Hello! I hope you are having a great day! I just happened across your story, and I was absolutely blown away by the detailing and just everything (OMG it was so perfect) If you don't mind, can you please tell me how long it took you to set up and shoot scene 14? From the building to the posing and then editing?

this is so incredibly sweet !!!! thank you for taking the time to send such a kind note. 💓💓💓💓💓💓 like, i know people read it, but 😭 i’m touched ! anyway, it’s impossible for me to answer questions with simplicity, so ... i apologize for the wall of text:

this scene was a little different than the usual. i built the room a long time ago (like last year), since it’s essentially fernando’s work office, and i’ve used it for another scene. however, i would say decorating a room like this one probably takes me ... half an hour? maybe an hour, if i have to close the game and go download more clutter for it. i’ve mentioned before, but most of my sets are box rooms, not actually part of a larger cohesive structure. this one, actually, is part of a building ! i didn’t build it, tho; it was a lot i got from the gallery. y’all will never see the exterior of it because ... it’s not the exterior i use for nakawe palace, lmao. i don’t think building sets for stories has to be as complicated as i make it, but this is what i’ve chosen !!!!!

for the posing, i can’t totally recall ... i want to say in the ballpark of 15 minutes? i rarely make my own poses, so that saves a ton of time. the more heated arguing is from a single pose pack; everything else is the result of me clicking through random poses and using the tool mod to make it look right. i honestly spend the most time rotating sims back and forth by 5-10-15 degree increments to get the correct visual effect sdjkfksgs

editing ! once i’ve adjusted the in-game lighting to my liking, reshade (now gshade) does the heavy lifting for me. in photoshop, i have an action set that i like to use—it just makes everything richer and more dramatic. i slap on a black and white filter because the preset i use is slightly more sepia, then another layer to brighten things up. this takes ... <15 minutes, since the most time consuming part is clicking through screenshots.

i actually let this post sit in my drafts for a few weeks before i went back to write the dialogue and such. i was a little afraid of it, lmao, because this is a pivotal scene and also a shouting argument (which is, for me, harder to write). the dialogue probably took like 20 minutes? including revising? the two paragraphs i attached took perhaps ... 15 minutes when i drafted it the other week, then another 15 minutes when i edited yesterday. i have to budget 5 minutes for the absolute misery of rereading my rough drafts dfjkldfhdkg

TLDR; SO LIKE THE ANSWER IS ... perhaps an hour and a half, spread across several weeks? i usually do my scenes in one go, but not the ones i’m posting as of late.

my official, uninterrupted, unapologetic thoughts on the album Lover by Taylor Swift as i listen in its entirety at 6:30 am on Friday morning after working until 10 pm the night before.

Before I start I am already emotional. my hands are sweating. my heart is pounding. are those tears in my eyes or am i exhausted? idk. ok here we go...

1) fuck yes. snaps. love a song with snaps. A BEAUTIFUL BREAKUP SONG ABOUT HOW YOU JUST DONT EFING CARE ANYMORE. ahhh i love how there is like this build up and you think it’s going to be a headbanger of a chorus but then it just stops and it’s like...oh wait actually this is v calm right now i just dont care about you anymore. but also OMG SHE JUST LAUGHED ummm also I love how upbeat this is. i guess what im saying is that WANEGBT walked so I Forgot That You Existed could run.

2) MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. this song will always bring me back to being on an airplane flying to Peru because it is literally the only song I listened for my entire trip to Peru last spring. but also from the moment it came out I was obsessed with the unapologetic happiness in the song and it’s all about YOURSELF. WAIT WTF WHERE’S THE SPELLING LINE THATS MY FAVORITE TO YELL????? TAYLOR WHERE IS IT??? WHERE IS IT??? i’ll be taking this up with my lawyers. your people will hear from my people.

3) well i just went back to my spotify and REALIZED THAT IT WAS ON FUCKING SHUFFLE FUCK ME. OK WE ARE STARTING AGAIN.

1) SECOND LISTEN THOUGHTS ON IFTYE: this song is just the perfect beat. i just realized that she laughs TWICE actually (maybe more??) and this is my official petition that she laughs during all live performances. thanks.

2) OMG REP VIBES WITH THAT LOW BASE SYNTH. oh wow I love this transition much more than the one to ME! I’m glad that was on shuffle the first time. This literally could be a REP song. GETAWAY CAR THAT’S WHAT IT REMINDS ME OF! OH. MY. GOD. WELL THANKS FOR PUTTING A REP SONG ON LOVER OK IM NOT OK. did she just say “loving you aint the worst thing...you are the worst!”? Idk I will evaluate the lyrics a second (third...fourth...fifth...) time.

3) AHHHH LOVER OMG OK LET ME JUST STARE AT MY CEILING FOR THIS ONE. “Swear to take this magnetic force of a man” is up there on favorite tswift lines. cant decide if i want this to my first dance song at my wedding OR the song that plays near the end of the reception when everyone is tired and like all the couples come up and dance and so then it’s like you get to see how many people are in love OR the song that i save for afterwards when we are alone in our hotel room. good to know i’ve got options.

4) god damn HERE WE GO WITH SOME REP VIBES. (to clarify any deep base pulsating beat is rep vibes to me apparently) lyrics: “they’d say I played the field before I found someone to commit to” “every conquest I had made would make me more of a boss to you” “they wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve” “I’D BE JUST LIKE LEO” GOD THIS IS AMAZING I’M OBSESSED. “If I was a man I’d be THE MAN”

5) OMG THE ARCHER. WAS LISTENING TO THIS LAST NIGHT AND THINKING LIKE....THIS MIGHT BE FAVORITE ONE????? I KNOW SO SO EARLY BUT SO FAR IT HOLDS UP IT’S JUST LIKE....THAT SLOW BUILD I LOVE IT. EVERY TIME I LISTEN THERE IS A DIFFERENT MEANING. AMAZING SONG TO RUN TO LIKE ON REPEAT. WHICH IS HARD TO FIND. PROBABLY HARDER TO MAKE. I STAN.

6) THERE YA GO MISS SWIFT WITH THE SNAPS AGAIN. ohhh hmmmm someone’s horneyyyyy this song feels like a whisper...like you’re at a bar and you are like pointing out this hot guy you’ve been seeing around and you whisper to your friend ‘that’s the one’. OMG BRIDGE. WAIT WHAT OMG WAIT OMG WHAT BRIDGE BRIDGE BRIDGEEEEEE. well okay I kinda feel like a huge wind just knocked me off my feet. i’m slightly stunned. no time to process before...

7) OMG TALK ABOUT REP VIBES. This could be a beautiful music video. This is like -- i have a lot of feelings none of them have words but this song has a BLACK vibe and a DARK vibe and i’m picturing a high school shrouded in clouds at night. running through the hallways in a ripped dress. Wow wow wow.

8) oh good some happy songs again. ahhhhhhhhh now THIS I CAN DANCE TO. AHHHHHHHHHHH I’M IN LOOVE. this is so freaking romantic. OH ANOTHER BRIDGE FROM BRIDGE CITY. Taylor like you brought it with these bridges girl. OMG THE SLOW FADE AWAY AT THE END...SOBBING.....

9) THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS IS I’M ONLY HALFWAY DONE. Oh wow is this song going to make me cry? just obsessed with how etherial this is. wow omg this is like the most complex love story ever written in a song ever. so many twists and turns i’m just sitting here asking questions!!! What happened on cornelia street that you dont want it again? why did you pack your bags? OH YAY HE GOT YOU TO COME BACK. OMG DOES EVERYONE HEAR THAT THUNDER EFFECT IN THE BACKGROUND???? omg wait omg that last line!? I will be listening to this A LOT.

10) I feel like taylor’s got a lot of happy sounding songs that are breakup songs and a lot of sad sounding songs that are actually about being in love on this album it’s so interesting!!! like this is a breakup song and wow everything about it is upbeat and pop-y. “trying to find a part of me you didn’t take up” (I FEEL THIS SO HARD WOW). love the boarded up house metaphors and like just everything else i CANT THINK FAST ENOUGH god idk why I committed to writing all my thoughts....

11) OMG SOMEONE WAS TALKING. ahhhhh she loves all these American things but she LOVES A LONDON BOY. “I GUESS ALL THE RUMORS ARE TRUE” power move!!!!! ASLDJALKDFLKJAGL;KADSLASDFLKASDFLKJ AS SOMEONE WHO LIVED IN AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE CITY OF LONDON I’M JUST LOVING THAT THIS IS BASICALLY A LOVE SONG TO LONDON. FORGET THE BOY. ALL THESE LONDON REFERENCES ARE KILLING ME. (did she just name drop stella mccartney???? I HEARD THAT OKAY!?)

12) DIXIE CHICKS. IT’S A COUNTRY SONG I CAN ALREADY TELL. THE STRUMMING GUITAR. I’M DYING. wait is this about her mom???? ok well i’m crying.........wow so so so so so beautiful and soft and hopeful.

13) FIDDLEEEEEEEE oh short lived but omg that was exciting for a moment i thought we were gunna get a crazy country song. This is a good transition....the way this song starts soft and slow and doesn’t come in swinging feels appropriate after Soon You’ll Get Better. WOW. “Religion is your lips....the alter is my hips....” SEX. I’m glad this is not a country song. wow my head was in an odd place that will be weird to come back to after knowing what this song actually is about (it’s about sex)

14) YAS YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN. (it’s 7:40 am but we could have had greatnesssss) THIS SONG SERIOUSLY SLAPS. GOD I LOVE IT SO MUCH. also true story - for like the first week after it came out I SWEAR I thought there was a lyric at some point that said “you’re freaking me out” and like I still think that one of the lyrics SHOULD be that so like I know I’m not a seven time Grammy award winging singer/song writer but like taylor can we change that? can we? MY ONLY COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS SONG IS THAT IT NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES LONGER.

15) ahhhhhhh omg shes like learning about holding onto love and not picking fights and growing through difficulty and not blowing up. (I’ve run out of ways to say omg this is amazing and i’m obsessed). but this is like a GREAT ballad.

16) BACK TO MEEEEEEEE I like it a lot better here phew thank god we were on shuffle before. I wanted the DJ to play this song at my friend’s wedding back in May (OMG NO MORE SPELLING LINE AHHHH) and they like wouldn’t??? so weird. I honestly think this is a self love song but also an amazing romantic love song and I think it belongs in a wedding playlist.

17) omg so cute...little best friend love. also i love how simple this song is. no big production. we are back to basics and child hood. AHH HORNS. I thought this song was going to be like TIWWCHNT but its just purely wholesome!!! She’s serious - it’s nice to have a friend! I agree!

18) LAST SONG AND ITS ALMOST FIVE MIN LONG MY BODY IS READY. This is just classic classic taylor swift and an amazing way to end the album. it’s like the conclusion paragraph of an essay on how she’s happy and content and in love with not just her lover but herself. the world used to be harsh, but now it’s just daylight. (another bridge city - just fyi - for those listening at home that’s where you are now) SHE IS SO HAPPY. “Step into the daylight and let it go” OMG SHES TALKING!!!!! WHERE IS THIS FROM??? IS THIS AN INTERVIEW OR IS IT NEW OMG WAIT WASN’T EXPECTING THAT ENDING WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW

What website is it easy to spend too much time on? Reddit. I’m pretty easy to please - I just go through the Popular tag and I can stay scrolling for a straight hour. What's been bothering you lately? This one class with the horrible instructor I’ve been ranting about in my last few surveys. It’s 12:54 AM and I do NOT want to be thinking about it rn. Do you ever get cravings for cheese? Never. My stomach doesn’t go loco for cheese so I don’t actively look for it. Do you ever crave affection? All the time, but just with my girlfriend. I don’t like being affectionate with other people, like leaning on their shoulders for too long. Would you name your baby after someone or give him/her his or her own name? For a boy, I’m planning the name Owen at least as a second name, as a tribute to Owen Hart. For a daughter, I don’t really have solid plans yet...probably Ava (for Ava Gardner) and Audrey (for Audrey Hepburn).

What qualifies as ‘true?’ Do you think someone's value is based on how much money they have or make? Not at allllll. There are so many billionaires who are also the biggest assholes. I think I would, but it would honestly worry me a lot. I’d want that child to get the best care 24/7 and I know I’d never want to leave them behind. Honestly every guy groupmate I’ve had have been useless and lazy. It’s very easy to tell if they simply got an entire paragraph from a website. If someone tried to murder your child, do you think it would be wrong to expose them publicly and talk about it on social media? No. I say expose them. It’s so much easier and quicker to get things done that way. Why do you think people think this is wrong? They could argue that it’s not the proper venue and that authorities should be addressed first before anyone else knows, but I’m honestly all for shaming the suspect and making sure the story makes the rounds. Probably the journalist in me. Is there a toxic person that you miss? OMG no never. Good riddance!!! Are you still contemplating going back to someone you shouldn't? You were resting your chin on your palm, staring at Sungjin, your crush of almost a year now, playing with his pencil while paying attention to your teacher, unlike you.

You grinned when you imagined him being your boyfriend. Would he hug you and give you soft kisses? It would melt you if he called your name with his rough soothing voice.

"Kim Nara . Kim Nara . Kim Nara?!".

You were startled when your tablemate, Wonpil nudged you softly. You woke up from your daydream and froze when you realised you were making eye contact with Sungjin. You blinked and gulped before facing forward. Your teacher was resisting a chuckle. He smirked and asked you to read the next paragraph.

"B--But Mr Byun? I don't know how to pronounce some words,". You stuttered, trying to save yourself from embarrassing your already embarrassed ass in front of the whole class.

Your teacher gave an encouraging smile and shook his head. "It's okay Nara, you can just try and learn from your mistakes.".

English class, which was your last class for the day , finally ended. You were quickly packing your bag to meet your bestfriend for an ice cream date when your teacher suddenly called.

"Kim Nara and Park Sungjin, please stay back for a while. ".

You groaned and felt a little nervous because Sungjin was called too. You were still embarrassed knowing that he probably caught you staring at him . The both of you sat on the front seats, waiting for the rest to leave the classroom. You smiled awkwardly at Sungjin when he glanced at you. He gave you a small smile and a nod before facing your teacher.

"Ok Nara, I've been thinking about this for a long time and I think it is a good idea for Sungjin to tutor you English. ". Mr Byun stated.

You almost choked on your own saliva and looked at your teacher with wide eyes. "But, Baekhyun Oppa! I mean, Mr Byun! Can't Jae or Mark or Lisa tutor me instead? "

Your teacher hid a smirk and shook his head. "Sungjin is actually one of the top students in English class and the others are too playful. Sungjin is the best option. I hope the both of you can sort this out and plan out your tuitions properly so that you,Nara, can improve your English before final-year exams,".

You stomped your way out of school towards your bestfriend, Dowoon, who had been waiting for you for the past 10 minutes. He raised an eyebrow and wanted to ask you what happened but he stopped when he saw your 'don't ask me' face. He chuckled and messed your hair playfully before dragging you to your favourite ice cream shop .

"Ok so Baekhyun Oppa actually knows that I have a HUGE crush on Sungjin. He did it on purpose. revenge for me not paying attention in class. Ah Dowoon, help meeeee,".

Dowoon chuckled at your story and patted your head. "Hey babe, look at the bright side. You get to improve your English, and you get to spend time with your crush!".

You hit his arm for teasing you and pouted before stuffing your face with chocolate ice cream. "What do I do , Dowoon? I can't control myself if we study together.".

"You'll just have to deal with it, I guess?". Dowoon questioned. "Thanks a lot for the comfort-.- " You said sarcastically. Dowoon grinned and winked. "What are bestfriends for right?".

So today was your first tuition with Sungjin. You guys decided to study at the cafe near school. The cafe where Dowoon worked at. The both of you settled your things and decided to order some drinks before starting.

The two of you were quite awkward at first but after talking a bit and Sungjin taught you some basic grammar, it was actually comfortable being around each other. After revising some of the topics, you two took a short break to freshen up yourselves with the drinks. Sungjin cleared his throat, gaining your attention.

"I'm actually curious about something,". He started. *Please dont ask why i stared at you* You thought as you gave him a forced smile.

"Are you close with Mr Byun? I mean, you called him Baekhyun oppa, and is not really afraid of him as a teacher.". He asked slowly.

You sighed in relief inwardly before chuckling.

"He is actually my brother's friend and he used to be my neighbour when we were little so yeah, kind of like grew up together. We're kind of close,". You replied. He nodded in understandment and decided to continue the tuition.

After about an hour and a half, you guys decided to end the session and finished up your drinks. Dowoon suddenly came to your table, still in his apron. He ruffled your hair gently to attract your attention.

"Hey babe, I don't I can go back with you today. I have to cover for my co-worker.". He said sadly.

You rolled your eyes and pouted. "Is is that Chenle kid again?". Dowoon chuckled and nodded.

His eyes shifted to Sungjin who was awkwardly watching your interaction at the side. Dowoon smiled widely and looked back at you and back to Sungjin.

"Hey Sungjin! If you don't mind, can you walk Nara home? It's starting to get dark and this baby is scared of the dark,".

You slapped his arm for exposing you and slightly blushed as Sungjin nodded. "Oh I can walk her home no worries,".

Dowoon held your hands and whispered a 'good luck' before pecking your knuckles.

The two of you were walking side by side in silence. "Isn't it nice having a boyfriend that trusts you with other boys?". Sungjin started.

You looked at him with a frown and shook your head. "What? I don't have a boy-- oh you mean Dowoon? omg that is a never situation!". You exclaimed and laughed.

Sungjin tilted his head in confusion. "We are childhood friends, we grew up together. My mom used to babysit him so he is already like a baby brother to me. I would never date him. Besides he already has a girl that he likes.".

Sungjin's mouth turned into an O . His ears turned red as he was embarrassed. You chuckled and sighed. "I have someone that I like too but I don't know if he likes me too,".

Before Sungjin could reply you, the two of you arrived in front of your house. You quickly waved him goodbye and ran inside your house to avoid the topic. You thought it was stupid for you to bring it up especially in front of the boy that you like.

After months of studying, exams finally came and went by quickly . It was finally results day. You were nervous mostly for English. Throughout the tuitions, you tried to focus on improving your language though there were some moments where you just stared at him while he explained to you.

You went to the results board and squeled when you saw your results. You looked around and saw Sungjin walking towards the board. You ran towards him and screamed his name, making him stop in his tracks. He smiled and breathed out an oof when you attacked him with a hug. You wrapped your arms around his neck and jumped happily. "I got a B for English! thank you thank you thank you so much!". Sungjin froze at your sudden action and without realising it, he wrapped his arms around your waist and hugged you back. "Congratulations,". He whispered.

You chuckled and froze when you realised you were hugging him. You quickly pulled away and cleared your throat.

"I--I should treat you to ice cream later after school. As a thank you gift!". You stuttered but tried to keep calm and cool.

Sungjin's ears were red as he nodded as a yes.

School finally ended. You told Dowoon about your plan with Sungjin. He was a bit sad for not being able to celebrate with you but he also had work so he didn't really mind. You went up to Sungjin who was talking to Wonpil.

"Yo Wonpil! Congrats on not getting last place!". You teased.

Wonpil pouted and pinched your cheeks. "Hey! I'm way smarter than you !". He defended. You chuckled and slapped his hands away before locking him into a headlock. You ruffled his hair and teased again. "Kim Wonpil pabo!".

Wonpil struggled his way out of your arms and headlocked you as a revenge. "You're a pabo too!". The both of you laughed at your silly interaction. He let go of you and patted your hair to fix it. You grinned and patted his hair too. The both of you turned to the side when Sungjin cleared his throat.

"Are we still going to get ice cream?" He asked, eyes not focusing on you. Wonpil's eyes brightened when he heard ice cream. He was about to invite himself when you closed his mouth. "No you can't follow because I am treating him for tutoring me,".

Wonpil's shoulders dropped in disappointment. You chuckled and patted his cheeks. "Next time, okay?". He nodded sadly and waved the two of you goodbye before running to his friend, Brian.

You treated him ice cream at your favourite ice cream shop. After buying ice cream cones for the both of you, Sungjin insisted on walking you home.

On the way home, Sungjin started the conversation with a hum. "You seem close to Wonpil.". You licked your ice cream and nodded. "He is a great tablemate and a good friend. I mean, of course you know that, you're his friend right?". Sungjin chuckled and nodded.

Sungjin suddenly stopped in his tracks and faced his whole body towards you. He had finished his cone a few seconds ago while you still had half of yours.

You stopped and blinked in confusion. The road was empty, only the two of you. Sungjin cleared his throat and looked everywhere except you. You frowned and bit your cone before asking if he was okay.

Sungjin stepped forward and finally got the courage to look into your eyes. You froze at his sudden stare and forgot about your ice cream.

"Nara, look, I've liked you since the first day of school where you defended yourself from the teacher that accused you of things for coming late on the first day of school. I started admiring you from a far and without realising it I started developing feelings for you. The day Mr Byun asked me to tutor you, I caught you staring at me. I thought you liked me too but after seeing you interact with other guys, I lost the confidence . I was quite jealous because you were comfortable with Mr Byun and Dowoon. And earlier, with Wonpil. I like you Nara.". He finally confessed.

You blinked in shocked. He smiled sadly, thinking that you were going to reject him. You quickly composed yourself and said it. "I like you too Sungjin.".

Sungjin was shocked at your answer and happy too. He pulled you into a hug and whispered a thank you. He then carressed your face and stared into your dark brown orbs. You smiled at his sudden cheesy actions and can't help but drop your gaze to his pink lips. He saw your eyes and his ears instantly turned red. You then leaned in before capturing his lips with yours. You were feeling all giddy inside. *He is such a good kisser* you thought and blushed . You licked his lips and hummed when you could still taste the flavour of the ice cream he ate earlier. Sweet sweet ice cream just like this kiss. *ICE CREAM!*. you screamed in your mind before quickly pulling away, earning a groan from Sungjin.

"Omg. I forgot."You said slowly as you stepped backwards. Your ice cream had melted and your cone was crushed in between the both of you. Your uniforms were now patterned with pink ice cream. He chuckled at your clumsiness and closed the gap between the both of you. "screw it,". he whispered before wrapping his arms around your waist and crashed his lips onto yours. You wrapped your arms around his neck and played with his hair. He pulled away and pecked your cheek.

"Will you be my girlfriend?". He asked.

You laughed and slapped his chest playfully.

"After taking my first kiss? of course dummy!".

He chuckled and pecked your forehead before hugging you again, totally ignoring your dirty uniforms.

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

Third person limited is my favorite pov, and Makoto’s REALLY hard for me to write. It was also interesting to have a character with a vague basis, but a lot of room to write around. This Is My OC, Eiko,

2: What scene did you first put down?

I definitely wrote this v chronologically, though I think I started more solidly with “THIS SUCKS” rather than the actual first paragraph

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

Eiko can feel some bitterness tug at her, something caustic and vicious that wants to rub that manipulative shit in Makoto’s not-so-perfect face and clutch at whatever can make the super honor student feel as awful as possible, but Eiko takes a breath, and pushes it down, because… it was kinda weird for her to go from ‘he’s not my boyfriend’! to ‘let’s go on a double date!’

I actually love writing resentment that gets acknowledged and consciously pushed aside. Love those Gross Feelings and making the conscious choice not to act on them.

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

Oh actually looking back I like a lot of exchanges. ‘Special enough to slap’ was good, and I basically wrote the entire fic for 'seriously I’m gonna slap you someday’, and 'HOW WAS YOUR DAY’ is hilarious to me, personally, BUT I’m gonna highlight:

“I can’t believe I fell for it! You two had like, no chemistry! If that’s what you think dating’s like, you really would flunk a test on love!”

“But you did think we were dating,” Makoto points out, “so I don’t think that’s quite accurate.”

Because one of my pals (liz) was talking about HOW ANNOYED Makoto was with the 'flunk a test on love’ line and how it might’ve been the reason she specifically went for fake dating (contrived atlus writing aside). So Makoto going out of her way to be like “actually,” in the middle of this whole dramatic friendship reconciliation was me laughin about that.

5: What part was hardest to write?

I had a hard time with the last scene! Literally everything about Haru is hard to write! Even when she’s not even there!

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

I really honestly wanted something like '4 times eiko didn’t slap makoto and the one time she did’ but I couldn’t think of enough scenarios why Makoto would actually call Eiko up for a slap. Plus, too many scenes for the setup.

11: What do you like best about this fic?

I legit love this friendship. It’s so funny. Eiko can be an energetic character, and since she’s such a Normal Teen Girl compared to Makoto I thought it was funny to write Makoto just kind of accepting stuff that maybe isn’t that Normal Teen Girl. Like making a life goal to slap your best friend.

12: What do you like least about this fic?

I deffo think my Makoto characterization isn’t as strong as it could be. If you’re talkin process wise tho it was…. difficult to write dialogue with A Straight Teen Girl Who Knows How To Have Fun. Extremely unrelateable. I saved dialogue references to my phobe. I couldn’t figure out how to write out OMG in a satisfying way.

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?

(Captive Prince Trilogy) Prince’s Gambit Liveblogging (Chapters 1 & 2)

Time to start the second book in my Captive Prince liveblog! This was sort of delayed because I was trying to read the extra chapter at the end of book 1, couldn’t get more than a page or two in, and kept putting it off. Then I got busy. I skipped it for now.

And, looking back, I completely missed the fact that all three books have a different crest on them lol...First book was a lion, second is...actually, I have no clue what it is, something with tassels. The third has something like a crown with two griffons.

Chapter 1

Yay, finally leaving the castle! I’m guessing this is where the story really picks up.

Damen’s analyzing mind, always relating things around him to what he knows (military stuff) is quite pleasant to read through for some reason. And considering we finally get a change of scenery, I can feel some of his relief at finally getting out of that castle (though he is not exactly free, we are, for a good while it seems).

lol wait the dogs like Laurent. Are very happy to see him, in fact. I guess he does get out of the main city every now and again, this keep isn’t too far away.

“...but, not being an owl, saw almost nothing.” lol sometimes I have to sit back and wonder, because this is in third person but clearly expressing all of Damen’s thoughts so like. Yes, he actually thinks this as he’s trying to look at his own back.

The better it heals, the less your back will trouble you with stiffness, both now and later in life, so that you will be better able to swing a sword around, killing a great many people.

lol you can just feel the deadpan tone and unimpressed attitude and sort of contempt for the business of killing.

All this tender care of his back, like soothing with a kiss the reddened cheek you have slapped.

Once again, I appreciate that Damen can clearly see through these actions, unlike a lot of ‘held captive by the enemy’ stories, he knows full well that these acts of kindness really aren’t done out of the goodness of the other party’s heart. He’ll go along with it, because he must, but doesn’t mistaken it for affection or care, he may be attracted to Laurent physically but for the time being that’s all it is.

Of course, that makes the transition to actual romance a little rocky but...I guess I’ll have to be patient.

I like this Paschal guy. The things he says are sort of lowkey really great.

omg the trash talk is starting again. trash talk is great too.

Damen...

You noticed things like his pretty mouth, even dripping with nosebleed.

Ew. Damen is, like, attracted to pretty people easily and it is hilarious how easily he/the narrative gets distracted when one shows up. Also, I recall he liked to sleep with guys who won brawls so like, this is the perfect combination for him I guess? To each their own...

Ah, here it is. What I’ve been waiting for.

The first real glimpse of what sort of person Laurent appears to people other than Damen. Damen is obviously biased, so we’ve had nothing to go off except Damen’s thoughts and Laurent’s actions, and since Laurent isn’t exactly the most honest straightforward character, it was hard to tell in the last book what he really was like.

I really like this scene, I won’t go quoting the whole thing, but I really like the whole exchange (Aimeric is, like, a character I can maybe get behind and not be like ‘you’re such a little shit I guess you are also endearing but a shit nonetheless’ or Erasmus, who is in a class of his own (that short story on him did not help, ok, I couldn’t finish it, it’s too depressing).

Ha. Damen is still more intimidated by keeping Laurent waiting than he is Govart, that dude I fear we will not be rid of for quite a while.

Ugh, as good as it’s written, the sort of constant trash talk about Laurent and sex is really uncomfortable at times.

I feel like the ensuing conversation when Laurent returns at night is probably the only way it could have gone after the debacle that happened at the end of the last book.

I also feel as if they are starting to be a little more honest with each other, here. Just a little. They need to, in order to move on and sort of cooperate on this campaign.

Chapter 2

Have I mentioned I like gallows humor and find it hilarious that somehow everyone, even Laurent’s own men, seem to be on the same page about him and the no sex and being made of ice? Yeah, well, the latter is getting quite Not Okay now. Maybe because they are getting more vulgar and gross, but I’m on the same page as Damen now. The narrative seems to have succeeded in that respect.

Oh, the snake comparisons are back! I do like how creative the insults are, truly.

But Laurent actually relaxing a bit, wow, we are finally seeing that. I like the subtle (actually not subtle at all given how Damen devotes a paragraph of thought to the image of him relaxing a bit) reminder that hey, he’s just a man. Human. Not, you know, a demon prince or something.

Although he goes and pulls an all-nighter, and is ready to go in the morning. So, not helping that image, but still.

...whatever cold bitchy remarks he had made - sharpened by a night without sleep - had been enough to eject the Regent’s men out of their beds and into a semblance of lines.

I think I have no choice but to say I relate to this on a spiritual level because I, too, do not get enough sleep and subsequently am horribly grumpy and terrible to deal with in the morning. I’m trying to stop, because I really do act bitchy without enough sleep (which is like every morning) but staying up late has become a really bad habit. urgh

Damen is so prepared for this fight waiting to happen. In the meantime, he’s trying to play peacemaker.

“Getting massaged.” omg I missed you and your remarks Damen, it’s been too long (when did I finish the last book? two weeks ago maybe)

This tent is so fancy what the heck haha.

Ooh fight scene! Not the one Damen is looking out for, but.

It’s only been a month since this whole thing started? Geez, feels like longer...

They are being more honest in this book. I mean, Laurent admitted Damen was better than him at swordplay, and he sort of blushed (and how good is he at shoving his emotions down, like can you even suppress being flustered).

JUST SOME FRIENDLY ADVICE HAHA did you really think he willingly did drugs before a fight or

Bailleux Keep: a broken-down structure with a fancy name = ‘fancy’ how I feel about most French words, honestly. I just. am not good at pronouncing things so French is like a nightmare to me.

Ah, Damen, you are actually quite good at this military leader thing. And, nice exchange just before the end of the chapter.

I really wanted to read more but ahaha need to pace myself.
