Schneider's family ; The significance of Marian

REVERSE 1999 SPOILERS AHEAD : FOR CHAPTERS 1 AND 2 ! Please tread carefully and make sure you only read about what you're willing to know.

I know we're all still completely in shambles from Chap. 2, but I wanted to make a speculation about Schneider-- and a comment about how well she's written !

Let me start with this: In many pieces of media, viewers, listeners and readers alike are told that a character has people they care for. They're told a character has a lover, a wife, kids, a family, a sister. We're told the same about Schneider: that she has 11 older siblings, and that she works in the mafia to support them.

However, it's very rarely that we're given a name and a face for these supposed loved ones. And even rarer is it that they're written well, not just as a ploy for empathy, but as their own character: Ladies, gentlemen, and esteemed guests: I present to you, Marian.

Marian is one of my favorite characters just as a stand-alone: she's realistic, she's anxious, she clings to Schneider like a lifeline-- but she's brave, too. I'd love to do an in-depth analysis on her another time, but we're here for another reason.

Marian, first of all, shows us what Schneider's family is like. How they were raised, what they believe in, who they depend on. Soft topic, I know, but as someone of Italian lineage, it's very important to me that I point this out: Marian is extremely religious.

Immigrants of every kind tend to be religious. It gives them much more faith than they ever could have: a new lifeline. They managed to make it across such a winding sea? Oh, thank the lord. They haven't been kicked out of the Americas for emigration? Thank you, holy one. There's so many more reasons for this than "they need something they don't have"- maybe the fact that the rendition of god in every religion is said to love everybody, not just those who were born into wealthy families with the bluest eyes and the blondest hair.

When in a moment with no reason, and all different kinds of desperate measures being needed.. Schneider does what her family coaxes her to. She prays.

(I can't find a screenshot, but please refer to the iconic "I didn't know you prayed" scene, and the screenshot directly below this sentence.)

I also want to point out a large difference between Schneider and her family: Schneider's perspective on a 'god' differs so, so much from her family's.

She looks to whoever may be above, in her world, scornfully-- at least, in the present day. In her past, there is a particularly impactful line I want to debunk.

"The god there ... loves the world." Schnider's family seems to believe that god was the one guiding them, the one who will forgive them-- Schneider believed that it was a whole different entity. This kid believes that the god in Sicily, whoever they may be, does not love the world-- and mio dio, if that's not fucked up, I don't know what is.

And, when Schneider comes to America and sees that shit isn't as it's cut off to be, she's resentful of whoever this god may be. She gives a pray as her last bet-- what her family wants.

And it's not that she doesn't believe in this god-- no. She just doesn't believe they love her.

"Finally forgive me" -- Finally being the key word here. She's lived all her life never being treated to mercy or being 'forgiven for her sins' -- and at her most fragile, exposed moment, she relents to what her family has taught her. To what she truly believes-- to Sicily, to Marian, her sorella. Maybe even all 11 sorelle and her parents.

And, again, they're different at face value. Marian is calm, kind. She dresses modest and has her hair grown out: she's timid, too, not befitting of a mafia boss. She's different from her younger sister.. but she's still important. She shows us another side of Schneider: and, more importantly, she shows us what-- no, who Schneider is fighting for.

Marian provides us with extremely beneficial background context of where Schneider comes from-- and, in that process, gives many of us someone to empathize with. Yes, I too know somebody at least a little like her. You do too, likely.

Maybe, you're even like Schneider-- maybe she's someone you'd aim to protect.

Map of Soho Good Omens Season 2 - Part 3 (the intersecting street)

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 4 Update: Map and pictures further down now have Lucky Snake, and the description of both the Lucky Snake and The Chinese Buffet Restaurant have been updated too.

We don't know the name of the street that crosses Whickber Street. It starts between the market and the furniture store, and after a crooked crossing of Whickber St., it continues between the bookshop and the Dirty Donkey Pub until it ends on Wardour Street. On that upper block we have: -A. Z. Fell & Co. The bookshop has a backdoor that leads to this street. -Bilton Scaggs Hats and Caps This shop has been here for centuries. Originally Bilton and Scaggs was a publishing firm that printed among other things "The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, witch." Neil believes they went out of business in the late 19th century and the hat makers took over. Their shop was called Bilton and Scaggs Milliner & Haberdasher for a while and eventually they changed to Bilton Scaggs Hats and Caps. But honestly, only Aziraphale knows the whole story.

On the other side of the street we have: -The Dirty Donkey We don't know how long this pub has been in business, but we know that it was already there in the 40's when the zombies used it to hide and spy on the heroes. And then in 1967 Crowley used a private room to set up the caper to steal holy water from a church. The set was also used to set up two of the pubs where Gabriel and Beelzebub met. Both scenes were filmed on the same day! After the tour, the first episode of Season 2 was screened inside the pub for those lucky enough to win spots. The Dirty Donkey Pub has also appeared in Neil's "We Can Get Them for You Wholesale" and "Sandman: Overture." In the show, one of the elevators to Heaven and Hell opens inside the Dirty Donkey, maybe this supernatural ability allows it to show up in many different Neilverses ;) -"Model" This is Mrs. Sandwich mysterious establishment. Nobody really knows what happens there. We know the upper floor has lovely pink curtains, presumably for her girls who also love coffee. -Will Goldstone's Magic Shop Named after Will Goldston (not sure why an extra "e"), a stage magician who wrote many books on magic. The store existed in 1941 when it was run by Pat (who met a gruesome end at the hands of zombie nazis). Will Goldston himself died in 1948. So, was he the owner of the store and Pat just an employee? Did someone use his name? Or is that the reason behind the additional "e", to claim it wasn't him? We don't know. In current times it is operated by Mutt.

This street ends on Waldour Street and because we don't see much of it, I included those shops in this post: -Chinese Buffet Restaurant (updated) The English sign just says "Chinese Restaurant", Google translate gave me "Chinese Buffet Restaurant" for the sign on either side (if you look closely both sides say the same thing). There is no other writing that I could see so I would say that we don't know if it has another name or where is it written (inside maybe?). @embracing-the-ineffable raised the question of how do we know Mr. and Ms. Cheng own the restaurant. The truth is that we don't know for sure. We have assumed it probably because Aziraphale and Ms. Cheng are in front of the restaurant when he invites her to the meeting, but for all we know she was just walking on the street when they met. The Chengs could easily own the Herbal Pharmacy or the Grocery Store. We just don't know for sure -Lucky Snake (updated) To the right of the restaurant (our left) there is another store with yellow walls and red lanterns. It was brought to my attention (thank you!) that this is the infamous Lucky Snake we see in Aziraphale's typed list of shops. In Season 1 it was called "Oriental Delights" but this season it is a grocery store. -Herbal Medicine and Pharmacy - Traditional Chinese medicine appointments To the left of the restaurant (our right) we have the herbalist/pharmacy. This is written in English while "traditional medicine appointments" is written in Chinese. There is no other name outside either.

Turning around and looking towards Whickber Street, we can get a peek all the way to Great Windmill Street, between the news agency and the market. -Windmill Theatre Today it is called Windmill Soho but the name Windmill Theatre is equally recognizable. In 1941 it was owned by Mrs. Laura Henderson. The theatre was famous for 1)not closing at all, even during the heaviest of bombings and 2)its motionless nude girls (tableaux vivants) called the "Windmill Girls". Because of this, it used the motto "We Never Closed" (although people modified to "We Never Clothed"). In the set, the doors are not props, they are the real doors to the internal docks of the studio, which honestly it is very clever.

AND THEN THE SCENE WHERE ROBERT KISSES AND WAKES UP GISELLE AFTER EDWARD’S KISS DOESN’T WORK BUT WITH RIO AND JEFF OMGG!!!!

I was searching thru tumblr for modern atwow au crumbs but I found so LITTLE content of it??? So I decided i’m going to make my own headcanons for the avatar teens (neteyam, kiri, lo’ak, ao’nung, rotxo and tsireya) about what they would be like in a modern highschool au (they’re from the future but like pretend it makes sense please i keep tearing my hair out when I even try to fathom how this could be possible) .

Honestly after this my entire blog might just be modern avatar things

so i gracefully present to you…

⌲ A for Active (Are they active in class?)

neteyam: Yeah, but he really does his best not to seem like too much of a teacher’s pet or a tryhard. He constantly raises his hand to answer and asks questions, and the teachers love him for this. One time he was the kid that reminded the teacher about the homework; needless to say he got a lot of tomatoes thrown at him that day.

kiri: Yes, but by active I mean actively debates with teachers. She will not be afraid to point out something politically or literally wrong that the teachers say, and if they fight back, she will not hesitate to put them in their place. Watch any teacher be openly homophobic while she’s present and they’re gonna get it.

lo'ak: Yes and no. He’s the type of kid to sit by the window and peer out into the sky while not listening to the teacher at all, cause he’s having his main character moment. But he’s ALSO the type of kid to doodle all over the table in permanent marker, and when the teacher says anything remotely related to a joke (peanuts, walnuts, nuts, your mom, getting milk) he’ll point it out and say jokes and turn the whole class laughing and alert in a matter of seconds cause he said something about it. Or he’ll ask stupid questions to stall time. Either way he’s not doing the teachers any favours.

ao'nung: You’d be having a conversation with him by whispering and then the teacher would call on him to answer, and you know what he does?? He answers it PERFECTLY. Nobody knows how he does it. NOBODY KNOWS. This has happened so many times that all the teachers don’t even bother cause they know he’s listening somehow. In short he will only answer questions if called on and in case he needs to ask a question he just sends an e-mail after school, he never speaks voluntarily in class.

rotxo: Bro asks a lot of questions, always raising his hand and asking stupid stuff like Lo’ak but not even on purpose, he’s just oblivious. “Should we use a pen or pencil?” “Can I drink some water?” “Is blue ink okay?” “Can I just type this out on my laptop?” “Ms, do you like dogs?” “Oh. How about ca-” the teachers are sick of him but they don’t do anything about it cause they know he’s just unaware. They do appreciate him when the class is way too silent though. But not all the time.

tsireya: This girl is the sweetest. She raises her hand if the teacher asks a question but nobody answers, because she feels bad for them. In case you want to ask a question but are too shy or uncomfortable you can just send her a little paper note and she’ll ask the question for you! The teachers love her, and they all know her name, even the ones that have never taught her before.

⌲ B for Born For This (Which subject are they best at and most interested in?)

neteyam: He is a master of physics, and he loves it. He will dominate any physics group, always taking the lead and more often than not, doing 90% of the work even if his teammates aren’t lazy. He knows every formula out of the top of his head and consistently gets A+’s every physics assignment. If you aren’t good at physics, find him and be his group partner.

kiri: Interestingly enough, rather than biology, I think she’d love philosophy. She’d be the type of person to ponder really hard about her existence and the existence of others, and if anything was even real. She also loves to mess with people (and the teachers).

“Kiri, why didn’t you submit this assignment?”

“I did.”

“Well I’m not seeing it anywhere.”

“Maybe you’re not seeing anything at all.”

“What?”

“What is ‘anywhere’ to you?”

“...”

“You aren’t seeing it anywhere because ‘anywhere’ doesn’t exist.”

“That doesn’t make sense.”

“And the concept of ‘anywhere’ does?”

“...”

“Oh and you’re sitting on it.”

The teacher will look under themself and literally find it, and when they look up she’s nowhere to be seen.

lo'ak: We have 2 options. Either theatre or band, but I think he’d lean more into being the cool guitar guy in a band. He would shred really well and he knows all the chords, he can play any song with just 10 minutes of experimenting and he would write his own songs (some of them dedicated to….a special someone). And for theatre he’d be more into funny little school dramas rather than plays like Hamilton or Beetlejuice.

ao'nung: This guy is an insane math genius. He doesn’t even actually pay attention to the math lesson, he just listens for the first 5-10 minutes of explanation and boom he understands everything perfectly. Anyone would swear he has like a calculator built into his head with how freakishly speedy he is at calculating things.

“Does anyone know what 67 x 23 i-”

“1541.”

“How did you-” “It’s so easy??”

HE IS A MENACE. Don’t even bother doing your taxes just call Ao’nung (and give him 5 bucks) he’ll have it done in 30 minutes or less. The teachers keep trying to get him to join the math club but he keeps declining, insisting that he already knows what his passion is.

rotxo: He gives major literature vibes. Either that or he’d be really good at multiple languages (he learned 4 to impress 4 different girls that all rejected him). He’s really good with his words and never has any grammar mistakes, he knows the meaning of every word and every phrase. Dictionary who? Oh, and he likes poetry but he keeps it a secret from everyone (only Ao’nung, Tsireya, and Kiri know about it).

tsireya: Now THIS is a Hamilton girlie. Like Lo’ak, she’d be really into theatre or band as in the singer. Her voice is angelic and literally would enrapture everyone’s attention with the first note she sings. She is shy with it though, but Lo’ak is her designated hype man, constantly telling her how good she is at singing and encouraging her to be more confident (so sweet). One time they sang a little duet of an original song Lo’ak wrote and it blew up on YouTube getting like 1.7 million likes. If you ask them where the video is now they’ll say that Lo’ak’s little sister deleted it for her slime asmr youtube channel.

⌲ C for Coolness Scale (If you asked everyone in the school to rate how cool they were on a scale from 0-10, what would they get?)

neteyam: 0.1/10. Nobody considers him “cool”, he’s the golden boy of the school but not like Ao’nung. He’s perfect, but not cool. Kind, but never cool. You asked Lo’ak and he immediately gave his brother a 0 without second thought. Kiri gave him a 1 because she felt bad. Ao’nung also immediately said 0. Tsireya felt too bad to answer the question (cause she knows he’s not cool) and said “whatever Lo’ak said” because she expected him to rate him higher. He didn’t. Rotxo said “whatever Ao’nung said.” and he KNEW he gave him a 0.

kiri: A solid 6/10. Everyone thinks she’s funny, and a bunch of girls gave her a 10 because….👀 Anyways, she mostly keeps to herself and has the most neutral face ever by default, nobody really knows her except for her brothers and Tsireya + Rotxo (Ao’nung is an honourable mention since he knows stuff about her from Tsireya and Rotxo), so everyone thinks she’s the mysterious type when in reality she just keeps her personality to herself and her friends cause “nobody asked”.

lo'ak: 3.5/10. He’s funny and chill but tries to be cool but he isn’t. Tsireya gave him a 9, Neteyam gave him a 2, Ao’nung a 0, Rotxo a 0, Kiri a 0.5. Everyone else gave him 3’s or 4’s cause they appreciate the effort but he’s not cool he’s more of a funny guy.

ao'nung: 9.8/10. Everyone likes him, literally everyone. He’s super popular and all the girls (and some guys) swoon over him whenever he walks past them in the halls, wherever he sits there's bound to be people asking him stuff and wishing him good luck for his games. He’s cool with all the guys, super cool with the girls. He doesn’t like to play with anyone’s feelings so he hasn’t dated anyone yet (his mom raised him right fr). He does have a cocky side to him which he only shows if he knows the other person won’t take it seriously (so literally basically everyone). Even Lo’ak and Neteyam gave him 9’s. The only reason it’s at a 9.8 is because Kiri gave him a 0.

rotxo: I swear if you ask anyone about him they’d be like ‘Who? Oh the guy that hangs around Ao’nung.’ you would have to give up cause too many people would say “who” or “idk”, poor guy. Ao’nung gave him a 10 but you would ask him last cause of what happened with Tsireya (rigged). He’d get a 7/10 but the only voters were Neteyam, Lo’ak, Kiri, Tsireya and Ao’nung.

tsireya: A 10. But how? Ao’nung is the school’s golden boy and she’s the golden girl, but she’s not cool. Realistically she’d get something like a 2. Like Neteyam, she’s super sweet and kind but she’s not cool. Lo’ak was biased and gave her a 10. But here’s the thing; Ao’nung gave her a 10. So naturally….everyone else gave her a 10.

⌲ D for Diligence (Do they submit their assignments early or late?)

neteyam: Super diligent, he’ll submit any assignment as soon as possible. He never clicks on different browsers when there’s an assignment due by the end of the class + he types really fast like it’s insane (his wpm is 369).

kiri: She is literally UNHINGED. If an assignment is due 6.00pm on a wednesday she’ll submit it at 5.59.59pm on a wednesday. Doesn’t matter when the assignment is due, she’ll always submit it like either a second before or directly on time of when it’s due. If school is closed on the due date (like it’s a saturday or sunday) she’ll submit it on Friday right before that teacher goes home. She knows when they go home. Not even on their desk, It’ll be waiting for them in their bag/car. Unhinged.

lo'ak: Assignment? what assignment? It’s all late. LATE. But not like days late, they’re always max 3 days late. He’s not that irresponsible, sometimes he just forgets. He does care about his grades, he’s trying his best. One time he submitted it like 2 minutes late and sent a whole 10 paragraph email to the teacher begging them to not take points off just this one time. They did, thankfully.

ao'nung: He submits them a day before. He procrastinates a lot but he always manages to get everything done in time. Has never submitted an assignment late before.

rotxo: He too hasn’t ever submitted an assignment late, but he always submits his assignments at the most UNGODLIEST of hours. He would submit it on the day of but at like 3.33am for no reason. His teachers are very concerned about his health.

tsireya: Diligent like Neteyam but very relaxed, she does her assignments on her own time. She’ll submit it like 2-3 days before.

⌲ E for Extracurricular (What clubs/team are they in?)

neteyam: Oddly enough, he’s on the swim team, and he’s a hella good swimmer. I just think it makes sense, like just think about neteyam in the swim team. Just think about it. If not swim then he’d be part of the Student Council, like the secretary or something. Maybe both, who knows.

kiri: 100% a member of debate more than anything. She just loves using her intellect to fight people, and you gotta respect that. She’s also vice president of the student council, being much more intimidating than the actual president.

lo'ak: TRACK TEAM. Boy he can RUN, he’s super nimble on his feet and the coaches consider him a blessing from heaven. He has a really good stamina and great endurance, he could run for hours if he really tried. If you ever anger him by talking crap about his family or Tsireya, find a really good hiding spot because you cannot outrun this man.

ao'nung: Captain of the basketball team. Like come on. He loves basketball, it’s his life and he wants to become a professional athlete. He’s willing to do whatever it takes. Oh and he’s treasurer of the student council, just because the president thought he’d be perfect for the job.

rotxo: Newspaper team. He’s great with words and he’s everywhere like an NPC, making him the perfect guy to take photos of literally anything. He definitely has his own column in the school newspaper where you can ask for advice in his anonymous email and he’ll respond in the newspaper (his fake name is Tory).

tsireya: President of the student council. She knows exactly what the school needs and she provides it, the activities/festivals/events she plans are always the bomb and everyone supports her as the president. She’s super nice and is too afraid to get mad at anyone, so Kiri or Ao’nung will do it for her. She is not afraid to show her disappointment with a sharp glare, however, which would literally destroy the heart of any troublemaker trying to ruin any school festivities.

⌲ F for F#?@!!! (Do they swear at school?)

neteyam: No

kiri: Won’t swear at anyone (except for Ao’nung) but does whisper profanity under her breath if she’s stressed out or something. Constantly pulls the middle finger at her brothers (more often at Lo'ak) and Ao’nung though.

lo'ak: Yes, definitely not around teachers but yes, but he’s started to calm it down after Tsireya confronted him about it.

ao'nung: No

rotxo: Once. He was sitting a test in Economics one day and he yelled “F#?!” out of nowhere, got up from his seat and walked out the door. Ao’nung was confused as hell. Being the good friend he was, he snatched Rotxo’s abandoned paper when the teacher wasn’t looking and finished it for him, with a few different answers from his to avoid suspicion, letting him get a B- rather than an F.

tsireya: No

⌲ G for Girl/Guy Magnet (Do they attract more boys or more ladies?)

neteyam: Definitely the girls, they like him cause he’s the soft stoic type and a gentleman. The girls that aren’t into Ao’nung are definitely into Neteyam. He’s super nice and one time he helped a girl pick up her fallen books. That day she fell in love.

kiri: Both. She’s so chill with it and super sarcastic and funny which definitely earns her points in both departments. The guys enjoy her presence, they think she’s different cause her way of messaging is like a guy which confuses them at first but then they really enjoy texting her for no reason (annoys her to hell tbh), leave the woman alone. But if it was a GIRL texting Kiri, she’d have no problem rizzing them up subtly.

lo'ak: Not a magnet at all. And he wouldn’t have it any other way. He bagged a beautiful, gorgeous, kind, loyal, honest, funny girl and he’s not interested in anyone else.

ao'nung: Both. Be so fr. He’s nice but also likes to tease people, he’s funny and confident and hot. And he works out and he’s smart which is like damn how many blessings did Eywa give him? Both girls and boys adore him a lot and look up to him, but he always lets people down gently.

rotxo: Also not a magnet. It’s not like he’s unattractive or anything, but always sits next to Ao’nung or hangs next to Kiri which ultimately takes the attention completely away from him. But he’s alright with it, he already has someone in mind which he’s already close to.

tsireya: Both. Need I say more? She’s literally a mix of Neteyam and Ao’nung (NOT IN THAT WAY) and she always enjoys taking care of herself and she has an impeccable taste in fashion, earning her extra extra bonus points. She would have received like three dozen love letters by now if it weren’t for her older brother, always making sure she’s safe from stupid boys who might break her heart. He may have forgotten about Lo'ak though, but as long as he doesn't hurt her everything will be fine.

heartbreak high rant - spoilers ahead

let me just start off by saying I absolutely love this show (have watched it twice already) and I cannot wait for season 2.

- this show is one of the rare ocassions where i adore the main character so fucking much - amerie is the main girlie of the main girlies.

- i love malakai and thats besides is charming smile and good looks. i think he's genuinely a very likable character and we also get to see his vulnerable side/insecurities and difficulties and i love that despite everything he's still a good guy.

- don't know if this is deemed unpopular but im my humble opinion dusty and harper were a good couple UNTIL they did what they did to malakai.. i do think they took advantage of him and honestly after that i could not stand to look at them at all.

- harper shouldve also eventually been held accountable for the map.

- i cannot lie and say i have any love for harper (in the beginning she was so annoying and did many fucked up things) but i do feel bad for what she went through with those boys and her father and i am glad she was finally able to open up and rekindle her friendship w amerie.

- spider should have stayed the way they depict him in the last episode cause he was sweet to amerie but I GUESS what happened in amerie's room was a punch at his ego so he started acting like a little bitch baby.

- CASH MY DEAR SWEET CHILD CASH!!! i want no hate towards this man or nothing had to ever happen to him. love him w my entire heart.

- cannot wait for more darren and cash in season 2 and i hope they can communicate more about they want, cash being ace and eachothers feelings.

- FUCK SASHA AND I HOPE QUINNI DOES NOT GIVE HER BITCH ASS ANOTHER CHANCE BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT DESERVE IT.

- i love quinni and daren's friendship so much. they are literally platonic soulmates.

- i feel bad for darren and their family situation - i feel like their parents should be there for them and show them that they care and shower them with the love they deserve!

- BACK TO THIS BITCH DUSTY. I LITERALLY CANNOT STAND HIM AND HIS COMMUNITY DICK HAVING ASS AT ALL.

- we need more of cash's nan in season 2 as well.

- the comedy and comedic timing in this show are golden and i found myself actually laughing as opposed to cringing as i usually do with shows that are geared towards gen z.

- ant i love him and he's funny but he needs better friends! lets get him on the malakai train and he can dump spider.

- OR we can get spider and ant less platonic more romantic iykyk (the scene in the office during the protest).

- for now though, i feel like amerie and malakai should stick to being friends, don't get me wrong i ship them but i think some space is what they need for now.

- MS. JOJO IS THE BEST UGH LOVE HER.

- yes another kickin' it post. i'm making as many as my heart desires. enjoy.

- Rudy Gillespie

+ big anime phase in highschool, specifically dragon ball z and naruto

+ had a HUUGE crush on bobby wasabi in grade school. his dad showed him his first movie, and he was obsessed. he doesn't feel romantically towards him now at all but he still holds him in a higher regard.

+ trans rudy bisexual rudy.

+ ty, lonnie and him have "guys nights", they sometimes invite bobby and phil but only sometimes.

+ the reason why he became a sensei and cares so deeply for his students is because his parents were neglectful, so he's determined to be there for any other kids who need it.

- Jack Brewer

+ definitely had a crush on jerry at a point

+ despite the fiasco in "the commercial," he continued baking and actually got wayyy better

+ he's got a single dad, who does really try but he struggles a lot

+ probably the most mentally unstable. i can't explain it but it's his vibes. (im projecting)

+ he got more into hair and makeup as he got older

+ after julie, he realized he was gay and likes jerry

+ he had a warrior cats phase

+ he helped the rest of them study for all their finals, and he doesn't like to brag, but it's DEFINITELY the only reason why they passed

+ he spends the most time at the dojo, his dad works a lot, so it's just easier for him to stay at the dojo and help out with different classes / help around the mall

ASM ISSUE 30. I HAVE OPINIONS. SIT DOWN.

I told you I was gonna review any issues that are vaguely superior spidey related and that includes this one. And this one was certainly intriguing! Intresting ideas, the issues it has just stem from the entire run itself sooooo

So here we goo- superior spidey (but like the bootleg)

So here's the things I do like:

Superiors memories, or whatever echo of them are in the arms do affect Peter and while it was brief it was pretty fun. I like how Peter's posture shifts to look like Superiors (in like one panel but shhhh)

Otto and Peter (bootleg superior edtion) bickering was kinda fun to see hshdhsh Thats a concept I kinda love hehsh,.z.

The arms try to sacrifice themselves for Peter in one panel. Me when sad character growth,.,. Nice to see them technically working together tho

It's pretty much confirmed now that superior is in those arms, probably just an echo of his memories, but it could also literally be him because of how aware the arms are and that's a bit freaky and now I feel bad

The implications behind whatever was left of superior in the arms trying to literally strangle doc ock, that's harrowing in context but a intresting concept they could use because man is gonna need some SERIOUS therapy when he gets out

Also also I love that the arms punch Norman every chance they get 100% the most superior spiderman thing they would do

Things I'm a bit iffy on:

Kinda weird that everyone still kinda treats the arms as pets. I mean Jameson does at least. I know we don't know for sure how the arms work with like, Doc's memories but if he is like, aware and sentient in there OOO MAN that makes this so much weirder. Free my boy and don't treat him like that

How the fuck does Peter not suspect somethings up with the arms seemingly containing a separate consciousness. Bro hasn't even really investigated them yet

All my other complaints aren't for this issue but rather complaints for the entire Zeb Wells run itself like Doc Ock back to being an evil goofy villain that needs to get beat up again (like can we not, he doesn't need that anymore) and also on a 10x worse note, reminding me that Zeb Wells killed Ms. Marvel for no reason. I know she'll be back alive soon ut she didn't have do die the way she did 4 issues ago and Aughhhh I cannot get into that rn do not start with me

But yeah those things aren't exactly complaints with this issue so YIPPEE MOVING ON

Buddies.,., pals even

Yeah the only other thing I'll mention is what I talked about in my last couple of posts is that I'm a bit worried on how they are bringing superior back into the present without using time travel or clones (because giving the title back to og doc ock seems a bit out of the question cuz hes still evil for some reason ((I'll rant again if I go into that more)) but unfortunately that seems like it's the case rn)

It might not be that big an issue, I'll still read the new series when it comes out, but I'm just really hoping that they do him right. STILL EXCITED FOR OCTOBER THO YIPPEE NEW FOOD AND CONTENT LETS JUST HOPE ITS GOOD <3<3

Also apparently the next issue is gonna have a teaser for the next superior book, so I'll be sure to post about that :]

The spinners Book of yarn designs by Sarah Anderson, book review:

First things first: I SO EFFING LOVE THIS BOOK. BUY IT!!!

Like most books it starts with a nice and tidy chapter overview:

The introduction is just a bit of "what is this book for" a bit of the spinner history of Ms. Anderson, where she got all the ideas and so on.

Chapter 1, Spinning basics

is self-explanatory,

It talks about twist, and controll samples the basics of fiber prepping for spinning (carding , combing, working with dyed fiber) how to choose, what to look for, woolen vs worsted. For a book that is not ment to teach you spinning it's surprisingly detailed (not complaining there is always something to learn in the basics, or to remember)

Chapter 2, singles for plying

How to spin a good single, but So. Much. More!

How to spin a good single, what makes a single good, how thick/thin. Difference between wheels and handspindles. Tips and tricks to spin thin singles on a wheel. AND plying! Like, what kind of plying is out there (chain, bracelet, center pull ball how to trouble shoot etc), how do they behave what to ply together (2ply vs 3ply, and the difference they make in a knitted sample, trouble Shooting)

Chapter 3, stand-alone single

First a general information on how to deal with the different behaving anergy and on felting (some singles need to be felted before using them, but how do I do that)

Peppers through (in ALL chapters) are examples on the yarn and how it looks used (some are knitted, some crocheted and some weaved.)

For every yarn there is a detailed explanation on how to spin them what to look out for and detailed pictures to show the process, that help recreating the yarn

Also look at this cool thing?!?!? Just made with the enegery of the twist! It's plainly knitted, no pattern magic just spinning magic!!!

She also wrote out a very detailed recipe for "sizing" energized yarn. So it stays in form when stored, and after using it and washing the fabric all the energy comes back and makes some unbelievable cool effect (collapsed weave my beloved) how utterly cursed, how utterly beautiful, i want 20

Chapter 4 spiral yarn

In the beginning of this chapter, you have: how the tension shapes the yarn (more tension on the thin single, moderate tension on both, more tension in the fat single) general info on the finished yarn ( it is delicate, and should be used in projects according) also here we have a wonderful example in how the instructions are build

Name of the yarn with a bit of info, the singles you'll need to built it and the direction it is spun and plied (always telling you what fiber got used). And beautiful depiction of yarn and knitting(crocheting/weaving) with the yarn.

In this chapter she also teaches you how to incorporate beads into your yarn in different ways.

Chapter 5, opposing plies

What happens, if instead of 2 S spuns singles plied in Z, you take on S and one Z spun single to ply??? Well, at least 6 different beautiful yarns!

Also one amazing theme through this book, are Ms. Andersons Sock experiments. She takes the same fiber base, spins and plys one sock in basic ply and one in a different way. And then she wears them until the first hole appears to see what yarn construction is more sturdy. Absolutely amazing

Chapter 6, Bouclés

We all know Bouclés, i believe. But who spun them before?

The chapter starts with basic boucle technique 1O1 and takes you on a Wilde ride.

You guys have seen Bouclé in weaving??? I'm madly in love with it

She takes you throu basic bouclé like you know it. Showed differences between fibers, color possiblitys and "spiral bouclé" mixing bouclé with the spiral technique from chapter 4. Which is so insanely beautiful!

It finishes with: shrink bouclé. What happens if you ply a felting single with a not felting single? Spoiler: very cool stuff

Chapter 7, cable yarns

(how beautiful is this combination of color and construction??)

Two 2plys plyed together. Lots of things that could go wrong but if they go right you get a yarn that looks like a chain. How cool is that??? (Extremely) we get a lot of amazing yarns not limited to basic, beaded and dyed. Absolut Chefs kiss 👌

Chapter 8, crepe yarns

Looking forward to these, because I know exactly what fiber to use!

How to describe crepe yarn? That is DIFFICULT, because even if the construction is the same in every yarn, the use of singles and tension makes them absolute unrecognizable! If you get handed two crepe yarns you couldn't tell on the first glance! How is this the same construction method?!?!?

Same build as the other chapters. I want to live in this book. in total 7 crepe yarns that are full of love.

Chapter 9, core yarn

Do you remember the 90' where wrapping colorfully thread around your hair was the shit™?

Yeah, that! But better, because it's yarn! 12 different ways of coils are named in this chapter.

After that follows...

Soft core (this is not an asthetic, well maybe it is, but not in this chapter)

Your basic core spun yarn, in 3 different variations. Explained in detail. What's more to say?

Chapter 10, novelty yarn

Let's combine alle the cool things we learned in previous chapters and add little extras!

You meet an old acquaintance: the knop yarn that is followed by 7 different ways of making pigtail yarn. And then we have: beehives, cocoons, 3 ways of altering the cocoons (+one beaded inspiration) and something that makes my fingers itch with need for colorfull locks: tailspun!

But SO colorfull!

The last yarn we get to know is "squiggle" a yarn with hiccups (or that giggles) either way it's adorable and very cute!

In the End we have a: glossary, Bibliography 👀, some acknowledgments, an index and some Bock recs.

On the VERY end there is a paper pocket with cards for all the yarns?!?!? HELLOOOO?!?!?

General opinion:

I LOVE this book it is the best book on spinning i have read so far detailed without being overwhelming. Also it is impossible to not notice how much care and love were involved. This is truly a book from a spinner to other spinners.

General information on the yarns and techniques are sprinkled between (like the sock experiment and how to work beads into the yarn)

It is well built, the chapters and everything is well sorted.

All in all, a loveletter to yarn.

Cons: i can't touch the samples. And that is TERRIBLE. Also i want to spinn all the yarns right now in an instant, but i don't have enough fiber, money, or time. A crime!!! Just Mean!!!

My tip: BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE IT!!!

Something about this song just screams 'Robaire' to me. The mix of slow jam sensuality and jaw-dropping vocals is so on brand for him.

So, I personally hc Jesse as being an ex member of the alternative rock scene. He went through many phases, but his grunge/punk time was one for the books. And like any good punk rocker, he still loves Green Day.

The chilled, mellowness of this song is reminds me of him, too. That and the lyricism, the theme of leaving a romantic interest in the past. I feel like he'd have related to this song with the mom of his kids. He'd definitely have had some long drives blasting this song, screaming out the lyrics as the melody builds.

My God, this song is T to a T. The Latin American flavour, the garbled Spanish in the intro, the upbeat playfulness. It's all him.

Plus, we know T is a supportive friend and S/O. He has a positive outlook on life, and he definitely passes that on to his loved ones. Bolstering them up to take on life's challenges while waiting in the wings to support them through it all.

I won't lie, this song gave me inspiration to do this post in the first place. Something about it reminds me of Z. Maybe it's the purple aesthetic, the sombre beats, the whole vibe of giving no f*cks. I don't know, it's all just very Z.

Plus, I feel like he's a night owl. Finding peace in that time of the night when everyone else is asleep and he can let his imagination run wild. Part of him comes alive at that magical midnight hour, and that's what this song is all about to me.

✨Bonus ✨; In the modern AU, I hc Z as having a fat secret crush on Ms Swift. T's definitely planning an embarrassing encounter between them at some point.

Buuuuut, I genuinely feel like this song is so Tae. It's all about discovering yourself through supporting those you love most. As I hc Tae as bisexual, and we all know he's the youngest, he's still growing into himself. But he has so much love to give, and the members and 4 Townies see that.

Also, this song is super rogue but honestly such a bop. It's catchy and a lil feisty, and we know that Tae isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

i would say some of my top picks of the Y2K are:

1. JUICY COUTURE VELOUR TRACKSUITS

you can call me whatever derogatory term you want for this, but i am a fiend for the JC original tracksuits. i still have one in my wardrobe and it is INCREDIBLY low waisted. i don't LOVE the diamantes, but i will live with them for the velour style. ALSO they are coming back in fashion so...who is the real winner, bitches?

2. THE NAPSTER/LIMEWIRE/TORRENTING PIPELINE

now i would obviously never advocate for stealing music or movies (YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A CAR!?) but one hallmark of the Y2K was accidentally downloading 30948203489 pornographic viruses onto your shared home computer and at least 5 copies of "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". No? Just me?

3. SPORTS MOVIES WITH FEMALE LEADS

Bring It On! Stick It! She's The Man! Blue Crush! Bend It Like Beckham! Million Dollar Baby (too serious for me, didn't actually vibe that one as much but it deserves to be here). Who doesn't wanna see girls run the world??? Who doesn't wanna run outside to their backyard and almost break their neck trying to do gymnastic moves they see on TV? Who doesn't beg their parents to let them get a spring free trampoline to avoid inevitable further injuries??

4. EARLY 2000s RAP MUSIC

In Da Club, Drop it Like it's Hot, P.I.M.P, Hot in Herre, Get Ur Freak On, Get Low, Lose Yourself, Ms Jackson, The Way I Am, Hey Ya the LIST GOES ON. Eminem, Jay-Z, Nelly, 50, The Game, Missy, Snoop, Eve, the Black Eyed Peas, Outkast were making phenomenal music, hell, even Lil Wayne even though he went on some weird rides there for a while.

5. DESPITE SOME PROBLEMATIC TAKES - 2000s TV

The OC, Entourage, the original season of Underbelly (Aus), 24, NCIS, Dexter, Gossip Girl, Veronica Mars (my beloved), TVD etc etc the list goes on there was some ICONIC TV going around. TV that my very religious parents would never let me watch so I used to go around to all my classmates in year 7 and scab TV shows one USB stick at a time (since flash drives were obscenely small back in the day) and watch under my duvet at night like it was a porno. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I'm not sure which you sorted earlier, so if you sorted the show already, ignore me.

Also, take your time with this ask, if you do it at all. It's a lot and more than is fair to ask you , I just had some ideas that may be interesting to analyse so I wanted to give them to you. However, do not tire yourself out, overwork, be overwhelmed or stress. This are just ideas, not even suggestions or requests. Just do whatever you both want to and can, whenever you can and want to and IF you want to and can.

I am totally planning to sort Raya, Moana, and Frozen when I get there in my Disney Ladies sorting series... but I'm not totally sure when that would be.

I do think Doyle!Sherlock Holmes is a Badger Snake (I'm willing to entertain the possibility that he's a particularly chaotic rapid-fire bird, but I do think Snake is more likely.) Either way, he models a 'I play the game for the game's own sake' Bird primary over the top, and built himself a data-collecting Bird secondary, and possibly an Actor Bird as well, although a lot of that is Snake shifting.

Elementary!Sherlock Holmes actually is a Double Bird, and falls in queer-platonic love with Watson because she Helps With His Work. Honestly in order to make the show's premise work as well as it does you have to shift Holmes in a more Bird Primary direction, because Badger primary Holmes would would not have made the shift away from his beloved London nearly as easily. And Elementary!Holmes is much more of a I-Know-A-Guy Bird secondary than the others, which is charming.

Sherlock!Sherlock Holmes is a morally bored burnt Snake primary who starts to latch onto people like Watson and Mrs Hudson (Irene, Mycroft, and even Lestrade to a degree) and the moral choices he makes revolve around them. The nicer explanation is that he's SO used to working alone that he's bad at letting these guys in on his plans, which leads to a lot of miscommunication. The less-nice explanation is that he's still young, and still unBurning, and still pretty selfish. Sherlock's "Mind Palace" Bird secondary honestly seems consciously constructed to me, in the same way that Doyle!Holmes' bird secondary is. (He's also got sort of a mind palace in the books, although he calls it a "brain attic," which is adorable.) So I suspect there might be a Snake secondary underneath there for Sherlock as WELL... but I also couldn't say for sure. It'd be a whole lot easier if we actually knew *how* he faked his death. The later seasons especially really don't like to engage with the specifics of HOW Sherlock Holmes does anything, being entirely focused on WHY.
