oh this professor gave us no instructions whatsoever for this assignment. we're supposed to draft a demand letter and pretty much all these directions r is two sentences explaining generally what a demand letter is, a few (bad) examples, and then she pretty much just tells us to make us our own facts and details of a torts case from scratch and draft an entire demand letter from that. this is a 2000 level class in a certificate program for people who arent already in the legal field. if i were my classmates i'd be terrified 😭 like i see demand letters everyday and i'm still like ?????? what do you want from me?? a creative writing exercise and a legal writing exercise in one how fun thank u soooooooo much

hey, I'm a ramcoa survivor and I saw your post that mentioned not being able to talk about what happened because of the law, and I was wondering what the laws are because I am terrified to speak out

In my case it's because I'm working on making a case! It's not that I can't speak on things period but I don't want to go into specifics because if I do infact get a case, I want to be able to make sure I don't accidentally doxx myself. Things in my trauma may eventually show up on the media and possibly my real life identity could be tied to it. And though the worries about doxxing would matter less when the people I know irl already knew the entirety of what happened to me. (My main fear if I get doxxed currently is having to tell my parents what happened and check if they seem to act too off about it.)

What I'm doing is a safety precaution because of the possibility of matching details of my trauma to details of what may come out in court. I also want to be certain that there's no weird arguments or questions made by anyone who's meant to be the defense for my traffickers and their conspirators.

There's nothing illegal or against the law about sharing your story. Issues can however come up when it comes to planning or actively being part of a legal case.

Omg I was literally hanging out minding my own business when I remembered like, the bare bones concept of a fic I fucking LOVED, so I went looking for it, found it, started rereading it, and remembered that it a) was still in progress (sad), and b) literally gave me a panic attack once because of its graphically realistic instance of a character being buried alive, which is a phobia I didn't really realize affected me so much until reading this fic lmao. Anyway that was my day.

and you know i’ve always thought that it’s such a shame that all the big name examples we have of “filing the serial numbers off:” like, turning a fanfiction into an original work are ahem. not neccessarily the greatest works of literary fiction BECAUSE LIKE. and maybe this is because of my love for the wonderful “expy” (we should put kaworu in more anime. we should do it more) BUT I FEEL LIKE it can be done awesomely. sometimes i see people’s heavily-AU’d and tonally shifted fanfiction and im like damn man. i’d love to read this as ur original book. i feel like the key is twofold: 1) remember to reintroduce the world and characters properly in the text because you won’t have the fanfiction tags and original property to do that for u and 2) get SILLAY you dont need to keep everything about the original characters..... u can change their hair colours.....their names....anything u want......................................................

#I'm going out to dinner tonight with 2 friends that I used to work with many years ago #they're both lawyers #i always end up being friends with the lawyers #my brain definitely always needs to balance my creative work with non creative #and the legal and contracting stuff often provides a bit of a break for me #whereas most of my co-workers absolutely hate it and are scared and baffled by it #ANYWAY - #both my friends got out of media law #so we have no work connection at all #and we're just mates #and this is a last minute hang #but a beautifully timed one #because it's a timely reminder that no matter how stressful and weird my job is and whether i end up leaving my current role or whatevs #what matters is that I've made so many good friends over the years and those friendships are not remotely dependent on our work #the job losses and chaos and uncertainty in the industry i work in are due to hollywood greed and wall street brutality #and it's wreaking havoc on ordinary workers lives #and I'm not underplaying that #but i need to focus on the fact that the friendships that matter are the ones that will last regardless
