with how the splat 3 fanbase is acting about splatfests, you'd think there's something real and tangible on the line and not like, superficial bragging rights and a few extra snails. idk why people are sitting here and getting angry at shiver as if she's a real person who has any actual will to do anything and not just pixels on a screen, especially when there are legitimate issues with how splatfests are designed and run in splat3, and that's the devs and nintendo's fault, not shiver. she's not real and she can't do anything to you. and i've seen way more complaining about the concept of "toxic shiver stans who always pick shiver and ruin it for everyone" than i have any actual evidence that these kind of people exist on a mass scale. it really feels like that kind of person is a guy that the fanbase made up to be mad at every time they lose. i agree that there are huge problems with splat 3 but the moment someone lays the blame on shiver they throw all credibility out the window. it's not shiver, there's no evil cult of shiver stans manipulating the splatfests, and don't get me started on how people are talking about the asian playerbase with these splatfests.

streaming interruptions
georgenotfound x streamer reader
summary: you decide to have a peaceful, early stream. unfortunately, george has other plans in mind.  w/c: 0.8k  a/n: let’s go, first fan-fiction completed! it’s not the best but hope y’all enjoy this! cw: slight language, slight cursing and lots of fluff Instead of taking a well-deserved break from streaming, here you were talking to your estatic chat at 11 in the morning. No matter how hard you tried, it was impossible to just leave your endearing community in the dark. They meant the whole world to you as they felt the same about their streamer, (Y/N).
With a following of over 500,000 on Twitch alone, your platform grew incredibly fast along with other web personalities. Unlike other content creators on the internet, you enjoyed showing your face at times. Ever since a certain someone complimented your appearance, you grew the confidence to show your face to your community, the world and friends.
“Hiya, everyone! Guess who is back on the never-ending streaming train?” You exclaimed, smiling directly at the camera. To amuse your audience, you faltered your smile their snarky comments. “C’mon guys, why do you guys doubt me so much...”
While watching the chat zoom by with more warm welcomes and remarks, you spotted one particular username fly through the buzzing chat box — your nemesis yet good friend, GeorgeNotFound.
Whenever the two of you are in a voice chat together, havoc is always bound to strike. From petty fights to full-on PVP battles, the (Y/N) George duo never backs down from a challenge, especially from each other. Whether on-screen or behind the cameras, the friendship between both of you cannot be explained even by your closest friends.
Due to your abrupt daydreaming session, the audience suspected an unknown distraction took your attention away from the stream. However, it was a donation and the chat suddenly increasing speed that snapped you out of your brief trance.
GeorgeNotFound just donated $500
start your mickey mouse stream already or actually get a real job LMAO
A smile grew a little too quickly on your face which went unnoticed. You cracked your fingers, preparing to retaliate against the man who dared to one-up you.
“Thank you, George for the five-hundred dollar donation and the very helpful reminder,” you replied. “I just remembered I was planning on burning down our Minecraft cottage, silly me!”
Due to the following message ‘DON’T YOU DARE’ being spammed numerously in the chat by the upset content creator, you joined your survival world in hopes of finally being left alone. Unfortunately, your enemy joined the game and immediately demanded to be added to your call.
“(Y/N), how could you possibly destroy our home,” says an unhappy George as you adjust the volume of his microphone. You looked at the camera, and rolled your eyes in amusement.
“It’s not like I wanted to, but it’s a complete mess!”
Tension and silence filled the air for a brief moment before he released a raspy cry through your headphones.
You managed to hold in a chuckle before inhaling to apologize. “C’mon, I’m sorry. You have to admit, the dimensions of the house is so hideous-”
“Then, it’s OUR hideous house idiot,” he interjected loudly. “We built it together Y/N, so it’s very special to me! You may not see value in it, but I do.
You laughed his remark off but this sudden comment made your heart skip a beat. George had never said anything this unusual before. So for once, you did not have a comeback.
Silence crept back into the call but not until George started a small giggling fit which resulted with letting out piles of laughter. “CHAT, I GOT THEM, look at this loser!”
Confused about what got him so riled up, you stayed silent until you heard the sound of flickering flames in-game. Moving your mouse around, you paused once you realized your beloved cottage was burning to a crisp.
You covered your face with your hands, not bothering to look at chats’ expected thread of L’s. The distraction should have been obvious to you at the start, but you were oblivious to it because of the commotion George caused.
“You actually fell for it, how gullible are you (Y/N)?” You watched as his character crouched and spin in front of yours, appearing to be doing a victory dance.
“Gullible enough to actually think you cared about what we did together,” you sighed.
“Wait, hey I d-“
You deafened on Discord and looked over at your chat box. Messages mimicking George’s last words soured through the screen, tugging a grin on your lips.
“Chat, I think it’s best I hop off for the sake of my sanity and yours! Today was surprising and eventful, but I hope you enjoyed the stream!”
You clicked the undeafen button to quickly tell George to say farewell yet received something entirely different in return.
“Shit, shit, shit. What the hell is their favorite flower?” His little avatar ran around the biome in search of flowers. “This is impossible!”
Rolling your eyes, you heaved a deep sigh. “It’s (F/F) and don’t worry, I’ll graciously forgive you.”
You watched as his character ran back to yours and dropped the flower on the ground. As you moved it into your offhand, you crouched and stared into George’s goggles.
When he kneeled down along with you, it took a mere five seconds before you both burst out laughing.
Though your stream did not go originally as planned, George ruining your stream was a fond memory you both would never forget.

SWTOR: Galactic Seasons Help 2.0
We are now into our second week with the new SWTOR Galactic Seasons program. I think others have voiced the same concerns I have about Galactic Seasons. If you are a solo player - or even a group player who prefers to be with friends or guildmates - the objectives may not be to your liking. They are very clearly trying to push specific play styles which are not to everyone's taste, specifically PvP and GSF matches. Moreover they seem to specifically be pushing players to group with strangers. For example, veteran flashpoints show up as a weekly objective - but they don't count unless you use group finder.
The GS system seems to be bugged to holy hell - if you check the Bug Reports forum on the SWTOR official site, you will see numerous reports of activities not counting toward the priority objectives (PO), POs with confusing/conflicting names, and other issues. SWTOR had a maintenance patch scheduled for May 6 that was to correct some of these bugs, but as of May 7 it has been delayed.
Having said that, let's be honest. A lot of us want some of the goodies offered, like the stronghold and companions we may have missed out on. With that in mind, here's my newest list of suggestions that may help.
1. You do not appear to need to complete the entire objective on one character. This is exactly how Conquest works - your kill count is shared across your legacy. For example, I needed to kill 75 specific NPCs on Balmorra. Project Hexapod has 33 (yes, I counted LOL). So I sent three characters through that heroic to get to 75. The Black Hole required six completed missions. I did the three instanced ones on a character, then did three more on another toon.
2. Consider the instanced areas. There are numerous instanced heroics and repeatable missions where you can work toward those kill mission and heroic counts without fighting with anyone else over mobs or getting in the way of anyone attempting to complete a story or planetary quest. There are also a few open world missions that, by nature of their mechanism (macrobinoculars), don't mess with anyone else. I've included an updated list under the cut. 3. The heroics bug. So there are a number of POs that require three heroics on a choice of three planets. In my experience, they only have counted if they have been completed on the first planet named. In other words, if the heroic PO is "do heroics on Belsavis, Hoth or Tatooine" like they are here, the ones from Belsavis will count, but the ones from the other two planets will not. I can't guarantee this will work for you too, but it's worth a try. It's worked for me with the "Belsavis/Hoth/Tatooine" and "Alderaan/Corellia/Balmorra" heroics.
Tumblr media
4. The path to tokens is slow going for Preferred and F2P. If there's something with the tokens you really want, consider subscribing for a month or two. I normally would not recommend this, but I'll be honest and say it's the route I'm taking too. 5. You get one re-roll daily on your daily POs. Use it wisely. I've been using it to roll away PVP and GSF and really trying to do anything solo that comes up. In my experience, re-rolling often just gives you another PVP or GSF PO - so don't waste a solo PO that has come up. 6. After a month, you reportedly will be able to use game credits to buy levels. I don't know what this credit sink will be. But if you have considered buying levels with cartel coins - you may wish to wait. You also may wish to consider what is less burdensome: doing POs you don't enjoy, or doing content you DO enjoy and saving credits to skip. List of instanced/non-competitive with other players missions and heroics under the cut, now updated to include Onderon.
Instanced missions:
Empire Black Hole: Glow; Hypermatter Directive
Dantooine: Beneath Suspicion
Onderon: Good Hunting (open world, but you carry the bait so there is no clickable and AFAIK nobody can steal the two NPCs you must defeat); Recording History (open world but you are scanning landmarks with binoculars so nobody can steal your objectives and there is no need to compete for them); Tamed; Proving your Worth (requires you to click a brazier outside the instanced area but the entire fight is instanced).
Ossus: Know Your Enemy (not instanced, but this involves scanning landmarks, so there is no competition for mobs or objectives)
Republic Black Hole: Eyes and Ears
Dantooine: Pirates. Again; An Enemy Among Friends
Onderon: Proving your Worth (requires you to click a brazier outside the instanced area but the entire fight is instanced) ; Tamed; Cleaning Up the Streets Ossus: Remembering the Past (not instanced, but this involves scanning landmarks, so there is no competition for mobs or objectives)
Section X: Priority Containment
BOTH FACTIONS
CZ-198: Anti-Toxin Acquisition/Anti-Toxin Recovery
Oricon: Hand that Sees/Eye of Terror
Rishi: She Who Devours; A Crew of Your Own (literally all you have to do for this is speak to Harlow Ricks twice). NB: there are some reports on the Bug Reports forum that this mission is not counting for certain characters.
Mek-Sha: We're Wanted Men
Dantooine's heroics are instanced, but are considered extremely hard for solo players to complete.
Instanced, AND lots and lots of mobs:
EMPIRE:
Heroics:
Balmorra: Project Hexapod (HAS COLLICOIDS for that 'kill bugs' objective); Resistance Sympathizers; Settling Debts (careful - don't pull more than one mob at once in here). Thank you @tishinada for the heads up on the additional Balmorra heroics!)
Belsavis: Old Enemies (careful; the mobs in here hit hard)
Corellia: Prison Busting; Wookiee Revolt
Hoth: Static; A Traitor’s Punishment
Korriban: Armed and Dangerous
Nar Shaddaa: Botched Interrogation; Terminal Injuries; Recruitment
Tatooine: Blood and Sand
Taris: Last of the Tarisian Pirates
Voss: First Commando’s Call
REPUBLIC:
Heroics:
Corellia: Under New Management (the end requires you to click an objective outside the instance but there seemed to be multiple objectives, and the mobs and 99% of the heroic are all instanced)
Coruscant: Enemies of the Republic (they’ve recently added 10+ new NPCs to this, too) ; Trouble In Deed
Nar Shaddaa: Breaking Down Shadow Town ; Lab Animals; The Morgukai (careful - all the mobs in here are golds and silvers hanging out in pairs or trios, with a couple of champions thrown in.); Shadow Extraction
Taris: Rakghoul Release; Total Elimination
Tatooine: Reap the Wind
Voss: Trial of the First (exact same thing as the Imperial mission)

Strike! AU magic
Strike! has a very unique class system in that a class defines only what overall mechanics you can use and actively encourages a total reskin or refluff if you want - on the one hand, it's easy to make a concept work, on the other you gotta start with a concept rather than start with your class (I'll just play a cleric since we need a healer) and then letting your concept grow over time.
Still, that flexibility appeals to me. One of the classes, shapechanger, is generally intended to be a druid-like wild shape class; but one of the suggested reskins is for a Metroid-like suit of powered armour that has different offensive modes or functions you can activate. Necromancer works fine as an actual necromancer, but I quickly saw it could be used to play a Diplomacy-based negotiator character that (after an enemy is roughed up a bit) convinces them to fight on your side.
So because I'm sick and bored, I wanted to do an experiment: Take five character concepts, identify the role and class they would be normally.
Then keep the role the same, randomly roll for class, and see how that changes/would fit the concept.
Using my own characters from LARPS or MMO roleplaying, with the caveat that I can only use one Valentein because otherwise they'd all be similar concepts.
Strike! has five roles: Leader (healer/buffer), Defender (tank), Striker (focused damage-dealer), Controller (debuffer), Blaster (area damage-dealer) and eleven classes: Necromancer (uses defeated enemies as a resource), archer (ranged attacker), martial artist (stance fighter), warlord (party support), magician (ranged fighter with vancian spell slots), bombardier (area attacker), shapechanger (can change into a different form once per encounter, so different type of stance fighter), summoner (summons static zone or power effects), buddies (pet class), rogue (class powers focus entirely on mobility rather than attacks.)
- Leader (Epoch) - - Valentein Prince, Scholar of the Arcane, Archmage, Lord-Accountant of the Carreg Wynn Cavaliers, Commander of the Carreg Wynn Guard, Zell of the No'Jiyuu Pryde, Scion of Familia Flaccara, Apprentice to the Goddess Malabascamabara, Slayer of Cascadian, and Prime of Carreg Wynn -
Epoch Valentein, because I really want him to be, would be a Necromancer Leader. Despite being a priest of a nominally undead-banning religion (a mite bit heretical) his skill with Essence and Void-aligned magic grants him the ability to animate and revive dead and dying bodies - serving to both subvert enemies and heal allies.
Roll the dice and... Buddies, essentially a pet class but can work as two characters fighting as a duo. Ok.
- Buddies Leader - - Prime Valentein Amaris and Talon Knight Leona Rey -
A personal bodyguard, Leona is armed and armoured. The Leader-powered healing magic originates from Valentein, but Leona has a majority of offensive and defensive manoeuvres.
Leona is healthier and sturdier than Valen is, so taking the Super-Buddy feature represents that. Leona has some typical tanky passives - Brave to intercept hits, Tough to be armoured - and some weapon-related Actives - Focused to mark, Pushy to knock away. They work as a team to support their allies.
- Defender (Secrets of Magic) - - Łukasz Żelazowski, Lendzianie Knight -
Łukasz would be a Martial Artist Defender, the mechanical 'stances' of the class being represented by different weapons and equipment he carries with him. At his core, he is a nonmagic character who is super tough and tanky.
Roll the dice and... Martial Artist. And... Martial Artist. AND... Martial Artist.
One more time... finally, Magician. Wow.
Magicians are inherently ranged fighters who can pick several of many spell options, made for people who like the utility of D&D wizards - not really fitting with a nonmagical fighter. Łukasz does also have some connections with death magic, since I was considering making him a necro-knight, but that never actually took shape. However, looking at the Blood Magic class feature - spending some of his own inner essence to generate otherworldly abilities - and the fact that there are defensive and melee-ranged spell effects in the Magician's kit we can assemble him into some kinda Witcher.
- Magician Defender - - Łukasz the Returned, Demon Hunter -
Dying an honourable death and glimpsing the dark powers that wait to swallow souls, Łukasz willingly allowed himself to be resurrected by a draconic sorceress in order to defend his world.
Magician Features: Ranged Basic becomes range 10 - Łukasz can slash a sword wind to hit at a distance.
Blood Adept: Łukasz can put more of his life essence into his attacks to increase their potency. Only once his blood has been spilled can he access higher-level supernatural effects - probably something a restricting or making vulnerable nature. Eventually he gains a Blood Curse - when he is Taken Out, he can spend his life energy on a major spell effect - used to make normally invincible demons vincible.
- Striker (Elegy) - - Crow, Wilder Survivor -
Crow was the dumbass last survivor of a dumbass Wilder forest clan that wandered over to Bartertown because his dumbass family was dead. He had shit luck with firearms, his 'old trusty' revolver jamming every time he fired it, so he relies mostly on a machete and getting the hell away from trouble to not die. He can swing a good hit when he lands, so overall he sounds like a Rogue Striker - prioritizing mobility and evasiveness to fancy attacks.
Roll the dice... Archer.
Crow's original concept was supposed to be more of a highwayman until I decided not to actively seek PvP and could not get a working dart gun for the life of me. So, let's hew close to that concept...
- Archer Striker - - Crow, Wretch Highwayman -
Leaning into 'soft control', Crow picks up Sentinel and a well-cared for revolver to take down those that get too close to him, or something he cares about. Focusing on opportune strikes he delivers the damage at range to multiple targets. Taking a trophy from every victim, he wears mostly black leather.
- Controller (Ultima Online) - - Dark Lord Ultimus, Vampire Mage -
Well, since I was 13, he'd probably also be a Necromancer but his original build in UO hewed closer to a Summoner Controller. Using mage abilities to summon elemental creatures to ensnare, bamboozle, and confound his targets. Also he's half-drow for maximum emo. Atlantic-shard UO Roleplay was... a lot.
Roll the dice... Shapechanger. Hm.
Well, he's already undead and half-drow. There's something there, right?
- Shapechanger Controller - - Tathkah Eilsett, Death-Cursed Shade -
Ultimus fluctuated through several concepts in my turbulent youth. One that stuck with me was his 'Shade' that came up when he was hiding his identity for some reason - emotionless and quiet, with more direct shadow powers in place of his elemental magic.
With this concept, he can manifest traits of different undead as his form power: Wraith (Hawk), Mummy (Viper), Shade (Kraken).
Manifesting the Wraith form lets him fly with moderate insubstantiability (no major changes needed to the flight power, since it already makes you untargetable).
The Mummy form lets him spread a curse that eats away at a foe's life-force.
Shade (for lack of a better idea) lets him grab multiple targets with shadowy tendrils, siphoning away their life-force.
- Blaster (Guild Wars) - - Warmaster Victor, Ascalonian Elementalist -
Cheating a bit, since this character was technically a Valentein but that really only stuck because I didn't want to remake the character with a new name. One of the names I was considering with Victor, so here we are. Elementalists in Guild Wars (1) are area-damage magical casters; Bombardier has mechanics that are best used by a non-magical concept, so he'd be a Magician Blaster. Hailing from the farms in Ashford, he joined the army as a battlemage.
Rolling the dice gives us... Rogue.
- Rogue Blaster - - Lightbringer Victor, Order of Whispers Elementalist -
The Order of Whispers, in opposition to the Ascalonian Army, teaches ways to move about in secret and to fight Torment Demons. Victor applies his elemental knowledge to move about in gusts of wind, travel on streams of water, shaped earth, or jets of fire. He uses his wide-ranging magic to affect groups of foes with status effects - blinding lightning, poisoned water, burning fire, and ankle-breaking stone.
So for some like Łukasz, the class affected the concept more than others - Crow just fought in a different way, whereas Łukasz changed specialties entirely from a fighter to a mage-knight. Something like this might be interesting to do as an in-game adventure. A divine curse or magical effect might have rewritten the party's history or changed their cutie marks around, resulting in a changed moveset for a spell until the bad guy is defeated. I dunno!

I switched to demon hunter when BfA came out because my guild needed to bring the 5% magic damage debuff and I was struggling to find a class/spec I actually enjoyed playing after they removed ranged survival and didn’t give any sort of second-best substitute.  It’s now been sixteen months and I’m beginning to get incredibly frustrated with my DH—I like her as an alt, but I feel incredibly constrained by her aesthetically because the pool of warglaive or warglaive-like appearances is so tiny (and isn’t likely to grow very much any time soon).  It’s dumb that that’s the kind of thing that can tilt me as hard as it’s been tilting me, but I’ve basically exhausted the appearance pool at this point.
Anyway I told my raid leader that I’d give him a concrete decision on what I was doing for 8.3 by the end of the year, which means I have to figure out what, if anything, I’m going to main switch to.  The big problem is that getting raid-ready at this point takes significantly more time and effort than it ought to at this point in the expansion, because there are no catch-up mechanics for the 8.2 Azerite Essences, and 8.3 isn’t actually going to help with that as far as I can tell (it’s lowering the rep requirement for two of the essences, but isn’t lowering the time or specialized currency requirements for most of the others).  Artifact knowledge helps with unlocking the slots and the 3% stamina bonuses and that’s in a good position, but unfortunately that means nothing when you’ve got nothing to put into those slots in the first place.
So I need to go through and figure out what I’m doing, and since I’m going in circles in my head about it I figured I ought to actually go long form on this MFer.  This is... going to be long, probably.  I don’t know if it’ll even help.  Let’s find out, I guess.
Shaman (elemental focus): + Hybrid (melee, ranged, healer) + One-spec hybrid (no expectation of having to know, gear up, and play both DPS specs the way a mage would) + Mentioned specifically as a thing we could use (ele) + Decent transmog pool (+KT heritage if race changed) - Still has a lot of baggage from when she was my main TBC-MoP - Resto not a fun or intuitive offspec - Condensed Life Force and Blood of the Enemy essentially required (multi-week raid + battlegrounds PvP) for ele - Turret caster (not my preferred playstyle)
Druid (all four specs viable to varying degrees): + Hybrid (melee, ranged, tank, healer) + Best possible offspecs (resto druid has a long history of being good to me in 5-man content, guardian makes sense and meshes well) + Long history and great library of fantastic transmog options with matchable weapons (both 1h and 2h) + Could also be a KT if I really wanted to give up shadowmeld (which is a v tall ask, but y’know) + Currently actually has my name on Skywall (no more having to stop and think before calling something out bc my character name isn’t the name I go by nonsense) - Balance is incredibly unintuitive to play and makes me feel real dumb real fast - Feral is also really not super great (and is melee, and severely limits mog options due to the way the legion artifact cat skins works) - We already have four in raid (one feral, two balance, one resto); would be very obvious very quickly that I’m the weakest link + Vision of Perfection isn’t as good as CLF for balance but only just barely and would at least be an acceptable stopgap while the incredibly long CLF acquisition period happened
Warlock: - Pure DPS (queues and group finder for catch-up, leveling, or maintenance going to be long with no option to play something less fun for less time investment) + Survivable in solo content (ty voidwalker) + Versatile(ish) playstyle with three specs to choose from - ... but that sort of implies that you have to know and play at least 2/3 (if not all 3) - Affliction is the ultimate multi-dot tracking spec and I’ve never found a good way to do that for me + Affliction is as mobile as casters get these days (and as close as you can get to ranged survival in the current game, fuck you blizzard) +/- Unexciting transmog options (but at least since I’ve never mained a clothie it’s all essentially new; on the flip side it also means I don’t own a lot of it already so I’d have to go out farming) - Wands are still A Thing™ - Destruction and Demonology are turret casters - CLF and Blood of the Enemy both incredibly strong (VoP is almost equal to CLF for destro)
Rogue: - Pure DPS - Not solo survivable at low gear levels (never played at high gear levels to know if that changes significantly) - Poisons (only a problem for assassination right now but they’re coming back in shadowlands bc blizzard is stupid so (: love that) - Transmog options limited by weapon type for 2/3 specs - Melee - Honestly why am I even putting them on the list I like Sylenna but I hate everything rogues stand for and would never want to main one lmao
Demon Hunter (havoc focus): + Hybrid (melee/tank) - Melee
Tumblr media
- Incredibly limited transmog options (exclusively due to personal brain stuff since they can actually use swords and axes and fist weapons, I just don’t want to.  Also because some of the DH looks look real bad with the dark skin tone my DH uses and I refuse to spend 300g to whitewash her) - RC Loot Council still thinks they can use daggers and it hurts my soul every time - New weapon mog requires multiple bonus rolls over several weeks due to literally nobody else in the raid being eligible for the drops (and praying that extensions don’t happen or you’ll get fucked like in Dazar’alor) + Vengeance is pretty okay in casual dungeon environments (even if it never feels like I have a button to press for emergencies) + Essences are not an issue (b/c she’s already put the time in)
Mage: - Pure DPS - Incredibly not-survivable in solo content at low item levels.  I have never once felt safe in open world content on my mages once they hit max level. - Sharing a class with Cider strikes me as incredibly dangerous to my sanity (since he’s so tryhard about his damage) +/- Unexciting transmog options + I do have the mage MoP CM armor tho! - Wands + Best class mount by leaps and bounds + Ranged + Fire/Frost at least have some mobility options + Being in control of AI and hero so we don’t have to call for them fifty times a pull sounds real nice (except when I want to be the one not paying attention)
Priest (shadow focus): + Hybrid (ranged/healer/healer) + Disc is the only non-druid healing spec I feel at least slightly comfortable in in casual dungeons (though not anything actually challenging) - Shadow is a multidot spec and multitarget multidot is hard to keep track of - Also we have two already (including the guild leader) +/- Unexciting transmog options (exacerbated by shadowform) - Wands + Ranged
Death Knight: + Hybrid (melee/melee/tank) - Melee +/- Unexciting transmog options + Blood doesn’t seem bad as far as tanking specs go - I haven’t touched Unholy since Wrath and supposedly its top dog atm - Let’s just skip over DK for now, honestly—it doesn’t bring anything to the Xella Table that warrior doesn’t also do (except blood > prot)
Warrior: + Hybrid (melee/melee/tank) + Brings a semi-unique buff (Battle Shout for when Irken isn’t around) - Melee +/- Unexciting transmog options + Capable of stealing almost everyone else’s weapon mog, tho—v exciting! - Naha will probably crack jokes about how bad a tank I am and/or how bad my DPS is if I main a warrior again, and regardless of whether it was true or is true, it will quietly tilt me off the face of the planet. - Would need a facelift; current look works fine for an alt but isn’t versatile enough for a main (would also benefit from a name change at the same time, honestly)
Hunter: - Pure DPS + Incredibly survivable in solo content at low item levels - Only has two specs (fuck you blizzard) + Great mog options, both for default look and enough variants to keep me satisfied + Also has quiver options in at least one spec - Not as mobile as it should be + Still more mobile than pretty much any other ranged + Sporey + Ranged + BOWS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- (: - I’d probably tilt myself off the face of the planet within six months anyway, just bc I’d be constantly reminded that ranged survival doesn’t exist anymore which is why I’m playing the inferior spec(s). - Honestly I keep coming up with excuses not to go back to the hunter but I really don’t think it’d be good for me - But I really want to play her or my druid hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh
Paladin: + Hybrid (melee/tank/healer) + Good offspec (protadin used to be better but is still entertaining, holy is a mystery tho) - Melee + We don’t have one + Utility (blessings and whatnot) - Unintuitive “rotation” - Very expensive to main (don’t have a paladin on Skywall, only 120 paladin at all atm is Horde)
Monk: + Hybrid (melee/tank/healer) - Offspecs are both dodgy (ha, brewmaster pun) - Melee - WW isn’t especially fun to play +/- Brings a unique (de)buff, but we already have two monks in our roster so it’s less an issue of never sitting/never getting to sit than the DH is. - Very expensive to main (the other class I don’t have on Skywall atm)

Long description, tl;dr features list below:
Since 2010, the Summa Crossroads Minecraft server has been built on one great idea - that what we build should be fun and exciting. We've gone through multiple maps, updates, and plugin sets, always trying to find that delicate balance of fun, challenge, and drive. We've been around since alpha, and we've learned a lot. This server has been a lot of things for a lot of people, but it's always been a good time.
Today, we feature a vast 16,000 by 16,000 map sprawling from edge to edge with beautiful custom biomes. It's hand-painted and lovingly crafted - every inch is designed to bring the sense of adventure and vast scale that you may recall from your first days of Minecraft. Some residents have built towns and gathered the resources to construct their own waypoints, which you can unlock the ability to fast-travel to by venturing there yourself. Much of the landscape is yet unexplored, and each week new adventures are introduced.
For those who enjoy a good challenge, the overworld is bustling with deep caves, and the monsters that come out at night will be no allies. PvP arenas let you challenge your friends and humiliate your foes - paying you out for putting up a good fight. The Underdome and Woodland arenas let you demonstrate your gladiatorial might against wave after wave of things that go bump in the night, with spoils to those who entertain. Vast parkour challenges, one of which has only been completed by two players in the history of the server, will spare you no mercy. Unrelenting instanced temples will push you to your limits, giving you fame and fortune if you show the world that you are a true hero. Accumulate enough might and you can unlock ancient secrets, letting you use magic spells to control the world around you.
We think it's important to foster a strong community, and our player ranks are thus tied to activity on the server. As you continue to build your legend and establish your presence, you will earn your way to glory and prestige.
Often times it's the little things that make the biggest difference, and we have a plethora of precisely tuned pieces that keep the cogs turning. Little tweaks to the basics of Minecraft and bigger underlying systems designed to reward you for playing the game your way. We want players to have fun and enjoy themselves in a world that feels ready for conquest and adventure.
We're a mature survival server, which means we won't teleport you across the world - you've got to make the trek yourself. You might die, but you'll get right back up again and keep fighting. That's what the game is all about, after all! There are plenty of resources and friends to help you out on your adventures, but only you can keep yourself alive.
Some recent highlights:

idiot (endearing) chapter 2
grudges
Tumblr media
“Dude! C’mon! You might as well, right?”
“Ew! Absolutely fucking not ! I hate that guy.”
“ Pffft , listen to yourself. You don't really believe that, do you?”
Dream stood his ground, trying to defend himself against an equally headstrong Sapnap eager to convince him to add George to the Dream SMP.
“Well, 6 years ago, I very kindly asked him to help me code something and the asshole blanked me! What else am I supposed to do but hate him?”
“If you hated him so much you wouldn’t have remembered when you met him so easily.”
The quick rebuttal halted Dream in his tracks, no smart response coming to mind quick enough to win the argument. He sighed deeply, shoulders slumping back into his squeaky chair, the confidence from his voice faltering as he admitted his loss; “He’s my arch nemesis, Sapnap. I know p-” The other boy quickly used Dream’s phrase against him; “Oh come on now. Dream. There’s way worse people you could have as your nemesis than fucking George .”
Dream knew his friend was right, it’s just George. George who let younger Dream down when he got an exciting idea for a Minecraft plug-in. George who he later shared a title with on a different server. George who knew exactly what to say to rile him up during PvP games. George who he’d been subscribed to from the moment he started creating content encouraged by Badboyhalo. George with the gentle chuckle but loud laugh. George who always tilted and tipped his head at just the right angle each time. Dream caught his wild wandering thoughts; he shook his head and furrowed his brows, rapidly blinking as if to wipe the daydream from his vision. Sapnap sat idly by in the now-silent voice call, only the light tapping of his keyboard and mouse faintly feeding through the line.
“I just texted Bad. Let’s do a manhunt video soon. We can invite George.” the typing came to an abrupt stop as he spoke up. Dream could feel his throat closing up at the idea of having George enter his world just like that, despite having rejected it all those years ago.
Dream was about to give in, but quickly remembered all the times George embarrassed him in random calls and stupid witty tweets. “What?! No, dude, what the fuck! Fuck off and create your own server if you want him to play with him so bad.” He crossed his arms and held a pout on his face thinking he’d finally gotten through to his friend. But alas, Sapnap was still Sapnap after all; “Oh Dream! I want to play with George? Oof I’d hope he takes me to dinner first! Who do you think I am?” Steam could almost blow the headphones off his head with how bothered Dream had gotten by Sapnap’s mocking, and he decided to end the call right then and there. His chair squeaked again when he leaned his weight on its back, his head tossing back against the headrest, it only supporting its lower half due to his height. The hand he brought up to his jaw felt clammy at the thought of including George in something so special to him, and as he rubbed the scruff of slight stubble climbing up his cheek, he squeezed his eyes shut. Dream knew how much the fans wanted this, and knew how profitable it would be for him, but he didn’t think he could set his values aside just for some cash grab. Having to do business with his enemy was not worth ruining the community he’d built. Business; that’s all he saw interacting with George as.
The irritated man stood up, his figure remaining slumped as his thoughts went at a mile a minute. Making his way from his room to his living room, he weighed the advantages and disadvantages. Dream had no clue what to do about this seemingly outlandish proposal Sapnap made him. He knew deep down that if he really hated George, he wouldn’t be mulling over his decision -- it would be an immediate no -- but he shoved that common sense deep into a locked drawer in his mind. In fact, he did everything in his power not to let another thought enter, rather entertaining it to the point where his brain was so loud nothing could break the soundbarrier. A random tv show played on his wide television, the Alexa in his kitchen was playing one of Sapnap’s intense Spotify playlists at a high enough volume it could be heard throughout the entire not-so-small house, all the while watching TikToks on his phone with his long limbs splayed across his cloudy cream couch. The walls of both his brain and house were buzzing with overstimulation, but in just the right way as not to overwhelm him. Dream felt at peace with how busy his surroundings felt; closing his eyes trying to find focus as if playing a game with his own head. He managed to recognise the actor’s voice on his tv, registering him accompanied with a vague face of a Michael Cera type. Next, he noticed the music playing was a Jack Harlow song and he hummed its rhythm. Lastly, he tried tuning into the TikTok video that had been left repeating on the phone layed on his chest. He recognised a high pitched laugh following his own voice, and then the one voice that always managed to ignite a spark in the bottom of his stomach. George.
“I think George can probably clear me.” he heard himself say upon the tenth replay of the clip.
“No.” George replied smuggly, a smirk evident in his tone of voice.
Dream remembered the exact moment of the TikTok he couldn’t seem to want to pause. It was a recent Among Us game he’d been playing, and of course, George was there. Dream wouldn’t dare admit it to anyone, but he had had George’s stream open on another monitor, watching each of his expressions and movements as he played. George had forgotten to connect his microphone, so Dream simply texted him a reminder to turn it on. He was proud of the upper-hand streamhopping had been giving him, and he couldn’t deny that George is the only person to whom he did this. As much power as it gave him knowing whether or not the other boy was impostor or crewmate, he knew that wasn’t the only reason he did this. He did it so he could let his eyes linger on how George’s face focused and tensed as he played, and the raised eyebrows he shot his chat through his webcam after he’d lied about not venting. Dream felt the busy sounds fade the more he remembered how George’s pupils dilated ever so slightly each time one of them took a jab to the other, the exact thing happening in the TikTok. George’s one word reply hit Dream right between his ribcage, evoking anger and frustration at his inability to take anything seriously. Dream hated how George could make him break focus during tactical games like Among Us, especially since his attention would always end up wandering to the screen on his left, studying how George smiled and licked his lips every time Dream stumbled. God, how he hated him.
-----
“No. He’s a fucking prick.”
“It’s so much fun though! We can finally do George lore!”
George let his head lop to the side as he rolled his eyes so far back it hurt his head.
“C’mon, Georgie! For me? For me, please, for me, Gogy! Pleeeeease.” Quackity had his shoulders hunched up and his fingers tapping together in front of his face as he begged George to join him on the Dream SMP in a high pitched voice.
“You’re so annoying. I can’t believe that idiot let you onto the server at all.” George retaliates. Ignoring him, Quackity paused his relentless pleas to check his Twitch chat, him having been doing a chill stream with George as an unexpected guest. “Look, look! Chat wants it! You can’t let all of them down like that, can you now George?” He laughed menacingly as George threw his hands in the air and widened his eyes. “You can’t guilt me like that, Quackity! Besides, isn’t it-” he stopped himself mid-sentence to make a fake-gagging sound into his microphone, Quackity giggling as he did so, “ Dream who has to personally invite me?” The other boy’s laugh built into a cackle before calming down the bit he was doing with George.
As he continued talking about something George wasn’t paying much mind to, the brit let his mind wander. Would it be that bad for him to join this stupid server? Most of his friends are on it. The only reason he isn’t is his known hatred for its owner, and why would that suddenly stop now? It wouldn’t be caused by Dream’s superiority complex when he learnt how to code after George ignored his request for help on a plug-in. Or how he somehow stayed friends with everyone George was also friends with. The way Dream’s full chuckle always flooded through his ears so softly before spreading down his throat into the centre of his chest after succeeding in making George stumble over an insult definitely wouldn’t. Neither would the dropping octaves in his voice when he hits particular curses in George’s direction.
“WAKE UP, ASSHOLE!”
Quackity’s crackling scream broke George’s trance, not realising he’d closed his eyes trying to imagine what the person he hated most looked like (a common occurrence). He threw the headphones of his head in fright of the sudden deafening noise. Not lingering on George’s accidental daydreaming, they swiftly moved on to doing fun quizzes together online. They started off harmless; ‘What The Office character are you?’ and ‘What superhero are you most like?’ Until Bad, who at this point had entered their call to join the fun, sent him a different one to try out with him and George. “Oooh Bad! Bad! Really? With the special guest we’ve got today?” George’s brows pointed down in confusion.
“Which Dream SMP member would be your soulmate?” Quackity dictated the quiz’s name and cackled so loud he started wheezing. His face instantly dropped and his left hand quickly fell from his hair to his mouse as George prepared to leave the call. Hovering over the disconnect button, he weighed out his options; he could just leave and avoid the potential cringey content that would haunt him forever… or he could play into it and pander so he had something to bully Dream about. If he really didn't want to see how this dumb game ended, George would have left Quackity and Bad standing alone a few minutes prior. But, feeling daring, he took his chances.
“Fine,” he sighed heavily into the mic, “but if I get Dream we’re gonna have some problems.”

Bleeding Edge Review — One Little Victory (Xbox One/PC)
March 27, 2020 11:30 AM EST
A certain degree of imagination.
Team-based battle arena games are a dime a dozen nowadays. From League of Legends to Overwatch, many of the recent games that fall in that genre seem derivative, hardly deviating from the tried-and-true formulas of the past. However, there are new releases, like Ninja Theory’s Bleeding Edge, that essentially is a melting pot of those popular titles while still doing something unique and maintaining a quality experience.
Like many team-based battle arena games, Bleeding Edge pins two teams of four against each other in a competitive, objective-based match. Whether you win or lose, you’ll earn experience attached to both your profile and the characters you use. You’ll also earn currency to unlock rewards including mods, skins, boards (the game’s mounts), and emotes.
youtube
Where it Bleeding Edge begins to deviate from the norm is in its gameplay. It is essentially an amalgamation of Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, World of Warcraft‘s PvP arenas, and a simple hack and slash game. Yes, that is a long-winded comparison (and one that almost consists of all Blizzard games), but it captures elements of each culminating in a rather unique take on the genre.
There are two match types: Objective Control and Power Collection. Objective Control is similar to other Control or Capture the Flag modes where you have to capture and hold three points. However, the points that are active will cycle throughout the match.
The cycling points help keep the action moving throughout the map rather than having one team dominate one point for the duration of the match. It also gives the losing team a chance to come back. Essentially, the map resets, which means it gives each team an opportunity to gather themselves and set up for the next team fight.
Power Collection has two phases. The first comes when power cells are spawned around the map. After all of the power cells have been collected, a delivery phase begins where one or two points on the map become active for you to use to deliver your power cells. This takes a few moments and can be interrupted by enemy players.
The Power Collection mode also cycles its points, again, promoting more movement throughout the match rather than staying at any of the three points. The collection phase doubly promotes this as the spawn points for power cells are different in each phase. These power cells can be stolen if you kill an opposing player that collected some during the collection phase, which urges the losing team to engage in combat.
“Both modes are fun, especially if you have a team that works well together.”
Both modes are fun, especially if you have a team that works well together. The familiarity of the Objective Control mode made it easy to adapt to the game’s hack and slash inspired mechanics while still presenting a fun take on a traditional mode. Power Collection I found a bit tedious, but fun nonetheless. The act of collecting and delivering just takes a bit away from the actual combat portions. However, it does add more stakes, making each team fight feel meaningful.
The five maps are all designed well, albeit, some are definitely stronger than others. Most notably, Skygarden. This map is far and away the one I had the most fun with. On the surface, it’s pretty standard. There are three points, with one at the center and the other two at each end of the map. However, each point has a switch that activates a circular AOE that burns anyone within it. Again, this gives the losing team a chance to take the point for themselves.
The weakest of the maps is the Aqueducts. Again, for the most part, the map has a traditional layout. However, the A and C points continuously circle around the arena. With the game’s focus on keeping the action moving throughout the map, I understand why this map exists. But unlike the other four maps, it’s more aggravating than anything. Especially when you’re trying to deliver some power cells, and you come across an electrical fence that one-shots you.
“…Bleeding Edge brings hack and slash mechanics to the battle arena genre, and does so successfully.”
One main issue I have always had with any team-based battle arena game is camping or pushing the action to specific points that rewards staying put. There are some games that do it well; I know I’ve mentioned Overwatch a lot, but I think it is indicative of this. But mostly, any game that rewards a team for cheesing or camping is just bad design. I think it is really smart of Ninja Theory to design Bleeding Edge to always keep the action moving. The maps and mode design are really great, even if there are few options to choose from.
As mentioned, Bleeding Edge brings hack and slash mechanics to the battle arena genre, and does so successfully. Currently, there are 11 characters, all of which feel unique within their given roles.
There are three roles: DPS, Support, and Tank. Bleeding Edge recommends there be two DPS, one support, and one tank per team; however, you are freely able to choose whatever character you want. So, if you wanted a team composition of four DPS, you could, but unless the opposing team is a bunch of numbskulls, it is not the best strategy.
With how many battle arena games have introduced systems to standardize team comps, it is nice to see a game let people freely choose what they want, for better and for worse. While the four DPS comp wasn’t great, I’ve found success in having two tanks and two healers, and other odd comps that were against the game’s recommendation but still worked well.
There is a variety of characters to choose from in Bleeding Edge, each with their own unique style. Each character also has a set of basic abilities, specials, and supers (you choose one at the beginning of a match) to use.
The pool of DPS characters is the largest of the bunch, with five options both of the melee and ranged variety. However, I think the ranged options just stink. Especially Gizmo, who is armed to the teeth with giant guns, turrets, and even a mech (if you decide to choose that super). But even with all that ammunition, I felt the simplicity and close-ranged combat of a character like Daemon and Nidhoggr were both more effective and satisfying.
This notion is true of the ranged support characters as well. Two of the three supports use ranged attacks, and they just feel incredibly ineffective. In this case, it makes sense because they’re supposed to aid the team with healing or buffs. However, Kulev is a support that is more a hybrid that I found to be complete trash if he is your only support character on your team. Since he favors shielding allies or debuffing enemies, not much healing is going around. He does have a healing AOE, but it doesn’t feel like it does much by itself. That said, combined with Zero Cool or Miko’s heal, it has some use.
I only think this is a problem because the game recommends one support per team. If Kulev is you one support, not enough healing is going around and your team constantly dies. Of course, this could be a moot point if you have a god-tier Kulev player who just understands the character on your team. But this early into launch, players like this are few and far between.
The tank pool also only consists of three characters, all of which I think are fun to use and great for beginners. Since their survivability is high, it’s easy to just jump in with a tank and familiarize yourself with the basics of both match modes and the maps.
Each character can also equip three mods that buff certain abilities or stats. This can range from increasing the character’s base health to increasing the duration of an ability’s effect. While it may help a little, I never found them to be differentiating factors. Yes, I would favor some because they matched my playstyle, but it didn’t feel like it made a huge difference. This, in some ways, is a bummer, but having them make a difference may hinder it from ever becoming an actual competitive game.
While my qualms with Bleeding Edge‘s ranged characters may deter some, the eight melee characters are a blast to play as. With Ninja Theory as the developer, it makes sense that its melee hack and slash gameplay would be fun, simple, and intuitive. But the mix of the competitive battle arena genre and hack and slash gameplay is one I did not think could be done well. But if anyone was going to be able to, it would be the studio behind DmC: Devil May Cry, a game with brilliant hack and slash mechanics.
“Bleeding Edge puts quality over quantity.”
While I am pretty enthusiastic about Bleeding Edge, as it stands currently, there is certainly a lack of content there. Even compared to other launches of similar games, there really isn’t much to do. There really is only a quick play option, which randomly chooses a mode for you, a couple of quick tutorials, and a “Dojo” mode that lets you practice. That is it. There are also no filters or options when you join a match — you simply press “Fight” and start playing.
I can only assume more content will roll out for Bleeding Edge. As of now, the website does show the 12th character, but nothing more. While more maps would be great, simply adding more options when trying to find a match and a ranked mode would be great additions to add to the currently barren package.
Since this is an online-only game, it’s worth noting that I did have some lag issues throughout my experience. None of it made it unplayable, but it was definitely intrusive during team fights. Despite that, I was able to get into matches easily and quickly, which is nice, especially since there really is only one choice for getting into a match.
Bleeding Edge puts quality over quantity. The people at Ninja Theory have brought their expertise in the hack and slash genre and have translated it into a competitive experience that is both satisfying and distinct. But the lack of content and the boring ranged characters hinders it from really standing out amongst the overcrowded genre. Maybe in a few months, it will feel feature complete. But for now, Bleeding Edge will only have you strapped to your couch for a few hours before you decide to try something else out.

The Weekender: Absolutely Everything Edition
The amount of stuff I’ve had to pack into today’s update pretty much sums up our week in general. Between Harry Potter, the exploding Auto Chess craze plus all of the usual suspects, we’ve been kept very busy. Doesn’t look like Niantic’s Pokémon GO successor is taking off quite as much as many thought it would – we’ve got one or two more articles in the pipeline, but I think I’ll take a step back and evaluate after that.
Auto Chess now… you guys really seem to be enjoying that, and I’m glad because it fits our sensibilities a bit better. Might be a bit slower to the punch than other websites but expect to see more coverage on that over the next week or two as well. I’ve also switched a bunch of the guys over to review-work for the short term, just to make sure we’re keeping on top of that.
Meanwhile, in the world of mobile gaming…
Out Now
Tharsis (iPad) – Full Review Coming Soon!
Clearly, the only thing that could make a game about managing a spaceship on its way to Mars even better is if everything was going wrong from the start and your job was actually just to make the most of an increasingly dire situation. Choice Provisions know this, and now you can know it as well with this space-themed turn-based strategy game.
Using board-game inspired dice-mechanics, you can only do what your dice-rolls allow you to achieve in any given turn. It’s going to be difficult and there will be losses, but as long as you can make it to the Red Planet, I’m sure all those sacrifices won’t have been in vain. And hey, there’s always cannibalism, right?
youtube
Void Tyrant (iOS Universal) – Full Review Coming Soon!
Oh look, another rogue-like deck-building game! To be fair, we’ve been waiting on this game since last year so it’s not like Armor Games are yet another mobile studio jumping on a popular trend. Unlike other recent releases in this niche, Void Tyrant bases its card mechanics on the principles of Blackjack and uses a ‘stick or twist’ system for its core gameplay.
This is a single-player experience with over 500 cards and three classes. You can play it completely free with ads, or, pay a single $5 IAP to unlock the ad-free version of the game.
youtube
Graveyard Keeper (iOS Universal & Android) – Full Review Coming Soon!
The only release this week of note on both platforms, Graveyard Keeper is a medieval management sim in a similar vein as Stardew Valley, except not really accurate at all and with a wonderfully macabre twist. You’re mainly running your own cemetery but can expand into other ventures as well and will probably need to find shortcuts in order to save money. I mean, those dead bodies aren’t being used anymore, right?
If you thought that Stardew Valley was a bit too serious and were up for something more bonkers/suited to your weirder tastes, this may be the alternative you never knew you needed. It also sports “proper” quests, crafting and a love story, so we’re told. Look out for our review either end of next week or start of the week after.
youtube
Also going to drop a quick note saying that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has now been rolled out to more territories since its debut last week. TouchArcade has a really comprehensive list of known countries, in case you need to look yours up.
News You Can Use
This might become a regular addition, it might not… there’s just a fair few ‘news-y’ thing I haven’t gotten around to looking at this week, and instead of letting them drift away into oblivion might as well summarise them her:
New Games of Thrones game Beyond the Wall
This actually sounds quite neat, in the same way Ubisoft’s Elite Squad announcement from E3 seemed to kind of be touching on the strategy/RPG mobile space (although I’m telling you, auto-battlers is the way to go). Beyond the Wall puts you in charge of the Night’s Watch, manning one of the castles along the wall. You need to recruit (read ‘collect’) characters and form a ‘squad’ that you use in PvE battles beyond the wall, or in an as-yet undefined PvP mode. Pocket Gamer has a full interview if you want to read more about it, although we suspect this will be free-to-play. Pre-registration is open now via the official website.
youtube
Meteorfall Sequel Krumit’s Tale
One of our favourite card/roguelike games Is getting a sequel! Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale will we imagine be more of the same gameplay we know and love, but with new dungeons and new settings. It’s coming to Steam early access first, so we don’t know what the timetable for a mobile release is.
youtube
Battle Chasers: Nightwar Pre Order
Looks like we’re getting another decent turn-based RPG soon as well. Battle Chasers: Nightwar may not have the most inspiring name, but it’s earned a decent reputation for itself on consoles. Now it’s coming to mobile as a premium offering. It’s available for pre-order now on iOS, and pre-registration on Google Play.
youtube
Updates
Titan Quest (iOS Universal & Android) (Review)
Action-RPG Titan Quest has received an update this week. Additional localisation has been rolled out for Japanese, Chinese, Korean and then Ukrainian and Czech. For iOS users, full screen support for iPhone X or similar is now a thing, and some bugs with iOS 12 and up have also been fixed.
Star Traders: Frontiers (iOS Universal & Android) (Review)
Star Traders' latest update hasn’t quite rolled out to both platforms yet, but it’s out on Android at least. As well as some additional AI updates to prepare it to use carriers, the team have also included some neat quality of life UI changes to help legal traders do their job more efficiently. There’s also some new outfits.
Auto Chess: Origin (iOS Universal & Android)
There’s been a big update rolled out to Auto Chess’ official mobile version. A new race called ‘God’ has been introduced, with two pieces – Mars and Zeus. There’s four new items and two new modes (at least one of which is only available Friday till Sunday). You can also create Custom Games which can help you train against bots (although there is a crash bug with that still). There’s also been a massive pass at optimising certain mechanics to make them less fiddly, especially around synergies and levelling up pieces.
There’s also been a minor update for Auto Chess’ chief rival, Dota Underlords which looks at bug fixing and the UI. Don’t forget to check out the tips guide we released at the start of the week!
Sales
And if the above wasn’t enough, there’s quite a few summers sales happening this week as well, especially in the world of board games. We’ll try and recap some of the more interesting ones:
The Holy Potatoes! games are currently enjoying a discount, so make sure you check them out if you haven’t already.
2K have discounted both XCOM: Enemy Within and Civilization Revolution 2 to $1.99 on both iOS and Android. Absolute steal!
Acram digital have discounted a bunch of their digital board games on iOS and Android, including the DLC!
Same is true for Asmodee Digital on iOS and Android. A great day if you’re a digital board gamer.
The latest Kingdom Rush game, Kingdom Rush: Vengeance is currently discounted, as are all of Ironhide’s past games on iOS and Android.
Handelabra have discounted their titles on iOS and Android, including One Deck Dungeon.
Stardew Valley is on sale for only the second time since its release, on iOS and Android.
Last but certainly not least, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is on sale for the first time since December.
Seen anything else you liked? Played any of the above/ Let us know in the comments.

The best free Steam games 2018
New Post has been published on https://www.articletec.com/the-best-free-steam-games-2018/
The best free Steam games 2018
Getting into the best PC games can be an extremely rewarding experience, but it can definitely get expensive. But, you don’t have to pay top dollar for a great gaming experience, which is why we gathered up the best free-to-play Steam games 2018 has to offer.
Over the last few years, the best free games have become infamous for shoving a ton of microtransactions in your face. But, don’t worry, you won’t have to sign your soul away in an agreement to spend money later on with these games. All the best free-to-play Steam games we picked here can be enjoyed for hours on end, all without spending a dime.
So, fire up your Steam account, boot up one of the best gaming PCs, put your wallet away (for now), and check out the best free-to-play Steam games of 2018.
1. Fractured Space
When it comes to MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arenas), not every game has to be a fantasy-based romp with daggers, spells and cutesy champions.
Take the science fiction ship battles of Fractured Space. Sure, it’s a MOBA-style 5v5 affair, but now you’re in control of a powerful frigate as your hurtle across the stars and attempt to destroy your opponent’s base before your own suffers the same fate.
Skewing the classic MOBA concept as a space-based naval affair gives the setup you know and love a much-needed breath of fresh air, while blowing away all the cobwebs. You can customize your ship and crew, as well as hotkeying weapons and abilities so you can combine the best ships for the task ahead.
It’s one of the most exciting MOBAs on PC, and it’s free to play on Steam.
Download here: Fractured Space
2. Gigantic
Much like Paladins, Gigantic offers a team-based shooter that’s part-Overwatch, part MOBA and part something brand new. Instead of having you defend a slow-moving carriage through a map (because that never gets old) or destroy an enemy base (in classic MOBA style), Gigantic tasks you with killing an enemy giant while attempting to protect your own. Sounds mad, right? It is, but a brilliant kind of mad all the same.
With an art style that mashes up Studio Ghibli flourishes and classic Disney cuteness, Gigantic’s 20-strong character roster offers enough skills, weapons and attributes to appease even the pickiest of players.
Each match is a 5v5 event, with players working together to power up their own Guardian (that’s your giant weapon/walking base) while risking it all to lay siege to the enemy. The roving nature of your Guardian makes every match an intense affair, and best of all, it’s 100% free on Steam.
Download here: Gigantic
3. Star Trek Online
MMOs and film licenses don’t often mix well – from The Matrix Online to Star Wars Galaxies, recognizable universes have rarely lasted in the realm of persistent online worlds. Except for the enduring Star Trek Online, that is. Retroactively made free-to-play following its launch back in 2010, STO gifts you with a crew and a Federation starship and sets you free to sail the stars in true Trekkie fashion.
There are microtransactions available should you want to speed up the levelling/resource gathering process, but STO is consistently generous with its free content, especially to new players looking to see their very own final frontier. It’s also set within ongoing Star Trek canon, taking place roughly three decades after the events of Star Trek Nemesis (you know, that terrible TNG film with Tom Hardy).
With an economy, ever-shifting alliances and a still impressively vast community, STO manages to bottle that magic that makes Star Trek so timeless.

4. Paladins: Champions of the Realm
Paladins launched just after a certain team-based shooter from Blizzard, and it’s hard not see the similarities. Still, that doesn’t mean Hi-Rez Studios’ free-to-play FPS isn’t worth your time – it just means you get play something that’s often just as fun and rewarding without forcing you to break the bank with a full-game price.
With a menagerie of characters to choose from (known as Champions), each match offers an objective-based experience that feels more like triple-A fare than other free-to-play shooters.
Paladins includes everything from Overwatch-style payload defence/offence to a Survival mode akin to the popular ‘battle royale’ sub-genre made popular by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. It offers a consistently enjoyable and rewarding place to spend your time, even if it’s a tad derivative.
It’s free to play on Steam, and there’s no need to sink any money into it as long as you’re willing to grind for the first few hours.
Download here: Paladins: Champions of the Realm
5. ArcheAge
MMOs set within the confines of a fantasy setting are hardly new – in fact, almost all of them fit that description to a tee – but very few of them manage to offer just as much diverse content as the Korean-made ArcheAge.
You can do all your usual MMO minutia – questing, gathering resources, looting new weapons and gear, and so on – but grind through its early levels and you’ll discover an online world full of surprises.
Want to conquer lands and lay claim to them? Check. Fancy building your very own castle? Double check. How about forming an alliance and besieging another for control of their land? Triple check. Oh, and how about a naval combat setting that practically adds an entire open-ocean to explore and plunder? All the checks. ArcheAge offers all this and more. Its naval combat mechanics are particularly impressive, enabling you to dispense maritime justice or hunt for loot as a virtual pirate.
Download here: ArcheAge
6. Warface: Blackout
Free-to-play shooters in their more traditional, deathmatch-esque form are often a hit and miss affair, but despite all those polished triple-A offerings from the likes of Activision and EA, Crytek Kiev has managed to put together a robust little FPS that can be just as exciting and enjoyable as many other entries in the bullet-ridden genre.
Warface: Blackout offers four classes to choose from, with weapons, gear, attachments and specific skills tied to each one. Having the right balance of classes in your squad adds a more Battlefield-style teamwork ethic, especially when engineers can repair armour and snipers can pull off game-changing one-shot kills.
After four years of rotation on the field, Warface has also honed its online economy, neatly offering you the ability to spend in-game currency on a rental system that lets you test out guns and gear before investing time and cash into your own version.

7. Art of War: Red Tides
Are you looking for a MOBA spin-off that’s light on the RTS elements but deep enough to keep you engaged through every match? Well, we’ve got just the free-to-play beauty for you. Art of War: Red Tides takes that classic MOBA structure – funnelling you down a channel with loads of units as you attempt to destroy a base at the other end – but strips out all the busywork in between. It might not appeal to the hardcore among us, but for those looking to replicate the relaxed involvement of a mobile title at your PC, this is right up your alley.
That’s not to say it’s a spectator title. You’ll still need to survey the battlefield and use your energy reserves to build units to counter those already on the field. There are a trio of modes available, but it’s in the 3v3 mode the setup works best, with matches often coming down to which team pulls off the best combo.
Download here: Art of War: Red Tides
8. Warframe
Okay, so the word ‘war’ features quite a lot in some of the best and most popular free-to-play titles, but that’s because few things are as fun to wage when you’re spending no money. Another such example is Warframe – an online melee brawler/shooter that’s evolved into one of the most enjoyable games on PC.
In the form of a sword-wielding space ninja (yes, it’s as cool as it sounds), the game feels like a cross between For Honor and Destiny 2, with modes offering PvE and PvP matches to keep you engaged. There’s even a story mode, and it’s actually pretty fun, if a little repetitive in places.
Developer Digital Extremes has also been incredibly faithful to its creation, rolling out regular updates and events that offer new upgrades and expansion on its burgeoning sci-fi lore. It may have floundered on consoles, but Warframe is very much alive on PC.
Download here: Warframe
9. Star Conflict
There’s been a resurgence for the sci-fi dogfighting subgenre in the last few years – thanks in part to the rise of VR – but there aren’t many titles that let you take to the stars and shoot space ships for nada. In fact, there’s just the one, and it’s one of the most enjoyable games we’ve played on this list.
The game is split into four main modes – PvP, Open Space, Sector Conquest and Missions – offering plenty of content for absolutely no pounds/euros/dollars. You can atomize other players in classic deathmatches, explore an impressively vast universe in Open Space, or head into co-op for a bit of PvE action in Missions. You can set up custom battles with friends if you’re in mood for a private dust up. Ship designs offer different attributes depending on your play style, and earning new ones can be pulled off without spending a penny if you’re willing to grind.
Download here: Star Conflict
10. Atlas Reactor
Part MOBA, part RTS, Atlas Reactor borrows those now ubiquitous decision queues and adds a neat twist: instead of each player acting out their turn one after the other, everyone gets to play at the same time. The result? A strategy game in actual real-time as players move units around the map, exchanging actions in a chaotic flurry. It can be a little more luck based than we would like (since you don’t know what you’re opponents are going to do next, it’s often guess work alone), but the pace soon hooks you in.
Decision, one of two main modes in the game, forces you to make these decisions in 20 seconds or under for each turn (making every match hella fun and hyper intense), while Resolution slows things down into four phases as you plan out your moves and set traps as you attempt to win each 4v4 showdown.

Islands are the best content system released in WoW in over a decade. It’s unfortunate that they’re terrible. If you’re thoroughly confused, welcome to the club - nearly everyone is. Let me explain why they are important. I will also speculate that Blizzard, institutionally at least, likely does not understand the full scope of what they’ve created. To review the basics - islands have been a sore spot since alpha due to their seemingly cacophonous theming and pacing. They’ve certainly been hated since launch due to their ‘lack of rewards’, prompting the devs to increase reward frequency at least twice publicly. Yet, the devs continue to act in an almost nonchalant way towards this particular piece of content that everyone else mostly hates with burning indifference. If you’re like me, you thought to yourself at some point “how could the devs be this disconnected?” every time they buff rewards from islands and it does nothing tangible to drop rates. You’ve done dozens of mythic islands, furiously rampaging around with specific 3-person comps to mow down creatures and mine Azerite in the most efficient way possible. You’ve seen the end screen pop dozens of time and all you have to show for it are a few hundred dubloons. Even more, you did PVP islands (THE HARD ONES!) and got nothing as well. You’ve tried farming normal and heroics for the hell of it to maybe speed up the completion rate but came out with nothing.Unfortunately, almost everyone is wrong. Not just “why hasn’t the secret discord discovered this yet” wrong, but paradigm-shifted-and-now-oblivious wrong.Since even the early days of community forums, then Thottbot and later wowhead, items and drops in WoW have been a fairly consistently determined. If it isn’t from a vendor or quest, something (or group of somethings) has it on its loot table. It might be rare, but the human reporting, data mining and statistics quickly eliminate options and as data pours in from the first week of a new patch, the number of items which are unknown for shrinks quickly to a few rare and whispered speculative items that, of course, drop off of the boss they are named after, or maybe just the last boss of the raid. It’s gotten so prevalent that Blizz even started simply listing everything in a journal. Everyone knows that items drop off loot tables. Everyone knows that loot tables are fixed. Everyone knows that islands are just some garbage low-drop-rate completely random piece of garbage content that no one should do. Except…Interestingly, with the change to island experience, some friends and I recently had an opportunity to start doing normal islands to level some alts. It is roughly equivalent to questing right now, arguably better with full rest due to the pacing of kills vs the prevalence of ‘non-combat-value’ quests. Due to the monotony, we started testing some rumors. You see, with the drop rate increase even casual islanders had started whispering of patterns and deterministic opportunities. So, dozens and dozens of islands later, we have discovered a few facts about islands by trial and error.1) All island loot rolls are irrespective of any sort of specific individual contribution. We had someone sit AFK and they still received the ‘rare’ loot consistently.2) It is possible to target loot, though not really to target specific loot except through repetition and RNG.3) The normal way people ‘do’ islands is counter-productive and does not reward you with items (at all, in some cases).Long story short, islands have a series of dynamic loot tables built for the entire group that are filled with low chance proportions based on the named rares you kill on that island. You do not know each mob’s loot table contains as it is obscured from direct inspection, you can only infer and guess based upon repeated killings of the named rare and acquisition of items. However, it is repeatable enough to confirm this is the case with some simple testing. When you finish the island, you roll on at least two loot tables, one for green (transmog armor) and one for blue (weapons/pets/tokens). Possibly a third for epics such as mounts (too low drop chance to confirm). So why is this important? Remember back to the mechanism of FINISHING the island – collecting Azerite. What is the densest Azerite spawn? The rare elementals that pop a few minutes into the island. What isn’t a NAMED elite rare? You guessed it, that giant Azerite elemental surrounded by 3 pillars or his buddies. What doesn’t populate your loot table? Yep – farming packs of unnamed basic mobs or mining generic Azerite nodes. In essence, the most efficient way of doing islands ELIMINATES your chances of getting loot – in some cases nearly completely. If you happen to do 1-2 ‘X’ nodes with no NAMED rares/elites and then the Azerite elemental spawn followed by killing the enemy faction a bit while you mine super dense and efficient nodes? Your loot table is EMPTY.If you kill some Mantid or Mogu? Pandaria transmog. Nerubians? Azjol Nerub quest tokens and Nerubian pet. Pirates? Crackers mount. It is likely some items are only obtainable on some weeks due to island creature types and terrain specific spawns. Specifically, many of the items seemingly come from the invasions that take place at roughly 50% azerite level. If you ignore those (for instance, let the enemy faction tag them), you lose a major loot table addition. So why do I think islands are the most important content to hit WoW in a decade? Blizzard has (accidentally?) found a way to circumvent data mining and reintroduce exploration. Dynamic, server-side cascading loot tables with sufficient RNG over the course of a complex or long-enough duration content cycle which is disconnected from direct sourcing (e.g. on a corpse) means that no one can say for absolute certainty what drops and from whom. Importantly, since sometimes you get nothing (20 consecutive 5% rolls doesn’t mean you have 100% chance), you’ll never know for sure. Yes, wowhead 'knows' what drops from islands, yet almost a year since data started trickling in and it knows nothing about how or why or when. Neither, it turns out, do most people. Why is this important? Well, imagine a piece of content like warfronts which are mostly completely boring garbage scenarios with predictable RNG loot generation. Now imagine that all the content from Arathi the world zone actually dropped inside the scenario, just like in islands. Only, unbeknownst to the world, your groups loot table was dynamically populated based on the specific actions you took. At the end, 2-3 people would get something super rare and exciting and you wouldn’t know exactly why. But you might speculate. You might think, hey, 2 of us got this awesome treant pet. We were killing trees all game. Just maybe…Now imagine an “explorer’s chest” similar to your M+ cache. In it will be the combined dynamic loot table of whatever outdoor content you did that week. Titan facility dungeon? Maybe some sort of transmog Titan weapons. Fished a lot? Maybe a fishing mount or item. Pet battles in Drustvar? A cool little witch pet that no one could ever find... No one would know EXACTLY what caused it, but people would start speculating. They would compare notes. They would focus on content they hadn’t considered. That blue pirate parrot mount MUST be from completing world quests in Freehold, right? RIGHT?This is how Blizzard reins back in the complete loss of mystery and intrigue and adventure for the average player without resorting to opaque riddles and secrets. This is how Blizzard revitalizes the adventure, extending content and community involvement out for weeks and months and even years to discover things. Will they? Who knows. I doubt they even realize what they’ve created. I suspect some might ‘know’ but not understand the implications. I suspect even more are confused at why people are complaining islands give ‘nothing’. It’s right there! Don’t they KNOW? They don’t. They’ve been programmed to look at websites and journals.I hope I’m wrong, I hope Blizz takes this loot system and has their eureka moment. via /r/wow
