Goodnight Splatoon 1's server's and thank you for everything.

I remember seeing the first trailer for Splatoon. At first I wasn't interested at all... a shooter game? Not my style of game play... But then I kept watching and wow... I just got so captivated by what I saw that it was the first game I had ever pre-ordered that wasn't a Pokemon game. I used to do something called the "24 hour challenge" something that no one else but me did because I made it up. I would stay up the full 24 hours for Splatfest for the first handful of Splatfests and play the wholeeeee time. Or at least until my brother wanted to play and I'd take a nap, haha. That stopped once school started up again but those memories of my 24 hour challenges are still ones that I hold close to my heart. My first real Splatoon friend was Nick! We would play the new stages together in recon as soon as they would come out and we were both online. We still talk and I'd still consider him one of my closest friends. Thanks for sticking with me all these years Nick, I appreciate you more than words could ever express. I've made more Splatoon friends over the years and I'm happy to have every single one of you. Here's to the future!

You’re Lucky I Love You So Much Pt. 2 -- Sonny Carisi

Notes: The second half of this fic! You finally meet lots of Carisis and Sonny dances like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man. Also a little bit of tooth rotting fluff because it’s what we all (including Sonny) deserve.

Spending a couple hours in a Catholic church packed full of hundreds of chatty Italians wasn’t your ideal way to spend a Saturday morning. Though you’d certainly had worse. Like the one proceeded by a Friday night in which your roommate convinced you eight shots of Bacardi wouldn’t be a mistake.

It was.

And even though this Saturday morning was already leaving a similar churning feeling in your stomach, you knew that this wasn’t a mistake. Sonny had his fingers intertwined with yours and was leading you through the crowd to an open pew. Well, he was trying to lead you. The two of you were being stopped every few feet by some distant relative.

“Sonny! How’ve you been?”

“How’s work?”

“Who’s this?”

“Aren’t you two adorable!”

“How long has this been a thing?”

By the time you finally sat down you’d met twelve cousins, eight second cousins, a handful of aunts and uncles, and Sonny’s mother who, very sweetly and simply, wrapped you in a gentle hug and told you you looked lovely.

“See?” Sonny said, raising his eyebrows and tilting his head forward a bit. “That wasn’t so bad.”

“No. It wasn’t bad at all,” you replied. “Except you could have warned me about all the strangers that would be kissing me on the mouth today.”

Sonny laughed, “Yeah, it’s an Italian thing.”

Then he got more serious and added, “If it makes you uncomfortable just tell them. They won’t be offended. Except my Uncle Tony, but you already met him.”

You certainly had already met Uncle Tony. It was like meeting a mobster straight out of the movies, gold chain and all.

“It’s fine. I’m just not used to it,” you replied with a smile.

He returned the smile as some Bach began to play, signaling that the big event was about to begin.

The ceremony was as lovely as it was long. You were up and down on your knees more times than you had been in months. Sonny’s cousin Gio was a mess, unable to stop a steady flow of tears. And at one point you glanced over to find Sonny shedding a tear as well. You just smiled and squeezed his hand a little tighter.

At the reception you were overwhelmed by the uproarious and joyous noise. Not anxiously overwhelmed, but more so awestruck by the swell of music and voices. A couple family members gave speeches as you waited for dinner. Gio’s father told a sweet story about the groom as a boy and ended it by thanking God for bringing the Carisis and Millers together. You caught Sonny tearing up again and it made your heart swell.

He didn’t always show it, but he cared very deeply for people. Especially his family. He had an endless supply of empathy that he learned to cover up after too many years of being pushed around. When you first started dating he was even a little brash because of it. But over the months he had opened up to you. Now he was crying unconcealed tears of joy in front of you and plenty of others.

And when the speeches were finished and dinner was sufficiently scarfed down he grabbed your hand without hesitating and pulled you out to the dance floor. To be clear, Sonny Carisi is not and has never been a good dancer. But get a couple glasses of champagne and the celebratory spirit in him and he is unstoppable. It was like watching one of those floppy, blow up guys in front of car dealerships try to maintain a beat. It was insanely adorable and weirdly a little bit sexy.

After a particularly energetic bout of flailing to “Lay All Your Love on Me” by ABBA you convinced him to take a break with you. You grabbed the cuff of his dress shirt and led him through a set of glass doors to a small patio. As you stepped out into the night air Sonny took an exaggeratedly deep breath and draped his arm over your shoulders.

“Care for a little stroll, doll?” he asked.

You closed your eyes, felt the breeze wind through your hair, and nodded your head as a reply. You and Sonny wandered outside of the reception venue for a bit before finding a good place to stop and sit. Sonny reached out a hand to lazily draw circles on your knee and the two of you rested in companionable silence for a few moments, just watching his finger move on your skin. Then you looked up to find an almost solemn look on his face.

“Penny for your thoughts?” you nearly whispered. You were suddenly and inexplicably a bit afraid of what he was going to say.

But his continence quickly slid back to a pleasant state and a small grin ghosted on his lips. “I’m havin’ a great night with you. I’m just hopin’ you’re feelin’ the same.”

Then he slid his hand away from your knee to grab your wrist and squeeze lightly. Then it slid further to intertwine with your own hand. It was mostly light and calming, but there was an undeniable weight to it. Like he was trying to steady or anchor himself and his thoughts.

When you didn’t immediately respond he continued, “I know you were nervous about this. You felt like people wouldn’t like you or maybe that we were movin’ things too fast. But I know everyone loved you. Ma and Pa and Bella and even Mia. And she doesn’t really like anyone. I- I just need to know that you’re okay. That you’re having a good time and that you’re happy you came with me.”

It almost made you cry, the way that Sonny let his insecurities slip out sometimes.

You turned as much as you could to face him. Your knees were pressing almost uncomfortably into his thigh when you said, “Sonny I’m more than okay. Looking back I can’t even fathom why I turned you down in the first place. Your family is amazing. A little over affectionate, but amazing. And you’re amazing. I can’t think of a better way to have spent my time today than with you, here, making a complete idiot of yourself on the dance floor.”

“Hey!” he jokingly poked at your side. “I’m an excellent dancer.”

You laughed, “Sure, Sonny. I’m sure everyone in there would agree.”

He beamed back at you for a moment then leaned in a little closer to ask one more time, “Are you really happy you came?”

You nodded and to reinforce your answer you closed the distance between the two of you with a kiss. You felt him relax under your touch. His hand that wasn’t already holding yours reached up to brush your hair behind your ear and rest on your jaw. The two of you stayed like that, tender in each other’s hold and kissing, for what felt like an eternity. Then a somewhat aggressive song started to seep out from the reception hall, you guessed something by Muse from what you could make out, and Sonny quickly left your lips.

“Hey, I think it’s that song from Twilight,” he mused, turning to look over his shoulder.

You couldn’t help your mouth from dropping open and your eyebrows knitting together. “Twilight?” you nearly croaked.

Sonny quickly twisted back to face you, the blush already spreading to his ears. “Yeah. Yeah Mia once put it on while I was watching her years ago. It’s- I wasn’t watchin’ it on my own or anything!” he retorted. “I don’t have to explain myself to you. It’s a good song and we both know which one of us’s seen Twilight more times.”

“Alright, that’s fair,” you relented, standing and pulling him up with you. “Let’s see some more of those sweet moves of yours before the night is over.”

Weird to think that this was inspired by the thought of slow dancing with Sonny. I got too caught up thinking about those lanky limbs trying to move rhythmically. Maybe I can just write about slow dancing another time…

Thanks again and again to anyone that read through this whole thing (especially to @the-baby-bookworm for letting me know someone wanted a part 2! I took it as all of you guys wanting a part 2). I’m planning on writing more in the coming weeks when I have the time to. We’ll see if my university moving online makes me write more or less...

In the future when I’ve (hopefully) started writing for more characters than the sweet Sonny Carisi I would LOVE to take requests. I’ll be sure to say something if I do!

Additional note in these turbulent times: avoid packed churches with hundreds of chatty Italians for a little while folks! We all need to do our part to keep ourselves and those at increased risk safe. I’ll try to post more frequently so we all having something to keep ourselves occupied and INDOORS.

High School!Namjoon

And now it is time for our amazing leader, my lowkey spirit animal, a total precious bundle of giggles like I can watch the “yellow card” video over and over again bc his giggles are so cute and I love that the entire time he’s just sitting there giggling bc chim did something cute like how is someone so precious, Kim Namjoon aka Rap Monster aka joon

This will be an extension of the teenager series (for the teen!Namjoon post, click here) the original post focused on the relationship, like the first meeting, the confession all of that fluffy stuff so this post is gonna be filling the gap in and saying what I think he’d be like as a high school student

Okay but predebut!joon is so fucking cute like he has the same thing going on that the other boys do, he still has a bit of his bby chub, he’s still gotta grow into his features a lil more, cheekbones weren’t as sharp etc. all of the typical things but it’s really really adorable he looks so squishy

His cheeks were (and are) s o kissable and soft and I just wanna squish them bc they look so cute I love squishy cheeks so much

Gotta do black hair!joon for this bc I feel like we haven’t had black hair!joon in a while (I’m not complaining a t a l l bc I love dyed hair!joon with all my heart) and also predebut!joon had dark hair and I’m trying to keep it somewhat close to reality but it all works out bc I love black/dark hair!joon

Okay so Namjoon’s fashion is always changing and evolving, one day he’s wearing all black the next he’s in a bright pink shirt, one day he’s in black jeans the next he’s in overalls and I have to give joon some applause for taking risks and wearing whatever HE wants to wear bc his fashion is another form of expression and I love that he’s sending out the message of just do you (wink wink)

Some of my personal favorite Kim Dailys are when he’s in all black, there’s this one picture where he’s in all black but then there’s just a pop of pink from his hair and it’s so aesthetically pleasing but my all time favorite has to be this one picture is where he’s in a black tank top, black shorts and he’s got a headband on and glasses and he’s got the blondish hair going on and it’s just so wo W he looks so boyfriend in his Kim Daily posts and it makes me want to scream

HS!joon is always trying new things out and he loves finding new clothes or a new accessory like this one time you give him a hat for his birthday and he wears that thing for like three weeks straight bc he loves you and he loves hats so it’s all perfecT

Okay so Namjoon is really really friendly but he doesn’t make friends with everyone he walks next to so he has zero issues with becoming friends with someone and speaking to them first but he likes staying somewhat close to his group, the boys will always be his b e s t friends (and of course, you but you’re a lil more than a friend)

Namjoon likes to hang out with the kids that are pushed out of cliques for being different or ‘aren’t cool enough’ bc fuck that, no he’s gonna be friends with them and he’s gonna show them that not everyone cares about how much money they have or don’t have or how popular they are

And lowkey head canon that he’s super sarcastic with the 'popular’ clique that are all really arrogant and cocky so he gives them these really fake smiles when they talk to him, the type of fake that you know is fake so they can see he’s not having their shit and every single word is dripping with sarcasm and Yoongi’s helping him and they’re both just slowly but surely putting the clique in their place

Namjoon is totally the type to stick up for others around bullies like he’s tall and broad and he’s got that deep voice so he can easily psych the bully out and get them to leave the other person alone

Namjoon is obviously in the music club, he loves music so much but I also feel like he’d be in the fashion club maybe bc Namjoon seems like he’s really interested in different styles and different looks so he’d definitely try it out

He’s the president of the music club and everyone loves him in both clubs and he loves having people around him that are interested in the same things that he is like the people in the music club know about so many different artists and everyone’s always trading song suggestions and the fashion club is so open to different fashion styles like you have one kid that forever wears all black, there’s someone that likes to go for a nice dress and has a more vintage style he likes the quirky people that have something they love

I’m not sure Namjoon and sports should go together bc Namjoon has been given a certain nickname (god of destruction) and idk if giving him a ball and telling him to kick/throw/hit it is a good idea bc that sounds like a pretty good way to end up with a broken window and/or limb

Prom with Namjoon is so cute though like joon would be such a sweet boyfriend and he makes you feel so special the entire night like his eyes never leave you, his arm’s around your waist and he’s just so proud to be standing next to you and to be able to say yes hi I’m the boyfriend

He’s so !!! when he sees you like there are so many emotions, at first it’s all cute and his eyes are all bright and he’s so happy and in awe and then he gets this smirk and just does the “ok” hand motion and very blatantly checks you out

“NiCE”

He gets you a single rose (cue the cheesy line of “bc there’s only one you”) and is super happy to pose for pictures bc “in twenty years, we’ll look back on these pictures with our kids and tell them how I was the best prom date of the century”

Namjoon gets super hype at prom tbh like we’ve all seen what happens when Namjoon hears music, he goes crazy and just starts up the flailing limbs like his dance he did back in the WOH era where he was just whipping his arms back and forth and even got Jimin to join in with him

Or the iconic dance he did on Weekly Idol where he had the really long jacket sleeves and just kinda flopped around and flailed them all over the place and he looked like one of those air dancers (I had to look up the name of them using the joke about wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man from Family Guy apparently they’re called air dancers I learn something new every day)

He ends up losing his tie at some point and he doesn’t even realize it until he’s leaving and goes to fix his tie bc it “feels loose”

He and Jin start a dance off and somehow Yoongi gets roped into it and then Taehyung’s doing the worm in the middle of the dance floor while Jimin’s rolling around laughing and Jungkook’s challenging Tae by saying he can do a way better worm but it’s all adorable and Namjoon gets you to join him and Jin gets his date involved so now everyone just wiggling around with their dates

And of course the slow dancing is so sweet and soft and it’s super giggly bc you two keep stepping on each other’s feet and Namjoon just gets this huge smile and his entire face is lit up and he’s playfully singing along to the music off key just so he can hear you laugh

High school!joon is super sweet and kind and he’s really just a gentle giant and loves to make the people that feel left out feel included with him and he also just really really loves you

Viral Video Marketing

On 11 April 2009, a video of Susan Boyle became a sensation (article) on YouTube within days. Even though the British TV programme "Britain's Got Talent" is broadcast mainly in the UK, and has a smaller viewership compared to American Idol, many of these videos promoting “Britain’s Got Talent” became widely watched overnight. How did these videos become so popular?

Susan Boyle’s appearance intrigued the judging panel because they were so used to having pretty women and handsome guys audition for the talent show. However, her appearance was plain, to the extent to even ugly (as per online comments). Simon Cowell’s earlier annoyance towards her, made it more evident of an underdog when she impressed the entire auditorium with her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream.

Her simple audition became a testament that as long as you have the talent, you will be recognised for your efforts. She is an inspiration for not giving up on your dreams, which was why her videos spread so virally. People recognise this same emotion of being judged based on your appearances, and her tenacity of not bowing to conventions inspires them through her vocal ability.

Susan Magdalane Boyle, a Scottish dream that became a reality.

Identify and discuss cases where “word-of-mouth” on the Internet has led to a rise in popularity of certain products, fashion or trends in Singapore. Look at this image of Ris Low, our ex beauty queen. What happened?

Upon being crowned as Ms Singapore, Ris Low had the opportunities to be interviewed by various agencies and newspapers. However, her disastrous English speaking skills deterred people from seeing her as a representative of Singapore. Netizens would post hateful comments about her, mocking her for winning the pageant based on unscrupulous means. In addition, her poor attitude towards dealing with the criticism led to a drop in supporters. Eventually, the local community saw her as an embarrassment.

However, the fire fuelled when the organiser of the Singapore franchise of the Miss World beauty pageant, ERM World Marketing, defended Low's winning of the crown. A representative said that Low had performed excellently throughout the competition, claiming that the one-off fashion interview had misled the public into believing she spoke English poorly. "She spoke perfectly good English, had a good answer, and performed very well to impress the eleven judges that she was good enough to win."

(I highly doubt it, there’s no way one’s English standard can fluctuate that much. Unless of course, she was acting).

Online Viral Marketing vs Traditional Marketing

Online viral marketing has an apparent goal in mind and usually is made to be viral, through witty puns or a touching story. However, for Susan Boyle videos, it was accidental for the video to have gone viral since usually they only accounted. Viral marketing has to create/share messages that appeal to many individuals. These individuals (eg. influencers) will then help spread/share to their own followers, creating more revenue and awareness for the sponsors.

Online marketing makes it an ease reaching your target local audience. For example, a radio ad can be played consistently on radio stations (eg. 987FM), your target audience will definitely hear of it. Youtube, Facebook plays an important part in audience outreach as well since social media has integrated itself into daily lives.

However, the downside of online marketing is that majority, if not all of the collaterals are softcopy and only available online. They may appear intangible. As for traditional marketing, the materials can be kept. The audience can have a hard copy of materials of which they can read or browse through over and over again.

Furthermore, direct mail was easier to process mentally and tested better for brand recall. According to the report, direct mail requires 21% less cognitive effort to process than digital media (5.15 vs. 6.37), suggesting that it is both easier to understand and more memorable. Post-exposure memory tests validated what the cognitive load test revealed about direct mail’s memory encoding capabilities. When asked to cite the brand (company name) of an advertisement they had just seen, recall was 70% higher among participants who were exposed to a direct mail piece (75%) than a digital ad (44%).

Hence, it is up to the agency/client to decide their target audience and choose the most viable technique to promote their campaign effectively. There is no “best answer” since it is purely based on the nature, purpose and product of what the campaign is set on.

What is the most important factor that makes a viral marketing campaign successful?

The campaign has to be R-E-L-A-T-A-B-L-E.

It has to be relevant and relatable by the target audience, if not everyone. For example, if the campaign promotes Chinese New Year but it is played in an European country; majority of them will not be able to understand, let alone be attracted to purchase the product.

Hence, relevance and connection to the specific target audience is important as the advertisement will speak directly to them as thought it is a one-on-one conversation; making it more likely that the audience will be convinced and have the desire to purchase the products.

4 Rules for a Video to go Viral

1. It MUST Evoke Emotion

The internet sensation songs like Gangnam Style for example; the reason this went viral was initially due to the fact that Psy’s crazy dance moves are hilarious. Songs like Closer had people actually buying rovers because the song was just that catchy and evoked feel-good emotions in the listeners. When they felt good, they were more willing to share that song with friends, creating a new trend on the Internet. This is exactly what is happening in the online world when it comes to viral videos so it’s important to incorporate true emotion into advertising videos.

It is easy to make someone feel rather than think.

2. It Should Portray Your Brand’s Image, Without Being Overly Promotional

Virality is one thing, being hard-sell is another which is not encouraged. Good viral videos have absolutely no hard sell and it’s far more entertaining than it is promotional. A good example of this would be the Furkids Animal Rescue promotional video. The shelter itself made a promotional video to attract animal lovers to adopt cats.

The video went viral in less than two days and chocked up over two million views on their channel where the usual amount of views hovered between 50 to 300. The Movie Maker clip included a kitty high-five, oodles of dad jokes, an improvised wacky, waving inflatable arm flailing tube man and one dog. But the real magic of this clip comes from immersing yourself in its corny, well-meaning mayhem.

3. You Must Have A Marketing Plan

“The reason for an initial marketing plan is simple: there has to be someone to share the video in the first place. Let’s look at a real world example and imagine that you wanted to start a rumor about someone. If you never told anyone the rumor, how would it ever spread?

Likewise, if you tell one person the rumor, it has some chance of spreading but if you tell 50 people the rumor, it’s going to spread a lot more quickly. Once you plant those initial seeds, some of your work is done.” - Convince and Convert

A viral video needs a follow-up from the video alone, there needs to be something for the target audience to do or see such that the campaign continues offline as well. If the video does not go viral, there needs to be a back-up plan of “what to do next” to either increase the viral potential of the video or change a concept on its own entirely.

4. Other Branding/Marketing Efforts Must Be In Place

“Make sure your other marketing efforts are up to scratch so you’ll be able to maximize the return on your investment. Your video is likely to be near the top of your sales funnel, so if things aren’t in place further down the line, you’re likely to leak prospective buyers.”

User experience is important. The extended collaterals could include flyers, stickers, microsite, or even a video series such that there is something for the audience to continue; facilitating a smooth and successful consumer experience journey.

DollarShaveClub.com is a great example of how to do things properly. Within just 24 hours of the video going live, they received over 5,000 subscribers and have seen thousands of paying customers sign up as a result. This is because they had a connecting landing page design to their website which was designed to convert visitors into customers efficiently; a good example of successful UX that ought to be applied to not just web but print as well.
