congratulations to Mme. Pascale Leclerc, who has surely just experienced both the funniest and most unhinged weekend a mother could ever have. Dear fucking christ, I hope your middlest son brought you a bottle of champagne for yourself, ma'am.
it's so funny i spent sooooo much time being embarrassed about Mav's normal dog behaviours (e.g. worming in the grass, pulling on leash, soliciting pets) and then he would do something objectively hilarious and embarrassing in front of a crowd of people (e.g. heeling away with the judge during an obedience trial) and it was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
NGL, it is very mindboggling to me as a person coming from a police and commercial detection dog training background that so many people who do nosework seem to struggle with imprinting? Like I see it brought up frequently as one of the most common challenges people have and want webinars or classes for, and I’m like... but that’s the easiest part of detection???
Under appreciated side effect of me binging dts and analyzing the editing bc I’m a reality tv nerd before all else is my dad watching with me despite being a notorious hater of race car related sports and also deciding he likes Lewis and Fernando Alonso a lot on pure vibes (he appreciates my fun trivia about both of them)
The trial this weekend just about had me wanting to cry out of happiness. Aayla really showed that she can handle utility and that we can do this.
On the third day, we outdid the previous day and showed we can do even better.
Aayla had a very nice Utility run, getting the Q, a score of 193/200 and picking up second place to get another OTCH point.
Her Open run was amazing too! She got the Q, a score of 196/200 and first place. (For no OTCH points since there were not enough dogs in the class)
Which means she got ANOTHER UDX leg. Then to top it off Aayla was high in trial and high combined.
This weekend wrapped up with 4/5 Qs, her Utility title(!!!!), 5 OTCH points, 27 OM points, 2 UDX legs, two high combined ribbons, and a high in trial ribbon.
She did so well that other competitors jokingly were telling me that I shouldn't get used to this much success cause the OTCH journey will find a way to kick our ass again. Since we have been in the utility ring 18 times before getting a title, I think I understand that very well! I am going to have a lot to say over the next few days probably since I'm emotional about this. So feel free to ignore all my text posts.
Daft dog has given more than one passing hiker a bit of a fright while walking on this track... I see people, plodding along down the hill, quite unaware & relaxed & then, there’s a moment when they obviously register the fact they’re being watched & they do a double-take at the sight of a stripy little *face* peeking out at them from the trees.
an extremely fun video showing a HUGE gap in our noseworktraining. I neglected to teach Mav how to do a proper container search so for a while there he just alerted to all containers, whether they had scent in them or not.
we eventually got it sorted and he finished his novice and open nosework titles, but this was funny to me while it lasted
