Tis the season for anatomically incorrect animal skeletons!
This year we've got:
Tumblr media
"Bird With Bat Wings"; a staple a la Cat Skeleton With Ear Bones, this one doesn't stray too far from grace. Acceptable, even if the phalanges are an atrocity. 8/10
Tumblr media
"Bull-Headed-Frog"; listen I know we're in the realm of artistic liberties, but frogs don't typically have ribs. Nor do their skulls resemble a brachycephalic crocodile. However, it is still a bit charming in its own way. 2/10
Tumblr media
"WHAT THE FUCKTOPUS": I'll be honest guys, I lost my shit in the middle of walmart. This is genuinely dreadful to look at. Was the designer aware that molluscs typically don't have... yknow, bones?? This looks more like the skull of a little green man with multiple vertebral columns. He looks like my homophobic father disapproving of my new boyfriend. -100/10
Tumblr media
"???": there is so much going on with this 0/10 I'm so done

Weird question for you 👉👈 do you have any drawings of the lamb or narinder like, naked? NOT in a horny way I SWEAR, I love your style and I just wanna see how you draw their legs lmao, I can't figure it out myself and other artists I can find are like, too human.
(nakey animals ahead)
Okay, so to preface this I'm a hobbyist artist who commits anatomical atrocities for shits & giggles, and this is by no means a professional/accurate way to draw animals, humans, or any combination of the two. This started as me struggling to explain how I draw instead of just sticking to the most brutally honest explanation of "I just wing it", but having to draw out different parts of anatomy and how proportional they are to each other was hugely helpful to help me re-evaluate how I draw animals. So thank you.
I'll be mostly using Lamb and Narinder for reference, because the brainrot is strong and they're what I draw the most.
Tumblr media
A lot of my style comes from the fact that I'm primarily an animal artist, not a human one. In fact, COTL's the first fandom that I've drawn anthro characters in, and it was a trial trying to adapt what I know to upright animals.
Best way to get a better grip on anatomy is to sketch from references. Nothing that can really replace practice. It's helpful to look at skeleton and muscle diagrams and get a good idea of where body parts are in relation to each other. Then, search up actual references and try to overlay the shapes and bones onto them. When I'm not sure if something of mine is proportioned correctly, I just measure something with my fingers and compare.
Some specific things to note: generally, the hind legs of quadrupeds have a larger metatarsal area (the large flat portion of your foot) compared to humans--that's why people say cats tip-toe. Humans have theirs relatively short; how long you make that area largely determines how Creature the design looks. I know some people who draw purely human legs, some who draw human legs then add the extra foot length on top, all of that's fine. Personally, I will shorten the leg length above the knee to compensate. In quadrupeds, the knee will draw up very close to the torso area, as you can see in the jackal doodle.
Another note: when standing, it's important give the impression that there's a center of balance. When standing straight, a straight line drawn from the hip to the foot of a leg should be relatively perpendicular to the ground.
(Of course this all goes out the window the moment anything other than standing straight is involved but w/e.)
Tumblr media
A lot of the fundamentals carry over between my quadruped and anthro art: the general shapes, the proportions, etc. One thing I noticed while sketching Lamb is that sheep have a femur that's almost entirely against their torso, and their legs are mostly just the tarsal parts (sorry if I'm butchering the anatomy).
For the arms/forelimbs, I mainly just use human anatomy with a repurposed number of fingers. It's easier, plus I can't exactly have a sheep with sheep limbs carry an axe around. I mean it's doable, just kinda awkward.
Tumblr media
After getting the basics down, I move to more complex poses. One thing I struggle massively with is anything involving knees--kneels were something that eluded me for months. There are things that humans do that look very awkward when you factor in other animals' anatomies. I'm not super good with action poses so I can't really say how I've overcome that limitation, because I haven't :'D.
When I'm doing more simplistic poses, I just result resort to drawing a slightly bent line and calling it a day. You don't see much outside clothing anyways.
Tumblr media
Last thing I found interesting: because of the weight distribution, the positioning of the arms in relation to the torso is different in bipeds and quadrupeds. Drawing anatomy with arms that kinda come forward and legs spread apart give designs a more animalistic vibe to me.

A.K.A. Two of Hearts. They're inversions of each other - one driven by a moral compass he doesn't quite have any control over, oscillating wildly between atrocities and regret as the last shreds of his humanity demand a conscience out of him; the other without any morality at all, committing any crime he finds amusing for the hell of it with no regret at all, yet with a kind of external fascination for stories with love in them, even (and especially) though they all end badly. They can fill in each others' gaps and provide what they lack. By their powers combined they make one barely functional human being.
they complete each other. anatomically.
Brian/Lyf QPR:
Look, them as a queer platonic partners just does something to me. They both spend a lot of time isolated in space and very likely have some form of trauma from it. Just think about them sitting together looking out at space trying to do exposure therapy n all that, or hell even them sharing about how being alone in space effected them and being there for each other because they /get it/. It does something to me every time. Like they could be romantic but also the idea they are qpp's makes me happy too.

Welcome everyone to this garden of atrocities. If you have arrived here, if at this moment you find yourself under its threshold, reading these brief words, it is because some deviation has afflicted your soul. Be warned: those who cross the threshold of this page, abandon all humanity. For here is left behind what was once known as human life, to immerse oneself in a botany of flesh. Before you stretches a desolate landscape, the ruins sedimented after two centuries of brutal erosion, exerted by the capital-knife on our sentient bodies. The deepest anatomical nudity lurks in each of the human-machine wrists that rise in this steel and viscera oasis. It is not advised to approach them too closely; do not look directly into their watery, shattered eyes; and even less, make contact with the putrid tapestry that envelops them. Nor should you try to understand the songs that arise from within their still mouths. Disarticulated, stormy laments; words born from the deepest cyber-psychic hell, detritus fermented in the bowels of your digital devices that perhaps should never have been unearthed. If those ghostly words reach your ears, heed them as one hears the flow of lava; perhaps admiring them, but never immersing oneself in them. Despite heeding so many warnings, your thinking organism may still seem absurd to you after visiting this human botany. It matters not. Trust me, it will be worth it. Go ahead, cross the threshold.

ANYTHING 4 U @simplyirenic
drumroll please.............. introducing:
EMIL G. RACOVIȚĂ
(or racovitza)
you may already know this romanian scientist as the subject of this popular and famous photo, the first-ever photograph taken underwater, with an exposure time of 30 minutes:
Tumblr media
it was taken in 1899 at the oceanographic laboratory in banyuls-sur-mer, france, where racovitza was working at the time in his capacity as a pioneering marine biologist.
however, a mere year prior, racovitza had been suffering through a harsh antarctic winter as a member of the scientific staff on board the belgica, the ice-locked ship of the belgian antarctic expedition.
(for more on this expedition i am beseeching you to read MADHOUSE AT THE END OF THE EARTH which you can find at your library probably or on various illicit webbed sites as well as bookstores!!!)
but the basic summary is, raco (as he was known) was one of the first men hired onto the expedition by leader adrien de gerlache, who was essentially a trust fund kid with a lifelong obsession with ships, sailing, and exploration. which was kind of unfortunate for someone from belgium, a country with little coastline to speak of and a navy that was mainly for show. this was the late 19th century and most belgians were hella amped re doing atrocities in the congo but no, not good old adrien. instead his heart was fixed on making belgium a name to be reckoned with in the world of polar exploration. cue laugh track
anyway raco came along for the ride, he was also from a rich family so it helped that he offered to serve without pay. also look at him. you would want him on your ship. you would want him, like, in general. i certainly do. he's like if the man on the pringles can exuded unbearable erotic energy.
Tumblr media
raco's official duties on the expedition included collecting and analyzing zoological and botanic samples from the sea, ice, and land; conducting meteorological readings; documenting the wildlife and landscape; and all sorts of other vital scientific tasks. and being cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
however his most important job on the expedition by far was probably that of resident cartoonist:
Another beloved monotony-breaking ritual was the presentation of Racovitza’s daily cartoon. In addition to his skill at anatomical drawing, the zoologist was a scathing caricaturist with an eastern European fondness for the absurd and a scatological streak. Though bawdy and puerile, Racovitza’s pencil sketches were an unfiltered take on life aboard the Belgica, a chronicle of the men’s frustrations and inside jokes.
listen. when julian said these cartoons were bawdy i was like yeah sure okay. but my god, the man did not hold back. he was KINKY. he was obsessed with butts in particular, drawing the ass of his scientific colleague henryk arctowski over and over, including comparisons to the flat backside of lieutenant danco:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there were also cartoons dealing with shitting blood, watching women piss, and naked boxing. you can literally look at them all yourself although i will say they're about 1000x funnier if you know the people involved so it's a nice treat after you finish reading madhouse. but here's another favorite demonstrating the harsh realities of an icebound ship ("promenade in the caca avenue"):
Tumblr media
anyway while the life-threatening chaos of this frathouse-esque expedition was going on around him, and cook and amundsen were off somewhere staring into each other's eyes like in the "is this allowed!?!" vine, raco continued doing important scientific work, pranking the hell out of his shipmates, and also being adorable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
eventually the expedition freed themselves from the ice and returned home. raco resumed his research career, working with the other members of the expedition to compile and publish the results of their findings, and eventually rising in the ranks of the scientific establishment of europe.
basically what i love about raco and what brings me joy every day to contemplate is that he was clearly an enormous goof with a wide variety of deranged fetishes, but also a brilliant and hard-working scientist who founded an entirely new scientific field (biospeleogy, the study of cave organisms) and grew up to be a hot dad, the most badass looking grandpa, and ended his life as one of the most respected and renowned scientists in all of romanian history. he's on stamps!!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes i reflect on how he seems to be a man before his time, but also i guess i am grateful he was born in the 1800s and not the 80s because i think if he had access to the internet he definitely would've been a chronic shitposter and not got nearly as much important science done.

🥺🎶
💖🤩
✅🤯
i want to know so many things lmao (feel free to ignore any of them) hope you have a nice day :)
(From this ask game here)
Ask, and you shall receive! My day’s going pretty well; I hope yours is, too! 🥰
🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
As a sad, touch-starved little gremlin, any scene involving cuddles or hand-holding/hand-kisses reduces me to a sentimental mess. Those quiet respites where characters completely relax and let themselves be vulnerable with their partner because they’re secure in each other’s love get to me every time. :’)
🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?
Ironically, although I love to sing, I generally can’t listen to music while I write because I get too distracted to concentrate on the fic and just start jamming out instead. 😅 However, I sometimes play a few songs before drafting if I think they’ll put me in the necessary headspace for a particular story.
Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” is my main go-to at present, along with “Mysterious” by Queen Bee.
💖 What made you start writing?
It was the inevitable outcome of being a weird, introverted, socially-anxious only child with almost no friends, an overactive imagination, and a chronic case of bibliophilia. 😎 I frequently made up stories on my own to keep myself entertained, although I rarely summoned the discipline to commit them to paper (or, when I did, flitted over to a different idea after scribbling down the first chapter). However, I didn’t start writing fic until receiving a request for a Sebagrelle oneshot a few years ago. My brainrot for this ship had already reached an advanced stage, and that little nudge served as the catalyst for my foray into the magical (and sometimes terrifying) realm of AO3. 🤪
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
That’s probably a dead-even tie between Grelle and Sebastian, not only because of how fascinating they are to explore, but because they’re dear comfort characters of mine. Writing in their voices is the emotional equivalent of wrapping up in a soft, fluffy blanket (perverse as that may sound given their canon atrocities 😆).
✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?
Assonance and alliteration. I like my prose to have a distinctive cadence, and using these devices is conducive to that goal. The problem is that my brain defaults to these types of sound pairings a little too often (it’s the bane of my existence 😭), so I always have to comb back through my drafts to keep their usage from degenerating into simple tackiness rather than serving an artistic purpose. 😖
🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?
I was actually discussing this with another mutual earlier—I may be a bisexual cauldron of lust, but smut is an utter chore when I’m the one writing it. There are so many moving parts to keep track of (double entendre fully intended 😉): Is this position anatomically possible? How are the characters’ bodies situated in relation to each other? Do the acts of physical intimacy align with the emotional underpinnings I want to convey to my readers? It’s absolutely exhausting. There’s a reason I prefer writing flowery, introspective pieces! 😅

The Pure, Unadulterated Gospel

I want to get back to the basics, and be very plain, because I have been told that my articles are too long. This article is going to be a “remake” of “The solution to evil, The Good News”, and this time I want to give without any digression the pure message of the Gospel […]

Okay so I have a completely insane rant to go on RN but hear me out. I am completely devastated that bats are so trendy now. They have been my special interest (kind of an infantile way to put it but you know) since like well 2012 or so and it's how I ended up learning a lot about ecology and the importance of every living creature and started to really consider my political views leaning into an environmentalist. Like out of everything else in life I am a nature appreciator. Also it was a bonus to be a little goth of me like hehe how cute she loves robert smith and bats, but then a bunch of people in clown makeup appropriated goth culture, and squishmallows came out, and now bats are trendy and so many people have awful bat tattoos that are so detailed but not anatomically correct and its annoying, like why get a whole creature tattooed on you if you don't even know what species is tattooed on your skin forever. Hello. Oh and fucking. A conservation page I follow posted this atrocity
Tumblr media
T-T stop woobifying the conservation efforts
Exhibit B
Tumblr media
"I just really love bats" FUCK you for selling temu pins and trying to market them as eco friendly, are you fucking shitting me? Does anyone stand up for what they believe in anymore?
Exhibit C I had to take off my pin from bat world sanctuary (you know that I bought to support their efforts) bc I cringed so fucking hard when the lady at the dispensary was like "ohhh sick I like your batman pin!" Like I just died so fucking hard on the inside and I realize it's probably not helping the like. Tboy swag I keep unintentionally giving off like no I'm just a girl that likes wearing a hat bc overhead lighting bothers me. Oh and a food runner at my old work place was like putting on a very sultry tone you know how femmes flirt, and being like omg that's suuuuch a cool pin, what constellations are in it? I took a class on astrology one semester, blah blah blah and I was like ummmmm okay I have to slice these cherry tomatoes. I don't get it I have my wedding rings on my necklace and a plain silicone band on my ring finger I feel like it's impossible to not notice I'm married as fuck.

Serial killers have captivated the public's imagination for decades, both out of morbid fascination and a desire to understand the depths of human darkness. These individuals, driven by twisted motives and psychological abnormalities, have left a chilling mark on history. From the notorious Jack the Ripper, whose identity remains a haunting mystery, to the charismatic but deadly Ted Bundy, the annals of true crime are filled with stories of heinous acts committed by infamous serial killers. Their crimes reveal the complex interplay between psychological factors, societal influences, and the dark recesses of the human mind. Criminal psychologists and profilers tirelessly analyze the patterns and motivations behind these murders, hoping to gain insights that can help prevent future atrocities. Unsolved mysteries surrounding serial killers add an additional layer of intrigue. The identity of Jack the Ripper continues to elude investigators, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and speculation. The search for answers is a reminder that, even in an age of advanced forensic techniques, some mysteries may forever remain unsolved. True crime enthusiasts and researchers delve into the disturbing details of these cases, examining the methods, signatures, and victimology associated with each killer. The painstaking work of forensic investigators and law enforcement officers is essential in bringing justice to the victims and their families, striving to provide closure in the face of unimaginable grief. The study of infamous serial killers sheds light on the darkest corners of the human psyche, challenging our understanding of the boundaries of human behavior. Through exploring the chilling tales and motivations of these individuals, we come face-to-face with the terrifying reality that evil can exist within our midst, lurking behind seemingly normal facades. As society continues to grapple with the aftermath of their crimes, it is through understanding, vigilance, and a relentless pursuit of justice that we aim to prevent such atrocities from occurring again. The stories of infamous serial killers serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of remaining aware, informed, and committed to protecting the vulnerable among us. Jack the Ripper Jack the Ripper is one of the most notorious and enigmatic serial killers in history, active in the impoverished Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The true identity of Jack the Ripper remains unknown, leading to countless theories and speculation. During a span of several months, Jack the Ripper brutally murdered at least five women, all of whom were prostitutes. The victims, known as the "Canonical Five," were Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. The manner in which they were killed and mutilated suggested a level of anatomical knowledge and a disturbed fascination with violence. The murders were marked by a signature style, with the victims' throats being slashed, followed by extensive abdominal mutilations. The savagery of the killings, along with the precise removal of organs in some cases, led to widespread panic and a frenzy of media coverage at the time. Despite intense investigations and public pressure, the police were unable to apprehend the elusive killer. The case was plagued by a lack of forensic technology and the challenges of investigating in a densely populated and impoverished area. The absence of reliable eyewitness accounts and the use of aliases by potential suspects further complicated the investigation. Numerous suspects emerged over the years, ranging from local individuals with criminal backgrounds to doctors and members of the royal family. However, conclusive evidence linking any of them to the crimes has never been found. The legacy of Jack the Ripper endures in popular culture, with numerous books, movies, and documentaries dedicated to the unsolved case. The mystery
surrounding the true identity of Jack the Ripper continues to captivate and intrigue people to this day, making it one of the most enduring unsolved mysteries in criminal history. Ted Bundy Ted Bundy was an infamous American serial killer who operated during the 1970s. He was known for his good looks, charisma, and ability to manipulate his victims. Bundy confessed to murdering at least 30 young women, although the actual number of his victims is believed to be much higher. Bundy targeted young women, often college students, whom he would approach under the pretense of needing help or assistance. Once he gained their trust, he would overpower and assault them. His preferred method of killing varied, including strangulation, bludgeoning, and even using handcuffs. One of Bundy's most notable crime sprees occurred in 1978 when he abducted and murdered several women from Washington State and Oregon. This period of heightened violence led to his eventual capture. Bundy's charm and intelligence enabled him to elude capture for a considerable time. He frequently changed his appearance, used multiple aliases, and employed various strategies to evade suspicion. However, his luck ran out in 1978 when he was finally apprehended and charged with multiple counts of murder. During his trial, Bundy represented himself and used his legal knowledge to manipulate the proceedings. He often attracted media attention and garnered a small following of supporters. However, overwhelming evidence, including eyewitness testimonies and forensic analysis, ultimately led to his conviction. In 1989, Bundy was executed in the electric chair in Florida's Raiford Prison. Prior to his execution, he confessed to a series of murders and provided some insights into his twisted psychology. Bundy's case remains one of the most infamous in American criminal history and continues to fascinate people due to the contrast between his charming exterior and his heinous acts of violence. Jeffrey Dahmer Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as the "Milwaukee Cannibal" or the "Milwaukee Monster," was an American serial killer who operated between 1978 and 1991. He targeted young men and boys, primarily of Asian or African-American descent. Dahmer lured his victims to his apartment under the pretense of offering them money, alcohol, or companionship. Once there, he drugged them, engaged in sexual acts with their unconscious bodies, and ultimately killed them. His crimes escalated over time, involving dismemberment, necrophilia, and cannibalism. Dahmer's actions went undetected for years due to his ability to deceive authorities and manipulate the people around him. However, in 1991, one of his intended victims managed to escape, leading to Dahmer's arrest and the discovery of his horrifying crimes. Upon his arrest, police found photographs of dismembered bodies, human remains, and evidence of his gruesome acts. Dahmer confessed to the murders of 17 young men and boys but hinted at a higher body count. He was charged with multiple counts of murder, sexual assault, and dismemberment. During his trial, Dahmer's defense team argued that he suffered from various mental disorders, including a paraphilic disorder and borderline personality disorder. However, he was found guilty and sentenced to 16 life terms in prison. In 1994, Dahmer met a violent end when he was attacked and killed by a fellow inmate in the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin. Jeffrey Dahmer's case shocked the world due to the heinous nature of his crimes and the extent of his depravity. It raised questions about the failings of the justice system and the importance of early intervention in identifying and treating individuals with violent tendencies. John Wayne Gacy John Wayne Gacy, also known as the "Killer Clown," was an American serial killer who operated between 1972 and 1978. He sexually assaulted and murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men, making him one of the most notorious serial killers in American history.
Gacy presented himself as a friendly and upstanding member of the community, often entertaining children as a clown at local events and parties. However, behind this façade, he harbored a dark and sadistic desire for power and control. Gacy would lure his victims to his home, promising them money, drugs, or employment opportunities. Once inside, he would overpower them, sexually assault them, and eventually strangle them to death. He buried many of his victims in the crawl space beneath his house, while others were discarded in nearby rivers. Gacy's crimes went undetected for years due to his ability to manipulate and deceive those around him. However, in 1978, a series of disappearances and the discovery of the remains of several young men near his property led to his arrest. During his trial, Gacy's defense attempted to argue that he suffered from multiple personality disorder, but the jury rejected this defense. In 1980, he was convicted of multiple counts of murder and sentenced to death. Gacy spent over a decade on death row, filing numerous appeals. However, in 1994, he was executed by lethal injection at the Stateville Correctional Center in Illinois. The chilling nature of Gacy's crimes, combined with his dual identity as a respected member of society and a sadistic killer, continues to captivate public attention. His case prompted a reexamination of how society identifies and apprehends individuals who may be concealing dark and dangerous secrets. Aileen Wuornos Aileen Wuornos was an American female serial killer who operated in Florida between 1989 and 1990. She targeted and killed several men, claiming they had either raped or attempted to rape her while she worked as a prostitute. Wuornos had a troubled upbringing, experiencing a traumatic childhood and engaging in criminal activities from an early age. She turned to prostitution to support herself and became involved in a series of violent encounters with clients. Between 1989 and 1990, Wuornos murdered at least seven men. Her victims were typically middle-aged men who picked her up while she was working as a sex worker. She would shoot them at close range and often rob them of their belongings afterward. Wuornos' crimes gained significant media attention, partly due to her status as a female serial killer. She was apprehended in 1991 after evidence led police to her location. During her trial, Wuornos claimed that the killings were acts of self-defense and that she had been a victim of sexual violence. However, her self-defense claims were largely unsuccessful, and she was convicted and sentenced to death. Wuornos maintained her innocence and alleged that the killings were a result of her desperate situation and fear for her own life. In 2002, Wuornos was executed by lethal injection at the Florida State Prison. Her case sparked debates surrounding the death penalty, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma on criminal behavior. Wuornos' life and crimes have been the subject of books, documentaries, and the film "Monster" starring Charlize Theron, for which Theron won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Wuornos. Her case continues to generate interest and controversy, raising questions about the interplay of personal history, mental health, and criminal responsibility.

The chill in the air was not noticeable in the glassed-in dining area. The branches outside were ruffling in a breeze but the sun shined warmly through the […]
