one thing i dont see talked about very often is the casual transmisogyny specific to nonbinary transfems especially those of us who have any kind of masculine presentation/pronouns. like as a bigender person i consider myself both a trans woman and a gay man at the same time in different parts and everyone just kind of sees that and goes "oh so youre not an actual trans woman so being transmisogynistic doesnt matter". and believe me i dont consider myself having it "worse" like im far safer irl than most binary post-transition transfems since i present masculinely irl and I constantly recognize that but when it comes to casual transmisogyny people are transmisogynistic in a very insidious way when youre nonbinary.

like people who would normally be really careful about checking themselves for transmisogyny just throw everything out the window when they realize youre nonbinary. you tell them you consider yourself a woman and a man at the same time, or anything in between, or have any kind of attachment to masculinity, and they immediately mentally categorize you as a man. it doesnt matter how you present, what you say, whether it's online or offline---if you're amab and don't fit the bill of being "woman enough" people online will go "thats a man" end of sentence.

the most painful part is that it comes from everybody. it comes from the cis lesbians that called that amab nonbinary person on tiktok a rapist for saying they liked when bi women primarily attracted to women were into them. it comes from the "femboy" obsessed tme transmascs and nbs who don't take your concerns about their transmisogyny seriously. and rarely, but most hurtfully, it comes from other trans women. anyone else remember when lesbianchemicalplant endlessly harassed a trans girl on here for daring to call her attraction to men gay? I do. I do because I saw it at a vulnerable time in my development and it made me repress myself for years because I thought being gay for men and a trans women were the most mutually exclusive things in the world and daring to say you can connect to both of those will get you labeled a Fake Transfem that's doing it for clout. i STILL get a feeling in the back of my mind that whenever i mention being a transfem after talking abt being a gay man people will be like "dont be ridiculous you're not REALLY transfem".

this of course comes from the fact that trans women are held to an impossibly high standards of femininity. you have to be a Capital W Woman to be taken seriously. meaning, of course, that you have to have long hair and thin shoulders and wear dresses and be skinny and short and attractive and usually white (unless they have a fetish for black women, then you can be black IF you hit the rest of those criteria). no matter what you can't be anything CLOSE to a man. make sure you take hrt and get The Surgery too and throw in some breast implants while you're at it.

if you're not rejecting every single part of you that could at all be associated with masculinity you're not even trying, you're just a man, you're just like all other men, and they don't have to care what you say about how you're treated. that type of transmisogyny is so deeply ingrained in literally everyone and its so depressing. it comes back to haunt ALL transfems but the way nonbinary transfems are treated is a perfect example of it.

Hi! Ok I hope it's ok if this will be long...

For context I've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder 7 times by different psychiatrists/hospitals, the most recent one changing it to schizoaffective bipolar. What I'll say is my own experience (an experience that is also shared by others I know)

I don't know what I would say as a beginners guide... I guess it's important to start by knowing bipolar isn't being sad sometimes and happy sometimes. Bipolar is a pattern of alternating between 2 mood states: depression and mania (or hypomania) each state encapsulating a host of symptoms.

As far as type 1 vs type 2... The difference between the two lies in the mania. Bipolar 2 has hypomania and Bipolar 1 has mania. Both have depression. the depression in both types can be severe and the severity of the depression does not indicate type 1 or 2.

Hypomania is a less impairing version of mania, but it still has a specific set of symptoms and criteria that make it different from just a "good mood". Both hypomania and mania are abnormal states.

Mania is going to be disruptive, impairs functioning, usually causes damage, and can often lead to hospitalization. It's not uncommon for mania to have psychosis with it.

They can both have increased energy and restlessness, racing thoughts, distractibility, pressured speech, grandiosity, feeling overly energetic despite a couple hours or no sleep, irritability, and aggression.

But the easiest way for me to explain is to re-create the scenario.

Hypomania: Getting 1 hour of sleep and still feeling energized, wanting to be active at all hours. Going on a $300 shopping trip I can't really afford. Feeling like everything is brighter, music is alive, and I'm the best artist. Getting kinda snippy. Cleaning the whole house and volunteering to clean other people's houses.

Mania: zero sleep for 48 or 72 hours at a time, not being able to stop moving, feeling on fire and as if I might explode if I ever stop. Spending thousands a.k.a. my entire savings on odd things like duplicates of the same items. Scratching myself bloody because my skin hurts, crying and laughing at the same time. I start tasks and abandon them as soon as I start, leaving a mess. Music becomes an obsession, the lyrics are speaking to me and telling me to do things. Everyone is mocking me. Anger outbursts, violent at times, including road rage incidents.

Both of these end abruptly and plummet into severe depression.

I don't know what I wish I knew... I guess I wish I knew how hard it would be to manage it. Having to keep everything in my life stable in order to keep myself stable. I thought if I just had the right pill I'd go back to "normal".

I also wish I'd known if you have mania you can't "pump the brakes". I kept trying to trigger hypomania in myself thinking I could accomplish so much. But in reality I would hit mania and accomplish nothing. I just spin my wheels, become a volcano, and everything falls apart. I still fall for it sometimes though.

Fuck, I love these two.

Let's start from the top.

Gun and Goo might not always get on, often behaving more like a bickering old married couple one step away from throttling each other, but they absolutely respect one another.

Begrudgingly so. Meeting someone that can go toe to toe with them does not happen every day.

Being secret friends or successor though, is completely out of the question. They never even considered it in the first place despite Gun ticking most of Goo's criteria and vice versa.

Both completely unhinged and chaotic in very different, often clashing, ways. Finding each other grating, fighting skills complementing each other due to circumstance rather than naturally.

Gun thinks of Goo as a disloyal, flighty and greedy maniac. Whereas Goo sees Gun as a dull stick-in-the-mud who only cares about fighting.

They're both right.

Gun doesn't care much for material goods. He will still buy the best of the best, because why the hell not. However, he does not form any sentimental attachment to it.

Goo is surprisingly similar. Often preferring shopping sprees as a form of a power trip and to show off how rich he is. There is a fleeting thrill of buying something he wants, but ultimately it gets discarded.

Stealing Gun's things, on the other hand, much more rewarding for Goo.

The first time he laid eyes on Gun wearing the striped yellow shirt and scarf combo, Goo knew he had to have it. Besides, it would look much nicer on him, dont you think? What the hell is Gun Park doing wearing such bright colours anyway.

In all honesty, Gun doesn't waste enough energy on clothing to say anything when he saw Goo in his outfit. Although he did roll his eyes and take an extra long drag of his cigarette.

(A/N: I love the idea of Goo stealing Gun's clothes. But I tend to flip flop between how private Gun is, keeping his work and personal life completely separate. )

If the outfit isn't stolen, then it would mean Goo went out and bought the exact same thing... Which is funnier if you think about it.

Because the sheer amount of effort that that takes, finding the same top, same scarf - because why the fuck would Gun tell him where he got it even if Goo did ask.

The fact that Goo takes a significant time out of his day just to fuck with Gun. Truly, what an idiot. Does he have nothing better to do?

Spending so much time together, they pick up naturally on each other's likes and dislikes. Well, Gun does anyway. Goo does most of the talking, and the few times Gun does talk - Goo doesn't even bother to listen.

Unfortunately, that means if someone asked Gun what happened on the latest episode of an anime series, he would be able to recite exactly what Goo has told him, and then afterwards beat them up for asking in the first place.

There's a closeness there that disgusts them both equally with how well they know each other. Music preferences, how they take their coffee. Knowing each other's mood like their own. Ugh.

Life carries on though and there's still shit to do. WIth most of their waking moments spent together, they weave in their own errands between jobs and missions.

At least Goo does. Gun's life is much more orderly instead of a whirlwind of chaos. He is proactive and reactive whereas it appears to him that Goo will just fulfil his own whims as they come up.

Either way, Goo is the one driving and it's his car so Gun has no choice but to go with.

Well. Gun can stay in the car like some sort of pitiful dog awaiting their master's return or join in with Goo.

He usually opts for the latter, and also regrets it too. For example, getting cookies together for fuck's sake. Grabbing ice cream. Ring shopping!

Really, don't let anyone tell you that Gun is impatient. He puts up with far too much from his blonde partner. He can be extremely level headed, often choosing to walk away from things not worth his time rather than waste his energy. There's a lot of hill where he would prefer not to die on where Goo Kim is concerned.

If you asked Goo what was the one thing he hated most about Gun, the ensuing silence would be the longest he has ever been quiet for. Because there really is so much he hates about that fucking guy.

Just one? Then Goo would likely say the smoking. Not only does it stink, but the smell seeps into the car interior and lingers on everything. Goo often likes to pretend he's choking when Gun lights up. Putting on a coughing fit and spraying spittle everywhere until Gun walks away in disgust.

If you asked Gun what he hated most about Goo Kim? Completely deadpan and straight faced, he would say 'everything'.

bit of an origins-discourse take + mild rant: I get the wish for separate communities, and sure, to some degree it's possible and healthy to do. however, the idea that endogenic plurality and non-endogenic plurality are totally and completely separate and should never touch, is, practically speaking, both impossible and potentially pretty harmful.

-> the systems who start out thinking they're endogenic, but actually just don't remember their trauma and/or don't think it could have "counted": if endogenic communities aren't connected to CDD spaces, those systems are going to have a hell of a lot harder of a time trying to get appropriate and accurate resources, or even recognize disordered symptoms in the first place. "they should just go to CDD spaces" how?? if they've always ID'd as endogenic, and all CDD spaces all have "endos keep out" plastered over the front doors, why would they ever feel welcome?

-> the systems who are traumagenic, but also genuinely relate to many endogenic system experiences: these people exist. not all traumagenic systems find endogenic experiences relatable, but plenty of them actually do. also, sometimes traumagenic systems participate in practices (spiritual traditions, daemonism, intentional system member creation, etc) that overlap with endogenic plurality. -> endogenic systems with post-system-origins trauma, mixed origin systems, systems who "maybe fit CDD criteria but maybe don't, it's a gray area": even if they aren't experiencing 100% exactly the same thing as a textbook traumagenic CDD system, they still likely have a whole lot in common, and might benefit a ton from CDD resources and recovery-oriented system spaces. it's not like CDD experiences are a single homogeneous thing anyways.

-> advocating for awareness and acceptance of systems and CDDs in society: we're all on the same team on that front, and the more that different parts of the system community are willing to work together, the more leverage we have to actually change things--and the more we can make sure that no one gets thrown under the bus. a society that's okay with systems only in the context of a disorder isn't going to be accepting of functional multiplicity, and invites a ton of gatekeeping as to who 'actually' is disordered enough; a society that's okay with systems only if they're *not* related to a disorder is ableist. Anyways. this isn't saying that every individual system space ever has to be a mixed community! but the idea that all plurality can easily be divided into two completely separate categories is fundamentally flawed, and more systems will be helped by a community that is less focused on labels and more focused on the experiences behind them. hope you have a great day <3

A long way to go

He knew there was a possibility of being sent away.

He was aware that he would not be greeted beaming with joy with a huge hug and tears of joy in his eyes.

He knew that he had a lot to explain.

And Thor met the above criteria. He simply stood speechless in front of Loki.

Loki fidgeted a little, played with his fingers and thought about what he could say to make Thor look less angry.

Then the God of Thunder moved towards him.

And this calm, almost relaxed gait made Loki a thousand times more nervous. And the fact that the Avengers were all standing around them didn't make it any better.

Thor kept up the calm and slow gait the whole time, his face showing only anger and maybe a spark of confusion.

Loki wanted to speak. Several times, but it seemed as if something was wrapped around his throat and prevented him from doing so. Thanos is not here, he told himself. He can't hurt me, he told himself. Then why can't I breathe?

Thor stood in front of him and Loki was shaking nervously like leaves in the wind and looked into Thor's differently colored eyes.

What would come next? A happy hug? Thor's beaming smile and a relieved exhalation? A hand gently placed on the back of his neck and a smile and headbutt from Thor?

The blow to the nose occurred to him too late and before he could duck, the pain exploded in his face, a disgusting crack filled his ears and he fell to the ground with full force, his head being thrown dangerously backwards.

His instincts told him that he had to get up again as quickly as possible and defend himself. But he suppressed the urge and remained lying on his stomach, one leg bent and his face hidden by his hair and his hand that was carefully feeling his nose.

He could hear Thor's heavy breathing and the stones crunching under his shoes.

Then Thor moved away from him. Loki peeked between his hair and saw Thor walking quickly back to the houses.

So he had done it. He had finally made Thor hate him. And that was right. Loki had done a lot of bad things, even if the dying that Thor thought he was acting out was actually pretty much a near-death experience. He was glad that his magic had always been able to keep him from dying. But Thor thought it was all a lie.

Loki put his bloody hands on the ground and pushed himself onto his knees.

He stood up as slowly as possible, but he still felt dizzy and had a bad headache. Thor was now standing on the edge of the bridge that led to the village and just looked at the sea.

So that was it. Loki had finally lost his place next to his brother.

Exhaustion overcame him and he turned in the direction of his spaceship and marched towards it.

Bruce of all people was following him.

"Loki, wait a minute." The Doctor shouted. Then he stopped suddenly and flinched as Loki pulled out a gun out of nowhere, fired a warning shot on the ground next to the Doctor and then aimed the gun warningly at his chest.

Thor hadn't moved a bit.

Bruce raised his palms and signaled that he was stepping back.

Loki's face was full of determination, but at the same time full of anger and perhaps pain. Bruce didn't know whether the pain came from his broken nose or the pain of having just been rejected. Most likely both.

Loki put the gun away and went into the ship. The hatch was closed, he sat down at the control panel and started the engines.

And the Avengers watched as the ship lifted off and disappeared into space.

Loki could only see the blue of the sky, which eventually turned into endless and desolate black.

What he didn't see was Thor's face, filled with pain and anger, looking after him. He didn't see Thor hanging his head in remorse and defeat, breaking down a little inside.

Loki had overstretched his brother's patience.

But he still hoped that he could stay and finally explain. That he could find and accept his place next to his brother.

That he could be one of the good people.

And yet he knew there was a possibility of being sent away.

Two Strange Magic thoughts that I had:

1) it is interesting to me how, for all that it is movie about fairies and elves and goblins, based on Midsummer Night's Dream, magic seems curiously absent; only one who shows magical abilities is Sugarplum, who is visibly entirely different sort of fairy from everybody else, and even then she more, makes potions than any inherent power?

2) I know I am overthinking it because it is just gag and bit given conventions in this sort of cartoon but; we see Bog courted by insects and animals and later Roland gets together with one of foiled suitors (the fly); so I wonder how sentient are animals in here, whats their relationship to more humanoid creatures, and how do relationships work?

personally i rly like how sparingly magic is used! it prevents the story from turning into the kind of thing where either everyone is always using magic to kinda arbitrarily solve all problems or else magic is obviously present but left largely unused in a way that makes you wonder why more people dont use it to solve the plots problems.

im also in favor of creatures that are kind of fantastical in nature but not inherently capable of wielding magic, and i like that plum is very noticeably set apart from other fairies by her use of it, to the point where (by my interpretation at least) she appears to have been physically transformed by it. and she does use some magic outside the potion making! mostly to change size and shape and make little mini-me fairies for dramatic effect lol so fair point. i guess its implied some kind of magic must have been used to trap her but i dont think we ever learn exactly who did it or how. makes ya think!

to the second point, first of all, i love how many bugs are in this movie!!!! ive said before i think probably a lot of the more animal/insectoid creatures in the dark forest are in fact goblins whove just evolved to look like that, but it def does raise questions about like. the lizard who gets love potion'd for example. like i think were supposed to take her as literally an animal because she doesnt talk and tries to eat sunny and dawn at the beginning, but then again she certainly wouldnt be the only sapient creature in the movie who also fits that criteria! and roland rides a squirrel as a mount so clearly thats got some weird implications if animals are fully intelligent here!

like yea its fantasy cartoon logic but its interesting! for all intents and purposes the dynamics here seem to suggest, at least to me, that animals and insects and such are thinking creatures but that they are still largely driven by the same instincts we know them for in the real world, and that the fairies and goblins and so on just kinda live with the fact that their world is populated by beings that both can and may communicate with them as equals, but will still try and eat them just because a lizard is big and an elf is small and full of meats and that generally overrides any common ground they might have as intelligent lifeforms. its dark, i kinda love it!!

headcanon. clinical mental health talk below the cut, it's LONG.

raikov has a number of mental health issues. due to the nature of mental health awareness - not to mention mental health awareness for men - in the 1960s, especially in the soviet union, he never actually gets any of these diagnosed. obviously, he still suffers from them regardless, and his symptoms are both distressing and impairing for him. the disorders in question are:

⍟ unspecified trauma- and stressor-related disorder (due to his childhood and abuse during his time in the military) ⍟ borderline personality disorder (bpd) ⍟ histrionic personality disorder (hpd) ⍟ and dependent personality disorder (dpd).

since i really like talking about mental health, i thought i'd make a little post explaining them in a bit of detail ! please bear in mind i am not a professional, just a mentally ill person who knows what i'm talking about. all criteria is taken from the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, fifth edition. not using the international classification of diseases 11th edition (icd-11), nor the one from the 1960s (icd-7), or the dsm-i because they all suck ass ❤ also dont be ableist ill be hoo boy ill be cranky

UNSPECIFIED TRAUMA- AND STRESSOR-RELATED DISORDER

most people know about post traumatic stress disorder, and / or complex post traumatic stress disorder, but people often don't realise there's more disorders under the "trauma- and stressor-related disorders" category. there's acute stress disorder, reactive attachment disorder, disinhibited social engagement disorder, and adjustment disorders.

however, there are also two other disorders under the category ; otherwise specified trauma- and stressor-related disorder, for diagnoses that don't exactly fit the criteria for any of the others, and unspecified trauma- and stressor-related disorder, which is a diagnosis for a) people who don't have enough symptoms to meet the criteria for another disorder, or b) when there isn't enough information to make a diagnosis of another disorder. in these circumstances, a diagnosis of "unspecified trauma- and stressor-related disorder" is given.

in raikov's case, he has many symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (nightmares, flashbacks, hyperarousal / hypervigilance, and dissociation) due to the abuse he suffered during his early years in the military, but his symptoms are not frequent enough to qualify for a diagnosis of ptsd. they're more intermittent than a repeated and constant presence in his life, only occasionally cropping up when he's reminded of them. hence, his experience falls under unspecified trauma- and stressor-related disorder.

from here on, i'll include the criteria for each disorder and will bold the symptoms i feel raikov meets, at least in my interpretation !

BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER

borderline personality disorder is characterised by instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity. patients need to meet five (or more) of the criteria to be diagnosed.

frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment

a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterised by alternating between extremes of idealisation and devaluation

identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self

impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating)

recurrent suicidal behaviour, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behaviour

affective instability due to marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)

chronic feelings of emptiness

inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

raikov is an incredibly impulsive and angry person, and we can see that ingame. he goes where he wants, when he wants, and his planning is exceptionally short-term. he'll get angry at you for the crime of standing in front of him and physically assault you for it. he's constantly snapping and whining at people. both the soldiers and scientists react to his presence with fear, again hinting at how often he takes his anger out on them.

away from the game, however, and more on my personal interpretation : raikov deals with mood swings HEAVILY. he's incredibly attached to volgin, would quite literally rather die than be without him and fully gives up on life after he "dies", and as such, his opinion of him can turn on a dime under the wrong circumstances. whether that's misinterpreting the colonel's words as personal attacks, or even assuming any negative emotions are because of himself. it doesn't stop at volgin, either ; anyone who misspeaks around him risks incurring his wrath or his devastating sadness, and god knows the consequences aren't pretty.

he also binge eats, something fairly obvious, and he's always having incredibly risky sex, as well as generally having no concept of money or budgeting ( though, does he really have to when his beloved has the philosopher's legacy ? ) he often feels empty, like he's hollow and doesn't mean anything or doesn't hold anything substantial inside him. he often feels torn in regards to his identity, and struggles to comprehend that he doesn't need to be a specific "role", but can be many at once. his excessive dramatics do result in him threatening suicide to his subordinates, or even to his lover if he's feeling exceedingly bad, but they often don't go anywhere, but in the moment, the emotions are completely real and honest for him.

of course, paranoia is somewhat justified in their environment and particularly during the events of mgs3, but raikov finds ways to be paranoid even when he's as secure as a princess in a tower.

HISTRIONIC PERSONALITY DISORDER

histrionic personality disorder is characterised by excessive emotionality and attention seeking, with patients needing to have at least five of the eight criteria to be diagnosed.

is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention

interaction with others is often characterised by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behaviour

displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions

consistently uses physical appearance to draw attention to self

has a style of speech that is excessively impressionistic and lacking in detail

shows self-dramatisation, theatricality, and exaggerated expression of emotion

is suggestible (i.e., easily influenced by others or circumstances)

considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are

raikov ticks basically all of these boxes. he hates not being the centre of attention, be it from his partner or anybody else, but typically tries to mask it behind a mild-mannered persona that doesn't have much of substance to say. he's consistently dramatic and over-the-top, be that in affect or in action, shown by his displays of excessive emotionality whenever he feels personally slighted or angered. these emotions switch in a blink, and he's somewhat mastered the art of snapping between them. oftentimes he doesn't feel these emotions extremely deeply, or even at all ; they're all theatrical and false, used to pull eyes his way.

being an exceptionally beautiful man, he's no stranger to bringing attention to himself by using his appearance. it's something he does very often, whether that's in the bedroom, out of the bedroom, in public, in private... he's constantly on the lookout for the most flattering outfits to show himself off, even if it's at a detriment to his own comfort and identity. he constantly craves to be something, to be novel and interesting. he deeply fears being ordinary, or being forgotten, or like his novelty has worn off, so he's constantly seeking out more ways of drawing attention to himself.

when his interactions with people aren't solely sadistic and rude, or utterly flippant and dismissive, he's very sexually charged, constantly getting up close with others and being flirtatious. if he's not being seductive, he's deliberately trying to provoke and annoy people. his speech often features broad and sweeping statements, and he tends to be unable to pinpoint exacts when he's talking about things. he masks this with the idea that other people just couldn't understand what he's talking about, but it's actually because he focuses more on his own emotionality than the objective truths about a situation. for example, harping on about how rude someone was to him without actually saying anything that they did wrong.

DEPENDENT PERSONALITY DISORDER

dependent personality disorder is characterised by a pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of that leads to submissive and clinging behaviour and fears of separation. patients need to meet five or more of the criteria to be diagnosed.

has difficulty making everyday decisions without an excessive amount of advice and reassurance from others

needs others to assume responsibility for most major areas of his or her life

has difficulty expressing disagreement with orders because of fear of loss of support or approval

has difficulty initiating projects or doing things on his or her own (because of a lack of self-confidence in judgement or abilities rather than a lack of motivation and energy)

goes to excessive lengths to obtain nurturance and support from others, to the point of volunteering to do things that are unpleasant

feels uncomfortable or helpless when alone because of exaggerated fears of being unable to care for himself or herself

urgently seeks another relationship as a source of care and support when a close relationship ends

is unrealistically preoccupied with fears of being left to take care of himself or herself

somewhat of a surprise, this one. raikov is heavily dependent, though he doesn't show it much. he relies heavily on volgin for just about everything, and following his "death", raikov essentially gives up entirely on life. he doesn't fight back, he doesn't do anything, he resigns himself to his fate of rotting away in a cell. when found by big boss' renegade team, he requires an excessive amount of convincing in order to actually join the group, only agreeing when the topic of getting revenge is brought up. even then, he seems almost content to just stay there, perhaps a subtle nod to him finding it difficult to step out of the promise of security.

especially during his late teens, raikov was horribly self-sacrificial, allowing himself to take the brunt of any bullying and never fighting back due to his own cowardice. he prefers to just go along with anything that gives him security, because he doesn't like being left to his own devices. he spent so long under instruction from others - his family, his coaches and teachers, the military - that he truly doesn't know how to govern his own life without someone telling him what to do. it's one of the reasons why he leans so heavily into the benefits he receives from being volgin's lover -- he has everything provided for him, he doesn't need to take care of himself. he deeply appreciates - and in some ways, intentionally invokes - volgin's overprotectiveness and dominance over him for this exact reason. as funny as his little panties with a lightning bolt are for most, he finds them a constant reminder of security.

as a major for GRU, a lot of these traits fly under the radar to most given how domineering and self-assured he often appears to be, but he's often second-guessing his decisions. it just so happens these manifest internally rather than externally.

WHY NOT ASPD?

this is a question i'd imagine some people might be asking. antisocial personality disorder is a personality disorder characterised by a disregard for and violation of the rights of others, including symptoms such as ; deceitfulness, impulsivity, irritability and aggressiveness, reckless disregard for the safety of self and others, lack of remorse, and consistent irresponsibility. on the surface, this sounds a lot like raikov, but i personally don't think it fits.

people often forget that for disorders to be considered disorders, they need to cause at least one of two things : functional impairment and clinical distress. what this means is that if you have symptoms of a disorder but they aren't causing you any distress, or they don't disrupt your life in any way, those symptoms cannot clinically be labelled a disorder. though that doesn't stop people from wrongly diagnosing it, of course.

ivan is one such case of this. he is irritable and aggressive, disregards the feelings and rights of others, lacks remorse, and is consistently irresponsible -- but these aren't things he struggles with. he isn't impaired by them, nor does he find them distressing ; henceforth, he wouldn't meet the criteria for aspd. the disorder also requires evidence of conduct disorder before the age of fifteen, so in my personal backstory for him, he wouldn't meet this criteria either.

one of the differential diagnoses for aspd is this exact thing :

Criminal behaviour not associated with a personality disorder. Antisocial personality disorder must be distinguished from criminal behaviour undertaken for gain that is not accompanied by the personality features characteristic of this disorder. Only when antisocial personality traits are inflexible, maladaptive, and persistent and cause significant functional impairment or subjective distress do they constitute antisocial personality disorder.

which, in my opinion, fits raikov a lot better. he's an asshole who happens to be mentally ill ; his mental illnesses aren't what makes him an asshole. in a similar vein, i believe he would fit histrionic personality disorder over narcissistic personality disorder for a lot of other reasons i could go into (such as hpd requiring attention and npd requiring admiration), but this post is long enough already.

i suck at ranking things and don't enjoy it one bit because i don't do faves, im too fluid in my tastes and can't ever pick criteria but! let's try in no particular order

1. Kieta Hatsukoi

i think im in the habit of dropping things from my fave lists as time goes by and especially if they're well beloved by other people like "okay then I'll focus on this less talked about thing, my bby seems to be getting enough attention"; how and why I work that way im not sure but I do and by that logic kieta hatsukoi should not be on my list but it's an honorary member - I've watched it twice (with maybe a bit of skipping which is still a lot cause I don't really do rewatches) and I've read most of the manga. it's just so..easy to like, for a lack of a better phrase. it's inoffensive and suited to be a comfort piece of media in whichever form you decide to enjoy it (and it'd make an amazing anime, i guarantee people would be all over it)

the live adaptation also takes the events of the manga and mixes them around big time but it still makes sense and it keeps you a bit more on your toes when consuming the other version, whether you watch the show or read the manga first

it's also a show I've recommended passionately and I successfully made my then new acquaintance watch which I'm a bit smug about lmao

sweet characters, supportive friends, funny, light and warm 💖

2. The End of the World With You

this showwww, i dont know if i can call it a fave since i havent once come back to it, i dont feel the need to go watch compilations of my guys or anything and i acknowledge there were some elements i found a bit lacking but! it's amazing. idc, this show gave me proper complex relationship where i still end up rooting for a couple of people who were toxic towards each other and did nootttt know how to handle a relationship; the dynamic is compelling, the premise is interesting enough, there are heavy scenes and plot points but it is embedded with hope

it also helped me bond a bit with a mutual i like <3

i just am thankful for it existing out there in the world, it served fucked up relationship (that i root for wholeheartedly), sexy times, found family, amazing acting and it didnt have most of the chaos an apocalyptic piece would usually be dealing with

3. BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita: Crank Up Hen

listen. we're getting some pretty good jbls this year but i said this will be jbl of the year and i still think it's a solid nominee.

the romance is tooth-achingly sweet. the leads are adorable. the acting is perfect and manages to deliver the comedy very well. it's cute, it's fun, it knows exactly what it wants to achieve and works with its timeframe to do it. the side characters do not affect the plot negatively, the hurdles the couple needs to overcome do not feel excessive. if you happen to yell at them for being silly, it's lovingly. also we got more chemistry than i expected! and it was really good. it also set up an example for ''japanese actors working on bls'' (found the things like shooting promos and the portrayed bts process really fun) so now watching 25 ji Ajisaka de i can't help but think of this show

4. Utsukushii Kare

my relationship with this show suffers from the "enough people love it" thing as well, i think i rewatched it or skipped through the first season? and i enjoyed the second one as well but honestly it feels not only as if enough people love it but that they love it and get it way better than i do. i didnt watch the movie out of fear of having to say bye to my guys but i also feel more disconnected from it now. im sure its still a gem of a movie and im so so happy we got two seasons and a movie, the show and the cast deserve it!!

there is just so much beauty in their yearning for each other and the misunderstandings, the downright stupid decisions they make..they all just work in making this a neat story of love that blooms from something different, from worship and the desire to be seen and to be held and to be possesed. they're wild, i love them

5. Kinou Nani Tabeta?

this show i watched years before i got into bl and i didn't even know it was a bl when i started it lol, i was like "ohhh, theyre a couple? cool"

i rewatched the first season, watched the special and the movie, started the second season and kinda got stuck there, again with hte "i dont want to let them go"..and now ive lost momentum and ive got basically a whole season ahead (i started it when it was airing 😭)

these two love each other so much and support each other in every way that matters, my heart melts at every sweet gesture and even though the show portrays some real struggles they have to deal with, its still a very funny and light show. the best word to describe it would be "charming" - you see this couple's everyday life, you see how they came to be and what challenges they face, how they overcome them and you're left with no doubt in your mind they will grow old together, well loved and taken care of

now I wanted ti turn this into a top 10 but I felt like I was being disingenuous cause I can't overcome my need to talk about underrated shows rather than pick my faves..I can't make a faves list without turning it into a diverse recommendation list so I'll just. stop here.

a fond memory involving food.. preparing food the whole day before my birthday (maybe my seventeenth?) - sushi, spring rolls, i think I made dessert too? and then having picnic with my friends who were all in awe and praising me. I felt very appreciated and truly celebrated and it was a fun party 💖

Just saw your post in the tag about the Vees being "irredeemable" and I'm curious as to why you feel that way. It's a pretty common sentiment so you have company, I just personally struggle to see the justification for it especially in a show where the main theme is that anyone can be redeemed/deserves a second chance (or at least that is Charlie's goal).

We know that 1.) Charlie wanted to spare Adam, an angel that had been committing a devastating genocide against her people for decades, 2.) Charlie tries to see the good in Alastor even though he's a psychopathic cannibal that she recognizes isn't completely on board with her goals (and actively participates in the oppressive soul ownership system) and 3.) Charlie forgave Vaggie who actively participated in the genocide against her people. I'd argue Angel Dust and Pentious are far more sympathetic characters (to both us, the audience, and Charlie herself) since we are told virtually nothing about their crimes that landed them in Hell and we meet them when they're both at their lowest.

While I understand everyone has their favorites and the show likely isn't interested in exploring its central theme too deeply, I do think it would be such a missed opportunity not to have Charlie confronted with the hypocrisy of offering salvation to some but not all - to stumble in her beliefs and be forced to claim some people are "irredeemable". What does that arbitrary determination criteria look like to her? How is she equipped to make those decisions?

And, if the criteria to get into Heaven, isn't to actually confront your past and current life but rather sacrifice yourself for others (based on Pentious and his ascension) then that's absolutely (in my opinion) something the Vees would be capable of. If Charlie can look past the crimes of Adam and Alastor and offer them grace then she should be capable of doing that for characters like Vox, Velvette, and even Valentino.

I personally think it would add a lot to Charlie's character if she had to actually stand firmly in her convictions that every sinner has the capacity to change OR for her to grapple with the fact she is biased and her ideology is inherently flawed.

But those are just my thoughts. Like I said, I see "the Vees are irredeemable" get echoed quite a bit but am always curious where it stems from. I think there are a lot of good arguments to be made, but the setting/core theme of the show really challenges them (for me anyway). I think a bigger issue you'd run into is certain characters not wanting redemption at all, but with some plot adjustment I think you could make it work since so many of the characters are still blank slates this early on. And I hope it goes without saying but I'm not excusing the actions of any of these characters, simply challenging the idea of who is really "irredeemable" in a show where every single person is bad and they are already in "Hell" facing judgment for their transgressions.

I appreciate that you asked this in a nice way, people often get very upset over it. Vox is actually one of my favorite characters. And if any of the vees were to get redeemed I think it'd be him. He is desperate to love, he loved alastor and now chases Valentino. And if sacrifice truly is the way to get to heaven, I can't really see Valentino being the one to sacrifice himself. At least, not how he currently is. I don't know enough about velvette to make a correct assumption. And to be fair we don't truly know how vox feels about angel. He may have called him a wh*re because he was trying to relate and calm down Valentino in that moment.

The only reason I feel they can't be redeemed is because they have the same mindset alastor currently does:

1) redemption isn't possible

2) I dont want to go to heaven if it was
