful person, sorry!) I try to respond to comments because I like to acknowledge the person's effort in commenting. It's very easy to simply read and leave a like/kudos, but leaving a comment sometimes after you're still processing a story or when you're naturally very shy takes a bit more from you. So I like to acknowledge that.
What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably To love God is to love a sinner, but some stories have ambiguous endings such as The Relentless Weight and more recently, The Hour of the Wolf.
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably my no-plot-only-fluff fic, White Christmas
Do you get hate on fics? Not frequently, thankfully, though that's probably because the readership I get is so small. I did once get a comment saying my story was too cheesy, and another one once berating me for describing Elizabeth of York as 'blonde' (a herald who witnessed her coronation described her hair as 'light yellow'; so please don’t tell me I’m wrong ♥)
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do (though not frequently), which is considered controversial because I write about real (albeit historical) people. Sex is part of the human experience and it can tell us a lot about the characters and the relationships, so I try to feel less guilty about it. I also like to take smut as an exercising in writing: to test how far I can get in evoking a sensation without getting into more explicit territory is always a challenge.
Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? In terms of different fandoms? I don't remember ever doing that. I have mixed different eras, though.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of!
Have you ever had a fic translated? Again, not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not a fic per se, but once I did share an AU with @harritudur and another friend. It was very fun :D
What’s your all-time favourite ship? I do love to explore the relationship between Henry VII and Elizabeth because it was so unlikely to have happened in the first place, let alone succeed. I find it very touching! I do have other ships, though.
What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? It's not a WIP that I have posted anywhere but I did start writing a oneshot that I wanted to dedicate to a friend about the relationship between Edward IV and George of Clarence! It did feature a few unexpected people too.
What are your writing strengths? Probably dialogue and themes. It's difficult to say, I pick my writing apart so much when I'm in the process of writing it, once I publish it's very hard for me to go back and confront myself. It all kind of turns into nebulous territory.
What are your writing weaknesses? Many, many things but scene transitions are probably at the top of the list! That's why my story chapters usually all take place in a single scene.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? As a bilingual person I find it important to portray this completely unique experience of mixing two languages as they come (if the character in question is multilingual). It's not a popular view, though I do think people should get more comfortable with not understanding word-by-word everything that ever comes across the page. The strangeness of being confronted with a language that you do not know is a part of a different kind of experience and it can only enrich your reading. Of course, all should be within reasonable limits: information that is essential to the overall story should be in the language the story is set in.
First fandom you wrote for? I think it was Star Wars but I can't remember if I actually published it anywhere. I was very very young lol
Favourite fic you’ve ever written? Blooming has a very dear place in my heart, it was the first fic I actually felt like accomplishing myself in terms of achieving the characterisation I wanted for my characters and creating a narrative that made sense for their development.
I think most people have been tagged already, but I'm tagging @harritudur, @heartofstanding and anyone else who feels like joining in the fun! x

20 questions for fic writers
thank you @emryses for tagging me!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
12.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
240,148
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've only written Stranger Things so far.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Steve Harrington. Are you kidding me? Temptation Heat, Beats Like a Drum. Happy Valentine's Day, Big Boy. This is the coin I had in my pocket the first time we kissed and I always have it. And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I try to at least reply with something so people know I saw their comment and appreciate it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm a happy ending girlie, honestly. (I also have a lot of WIPs so they don't have an ending yet.)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
As far as actually finished fics goes, probably Steve Harrington Are you kidding me.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten a few comments here and there that weren't the nicest or could have probably been left off. But mostly I've gotten good feedback.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do! I always convince myself it's not very good but it's fun to write! And I really just write whatever fits the story? I don't think I really have anything I particularly favor.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have not. I don't usually read crossovers either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, I haven't!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No I haven't but I am in awe of people who can do that. That seems so difficult to me.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I think Steddie is always going to be top dog for me, honestly. I've read fics for such a long time but Steddie is the first that got to me enough that I actually started creating things for it as well. And the brainrot is still going strong.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I honestly plan on finishing all my abandoned WIPs at this time!! I guess if I had to pick it would probably be Coin just because it's the one I've struggled the most with. But I'm hoping to come back to it still!
16. What are your writing strengths?
Oh man. That's a tough one. I think...character voice. I think I do a pretty good job of grasping a character and sticking as closely to what feels most like them at least, in my mind.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Honestly I think just my own confidence and need for external validation. I wish I could just write for myself and enjoy it regardless of how well something does. I also just really struggle with writing in longer bits. I tend to write in little snippets and pieces ad it takes so long to get anywhere that way.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I don't think I would ever try. I don't speak any other language and trying to master the nuance of speaking in one while relying on like...google translate just doesn't sound like it would go well.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Stranger Things! Steddie was my first dive into writing fanfic at all.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
I am so incredibly proud of And You May Find Yourself. I stepped outside my comfort zone a lot for this fic all the way from the themes to just actually reaching out and being more a part of the Steddie community. I've made some great friends through the process and have signed up to be a part of way more than I originally planned on when I decided to so the Steddie Big Bang. I still have two chapters to write for this one and although I'm really looking forward to it finally being done I'll absolutely miss the version of these characters I created for this go around. I hope people love them as much as I do.

fic writer asks 🫓🥘🍛🍠🍢🍥🍘
Thank you so much!! <3333
Answers under the cut as usual
Fic Writer Asks
🫓 What is your most popular fic?
By sheer stats, it's Catch and Release, though I think part of that is the fact that it's a large fandom (Spider-Man), a popular character (Andrew Garfield's Spidey), and I started posting it right after No Way Home came out
Proportionally (like total hits to kudos/comments), I think Heart in Your Hands is winning right now, it's my newest fic but it's gotten so many unexpected comments and kudos and I'm still reeling about it.
🥘 What category do most of your fics fall under?
Longfics with a lot of action, and a blend of angst and fluff. Even my oneshots have the same blend of angst and fluff, I think, it's most fun for me to include both.
🍛 Have any comments, tags or reactions to one of your fics every made you laugh or cry or both?
I mean, I've nearly cried from getting long, thorough comments on some of my fics, especially the fics that were low on interaction (I got so few comments on A Love Once New that I guarantee I teared up reading some of @can-of-pringles' comments when they read it, just bc I was so utterly starved for feedback and they touched on a lot of things I wanted people to notice)
I did find it funny, one time I got two comments on Catch and Release after I introduced Charybdis - one comment was along the lines of "Noooo don't hurt my girl I'm so scared!" and the other was like "Evil Ophelia's gonna be fun" and just the sheer dichotomy between those two takeaways made me laugh.
🍠 How long does it take you to write one of your fics or a chapter/part?
The actual writing is anywhere from a day to 2 weeks, but my fics end up going months without updating them because 1. I'm trying to balance updates between my different WIPs and I have a lot to get through before it rolls back over to the one I just updated and 2. I either get really busy or just cannot focus enough to write on that particular fic.
Basically I go through months of writing absolutely nothing, then whip out anywhere from 3-8k words in a matter of days and suddenly have a chapter to post.
🍢 Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Not that I can remember, thankfully. The closest I've gotten were a few of those spammy "AI detected" comments, or an impatient reader getting pissy about waiting for an update, but I don't think I've ever gotten actual hate on my fics.
🍥 What's your favorite fic you've written?
Aw man, you can't do this to me!! I love them all in different ways, and I bounce around between them based on what I'm feeling at the time. I legitimately can't pick a favorite, they all touch on different things I love
🍘 Is there a fic or idea for a fic that you've abandoned?
Hm... I abandoned a Wednesday fic after things came out about PHW and Tim Burton, I wrote two chapters but never posted them and recycled the OC into another fic idea. My first-ever fic also got scrapped, just because I couldn't look at it without cringing and I just couldn't bring myself to continue it. Eventually I'll rewrite it, I think.
Aside from that, I've got a lot of ideas that need to be revamped or adjusted bc they're pretty old, and sometimes I go so long without updating my fics that I'm sure it feels like I've abandoned them, but I do my best not to abandon what I write.

In idol darling au, i can see Rook as type of fan who wrote "sold to [idol darling]" type of fanfic and the same fanfic is the self insert fanfic (but sometimes he also wrote Neige x idol darling fanfic, gotta write something about his two favourite Idols after all)
Idia and Azul is the loyal anonym reader and Azul commented about the contract part a little too detailed, but Rook is fine with that and even incorporate Azul ideas into his fic. Jade and Floyd once read the fanfic and went "wait, that's a little too familiar don't you think?" When they got to the contract part
Omg he would definitely write those types of fics!! He also writes a lot of meet cutes, but the setting can range from anywhere to a quaint café in the city to a desolate forest and you just happened to run into a pretty face (him). Azul and Idia absolutely devour every fanfic he puts out!! They are being fed so well. Both of them discuss the chapters/oneshots during their board game club meetings (secretly, of course. Can’t let anyone know they’re the anonymous readers). They’ve even commented some suggestions and tips.
Idia and Azul are the type of fic readers who stay up past midnight, lying in their beds with their phones practically kissing their faces, while they silently squeal about certain parts in the fic (aka any kiss/nsfw scene because whoever’s writing this is sure good at penning descriptive smut).
Neige probably read one of the fics with him and you when a few people commented about it on Magicam and he got curious. He’s never read anything like that before, so he’s not really sure how to feel. On one hand, he likes how detailed the writer is and he can obviously tell these works were crafted with passion! But on the other, it’s a little awkward to read about yourself and another person you know well in the industry. He read the one where he was a prince and he swept you off your feet and was your true Prince Charming and he was hooked. That’s his favorite fic and he’ll return to it on occasion just to feel those butterflies from the confession scene. <3
They’re both reading it on Jade’s phone and when they get to the contract part they can’t help but look up at Azul and then back at the fic and then back at Azul. Yeah, that sounds like something he’d do. ^^;; But they’ll admit it’s a little interesting reading about it. No wonder why Azul’s always glued to his phone when he has some time to spare…

20 questions for fic writers
I was tagged by @lilolilyr 🥰💕❤️ thank you so much!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
85!
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
409,668, more than half of which I've posted this year---210,056 words, to be exact, which is absolutely insane!!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently only Mirandy (Devil Wears Prada).
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Well, this is going to be embarrassing, lol:
bad things (487)
nightly encounter (469)
Too Soon, Not Soon Enough (434)
unexpected (410)
Stalling the Inevitable (377)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I respond to every single comment I receive. I love interacting with people, hearing their thoughts and ideas! Every time I get a comment, it reminds me of the fact that there are actual, real humans out there that read my writing??? And that's still so crazy to me, even after 6 years???? So I always feel the need to let them know how much I appreciate them!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
That would be two:
Thank you, baby (for loving me like you do)
unrequited
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Ohhhhh, I am SUCH a sucker for happy endings. You'll find that---taking away the two outliers from the previous question, obviously---all my works have happy endings!!
8. Do you get hate on fic?
I can't remember ever receiving any. That said, people do sometimes comment things like "hmmm this is weird" or whatever but, like, I pretty much just ignore that.
9. Do you write smut?
Oh, I am very much into writing smut, yes! In fact, I've currently got The Kink Series going on which... is exactly what it sounds like, lol. Smut, smut, and then some more smut; though, in this case, I'm actively trying to dive into things I haven't explored before.
Also, I've just noticed that out of the 16 works I've written/posted for the DWP fandom, 13 have been explicit. Whoops?
10. Do you write crossovers?
I haven't so far, no!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I had someone repost some of my works in a smut collection a few years back. They mentioned my username, but did not ask me beforehand---or even tag me properly. I ended up asking them to take it down, and they did. My finding it in the first place had been a complete fluke, though.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, though I've attempted to translate some of my own works. It didn't work. (I realized I suck at writing in German, lmao.)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope! But I've just recently talked about a potential collab with someone whose writing I really enjoy! So that's exciting!
And just in general, I'm very open to trying out new things---i.e. collaborating on fics.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Well, I'm going to have to say Mirandy here. This ship really has me in its grip. I love the dynamics, and I thoroughly enjoy playing with their characters. There are so many things to explore!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
Okay, so, I do have this one idea. And I've written... a tiny little amount. Maybe around 3k. I realized, however, while I was writing, that it would most likely take 20k+ words to make it anywhere near enjoyable. It just wouldn't flow otherwise, I don't think; plus, I wouldn't be able to properly explain everything. Unfortunately, I'm just not really one to write multi chapter fics, and so I've come to the conclusion that it'll probably just sit in my docs forever and collect dust.
Sorry @ Assignment WIP.
16. What are your writing strengths?
As soon as I've got a good sentence to get me started, I can usually just keep going and get all my ideas out in one or two sittings. I'm also an exceptionally fast typer, which means I can write things down as quickly as soon as they pass through my head. Very good, considering my memory is absolutely crap.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I have no organizational skills. So if I realize a fic idea would have to be explored in multiple chapters, I usually retreat and abandon the idea.
That also means I just...do not plan fics. Ever. Not even my one shots. I'm 100% serious when I say I would not have the patience to plot out, say, a slow burn fic. They either get it on, or they don't. (And in my case, they pretty much always do. 😏)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I did this all the time when writing Mariana/Ana fanfic. Madre Solo Hay Dos was, like, my first fandom earlier this year; effectively letting me reconnect with fic writing; and it was right around the time when I was obsessed with learning Spanish. So I constantly included Spanish text conversations, as we all as---occasionally---dialogue. 10/10, would recommend and do again.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Camren (Fifth Harmony). That's what got me into writing back in 2017, and it stuck with me for quite a while.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Hmmm... that's really hard. I love soulmate AUs, and considering my obsession with Mirandy at the moment, I think I'd have to go for Too Soon, Not Soon Enough.
Though I did also very much enjoy writing Pretty, Dirty Girl as well as the other, kinkier fics, including, for example, Four Play. The latter was challenging at first, but ultimately a great exercise.
Thanks again, friend, for tagging me!!! ❤️
I'm going to go ahead and tag @harrytoad, @sporkmetender, @guardianrock, @awomanontheverge. None of you have to feel obligated to do this, though. 🥰
oh, and if any other writers see this post---you're welcome to do this as well!!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @elevenelvenswords - thank you so much, friend <3 (and apologies for taking forever to get round to this!)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
49 in total.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
456,188 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mainly Silmarillion. I have dabbled in Star Wars and Dark Souls too, plus a D.Gray-man fic I wrote for a friend purely based on what she told me about the characters as I've never read the manga or watched the anime.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
My top one is Yield to the Moment, which is completely fair enough as it's a beast of a fic and by far the longest multi-chapter I've ever written. The next two are Strange New World and A bond once called fealty, part of my Swords series looking at Melkor and Mairon post-Dagor Dagorath. Then we've got The Metal Cage which is pure PWP (chastity play/CBT) and I am very glad people are having fun with it. And fifth is A quiet sort of introspection, a Melkor-centric character study also set in the Swords 'verse.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yep! I think it's only fair to reply to people if they've taken the time to share their thoughts about something I've written. Plus it can turn into a really fun thinking space to play around with ideas about characters!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ohhh I have to think about this one. I don't know if I tend to write particularly angsty endings? Maybe High and Higher? Which is a Fallen Banners ficlet set in Gondolin after Maeglin's return from Angband where he feels like he doesn't quite fit into his life anymore.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Yield to the Moment, probably! The wedding felt like a happy culmination of all the work they'd been putting into themselves and each other.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
It's happened a few times, yeah. But generally people seem to take a "ship and let ship" stance to fandom.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Quite a lot of smut haha. Honestly I'd describe my particular brand of smut as a thinly veiled excuse for a psychological study of the characters.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Haven't written any crossovers yet.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge, thankfully.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A couple, yeah, back in 2015-ish when I first started writing for the Silm fandom. Sadly I took down all those old fics at a time when my mental health wasn't amazing (wish I hadn't), and I'm not sure if the translations still exist anywhere.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
YTTM started out as a co-written project.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Will have to go with Angbang here. They just seem to speak to a deep deep part of my psyche.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I've got a very rough WIP about Mairon bonding with Tar-Míriel in Númenor that I don't feel super engaged with anymore.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterisation, I hope! I've always been drawn to writing as a way to explore what makes characters tick, why they do the things they do. I also really enjoy coming up with fun ways to describe things.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Everything can always be improved, I suppose! At the moment I think I'm mindful that I find it difficult sometimes to end fics in ways that feel punchy or memorable.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Totally on board with it when used thoughtfully as a plot device or a way to add depth to characters.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Oh goodness, I think it was Harry Potter back when I was 13 or 14. Those fics will not be seeing the light of day haha.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Hmm I don't actually like reading my own stuff very much. It's a bit of a struggle to switch off the perfectionism. That said, YTTM has a special place in my heart. It took a lot of time, a lot of thought, and sometimes a lot of effort, and while I'm not 100% happy with it, I am glad that I got it over the finish line and that I had a chance to tell a story I really wanted to tell.

Writing Wrap Up 2022
So... this year I want to take a bit of a different approach. The last 2 years I’ve wrapped up my writing by posting one from each month and thanking y’all for reading, which I thought about but then... it hit me.
I haven’t really posted anywhere near half of what I’ve written this year.
It’s a little insane to me, I’ve posted a shit ton these last 2 years, racked up an impressive word count for sure, but this year was. Different. For a few reasons.
So this is just going to be me contemplating and examining how my writing has changed this year, if you’ll indulge me.
Talking with a friend, the year itself stuck out to me. 2022. 3 years since I started writing at all. To keep the story brief, I wrote my first work on winter break back in 2019 at the behest of my bestie @/freshfruitforrottingvegetables (I’ve @’d them enough times crediting them for this) and posted it on ao3. I’ve pretty much been writing non-stop since. Invader Zim got me into writing, and the community I found there boosted me and gave me an absolutely incredible support system.
But, other than the occasional reblog, this isn’t really a Zim blog anymore. I certainly don’t write about it as much, if ever. Now there’s a few reasons for that, not the least of which being almost 3 years is the longest I’ve had a fixation in a while. I’m amazed it held on as long as it did. Second was... I finished the royalty au. It’s almost hard to remember the beginning of this year but back in March, I posted the last chapter of “Isn’t it A Trial”, wrapping up the project I’d spent nearly two years trying to complete. My first big project.
And it was done.
There were a few other behind the scenes things that led to distancing from IZ from a writing standpoint but those aren’t really the point of this.
For the first time since starting this journey, I was... on my own, so to speak. It was weird, scary at times even. Hell, I’m still very much adjusting to doing entirely OC work. The circle of people I’m posting to isn’t a huge thriving fandom, it’s just my mutuals, and those who’ve come to love the Ocean Idiots crew. I throw in some of my (and @/shmunter’s) ocs in as well, but that’s what I’ve been writing from y’all’s perspective.
As I said, that’s not even a fraction of the stuff I’ve written in my own time that I don't post. Before, I was writing for an audience on some level. They were always stories I wanted to tell, but there was also the excitement of putting them in a pool of collaboration and community. That there were others. Now, these are my stories almost (really key word of almost, I’m not claiming sole ownership of anything) entirely.
So I’ve had to adjust. I’m still adjusting. I’ve had a lot of days where writing had been a real uphill battle for me and I questioned the quality of my work. What does it mean now that I’m writing for a more narrow group? Is there a point to it? Am I less inspired now? How can I tell I’m growing or not? Can I tackle the scope of project I want to tackle next? Each time I think about it, it gets more and more daunting, overwhelming even.
That one post about “Aww did you scare yourself out of doing a project” plays often in my mind. Very often.
It’s going to be a weird year, even few years going forward. Graduation is on the horizon, with the prospect of maybe moving out and making it on my own from here on. I might move away, I might stay home. There’s a lot of unknowns and within that is what I’m going to do with my writing as well. It’s a part of me now without question, but what form will it take? Will I take?
Much to consider.
So for this moment, I’m choosing to focus on celebrating the changes that have happened, the work I’ve done this year. The ways I’ve improved, the small leaps into different original ideas that I’ve had. I’ve had a ton of fun with making aus for just myself and like- one other person. I had a blast writing for my old DND characters too! There’s a lot to be proud of, and that’s what matters.
I want to see what I can do, and I think sticking to some short stories while I shore up and figure out what to do with my bigger concepts might be where I go. Maybe not. Who knows. But at the end of the day, we’ll find out when we get there. Thank you, all of you, for your support, your comments, and your encouragement this year. It’s been a good one, for all its ups and downs.

✍️+🍷+✨+😬+😈+⌛️
✍ Do you have a beta reader?
I used to on FF.Net. They read act 20 something to 44. I kept writing the story and realized nothing was getting posted. Turns out I had sent a chapter about a year ago and never heard back. This is why only one chapter was posted of Chaos Theory in 2021 on that site.
I started posting on A03 at this time. So I reached out and told them I was planning on posting the rest of the story by the end of the year which was now complete. Acts 45 to 60. They got back to me right before I posted Act 44. So acts 45 and on do not have a beta. Rebirth did not either. This is why I read everything three times before posting to try to catch as many mistakes as I can.
🍷 Do you drink and write?
Yes. I write or outline. However, I am a total light weight with alcohol and stick to one drink because when I start drinking more than one it makes me really sleepy. Drink of choice is flavored rum and coke. Sometimes white wine.
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
Umm.... I would say my writing style has improved a lot since 2014 when I started Chaos Theory. I've also spend more time brainstorming and developing the story so it makes it easier to write.
😬 Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?
The ones I wrote under my previous penname that was lost to the internet. I wrote them when was 13 - 15. (26 years ago) Those are on my harrdrive and will remain there. Though... I might have incorporated a few plot points from them into Chaos Theory. Like the Moon Senshi and it gives me ideas on some attack phrases. Rebirth was a complete overhaul of one. So much better too!
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
100%!!! "This is Only the Beginning" was one giant tease in a way. The cliffhanger where Fighter nearly dies in Act 28. And then I have two that are going to be really bad for this arc. One of them a friend helped me make it even worse! Act 61 has a pretty mean cliffhanger but I have others that I have planned are worse.
⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter?
Ummm. I would guess it takes me a year or two to write an arc. I plan for months and then writing during Camp NaNo or NaNoWriMo which is 50,000 words 3 times a year and have anywhere from 6 to 7 chapters depending on length at the end of the month. The edits after are what kills me.
Currently Act 61 is at 16,941 words with 5 more pages of notes, unedited. So that means fewer chapters will be written this month due to the length since I am focused on wrote count. I could split the chapter up.... but cliffhanger.
Thanks for the questions! I know they ended a lot more wordy than I anticipated.

Fic tag game!
Tagged by @sweeteatercat
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
110
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
783,677
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I do one fandom at a time and it's D:BH right now
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
My Heart Knows You (Miraculous Ladybug)
The Rest Of Our Lives Will Do (FFXV)
Supernatural (FFXV)
Candyfloss (FFXV)
Beginnings (FFXV)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to. Sometimes things are going on, but so long as I'm in a good place and I have time and the ADHD doesn't get me, I will respond.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angstiest is kinda hard to quantify. I write a lot of angst. Would you consider the break up to try and keep each other safe (Sacrifice, FFXV) angstier than major character death (Five Times Gladio Carried Ignies, FFXV) (Close To Me Always, D:BH), or is rape by deception (A Night To Remember, FFXV) (Night of the Soul, D:BH) worse?
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I have multiple examples of this too but I'm gonna say Pendulum (D:BH) because it's the hardest won for the characters.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Aahahahahaha, I have one particularly persistent troll that targets anyone that doesn't do Hankcon 'right' (Connor has to be a virgin) and dares to mention Reed900. I included a Reed1700 chapter in one fic just for them.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Hoooo boy. Yes. Usually M/M, although I have more recently written some M/F. It's usually very graphic, occasionally kinky.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
My dude. Bro. I am the Multifandom Crossover AU queen. Both Getting Home and Pendulum feature characters from D:BH, Bleach, Kingdom Hearts, and some OCs and is set in the same universe as Booty Call, and the universe in which One Night and Yours is set is the same universe as I Promise You One Day and also features characters from Kingdom Hearts and Bleach.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had someone request to translate Getting Home into Russian, which I agreed to on the proviso that I would be the one posting the translation with credit to the translator, because I'm not comfortable having my work posted by others even if it's in another language. I have yet to receive any translation to post, however. I don't like the idea that for whatever reason I may have for wanting or needing to take my fics down (something I am generally against), I would not have the ability to actually do that.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Yes, but we never completed it and my writing partner got cold feet and we agreed to pull it.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Currently Hankcon, previously Gladnis.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I have one unfinished Miraculous Ladybug fic that I'm definitely never going back to.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Apparently scene transitions? A lot of people struggle with them and I don't. My biggest strength used to be dialogue, but I think other areas have caught up these days. I'm also told I write kisses really well.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Passive voice and punctuation. My hand kinda inserts commas anywhere my brain pauses for breath, which results in weird comma splices, and I go through my work and rip all the passive voice I can out before I post.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
More than a few words is getting fucking checked by a native speaker.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The very first? I don't remember the fandom but I remember the fic name. It was on FFN and called As The World Falls Down, and it got yanked in the songfic purge waaaay back when. The first fandom I was active in is The Fandom That Shall Not Be Named (except to say it is not Harry Potter, it is, in fact, much more embarrassing than that).
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I'm gonna say Ghosts in the Machines (D:BH) right now, because I had a blast reworking the canon and trying to make it less dumb. And clowning on Elijah Kamski. That bit's important too.
I'm not gonna tag people because I don't know who has and hasn't been tagged at this point, but if you are following me, I would love to know your answers to this.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
thank you @recurring-polynya for tagging me!
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
44!
2) What's your total AO3 word count?
247,354
3) What fandoms do you write for?
bleach and kurobas, but i used to write a LOT of batman fanfics only 3-4 years ago
4) Top 5 fics by kudos?
1) six hearts beat as one
2) Make My Wish Come True
3) all i long for (all i worship and adore)
4) i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
5) Paper Houses
#1 is a drabble/fic collection and #3 is a kurobas fanfic! 🤗
5) Do you respond to comments?
i try to get to every single one, but i still don't know what the protocol is for long fics when a reader leaves a comment on every single chapter. i try to just reply to the last one to avoid spamming them, but generally i love receiving comments so i usually get back to all of them!
6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
no angsty endings, only angsty beginnings and middles
7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
...all of them? i think? my fics are pretty formulaic, at this point, so any conflict gets resolved by the end. i'd say my favorite ending is the one i wrote in Therein Lies the Heart, mostly because it's set in a time where orihime was still recovering from everything she went through in hueco mundo and figuring out how she wants to grow next as an individual, so i like how it ends with a hopeful note that she's made peace with whatever has happened and is ready to take on whatever is coming next! i think it sits neatly between pre-timeskip and post-timeskip in canon bleach, but that's just me!
8) Do you get hate on fics?
no, thankfully
9) Do you write smut?
not often. they're hard to write!
10) Do you write crossovers?
i think crossovers are very interesting but they're hard to execute in a way that incorporates the themes and elements of both stories! i joke around a lot about my favorite characters from bleach meeting my favorite characters from kuroko no basket and i love to toy around with unconventional team-ups like kakashi and orihime being pen-pals or ichigo and kuroko being classmates in college (since they're interested in the same major) but i don't think i'd actually write any, it's just me playing around with my dolls and then putting them back in the box! i don't read many either, but the one fic i did read (which was a knb/free crossover i think) was very good, even if i haven't actually watched free! crossovers require a special talent and while i'm curious about how i'd approach one, idk if i actually will😅
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of!
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
someone offered once, but they never got back to me!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no, i'm shy🙈
14) What's your all-time favorite ship?
ichihime and aokagakuro <3
15) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
i lose steam a lot unfortunately, so i know there are going to be a few fics i might never finish. i try to keep them in the drafts so i don't end up disappointing anyone, though!
16) What are your writing strengths?
i like my characterization!
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
not a good plot person, i think. most of my fics are born out of short-term ideas or concepts or stories where nothing really happens and characters just feel things. i am also a lazy proof-reader so most of my edits/additions/corrections happen after i post something. i'm trying to work on that!
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
i don't think i've ever put in a whole dialogue in another language, but there are some words and honorifics that you really can't capture accurately in english, so i pepper those in. they're pretty infrequent, though. i try to stick to what i know and work with it!
19) First fandom you wrote for?
....supernatural, but i never posted it anywhere 💀 the first fics i posted were all in the batman fandom
20) Favorite fic you've ever written?
You Can Show Me Your Heart (ChadHime) - this fic had been in my head for two whole years but i had never attempted writing it because i could never figure out how to start. once i finished it though, i ended up loving it a lot! i also love circuit which is my first aokagakuro fic!
tagging: whoever wants to do this, just say i tagged you and go ahead!
