A big, messy Linked Universe playlist
Link for Links
Heavy on the angst, because of who I am as a person. (At the same time, don’t take it too seriously, man.)
Influenced by canon, manga (TP Link is really Going Through It™ ), my personal perceptions, and popular fandom canon.
A pretty wide variety of genres, with a bias towards metal and prog rock.
I kept snippets of lyrics for most songs, also because of who I am as a person. (Some were particularly hard to narrow down to just one verse or chorus.) Those - and a little more rambling - are under the cut if you really want, in the order of the playlist. But. It’s long.
I didn’t initially make this with the intent to share, but hey. Throughout my past year+ of listening, I’ve been haphazardly adding songs to a playlist I very creatively named Links. If something reminded me of them, whether through the music or lyrics or both, I threw it on the playlist, so some songs might seem odd or vague. Some are really on the nose, as subtle as a sledgehammer. (Sky for Sky? Dude. Sorry.) Some are there because of a fitting line or two that stuck in my head. Ultimately, music - like any form of creative expression - can be interpreted in a multitude of ways.
My listening habits and tastes are erratic, which is why this is one big, jumbled playlist and not separated for different Links. Not to mention if I did that, some (Wild, Legend) would have a lot and some (Wind, Four) would have none, both because of my own familiarity with them, and because of the general themes of the music I tend to listen to. Most songs are a general ‘hero’s spirit reborn’ mood, anyway - those are the first part of the playlist. The second half is more nuanced to specific Links, plus a few Ganon vibes.
1. Deep Purple - April (Koji Kondo, composer of the original Legend of Zelda theme, was into Deep Purple as a kid, and it shows.)
2. Kamelot - Regalis Apertura
3. Au4 - So Just Hang On, Beautiful One (I’ve posted this here before. I can’t hear it without thinking of LU now.) So I slipped in through the gate almost unknown. All my border stamps were late. Seven days old. Cold hand griped my shoulder blade, broke the bone. Bloody nose and turned away, all the way home.
4. FC Kahuna - Hayling Don’t think about all those things you fear, just be glad to be here
5. Glass Animals - Youth Boy, when I left you you were young I was gone, but not my love You were clearly meant for more Than a life lost in the war
6. Pain of Salvation - Restless Boy A restless boy in a world too slow A flame born into cinder, ash, and glow I've given everything I gave it all Yet find myself alone
7. Haken - The Endless Knot Our design shifted frame by frame! Across the line our cycle starts to fail. Our design shifted frame by frame! Across the line we die to live again.   We need a story to believe in. We need a hero to prevail. We need a challenge we can overcome, it takes a tragedy to make us one
8. Kamelot - Memento Mori (I particularly associate this with Time and Twilight) I am the god in my own history The master of the game I may believe if she would come to me And whisper out my name Sometimes I wonder where the wind has gone If life has ever been Sometimes I wonder how belief alone Can cut me free from sin
9. Katatonia - Fighters Look I told you so We never stop If we said that We'll back it up For sure You know We're fighters
10. Megadeth - This Day We Fight! (I mean, all Links, but particularly Warriors) For this I was chosen, because I fear nothing With confidence I tread through the dead of the night Off to another war-torn, faraway battlefield Wherein lies a demonic enemy horde
11. Moon Tooth - Igneous Well, the spirit took me And this old broken body leapt up and danced Settin’ out Settin' out with all my heroes in a bundle at my back Hawk am I More wings span in my shadow than overcast Yeah, you know what they say Always need something to look up to, ha
12. Samael - Moongate Destiny, tomorrow is today Destiny, without boundaries How many nights will we spend together traveling infinity back and forth and again How many times will we go together questioning eternity about us about our wonders...
13. TOOL- Parabola This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality Embrace this moment, remember We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion
14. Lunatic Soul - Blood on the Tightrope No matter how hard you try To shut down your feverish thoughts They hunt you down with no regret Cause you have to fix it all
15. Hybrid - Keep It In The Family
16. Soul Savers - Unbalanced Pieces Gone, now carry on Through violent seasons I call you mother, mother, mother In vain, absent chain The twilight's bleeding And the playing board has two unbalanced pieces
17. Steve Von Till - Valley of the Moon All she gives is a stone facade Like ill-given flowers at a dead man's wake Here we slave for the dreams of another And fight over scraps like wayward dogs
18. Ludovico Einaudi - Experience
19. Lunatic Soul - Summoning Dance Three stones on the right side Three stones on the left My vicious circle of life and death   “Oh you want it” I hear it again “Oh you want it” My burden Curse to break
20. Lunatic Soul - Through Shaded Woods Run through your shaded woods Run through your shaded mind Run through the night Run away Run through the darkness Run
21. Lunatic Soul - Naavie
22. David Bowie - Nature Boy There was a boy A very strange, enchanted boy They say he wandered very far Very far, over land and sea A little shy and sad of eye But very wise was he
23. The Dandy Warhols - Sleep Well, I could sleep forever But it's of her I dream If I could sleep forever I could forget about everything
24. Au4 - Everyone is Everyone (and Everything is Everything) Tripping and tumbling, Flipping and fumbling. Flowing on the rivers of sadness That have been forever rumbling.   But from dawn until now Of all the paths that I could have gone down Of all the valleys That I could have been flowing through.   In spite of all the chaos And all that has come between us, How is it I still find myself Here with you.
25. Kingcrow - Everything Goes Your hands again upon the ground Falling rain for hours and hours As you learn the game Time dispels the fog ... Ever been there? Ever felt like prey? Ever thought your mind was feeble? Lot of things that don’t make sense
26. Pain of Salvation - Icon As a child I felt too old And now when I'm grown-up I feel too young A different kind so I've been told Just slightly out of reach and out of time
27. Sophia Loizou - Divine Interference (I got spooky dungeon vibes. Also, the title.)
28. Carpenter Brut - Fab Tool Runnin Gunnin Forward in the phantom shatter so grand Splatter grand, arcanum fuel Wrought iron out of the sky Over me, tells no lie
29. Blue Stahli - Death Will Have to Run All on the open road Where none will ever grow A journey toward the known With countless miles to go
30. Gyroscope - Mistakes & Ladders I am the first? No I can't be the first A continuous nothing, destined for something Tell me who you are and why you trapped me here
31. Queens of the Stone Age - Run, Pig, Run Run, pig, run Here I come
32. Chali 2na & Krafty Kuts - Guard The Fort The swords are drawn and odds are stacked And we clash the impact's a thunderous clap Calm demeanor Even though we are under attack [...my turn to guard the fort ready for combat]
33. The Great Discord - Army of Me (lol)
34. Kongos - Terrified I think I'll start again and change my name You only live once or twice, what a shame Somebody fucked up when designing this game
35. Woodkid - Run Boy Run Run, boy, run! This ride is a journey to Run, boy, run! The secret inside of you Run, boy, run! This race is a prophecy Run, boy, run! And disappear in the trees
36. The Beta Machine - The End A million miles away from you this time I'll do what it takes I'm on my way If lines are in the sand I'll go under If I can make it in time I will bring you back with me
37. Devin Townsend Project - Gump When we last met who was I? I'm sorry we no longer see eye to eye The energy to keep you in while keeping myself out I'm sorry how you'll take this  But I just don't have the patience anymore
38. Arrested Youth - Riot! I can't get much satisfaction living in this cave It's tough to breathe, I'm in the belly of the beast Can't sleep with all my rage With me and all my generations living in this cage Pick up your guns and tell your sons, tonight we break the cage

the annotated Tome of the Wild
Part five: Babes in the Wood!
- A half-moon the color of yellowed pages hung high in the sky above the figures on the ground OH LOOK IT’S THAT SAME DAMN MOON AGAIN. DESPITE THAT DAYS HAVE GONE BY AND IT DEFINITELY WOULDN’T LOOK THE SAME AT THIS POINT.
- “Idiot child. Perhaps I should've done something to make you more intelligent, instead of just transforming your body.” And here we have confirmation that it was Koume that changed her into this.
- Of course, the centerpiece of this scene is the reveal of what Midna’s been up to this whole time. In the show, the situation for Beatrice is similar: she thought that Adelaide just wanted a couple of kids to do household chores, and was fine with just turning them over to her in exchange for the item she needed to break her and her family’s curse. Until, of course, she grew to like them and have second thoughts, as Midna does here. Which of course lines up with how Midna initially thought to just use Link in TP to help herself and her people, until his actions and Zelda’s made her reconsider her disdain for the people of the world of light. Here it’s her bond with Aryll and Link that makes her hesitate to hand them over: she really likes Aryll, and after a rough start with Link they’re now getting along, and she feels a lot of sympathy for his situation with Mipha. She doesn’t want to keep them from getting home even for a little while, and when she finds out about Koume’s true intentions she draws the line, as her moral code won’t let her hurt others for her own sake and she knows Zelda wouldn’t want her to hurt anyone on her behalf either. This conflict and growth are exactly why I had an easy time casting Midna in this role, and I loved being able to write her and develop the dynamics she has with Link and Aryll.
- “Only the voice of the shadow that lurks in the woods, the king of darkness that rules the night, concerns me...” King of Darkness is one of Ganon’s titles in the series.
- “There is only his way.” A line that will be echoed by the Beast himself much later.
- “Aryll, I know!” Link froze as soon as the words were out of his mouth. We’re at the point where Link is snapping at his beloved baby sister, showing just how stressed out he is right now. He was able to relax more when Midna was around, but now her betrayal is driving him further along that path to despair I’ve been mentioning. He immediately apologizes, to his credit, but he’s still starting to crack.
- “You are in grave peril, and your fate, your very lives depend on if you heed my words or not! The Beast stalks you, seeking your fall into his grasp... but you must not allow him to capture you, you must not give in to despair!” He’s not wrong! Listen to him!
- The shadow laughed, a long, low sound that seemed to ooze up from the deepest depths of the earth where eldritch creatures slumbered, forgotten by time and the gods alike. Calamity Ganon emerges from deep beneath Hyrule Castle.
- “You forget, do you not, that your daughter's safety depends upon keeping me happy?” The first hint of the deception that the Beast is working on Rhoam.
- Aryll is now calling her frog Alfonzo, after the engineer in Spirit Tracks.
- AND THEN THERE’S NAYRU AND KOTAKE. This was one of the most FUN things I got to play with. The episode this portion is an adaptation of is probably my favorite in the show, and I had an utter blast toying with expectations here just as the show did. Maybe even more! The show leads you to believe that the character Kotake replaces is the sinister and evil one, preying on the hapless young girl that Nayru is replacing, only to yank the rug out from under you and reveal that the girl is possessed and trying to eat the brothers.
now, Nayru is from Oracle of Ages. You meet her at the beginning, whereupon she quickly becomes possessed by the evil sorceress Veran. Kotake, meanwhile, is present as a villain in OOT and a linked Oracle game, and as a friendly shopkeeper in Majora’s Mask. We just saw the villainous version of her sister at the beginning of this chapter. So... is she evil too? If you’ve never seen the show, have played OOT and MM but not the Oracle games, you probably got taken in just like a first time viewer of the show is. Only to find out too late, as does Link, that Nayru is the people-eating one, and not Kotake, who is indeed her MM self and not evil.
- Nayru laughed too, a pleasant sound reminiscent of harp strings being played. Nayru gives Link the Harp of Ages in OOA.
- Aryll has switched the frog’s name to Dr. Calip, after the NPC in BOTW who gives you the Cursed Statue shrine quest.
- “It is thanks to you that I shall finally be free to roam the outside world, after all.” DANGER DANGER, the evil spirit wants to roam free and EAT MORE PEOPLE.
- Aryll spots the danger, but mistakes it for her desire to see Link end up with Mipha and no one else. Which we all agree with, of course, but it’s not the real reason she’s uncomfortable. Link, meanwhile, is oblivious to it, at least partially because he’s sinking deeper into despair and contemplating just letting Mipha go out of his intensifying self-hatred over what he’s done to her.
- Nayru's eager whisper broke into his thoughts. He glanced up and saw her eyes gleaming with a sort of hunger as she gazed across the room at him. DANGER DANGER, SHE WANTS TO DEVOUR YOU. Again, I choose my descriptive words very deliberately.
- Eerie purple light glowed around Nayru as she hovered in the air, and her face had been twisted into something that resembled a ReDead mask. Veran’s spirit form is indeed purple, and nobody who’s ever played OOT, MM, or WW can forget the ReDeads. my favorite monster I want them back dammit
- “Link?” Aryll pressed herself against his side and clutched at his arm. “There are a lot of skeletons in here...” Remember how Aryll was so excited about digging up a single skeleton back in Ikana? Not so fun anymore.
- In the show, the whole sequence of trying to avoid being eaten was creepy, but a bit more comedic too. I leaned fully into the horror that it truly would be here, not just because I wanted to write something scary, but also because I needed something that would traumatize Link enough to push him into the breakdown he has in the woods afterwards, setting the climax of the story in motion. His feelings of failure mirror what I headcanon he must’ve been going through just before he fell in Blatchery Plain as well, the despair he would’ve felt over being unable to prevent the fall of the kingdom, the deaths of his friends (especially Mipha, who he’s grieving the most), and knowing that he’s at his limit and about to die before he can get Zelda to safety. Which is another way that the appearance of that painting in the last chapter ties in.
- Aryll’s dream sequence! OH BOY. In the show, this is an entire episode, done in the style of 1930s animation, with musical numbers and everything. That doesn’t quite translate to prose, though, so I had to change and abridge it. More interestingly, though, there’s subtle hints in the show that the dream is not real, and is intended to lure Greg, the younger brother, into the clutches of the Beast. I decided to run with that. One of the hints in the show is that the gates you see seem to be made of ivory; in Greek myth, dreams pass through one of two gates, either horn or ivory. True dreams come through the gates of horn, while false ones pass through the gates of ivory. So naturally Aryll walks through gates of ivory to reach the tower.
The tower itself is the one located in the Cloud Tops in Minish Cap. Which, here, is ruled by Princess Hilda from Link Between Worlds, who has Aryll save her kingdom from the evil Yuga. This is all a HUGE hint that this is false, a trap. Because in ALBW, Hilda was conspiring with Yuga in a desperate bid to save Lorule. And who took over Yuga’s body as part of that plan? Ganon. BAM.
- And now the frog is being called Ezlo, after the talking cap in Minish Cap.
- Link is now so deeply in despair that the dekuwood is starting to grow around him, which is what motivates Aryll to make her deal with the Beast that brings everything to its eventual conclusion.
- A dark shape emerged from the curtain of snow; it was a small, plump man with a beard that covered the entire lower half of his face, rowing a rickety little boat. His eyebrows went up as he took in the sight of Midna lifting the unconscious Link into the air with her prehensile hair. “That is one strange fish you've caught there, missy...” This is the fisherman from Link’s Awakening.
- What Midna sees in the distance is the Great Deku Tree, but I wasn’t about to reveal that just yet.
and that does it for part five!

Okay so it’s scream time lads
I watched the botw 2 trailer yet again because one of the theorists I’m subbed to on yt posted about speculations around the audio that we’ve all heard in the trailer so I went back and watched it to refresh myself of what we’ve got to look forward to with the crumb the Nintendo gave us and my Zelda brain reactivated. So, before I really delve into this I apologize if there’s a lot of stuff in this post that ya’ll’ve all heard before probably but these are my personal beliefs.
Okay so right from the start something that got my mind running again, the glowwy letters/symbols. While they look like shiekah they also heavily remind me of the twili, if you look closely the symbols aren’t the usual blue that sheikah tech has, they’re aqua but I’ll come back to that in a sec, not only that but these symbols are speculated to be Gerudo writing, which ties into an old theory that I believe about the twili. The color of these symbols is significant because if you look back at TP not only is aqua a largely recurring color with the twili people but the hand that these symbols lead to looks like some form of twili magic, the golden (what looks like) bracelets look to vaguely resemble Gerudo architecture type stuff which shares similarities with twili architecture as well. Not only that but taking another look at the trailer I remember that this isn’t that fist time we’ve seen twili magic being used in the form of a hand some way or another, yet again we turn our eyes back to twilight princess, midna’s hair turns into a hand when she’s still in her imp form, which is used in many significant ways that we often overlook, she uses it not only for attacking when need be she used it to pull link into the twilight and becon link when need be. Another example is the absolute beast that came out of the fused shadows when used together, this creature whatever it was had not two hands, not four hands, but six from what I recall. There were also those hand things in the twilight palace dungeon too, hands seem to be a recurring theme with these shadow dwellers. Another piece of information that should be taken note of, the twili know how to keep ganon at bay from what it seems, the event of twilight princess bust have been a weak point for them when they had hold of ganon he somehow got let out by Zant long after the sages sent him to them through the mirror, so of course the twili people would know how to keep hold of him for so long, they’ve done it before why not do it again.
Now what evidence could I possibly have to say that the twili even have a chance to be in the game? Buckle in kids I’m about beat a dead horse because I’m gonna talk about the Palmorae ruins. Anyone who’s played botw and got all the shrines should be vaguely familiar with this particular side quest at least. Looking at the shape and fragments of this ruin it’s obvious that there’s a strong reference to the mirror if twilight and it’s broken pieces you find in TP, not only that but it glows, and it doesn’t glow just any color, it glows aqua, the color that was a large part of the twili architecture. Now before you complete the quest and summon the shrine if you look behind these ruins there’s and obvious man made wall there, there are no doors to anything there it’s just a wall, but before the ruins were broken and they weren’t well, ruins this structure had a point to it. My belief is this wall was once used to project the portal that linked the world of light and the world of shadows. For whatever reason the mirror was broken and with no foreseeable future use to the structure the shiekah put a shrine right in the middle of the structure. Since the mirror has long been broken the last of the twili people who were able to come over were stuck in the world of light which could be deadly to them. That’s where I’m going to bring in the whole “Underneath the castle” part of this, the people of hyrule knew that this would be bad for the twili so they brought them down beneath the castle where it’s dark and they could live as comfortably as possible, but they could stay at a cost, they give assistance to holding ganon down there with them. That’s where the magic part comes from, these people have been forced to hold an old rotting mummy for a long time, so naturally the magic is gonna fade over time, even though (and this is completely a personal headcannon bear with me) the twili people could very possibly have much longer lifespans that any other race in hyrule they were down there and kept him at bay for a long time and got old. Then when calamity ganon came back the material that is very malice reminiscent begins to pour out of this mummy, further weakening the twili that still remain to hold him. Now where are these twili? I believe that that stuff pouring out of mummy ganon has them somehow trapped, in a video I saw the audio was messed around with to reveal a whisper of what sounded like “Help us, please” but to me when you listen to the unedited audio not only does it sound reversed but it sounds choppy and jumbled, because when I listened to it backwards I still didn’t make out anything to be heard, and where have we heard speech like that before? Midna, her in game speech in twilight princess was a native Japanese speaker saying lines in English to which then the audio was chopped and mixed to create what we all hear today and that’s exactly what I hear when I listen to the audio from the trailer.
Maybe it’s a reach and I’m overthinking something simple but this has been itching at my mind since it came out at E3 2019. Who knows, I could be right on a few aspects, Nintendo’s said before they’ll consider bringing back the twili people if there’s enough demand from fans to bring them back. I’ll be back tomorrow with my personal take on an old twilight princess theory when I’m able to keep my eyes open.

⚜ ; [ BOTW / OTHERWORLDS.2  ]     WORLDBUILDING │ VERSE
Honestly, i was trying to write a reply for @wildshero & then i thought maybe.... i should let people know a few things about Twilight Princess Link in the setting of Breath of the Wild. I feel like it would just be better for people to know a bit more about the verse since it’s actually one or my more favourite verses imo. but first allow me to refresh everybody on what i have for the verse.
let it be know that i will differentiate between the links for the rest of the post as the following: Wild = BOTW Link Twilight = TP Link
NAME: Twilight, Wolfie   SPECIES: wolf   HEIGHT: 4’3”   ‘ IS A LITTLE SHIT ’ Summoned as a wolf by Wild Child. He has to deal with his antics without rest or until he is returned back to his home world. Until then, the Link of this world must deal with the Cheeky Hero-Beast. Nobody said he had to play nice.
Another tidbit, i will always, ALWAYS RP Twilight in a post, TP state when he is in BOTW. Meaning that he already accomplished his role as the saviour of hyrule & things are at a somewhat normal state for everybody. he is currently looking for ways to look for midna & often times runs into random ‘twilight portals’ that are still in his world. these portals are like the normal portals you use in TP, however these are a bit different because they react when 2 things happen. 1: when twilight’s twili shard is nearby & 2: something ‘else’ happens that causes the portal to activate. that something else -- for BOTW purposes -- is when Wild uses the sheikah slate. consider these portals though more like random rifts in twilight’s world. sometimes he can’t even see them.
one this is for certain though: when he teleports -- only his body is taken. his master sword of his world is not taken with him. so the chances of him turning back into a human are very slim UNLESS he touches or tries to hold the master sword in wild’s world. Also another thing: twili magic works very differently in wild’s world. sometimes twilight -- if he wants to stay close to wild, is able to WILL himself to teleport to wild. but if he stays too far from wild for an extended period of time, he will be teleported back to his own world. he legit cannot stay alone in the wild’s world because it’s not his world. the thing that is keeping him there is the sheikah slate. so obviously if he’s not around it for a long time then he will naturally go home.
anyway, everything else will be under a read more because it talks about twilight’s relationship with wild & so on.
Honestly though, THIS POST made me really think about how Twilight would consider Wild as. if Wild was just a child to him, or if he considered him more as an equal. I feel like it would be the former tbh. THIS OTHER POST kind of proves a bit into that theory as well. Twilight obviously knows a lot more than Wild does & not just because Wild lost his memory.
Wild, in many ways, is still ‘young’ in the aspect that he hasn’t taken down ganon like how Twilight has. Twilight has fought many things, took down the Demon King himself, & lost a beloved friend while also losing part of his humanity as well. he’s only in his early 20s & he suffers from survivor’s guilt and its trying to mend a broken/betrayed heart.
am i ignoring that wild has amnesia? no. i am not. wild himself has gone through hardships, i will not lie about that. he almost lost to ganon. the other champions have all died. & zelda is keeping ganon at bay. but he doesn’t know what it is like to have fufilled the prophecy in his world. at least not like how twilight has.
I brought it up in another post about it, but essentially twilight feels empty after the defeat of ganon. not only that, but he also feels used. now that ganon is gone, he.... doesn’t know what to do with himself. & his friend destroyed the only known why to visit her. so yes, he... feels shattered. his heart weighs so heavy because after such a long journey, he can’t just move on. it’s like everything was stripped from him & he’s back to ‘just being plain old link: ranch hand of ordon village.
so yea, wild IS a child compared to twilight. his antics are all over the place -- wild is incredibly fickle. he feels like he’s dealing with the ordon children all over again. yet at the same time its just like the ordon children. he wants to help wild. he wants to protect him. in a way, he wants to prevent wild from having the same fate as him. yes he KNOWS what it feels like to be empty. wild is not empty, just because he doesn’t have any memories doesn’t mean that he is empty. wild is just lost. twilight wants to help him, & yet he doesn’t want to rush anything.
there was a post that discussed the personality of wild but i can’t find it. but it has to deal with the japanese version. ( another reason why i hate the english translations ) in the japanese versions, all the entries in the sheikah slate are LINK’S entries. its like link is keeping a diary to HELP him remember. so in wild’s case with twilight, its THE SAME THING.
the problem is that the more he remembers, the most intense they are. mainly because pieces of the memories are now wielding together. they aren’t just random fragments. the puzzles pieces are now fitting together. but you try to remember everything too fast? it can be incredibly devastating & more harmful than helpful. twilight recognises this. he knows this because lanaryu did that to him when he was given the vision. it can be harmful to one’s mental health especially if you aren’t prepared. it can lead you down a dark path & you can end up doubting yourself.
so if wild is rushing in trying to remember everything, it can hurt him. it could make him more reckless because he is simply more determined to win. just imagine this: somebody lashes out in anger after finding something out. you aren’t thinking, you are acting out on anger -- on emotion. it’s the worst thing to do especially in war. you HAVE to be calculating, especially with ganon. you cannot fight ganon with anger & pain. GANON IS THE EPITOME of those emotions. you will only be predictable & naturally, fighting anger with anger doesn’t work out. link will die because ganon is stronger than link mentally in this aspect. wild cannot go in blindly: he doens’t have zelda this time to give him another chance.
& yes, twilight KNOWS all of this. you are the only one who knows you the best. for twilight, he knows wild in a sense that wild is another incarnation of himself. twilight has also met the hero’s shade as well to know that there are several things that always get reborn with the hero of courage. one is that every link is reckless in some way, shape, or form. they have to be! they are the hero of courage; fear is not supposed to be in their blood. i say fear isn’t suppose to be, but anxiety still can be. any link can still hold some sort of doubt &/or self-blame. it’s a given. they are all heroes after all. they are not perfect, & they are expected so much. but each link can take it in differently. though i digress. my main point is that every single link is reckless. ( yes, even twilight, one of the more calculating heroes of courage is also reckless, it’s in his blood )
so yea, twilight worries for wild. he should. but anyway. that doesn’t mean twilight won’t be a little asshole to wild. as much as wild has his antics, so does twilight. wild often times does some really stupid shit, so naturally twilight would too. just to annoy him. call him petty if you want, but twilight is just a tired boy.
please let it be known that while twilgiht is an asshole sometimes, he is VERY protective of wild! he would consider him a best friend ( eventually ) and a companion! Wild does, in fact, fill the voidness in twilight's heart, and while he may be annoyed with him 80% of the time, he still cares for him. a lot.
uh.... some other things to consider too. twilight would not hesitate to pick up the master sword if wild is severely injured. while he may transform back as a human, he still is a swordsman at heart, and if he’s canine body cannot defend wild, then so be it, twilight would transform to his normal state & risk his life for wild. he will always be better & stronger with a sword than his beast form anyway.
while twilight calls wild ‘link’, wild does actually call him twilight! or twi for short. wild gave him the nickname for a few reasons.
1: his fur & the patterns in it. twilight’s fur is not just one brown, its a mix of brown that kinda resembles that mix of yellow-orange found literally at dusk/twilight. 2: twilight is actually most solemn & quiet at the twilight hours. wild can tell that he’s a bit distance during this time as if he’s thinking about something or rather, something is on his mind. 3: the twili magic that causes him to warp is obiously very twilight-esque. aside from the legends passed down, wild would most likley recognise this as twilight magic -- especially when they find midna’s helmet. because it only confirms that the legends are true: that twilight magic exists & that twilight has something to deal with it. 4: the sheikah slate actually registers twilight as twilight instead of link -- even if he were to be in his human form, the piece of technology considers him as that. besides, if twilight were to ever transform ( mind you he probably wouldn’t unless forced to ), twilight would say that his name is twilight.
does wild know that twilight is him but from another time? honestly, i don’t know.it’s up for debate. i probably could go either way to by honest, but i think my natural instinct is to say that no, wild does not realise that twilight is him but from another time. but that’s my 2 cents on the subject.
also: other names wild calls twilight is puppers, bud, & wolf/wolfie. twilight PREFERS twilight though, he feels a bit sentimental and happy when he’s called that. & it is ABSOLUTELY noticeable cause twilight will wag his tail when he is called twilight. don’t judge him.
more to come when i think of anything else.

Crazed Theory Time
So, I’m really into timeline theory (and have been for ages), and so I’ve got some thoughts on the timeline placement of BOTW, if anyone’s interested in reading.
Tumblr media
I know that most dominant theories I’ve read place it somewhere after twilight princess, because of that line that Zelda says, but I’m pretty sure that BOTW takes place in the fallen hero timeline after Zelda 1 and The Adventures of Link.
I’ve got a lot of reasons for thinking this, so hang on to your shields kids.
The first is just the general spirit of the game. I know that sounds vague, but I really feel like this game is the spiritual successor to the first two Zelda games. It contains a lot of elements from those games, which I’ll go into later. But it also captures that sense of adventure and a massive world out there to be explored at your leisure that the first two games tried in particular to capture. There’s that amazing open world with no real exposition of direction to get you started off. There’s that mysterious old man at the beginning. There’s also the fact that they used concept art from Zelda 1 in BOTW.
Tumblr media
                                                                                 Duelling Peaks anyone?
The Hyrule of BOTW feels to me like the Hyrule they imagined for the original games but were unable to realise. It’s the Hyrule of Zelda 1 and 2, and so it’s the Hyrule of the decline timeline.
Also, according to Zeldapedia the original Zelda was supposed to have Link travel through time between a medieval world and a futuristic one, and he was supposed to collect microchips. That had to be scrapped because of system limitations, but the time travel idea obviously got reused, and the microchip collection became the triforce shards. I don’t know about you guys, but I can really see the influence of that original idea on the Sheikah technology.
That’s it for the spirit of the games, what about actual in game evidence?
Lets start with the slightly more circumstantial evidence.
For one thing, in Zelda 2, in order to get the triforce from a mysterious old man, Link must fight his own shadow (which is the first appearance of Dark Link). While this connection is slightly oblique, it is highly reminiscent of the system of trials in BOTW.
Furthermore, there’s clear reference to a religion centred around the golden goddesses in the other timelines. There isn’t that in the decline timeline, so it makes sense that they were all worshiping Hylia and that just never came up in the games. Yes, I know there’s vague references to ‘gods’ (ie Triforce of the Gods, the Japanese title for ALttP). I know that this could be chocked up to Nintendo of America’s strict policy back in the day of leaving religious iconography out of their games, but let me have this. “BUT,” I hear you cry, “The oracle games feature Nayru, Din, and Farore as the oracles and they take place in the decline timeline.” Well, it seems to me like they’re not goddesses in those games. I suspect that even a sorceress of Veran’s power would be hard pressed to possess a proper goddess. And I don’t think they’d particularly need Link’s help. So they’re not actual goddesses, but they’re named after them. I can’t speak to Japanese culture, and I know for sure that this isn’t universal, but (at least in many Western cultures) it’s highly atypical to name a kid after a deity that’s being actively worshiped (yes I know Jesus is a typical Spanish name-- I said many). So I don’t think that the three golden goddesses are being actively worshiped in the decline timeline. This is on par with BOTW, where Hylia is the main deity, and though the spirits of Courage, Wisdom, and Power are still revered, they’re not the main deal.
Now onto the (slightly) more concrete evidence.
Lynels and Hinox have only appeared in games in the decline timeline, up till maybe this point.
Also, the decline timeline is the only other time we see someone placed in some sort of extended cryo-sleep, like Link is in BOTW. And that’s the ‘first’ Zelda from Zelda 2. “WAIT A HYLIA DARNED SECOND!” I hear you all shout, “Zelda the first was placed into a deep sleep by a wizard and she could only be awoken by the power of the triforce!”  Well my friends, if you told a medieval person about an iPad, I imagine they’d assume it was magic. So what if, just maybe Zelda the first was placed into the shrine of resurrection, and her brother blamed the sheikah technology for the whole thing, and so the tragedy of Zelda 1 was the event that turned the people of Hyrule against the Sheikah and their technology and spawned the Yiga clan. And then as the story was passed down the generations people forgot the advanced technology and so the teleportation iPads and giant stone beasts and eternal slumbers became just-- magic. Also remember, we’re told the story of Zelda 1 by Impa, so she’s maybe not necessarily the most reliable narrator ever, especially if she was potentially trying to protect her Sheikah brethren. Also, the light at the begining of BOTW suggests to me that it’s Zelda’s power (AKA the triforce) that wakes Link up, and it’s likewise the completed triforce that wakes up Zelda 1. Coincidence? Probably. I don’t know.
Speaking of the triforce, the decline timeline is the only timeline after the split that we see the royal family have and use the completed triforce like Zelda does in BOTW. Link doesn’t have the Triforce of courage like he does in a number of the other timelines-- Zelda’s got the whole thing in this one.
Also speaking of Impa, she really only shows up in the decline timeline as well. I know there’s Impaz in TP, but it’s not the same as Impa. Also, she’s only ever been shown to be a crusty old lady in the decline timeline (and SS, I know, but I’m talking post-timeline split, since we know BOTW is post Oot).
Also speaking of the Yiga clan, they’re always out for Link’s blood, and they plan to resurrect Ganon. In Zelda 2, Link is told that Ganon’s minions are out for his blood so they can sprinkle it on Ganon’s ashes to resurrect him. Sound familiar?
Also speaking of the plot to resurrect Ganon, that shows up fairly frequently in the decline timeline -- ALttP, ALbW (sort of), the oracle games, Zelda 2, you can argue that the Ganon in Zelda 1 was resurrected before the game starts. However, stopping the resurrection of Ganon isn’t a major theme in the games in any of the other timeline branches. Furthermore, when Ganon shows up in any other timeline, he starts out as a human and then will sometimes transform into beast Ganon. But in the decline timeline games, he starts out as beast Ganon, getting more bestial as the games progress. Almost as though each time he’s literally resurrected (not reborn or fetched out of an alternate dimension) he looses a little bits of his original humanity, until we end up at pig miasma Ganon in BOTW.
Also, there’s a maze island in the north east of the map in Zelda 2, as there is in BOTW.  Even though they’re of drastically different sizes...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, those weird trees in the lost wood look like the first dungeon from Zelda 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What about the Rito?” I assume you’re asking. “They only show up in WW, which is in the adult timeline!” Well, I have a whole lot to say about that, but I feel like this post is already too long, so let me know if you want to hear about that, and I’ll make a separate post about my theories on those guys.

Trinity’s Fic Recs
I’m putting this out in honor of Fanfic Writers’ Day (August 21), but I will continue to update it as fanfictions are released and as I read more of them or remember others from the past!
List includes Nanatsu no Taizai, Legend of Zelda, and Fullmetal Alchemist fanfictions (in that order).
Nanatsu no Taizai
Cold - Melliz oneshot The sight of her mangled body, armor crusted in blood crushed all of his anger under the unforgiving mountain of grief. No comforting warmth, no flame of determination, and no eruption of wrath. His world reduced to the bitter, biting cold; the memory of her lifeless body forever burned into his memory.
Have you ever had your heart ripped out and stomped on? Here, read this. Now you have. Join the club.
Wanting Something More - escalin oneshot After the battle at Castle Liones, Merlin retreats to her laboratory for research. But while there, she finds that for the first time, she must look outside of herself for strength. Oneshot
I don’t personally love escalin, at least not where it is at in the manga right now. However, the author deserves a shoutout for being one of the only individuals to write escalin or to take on the challenge of writing Merlin and succeed. Excellent read.
Watching Sin - silly group fic The Sins, King Baltra, Hawk and Elizabeth are pulled into a room to watch the Seven Deadly Sins anime...years before it happens. Watching the Seven Deadly Sins/Nanatsu No Taizai fanfiction. Interpret ships as you please. A little bit of swearing and canon typical violence.
Every character is a little OOC and the premise is wack; that’s exactly what makes this fic enjoyable. It’s just silly and wonderful because of it.
Ears - Helbram Harlequin bro times oneshot Before he became the Fairy King, Harlequin got picked on by the other fairies for his appearance quite a bit. Helbram is NOT okay with this. Just some child brotp-ing.
I just... I need more. The author portrays these two quite well, and their playful teasing (but extremely fond) interaction reads realistically. It’s so sweet!
Enlighten My Darkness - Melizabeth AU After years of a shaky peace between the goddesses and demons, something has begun to kill off their numbers once more. To their outrage, tainted beings of sorts are discovered to be the cause. But who is behind those? Two beings, also the strongest of their races, are sent to find out. Meliodas and Elizabeth, next leaders of their realms. This decision isn't one of the wisest. AU.
You know this fic. If you haven’t read it, you’ve seen it recommended more than once, I’m sure. Well, it deserves the kudos. The author develops both Meliodas and Elizabeth into well-rounded characters, and their extreme ideologies from the goddess and demon clans are believable. Plus, I’ve never seen sexual tension portrayed this well in a very very long time.
The Legend of Zelda
Dead Inside - Zelink, AU Seven lifetimes it's been since we've started remembering. Each time we'd vanquished the evil, and each time afterwards we had each other. We'd marry, we'd have children, we'd age, we'd be together. And then the cycle would start anew. But never did I consider what would happen if one of us were to die early. And what if they weren't reborn? Zelink AU. Rated M for violence.
I don’t care if you don’t ship Zelink. I don’t care if you actively hate the ship. The first chapter of this fic will have you hooked hard, and the author’s vibrant cast of characters and skillful handling of  secrets will keep you involved.
The King’s Bride - Zelink, AU For centuries, it has been tradition among the Gerudo for the newly crowned King to capture a maiden to be his wife. When his father dies, Link sets his eyes on the Princess of Hyrule, who's completely unwilling to comply. Will he convince her to be the Gerudo King's Bride, or will he realize he's bitten off more than he can chew? Zelink AU. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
Some people might not appreciate the premise of this fic and the ship that develops within it. That said, the characters are endearing, the relationship entrancing and believable, and the strong plot is driven by much, much more than a superficial insistence that the main characters kiss. Plus, if you’re a fan of series lore, this fic will make you itch in the best of ways.
Thief - AU I've been working at the Hylian Triforce Protection Agency for longer than I can remember. It never occurred to me that I might not have been fighting on the right side all these years; not until I'd met that weird, green-clad thief who flipped my perception of reality upside-down. Throw in the school hottie, a whole lot of secrets, some teenage angst and BAM! you have my life.
I haven’t checked back in on this fic in a while, and it may never be finished. What’s there is worth a read, however. The narrator (Zelda) is snappy and funny, and the premise is oh-so-interesting. The author distributed cameos and modified the world of Hyrule for a modern setting in some clever ways. A very entertaining read.
Kidnapping Zelda Harkinian - zelgan, AU My name's Ganon Dragmire, and this is the story of the time I was blackmailed into breaking a girl's heart. But that was back before I knew the weight of the secrets she carried, back before I learned about a reincarnation cycle centuries old. And it was long, long before I dreamed that I'd ever fall in love- especially so honestly, and especially with her. Ganon/Zelda.
In which Ganondorf narrates like Holden Caufield and provides a generally hilarious lens through which to experience a story. Heck, this fic is fun.
Fire to Fire - zelgan, episodic chapters For Ganondorf Dragmire, reincarnation doesn't mean rebirth. It means growing fresh skin over a withered core. It means feeding an addiction that doesn't die with age. It means watching Princess Zelda forget him, over… and over… and over. [Multichaptered, angsty, reincarnation!centric Zelgan six-shot]
This is one of my favorite Legend of Zelda fics ever. Even if you are not fond of the Zelda/Ganondorf ship, I thoroughly recommend it. The author uses evocative language with a skilled touch, and they are a master of imagery. I just... I love this fic.
Splendid, Indeed - post-TP, oneshot We are shallow, and therefore we are blind. Post-TP.
“This half-boy, half-man, in a terrible half-world.” I’m a sucker for ‘aftermath’ fics, especially for Twilight Princess. This drabble delivers thoroughly, with beautiful language and poetic prose. Saving the world is not beautiful.
Fullmetal Alchemist
The Ishvalan Accords - post-Promised Day, Ishvalan Ed AU  It's a year after the Promised Day, and Fuhrer Grumman, with General Mustang and his crew's assistance, wants to restore Ishval to its previous glory. When negotiations between Amestris and Ishval convene, why does a certain golden-eyed former alchemist seem so interested? Just what has he been hiding for so many years?
I just so appreciated the author’s handling of all the characters and the subtle way in which they developed not only the Ishvalan culture, but also the relationship between Ishval and Amestris, each of the characters’ reactions to situations, and what their Ishvalan identity means to the Elric brothers
Supplemental Rules and Regulations - canon It all began after Hawkeye got her dog, and spiraled downward from there. A chronicle of the day-to-day chaos of Eastern HQ, and the supplemental rules that grew out of it. Surprisingly, Ed and Alphonse are not the main culprits. Rated T, for safety.
This is, bar none, one of the most entertaining fics I’ve ever read. I keep it open in a tab on my phone and come back to any one of the 23 quick, amusing chapters for a laugh every now and then.
Giving Tree - canon-ish
There is no summary. No summary is necessary. Read this fanfiction; ‘nuff said.
Loyal Dogs and A Dog Half Feral- canon-divergent With all the conflict and tension between Amestris and Aerugo, it was inevitable that a war would break loose. Mustang, though, had always thought that he would be able to keep his young prodigy away from such a nightmarish ordeal.
Blue Exorcist
Much Ado About A Tail - canon
You know how you’ve always wanted to know what Rin thought about suddenly having a tail? Worry no more.
Father Material - canon AU
Satan!Rin AU. Darkly hilarious and (I think) the character of Satan is handled with great deftness and subtlety. Love it love it.
Light Exorcist, Light Exorcist: Scions - canon future fic
As A Demon Thinketh - canon divergent
Unbecoming - canon AU
My Hero Academia
Heroes of the Dark - villain!AU Uraraka has spent almost a year grieving the tragic loss of Deku, but she is slowly moving on. This is, until, Deku comes back into her life and shatters everything she's rebuilt. Except he's not what he seems. Something is wrong with him, and Uraraka will be damned if she lets the darkness take him again.
Tokyo Ghoul
A Pound of Flesh - canon-divergent Rank 1 Investigator Nagachika Hideyoshi has a secret. When he eats dinner at home with his two roommates, he's the only one not eating human flesh.
Circumvent  To Kaneki, it's just another assignment: destroy as many investigators as possible. However, the mission takes a dramatic turn when he discovers that a certain blond is among the CCG's ranks.
It’s Not Black and White Hide, despite being hailed as an investigative prodigy, has never been one to follow the rules. But after meeting a very dangerous and supposedly very "dead" SS-rank ghoul, breaking the rules becomes a million times more interesting.

The way the green tunic is used in Breath of the Wild is genius. As for the tunic itself, I love it. I understand how some people need to get used to it, but I don’t think “fuck this attire, just let me get the Ocarina green tunic I’ve seen for 20 years” is the right attitude with a game actively trying to be different. I’ll get back to the amiibo later. Btw, the pants I guess are there because they didn’t want us to see Link’s underwear. I still think the whole design works and fits with the art style.
Well, clearly Link not having a green tunic is symbolic of the game itself. We all thought the blue tunic was his starter outfit, and were surprised when we found out it was THE outfit, and not only that, you could wear whatever you wanted. Aonuma confirmed shortly before release the tunic would be in the game, and I predicted it would be something very late game. And I’m proud of them for actually going through with this. It works in so many different ways. And it really is an end game thing, there are two Divine Beasts you could do with it, but you’d have to conciously make that choice. The truth is, by the time you have solved all 120 shrines, you’ll have seen everything in this game. Getting it was the last thing I did before going to fight Ganon (I found out later there was still a sidequest with Kass to be done, but that’s it, I had seen everything).
The reason I love how they did this, apart from it being symbolical of the game breaking conventions, and it being pretty risky in a way, is how good it is for Link in this game, and how it makes you realize how special the green tunic actually is.
Playing this game, in which you truly are Link, in which he has no identity (with the simple but effective reasoning of memory loss), made me realize how much of a character he was in other games in comparison. Still the character to immerse us, but somebody you recognized as a character and somebody with previous story. And that’s what the green tunic makes you think of. It makes you think of Link. To truly make you connect to Link, which was what Breath of the Wild was aiming for, they had to get rid of that and make Link a blank slate.
And like I said, this also makes you realize how special this outfit and look truly are. Getting it actually made me emotional. Instant nostalgia. But it’s good that that comes at the end. That way it doesn’t interfere at the beginning, and makes the ending all the more special.
Back to the amiibos. I love that I can dress as TP Link. As you can see in the screenshot, I had unlocked all outfits (except the classic look, wasn’t a fan of the 8bit Link amiibo at the time). I didn’t put a single one on though, and didn’t complete the game with them either. I wanted to see what this Link looks like with the tunic when the time was right. And that’s the problem imo. Was watching Mike Matei from Cinemassacre play Breath of the Wild, and he got the classic tunic. Showed the game to James Rolfe, and his first time playing was with the Link from his favourite Zelda game, a game from his childhood. This just ruins the whole “what” effect, and everything I explained. I am glad the tunics are in the game, but they should have handled them differently. As it turns out, they even change Link’s hair, so they are a total throwback, and people play through the whole game like that. Speaks to the liberty of the game, but I dunno… Btw, don’t feel the same way about the Dark Link custome you can get in-game. That’s something different imo. Didn’t put it on either though lol
In conclusion, Breath of the Wild, it’s fucking awesome, I’m going to play the shit out of the DLC with the green tunic, I love how the hat bounces around, it’s really cute, and yeah, I understand how some people feel, Link’s other outfits aren’t as magical (though some are really cool and will become iconic in their own right) but I think this was important for this game.
Now that this has been established, I think they could go back to making it available from the start…but let’s see how it’s handled.
…you know you are a nerd when you can write this long a post about a videogame piece of clothing.
Oh, and how cool is it that it’s called the tunic of the wild, continuing that whole naming pattern.
